Starting the 2025 season with three victories last week, the Hutchinson Community College Women's Soccer Team swept KJCCC Player/Goalkeeper of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Freshman Poppy Smith, who had a game-winning goal with less than 13 seconds to play in regulation time against a nationally ranked opponent, was named the Jayhawk Conference's Player of the Week. Freshman Evie Carvell earned two wins to garner the league's Goalkeeper of the Week.
POPPY SMITH – Player of the Week
Smith's career started with a game-winning goal in the final seconds in a Top-15 national matchup.
The freshman forward from Royston, England, finished the opening week of the 2025 season leading the No. 15 Blue Dragons with a seven-point week (3 goals, 1 assist).
Playing No. 12 Trinity Valley in the season opener on August 25, the score was tied at 1-1 in the final minute of the second half. The Dragons covered 105 total yards in about 13 seconds and Smith traveled about 20 yards before rocketing the game winner from 20 yards out with 12.8 seconds remaining in the game for a 2-1 win over the Cardinals.
Smith had two goals against Trinity Valley, one goal against Western Wyoming and an assist against NOC-Enid.
EVIE CARVELL – Goalkeeper of the Week
Carvell, a freshman from Billericay, England, earned her first two career wins, first career shutout and first win over a nationally ranked team to lead the No. 15-ranked Blue Dragons.
Carvell allowed only one goal with eight saves in wins over No. 12 Trinity Valley and Western Wyoming.
Against Trinity Valley, Carvell had three saves in four shots faced. Carvell had five saves in a shutout performance in a 3-0 win over Western Wyoming.
Carvell started the season 2-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average and an .889 save percentage.
