Juan Barrera-Cantu, 61, died April 20, 2020, at his daughter’s home.&nbsp; He was born January 12, 1959, in Matamoros, Mexico, to Jose Manuel and Librada (Cantu) Barrera.&nbsp;

Juan worked as a mechanic.&nbsp; He enjoyed working on cars and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Juan is survived by: his children, Guadalupe (Sergio) Pineda of Hutchinson, Juan M. Barrera of Liberal, Juan A. Barrera, Jr. of Liberal, and Cecilia A. (Omar) Barrera of Liberal; nine grandchildren; brothers, Jose Manuel Barrera, Heriberto Barrera, and Jorge Elias Barrera; sisters, Cleotilde Lucas, Rosalinda Vidal, and Maricruz Guerrero; and the mother of his children, Rosemary Barrera.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents; brother, Enrique Barrera; and sister, Ludivina Barrera Cruz.

Private funeral service was Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Kendall Sheats officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be at a later date in Brownsville, TX.

Melba Inez Smith, 85, died April 19, 2020, at her home. She was born March 6, 1935, in Graham, Oklahoma, the daughter of A.C. and Tressie (Gage) Self.

Melba graduated from high school in Hobbs, New Mexico, and worked in the fabrication department at Kaiser Aluminum for many years. She was a longtime member of Eagles Aerie #2550.

On November 25, 1967, she married Jacob K. ‘Jake’ Smith in Hutchinson. He died August 14, 2002.

Melba is survived by: daughters, Dian Fleming, Kansas, OK, Pamela Kennicott, South Hutchinson, Sandra Hargrove, Columbia, TN; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Zella Nixon, Dallas, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Randal Barton; sisters, Lavonne and Cathleen; and brother, A.C.

A private family graveside service will be held at Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson. A public celebration of her life will be held at a later date.&nbsp; Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Joan Nelson, 87, of Wichita, passed away on April 18, 2020, at Ascension Via Christi- St. Francis in Wichita. She was born April 15, 1933, at Hutchinson, the daughter of James and Myrtle Long.

Joan graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951. She worked for Meyers- Williams Photography and retired after 23 years. She had also worked at The Model and West Street Toybox. Joan had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed gardening, pets, genealogy, Elvis and listening to country music. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She had a fondness for sweets and loved to make desserts. There was always a full candy dish of M&amp;M’s in her house.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Jean; brothers, Vearl Lynn and Richard.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicky DeGeer, Wichita; sons, Randall Nelson and wife Kim of Tulsa, OK., Rodney Nelson of Wichita; two sisters, Mary Brown and husband Bob and Janis Smyth, all of Hutchinson; three brothers, Dean Long of Hutchinson, Roy Long and wife Bertha of Windom and Ronald Long and wife Jan of Hutchinson; two grandchildren Warren Nelson and Molly Nelson of Tulsa, OK.

Joyce Brosius Nusser, 91, of Hutchinson, passed away on April 18, 2020, at Country Living of Larned Memory Unit in Larned, KS, where she has been a resident.

She was born April 25, 1928, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Harold J. and Bertha (Lenz) Brosius. She lived in the Plevna and Sylvia Communities all her life, graduating from Sylvia High School in 1946. On February 10, 1950, Joyce married Arthur Nusser of Plevna, KS. He passed away on October 2, 1981. She worked at the Sylvia State Bank for several years, moving to Hutchinson in 1983. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and of the Silver Leaf Chapter #464 of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1989.

Survivors include her son, Gene Nusser of, Larned; a daughter, Connie Nusser, Tulsa, OK; three grandchildren, William (Katelyn) Nusser, Larned, Eugene Nusser, Wichita and Heather Nusser, Knoxville, TN; three great grandchildren, Kai Blakely, Knoxville, TN, Landon Nusser, Wichita and Reese Nusser, Wichita. Richard Ratzlaff, 96, of Hutchinson, died April 19, 2020, at Hospice House, in Hutchinson.

He was born June 9, 1923, to Dan and Anna (Graber) Ratzlaff, in Pretty Prairie.

&nbsp;He grew up on a farm and spent his first eight years at Sam Hill Grade School. He graduated from Castleton High School in 1941 and from Bethel College, North Newton, in 1948. Richard and Velma Schwartz were married in 1948, in Pretty Prairie.

Rich completed his seminary studies at Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Chicago, in 1953. He was a pastor in Mennonite churches his entire life. Churches pastored were at Deer Creek, OK, Chicago, IL, Holland, PA, Liberal, and Hutchinson. Interim pastoring included Halstead, Inman and Wichita. He and Velma spent four years as co-director&nbsp; at Camp Mennoscah , Murdock. Rich retired in 1988 and spent 25 years enjoying country living near Lake Cheney.

Rich spent many years volunteering at TTV-ETC shop in Hutchinson, being a founding member of the store’s organization. He was an active Civitan member.

His hobbies included reading, fishing, golfing, leather tooling, wood carving and photography.

In 2014, Rich and Velma moved to Mennonite Friendship Communities in South Hutchinson, where he spent his last 5 ½ enjoyable years.

Survivors are: wife, Velma; sons, Tim of Newton, Tom (Donna, Newton; grandchildren, Jen (Cody)Buchanan, Denver, CO, Brian Ratzlaff, Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Julian Buchanan; brother, Marlan (Marvella, Moundridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Floyd and Milford (Patricia).

Allen Dale Roberson, 63, died April 19, 2020, at his home.&nbsp; He was born May 14, 1956, in Hutchinson, to Thomas F. ‘Tommy’ and Mary Catherine (Berry) Roberson.

Allen graduated Hutchinson High School in 1974, and Hutchinson Community College.&nbsp; He retired as a salesman with Dillard’s in Wichita, and most recently, enjoyed volunteering at the Delos V. Smith Senior Citizens Center.&nbsp;

On August 16, 2018, he married Rebecca ‘Becky’ (Stout) Warner, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Becky and Allen attended high school together, and while in high school, performed theatrical productions together.&nbsp; After they were married, they enjoyed many trips to the Kansas, Oklahoma, and Las Vegas casinos.

Allen is survived by his wife, Becky of Hutchinson; and brothers, Wayne Roberson of Hutchinson, and William ‘Bill’ Roberson of Manhattan.

Due to the coronavirus, a celebration of Allen’s life will be held at a later date at the Delos V. Smith Senior Citizens Center.&nbsp; Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Monday at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp;

Maxine Powell, 95, of Hutchinson, died April 18, 2020, at Legend of Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born September 5, 1924, in Smith County, to Allen and Hilma Irene (Drotts) Detwiler.

Maxine was a graduate of Athol High School, Athol, KS, and Sterling College, Sterling, KS.&nbsp; She taught school for 22 years at Obee School, Hutchinson, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were the titles that she treasured the most.

On August 30, 1946, Maxine married Eugene W. Powell, in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp; They shared over 65 years of marriage, prior to his death on December 12, 2011.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Kelly) Sheffler of Hutchinson, Janice (Doug) Kyner of Arvada, CO, and Kenny (Sherri) Powell of Hutchinson; siblings, Dick Detwiler of Wamego, Loren Detwiler of Mesa, AZ, and Carol (Verne) Overmiller of Smith Center; grandchildren, Mark Kyner, Lynne Wasinger, Michelle Kyner, Kellis Bayless, Robyn Lutz, Desirae Pina, Kelly Roberts, and Grace Clinton; and great-grandchildren, Emma Bayless, Jon Lutz, Timothy Lutz, David Lutz, Mariah Pina, Karmen Pina, Evan Wasinger, and Nicholas Wasinger.

Irvin Ray Schmidt, 88, of Hutchinson, died April 18, 2020, at his home. He was born August 26, 1931, in Greensburg, to Louis and Lodie (Wadel) Schmidt.

Irvin attended Greensburg High School. He was a truck driver for Kraft Foods and retired from Vulcan Chemicals. Irvin attended Journey Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson.

On October 1, 1951, he married Norma M. Ricketts, in Wichita. They shared 60 years together before her passing on, January 8, 2012.

Irvin is survived by: daughters, Melinda (David) Nachtrab, Clearwater, and Debra (Chuck) Hoover, Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Johnathan (Lanetta) Nachtrab, Catoosa, OK, Jennifer &nbsp;(Eugenio) Arreguin, New Braunfels, TX, Alicia (Orman) Seese, Broken Arrow, OK, Laura (Evan) Hill, Sanford, FL,&nbsp; and Brooke (Cody) Hays, Sapulpa, OK; and five great-grandchildren.

He was a truck driver for Kraft Foods and retired from Vulcan Chemicals. Irvin attended Journey Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson.On October 1, 1951, he married Norma M. Ricketts, in Wichita. Aavon M. Powers, 97, died April 17, 2020, at Hester Care Center.&nbsp; She was born February 14, 1923, in Garden City, to Lester Layson and Bessie (Pace) Mendenhall.

Aavon graduated from Dodge City High School in 1940, and Dodge City Community College in 1942.&nbsp; She was a Claims Representative for the Hutchinson Social Security Administration.&nbsp; Aavon was a member of Soroptimist International of Hutchinson, State Fair Promenaders Square Dancers, and Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson. Aavon loved her family, her church, her many, many friends, flowers, square-dancing, reading, as well as many other activities.&nbsp; She always had a variety of eyeglass frames, one for every possible occasion.&nbsp;

On February 1, 1947, she married the love of her life, LaVern ‘Vern’ Powers in Dodge City.&nbsp; He died March 20, 2014, after sharing 67 years of marriage. His family considered her one of their own and loved her like a sister.

Aavon is survived by:&nbsp; brother, The Reverend Elborn Mendenhall (Burney) of Topeka; nieces, Leslie Friedel (Tim) of Shawnee Mission, Kathy Lentz (Sheldon) of Towson, Maryland; nephew, Mark Mendenhall (Sarah) of Sycamore, Illinois; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Schuyler, Friedel, Chandler Friedel, and Joyce Friedel, and Paul Lentz and Kate Lentz.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Imogene Powell.

Due to the coronavirus situation, a private funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2020, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Drive, Hutchinson, with The Reverend Dr. J. Ted Blakley and The Right Reverend Michael P. Carolyne A. Seymore, 82, of Hutchinson, passed away on April 17, 2020 at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

She was born August 5, 1937, in Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Kuykendall) Heyen. In 1959, Carolyne married Sammy Seymore in Houston, TX. They later divorced.

Carolyne graduated high school in Terre Haute and went on to get her Bachelor’s Degree in nursing at John Hopkins University and worked for over 30 years at Hutchinson Hospital.

She was a very talented water-color painter. Carolyne had her art work displayed at the Kansas State Fair where she won ribbons. Her art work was displayed at various art galleries and has been displayed in public buildings throughout Kansas. 

Carolyne was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Susan Seymore and a sister, Betty Lawson.

She is survived by her ex-husband, Sammy Seymore, sons, Steve Seymore and Mark Seymore; brother-in-law, Bob Lawson, a grandson, Sean Seymore.

Merna Lee Chance Snay, 99, died April 19, 2020. She was born in Kensington, Kansas on July 17, 1920 to parents William Jennings and Emma Amelia (Wachs) Chance. The family moved to Mount Hope, Kansas in 1935. Merna graduated from Mount Hope High School and she married Howard Snay in 1937. They were farmers in the Mount Hope and Haven area.

Merna was known for superb cooking especially fried chicken, and for winning many contests. She won trips to the Pillsbury bake-off several times. She loved her family and many friends. Merna was a member of the First Congregational Church in Haven and in her younger days, The Flying Needle Club of Mount Hope. She was a patriot and long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Merna was preceded in death by her husband, Howard in 2001; her brother, Bill Chance in 2008 and her sister, Ferne Brooks in 2014.

Merna is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Marlyce Snay, Mary Ann and Fred Saenger, and Joyce Snay all of Hutchinson, KS.; sister-in-law, Joan Hunsberger Chance, Houston, TX.; seven grandchildren, Stephen Saenger, Kansas City, KS., Stephanie and Gary Telleen, Haven, KS., Barbara and Doug Seibel, Mauldin, SC., and Kendra and Jeff Bent, Austin, TX.; seven great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Isaiah Dowds, Rachel and Connor Siler, Sarah and Josh Hoover and John Telleen; and five great-great-grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Evie and Leah Dowds and Oliver Hoover.

James Dean ‘Jim’ Peterson, 73, died April 14, 2020, at his home.&nbsp; He was born April 16, 1946, in Fort Scott, the son of James H. and Doris M. (Dennison) Peterson.

Jim graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1964 and Pittsburg State University in 1968. &nbsp;He taught Industrial Arts at Highland Park High School in Topeka for a number of years. In 1979, Jim moved to Hutchinson to become the Fixed Operations Manager for RZ Sims Chevrolet. &nbsp;In 1982, he realized his dream, with Sharon’s help, and opened Jim’s Water &amp; Woods, Inc., which they ran for 35 years, before retiring in 2017.

Jim enjoyed utilizing Saturday mornings for a thirty-minute radio show advertising the business. His ‘partner in crime’ for the show was Barbara Withrow. &nbsp;They had lots of fun on-air moments and trading barbs, all while advertising the business. &nbsp;Many people thought they were married because of their great chemistry. &nbsp;More than once, Sharon heard people in the grocery store discussing Jim and his wife, Barbara. &nbsp;It always tickled her.

Jim was past president of the Kansas Builders Association and past member of Prairie Pups motorcycle club. &nbsp;He was an avid Goldwing rider and his motorcycle ‘posse’ included C.J. Lett, Don Sturgeon, Lloyd Nunns, Craig Barkley, Tom Westfall, Ted Robinson, and Dale Horn.

Jim loved playing couples golf on Wednesday nights with friends and on Fridays playing with his Willowbrook friends. &nbsp;He was of the Baptist faith.

Jim loved to lead family adventures like 4-wheeling, fishing for big crappie in farm ponds, catching turtles and finding cow bones on hunting trips, taking long road trips - like the infamous one to Padre Island - and determining who could eat the most steak at the Hoffbrau restaurant in Dallas.

The first trout fishing trip as a blended family was rough, to say the least.&nbsp;Six people in Sharon’s Monte Carlo on a 5+ hour drive to Bennett Springs, Missouri. The fishing licenses for all were picked up and everyone had waded out into the water. All heads turned as Tracy, age 8, exclaimed she got one! Indeed she had a fish in her net - without casting her pole. She had just put her net in the water and scooped up one of the trout swimming around them. That’s when Jim taught Tracy her first important trout-fishing lesson:&nbsp;‘You have to catch the fish on a hook.’&nbsp; Sharon still remembers the confused look on Tracy’s face as all laughed hysterically, while the serious anglers around them glared. There were so many more fishing lessons from Jim to follow, including putting the bait on the hook and cleaning the fish.

Jim and Sharon were known to get into disputes about facts on family trips which couldn’t wait to be settled. This was pre-internet days. At least once, a stop had to be made at a small town roadside library to prove to Jim it was Franklin DELANO Roosevelt, not Franklin DELANOR Roosevelt, among many others.

‘Grandpa Jim’ loved spending time with his grandchildren, including teaching his grandson, Andrew, to drive before he had a license, going on donut runs, eating big brunches at Prairie Dunes, and building/fixing all kinds of things.

On July 20, 1982, Jim married Sharon L. Fletcher McKenzie in Wichita. &nbsp;They shared 37 years of marriage. &nbsp;She survives.

Also surviving are: daughters, Kristin Schweitzer (Dan, Bentonville, AR, and Kimberly Long (Jeff, Lawrence; stepchildren, Jeffrey, and Tracy McKenzie, Wichita; grandsons, Andrew Schweitzer and Devlin Bernard; brother, John Peterson (Cathy, Springfield, MO; three nephews; two nieces; and many, many cousins.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; mother-and father-in-law, Robert and Lahoma Fletcher; sister-in-law, Connie Fletcher; and nephew, Daniel Fletcher.

Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp; A public celebration of Jim’s life will take place this summer.&nbsp; Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 - 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

James Torbert, 65, died April 13, 2020, at his home. He was born April 14, 1954, in Hutchinson, to Lonnie and Lovella (Gingerich) Torbert.

James graduated from Partridge High School in 1972.&nbsp; He retired from Rainbow Bakery.&nbsp; James was very independent and enjoyed collecting coins, watching old country shows, and shooting guns.&nbsp; His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren.

James is survived by: children, Charona Owens (Josh, CW3 Tyler Torbert (Katie); grandchildren, Conner Owens, Cassie Owens, Andrew Torbert, and Patrick Torbert; and siblings, Bob Torbert, Debra Cartright, and Mike Cartright.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Brad Torbert.

Cremation has taken place, and per James’ wishes, there will be no service.&nbsp; Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, is in charge of arrangements.

Herbert ‘Herb’ Warren, 81, died April 10, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 16, 1939, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, to James and Eileen (McNitt) Warren.

Herb was a 1956 graduate of Pratt High School and had been a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years.&nbsp;

His favorite hobbies and pastimes included grilling and smoking meat, baking chocolate chip cookies, and attending Texas Tenor concerts.

On March 9, 1969, Herb married Joyce Jeannine Jacobs in Kansas City, KS. His wife of 51 years of marriage, Joyce, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mike of Haysville, and Brenda Kirkendall and husband Geoff of Lawrence; stepsons, A.V. Plank of Salina, and Todd Plank of Hutchinson; siblings, Jeff Warren, David Warren, and Kristina Cavaness, all of Thompsonville, IL; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Herb was preceded in death by: parents; son, Randy; brother, Jimmy; and Mike and Brenda’s mother, Betty Ann, on September 16, 2019.

Everett was a member of the Hutchinson Masonic Lodge and &nbsp;American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68. He enjoyed traveling in his RV, and quail hunting with his Brittany spaniel, Dolly.

On October 25, 1974, Everett married Patricia Dell Donovan, in Garden City. They shared 45 years together.

He is survived by: wife, Patricia Olson, Hutchinson; daughters, Patricia (Frank) Geiger, Erie, Connie (Tom) Ankenman, Hutchinson, and Debbie (Larry) Schiffelbein, Garden City; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brothers, Nels Olson, Rural Stark, Richard Olson, Lenexa, Jerry Olson, York; and sister, Neva Redburn, Chanute.

Everett was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Leon Olson; and sister, Norma Hall.

Nadine was a bookkeeper and bowling instructor for 17 years at Riverside Lanes, South Hutchinson.&nbsp; She retired after nine years of working at Lawrence Vending, Hutchinson, in 1975. Nadine was an avid bowler for 55 years. She served as president of the Hutchinson Women’s Bowling Association, and was a lifetime member of The Women of the Moose.

On April 9, 1946, Nadine married James H. McCue, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared over 72 years of marriage, prior to his death on January 28, 2019.

She is survived by:&nbsp; children, Karen Herdt of South Hutchinson, Terry (Lynda) McCue of Hutchinson, and Pamela (William) Wright of Springfield, TN; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Nadine was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husband, James H. McCue; brothers, William Everett Casey and Ralph Casey; granddaughter, Stephanie Joy McCue; and son-in-law, Gerald Herdt.

On September 16, 1977 she married Lloyd Mattison in Hutchinson. Donna enjoyed spending time in her garden tending to her flowers.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd; brother, Seldon Matthews and two sisters, Barbara Dilts and Wanda Adcock.

Robert Duane Barnett, 76, died at home, April 12, 2020.&nbsp; He was born October 12, 1943, at the family home, near Lebo, Kansas, to Lewis Ernest and Wilma Jones Barnett.

He married Delonna Kaufman Peters on March 20, 1976.

Bob graduated from Lebo High School and later graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.

He taught math and science at Moundridge High School from 1965 to 1975.&nbsp; He also was on the coaching staff at Moundridge High School.&nbsp; He then bought a semi and trucked for S&amp;S Trucking until his daughter was born and he sold the truck so he could see her grow up.&nbsp; Then he worked at Moridge Manufacturing and eventually worked for the United States Postal Service at Moundridge and Hesston.&nbsp; He retired in 2005 and began working for Kropf Lumber in Hesston part-time, until health forced him to resign.

He enjoyed going to the Senior Center for lunch.&nbsp; He kept up on the sports world, mainly college sports, especially football and the NFL. Go Chiefs!

Bob is survived by his wife, Delonna of 44 years; daughter, Nicole Moddelmog, Wichita; step-son, Michael (Christine) Peters, Nixa, MO; &nbsp;four grandchildren, Tracie (Nathan) Woods, Katie (Justin) Fravel, Micheal Peters, and Spencer (Dalton) Hughes; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Carolyn (Gary) Crouch, Lebo; two nieces and one nephew, and five great nieces and nephews.

Jimmy Ray Crow, 81, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at his home in Hutchinson, KS. He was born on July 31, 1938 in Shongaloo, LA to Jessie Crow and Mary (Grisbly) Lister.

On September 17, 1961, Jimmy married Francis Maple in Shreveport, LA.&nbsp; They have celebrated 58 years of marriage. Jimmy worked for over 30 years at Morton Salt as a forklift operator. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the Male Chorus and in the combined Choir. He loved attending church. Jimmy had many hobbies. He enjoyed singing, playing horseshoes, bowling and baseball. 

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Joe Crow and Kenny Crowe; sisters, Beatrice Phillips and Listerine Steward; brother in laws, Gene Jones Sr. and Roger Maple Sr.; and sister in law, Alice Maple.

After a brief illness, Ruth Margaret Smith passed away in the early hours of Good Friday, April 10, 2020. A silent soldier for her Savior, it seems appropriate Ruth earned her Heavenly reward on a day we commemorate the Passion and death of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ruth’s time on Earth was good and wholesome. It included the highlight of raising three adoring children to be strong and independent. She herself was the youngest of four children born to John and Sophie Goranson in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Ruth was a committed member of the Lutheran community. She sang in church choirs, and it was in that music that she met her husband, Jim. Now, when the darkness fell on her final days, the Lord lovingly took her very breath that sang His praise.

Ruth leaves behind son, Brian Smith (Kim, and daughters, Heather Walton (Scott) and Brenda Webb (Bob, along with five grandchildren; Ian Smith, Kylyn Stark, Maci Walton, Tawne Walton and Abbie Walton and three great-grandchildren; Boston Smith, Jagger Smith and Jemma Stark.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Elizabeth Decker, Ann Armstrong, Art Goranson &amp; Helen Martin.

Ruth lived most of her adult life in Topeka, Kansas working as an office clerk for the USDA-Risk Management. The last two years she resided in Moundridge, Kansas within the Pine Village Retirement Community.

She will be interred aside the Immanuel Lutheran Church (Canton, Ks). There will be a small private funeral service at this time as dictated by the current COVID-19 restrictions, but a ceremony to celebrate Ruth’s life will be scheduled at a date to be determined. Donations in Ruth’s name may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church (Canton, Ks) or to Calvary Lutheran Church (Topeka, Ks) in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, Kansas 67107.

A favorite scripture of Ruth was John 14:3, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

A silent soldier for her Savior, it seems appropriate Ruth earned her Heavenly reward on a day we commemorate the Passion and death of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.Ruth’s time on Earth was good and wholesome. It included the highlight of raising three adoring children to be strong and independent. She herself was the youngest of four children born to John and Sophie Goranson in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Ruth was a committed member of the Lutheran community. She sang in church choirs, and it was in that music that she met her husband, Jim. Now, when the darkness fell on her final days, the Lord lovingly took her very breath that sang His praise.Ruth leaves behind son, Brian Smith (Kim, and daughters, Heather Walton (Scott) and Brenda Webb (Bob, along with five grandchildren; Ian Smith, Kylyn Stark, Maci Walton, Tawne Walton and Abbie Walton and three great-grandchildren; Boston Smith, Jagger Smith and Jemma Stark.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Elizabeth Decker, Ann Armstrong, Art Goranson &amp; Helen Martin.Ruth lived most of her adult life in Topeka, Kansas working as an office clerk for the USDA-Risk Management. The last two years she resided in Moundridge, Kansas within the Pine Village Retirement Community.She will be interred aside the Immanuel Lutheran Church (Canton, Ks). There will be a small private funeral service at this time as dictated by the current COVID-19 restrictions, but a ceremony to celebrate Ruth’s life will be scheduled at a date to be determined. Donations in Ruth’s name may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church (Canton, Ks) or to Calvary Lutheran Church (Topeka, Ks) in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, Kansas 67107.A favorite scripture of Ruth was John 14:3, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

David Stanley Wagler, 77, died April 8, 2020, at his home.&nbsp; He was born January 25, 1943, in Hutchinson, to Willie and Alma (Nisly) Wagler.

David was a 1969 graduate of Bethel College, Newton, and attended graduate school at Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL.&nbsp; He was an administrator for the Slavic Gospel Association from 1973 to 1992.&nbsp; David also taught high school mathematics, science, and English, and was a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley and Wagler Investment Solutions.&nbsp;

He was a member and elder of the Berean Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

On January 1, 1975, he married Patricia ‘Trish’ Anne Hershberger in Canton, OH.&nbsp; They shared over 45 years of marriage.

David is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Trish Wagler of Yoder; children, Rochelle Sylvester of Hutchinson, Vanya (Maeleena) Wagler of Wichita Falls, TX, Bethany (Paul) Page of Hutchinson, Maria Wagler of Champaign, IL, Esther (Nick) Egli of Yoder, Sarah (Jordan) Julian of Greeley, CO, and Josiah (Kylee) Wagler of Sterling; 14 grandchildren; and sisters, Evelyn Sauer, Dolores Wagler, and Gloria Miller.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and son, Corporal Peter Daniel Wagler.

Private graveside service will be Friday, April 10, 2020, at the Partridge Cemetery, with Pastor Roger Neir officiating.&nbsp; A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date.

Memorials are suggested to Berean Baptist Church Missionary Fund, Hutchinson, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Bonita C. Fee, 87, died April 6, 2020, at Hester Care Center. &nbsp;‘Bonnie’ was born October 21, 1932, in Lee’s Summit, MO, to Clarence ‘Bill’ and Mildred (Copeland) Roots.&nbsp;

Bonnie graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1950, Hutchinson Community College in 1952, and attended the University of Kansas. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother; on the PTA at Roosevelt Grade School, and, as a YouthFriends mentor at Avenue A Grade School. Bonnie also volunteered by being on the board committees of: Girl Scouts Wheatbelt Council; Reno County Red Cross; Wesley Towers, Inc. (both serving 2 terms).&nbsp; She was a member of PEO Chapter CM, serving as president for six years. In addition, Bonnie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and Bible School Leader and Director. Bonnie Fee practiced daily actions of encouragement, compassion, and empathy towards others, and her purposeful efforts to ease the burdens carried by the people around her, was an inspiration.
