Keith Alden Mendenhall, 68, of Hutchinson, died on August13, 2020 at Diversicare, Hutchinson, KS. He was born May 3, 1952, in Hutchinson, the son of Bill and Ivy Irene (Petts) Mendenhall.

Keith graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1970 and graduated from Hutchinson Community College Practical Nursing Program in 1994. On March 19, 1983, Keith married Ruth Ford in Hutchinson. After Ruth’s passing in 2013, Keith married Antonette Roufs on June 20, 2015 in Hutchinson. He was a Home Health and Hospice nurse for 26 years working for Hospice Care of Kansas, Intermin Health Care. Keith was also one of the founding members of Trails West EMS, a volunteer fire fighter for 15 years with District 6. Keith testified before the senate committee to change the law that allows emergency vehicles to use blue lights along with red lights on emergency vehicles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth P. Mendenhall and brother Neil G. Mendenhall.

Keith is survived by his wife Antonette, daughters; Peggy Bennett of Hutchinson, Antonette Miller of Altis, OK, Lavonda Cochran of McPherson and Sonja Hammer of Lyons; sons, John Mathew Owen Parker of Bel Air, Nick White, John Ford, both of Hutchinson, Dennis Redger of Sun City, CA and Scott Redger of Hutchinson; and 15 grandchildren.

Jerry Dean Cathcart, 85, died Monday, August 10, 2020, at Thorne Care Center. He was born February 23, 1935, in Cave Springs, Arkansas, to Hershel and Eunice Bell (Ford) Cathcart.

In 1953, he graduated from Newkirk High School, Newkirk, Oklahoma. Jerry attended Park Place Christian Church.&nbsp; In 1990, he retired as Trainmaster from BNSF Railroad Company.

While employed by the railroad, he held the positions of Telegraph Operator, Dispatcher, and finally Trainmaster. &nbsp;Of all the positions he held, Jerry enjoyed his work as Dispatcher the most.&nbsp; He earned the nickname ‘ Pushcart’ from his co-workers for his expertise and diligence loading passengers and luggage onto trains and it stuck with him.&nbsp; Jerry enjoyed taking road trips across the country to visit relatives and friends.&nbsp; He also enjoyed fishing and working in the yard.

He married June E. Cowan, September 7, 1958, in Caney, Kansas. She died December 4, 1999. On December 10, 2004, Jerry married Marion (Hildebrand) Whitlock, in Hutchinson. She survives. Also surviving are: stepchildren, Beth Allen and husband Keith of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Marcia English and husband Mark of Leawood, Cheryl McLean and husband John King of Lecompton, Daniel McLean and wife Vicki of Wichita, Cary Whitlock and wife Cindy of Clearwater, Lance Whitlock of Ellinwood, Laine Whitlock and wife Dixie of Vernal, UT, and Julynn Whitlock of Stafford; 10 step-grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Noema Alford; and step-grandson, Austin McLean English.

Cremation has taken place. Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020, at Elliott Chapel, with The Reverend Dr. David Dubovich officiating. Private inurnment will be in Fairlawn Burial Park. Frank W. Williams Jr., died August 6, 2020 at The Wesley Towers in Hutchinson, KS. Frank was born February 23, 1925, the son of Frank and Algona (Reynolds) Williams. He grew up in Sterling Kansas on a farm. 

Frank is a retired Navy veteran, boxer, golfer, chauffeur, and part of the Masons Society. He enjoyed yard work, especially watering the plants. He enjoyed traveling the world and taking pictures of his adventures.&nbsp; It was while he was working as a chauffeur that he met the love of his life, Lucene (Topps) Williams. She died May 5, 2007. She was working as a maid for a Kansas City, Mo., family. They had brought her out to Colorado with them for a vacation. Williams happened to be the chauffeur of a Wichita family who vacationed on the other side of the mountain. They fell in love and got married December 4, 1949 in Kansas City, Mo. They enjoyed life taking many of cruises together. Frank let his aggressions out in the boxing ring and became a three-time Golden Gloves champion. He was also a coach. While he and Lucene never had their own family, they loved the boxing kids as if they were their own. He grew up spending lots of time with his nephews Henry Henderson and Norman Henderson. Both now deceased. Frank belonged to the Second Missionary Baptist church.

Frank is survived by two cousins Zenobia Pope and Lilly Whitley; niece - in - Law Annette Henderson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maria Luisa Rivera de Snyder entered into the presence of the Lord on August 10, 2020, at the age of 89. She lived a life full of adventure, advocacy and service. She lived for her family and her faith community because Maria had a passion for discipleship.

Maria was born February 5, 1931 at home in La Plata, Puerto Rico to Ramon and Maria Matilde Gonzalez Rivera. She is preceded in death by her husband, James A. Snyder; and her sisters, Librada, Tildin, Josefa, and Junita Rivera.

Maria is lovingly remembered by her son, Jeff (Kim) Snyder; daughter, Lisa (Daryl) Hostetler; grandchildren, Kenny (Rachel) Hostetler, Erin Hostetler, Miranda (Justin) Soriano, and Madalyn Hostetler; and great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Charlotte “Charlie” Hostetler.

She is survived by her siblings, Primitivo Rivera of Bronx, NY, Camin, Ramon, Hilda Ofelia and Jose Guillermo Rivera, of Puerto Rico.

Faith in our Lord Jesus was essential for Maria. Raised in the Catholic Church, she accepted the Mennonite doctrine, faithfully serving her community. Having a passion for the Hispanic community Maria was involved in establishing the Mennonite Hispanic Women’s Conference in 1972. She authored Spanish Devotionals, heath guideline pamphlets and was an advocate for health and wellness.

Maria graduated in 1956 from Goshen College, IN with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. During her career, she worked all areas of nursing including; education, management, bedside nursing and hospital supervision. She worked in many states and Puerto Rico, retiring in Texas.

Along with discipleship, Maria used her nursing skills in empowering her patients, especially in women’s health. Lamaze education was an avenue in which Maria touched the lives of women; encouraging them and affecting all aspects of women’s health issues. She was a pioneer in bringing Lamaze childbirth education to Kansas.

An interment celebration service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Eastlawn Cemetery, 5920 N Road, Newton, Kansas 67114. This will be an outdoor service and anyone who knew Maria is welcome to join the family at this time. Please wear a mask. Maria loved her hats and you are invited to wear a hat to celebrate her positive spirit.

Elizabeth Dettwiler passed away August 10, 2020 at Prairie Sunset Home in Pretty Prairie, Kansas. She was born in Haven, Kansas on February 22, 1925 to parents Harvey and Lena (Keim) Borntrager.&nbsp;

On November 11, 1948 she married Paul Dettwiler in Haven.&nbsp; He passed away November 2, 1995.

Elizabeth was a homemaker and a longtime resident of Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a former member of Yoder Mennonite Church, Yoder, Kansas, South Hutchinson Mennonite Church, and First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson and a current member of Pretty Prairie Mennonite Church. Elizabeth enjoyed quilting, sewing and embroidery but she cherished her family most of all.

She is survived by her son, DeVon Dettwiler (Linda) of Hutchinson; daughters, Joyce Gerlach (Daniel “Dewey”) of Pretty Prairie, Freda Duvall, of Hutchinson, and Nelda Dettwiler of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother, Lee Borntrager (Ruby), Hutchinson; sister, Ada Eash (Perry), Yoder, Kansas; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 17 step great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Rudy Borntrager and brother, Edwin Borntrager; sisters, Laura Bezemek, Emma Miller, and Mattie Borntreger.

Velma graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1947, where she enjoyed playing sports, such as ping pong, basketball and volleyball. Velma attended Hutchinson Community College, studying business and singing and performing in the school musicals. High school friends created a coffee group called the Heckling Hens, and she enjoyed continued friendships with them.&nbsp; She was also a member of a dinner group that included women who used to work for Sears, where she worked for many years, before retiring in 1991. Velma originally started working at Sears when the store was located on Main Street, where she was the telephone operator, using the old style plug-in switchboard.

Velma was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, and enjoyed reading, singing and watching game shows on television.

In 1948, she married Lee D. Dunham, in Hutchinson, while he was serving in the United States Navy. They moved and lived in Davenport, IA, and Kellogg, MN, before returning to Hutchinson. He died December 6, 1970.

On November 14, 1987, Velma married Robert D. ‘Bob’ Geist, in Hutchinson. He died January 13, 2017.

She is survived by children, Terry (Judy) Dunham, Scottsdale, AZ, Tim (Cheryl) Dunham, Lawrence, Connie Bossemeyer, Salina, Neil (Theresa) Dunham, Topeka; grandchildren, Amber (Matt) Peterson, Erica and Carley Bossemeyer, Cindy (Gabe) Jacobson, Kyle Dunham, Cole (Chelsey) Dunham; great-grandchildren, Adelynn and Logan Peterson, Daxton Tyner, Evan Leach, Presley and Emma Jacobson; siblings, Helen Gregg, Wichita, Larry Beale, Winfield; sister-in-law, Barbara Johnson, Hutchinson; stepsons, Ken (Mary) Geist, McPherson, Keith (Lorna) Geist, Bel Aire, Larry Geist, Hutchinson, Bill (Donna) Geist, Sterling, and their families; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Regena Rene ‘Gena’ Raigoza, 58, died unexpectedly Monday, August 10, 2020, at Wesley Rehabilitation Hospital, Wichita. She was born October 15, 1961, in Hutchinson, to Charles Fredrick and Marjorie Ann (Brack) Wehmeyer.

Gena graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1979.&nbsp; She worked at Woodwork Manufacturing &amp; Supply for the past 10 years as a bookkeeper. Gena enjoyed sewing, crafts, and her dogs.&nbsp; For 12 years, she was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, Hutchinson, where she taught Sunday school to hundreds of children (including her grandchildren), sharing with them the message of Jesus Christ. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.&nbsp; Gena’s grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

On June 8, 1979, Gena married her high school sweetheart, Chris Raigoza, in Hutchinson. They enjoyed 41 years of marriage.

Timothy Lee ‘Tim’ Scott, 62, died August 8, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born February 18, 1958, in Hutchinson, to William ‘Bill’ and Barbara Scott. &nbsp;(Ironically, Tim’s parents died on the same month and day as Tim, August 8, 2008, in a tragic car accident).

Tim graduated from Burrton High School in 1976 and Hutchinson Community Junior College in 1978. He grew up in Burrton, but began his working career in Hutchinson. Tim worked at Master Machine Tools for five years, Consolidated Manufacturing for 20 years, Tyson Prepared Foods for three years, and Nation Pizza Products for eight years.&nbsp; He was currently working for Full Vision, in Newton, as a maintenance mechanic, a job Tim held for six years.

In his spare time, he enjoyed working with electronics, especially the internet and online auctions, and attending flea markets.&nbsp; Tim’s favorite ‘Scott Family’ card game was Cutthroat Pinochle.

On September 7, 1978, he married Nancy Owens, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; (Their wedding was the same day and time as Nancy’s maternal grandparents’ wedding). Tim and Nancy shared almost 42 years of marriage.&nbsp;

In 1953, he graduated from Newkirk High School, Newkirk, Oklahoma. Jerry attended Park Place Christian Church. In 1990, he retired as Trainmaster from BNSF Railroad Company.

He married June E. Cowan, September 7, 1958, in Caney, Kansas. She died December 4, 1999. On December 10, 2004, Jerry married Marion (Hildebrand) Whitlock, in Hutchinson. She survives. Also surviving are stepchildren, Beth Allen and husband Keith of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Marcia English and husband Mark of Leawood, Cheryl McLean and husband John King of Lecompton, Daniel McLean and wife Vicki of Wichita, Cary Whitlock and wife Cindy of Clearwater, Lance Whitlock of Ellinwood, Laine Whitlock and wife Dixie of Vernal, UT, and Julynn Whitlock of Stafford; 10 step-grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews.

Lori graduated from Fredonia High School and Butler Community College where she received her nursing degree. She worked for Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center and was a home health nurse retiring after 15 years. Lori married Douglas Borton on June 18, 2011 in Hutchinson. Lori enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren and was a Steelers fan.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gene.

Lori is survived by her mother, LaRita Berger; husband, Douglas; three children, Beau Williams, Courtney Jensen and John Borton; seven grandchildren, Kinley, Cailey and Cori Williams, Hadley and Jameson Jensen; two brothers, Earl and Rodney Berger and a sister Judy Hilyard; step-siblings, Lynn Jones, Mike Jones and Michelle Gillman.

William Rex Johnson, 83, of Hutchinson, died August 6, 2020, at his home. He was born January 18, 1937, in Cushing, OK, to William Abraham and Mabel Estelle (Bowen) Johnson.

Rex was a 1955 graduate of Lorraine High School, Lorraine, KS, and served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. He lived most of his life in Lorraine. Rex served as the city mayor, worked at the elevator, drove a school bus, worked at the First Baptist Church, and owned (along with his wife), Louise, the Lorraine Cafe. He enjoyed gardening, building things in his garage, and watching the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. Rex enjoyed many things, but he loved watching his granddaughters participate in their activities, such as basketball and volleyball.

On February 4, 1967, he married Louise Beagley, in Chase. They shared over fifty-three years of marriage.

Rex is survived by his wife, Louise Johnson; daughter, Shirley (Brad) Yoder; granddaughters, Macie and Kaitlin Yoder; and sister, Marilyn Hines, all of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mavis Houser.&nbsp;

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at the Lorraine Baptist Cemetery, Lorraine, with Pastor Lonnie Voth officiating. Dennis Lee Allison, 79, of South Hutchinson, died August 5, 2020, at Mennonite Friendship Communities. He was born January 21, 1941, in Hutchinson, to Lloyd S. and Charlotte L. (Edwards) Allison.

Dennis graduated from Nickerson High School in 1959. He attended Hutchinson Community College, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from McPherson College, Master of Arts in Administration of Justice from Wichita State University, and Doctor of Philosophy in Criminal Justice Management from LaSalle University. Dennis also served in the Air National Guard and was a member of several professional organizations.

He was the Reno County Undersheriff from 1972-1978 as well as working in other law enforcement positions in western Kansas. Dennis taught criminal justice at Hutchinson Community College and Colby Community College.

He is survived by children, Mitchell Lloyd Allison, Michael Lee Allison, Deedra Kay Allison; a niece and a nephew; and several cousins.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Judith Allison and Janice Allison Chambers Brown.

Cremation has taken place. Private graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2020, in the Sylvia Cemetery, Sylvia, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.

(Edwards) Allison.Dennis graduated from Nickerson High School in 1959. He attended Hutchinson Community College, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from McPherson College, Master of Arts in Administration of Justice from Wichita State University, and Doctor of Philosophy in Criminal Justice Management from LaSalle University. Dennis also served in the Air National Guard and was a member of several professional organizations.He was the Reno County Undersheriff from 1972-1978 as well as working in other law enforcement positions in western Kansas. Dennis taught criminal justice at Hutchinson Community College and Colby Community College.He is survived by children, Mitchell Lloyd Allison, Michael Lee Allison, Deedra Kay Allison; a niece and a nephew; and several cousins.Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Judith Allison and Janice Allison Chambers Brown.Cremation has taken place. Bruce D. Hill, 73, of Hutchinson, died August 7, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born May 28, 1947, in Hutchinson, to Delmar and Ruby (Gaeddart) Hill.

Bruce graduated from Nickerson High School in 1965 and Emporia University in 1970. He worked for Dillons in Human Resources and then at Apac Shears as the Human Resources and Safety Manager. As a youth Bruce was a Boy Scout. He eventually became an Eagle Scout and was awarded the Order of the Arrow. &nbsp;Bruce enjoyed riding four wheelers, swimming, auto maintenance, Bible studies, and playing with his grandchildren. He was a devoted member of Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson, serving as a Bible teacher, Deacon, and Elder.

On May 27, 1966, he married Sue Jones, at Eastwood Church of Christ, in Hutchinson. They shared 54 years together.

Bruce is survived by wife, Sue Hill, Hutchinson; daughters, Ambi Hill-Smith, Oklahoma City, Staci Hill-Ford, Buhler; granddaughters, Tori Smith, Lily Smith, Ella Smith, all of Oklahoma City, and Savannah Ford, Buhler; brothers, Larry Hill, Hutchinson, and Randy (Susan) Hill, Kingman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant grandson, Vincent Bruce Ford; infant brother, Ronald Hill; and nephew, Robert Hill.

William “Bill” Edward Nisly, 88, died on August 5, 2020, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. He was born on October 22, 1931, to Edward and Lizzie (Yoder) Nisly, in Hutchinson, Kansas. &nbsp;On April 29, 1956, he married Elizabeth Yutzy.

William was baptized as a teen in the Amish church, and was a member of Cedar Crest Amish Mennonite Church.

From 1952 to 1954, William served as a conscientious objector in the 1-W program at the Denver General Hospital. When he returned, he helped on the family farm due to his father’s failing health.

In 1962, William started working at Henson Dairy Supply as a dairy sales and serviceman, where he made many friends. In 1974, he bought the business with two of his brothers, which he continued until his retirement. For many years, he served on the Mennonite Friendship Manor board, the Etc. Shop Board, and was involved in numerous prison ministries.

William is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; their five children, Loretta (Arlis) Helmuth of Kalona, IA, Rosalie Nisly of Hutchinson, KS, Darrell (Kathryn) Nisly of Sioux Narrows, Ontario, Joanna (John) Riehl of Hutchinson, KS, and Eugene (Sharon) Nisly of Hutchinson, KS; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Harley, Lester (Edna), Larry (Barbara), and John Fredrick (Sara) Nisly; sister, Barbara Ellen (David E.) Miller; brother-in-law, Paul W. (Nancy) Nisly; and sisters-in-law, Iva Nisly and Cora Nisly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters, Victorious Sunshine and Rhiannon Elizabeth; two sisters, Vera Mae and Laura; and two brothers, Daniel and Elmer Nisly.

Visitation is on Friday, August 7, 2020, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral is on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., both at Cedar Crest Amish Mennonite Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at West Center Cemetery.

Earnest ‘Sam’ Maldonado, 80, of Hutchinson, died August 5, 2020, at Hospice House. He was born September 25, 1939, in Eagle Pass, TX, to Simon and Julia (Cortez) Maldonado.

Sam served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a police officer for the city of Stafford for over 20 years, retiring as Chief of Police. Sam had a lifelong love of the mountains, developed when he lived in Fort Collins, CO. He enjoyed ‘tinkering’ and music, playing his guitar and singing. But most of all, Sam loved spending time with his family and their activities. He was of the Jehovah’s Witnesses faith.

On October 2, 1965, Sam married Kathryn K. ‘Kathy’ Baker in Clayton, NM. They shared over 53 years of marriage before her death on June 29, 2019.

He is survived by children, Kevin Maldonado (Scott Coldwell), Danbury, CT, Erin Harmony (Jacob), Hutchinson, Korey Maldonado (Angie), Hutchinson; grandchildren, Kacey Sullivan (Adam), Lawrence, Sam Maldonado (Jenessa), McPherson, Evan and Alena Maldonado, Hutchinson, Jake Kern, Wichita, Ian, Grant, Max, and Owen Harmony, Hutchinson; sisters, Minnie Hagerman, Brighton, CO, Christine Kellogg of Texas; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and his beloved dog, Ebony.

Ellis G. Young, 86, of Hutchinson, died on August 2, 2020 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born June 20, 1934, in Hoxie, KS, the son of Edward and Nola (Aumiller) Young.

Ellis graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1952. On December 27, 1956, Ellis married Kathryn Laskowski in Minot, ND. He was a manager at Meschke’s Clothing and Blosky Clothing and retired after 40 years. Ellis was an avid and a very good golfer. In his spare time he enjoyed watching golf on T.V. and was a fan of KU basketball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Connard, Loy, Buell, Marshall and Ben; and two sisters, Berneda Fredrick and Beverly Thomas.

Ellis is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn; his daughter, Becky Young and his son, Grant Young.

There will be no services held at this time. Hutchinson Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Ann Koehn, 85, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Moundridge Manor. She was born January 4, 1935 in Galva, Kansas, the daughter of Henry P. and Anna (Koehn) Unruh.

She was a member of United Center Mennonite Church in Galva.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Dale D. Koehn on November 12, 1954 in Galva. He survives of the home.

After her marriage, they lived various places before settling down on the farm North of Galva. She was a devoted homemaker, where she helped on the family farm. Dorothy enjoyed cooking and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.

She is also survived by her sons, Keith (Jeanette) Koehn of Fruitland, Idaho, Kelly (Karleen) Koehn of Galva, Roger (Audrey) Koehn of Galva, and Kendall (Dana) Koehn of Hazelton, Idaho; daughters, Diane (Gary) Becker of Galva, Cheryl (Rodger) Koehn of Lakin, and Gayla (Jason) Koehn of Galva; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sisters, Verbie (Norman) Koehn of Moundridge, and Irene (Melvin) Schaffer of Barron, Wisconsin; and sister-in-law, Rosalie Unruh of Minerva, Ohio.

Toni Lea Bell, 62, of Galva, died Monday, August 3, 2020 at her home in Galva. She had worked as a certified nurses aide and had been a resident of Galva for the past year, moving from Butler, Missouri.

She was born June 11, 1958 in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of William H. and Zelda O. (Graham) Martin. On July 18, 1984 she married Gary Bell in Abilene and he survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Trinity (Gena) Tyler, Abilene and Travis (Lindsay) Tyler, Galva; three daughters, Tricia (Thomas) Harrold, Assaria, Stephanie (Travis) McNeely, Washington and Michelle Strong, Kansas City, Missouri; brother, John (Tina) Hatfield, Abilene; sisters, Donna (Leroy) Bryan, Logan, Illinois, Wanda (Robert) Bell, Abilene, Karen Martin, Industry and Sandy Martin, Clarksville, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Ashley Tyler, Abilene; numerous grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A son, Terry Tyler preceded her in death.

Lois Ethel Amstutz, 94, passed away at Kidron Bethel Village, North Newton, August 4, 2020. She was born in Columbiana, OH, on October 23, 1925, to Clinton and Edith (Lewis) Blosser.

Lois worked as an Elementary School Teacher at Beloit School, Beloit, OH from 1946 to 1951. She graduated from Goshen College, Goshen, IN with a Bachelor's degree of Education in 1948. In 1962, the family moved to Nigeria where she homeschooled and worked with the Ladies Guild. Upon returning from Nigeria in 1967, Lois worked as the manager at the Hesston College Bookstore and served on the Board of Directors of the Mennonite Board of Missions. From 1976 to 1979, she served with Cliff in Bolivia under the Mennonite Central Committee. Following her return from Bolivia, she served many years in the local Hesston schools. She was a member at Hesston Mennonite Church for 40 plus years. Lois was one of the founders of the Hesston Area Senior Center, where she frequently volunteered.&nbsp;

She married Clifford W. Amstutz on June 15, 1952, in Columbiana, OH. He passed away December 15, 2013. She is survived by her children; Wendell (Karen) Amstutz of El Torno, Bolivia, Crystal (Brian) Oster of Newton, Clinton Paul (Hildi) Amstutz of Asuncion, Paraguay, Neil (Janette) Amstutz of Goshen, IN, and Lynell "Nelly" (Steve) Fine of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren, Rebeca (Chris) Strong, Veronica (Cristian) Costa, Christian (Kristen) Amstutz, Andrew Sanhueza, Miriam (Rainer) Friesen, Daniel Amstutz, Matthew Amstutz, Leah Amstutz, Jesse (Norah) Amstutz, Logan Ediger, and Kristen (Zach) Schrick; great-grandchildren, Matias Strong, Marcos Strong, Luciana Costa, Oliver Costa, Sebastian Amstutz, Sullivan Amstutz, Oliver Friesen, Mark Friesen, Anouk Friesen and Ryan Schrick; one brother, Don (Carolyn) Blosser of Goshen, IN; and two sisters, Doris Witmer of Salem, OH, and Velma Blosser of Columbiana, OH.

 </figure>Lois Ethel Amstutz, 94, passed away at Kidron Bethel Village, North Newton, August 4, 2020. She was born in Columbiana, OH, on October 23, 1925, to Clinton and Edith (Lewis) Blosser.Lois worked as an Elementary School Teacher at Beloit School, Beloit, OH from 1946 to 1951. She graduated from Goshen College, Goshen, IN with a Bachelor's degree of Education in 1948. In 1962, the family moved to Nigeria where she homeschooled and worked with the Ladies Guild. Upon returning from Nigeria in 1967, Lois worked as the manager at the Hesston College Bookstore and served on the Board of Directors of the Mennonite Board of Missions. From 1976 to 1979, she served with Cliff in Bolivia under the Mennonite Central Committee. Following her return from Bolivia, she served many years in the local Hesston schools. She was a member at Hesston Mennonite Church for 40 plus years. Lois was one of the founders of the Hesston Area Senior Center, where she frequently volunteered.&nbsp;She married Clifford W. Amstutz on June 15, 1952, in Columbiana, OH. He passed away December 15, 2013. She is survived by her children; Wendell (Karen) Amstutz of El Torno, Bolivia, Crystal (Brian) Oster of Newton, Clinton Paul (Hildi) Amstutz of Asuncion, Paraguay, Neil (Janette) Amstutz of Goshen, IN, and Lynell "Nelly" (Steve) Fine of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren, Rebeca (Chris) Strong, Veronica (Cristian) Costa, Christian (Kristen) Amstutz, Andrew Sanhueza, Miriam (Rainer) Friesen, Daniel Amstutz, Matthew Amstutz, Leah Amstutz, Jesse (Norah) Amstutz, Logan Ediger, and Kristen (Zach) Schrick; great-grandchildren, Matias Strong, Marcos Strong, Luciana Costa, Oliver Costa, Sebastian Amstutz, Sullivan Amstutz, Oliver Friesen, Mark Friesen, Anouk Friesen and Ryan Schrick; one brother, Don (Carolyn) Blosser of Goshen, IN; and two sisters, Doris Witmer of Salem, OH, and Velma Blosser of Columbiana, OH.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Howard, Paul, Carl and Evan Blosser; and sister, Laura Helfrick.Cremation has taken place. Dorothy Lee Helm, 86, of Hutchinson, died August 3, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born January 16, 1934, in Turon, to Roby and Alta Marie (Patterson) Branscom.

Dorothy was a 1952 graduate of Turon High School.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, bowling, and going to the YMCA. Dorothy and her husband, Leroy, were avid travelers, even visiting various countries abroad. She was a supervisor for AT&amp;T, retiring with over thirty-five years of service. After retirement, she worked at the Kansas State Fair Administration office.&nbsp; Dorothy was a member of the Hutchinson Community College Quarterback Club, served as a board member for Bell Credit Union, and member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church. She was involved in many activities, but the greatest joy in her life was her family. Dorothy loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

On November 16, 1952, she married Leroy Walter Helm, in Turon. They shared over sixty-three years of marriage, prior to his death on June 26, 2016.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Lex Helm of Nashville, TN, Sherry Helm McManus of Lake Tahoe, NV, and Todd (Odette) Helm of Seneca, KS; grandchildren, Charity (Matt) Haga, Lexi (Chad) Dickerson, Justin (Jenny Scales) McManus, Sarah (Hadden) Hiltgen, Jesse (Ashley) Helm, and Luke Helm; great-grandchildren, Cole Haga, Riggs Haga, Piper Hiltgen, Landry Hiltgen, Griffin Hiltgen, Allie Cornelius, twins, Effie and D.J. Dickerson, and Finn McManus; sisters, Margaret Dykes and Karen Cooley; brother, Dean (Beverly) Branscom; and sister-in-law, Patsy Fors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy Helm; grandson, Carter Helm; two sisters; and three brothers.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Lerado Cemetery, Langdon, with the Reverend Ronnie Dykes officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2020, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Twila Joyce Stutzman, 44, died Sunday, August 2, 2020, at her brother’s home, in South Hutchinson. She was born July 25, 1976, in Hutchinson, to Perry Lee and Judith (Nisly) Stutzman.

Twila lived in Oklahoma City for the last 10 years, moving to Hutchinson earlier this summer. She had attended Pilgrim Christian High School and belonged to Beautiful Restorations. Twila had worked as a waitress, independent contractor as interior design, and an Uber driver, in Oklahoma City.

She is survived by her parents; brothers, Owen and wife Wanda and children, Matthias, Isaiah, Isabella and Adalina, all of South Hutchinson; Lyle and wife Maria and children, Scott, Ivanna, Megan and Levi, all of Washington, IN.

Twila was preceded in death by her sister, Julia Stutzman.

Arthur James ‘Art’ McPhillips, 56, of Hutchinson, died August 1, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born February 9, 1964, in Hutchinson, to Janice Lee Smith-McPhillips.

Art worked for Carey Salt Company in Careyville and Lyons and then as a Master Sergeant at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. He loved hunting, gambling, and old Western movies. Art was also a big advocate for the existence of Big Foot, much to his family’s amusement.

On June 11, 1988, he married Julie Castro, in Hutchinson. They shared 32 years of marriage.

Art is survived by wife, Julie McPhillips; son, Randy McPhillips; daughters, Jeanell Hopkins, and Reanna McPhillips, all of Hutchinson; sister, Edie McPhillips, Topeka, KS; brother, Thomas McPhillips, Kansas City, MO; and grandchildren, Zavia Walden, Kendrick Dean, Acelyn McPhillips, Alexander McPhillips, and Avery McPhillips, all of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Smith-McPhillips.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2020, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Steven M. Buller, 71, died July 31, 2020 at his home with family by his side. He was born July 6, 1949, the son of George and Margaret Buller. After graduating from Inman High School in 1967, he attended Barber College in Wichita, KS. In September of 1968, he joined the United States Navy. On December 27, 1972, he married Darlene Zook. Together they had two children, Jesse and Jenny. During his 24 years of service in the Navy, his shore duty assignments were in San Francisco, CA, Thurmont, MD, Holy Lock, Scotland, Cutler, ME, New Orleans, LA, and Sigonella, Sicily. His sea duty consisted of service on several ships, the USS Midway, the USS Folton, the USS America, and the USS Mt. Whitney. He also served in Vietnam from 1971 to 1972. After retiring from the Navy in 1993, he worked on the family farm.&nbsp; He then bought the Barbershop in Inman and cut hair there until 2016.&nbsp; He also was a rural route mail carrier for the Post Office in Inman. He also was the president of the Inman Area Veterans Association for many years. On October 31, 1987 he married Theresa Shaw in Norfolk, VA. She survives. Other survivors include his children and grandchildren; Jesse and Honesty Buller and Solomon Buller, Jenny and Ralph Marchione, and Alexis Marchione, all of Hutchinson; his brother Larry; as well as nephews Richard Buller and family, all of Hutchinson; David Buller and family of Independence, MO; and niece Trisha Totman and family, Taos, NM. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; brother Eugene; sister in law, Dianne; and nephew Daniel. Cremation has taken place.
