Edith M. Schiefelbein, 96, master seamstress and tailor, joined her heavenly father family on December 8, 2020. She was born in Texas County, Missouri on February 4, 1924, to Ola and William Latimer. She was welcomed into their family by older sister, Maybelle and brothers, Lawrence, Clarence and later her younger brother Walter.

Edith moved to Wichita, KS in 1942 to join in the war effort by working at Boeing, helping to build B-17 and B-29 bombers; as an original ‘Rosie the Riveter’. Later she worked for Langdon Tent & Awning and Ponca Canvas as a seamstress. After the war, she met and married Mearl R. Schiefelbein in March of 1946.

Edith was predeceased by her husband, parents and siblings. She is survived by her children, Mearl Jr. ‘Duke’ Schiefelbein (Laura) and Evelyn S. Wilson (Basil); grandchildren, Ryan D. Schiefelbein (Alicia), Basil Wilson (Rayetta), and Chloe’ Wilson (Rex Gehring) and five great grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held at Old Mission Cemetery in Wichita. Memorials may be made to Kindred Hospice, Hutchinson Street Cat Society or Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, all in care of Buhler Mortuary, PO Box 589, Buhler, KS 67522.
