Henry Harold Wedel, 82, of Goessel, Kansas, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born November 15, 1938 in Goessel, the son of Henry H. and Alma (Schmidt) Wedel.

Henry attended Goessel schools, graduating from Goessel High School with the class of 1957.  

He married Verda Wiens at the Goessel Mennonite Church in 1958 and shortly after their marriage he served in 1-W service at General Rose Hospital in Denver, CO. for two years. 

Henry worked for Hesston Corporation, currently known as Agco Corporation, for 45 years. He also farmed and raised livestock. Being avid campers throughout their lives, they enjoyed family camping trips several times a year. He was a long time member and leader of the Goessel Mennonite Church, singing in the choir and also the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus (KMMC). He and Verda went on the KMMC concert tour to Europe in 2000. They enjoyed travel on cruises, bus trips, and annual trips with the grandkids to locations such as Oklahoma City and Branson. Soon after retiring he played pool and went to pool tournaments at the Agape Center where he eventually served as a board member. Following Verda’s passing, he coordinated regional pool tournament schedules and frequent coffee dates with his friends.  

Henry was preceded in death by his wife in June of 2017 and is survived by his four sons; Ron (Becky) Wedel, Tim Wedel and Bob Wedel, all of Goessel, and Daryl (Jacque) Wedel of Newton; one sister, Irene (Jerry) Snow, Scott City, KS and two brothers Melvin (Barbara) Wedel, Newton, and Ken (Barbara) Wedel, Moore, OK; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Goessel Mennonite Church Cemetery, Goessel.  Friends and family are welcome to attend. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Home or Goessel Mennonite Church in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, PO Box 96, Goessel, Kansas 67053. Cards may be sent to the family at PO Box 444, Goessel, Kansas 67053, as there will be no family visitation.
