Floyd C. Dodds, age 92, passed away on August 25, 2020 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born in Abilene, Kansas on February 19, 1928 to his parents Rev. Clemit and Inez Dodds. During his growing up years, he attended schools in several places, but he spent his last two years at Haven High School and graduated there in 1947. He married Mary Stalcup in 1948 who passed away in 1994. He joined the United States Air Force in 1951 and served four years there until 1955.

Music was always a big part of Floyd’s life. He was a member of the Hutchinson Salt Miners Chorus for twelve years and sang in a barbershop quartet for two years. He sang in a gospel trio called, “Good News” for two years and also a gospel quartet called, “Glad Tidings” for three years.

He joined the Haven Baptist Church in 1955 and remained active there for sixty years, where he served as Church Deacon for most of those years. His other ministries at the church included teaching the junior boys Sunday School class, Sunday School superintendent, Church treasurer, as well as doing custodial work. His musical talent was used for most of these years as church choir director as well as being a soloist.

He married Gladys Stewart in 1995 and is survived by his wife. Other survivors are his two daughters, Linda (Martin) Morgan of Hutchinson, and Peggy Morgan of Wichita. His grandchildren are Jeremy (Linda) Morgan, Emily (Todd) Vesper, Rachel (Jon) Sawhook, Wesley (Miranda) Morgan and Audrey (Chris) Green. He has two step-children, Jon R. Stewart of Derby, and Sandra Stewart of Gardner and three step-grandchildren, Kellen (Ashley) Stewart, Micah (Mary) Reece, and Jeremiah Reece. There are 18 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Lois Foust, Opal Clark and Vera Koontz.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2020 at Union Valley Bible Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Steve Hodgson and Pastor Dean Flanner officiating. Clarence Riedel, 92, passed away on August 25, 2020 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born May 15, 1928, in Hays, KS, the son of Joseph and Josephine (Zimmerman) Riedel.

Clarence graduated from Lyons High School. After high school, on March 26, 1946, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served overseas on the USS Alabama and General Anderson in the South Pacific. He was later honorably discharged on December 12, 1947. He was an electrician for Kansas Power and Light where he was an Outside District Manager for 42 years covering the towns of Redwing, Odin, Claflin, Bushton and Geneseo. On September 5, 1949, Clarence married Avis Miller at St. Paul Catholic Church in Lyons. She passed away in 2011. Clarence was a member of American Legion #68, IBEW #304 for over 70years, Knights of Columbus, City Commissions in Claflin for 16 years, life member of VFW post # 1361 and was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Avis; and sons, Kevin Riedel and Michael Wayne Riedel.

Clarence is survived by his son Alan Riedel.

Patricia Haskard Holmstrom, 81, of Lawrence, KS, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Brandon Woods Alvamar, in Lawrence. She was born May 9, 1939 in Hutchinson, the daughter of Herbert E. and Ruth (Miller) Haskard.

Patricia graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1957. She attended Wichita State University and Baker University. Patricia married Vernon Hinkle Jr. in July 1961. After Vernon passed away, she later married Jim Holmstrom in April 1997. He also, precedes her in death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husbands, Vernon Hinkle Jr. and Jim Holmstrom.

Patricia is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Matt) McCoy and Kathy (Ted) Stevens; a sister, Judy Schrater; granddaughter, Alessandra (Dennis) Fakelman; grandsons, Jonathon “Miles” (Mackenzie) Stevens and Wyatt DeWein Stevens; one niece and one nephew; and her best friend Karen Eisminger Every.

Loren R. McConnell, 79, of Hutchinson, lover of cold beer and instigator of trouble, passed away quietly at his humble estate on August 25, 2020. He was born January 25, 1941, in Hutchinson, to Harold E. and Helen A. McConnell.

Loren was one of eight children of the notorious ‘McConnell’ clan. He grew up in a one bedroom home that instilled his combative, but comical nature. Loren was rebellious and ornery.&nbsp;

On the glorious day of December 7, 1962, he married Barbara Jeanne Field, in Grand Island, NE. They shared over 57 years of marriage.&nbsp; Although she brought grace and stability to his chaotic and crazy life, Loren’s enormous personality and humorous character remained intact.&nbsp; Names to describe him were as follows, but not limited to (as they cannot be printed):&nbsp; husband, father, son, grandpa, brother, uncle, hero, favorite, friend, ‘Lorney’, and ‘Pops’.&nbsp; Loren loved to travel. He spent numerous years on the road as a truck driver, and traveled extensively with family and friends. Loren enjoyed dancing, socializing, a good video poker game, and loved dogs. He will be sorely missed by all!

Neil Allen Hale, 65, of Haven passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020 in at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 20, 1955 in Hutchinson, the son of Nathan and Wanda Hale.

Throughout his life, he worked at Mid-America Redi-mix, Haven Steel, Cessna and Alcoa. He was an avid deer hunter, always in search of the big one. Allen loved watching KU basketball and was a loud and proud Raiders fan. He played softball his whole life even when his knees begged him not to. He never lost at trivia games and wished the same would have held true for the slot machines he played. He is best known for saying “do like I say, not like I do!”

Allen is survived by his daughters, Amy Hale of Indiana, Katie (Josh) Felix of Hutchinson and Crystal (Tyson) Kohls of Buhler; four grandchildren, Vanessa, Gavin, Kya and Tucker; sisters, Sue Rettig and Nancy Schroeder of Haven. He had a blast being “Uncle Al” to numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Wayne Rettig and niece, Shawna Rettig.

Cremation has taken place. He will be buried with his faithful sidekick Booker T. Hale. Due to Covid-19 precautions, his service at Laurel Cemetery will be private.

Gerald (Jerry) Stucky, 88, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Mennonite Manor Retirement Home in South Hutchinson. He was September 5, 1931, Newton, KS, the son of Floyd and Ruth (Kaegi) Stucky and grew up in Moundridge, KS.

On July 22, 1951, Gerald was united in marriage with Roberta (his wife what’s her name) Robinson, in Hutchinson. Jerry was a veteran of the Korean War. Besides being a remarkable father to three girls (which he claimed caused the loss of his hair) he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Hutchinson and Inman, retiring as the Inman Postmaster. Upon retiring the City of Inman declared “Jerry Stucky Day” by shutting down the city to celebrate his service to the community. As a food vendor at the Kansas State Fair for over forty years, he was known by many in the Pronto Pub business as he was the J in D&amp;amp;J Pronto Pup. Jerry volunteered for many years in PTA, Reno County Elections and on the Board of Hutchinson Postal Credit Union. Jerry enjoyed bringing joy to many children as he played the role of Santa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Byron.

Jerry is survived by his three daughters, Patsy (Tony) Mourn, Shari (Richard) Westphal and Ruth (Bob) Powell; brother Keith Stucky of California; sister, Lois (Walt) Waechter of Oklahoma; 17 grandchildren, Angie Elliott, Shawna Lindsey, Justin Mourn, Tonya Good, Nick Mourn, Alisha Johnson, Jennifer Mabry, Zachary Gagnebin, Katie Bechtle, Julie Westphal, Jodi Mirabal, Ryan Rank, Sara Mae, Sondra Powell, Bethany Plush, Destiny Powell and Journey Powell; 33 great grandchildren and four great- great grandchildren.

Gerald (Jerry) Stucky | 1931 - 2020 |

Mrs. Francisca Omoniyi Ferreira passed away at Diversicare Nursing Facility in Hutchinson, KS on August 19, 2020 of natural causes. She was 89 years old. Francisca was born in Lagos, Nigeria on October 28, 1930 to the parents of Chief and Mrs. Alfred Olaribigbe Oshodi. She was the youngest of eight siblings.

In 1951 Francisca met, fell in love, and married Adekunle Alfred Ferreira. They remained together for 27 years until his untimely death in 1978. To this union one child was born, Obafemi.

At an early age Francisca devoted her life to Christ. She remained a member of Igbala Otito Church in Lagos, Nigeria. She served faithfully in the Women’s Mission where they did outreach in the community trying to bring the loss to the full knowledge of Christ. For many years she served as Financial Secretary of her church until she relocated to the United States. 

She opened a successful catering business in Lagos where she was able to be of service to others. She loved people and people loved her.

Francisca’s hobbies included sewing garments, watching movies, cooking her native foods, and traveling to the city of Ibadan to visit family. She also found joy in flying to several European countries where family and friends welcomed her. One of her greatest joys was sitting in her quiet place reading her Bible every day.

She lived a long and fulfilling life as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and believer in Christ. She will be greatly missed for her sense of humor as well as her concern for others. Mrs. Ferreira’s legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with.

Mrs. Francisca Ferreira is survived by her son, Dr. Femi Ferreira (Dollie) of McDonough, Georgia; two grandsons, Adekunle Ferreira of Kansas City, Missouri and Ayodeji Ferreira of Houston, Texas. She is further survived by a stepdaughter, Sheyi Ferreira, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends in Nigeria and throughout the United States and England.

Francisca was preceded in death by her parents Chief and Mrs. Alfred Olaribigbe Oshodi, loving and devoted husband, Adekunle Alfred Ferreira, and seven siblings.

Services will take place at the Hutchinson Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be the morning preceding the service only. Rev. William J. Green Sr. of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church is presiding.

Francisca was born in Lagos, Nigeria on October 28, 1930 to the parents of Chief and Mrs. Alfred Olaribigbe Oshodi. She was the youngest of eight siblings.In 1951 Francisca met, fell in love, and married Adekunle Alfred Ferreira. They remained together for 27 years until his untimely death in 1978. To this union one child was born, Obafemi.At an early age Francisca devoted her life to Christ. She remained a member of Igbala Otito Church in Lagos, Nigeria. She served faithfully in the Women’s Mission where they did outreach in the community trying to bring the loss to the full knowledge of Christ. For many years she served as Financial Secretary of her church until she relocated to the United States. She opened a successful catering business in Lagos where she was able to be of service to others. She loved people and people loved her.Francisca’s hobbies included sewing garments, watching movies, cooking her native foods, and traveling to the city of Ibadan to visit family. She also found joy in flying to several European countries where family and friends welcomed her. Robert K. “Bob” Krehbiel, age 80, of Buhler, Kansas passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020 at Hospice House of Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born March 2, 1940, in McPherson, Kansas, the son of Arthur “Art” V. and Linda (Gehring) Krehbiel.

Bob graduated from McPherson High School and attended Kansas State University. He was the Kansas State FFA President in 1957 and was the top livestock judge at the American Royal. He served in the United States Army from February 7, 1960 to February 12, 1962 and also served in the Kansas National Guard. Bob was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church and The American Legion.

Bob married Judith “Judy” Tolar July 6, 1958 at McPherson, Kansas. She passed away March 11, 1997. He later married Peggy Jo Rosebrook July 16, 1999 at Hutchinson, Kansas. She survives of their home.

Other survivors include a son, Brad (Krystal) Krehbiel and their children, Kourtney (Daniel) Lane and Kacey (Zach) Jost; a daughter, Lori Rayl and her children, Abby (McKenna) Miller, along with great grandson, Jack Miller, and Parker (Kelsy) Rayl; step-daughter, Deana Houses and her son Jeremy (Carey) Robertson, along with five step great grandchildren; step-daughter-in-law, Terri Robertson and her children, Taylor Roberston and Alex Robertson; step-son, Martin (Misty) Robertson and their children, Tina Robertson and Garrett Robertson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Judy, and step-son, David Robertson.

George David Abney, 80, formerly of Hutchinson, died peacefully at his home August 21, 2020. He was born February 22, 1940, in Denver, CO, to Vant LaVerne Abney and Marie Gladys (Soldan) Fisher.&nbsp;

George graduated from Sheridan High School in Denver, CO and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, from 1963-1965. George worked for Hobart Food Equipment, in Wichita, for 25 years before following his true calling by towing and servicing vehicles for AAA until 2013. George was a gifted mechanic and loved working on old cars; a trait he passed on to his grandsons. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

On June 25, 1976, he married Diana Gail Proffitt in Denver, CO.&nbsp; They recently celebrated 44 years or marriage.

George was a born-again Christian and is survived by his wife, Diana Abney of Kingman; daughter, Melissa Stevens of Mecca, IN; brother, Jack Beagle (Linda) of Arvada, CO; sister, Fran Lukachy (Steve) of Frederick, CO; grandchildren, James Abney (Ashley) of Mecca, IN, Andrew Abney (Oakley) of Rockville, IN, Emily Corbett of Salina, Abigail Casey of Hutchinson, and Kaleb Casey of Park City; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Emma Mae Miller, 50, of Partridge, died peacefully August 21, 2020, at her home. She was born May 7, 1970, in Garnett, to Wilmer and Fern (Yoder) Miller.

Emma worked in the cafeteria at Hutchinson Hospital from 1991 to 2012, and at Carolyn’s Essenhaus, in Arlington from 2012 to 2016. She loved people and never knew a stranger. Emma loved to spend time with her nieces and nephews, and to listen to music while in her rocking chair.

Emma is survived by: her parents, Wilmer and Fern Miller, Partridge; brothers, Joe (Lolita) Miller, Partridge, and Ray (Gina) Miller, Hutchinson; sister, Glenda (Ryan) Yoder, Hutchinson; nieces and nephews, Tasha and Jevon Miller, Quinton and Braxton Miller, Caleb, Jordan, and Izzie Yoder; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Elmer James ‘Jim’ Brawner, 78, of South Hutchinson, died August 20, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born May 29, 1942, in Reed Springs, MO, to Arlie William and Mildred (Whitaker) Brawner.

Jim attended Hutchinson High School and retired as manager of J.D. Auto Salvage, South Hutchinson, with over 40 years of service. He was a “Handyman of all Trades”, who enjoyed woodworking and rebuilding cars. His love for tinkering on projects was only exceeded by his love of being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jim was an avid supporter of his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities, especially ballgames.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

On June 29, 1961, he married Rita Faye Brown, in Hutchinson. They shared over 58 years of marriage, prior to her death on March 17, 2020.&nbsp;

Jim is survived by: his children, Todd (Ginny) Brawner, and Janine (Ted) Calvillo, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Trent (Amy) Brawner, Tiffany Brawner, Peter (fianceé, Michelle Gallo) Calvillo, Ryan Calvillo, and Abby Calvillo; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Brawner of Hutchinson, and Ronnie Brawner of Mason City, NE; and sister-in-law, Hazel Brawner of Hutchinson.

Dale ‘Ed’ Edward Emmert, 83, of Hutchinson, KS, died August 18, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born September 27, 1936, in Redfield, IA, to Lester Dale and Catherine Cecelia (Wagoner) Emmert.

Ed was a 1954 graduate of Redfield High School, Redfield, IA, and a 1958 graduate of McPherson College, McPherson, KS. He lived 46 years in Portage, MI, raising his family. Ed was a research chemist for The Upjohn Company, Kalamazoo, MI, and retired after 32 years of service. He is credited for developing a medication for the heart. Ed was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Portage, MI, and attended Community Church of the Brethren after moving to Hutchinson. Ed had a love for making homemade ice cream. His girls and grandchildren have fond memories of helping with that process. Ed enjoyed working in his woodworking shop, making furniture such as cedar chests, buffets, and tables for his and his wife, Lila’s, home, as well as his three girls’ homes. He also made model tractors, model trucks, and model cars. Ed was recognized as a Grand Champion at the Kansas State Fair several years for his woodworking entries. He had a special love for the family pug dog, Lucy, as well as many ‘granddogs’ in later years.

On June 10, 1959, he married Lila Louise Cook, in McPherson. They shared over 61 beautiful years of marriage.

Ed is survived by: his wife, Lila Emmert of Hutchinson; daughters, Teresa (John) Hiemstra of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Annette Emmert of Hutchinson, and Michelle Bresser of Houston, TX; a fourth daughter (according to Ed and Lila), Sharla Powell of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Josiah (Laura) Hiemstra, David (Erin) Hiemstra, Sara Bresser, and Adam Bresser; and great-grandsons, Wiley Hiemstra and Andrew Hiemstra.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Roger Emmert.

Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life service will be announced at a future date when travel opens between Canada and the United States. Following the Celebration of Life service, there will be a cookout, including homemade ice cream, because that is how Ed would want it. Vickie graduated from Great Bend High School and attended Kansas State University. She retired from Collins Bus Corporation.

On March 5, 1964, she married Alvin ‘Al’ F. Befort, in Manhattan, KS. They shared over 42 years of marriage, prior to his death on September 29, 2006.

Vickie is survived by: daughters, Allison (Brett) Bruch of Mount Hope, and Lisa (Scott) Stoss of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Dalton and Sami Stoss, and Jackie and Jake Bruch; great-grandson, Connor Bruch; sisters, Dede Collier and Brenda Carpenter; brothers-in-law, Keith (Annette) Befort, and Curt (Janice) Befort; sisters-in-law, Wanda (Scott) James, Nancy McCleary, Lois Befort, and Donna Befort; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia Diane ‘Pat’ Sparks, 68, died August 22, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born September 7, 1951, in Hutchinson, to Jess W. and Anna Belle (Brawner) Snyder.

Pat attended Hutchinson schools. She worked at Kmart for 33 years until they closed. Pat then worked at The Stage, Old Navy, and The Sleep Shoppe before retiring. She had a heart the size of Hutchinson and you were her friend from the moment she met you. Family was her #1 priority and she took pictures of everyone and everything. Pat had a strong faith in God.

On May 24, 1968, she married Merrel C. ‘Bud’ Sparks Jr. in Hutchinson. They shared nearly 50 years of marriage before his death on March 31, 2018.

She is survived by: sons, Joey Sparks and David Sparks (Amanda), all of Hutchinson; daughter, Tammy Parker (Brad) of Wichita; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren on the way; and many extended family members.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sharon Bailey.

Paul Dennis Sandford, 74, passed away on August 19, 2020 in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born February 12, 1946, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Willard B. and Reita L.(Boll) Sandford.

In 1965, Dennis graduated from Newton High School. After graduating high school, he married Frances Ann Giesbrecht on January 14, 1966 in Newton. Dennis worked full time as a Correctional Supervisor for 28 years and part time for eight years at Hutchinson Correctional Facility. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, National Rifle Association, Kansas Rifle Association and Central Kansas Gun Club. He was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tracy Lee and son-in-law, Arlen Borntrager; brother, Tom Sandford and a sister, Karen Sue Harper. 

Dennis is survived by his wife, Frances; son, Todd R. Sandford; daughter, Kimberly D. Borntrager; sister, Colleen M. Sandford; grandson, Levi T. Borntrager; granddaughter, Zoe J. Parker and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gerald ‘Gary’ Teter, 79, died August 15, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born July 3, 1941, in Hutchinson, to Jerald and Doris (Field) Teter.&nbsp;

On July 13, 1963, he married Donna Dailey at Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson. Gary and Donna met at church while in high school. They shared 58 years of marriage and have attended Bethany Church of the Nazarene their entire lives.&nbsp;

Gary graduated from Buhler High School in 1959 and Hutchinson Community College in 1962. He was a farmer and stockman his entire life. Gary was a man of few words, but when he spoke his words of wisdom were worth listening to. Gary enjoyed the outdoors and working with animals. Farming was truly his passion. Gary delighted in bringing home unique animals from the sale barn for the grandkids to enjoy. Grandkids were his pride and joy.

Gary is survived by: wife, Donna of Buhler; children, Mark Teter of Kingman, Brenda Schweizer (Tim) of Sterling, and Debbie Feyh (Richard) of Alma; 10 grandchildren, Jana Taylor (Bryan), Kyle Teter (Stacey), Zach Teter, Abby Teter, Danie Prieb (Levi), Austin Schweizer, Ashley Love (Bryan), Macy Pickman (Ryan), Taylee Anderson, and Trex Anderson; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roger.

Celebration of Gary’s Life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2020, at Bethany Church of the Nazarene, 408 N. Kent Road, Hutchinson, with Pastor Jay Bessmer officiating. David attended St. John’s Military School in Salina. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1947 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1951 during the Korean War. David worked for Peoples Natural Gas for 37 years, retiring as Regional Manager. He enjoyed bird-hunting, old tractors, and gun shows.

In 1953 David married Esther R. DeWitt in Clovis, NM. They shared 54 years of marriage before her death on January 31, 2008.

He is survived by: his wife of 65 years, Patricia; children, Sharon (Jim DeFries), Diana, James, Chris (Nancy); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Anna Evonne Scuitte.&nbsp;

Norman was preceded in death by: his parents, Olive and George Sawaya; brothers, Jack, George Jr., Emerson, and Anrol Oliver ‘Buddy’; and a sister, Noreen Cooke Schell.

Norman served proudly as a Marine in the Korean War.&nbsp; In 2014, he participated in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

For over 30 years, Norman sold insurance and was a financial planner.&nbsp; He was an active member at Emanuel Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Norman was also a Shriner, and a member of the Isis Temple Pipes and Drums bagpipe band for many years.

Beulah married Johnny Mastro on March 19, 1955 in Clayton, NM. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sisters.

Beulah is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cindy Mastro, Hutchinson; three granddaughters, Lynn (Andy) Schrader, Tampa, FL, Amy (Gary) Etheridge, Lehigh, KS and Erin (Willie) Burnett, Brighton, TN; six great grandchildren, Emmeryn, Westin, Coda, Oliver, Lizzie and Annabelle; sister, Darlene Brown and sister-in-law, Marge McElwain, both of Hutchinson and nieces Sue Wray of Hutchinson and Kay Spence of Wichita.

Harley Nisly, 87, of Hutchinson, died peacefully in his home on Aug. 13, 2020. He was born March 28, 1933, in Hutchinson, to Edward D. and Elizabeth (Yoder) Nisly.

On November 17, 1955, Harley married Emma (Yutzy) Nisly, in Hutchinson. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2019.

He is survived by two sons and four daughters, Duane and wife, Ruth, Pital, Costa Rica; Christina Barkman and husband James, McConnelsville, OH; Janet Shetler and husband, James, Hutchinson; Dwight and wife, Marlene, Brooklyn, NY; Linda Miller and husband, Arno and Doris Yoder and husband Matthew,all of Hutchinson; 25 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lester (Edna), Larry (Barbara), John Frederick (Sara Mae)Nisly; sister, Barbara Ellen (David E.) Miller; brother-in-law, Paul W. (Nancy) Nisly; and sisters-in-law, Iva Nisly and Cora Nisly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Nathan Edward Nisly; two sisters, Vera Mae and Laura; and three brothers, William, Daniel and Elmer Nisly.

Harley was a faithful member at Cedar Crest Amish Mennonite Church and lived out his faith in many practical ways. He invested many years in Prison Ministry including M2, Prison Fellowship and Freedom Challenge. He reached out to men who needed a friend and mentor.

Harley farmed much of his life and served as administrator of Pilgrim Christian High School for many years.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Cedar Crest A.M. Church. A public graveside service will be 9:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2020, at West Center Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Freedom Challenge, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Tyler Drew Kidd, 34, formerly of Hutchinson, died August 11, 2020, at his home. He was born May 8, 1986, in Hutchinson, to Mark Kidd and Lori (Mendenhall) Kidd Durant.

Tyler graduated from Hutchinson High School in 2005.&nbsp;He enjoyed life, loved to laugh and to make people laugh.&nbsp;Tyler was often found listening to vintage music such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and the Rolling Stones on his old-school record player. He also spent many late nights playing video games.&nbsp;

Tyler joined the United States Army in 2007, in which he found his source of purpose and pride. He served two consecutive tours in Iraq with the 25th&nbsp;Infantry Division.&nbsp;Tyler received the Army Commendation Medal&nbsp;for his exceptional service during Operation Iraqi Freedom.&nbsp;Tragically, Tyler’s Army career was cut short due to a training exercise in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in 2012.

Tyler is survived by father, Mark Kidd (Kristy), Hutchinson; mother, Lori Durant (Brian), Hutchinson; sisters, Gretchen Hughes (John), New Castle, CO, Gemma, Amiah, Naliyah, and Aneesa Durant of the home; brother, Jeremy Kidd (Brandon Dueser), Wichita; stepbrothers, Brok and Kreighton Morris, Colwich; grandfather, Clyde Kidd, Hutchinson; niece and nephew, Hadley and Grayson Hughes; aunts and uncles, Doug Kidd (Cindy), Barbara Moe (Denny), Steve Mendenhall (Annie), Sherrie Owen (Phil), Alan Mendenhall (Kathy); numerous cousins and extended family; and his faithful dog, Teddy.

Tyler was preceded in death by grandmother, Doris Kidd, and grandparents, Elwood and Norma Mendenhall.

Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held in Haviland Cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Topeka VA for their wonderful care for Tyler.

Donna Janette (Phillips) Fallis, 88, formerly of Hutchinson, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020. She was born prematurely at home, weighing three pounds at birth, on September 10, 1931, in rural Montgomery County, near Cherryvale, to Hugh and Bernice (Bowers) Phillips.

Donna attended a rural one room grade school near Stafford, KS, and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1950. After graduation, she took classes at Hutchinson Business School. Donna was a homemaker, and worked in Hutchinson at McDonalds, Cessna Cafeteria, Airport Steakhouse, and Furrs Cafeteria, retiring in 1994. She had attended First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson.

Donna was an avid flower gardener and lover of animals. She raised Pomeranians and enjoyed feeding birds. As a child, Donna had pet chickens, and a pet pig, named Squeaky. She collected bird figurines and enjoyed reading the ‘Bird and Bloom Magazine’. At the age of thirty-five, Donna lost her hearing due to a virus. She lost most of her sight at the age of sixty. Even though Donna was legally blind and deaf, she was an avid reader of science fiction novels, and enjoyed coloring, even though it took hours to complete. Donna would travel with her son, Vincent, by Greyhound Bus, to the West coast, while her husband, Charles, was attending Naval Reserve Camp. She enjoyed yoga, ballroom dancing, drinking Pepsi with a straw, dunking Chips Ahoy cookies in her morning cup of coffee, and watching birds.

On May 25, 1952, she married Charles Ogden Fallis, at First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson. They shared over 57 years of marriage, prior to his death on July 14, 2009. To this union was born four children: David, Cecil, Penny, and Vincent.

Donna is survived by daughter, Penny Vogelmann of Miami, FL; son, Vincent T. (Juanita ‘Mia’) Fallis of Belton, MO; grandchildren, Ian Fallis of Miami, FL, Vincent V. (Shelly) Fallis of Grain Valley, MO, Emrielle (Nathan) VanCleave of Oregon, and Jenny Brockman of Andover; many great-grandchildren; and numerous family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Fallis; and sons, David Hugh Fallis and Cecil Delwayne Fallis.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th, Hutchinson, with Pastor Brandon Conrad officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Verlene “Sue” Pinkston, 73, of Hutchinson, died on August 14, 2020 at Good Samaritan, Hutchinson. She was born February 14, 1947, in Newton, KS, the daughter of Ray and Blanche (Wright) Waldo.

Sue graduated from Hutchinson High School and Bethel College where she received her Bachelor of Social Work. She was a social worker and addiction counselor retiring after 30 years. Sue enjoyed singing and playing the piano, sewing, crocheting and reading. She was a member of Full Gospel Church in Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Willie Mae Porter, Juanita Herring, Linda Latta and JoLene Dement; brothers, Donald and Wendell Urban.

Sue is survived by her children, Dori (Gary) Douglas, Chester (Julia) Pinkston Jr., Missy Pinkston, and Betsy (Patrick) Hahn; siblings, Don Porter, Alice Horrex, Patty Gough and Earl Urban; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave. Hutchinson. Keith Alden Mendenhall, 68, of Hutchinson, died on August13, 2020 at Diversicare, Hutchinson, KS. He was born May 3, 1952, in Hutchinson, the son of Bill and Ivy Irene (Petts) Mendenhall.

Keith graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1970 and graduated from Hutchinson Community College Practical Nursing Program in 1994. On March 19, 1983, Keith married Ruth Ford in Hutchinson. After Ruth’s passing in 2013, Keith married Antonette Roufs on June 20, 2015 in Hutchinson. He was a Home Health and Hospice nurse for 26 years working for Hospice Care of Kansas, Intermin Health Care. Keith was also one of the founding members of Trails West EMS, a volunteer fire fighter for 15 years with District 6. Keith testified before the senate committee to change the law that allows emergency vehicles to use blue lights along with red lights on emergency vehicles.
