Irene June Robinson, 93, of Caledonia, MI, died June 26, 2023, at Legacies Assisted Living. She was born June 21, 1930, in Great Bend, to Samuel and Margaret (Christians) Ahrens.

Irene graduated from Ellinwood High School and Hutchinson Community College. Before her children were born, Irene worked as a secretary at Morton Salt. She then stayed home to raise her family. Irene enjoyed quilting and was a member of First United Methodist Church and EHU. A long-time Hutchinson resident, she moved to Michigan to be near her daughter after her husband, Leonard, passed away.

On February 26, 1956, Irene married Leonard F. Robinson, in Hutchinson. He died November 4, 2015.

She is survived by: her children, Nancy Jacobs (Michael) of Alto, MI, David Robinson (Shawna) of Shawnee; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, William Ahrens of Ellinwood; and many extended family members.

Irene was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Virginia Grey; and brothers, LaVerne, Morris, and Robert Ahrens.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Ave., Hutchinson. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present to receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Vera E. (Knepp) Miller, 82, of Haven, Kansas, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born December 28, 1940 in Haven, Kansas, to Enos and Ada (Yoder) Knepp.

She was united in marriage to Enos W. Miller on November 5, 1959 in Haven. They lived in matrimony for 62 years, 7 months, and 20 days.

Vera was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. She was a devoted homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Enos W. Miller of the home; five children, Eileen (Gene) Schrock of Haven, Loretta (Larry) Eash of Haven, Wilma (Toby) Yoder of Hutchinson, Cliff (Elaine) Miller of Haven, and Nancy (Keith) Keim of Bloomfield, IA; 27 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara Keim of Haven; one sister-in-law, Anna Mae Knepp of Chouteau, OK.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Enos and Ada Knepp; sisters, Ida Petersheim, Treva Yoder, and Katie Schrock; brothers, Levi Knepp, David Knepp, and Omar Knepp; father and mother-in-law, William and Mary Miller.

Phyllis Ann Koenig, 90, of McPherson, KS, and formerly of Kansas City and Eureka, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 23, 2023, surrounded by family at The Cedars, McPherson. Phyllis was a retired hospital administrator for Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.

Phyllis was born on December 8, 1932, in Poplar Bluff, MO, the daughter of Robert Rezin and Hettie Jane (Simmons) Wood.&nbsp; She graduated high school from Poplar Bluff, MO.&nbsp; On October 23, 1954, Phyllis was united in marriage to Richard Dean Koenig in Poplar Bluff.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Cheryl, Steve, and Judy.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 68 years, Richard Koenig; three children, Cheryl (Galen) Swisher of Kula, HI, Steve (Connie) Koenig of McPherson, KS, and Judy (Robert) Sanders of Evans, GA; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Robert Wood, Virginia Davison, and Kenneth Wood; and a great-grandson, Hendrix Koenig.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 29, 2023, at McPherson Cemetery with Rev. Ron Pracht officiating.&nbsp;

Roger Lee Elliott, 84, of Kingman, died June 15th, 2023, at his home.&nbsp; He was born October 10th, 1938, in Wichita KS, to Mary Lucinda and William "Ray" Elliott.

Roger enlisted&nbsp;in the Air Force his Senior Year of high school&nbsp;and Later Transferred&nbsp;to the Army. Upon&nbsp;Returning home he worked as a security guard and Sedgwick&nbsp;Co. Sheriff Reserve. Roger enjoyed going on family picnics, welding, woodworking, amateur ham&nbsp;and CB radio, and collecting model Trains. He Also enjoyed spending time with his two dogs Oscar&nbsp;and Benjamin, and cat snowy.&nbsp;

On September 25th, 1968, Roger married MIriam "Mary" Asmussen. They Shared 54 wonderful years together, She Survives.&nbsp; Other Surviving&nbsp;Family&nbsp;Members include his son Michael Elliott (Kim) of South&nbsp;Hutchinson. Daughter Debbie Piland (Andrew) of Newton. Shirley Ann Dierks, 87, died June 22, 2023, in Hutchinson. She was born October 21, 1935, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, to Wilce and Ollie (Wilson) Spence.

Shirley was a homemaker as her children grew up and later did cleaning in homes and at the Lutheran school and church in Haven. She was a member of Bethany Nazarene Church in Hutchinson. Shirley loved to dance in her younger years and would often go with her husband, Ron. She also enjoyed going on walks and bike rides. Recently, Shirley became a fan of watching basketball and Steph Curry was her favorite player.

In April 1969, she married Ronald Dierks, in Hutchinson. They shared 54 years of marriage together.

Shirley is survived by: husband, Ron, Hutchinson; daughter, Linda Thornburg (Jeff), Hutchinson; sons, Mark Hill (Jo), Hutchinson, Ron Allen Dierks, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Kyle Miller, Andrea Faulkner, Lacy Miller, Barbara Fallis, Amy Shull, Shelby Shull; 16 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and sister, Darlene Barkley, South Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Larry Hill; siblings, Albert Spence, Alma Hicks, Hazel Garrett, Esther Anthony, Jeri Impson, and Wilma King.

Paul Victor ‘Vic’ Kropf, Jr., 78, of Hutchinson, died June 22, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born November 5, 1944, in Coldwater, KS, to Paul Victor, Sr. and Lela (Byram) Kropf.

Vic graduated from Coldwater High School and a business college. He worked for Grede Foundries as an industrial engineer. Vic enjoyed watching and participating in sports, such as, golf, fishing, and coaching baseball. He liked to play card games. When Vic was younger, he loved to ski, camp, hike, and bowl. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

On June 12, 1965, he married Terry Sue Huck, in Coldwater. They shared over 49 years of marriage, before her death on June 7, 2015, just five days before their 50th anniversary.

Vic is survived by: son, Chad (Jenny) Kropf of Hutchinson; daughter, Michelle Shaw of Inman, KS; grandchildren, Ryan Shaw of Hutchinson, Zachary (Krysta) Shaw of Inman, Adalynn Kropf of Hutchinson, and Elam Kropf of Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Athena of Inman.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife; and son-in-law, Jack Shaw.

Eli Cameron Mead, 16, of McPherson, KS passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023. 

Eli was born in Pratt, Kansas on January 7, 2007, the son of Jason Cordel and Jill Elaine (Schneweis) Mead. Eli attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Lincoln elementary school, McPherson Middle School, McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas and Moundridge High School, Moundridge, Kansas. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson. 

Eli enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, loved fire works on the July 4th, swimming, camping, boating, jumping on his trampoline and being outdoors. loved his dog and cat. He loved being with his sister, fast cars, lifted trucks, car shows and spending time with his friends and family.

She was born September 14, 1939 in Hillsboro to Albert and Irma (Richert) Duerksen. &nbsp;She married Harold Unruh August 23, 1959 at Alexanderwohl Church rural Goessel. &nbsp;

Sandra Louise (Kindle) Larson, 80, of rural Marquette, died peacefully at home Wednesday, June 21, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Born December 16, 1942 in Warsaw, MO, Sandra was the second child of James A. Kindle and Leola E. (Bailey) Kindle.&nbsp; Sandy attended school in Warsaw, graduating from Warsaw High School in 1960.&nbsp;

Following high school, Sandy worked for E.C. Bishop’s Gun Stock Company in Warsaw for ten years before moving to Kansas City and taking a job at Black, Sivalls, &amp; Bryson, and then Montgomery Wards.&nbsp; It was at a Montgomery Ward’s Christmas party where she met Merlyn (Merle) Larson.

Sandra &amp; Merlyn were married on November 10, 1973, at First Baptist Church in Warsaw, MO.&nbsp; In 1974, they returned to Merle’s family dairy farm in rural Marquette, KS where Sandy helped Merle with chores &amp; calf rearing for many years.&nbsp;

Sandy’s final career change came in 1989 when she went back to school to become an LPN.&nbsp; She graduated from Central Kansas Vocational School in 1990 with her Practical Nursing Diploma.&nbsp; She found her calling as an LPN at Riverview Estates where she worked for over 20 years, caring for her residents as though they were her own family.

Sandy will be remembered as the strong &amp; loving mother of Matthew &amp; Kirsten Larson and the devoted and generous granny to Magnus &amp; Leif Larson.&nbsp; She rarely missed an event in which her kids or grandkids participated and enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with family.

Sandy was a member of Elim Lutheran Church and served Marquette as an EMT for several years.&nbsp; In recent years, you might have found Sandy gallivanting around the countryside with the three other Golden Girls; Sherry Sneath, Phyllis Odell, &amp; Lois Johnson.&nbsp; It is unclear if any outstanding warrants were still in existence at the time of her death.

Sandy was preceded in death by Merlyn Larson, her husband of nearly 50 years; her brother, Duane Kindle; and her nephew J.D. Kindle.

She is survived by her son Matthew Larson and grandsons Magnus &amp; Leif Larson, Shawnee, KS; daughter Kirsten Larson, Overland Park, KS; sister Kay (Ray) Schenewark, Lincoln, MO; many nieces &amp; nephews; and many friends.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 30 at Elim Lutheran Church, 403 N Lincoln St., Marquette, KS with Pastor Amy Kay Pavlovich officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Marquette Lutheran Cemetery.&nbsp; A luncheon will follow at Elim.

John D Wingo 78, died Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at his Newton residence. &nbsp;He was born March 2, 1945 in Newton, Kansas to Raymond and Margaret (Kasper) Wingo. &nbsp;On December 30, 1990 he married Rita Enns at Newton and she survives of the home.

John was a United States Navy Veteran and Longtime member of the First Christian Church in Newton. &nbsp;He retired from the BNSF railroad.

He is survived by his wife Rita of the home; Son Thomas "Tom" Wingo; daughter Amy Hopper; Step daughters Wendi Hillis and Kelly Klipple; brother Gene Wingo; sisters Virginia Moon and Betty Swafford. &nbsp;He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister Donna Perez.

Memorial service with Navy Honors will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 27th at First Christian Church in Newton with Pastor Gary Bell presiding. &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the Church.

Claudie Clifford Pritchard, 90, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. He was born March 28, 1933 in Scotland, AR, the son of Gliford &amp; Pearl (Cotton) Pritchard.

Claudie attended Buhler High School in Buhler, KS. He enlisted in the US Army, and served in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He later went into the Airforce Reserves. On September 18, 1953, he married Ida J. Pennel in Hutchinson, KS. They shared 69 years of marriage together before her passing on March 27, 2023. Claudie worked for Jackson’s Ice Cream as a maintenance repairman for 35 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #68, Elmdale Senior Center, Delos V. Smith Senior Center, and Friendly Baptist Deaf Church.

Claudie is survived by his seven children, Claudie L. Pritchard, Karen (Valentino) Rodriguez, Leslie D. (Marcine) Pritchard, Charlie E. (Edie) Pritchard, Lola M. (Norman) Elliott, Wayne (Cris) Pritchard, and Don Zwickl; a brother, Bob Pritchard; three sisters, Faith Ann Holms, Peggy Evans, and Kathy Caudillo; 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Ida; a daughter, Debra K. Pritchard; a son, Michael C. Pritchard; and five brothers, Leroy, Harry, Gene, Gary, and Veryl Pritchard.

Sharon Kay Ansel, 76, of Hutchinson, died June 20, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born August 14, 1946, in Walsenburg, CO, to Mike and Rose R. (Zorich) Maxwell.

Sharon graduated from Walsenburg High School, attended Southern Colorado State College in Pueblo and Hutchinson Community College. She worked in the district offices of Nickerson USD 309 for over 30 years before retirement. Sharon loved nature and enjoyed going to zoos and watching nature shows on TV. For many years, she enjoyed bowling with friends in a league. Sharon liked dancing the two step and had a passion for puzzles. She was a big Kansas Jayhawks basketball fan and Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs fan, and loved attending her granddaughter's games all through school. Most of all, Sharon enjoyed being with family.

She is survived by: her daughter, Regina Daines and husband John; and granddaughter, Kaytlyn Daines, all of Hutchinson; niece, Debbie Thomas her children Madeline Gerow and husband Mike, Mike Maxwell Thomas and families; nephew, Steven Maxwell and wife Carla and family; niece, Michelle Smith her children, Alesia Seitz and husband John and family, Micah Maxwell, Olivia Smith and Harmony Hill; niece, Kimberlee Lawson and husband Brian and family.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Vernon Maxwell.

Evelyn R. Rose, 88, of South Hutchinson, KS, passed away peacefully June 22, 2023, at Hutchinson Hospice House. &nbsp;She was born to John C. and Lona (Rehmert) Wight on January 14, 1935, in Fall River, SD. &nbsp;Evelyn met and married Donald L. Rose of Lewis, KS, on June 7, 1953, in her hometown of Kinsley, KS.

Don and Evelyn spent a few years in Tucson, AZ and Tucumcari, NM while Don served in the United States Air Force before moving back to Dodge City, KS in 1962, where they raised three sons. &nbsp;They were members of Dodge City First United Methodist Church and Evelyn volunteered many years for Dodge City Salvation Army Family Store. After Don’s retirement from the Federal Aviation Administration, Evelyn worked for Miller Elementary School at Dodge City USD 443 for 14 years. &nbsp;In 2006, they moved to Mennonite Friendship Communities in South Hutchinson, KS, to be closer to family.

Love of family and faith were a tremendous part of Evelyn’s life, both of which she gifted to those around her. &nbsp;She was an active member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church for 17 years.&nbsp;

Betty Jean Burgess, age 93, met her Lord and Savior and husband Keith, on June 19, 2023, at the Parklane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on February 8, 1930, to George P. &amp; Grace Bush Graham in Scott City, Kansas. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas, and a lifelong resident of Scott City. She was a dental assistant for almost twenty years, then became a secretary for KB Sprayers. She was a member of the Maranatha Singers, beloved Sunday School Teacher for many years and was involved in numerous Bible Studies and prayer groups.

On December 3, 1950, she married Ronald Keith Burgess in Scott City, Kansas, he passed away on August 24, 2021, in Scott City, Kansas. Betty is survived by her daughter - Susan and beloved son-in-law, Terry Rose of Scott City, Kansas, one grandson - Neil &amp; Jenny Rose of Scott City, Kansas, two grand-daughters - Darci &amp; Brent Cain of Manhattan, Kansas, Breva &amp; Josh Spencer of Manhattan, Kansas, three great-granddaughters - Jacy and Tara Rose of Scott City, Kansas, Khloe Spencer of Manhattan, Kansas, and two great-grandsons - Tegan Cain and Ryker Spencer of Manhattan, Kansas, two sister-in-law - Patsi Graham &amp; Bobbie Burgess of Scott City, Kansas, and numerous neices &amp; nephews.&nbsp;

Johnny Allen Gulick was born in California, October 29, 1960. He passed away June 16, 2023, at his home in Hutchinson, KS, surrounded by family.

John is preceded in death by both of his parents and step father. John is survived by his brothers, Steve and Robert, sister, Mary, his wife of 39 years, Jody (Silcott) Gulick, three children, Dustin (Kelsea) Teague, Matthew (Samantha) Gulick, Meghan (Nick) Gulick Lukone, and 13 grandchildren.

John married the love of his life on December 8, 1984. Family has always been very important to John and Jody, and John worked very hard in his life for those he loved. John worked as a plow laborer for Krause, and was the supervisor at Rainbow Bakery.

John always took pride in his yard and loved to mow yards after his retirement. He and his wife Jody were the camp hosts at Cheney Lake for several years, where they met a lot of good people. You could always find John with friends and family, at a garage party or around a campfire. He enjoyed camping and spoonbill fishing. One of his favorite past times was going to coffee every morning, sitting with the guys talking, laughing and joking.

A Celebration of Life for John Gulick will be held at the Home Builders Shelter in Carey Park, Hutchinson, KS, August 11th, 2023, at 2pm. A remembrance service will begin at 3, all are welcome to bring photos and share memories.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Joshua "Josh" Sams |2023|

Helen Alice Voth Bertrand (86) died June 15,2023 in North Newton, Kansas. 

 Helen was born June 8, 1937 in Daming, China to missionary parents William C. and Matilda Kliewer Voth. She joined older siblings Stanley, Leland and Maurine. Helen’s early life was one of near constant motion. 

 In the first two years of her life her family relocated several times within China due to the presence of Japanese forces. The family returned to the United States on furlough in 1939. Over the war years and into the 1950s, Helen lived in several Kansas towns as William taught, pastored and travelled for the Mennonite Mission Board, while the family hoped to return to the people and work they had left in Daming. 

In 1951, Helen accompanied her parents to Japan.  After three years of high school in three cities, Osaka, Miyazaki and Kobe, Helen returned to the United States where she reunited with her brothers as she attended Freeman Academy and Freeman Junior College. 

 In 1959 she graduated from Bethel College and then spent a year earning teaching credentials. Instead of teaching she worked for a year at Prairie View Hospital as a psychiatric aide.  These early years laid Helen’s foundation of faith and her love of people.

In 1961, Helen married Helmut Bertrand. Over the next couple of years, Helen worked in libraries in Newton and Manhattan, KS as they started their family.  After a year in New Jersey the family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan where Helen worked at the Regina Public Library in the children’s department, the Luther College Library, the Saskatchewan Department of Education and Grace Mennonite Church. 

 Her time based in Regina was enhanced by a year living in Munich, Germany and traveling through Europe, as well as a year completing her Masters of Library Science in Emporia, Kansas.   While in Regina, she also nourished a lifelong love of the preforming arts with participation in choirs, volunteering with the Regina Symphony program committee, season tickets to the symphony and several theatre companies, and taking up ballroom dancing in her 50s.

In 1999, Helen decided to return to Kansas where she could be closer to family.  She worked for 5 years at the Moundridge Public Library and filled her spare time with the Bethel College Mennonite Church vocal and bell choirs, Newton Community Chorale, dance classes and travel.  Following retirement, she added volunteer work at the Mennonite Library and Archives, Kauffman Museum, and Book Reviews to her busy schedule.

Helen loved her Mennonite faith, books, travel, the performing arts and people.  A master at remembering people and events, she delighted in meeting new people and figuring out how they connected to others in her life.  As Parkinson’s disease took her ability to enjoy books, she became a fixture on the sidewalks of North Newton.  To the end of her life, she delighted in getting outside to see the flowers and birds and meeting other people on her walks. Thank you to the people who watched over Helen on her perambulations.

Helen’s family is particularly grateful to the entire staff of Kidron Bethel Village where Helen received support, care, and love for so many years. She was blessed to have Rita, Sherry, Maggie and all the nurses, CMAs, CNAs and dining room staff on North Hall watching over her for the last 4 years of her life.  The grace they extended to Helen and her family enriched both her life and theirs.

Helen is survived by her family, Karen Bertrand, Brian, Keith and Paul Adler, Keith, Jill, Jack and Alex Bertrand, Helmut Bertrand and Leland Voth. 

A memorial service is being planned for a future date.  Memorials may be shared with Bethel College, Bethel College Mennonite Church or Kidron Bethel Village.

Diana L. Lyons, 69, of Hutchinson, died June 17, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita. She was born February 6, 1954, in Garden City, to Chester W. ‘Bud’ and Erma Joyce (Giesaking) Marker.

Diana graduated from Garden City High School in 1972. She also graduated from Brown Mackie College. She worked for Integrated Solutions Group, as an accounting administrator for almost 41 years.

In Diana’s younger years, she enjoyed horseback riding and barrel racing. Diana liked to shop. She had a passion for decorating her home for the holidays, but especially for Christmas. There had to be a decorated Christmas tree in every room. Faith and family were the two most important things in Diana’s life. She loved spending time with her family and watching her grandson, Julian, play baseball. Diana was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a long-time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.

On June 19, 1976, she married Ralph A. Lyons in Garden City. They shared over 46 years of marriage, prior to her death.

Diana is survived by: husband, Ralph Lyons of Hutchinson; son, Ty Lyons of Hutchinson; daughter, Tara Lyons of Hutchinson; grandson, Julian Lyons of Hutchinson; brothers, Jeff (Roxanna) Marker of Hutchinson, and John (Michelle) Marker of Land O’ Lakes, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Vickie Elsey; brother, Rodney Marker; and brother-in-law, Virgil Elsey.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Quentin Nuttmann officiating. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson. Diana L. Lyons |1954-2023|

George Washington Sullivan IV, 58, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Mercy Hospital, Moundridge.&nbsp; George was a United States Army veteran and supervisor at Ferguson Production in McPherson.

George was born on January 21, 1965, in Ayer, MA, the son of George Washington Sullivan, III and Gloria Eileen (Solomon) Sullivan.&nbsp; He graduated high school in California.&nbsp;&nbsp; On May 5, 2008, George was united in marriage to DeAnna “De” Kay (McCormick) Vogts in Canton, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on July 26, 2017.&nbsp;

George was passionate about dogs, and dogs could sense his love and would always gravitate to wherever he was.&nbsp; When younger, he had two dogs of his own.&nbsp; &nbsp;He collected comic books and sports memorabilia including baseball and football cards. Playing board games and going to car races were enjoyed with family.&nbsp; He had a generous spirit and would give the shirt off his back to help others in need and would give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

Survivors include: his mother, Gloria Neal of North Newton, KS; a brother, Dale Grant of Wichita, KS; two nephews, Christopher Sullivan and Justin Sullivan, both of Russell, KS; and several aunts, uncles, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, wife, and a brother, Thomas Sullivan.

 </figure>George Washington Sullivan IV, 58, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Mercy Hospital, Moundridge.&nbsp; George was a United States Army veteran and supervisor at Ferguson Production in McPherson.George was born on January 21, 1965, in Ayer, MA, the son of George Washington Sullivan, III and Gloria Eileen (Solomon) Sullivan.&nbsp; He graduated high school in California.&nbsp;&nbsp; On May 5, 2008, George was united in marriage to DeAnna “De” Kay (McCormick) Vogts in Canton, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on July 26, 2017.&nbsp;George was passionate about dogs, and dogs could sense his love and would always gravitate to wherever he was.&nbsp; When younger, he had two dogs of his own.&nbsp; &nbsp;He collected comic books and sports memorabilia including baseball and football cards. Playing board games and going to car races were enjoyed with family.&nbsp; He had a generous spirit and would give the shirt off his back to help others in need and would give everyone the benefit of the doubt.Survivors include: his mother, Gloria Neal of North Newton, KS; a brother, Dale Grant of Wichita, KS; two nephews, Christopher Sullivan and Justin Sullivan, both of Russell, KS; and several aunts, uncles, and extended family members.He was preceded in death by his father, wife, and a brother, Thomas Sullivan.A service will be held at a later date.Memorial donations may be given to the First Baptist Church (Newton) in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.Personal condolences may be sent to the family at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stockhamfamily.com/" target="_blank">www.stockhamfamily.com</a>.

George Washington Sullivan IV |1965-2023|

Orville Duane Dennis, 85, died June 17, 2023, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born May 16, 1938, in a farm house in Clay County, Hayes Township KS, to Frank Hudson and Viola Marie (Marsh) Dennis.

Orville attended a little one room school for a year and a half, then he transferred to Green Grade School until graduating from 8th grade. Later on, while serving in the military, Orville earned his GED and an associates’ degree in law enforcement. &nbsp;

At the young age of 17, Orville enlisted in the United States Army, on January 11, 1956. He was an infantry soldier for almost four years. He changed to artillery in 1959 while stationed in Berlin, Germany. In the following years, Orville was also stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma, Camp Chaffee in Arkansas, Fort Riley in Kansas, South Korea and Vietnam. He was also a recruiter for the U.S. Army for three years before his retirement. Orville served his country for 20 years and 20 days.

Orville was a hard worker and a very honest man. His wife, Joanne, called him ‘Mr. Wonderful’ because he was a wonderful man, generous and would help out anybody who needed help. Orville also loved to travel all around the U.S. in his camper with Joanne and his loving service dog, Rain. &nbsp;&nbsp;

While stationed in Berlin, he met a German girl named Erika Ingeburg, and they were married in April, 1958 and they shared 58 years of marriage before her death in July, 2016. On Valentine’s Day of 2018, he met Joanne Marshall Campbell and they were married September 5, 2018, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, in Hutchinson.

Orville is survived by: his wife, Joanne Dennis of Hutchinson; children, Frank Dennis of Oregon and Rosemary Willems of Hutchinson; stepchildren, Joe Marshall of Texas, Mark Marshall of Texas, Angie Hobbs of Nevada, and Matthew Marshall of Texas; grandchildren, Shanna Yoder, Kate Vance, Jeff Willems, Johnathan Dennis, and Corbin Dennis; 12 great-grandchildren; and his best friend and service dog, Rain of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Per Orville’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Elliott Chapel with Military Honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Private inurnment will take place at Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, Manhattan. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

Mary (Kinney) Crowdes, 85, of Marquette, KS and formerly of Windom, KS, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Paramount in Newton, KS.&nbsp; She was born on April 2, 1938, in Lyons, KS, the daughter of Claud Kinney and Alberta (Weese) Kinney.&nbsp; She grew up in Windom and graduated from Windom High School.&nbsp; She was May queen in 1956.

Mary worked as a cook for Windom Grade School and also worked at Riverview Estates in Marquette where she retired from.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, and she found a love for painting China pieces during her retirement years.&nbsp; She also collected just about every knick knack that she could.&nbsp; Mary was also known for her baking skills and always had some cookies baked for anyone who came and visited her.

Survivors include: her husband, Harold Crowdes of Little River, KS; sister, Marilyn (Gary) Holler of McPherson, KS; sons, Rick John of Pineville, LA, Mike (Teresa) John of Ft. Worth, TX, Clint John of Moundridge, KS, Larry (Tracy) John of Marquette, KS, Tim John of Oskaloosa, KS; a daughter, Melanie John of Roxbury, KS; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Claudine Babcock.

A private family graveside ceremony will be at a later date.

William Leslie “Bill” Strawn, 61, of Hutchinson, died June 15, 2023, at his home. He was born October 13, 1961, in Hutchinson, to Howard L. and Nancy A. (Kirkbride) Strawn.

Bill graduated from Tribune High School in 1980. He was the owner and operator of Strawn Garage in Kinsley for over 30 years before returning to Hutchinson. He enjoyed woodworking in his younger days, gardening, cooking and making beef jerky. &nbsp;Bill’s favorite pastime was hanging out at Table Rock Lake.

On May 12, 1984, he married Janet Lynn Vannahmen. They later divorced.

Bill is survived by: his sons, Nick Strawn (Haley Bond) of Ellsworth, Kevin Strawn of Kinsley; siblings, Jim Strawn (Jacque), Dave Strawn (Debbie), Sue Jones (Jim), Tina Woolley (Terran) all of Hutchinson; and many extended family members.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2023, at Elliott Chapel. Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Fred Ellis Lutz, 80, formerly of Perryton, TX, died June 11, 2023, at Research Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He was born July 28, 1942, in Ellsworth, to Fredrick E. and Lucille (Harmon) Lutz.

Fred graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1960. He served in the United States Navy from 1960-1963. Fred served as a “Boilerman” on the USS Yorktown CVS-10. Fred constantly shared memories of his time in the South Pacific. He worked as a senior technician for ExxonMobil in Perryton from 1964 until retiring in 2002. Fred moved to Kansas in 2021 to be nearer to family.

He enjoyed nice automobiles - at one time owning a couple Ford Galaxy 500’s and a 1964 ½ Mustang. Fred enjoyed hunting and collecting firearms. He always enjoyed building things, from woodworking to improving his home and property. &nbsp;Fred was a member of American Legion Harry P. Stumpf Post #254 in Perryton and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was of the Christian faith.

Fred is survived by: his nieces, Vicky Bonilla (Rod) of Salina, Chris Casteal (Fred) of Carrollton, TX, nephew, Bobby Lutz (Sue) of Hutchinson; niece, Kathleen Carter (Gregory) of Hutchinson; nephew, Steve Lutz (Shari) of Nickerson; sister-in-law, Lupe Lutz of Hutchinson; several great-nieces and nephews; and several other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George and Robert.
