James A. Isaac, M.D., F.A.A.N., died May 3, 2020, at home surrounded by family. He was born September 3, 1953, in Kansas City, KS, to Dr. Charles Arnold and Dr. Anita Mae (Landrum) Isaac.

Dr. Isaac graduated from Newton High School in 1971, Kansas University in 1976, and the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1983. After two years of internal medicine at UMKC, he completed a neurology residency at the University of Kansas. His career as a neurologist spanned over 31 years. Dr. Isaac was board certified in neurology and further sub-specialized in electrodiagnostic medicine and stroke. He practiced at Halstead’s Hertzler Clinic 1989-2000 before working at the Hutchinson Clinic for 20 years. &nbsp;In Wichita, he oversaw the Muscular Dystrophy Clinic and the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Clinic.&nbsp; Known for soft-spoken thoughtfulness, he devoted himself to his patients and colleagues. Dr. Isaac loved his family, hiking and traveling, especially to the Rockies.

On June 4, 1977, he married Susan Timmer from Chicago, IL.&nbsp;

Dr. Isaac is survived by his wife Susan of 43 years; sons Richard, Gregory and Kevin; sister Carol Isaac and partner Carrie Lindblad; sister Amy Isaac-Scott and husband Dalton; and stepmother Marty Isaac.

He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Charles Isaac, mother Dr. Anita Isaac and sister Dr. Kathryn Isaac.

"I, Jeraldine Jane, better known as Jeri was born to J.P. and Martha (Penner) Nickel on February 18, 1940. Mom, Dad, my sister Lula and I completed our small family. At the age of five years, I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. October 27th, 1959, I married Clinton Lee Schmidt of the Goessel community. Our lives centered around farm life. Clint and I had the joy of becoming parents to three children: Robert Dean, Janelle Rose and LeRoy Wayne. I was a stay at home mom until they went out to make families of their own and eventually gracing me with grandchildren and great grandchildren. At that time, I began working as an RA. I enjoyed helping people in this way and felt it to be my ‘calling’.

Rosella Reimer Duerksen died at home in Tucson, AZ on April 30, 2020. She was born on January 12, 1926, on the 46th birthday of her father. A day which should have been joyful for her family, Maria and Abraham Boese and Rosella’s five siblings, turned into a day of tragedy when her mother died. Abraham Boese, in his state of grief, turned for help to the first cousin and very, close friend of his wife, Katharina Voth Reimer and husband Thomas Reimer. At first, her birth father was unwilling to consider adoption by the Reimer family, saying that he could never give up a child. However, several months later, tragedy hit a second time in the form of a car accident which left Abraham Boese&nbsp;with a broken back, an ultimately fatal injury in those times. He then consented to a permanent adoption. Thus, Rosella grew up as part of the Reimer family, while, at the same time, experiencing the continuing love of her Boese siblings.

The Alexanderwohl Mennonite Community in central Kansas, where Rosella was born and lived through college, provided strong nourishment in the Christian faith, in academic leadership, and especially in music. Thus, after completing a B.A. degree at Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas, she attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, earning the Masters of Music Degree. She returned to Bethel College to teach for several years. After marrying Harold Duerksen, both moved to New York City and continued their education at Union Theological Seminary. Rosella earned her Doctor of Sacred Music Degree in conjunction with The Julliard School of Music and Columbia University Graduate College of Music. Following graduation, Rosella and her husband moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where her husband worked at the University of Michigan in the School of Religion. Here she experienced her first bit of discrimination when, having applied for a church music position, she was informed by a committee member that “Your resume is very impressive, but we are afraid the tenors of the choir will not accept a woman conductor!”&nbsp; So, Rosella organized a semi-professional choral ensemble which was named the “Ann Arbor Cantata Singers” (still in existence-she conducted a part of their 50th&nbsp;anniversary concert in April 2011). Soon thereafter, she was also employed as the Choral Director at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. (The Pastor was a member of the “Cantata Singers”.)

Moving to Iowa City with her husband when he was offered a position at the University of Iowa School of Religion, Rosella served from 1966 to 1980 as the Director of Music for First Presbyterian Church. Here she built a strong music program, with choirs for children, teenagers, and adults. Her&nbsp;choirs regularly performed major works of musical art. &nbsp;She organized a semi-professional choral society, The Iowa City Chamber Singers. In addition to performing a yearly concert series, in 1972, she founded an Annual Bach Festival. She had the help of Doris Preucil, prominent Suzuki teacher, in addition to her husband. The Bach Festival&nbsp;featured a wide variety of Bach works: oratorios,&nbsp;cantatas, and orchestral works. Guest conductors for the Bach Festivals included Helmut Rilling, Thor Johnson, Thomas Dunn, and Ifor Jones.

In 1980, Rosella moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where her husband had taken a position with the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. Here she became the Music Director of a semi-professional choral group, the Arkansas Chamber Singers, (which had the honor of singing for the inauguration of President Bill Clinton) and again developed a strong music program at Second Presbyterian Church. In this church&nbsp;she initiated an&nbsp;annual Religious Arts Festival, which brought religious art exhibitions, Hymn Festivals featuring prominent organists, and Choral Concerts to the community. She retired from Second Presbyterian in 2000 and moved to Tucson, AZ.&nbsp;

After “retirement” and moving to Tucson, AZ, &nbsp;Rosella was active in the local American Guild of Organists, working as a program chair for a number of conferences, and continuing to serve in the music programs of both St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church and St. Frances Cabrini Church, where she was the music director for over 10 years.

Rosella and her husband are the parents of three children; Kathleen, Reconstructive and Plastic Surgeon in Tucson (husband, Kevin Finnegan, Kristina, living in San Diego, and handicapped son Tom, living in Tucson under the loving care of Sandy Lein.&nbsp; Also, in the family are grandson, Edward, and great-grandson, Micah.

Due to state mandates and the serious nature of COVID-19, the family will have a private service. Interment will be in Alexanderwohl Church Cemetery. Kenneth B. Oswald, 93, of Hutchinson, died May 3, 2020, at Mennonite Friendship Communities. He was born September 10, 1926, in Beemer, NE, to Daniel and Kate Oswald.

Kenneth worked as a farmer and stockman and owned and operated a feed, seed, and produce store in Nebraska. He was a friend to all and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Kenneth enjoyed coffee and playing pool with the guys, was an avid reader, and a dedicated prayer warrior for his family and friends. He was a member of Journey Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson.

On March 30, 1952, Kenneth married Fern Elizabeth Kauffman, in Goshen, Indiana. They shared 64 years together before she passed on January 13, 2017.

He is survived by son, Mark (Connie) Oswald, Hutchinson; daughter, Marcy (Glen) Sommerfeld, Kinsley; grandson, Justin (Melisa) Sommerfeld, Mound Ridge; granddaughter, Jill (Brett) Wiens, McPherson; grandson, Nicholas (Dana) Oswald, Wichita; grandson, Nathan (Tara) Oswald, Buhler; and seven great-grandchildren.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fern Oswald; and five brothers.

A private family graveside service will take place at Yoder Cemetery.

William ‘Bill’ A. Pulliam, 77, of Hutchinson, died May 2, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born February 8, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, to William and Mildred (Decker) Pulliam.

Bill graduated from Larned High School in 1961 and attended Hutchinson Community College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. Bill loved to golf and bowl. He loved all sports and his favorite teams were the Royals, Chiefs, and Jayhawks.

On June 3, 1997, Bill married Elaine Parker, in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives.

Other survivors include son, Ty (Cherish) Pulliam, Hutchinson; daughters, Kelly (Kelly) Roberts, Shona (John) Helms , both of Larned, and Vonda (Toby) Halfhill, Great Bend; son, Stacy Pulliam, Independence, Missouri; stepdaughters, Diana (Jim) Borders, and Shawn (Troy) Driskell; stepsons, Doug and Duane Millet, all of Hutchinson; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A private family service will take place beside the grave at Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

William 'Bill' A. Pulliam | 1943 - 2020 |

John William Davis, 92, of Hutchinson, died April 30, 2020, at Newton Presbyterian Manor. He was born December 13, 1927, in Altus, Arkansas, to Samuel and Mary (Buck) Davis.

John graduated from Altus High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army for 23 years, including time in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.&nbsp; &nbsp;After the military, John worked as a probation officer in Hutchinson. He was a member of the Hutchinson – Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. &amp; A.M. and attended First Baptist Church in Raymond. John enjoyed hunting and fishing and always had a huge garden.

On April 6, 1952, John married Bernice Van Buren, in Bentonville, Arkansas. They later divorced. On April 5, 1987, he married Isabelle Strickland, in Raymond, KS. She preceded him in death in July 2015.

He was born December 13, 1927, in Altus, Arkansas, to Samuel and Mary (Buck) Davis.John graduated from Altus High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army for 23 years, including time in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.&nbsp; &nbsp;After the military, John worked as a probation officer in Hutchinson. He was a member of the Hutchinson – Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. &amp; A.M. and attended First Baptist Church in Raymond. John enjoyed hunting and fishing and always had a huge garden.On April 6, 1952, John married Bernice Van Buren, in Bentonville, Arkansas. They later divorced. On April 5, 1987, he married Isabelle Strickland, in Raymond, KS. Linda Faye Phipps, 72, joined her Lord and Savior on April 30, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born July 29, 1947, in Russell, to Henry Warren and Wilma Faye (Keller) Mitchell.

Linda graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1965.&nbsp; She worked in sales at Sears from 1983-2003, for the electronics department. Linda was a member of Victorious Life Church, a prayer warrior, and loved to tell people about Jesus. She taught Sunday School for over 12 years, was involved in the Kairos prison ministry, and had a weekly Bible study for the women living at Mission Place.

On June 3, 1989, she married Randall Dean Phipps, in Hutchinson. Linda and Randall became reacquainted in the early 1980’s, when Randall was walking through the electronics department at Sears and eyed Linda. They shared almost 31 years of marriage.

Linda is survived by husband, Randall of Hutchinson; children, Todd Stuart (Janae) of Liberty, MO, Shawn Stuart of Traverse, MI, Angela Jarrett of Hutchinson, and Lisa Dalke of Maize; brothers, Daryl Mitchell and Marvin Mitchell, both of Hutchinson; and five grandchildren, Faith Jarrett, Micah Jarrett, Gabriel Phipps, Campbell Stuart, and Reagen Dalke.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Thelma was a homemaker and worked various jobs outside the home, retiring from Collins Bus Corp. in 1994. She was a past member of Windy Acres Motorcycle Club and enjoyed camping, cards and coffee with her friends. On May 19, 1948 she married Earl Northern in Sharon Springs, KS. He passed away February 13, 2002 after 54 blissful years.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Freda Eileen; brothers, Milton and Donnie; sister, Mary Ellen Keihl; brother in law, Vern Wertz, Stanley Tubbs and Earl Hickman; sister in law, Helen Wallace.

Robert E. Albright, 88, passed away at his home, April 30, 2020. He was born in Hutchinson, KS, February 18, 1932. Parents were Arthur and Elva (Seedle) Albright.

He graduated from Haven High School in 1950, Hutchinson Junior College and Wichita State University with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He served nine years in the Army Reserves. He also worked with his dad on the family farm. He retired in 1993.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Debra Wood (Ken); grandchildren, Matthew (Cassey) and Kristin Wood; great granddaughter, Rose Wood; brother-in-law, James Morgan (Phyllis); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Randy, brothers-in-law, Wayne (Ardean) and Earl Morgan.

Juanita graduated from St. Teresa Catholic High School. She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church. After raising her five boys, Juanita spent 31 years as a cook for Holy Cross Catholic School. Her greatest joy in life was her family.

On April 11, 1959, Juanita married LeRoy W. Ketchum in Hutchinson. They shared 61 years of marriage. He survives.

Also surviving are sons, Tom and Tanya, Shell Knob, MO, Tim and Cindy, Hutchinson, Terry and Kristy, Sylvia, Troy and Sherry and Todd, all of Shell Knob; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Westgate (Ralph, Hutchinson, and Velma Seitz (Nick) of Kennebunk Port, ME;&nbsp;numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Darlene Melland, Dolores Crathorne, and Freda Young.

Virginia ‘Ginger’ L. Werth, 68, of South Hutchinson, died April 28, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born May 30, 1951, in Hutchinson. Ginger was the middle child of seven children, born to Keith and Barbara Lou (Skellenger) Hobbick.

She was a 1969 graduate of Hutchinson High School. Ginger was employed by the South Hutchinson Housing Authority for over 20 years.&nbsp; She enjoyed ceramics, being outdoors, working with her flowers, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ginger married Fred Werth, Jr, in November 2003, in South Hutchinson.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Fred Werth, Jr., of Hutchinson; children, Chris Stutzman, John Stutzman, Katherine (Eugene) Werth Wilbourn, and Mike (Misty) Werth; grandchildren, Krinn Stutzman, Kenzi Stutzman, Bryson Stutzman, Jordan Vincent, Najahaun Tipton-Wylie, Zane Stutzman, Zayden Stutzman, Tiffani Glen, Kayla Butler, Jesseca Wilbourn, Megan Welch, Jordan Werth, and David Brown; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Sandy (Dean) Wedman, Lynn (Chuck) Montgomery, Kim (Mark) Trent, and Janet Hobbick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carol graduated from Hutchinson High School, the University of Central Arkansas, and received her master’s degree from Emporia State University. She was a grade school teacher for Buhler USD 313 for 35 years. Carol was a member of Delta Zeta sorority and the National Education Association.

On June 10, 1962, she married Frederick A. Bichet in Hutchinson. They shared 57 years of marriage. He survives.

Also surviving are son, Stewart Bichet, Burns; daughter, Shauna Bichet (Andreas, Irvine, CA; granddaughters, Viktoria Boucher (Jesse, Florence, Erika Bichet, Emporia; grandson, Ryan Stuhr, Irvine, CA; great-granddaughter, Charlee Ann Boucher, Florence; and sister, Barbara Platt (Dennis, Safety Harbor, FL.

He was a switchman for the railroad for nearly 40 years, beginning his career with Rock Island Railroad and retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2000. After retiring he worked for Paul Nisly Auction. Gene was a member of Maranatha Mennonite Church. He was also a member of the Salt City Cruisers, ROMEO, Campers on Mission, and Railroad Retirees Group.

Gene married Sue Edwards on December 30, 1968 in Hutchinson, KS. She survives of the home.

Amalia Mora, 82, of Hutchinson, passed away on April 27, 2020, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born April 25, 1938, in Costa Rica, the daughter of Rogelio and Hilda (Fernandez) Castro.

On November 21, 1959, Amalia married Remigio Mora in San Jose, Costa Rica. Amalia worked at Motel 8, Ineeda Cleaners and McDonalds. She was also a member of Apostolic Faith Tabernacle. Amalia was very happy and outgoing. She loved God and her family with all her heart. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Amalia was preceded in death by her parents; husband Remigio; three brothers, Edgar, Efrain, Geraldo and one sister, Margarita.

Survivors include her four sister, Lidia, Isabel, Odillia and Alicia; four children, Majie (Steven, Luis, Maritza, and Jeanette; nine grandchildren, Christina, Johnathan, Erica (Ogi, Eric, Daniel, Kristen, Samantha, Josiah, Jazmin; and seven great grandchildren, Israel, Sofija, Aubrey, Anthony, Elijah, Kaydance, and Ivory.

Nina Koehn, 94, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Monday, April 27, 2020 at Moundridge Manor. She was born November 26, 1925 in Verden, Oklahoma, the daughter of Nathaniel and Hannah (Schmidt) Zeiset.&nbsp;

She was a devoted homemaker. Nina was a member of Grace Mennonite Congregation in Halstead.

Nina was united in marriage to Herman S. Koehn on October 19, 1986 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1995.

She is survived by her stepsons, Truman (Aurel) Koehn of McPherson, Melvin Koehn of Moundridge, Jerald (Linda) Koehn of Halstead, Dennis (Martha) Koehn of Alabama, and Gene Koehn of Ruleville, Mississippi; sister, Johanna (Franklin) Toews of Moundridge; 31 step-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren.

Ann Elizabeth (Stoppel) Gilbreath, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020, at Main Street Manor in Russell.

Ann was born January 12, 1930, on a farm south of Dorrance Kansas.  She was one of five children born to Alexander and Bertha (Galyardt) Stoppel.  The family then moved to Lucas Kansas where she attended school and graduated from Lucas High School. Shortly after graduating from High School, Ann moved to California where she went to school and lived in Southern California until 2015, when she moved back to Kansas to be near family.

Ann was united in marriage to Jack Gilbreath.  They divorced later in life.  Jack preceded her in death.  Ann was known as "Aunt Betty" or "Betty Ann" to her family in Kansas. In California, all her friends knew her as "Ann".  Ann was a Secretary for many businesses in California until her retirement. She also was a Hostess for Wine Shows and Tastings in California.  She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, and going out to eat. She also enjoyed entertaining when her family came to visit her in California.

Surviving family include two brothers, Harold Stoppel (Betty) of Hutchinson, Kansas and Melvin Stoppel (Janice) of Russell, Kansas; brother-in-law Ben Griffin of LaFayette, Georgia, and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Lucille Steinert and Carol Jean Griffin, two nieces, Alane Radke and Darlene Henry, and two nephews, Alfred Steponick and Keith Stoppel.

A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 30, 2020, at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell, Kansas. Jane attended the Preston and Turon public schools. She graduated from Turon High School in 1945, attended Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, and taught at Turon Grade School.

Jane married Clarence A. Nickels, in 1947. They moved to the Plevna area in 1949, where they raised their children.

She is survived by her children, Paula (Darrell) Johnson of Kansas City, and Andy (Rebecca) Nickels of Plevna; grandsons, Rob (Angie) Johnson of Wichita, Ryan Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Cody (Kelsy) Nickels of Langdon, and Clint (Emily) Nickels of Plevna; granddaughter, Rhonda (Shane) Davis of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Makenna Johnson and Cole Johnson of Wichita, Cohen Johnson and Reese Johnson of Kansas City, MO, and Case Nickels of Plevna.

On November 1, 1947, Iris married Harold Richard Tuxhorn, Sr., in Byers, Colorado.&nbsp; They shared over 72 years of marriage.

Iris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and will be missed greatly by everyone who knew her. The family takes comfort in knowing that she is with her eternal father in Heaven.

Glenn Wright Carey, 86, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Pleasant View Home in Inman. He was born October 1, 1933 in Richton, Mississippi, the son of Charles Washington and Bessie (Wright) Carey.

He attended schools in Richton, Mississippi. After his military service, he graduated as a machinist at Jones County Junior College in Mississippi.

He was united in marriage to Allie Faye Frye on September 15, 1957. She preceded him in death on October 23, 1980. He later married Carolee Goering on February 14, 1982. She passed away on December 23, 2007.

Glenn served in the United States Army as a power bridge specialist from 1952 until 1974, retiring with the company E. 10th&nbsp;Engineer Battalion 3rd&nbsp;infantry division, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his time in the Army, Glenn served two tours in Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star and the following citations and decorations; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with five Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, three Overseas Bars, six Service Stripes, Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M-14, Army Occupation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Commendation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. With his military career, he served all over the world, including Hawaii, Germany and many locations in the United States.

He moved to Moundridge in 1981 and was a member of the Eden Mennonite Church.

Glenn loved his horses. He had a doctor’s buggy that he drove.&nbsp; He had a passion for traveling and fishing. Above all, he has a special love for his family.

He is survived by his sons, Eddie (Sheila) Carey of Moundridge, Kevin (Vickie) Carey of Richton, MS, and James Carey of Moundridge; step daughter, Colleen (Gary) Brown of Topeka; sister, Dolly Edwards of Richton, MS; thirteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Angela Peterson; daughter-in-law, Ruth (Wedel) Carey; brothers, Charles Washington Carey, Jr. and Roy Carey; and sister, Anna Lois Valentine.

Cremation is planned with private family services to be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.

Robert ‘Bob’ Dean Beltz, 92, of Haven, died the evening of April 22, 2020, at Haven house. He was born January 19, 1928, outside Bazine, KS, the son of John and Daisy (Fitzsimmons) Beltz. Bob was a 196 graduate of Haven High School. In 1949 he graduated from Hutchinson Junior Colleg, which is where he met, and was totally smitten by Nancy McElhinney, who became his wife of over 66 years. Bob married Nancy on July 19, 1949, in Sylvia.

Bob was a farmer, rancher, and horseman. He farmed outside of Haven. Bob was an excellent horseman and horse trainer. Bob was a member of the Kansas Western Horseman Association and Wichita Area Team Penning, earning numerous outstanding awards in both showing and penning. He was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Haven.

Bob was known for his phenomenal wit, sense of humor, and warming smile. He never lacked for a joke, amusing anecdote, or song (he also had a beautiful singing voice) to fit any occasion, many of which he taught to his kids and grandkids over the years! Bob had such a meticulously organized shop, that those working with him knew if tools were left lying around, they would likely be stamped B-O-B and placed in the correctly labeled drawer! He loved his family and was always thrilled to have visits from his grand and great-grandchildren, always game for a horse or tractor ride.

Bob is survived by: daughters, Cindy Lott and Jan Beltz; granddaughter, Brynn Howard (Michael Loughrie, her children, Vance, Brooke, Dustin, and Tanner; granddaughter, Taryn (Brooks) Dohrman, her children, Brayden, Trey, and Haylie; and grandson, Colton Howard.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Nancy Beltz; son-in-law, Dean Lott; and his sisters, Doris Brosius and Wilma Bauman.

A private burial will take place and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Haven House, who cannot be thanked enough for their outstanding care of Bob during his stay there, or the American Red Cross, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Deanna A. Mitchell, 78, of Belton, Mo., passed away April 21, 2020.

Deanna was born May 8, 1941, in Hutchinson, Kan., to C. Lloyd and Ida Murphy. She graduated from Hutchinson High in 1960 and married her high school sweetheart, Douglas M. Mitchell, on March 29, 1961. They were married for 51 years.

Deanna worked a number of jobs to help support her family, starting as a secretary for Decker &amp; Mattison Co. while Doug attended Hutchinson Community College. She later was a Boy Scout den mother in Partridge, and a choir director for the Methodist Church in Pretty Prairie, where she also was an Avon sales representative and drove the kindergarten bus route (in a station wagon). Deanna served the De Soto School District as a library aide in two elementary schools for more than a decade and showed her children a strong work ethic by working as the district's painter during sweltering Kansas summers.

Deanna continued to work in school libraries, as well as the USD 308 media center, after the couple moved home to Hutchinson in 1991. Doug and Deanna both retired from USD 308 after more than 15 years of service.

She enjoyed crocheting blankets for family and friends, making quilts for their babies and was a first-rate cook. She was a good softball player in her youth, an outstanding bowler into her mid-60s and loved to cheer on the Royals, Chiefs and Jayhawks. She hiked up Pikes Peak in Colorado four times with her beloved father. And like her "Pa," she loved to tell stories, regardless of how many times you had already heard them.

Doug and Deanna were avid gardeners, and she delighted in making, canning and sharing&nbsp; homemade salsa with ingredients from their own backyard.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Sarah ‘Peggy’ Murphy; husband; and son-in-law Donald Coffman.

She is survived by her three children: son Douglas Mitchell of the Bronx, New York; daughter Darla Coffman of Peculiar, Mo.; and son David Mitchell (Michelle Renner) of Shawnee, Kan.

Deanna also is survived by six grandchildren: Kellee Coffman (Tony Culley) of Harrisonville, Mo.; Kylee Pennay of Independence, Mo.; Jack Mitchell of Cresskill, N.J.; and Renee Mitchell, Eleanor Mitchell and Samuel Mitchell of Shawnee, Kan.; three great grandsons: Weston Coffman, Jack Pennay and Lincoln Pennay, all of Independence, Mo.; and one great granddaughter, Kynlee Culley of Harrisonville, Mo.

Other survivors include her sister, Deloris Murphy of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers: James (Lois) Murphy of Stockbridge, Ga.; Johnie (Opal) Murphy of Palermo, Calif.; and Bill (Jan) Murphy of Sonora, Calif., and more than a dozen nieces and nephews.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions on large gatherings, the family plans to hold a memorial service at a later date. A private burial will be at Laurel Cemetery, near Haven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hutchinson Public Library, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St., Hutchinson, Kan. 67501.

The family takes comfort knowing Doug and Deanna are together again. And after seven years apart, he is probably ready to hear some of her favorite stories again.
