MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — P.J. Haggerty scored 25 of his 29 points in the second half and Kansas State rallied from a five-point deficit in the final 49 seconds to beat Tulsa 84-83 on Monday night.

Myles Rigsby hit two foul shots to give Tulsa (3-1) its largest lead at 83-78 with 49 seconds to go. Haggerty hit two free throws and a jumper following a Tulsa turnover to cut it to 83-82 with 31 seconds left.

Khamari McGriff stole the ball from Miles Barnstable and fed Danny Castillo for a go-ahead layup 13 seconds later. Barnstable missed a 3-pointer and David Green missed a jumper in the final 7 seconds for the Golden Hurricane.

McGriff had nine points and Abdi Bashir Jr. scored eight to help the Wildcats (4-0) take a 39-34 lead at halftime. Nine different players had first-half points for Tulsa.

Haggerty made three foul shots and a layup in a 12-3 run and Kansas State led 68-60 with eight minutes left. Tylen Riley scored six in a 16-6 spurt and Tulsa moved in front 76-74 to set the stage for a wild finish.

Haggerty made 9 of 16 shots and 11 of 12 free throws, also grabbing 10 rebounds for K-State. McGriff totaled 13 points and nine rebounds. Castillo scored 12 off the bench and Bashir added 10 points.

The Hutchinson Community College football team remained No. 1 in the NJCAA rankings for the 13th-consecutive week with the new Division I Football poll released on Monday.

The Blue Dragons (9-0) will now play their fifth nationally ranked opponent this season when No. 14 Garden City comes to Gowans Stadium for a noon kickoff on Saturday.

The Dragons defeated Highland 49-7 on Saturday in Highland for their 13th-straight victory and 25-consecutive road win.

Hutchinson received all 12 first-place votes again with Iowa Western (9-1), Tyler (10-0), Northwest Mississippi (10-1) and Georgia Military (10-1) rounding out the top 5.

The Blue Dragons extend their program record for longest consecutive weeks in the national poll to 61 weeks. The Dragons have been ranked in the top three of the NJCAA Rankings for 55 consecutive polls and have been ranked No. 1 in 50 of the 80 polls released in the Drew Dallas era.

The KJCCC continues to have four teams in the Top 15. Coffeyville (7-3) remained No. 7. Butler (6-3) moved up three spots after a win over Dodge City to No. 10. Garden City (6-4) dropped three spots to No. 14 after an overtime loss to Iowa Central, which jumped up two spots to No. 8.

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team moved up one spot in the NJCAA Division I National Rankings this week after a 2-0 week last week to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.

The Blue Dragons are No. 18 this week and are one of four Jayhawk Conference teams in the newest Top 25 that was released on Monday.

Hutchinson earned victories over Murray State (86-68) and Otero (82-59) in the Hutch Women's "BreatheFire" Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Sports Arena to close the non-conference schedule at 5-1.

Now starts the 24-game grind of the KJCCC double-round-robin schedule on Wednesday. The Blue Dragons will open with Garden City (5-0) at home at 5:30 p.m. and then will travel to No. 14 Butler (5-0) at 2 p.m. on Saturday in El Dorado.

The Blue Dragons have now been ranked in 33 consecutive polls and have been ranked in 192 of the last 214 polls.

For the first time since Hutchinson was ranked No. 1 last season, the KJCCC has the top-ranked team residing within the conference. With a loss by Northwest Florida State over the weekend, Dodge City (5-0) is the No. 1-ranked team for the first time in program history.

This week's Top 5 has Dodge City, Chipola, Three Rivers, Gulf Coast State and Northwest Florida State.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals announced their 2025 team award winners today, which were voted on by the Kansas City Chapter of the BBWAA.

Bobby Witt Jr.&nbsp;was named the&nbsp;Les Milgram&nbsp;Player of the Year, an award named in honor of the late Kansas City businessman, community leader and Royals board member. Left hander&nbsp;Noah Cameron&nbsp;was named&nbsp;Bruce Rice&nbsp;Pitcher of the Year, named in honor of the late Kansas City-area sportscaster.

Maikel Garcia&nbsp;earned the&nbsp;Joe Burke&nbsp;Special Achievement Award, named in honor of the Royals Hall of Famer, who was the club’s General Manager and President during his 20 years with the Royals from 1973-92. The award is given to an unsung player who contributed beyond what was expected or someone voters felt deserved recognition for an outstanding season.

Witt Jr. has won Royals Player of the Year in each of his four seasons in the Majors, including unanimous selections in 2023 and 2024. He is the first to win Royals Player of the Year honors in four consecutive seasons. Since the award was established in 1971, Witt Jr.’s four Royals Player of the Year Awards are 2nd most, trailing only&nbsp;George Brett, who won the award a club-record eight times.

Witt Jr. slashed .295/.351/.501 (184-for-623) in 157 games with Kansas City in 2025 and recorded 23 home runs and 38 stolen bases, becoming the first player in Major League history with at least 20 HR and 30 steals in each of his first four big league seasons.

He led the Majors this season in hits for the second consecutive year, becoming the first player to accomplish that feat (excluding 2020) since&nbsp;Whit Merrifield&nbsp;did so for the Royals from 2018-19. Witt Jr. also led the Majors with 47 doubles in 2025.

In Class 2A, Sedgwick senior Kalyn Sampson and Moundridge senior Cammi Unruh were both second-team honorees. Inman junior Taylor Froese and Moundridge junior Hattie Hecox received honorable-mention honors.

🏐 Local stars earn Kansas Volleyball Association all-state honors

DENVER (AP) — Wil Lutz kicked five field goals, including&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Broncos/status/1990218327000797565">a 35-yard game-winner</a>&nbsp;as time expired Sunday, pushing the Denver Broncos past the Kansas City Chiefs 22-19 for their eighth straight victory.

The Broncos (9-2) all but buried the Chiefs (5-5) in the AFC West, which Kansas City has won ever year since 2016. Chiefs coach Andy Reid fell to 27-5 following a bye week, counting the playoffs and his time with Philadelphia.

Bo Nix set up the game-winning kick with a 32-yard pass to Troy Franklin that got Denver to the Kansas City 15 with under a minute remaining.

Patrick Mahomes gave Kansas City its only lead on a 21-yard touchdown toss to Travis Kelce — the veteran tight end's 84th career TD, one more than previous Chiefs franchise record-holder Priest Holmes. That put the Chiefs up 19-16, but Harrison Butker's extra point was blocked by Frank Crum.

The Broncos tied it at 19-all on Lutz's 54-yarder with 4:10 remaining.

Denver's defense forced Kansas City to go three-and-out when Ja'Quan McMillian sacked Mahomes on third-and-10 from the Chiefs 36.

The Broncos chewed up the final 2:59 by driving 58 yards in 10 plays. They won their 11th straight game at Empower Field, where they haven't lost since October 2024.

Kelce's TD followed a 46-yard pass-interference flag at the Denver 29 on cornerback Riley Moss on an underthrown pass from Mahomes to Hollywood Brown. That came on third-and-19 from the Kansas City 29.

The Broncos' eight-game winning streak is their longest since 2012, when Peyton Manning led Denver to 11 consecutive victories. As a result, the Chiefs' nine-year reign atop the AFC West is in jeopardy.

Jaleel McLaughlin, playing in place of injured starter J.K. Dobbins, who underwent season-ending foot surgery last week, bullied his way in from 4 yards out to break a 6-6 tie in the third quarter.

The Chiefs seized the momentum, however, when Mahomes found Tyquan Thornton for a 61-yard gain to the Denver 11. That set up Kareem Hunt's 2-yard run that tied it at 13. That was KC's first touchdown at Empower Field in 11 quarters.

Both offenses struggled to move the ball against stingy defenses, and the first half featured four short field goals and ended in a 6-6 tie.

Chiefs: LG Kingsley Suamataia left in the third quarter to be checked for a concussion.

Broncos: Rookie WR Pat Bryant was evaluated for a concussion after his 48-yard catch with 26 seconds left in the third quarter. ... The Broncos were without several starters, including CB Pat Surtain II (pectoral), ILB Alex Singleton (testicular cancer) and Dobbins (left foot), who will miss the rest of the regular season.

🏈 Broncos beat Chiefs on Lutz's last-second field goal

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Big 12 Conference and ESPN announced Sunday morning that Kansas State's game this Saturday at Utah will kick at 3 p.m. (CT) and be televised on ESPN2.

This is the first ever meeting between the Wildcats and Utes as Utah is in its second season in the Big 12. The Wildcats will be in search of their first win in the state of Utah after going 0-4 in Provo (BYU) and 0-1 in Logan (Utah State).

Following the game at Utah, K-State hosts Colorado on Saturday, November 29, for the Wildcats' annual Senior Day contest. Tickets to the game against the Buffaloes can be purchased online at www.kstatesports.com/tickets or by phone at 1-800-221-CATS.

🏈 K-State's game at Utah will kick at 3 p.m.

LAWRENCE, KAN. – The Kansas Jayhawks will close out its Big 12 Conference road schedule on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. CT at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa, the Big 12 Conference announced on Sunday. The game will be televised on FS1.

The meeting between the Jayhawks and the Cyclones will be the 105th all-time meeting in a series that dates back to 1898. The long-time conference rivals have played in each season since 1932, with Kansas leading the series 53-45-6. Kansas has won the last three meetings, including a 28-21 win over Iowa State in Ames on Nov. 4, 2023.

Saturday's game against Iowa State will be the third 11 a.m. kickoff of the 2025 season and Kansas' second game on FS1.

The Jayhawks will enter the showdown against the Cyclones at 5-5 (3-4 Big 12) in search of bowl eligibility for the third time over the last four seasons. The game will serve as Kansas' final Big 12 road contest and the 11th of 12 games this season.

Iowa State is coming off a 20-17 come from behind win at TCU on Nov. 8, as the Cyclones improved to 6-4 (3-4 Big 12) on the season. The game will serve as Iowa State's senior day.

Freshman guard&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2025-26/bios/brown_whitney_uv6o">Whitney Brown</a>'s efforts on both sides of the floor powered the 19th-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team to a decisive victory in the Hutch Women's "BreatheFire" Classic on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons won their third game in a row, defeating the Otero Rattlers 82-59 to close the non-conference portion of their schedule.

Hutchinson will take a 5-1 record into its KJCCC opener against Garden City on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.

Brown scored a season-high 19 points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and going 5 of 6 from the free-throw line to lead the Blue Dragons. Brown tied a season high with six assists. Defensively, Brown had three steals as the Blue Dragons forced an opponent-season-high 25 turnovers which were converted into a 25-12 scoring advantage in points off turnovers.

Two other Blue Dragons scored in double figures in a balanced offensive attack. Ten of 11 Blue Dragons to play scored in the game.

🏀 Brown paces No. 19 Blue Dragons past Rattlers

MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 13 Kansas secured its 20th win of the season with a straight-set 3-0 sweep of in-state rival Kansas State on Saturday afternoon at Morgan Family Arena.T

he Jayhawks were led offensively by&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/jovana-zelenovic/16519">Jovana Zelenovic</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/rhian-swanson/16289">Rhian Swanson</a>, who each posted 10 kills.&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/reese-ptacek/16287">Reese Ptacek</a>&nbsp;added nine kills on .600 hitting, while&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/grace-nelson/16286">Grace Nelson</a>&nbsp;finished with seven. Setter&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/katie-dalton/16280">Katie Dalton</a>&nbsp;guided the attack with 35 assists, and libero&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/ryan-white/16392">Ryan White</a>&nbsp;collected a match-high 14 digs.

Defensively, KU recorded eight team blocks, with&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/aisha-aiono/16278">Aisha Aiono</a>&nbsp;and Zelenovic tallying four apiece. The Jayhawks hit .250 as a team and improve to 20-8 overall and 11-3 in Big 12 play.

"Anytime you can line up your best against their best and get a win, that's a really nice team effort. I'm proud of how we handled the emotions of a rivalry match," said Head Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/coaches/matt-ulmer/892">Matt Ulmer</a>.&nbsp;"They pushed hard in the third set, and I think the old us probably loses that set, but the mature us made good adjustments and finished it."

Kansas and Kansas State traded points early, splitting the first five to stay tied 5–5 in the opening set. KU began to create some separation with a 4–0 run to take a 10–7 lead. The Wildcats answered with a point, but a kill from Ptacek followed by a service ace from Zelenovic pushed the Jayhawks ahead 12–9. Kansas continued to control the pace, adding another 3–0 run to extend the lead to 15–10 at the media timeout.

Out of the break, the teams continued to trade points, with Kansas maintaining its multi-point cushion as Swanson, Ptacek, and Zelenovic each contributed kills to keep the Jayhawks in front 19–14, prompting a K-State timeout. The Wildcats threatened with a pair of points out of the huddle, but KU responded again as Nelson and Zelenovic pushed the lead to 21–15, forcing a second K-State timeout. Kansas State made one final push late, trimming the deficit to 24–22, but the Jayhawks closed out the set on a K-State service error to secure the 25–22 opening frame.

To open the second set, Kansas State took the first two points before a Wildcat service error put Kansas on the board. That break sparked a 9–2 Jayhawk run, as KU jumped out to a 10–5 lead to force K-State to call a timeout to regroup. Out of the timeout, Kansas kept rolling with kills from Swanson and Zelenovic.

The Wildcats responded with three points off Jayhawk errors to cut the lead to 12–8, but KU remained unfazed and answered with steady side-outs that helped restore control, pushing the lead to 16–11. Zelenovic then delivered an ace to extend the advantage to 17–11 and send K-State to a second timeout. The Wildcats earned a few points back off KU attack errors, but the Jayhawks continued to respond with timely kills from Dalton and Ptacek to stay in front 22–17.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Kansas State forced five turnovers in a 14-6 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday.

All of the Wildcats' points came off of those turnovers.

“Our guys showed up and our guys made play after play after play," Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said of his defense.

The offense wasn't so good. Kansas State, which had averaged 34.2 points in its previous five games, was held to 284 yards. Despite that, the Wildcats held on for their third win in four games.

Kansas State, a 19 1/2-point favorite according to BetMGM, didn't care about the margin of victory. Klieman lost his previous three trips to Oklahoma State as the Wildcats' coach.

“This is a hard place to play, so we’re going to enjoy this win," he said. "I’m not apologizing for a win in Stillwater because it’s dang hard to win here.”

Avery Johnson passed for 177 yards and Joe Jackson added 69 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Wildcats (5-5, 4-3 Big 12), who need one more win to become bowl eligible.

Zane Flores passed for 233 yards for Oklahoma State (1-9, 0-7), but he threw two interceptions and lost two fumbles. Oklahoma State has lost nine straight, and seven straight under interim coach Doug Meacham.

“We just want it so bad for these kids," Meacham said. "You’ve got to look them in the eye every day. And they go to it, they work hard and they believe what you tell them and you sell them on an idea and a scheme. They believe in you, and you go out there and you fall short. Just like eventually, it kind of wears you out, you know what I mean?”

Kansas State did not score until eight minutes into the second quarter. The Wildcats got a first down by penalty after it appeared the Cowboys stopped them on a fourth-and-1, and Jayce Brown caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Johnson on the next play. The extra point put Kansas State up 7-6 — a score that held up at halftime.

An interception by Oklahoma State's Parker Robertson early in the third quarter set the Cowboys up deep in Kansas State territory. But Flores fumbled when stripped by Cody Stufflebean, and Kansas State's Zashon Rich recovered to preserve Kansas State's lead.

Kansas State's Jackson ran 15 yards for a touchdown on a fourth-and-1 play to put the Wildcats up 14-6 in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats converted two fourth downs on the drive.

“A field goal, in my mind, was not going to do it,” Klieman said. "We were not going to try to win that game 10-6. We needed to get up 14-6 and make them score. So I thought they were going to have a hard time getting in the end zone.”

The Cowboys reached the Kansas State 26 on their final possession before turning the ball over on downs in the final minute.

Kansas State: The Wildcats played poorly overall but showed enough grit to pull through. The timely plays saved Klieman from an embarrassing loss in a season that began with high expectations.

Oklahoma State: The Cowboys outgained Kansas State by 89 yards, but made too many mistakes to claim their first win under Meacham.

Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon was added to the Ring of Honor in Boone Pickens Stadium at halftime.

Blackmon won the Biletnikoff Award for the nation’s top receiver in 2010 and 2011. He is one of just two players to win the award twice. He had 253 catches for 3,564 yards and 42 touchdowns during his college career and was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

Oklahoma State outside linebacker Malik Charles was injured in the second half after running into a Kansas State player with his head down.

“I think it was more preventative and just being careful than anything, what it felt like," Meacham said. "But he had something -- you can’t just assume he’s okay. But I think it was a little bit more precautionary.”

HIGHLAND, Kan. — No. 1 Hutchinson Community College football team clinched at least a share of the Jayhawk Conference title and extended multiple program win streaks Saturday with a 49-7 road victory over Highland at Porter Family Stadium.

The Blue Dragons (9-0, 5-0 KJCCC) pushed their overall winning streak to 13 games and their road streak to 25. Hutchinson can secure the outright league title next Saturday when it hosts Garden City in the regular-season finale at Gowans Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

Hutchinson controlled all phases, piling up 420 yards of offense, including a season-high 258 rushing yards, while holding the ball for more than 36 minutes. Defensively, the Dragons limited Highland (0-10, 0-6) to 115 total yards and minus-5 rushing. The Scotties converted 0 of 12 third-down attempts and had only 35 combined yards outside of a single 75-yard scoring drive in the third quarter.

Backup quarterback Hudson Ferralez sparked the offense behind center, completing 10 of 15 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown while adding 44 rushing yards and a 15-yard score. Starter Christian Johnson added 43 passing yards and rushed for a 9-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Freshman running back Kade Smith led Hutchinson with 54 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries. Rashaud Hurt ran for 38 yards and a 24-yard score, while Ferralez and Christian Johnson also found the end zone. Freshman tight end Jabari Harris recorded his first career catch, a 16-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

The Dragons produced eight scoring drives, including field goals of 25 and 21 yards by Alejandro de la Poza.

Defensively, Jack Sells and Darius Wiley each had four tackles. Hutchinson totaled two sacks, 11 tackles for loss and a third-quarter safety by TaVeon Robinson. Melik Reed had Highland’s lone takeaway with an interception.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Behind career nights from KaMyra Barber and Kaia Smith, the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team rolled to an 86-68 victory over Murray State College on Friday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons improved to 4-1, while Murray State dropped to 3-2.

Barber delivered a career-high 23 points, going 9 of 18 from the floor and 5 of 5 at the free-throw line, while adding seven rebounds and five assists. Smith added her own career best with 14 points off the bench.

Noelle Anthon added 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting, including two 3-pointers, and grabbed six rebounds.

🏀 Barber, Smith power Hutchinson women past Murray State College

The Hutchinson Community College football team returns to action this week after the season's second bye week and does so on the road to face the Highland Scotties.

The No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons (8-0, 4-0 KJCCC) and the Scotties (0-9, 0-5) will been at Porter Family Stadium in Highland for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) beginning at 12:30 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) calling the action. The game will be streamed live on the Scottie Sports Network, a pay-per-view service.

As the Blue Dragons return to action this week, they have two active and significant winning streaks rolling. The Dragons have now won 12 games in a row, which is the fourth-longest winning streak in program history. Hutchinson is 5-0 on the road this season and have won 24 consecutive true road contests that date back to the 2021 season.

Since 2006, trips to Highland haven't always gone according to plan. Since that 2006 season, the Blue Dragons are just 4-5 at Kessinger Field/Porter Family Stadium. That included the Scotties' first-ever win in the series in 2006 and a 29-27 upset of the Blue Dragons when Hutchinson was ranked No. 1 in 2019.

The Blue Dragons extended their current win streaks two weeks ago with a 27-12 victory over No. 9 Butler in El Dorado. That win was Hutchinson's fourth over an NJCAA Top 10 opponent this season.

Quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/johnson_christian_b2h0">Christian Johnson</a>&nbsp;rushed for two touchdowns and threw for 156 yards, while&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/smith_kade_2uit">Kade Smith</a>&nbsp;made his season debut with 98 rushing yards on 25 carries and a 5-yard touchdown.

Defensively, M.J. Graham had two interceptions and M.J. Harrell had a fumble recovery to lead the Hutchinson defense, which now leads the NJCAA in scoring defense allowing 9.9 points per game.

Highland comes off a near upset of No. 14 Garden City, falling to the Bronc- busters 20-13 last Saturday in Highland. Scotties' running back T.J. Porter rushed for 161 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns, including a 3-yard scoring run with 5:01 to play to cut the Highland deficit to 20-13. Porter was named the KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week for that performance.

During the week leading up to the game with Hutchinson, the Scottie athletic department made some coaching staff changes and named Cameron McGarry the interim head football coach.

The Blue Dragons enter the final two weeks of the regular season as the only undefeated team in the KJCCC and are one of two undefeated teams remaining in the NJCAA (No. 3 Tyler is 9-0 entering the SWJCFC playoffs this week. The Blue Dragons will close the regular season next Saturday at Gowans Stadium against the Garden City Broncbusters.
