WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Wind Surge saw a late lead slip away Thursday night, falling 8-4 in 10 innings to the Arkansas Travelers in the third game of their six-game series at Equity Bank Park.
Wichita (26-28) carried a 3-1 lead into the eighth inning before Arkansas (22-32) scored twice to tie the game and then erupted for five runs in the 10th.
Brandon Winokur homered and drove in three runs for the Wind Surge, while starting pitcher Ty Langenberg allowed one run over five innings.
Langenberg retired the first nine batters he faced before Wichita gave him a lead in the bottom of the third. Winokur connected on a two-out, two-run home run, his ninth with Wichita and 19th overall this season.
Arkansas cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth on an RBI single by Boston Smith.
The Wind Surge added to their lead in the seventh when Quinn McDaniel delivered an RBI double to make it 3-1.
The Travelers answered in the eighth. Charlie Pagliarini hit an RBI double before another run scored on a passed ball, tying the game at 3.
After a scoreless ninth, Arkansas took control with five runs in the top of the 10th to build an 8-3 advantage.
Winokur added an RBI single in the bottom half, but Wichita could get no closer.
Langenberg allowed two hits and one run while striking out five over five innings. Spencer Bengard followed with two scoreless innings and has not allowed a run over his past five appearances, spanning eight innings.
The Wind Surge pitching staff recorded 11 strikeouts, marking the 55th time this season Wichita has reached double figures.
Winokur's home run was Wichita's 169th of the season, leaving the Wind Surge two shy of tying the franchise record of 171. He also scored a run for the ninth consecutive game, one shy of the franchise record.
Caden Kendle extended his hitting streak to nine games.
