Terra Gale Brodie, 61, passed away Saturday, February 15 ,2025 at Kansas Medical Center in Andover, KS, surrounded by her family and friends. Terra was born June 30, 1963, in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Delmar and Johanna Brodie.

Terra grew up in Great Bend, Ks and graduated from Great Bend High School. In 1983, Terra married Donald Raybern, they later divorced. She worked for Jacam in Sterling, Ks for many years and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Terra is proceeded in death by her parents; and one brother-in-law, Jimmy.

She is survived by one daughter, Jana Armbruster and significant other Tyler; two sons, Jeffrey (Tiffany Riley) and Jeremy (Bobbie) Raybern; 16 grandchildren, Kyler, Kinzie, Kale, Blakelee, Brayton, Maddison, Abigail, Gage, Nicolette, Decklyn, Taylor, McKynlea, Macilynn, Maggie, Marci, Easton; and one great grandchild, Kane; one brother, Troy (Michelle) Brodie and two nephews, Blake and Aaron.

Wayne Dale McCrary, 67, died peacefully and with dignity on February 17, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, surrounded by his family, all the saints and angels, and the prayers of his extended family and friends.  He was born April 24, 1957, in Santa Cruz, CA, to William Donald and Leona Arlene (Fought) McCrary.

Wayne attended Larned High School. He retired from Krause Plow after almost 40 years of service working in their experimental shop.  Wayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting coins, metal detecting, motorcycle riding, and putting puzzles together.  He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #612.  Wayne and his wife, Elaine, volunteered with church ministries and were active with Marriage Encounters and Retrouvaille. Most of all, Wayne loved living life with love, especially with his family and friends and with an extra special place for his grandbabies.

On September 23, 1978, he married Elaine Becker, in Maize.  

Wayne is survived by:  his mother, Leona McCrary; his wife of almost 47 years, Elaine McCrary, both of Hutchinson; children, Rachel Gibson (Eric) of Hutchinson, Wendy McCrary-Lawson (David) of Kansas City, KS, Joe McCrary (Brittany) of Blue Springs, MO, and Josh McCrary (Brianna) of Weatherford, OK; brother, William “Dan” McCray (Jan); grandchildren, Isabel, Isaac, Hazel, Wyatt, Beckham, and Jayden; numerous nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by:  his father, William “Don” McCrary; and brothers, Willard “Dude” McCrary, Walter “Donny” McCrary, and Warren “Dean” McCrary.

Parish Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2025, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th Ave., Hutchinson. Harley was born on August 4, 1934, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Harvey and Jette Marie (Buss) Meier. On July 2, 1954, he married Patricia in Hutchinson, KS, to this union they were blessed with four sons, Artie, David, Mark, Daniel, and one daughter, Julie.

He was preceded death by his parents; wife, Patricia; sister, Violet Strong; brother, Elmer Meier; three sons, David Meier, Mark Meier, Daniel Meier; and one niece, Kim Martin.

Harley is survived by one son, Artie (Teri) Meier; one daughter, Julie Meier; daughter-in- law, Joanna Meier; eight grandchildren, Brandon Meier, Jason Meier, Clint Meier, Ryon Meier, Desiree Penner, Matthew Meier, Ethan Meier, Tad Meier; one sister, Joyce Bliss; brother-in-law, Chet Martin; 16 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Francine Kay Babcock, 72, of Hutchinson, KS, died peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025, with her family at her side. Kay was born April 26, 1952, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Jimmie and Alice Duft.

Kay graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1970 and then graduated from Sidney’s Hairdressing College and was a hairdresser for 45 years. She also enjoyed painting homemade crafts. Kay married Gary Babcock on July 6, 1970, in Hutchinson.

Survivors include her husband, Gary; daughter, Heather Leigh Redd (John); two grandsons, Dalton (Raven) Redd, Trenton (Grace) Babcock; great granddaughter, Eliza Redd; two brothers, Steve (Babette) Duft, Curtis Duft and a sister, Paula Duft.

Kay is preceded in death by; her parents, Jimmie and Alice Duft.

Judith Marie “Judy” Gonzales, 79, of Hutchinson, died February 15, 2025, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born March 9, 1945, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Everett Lee and Lyla Marie (Pitts) McCoy.

Judy graduated from Partridge High School and Salt City Business College. She was a homemaker. Judy was a member of South Hutchinson Christian Church.

She is survived by: her sons, Robert Gonzales and wife Janet of Hutchinson, Jeff Gonzales and wife Gina of Hutchinson, Sean Gonzales and wife Kelly of McPherson; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Lynette Woods and husband Russ of Manhattan, Kansas; brothers, Tom McCoy and wife Brenda of Hutchinson, Michael McCoy and wife Kathy of Washington, Kansas; and many extended family members.

Judy was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Jason Gonzales; sister, Marilyn Morris; brothers, Ted McCoy and Robert McCoy.

Frederick Lee “Fred” Barta, 94, of Little River, Kansas, passed away on February 15, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family.

Fred was born in rural Ellsworth, Kansas on February 3, 1931, the son of the late Helen Libby (Doubrava) and Ferdinand “Fred” Barta.

Fred graduated from Little River High School with the class of 1950. He was a lifetime Little River resident.

Fred proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1961 and achieved the rank of Corporal. He served in the Korean war and his dedication to serving his country was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Fred worked as a farmer and rancher his entire life.

Fred was united in marriage to Patricia Louise “Pat” Barta (Fail) on May 3, 1952. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage until her passing on April 20, 2020.

Fred was a member of the Congregational Church, Little River, where he also served as a member of the men’s fellowship. Fred also spent many years serving his community through various organizations, including, the Lion’s Club, American Legion, 4-H, FFA, ULAR Watershed District, Rice County Soil Conservation District, the Goodfellow Organization, MTC Board and the USD 444 School Board. Among many other accomplishments, Fred was most proud of his Outstanding Young Farmer of the year award in 1963 and Little River Citizen of the Year award in 1981.

Fred enjoyed playing and watching baseball throughout his entire life. He rarely missed any local Little River Redskins events. Fred was quite the card shark and spent many hours with dear friends.

Fred is survived by his four children, Carla Shepherd of Hutchinson, Kyle Barta (Lori) of Little River, Ryan Barta (Jamie) of Little River and Emma Shepherd of Hutchinson; a son-in-law, John Shepherd; three grandchildren, Christopher Barta, Michael Barta (Tessa) and Megan Kane (Jake); and seven great-grandchildren, Mackinze, Steele, Elliot, Morgan, Bryleigh, Juli and Zayna. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Elrene Stowe, Thelma Sporn and Marianne Gawith.

A visitation will be held Friday, February 21, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Congregational Church, Little River, with Pastor Ted Weis officiating. Burial will follow at Bean Memorial Cemetery, with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.

Charles “Chuck” Arthur Garrett, 49 years of age, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Swedish Medical Center, Englewood, Colorado. Charles was born on October 28, 1975, in Hutchinson, Kansas to Carl E. Flenoid-Brown and Norma R. Garrett- Butler.

He had an adventurous soul that led him to explore countless hobbies and experiences. Whether it was riding motorcycles, casting a line into his favorite fishing spot, or working on classic cars, he approached every pursuit with passion and a deep sense of joy. He also enjoyed having gatherings which included hosting his notorious barbeques for his family and friends. Charles had a love for animals, which reflected in the wide variety of creatures he called his pets over the years. From the snakes he so proudly cared for to his loyal pit bulls and even a fawn. Charles was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his six children, Darian Garrett of Missouri, Jasmine Garrett of Alaska, Laticia Garrett, Dylan Garrett, Deon Garrett, and Davon Garrett; seven siblings, Kevin Jackson, Carlita Flenoid, David O’Neal, Cheriquita Flenoid, Sofia O’Neal, Antonio O’Neal, Carlos O’ Neal, Elizabeth “Bebop” (Tristan) Douglas of Florida, and Chanah (Ryan) O’Neal-Johnson; and two grandchildren, Dekaylin Garrett and Legend Garrett. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and one great nephew. Chuck will be missed by many.

Elmer “Van” Wilkey, 78, of Hutchinson, Kansas. passed away February 13, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. 

He was born April 7, 1946, in Sterling, Kansas, the son of Steven James and Mildred Vogel Wilkey. 

Van married the love of his life, Mary Sue on January 22, 1966, in Cherokee, Kansas. They had two children, Stephanie and Scott. 

Van was called to serve in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1968 until 1969. Van enjoyed farming and ranching with his dad, he was involved with livestock most of his life in one way or another. 

He enjoyed racing cars, rodeos, roping and spending time going on road trips with Mary Sue and the numerous dogs over the years. Van also enjoyed watching the grandkids sporting events. 

Van is survived by his two children, Stephanie Kofford and husband Michael of Rock Springs, WY, and Scott Wilkey and wife Tiffany of Sterling, KS; three sisters, Vicki Daise and husband Ron of Osborne, KS, Judy McDowell of Monroe, WA; and Jo McQuinston of Emporia, KS; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Mary Sue Wilkey. 

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with Pastor Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling, with military honors. 

Memorials may be given to Missions Revival or Hospice of Reno County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.

He enjoyed racing cars, rodeos, roping and spending time going on road trips with Mary Sue and the numerous dogs over the years. Van also enjoyed watching the grandkids sporting events. Van is survived by his two children, Stephanie Kofford and husband Michael of Rock Springs, WY, and Scott Wilkey and wife Tiffany of Sterling, KS; three sisters, Vicki Daise and husband Ron of Osborne, KS, Judy McDowell of Monroe, WA; and Jo McQuinston of Emporia, KS; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Mary Sue Wilkey. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with Pastor Wayne Johnson officiating. Mary graduated from Solomon High School in 1964. She worked in retail management for many years. Mary was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of New Cambria.&nbsp;

She held top secret clearance in the aircraft and defense industry and broke glass ceilings with ease and hard work. After retirement in 2003, Linda moved to Kansas and worked at the Bath and Body Works, Highlands Golf Course, and H and R Block. She enjoyed the company of her beloved family, friends, and dogs, Tawny and Rosie.&nbsp;

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Albert Cruz Garcia, who left us peacefully on February 11, 2025, at the age of 80. A cherished husband, father, papa and friend to all, Albert will forever be remembered for his boundless love, unwavering support, kind spirit, and the way he could always make us laugh.

Born on May 3, 1944, in Hutchinson, KS, to Leandro and Fernanda Garcia, Albert learned the value of family from a young age and the importance of standing by those he loved. Through his unwavering support, he helped guide his siblings, ensuring they had the encouragement and direction needed to succeed in life.

Despite the challenges he faced, he never wavered in his commitment to his family. He became a pillar of strength, offering both emotional and practical support whenever it was needed. His sacrifices and selflessness were evident in the way he prioritized the well-being of his loved ones above his own needs. As he grew older, his devotion extended even further, as he took care of his mother in her final days, providing her with love, comfort, and unwavering care.

Albert met the love of his life, Jeanne, when he was just 15 years old. It was love at first sight as he played the bongo drum at a Record Hop. They married on November 8, 1963, in Medford, Oklahoma, beginning a beautiful journey together. Their love was the foundation of a family built on strong values, laughter, and steadfast support that lasted 61 years.

Above all, Albert was a devoted father to Kimberly, Joni, and Jennifer. His daughters were his pride and joy, and he never missed an opportunity to brag about them—right up until his last breath. He spent countless hours at the softball fields, coaching each of his daughters' teams with tireless dedication. There was nothing he couldn’t fix—whether it was a leaky faucet, a broken boat part, a dance recital costume, or even a daughter’s broken heart.

Albert was not only a devoted husband, father, and papa but also a spiritual leader who led by example. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he instilled strong values in his family, including a deep work ethic and the importance of higher education. This dedication was evident in his 44-year career at Dillon’s Bakery, where he worked tirelessly and earned the respect of his colleagues due to his leadership and commitment. He eventually retired in 2008 as Bakery Manager. Albert took great pride in his work, but his greatest joy was providing for his family and ensuring they had every opportunity to succeed.

In retirement, he found joy in spending time at his lake house, where he made cherished memories boating with his grandkids, fishing, and playing cards during family gatherings. His infectious laugh, quick wit, warm heart, and words of wisdom touched everyone around him. While his presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Albert is survived by his loving daughters, Kimberly (Tim) Kerwood, Joni Appleman (former son-in-law, Dave Appleman), and Jennifer (Jason) Nestelroad. He was a proud papa to Austin Perrone, Alec Perrone, Adam Perrone, Jaden Kerwood, Roman (Krista) Wilkinson, Jacob Appleman, Jenna Appleman, Jackson (Emily) Nestelroad, and Aidan Nestelroad, and he eagerly anticipated the arrival of his future great-granddaughter, Chloe Nestelroad.

He is also survived by his brothers, Daniel (Linda) Garcia, David Garcia, Rudy Sr. (Wanda) Garcia, Robert (Polly) Garcia, and Rudy Jr. Garcia; his sisters, Lucy (Clifford) Hood and Margaret Wells; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Larry Dean Girard, 84, formerly of Beloit, died February 12, 2025, at Legend of Hutchinson, with his family by his side. &nbsp;He was born January 13, 1941, in Clyde, KS, to Eugene and Laura (Couture) Girard.

Larry graduated from Clyde High School in 1959. &nbsp;He attended Kansas University for one year on a football scholarship, before transferring to Kansas State University. &nbsp;Larry received his bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University. &nbsp;For over 40 years he worked in education, impacting thousands of students. &nbsp;Larry taught elementary and middle school students in Jewell and Lacrosse. &nbsp;While teaching in Lacrosse, he received his master’s degree from Fort Hays State University, and served as the elementary principal for the Clyde, Jewell and Bird City School Districts.

Larry, known to his family and friends as a jokester, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He cherished his five grandchildren. &nbsp;Larry could often be found in the stands cheering on his two granddaughters, keeping their volleyball and basketball stats, or playing with his three grandsons when they were growing up. &nbsp;He was a member of Inspire Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

On May 28, 1965, Larry eloped to Enid, OK with his bride and best friend, Ann Lundstrom.&nbsp;

Larry is survived by: &nbsp;his wife of almost 60 years, Ann Girard; daughter, Jill Posch (Danny), all of Hutchinson; brother, Bernard Girard of Manhattan; and grandchildren, Aaron Girard, Matthew Girard, Zachary Girard, Gabrielle Posch, and Grace Posch.&nbsp;

Lemuel Calvin Thompson, 59, passed away February 7, 2025, at his home in Wichita. He was born February 28, 1965, in Hutchinson to Johnny Carr and Stanley Thompson Murdock.

He graduated from Lawrence Gardner High School in Topeka. &nbsp;Lemuel was a kind and private man who was loved by all who met him. &nbsp;He would keep you laughing with all of his funny sayings. &nbsp;His struggle is now over. He will be missed by many people especially his family. &nbsp;Lemuel enjoyed playing the piano, singing and playing with his nieces and nephews. He attended True Word Church.

Lemuel is survived by his: mother, Stanley Murdock; brothers, Gregory, Atrell “Tuck”, Samuel and Dustin Thompson, John Metcalfe, and Terry Brown; sisters, Jackie Carr Benjamin and Velva Hayes; 57 nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and friends; and special friends, Pat and Heather.

He was born February 28, 1965, in Hutchinson to Johnny Carr and Stanley Thompson Murdock.He graduated from Lawrence Gardner High School in Topeka. &nbsp;Lemuel was a kind and private man who was loved by all who met him. &nbsp;He would keep you laughing with all of his funny sayings. &nbsp;His struggle is now over. He will be missed by many people especially his family. &nbsp;Lemuel enjoyed playing the piano, singing and playing with his nieces and nephews. Nancy J. Porter, 71, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025, at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater, KS. She was born April 23, 1953, in Denver, Colorado to Wilford L. and Donna M. (Wyer) Nusser Sr.

Nancy graduated from Robert E. Peary High School, Rockville, MD in 1971. She later attended Hutchinson Community College where she received her Associates of Arts degree. She was a bus driver for School Service and Leasing for six years.

In Nancy’s free time, she enjoyed writing her own books and reading. In 1996, she got the opportunity to drive a bus for the Olympics in Atlanta, GA, where she shuttled the Olympic contenders to and from events. On December 28, 1974, Nancy married Bruce E. Porter in Gaithersburg, MD. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Hutchinson.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Bruce; and three sisters, Dianna Miller, Elaina Nusser and Marilynn Quidachay.

She is survived by her two daughters, Amanda (Adrian) Caldwell and Leona (Jason) Duerksen; and four grandchildren, Coyote Caldwell, Phoenix Caldwell, River Duerksen, and Lyra Duerksen.

Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, KS. A graveside service will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Wheat State Manor or Good Shepherd Hospice and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502.

Terry Duane Moore, 76, of Arlington, died February 9, 2025, at his farm. &nbsp;Terry was born October 26, 1948, in Hutchinson, to Clinton and Wanda (Brown) Moore.&nbsp;

Terry graduated from Nickerson High School in 1967 and served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1970, and later with the Kingman National Guard. Terry loved being a farmer and rancher and dedicated his life to this work. &nbsp;He enjoyed deer hunting, riding horses, and raising cattle. &nbsp;He was a member of Bob Campbell VFW Post 1361.

On February 3, 1973, he married Karleen Lies, at Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson.

Terry is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Karleen Moore of Arlington; children, Tricia Loehr of Haven, Amy Crockett (Nick) of South Hutchinson, and Travis Moore (Heidi) of Cheney; brothers, Ronald Moore (Lee Anne) of TX and Galen Moore (Kathy) of Nickerson; grandchildren, Emma Gentry (Derek), Ava Moore, Hanna Crockett, Lance Loehr, Wade Loehr, and Addison Crockett; as well as several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Sondra K. Gibson, 83, died February 8, 2025, at Waldron Place Senior Living, Hutchinson. She was born August 6, 1941, in Anthony, Kansas, to Lawrence and Eleanor (Underwood) Jones.

Sondra graduated from Hazelton High School, Hazelton, Kansas. She worked in interior design for Glass Construction Company Supply, Hutchinson. Later on, Sondra went to be a salesperson for beauty supplies for Peel’s Salon Services, Hutchinson and for State Beauty Supply, Wichita.

&nbsp;In her spare time, Sondra enjoyed scrapbooking, painting, gardening, tackling home projects, cheering on dirt track racing, KU, and the KC Chiefs.&nbsp;

In 1960, she married Gary Gibson, together they had a son, Bradly Gibson. They loved traveling all over for car shows where they entered their classic cars. They later divorced and she spent the remained of her life with partner to Dean Bontrager. He showed her and the “Gibson Girls”, Lawren and Morgan the life of dirt track racing and the live of his 4 sons the “Bontrager boys”, Eric, Stuart, Scott, and Johnny.

Sondra is survived by: her granddaughters, Lawren (Brian) Hinson and Morgan Gibson; great-granddaughter, Makinzie Hinson; brother, Larry Bob (Myrna) Jones; nephew, Trent (Jan) Jones; great- nieces, Ella and Jenna Jones; and the Bontrager Family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Bradly Gibson; aunt and uncle, Jackie and Bill Powell; and life-long partner, Dean Bontrager.

Winnie graduated from Bemidji (MN) High School and earned her Bachelor of Teaching from Bemidji State Teachers College. &nbsp;She taught junior high math and science.On March 1, 1947, she married Wayne F rank Rom. They had three daughters- Gloria, Valerie and Julie. &nbsp;She later married Darrel Wayne Thompson. &nbsp;He passed December 4, 2019.Winnie loved to travel and to read biographies. &nbsp;After moving to Arizona, she loved hiking the desert with friends and playing Scrabble and cards. &nbsp;Her baking skills were admired. &nbsp;Her hot buns were famous.

Winnie is survived by: her: daughters, Gloria (Bobhusband) Rom of Los Angeles, Val (Doug) Rom-Hawkins and Julie (Ron) Rom Rom-Kocienski of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Austin Justin and Marta Johnson; step-sons, Roger, Bruce and Siyd; and step-grandchildren, Alanna, Tim, and Dale.

Pastor Onie Lee Cooper was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 6, 2025. She was 94. &nbsp;Onie was born November 27, 1930, in Hutchinson, Kansas to Abraham “Toby” and Leona (Hofer) Entz.&nbsp;

Onie lived her whole life in Hutchinson. She married Harold Cooper and together they raised Michael, Preston “Pat” and Kathleen “Kathy”. &nbsp;

Onie worked at the Christian Supply Store, which helped feed her love of reading about all things Jesus. Her collection of books is enormous! Onie accepted the Lord as her savior as a small child and followed Him her whole life. She served Him in children’s ministry through the Good News Clubs and in church. As an adult, Onie served the Lord by becoming a pastor and leading the Community Church of God here in Hutchinson. Not only did she serve in church, she served within the community. For many years, Onie volunteered at the Hutchinson Cosmosphere and was able to share her love for science and space exploration. She was also a Chaplain at Hutchinson Hospital and able to share her love of Jesus with the sick and their families. Onie then felt a call to counsel and marry inmates at the Hutchinson Reformatory. She led many to find the Lord and married more than 80 inmates.&nbsp;

Onie was preceded in death by: her husband, Harold; her parents; sister, Donnas; brother, Jim; and her daughter, Kathy.&nbsp;

She leaves behind Mike (Carolyn) from Saint Joseph, Missouri, Pat (Vickie) from Hutchinson; son-in-law, Daryl Miller of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Stu Entz (Eleanor) and Lin Entz (Pat).

Onie blessed many with her gifts of music, playing the piano, accordion, organ and violin. &nbsp;She always enjoyed a good game of dominoes with family and friends. Onie belonged to an accordion ensemble, the local quilting guild and Young at Hearts. She stayed busy and touched many lives. Onie certainly will be missed by her family and friends.&nbsp;

Pastor Onie L. Cooper | 1930 - 2025 | Obituary

Norman Bruce Crum, 83, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler, KS. He was born September 8, 1941, in Holly, Colorado to William “Bill” Crum and Helen Jewell Blackwill.

&nbsp;Bruce married Roberta Rhodes on September 9, 1959. They were married 65 years before Roberta passed away on November 22, 2024. In his early years, Bruce traveled with his Uncle Elmo building Co-op metal buildings in Oklahoma and Kansas. Bruce also worked at Farmland and WIFCO for many years in the maintenance department. He was a great mechanic and all around handyman. If it was broken, Bruce would always find a way to fix it or repurpose it in another project. He loved to attend auctions and would never pass up a good garage sale. He was an avid gardener, and his wine was enjoyed by many family members.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Roberta, son Norman Crum, daughter Julia Moll, his parents, Bill and Helen, and brothers, Junior and Vernon.

He is survived by his son Larry Crum of Holly, CO, sister in law Cathy Bailey of Palmer, TX, as well as 10 grandchildren and their spouses: CB Crum, Jason Gulley, Jarmey Gulley, Jarid Gulley, Aaron Crum, Kathleen Crum, Richie Crum, Holly Crum, Kevin Moll, and Corey Moll; 18 great-grandchildren: Amber, Kaylee, Bradon, Athena, Nicholas, Audrey, Harley, Megan, Lealand, Rosey, Remington, Marissa, Marks, Nolan, Trinity, Cambrie, Callie, and Cayden; one great-great grandchild, Kannon, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends. He will be missed by many.

The family extends great appreciation to Bonnie “Soupy” Sue Bribiesca, his loving niece for all the loving care she has provided over the years and to the staff and fellow residents at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community.

If it was broken, Bruce would always find a way to fix it or repurpose it in another project. He loved to attend auctions and would never pass up a good garage sale. He was an avid gardener, and his wine was enjoyed by many family members.Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Roberta, son Norman Crum, daughter Julia Moll, his parents, Bill and Helen, and brothers, Junior and Vernon.He is survived by his son Larry Crum of Holly, CO, sister in law Cathy Bailey of Palmer, TX, as well as 10 grandchildren and their spouses: CB Crum, Jason Gulley, Jarmey Gulley, Jarid Gulley, Aaron Crum, Kathleen Crum, Richie Crum, Holly Crum, Kevin Moll, and Corey Moll; 18 great-grandchildren: Amber, Kaylee, Bradon, Athena, Nicholas, Audrey, Harley, Megan, Lealand, Rosey, Remington, Marissa, Marks, Nolan, Trinity, Cambrie, Callie, and Cayden; one great-great grandchild, Kannon, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends. He will be missed by many.The family extends great appreciation to Bonnie “Soupy” Sue Bribiesca, his loving niece for all the loving care she has provided over the years and to the staff and fellow residents at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community.

Freddie Gene “Jean” Bohnstedt, 97, passed peacefully on February 2, 2025, surrounded by her family in Hutchinson. Jean was born on June 8, 1927, in Shawnee, OK, to Archie Elmer and Florence Ann (Padgett) Cole.

In 1947, Jean married William H Kendall. They were blessed with two sons, William H. Kendall II and Randall L. Kendall. In 1968, she married Charles E. Bohnstedt. They were married 38 years before his passing in 2006. Jean had a passion for genealogy, spending many hours researching and documenting family history. She loved sharing stories about ancestors and connecting with relatives near and far. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). In her earlier years, she owned and operated three drive-in restaurants in the Junction City and Manhattan, KS, areas.

Jean is survived by her two sons; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Jean will be remembered for her warm smile, dignified grace, love of family and kind demeanor. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Ronald Herbert McBride, 68, passed away on January 27, 2025, in Hutchinson, KS. He was born on November 27,1956, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Herbert and Ione (Bartlett) McBride.

Ron graduated from Nickerson High School in 1975. He worked for Sonoco Hutchinson Paper Mill for over 45 years and retired in 2023. Ron was part of the Union Paper Makers #1350 and the Steel Makers # 1350 Union. He was a member of the Hutchinson Water Sports Club.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Linda Powell and a grandson, Zacheriah Anderson.

He is survived by his daughters, Tiffanie (Duncan) Duncan and Renea (Doug) Anderson; a son, James (Hannah Hildreth) McBride; sisters, Debra McBride-Brown, Jacque (Randy) Halloway; seven grandchildren, Zane Clune, Avery Kellogg, Nova Laughlin, Lucas, Jacob, Tobias, and Matthew Anderson; and one great grandchild, Hayden Kellogg.

James Lee Hearn passed peacefully in his sleep on January 22, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society Hutchinson Village. Born March 3, 1959 in Kingman, Kansas. He was a son, brother, father, and a veteran. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic. He also worked as a tree arborist with his father and then like his father a truck driver. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Lee Hearn and his mother, Wilhelmina (Willie) Hearn of Great Bend. James leaves behind a son, Jaime Lee Hearn of Coalinga, California; his brother John Edward Hearn (Cindy) of El Dorado, Kansas; his sister Jeanette Marie Bowen (Tommy) of Ridgeway South, Carolina; and his sister Judith Anne Schick (Rob) of Lebo, Kansas; as well as several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews.

James will always be remembered as one who loved to work with his hands, do word searches, play games, pull pranks on others. and bring joy to those around him. His generous and caring nature will not be forgotten. May he rest in peace, experience the forgiveness and love that are awaiting him in the Savior’s arms. 

A memorial service will be held February 13, 2025 at 1:00PM at Old Mission Heritage.

Deanna D (Schell) Meyer, 85, died of natural causes on January 15, 2025. She was born December 18, 1939 in Marysville, KS. She began her childhood in Marysville, then moved to many small towns in Oklahoma since her stepfather was a salesman. They eventually settled in Wichita, KS where she attended All Saints Grade School and graduated in 1957 from St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Dee was married to Jim Meyer at age 21 and had two children, Kevin and Kelley. When they divorced, she married Bill Mason and the family moved to Buhler, KS. She eventually became a member of the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church and continued to reside in Buhler until she joined Jesus in Heaven.

Dee was quite diversified in her workplace skills. She did data entry at Southwestern Bell telephone company, Wesley Hospital, Boeing Computer Services and Wichita State University, retouched photos for Friesen Photography, worked for American Cab Company, drove the St. Francis Mobile Mammogram Van, and represented the SWEP program at American Red Cross. She also owned a day care, sold real estate and opened her own floral business called “Dee’s Designs.”

In Wichita, she was a 30-year member of the Sigma Phi Gamma philanthropic sorority. Locally, she volunteered at Central Christian School, Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, and Grand Staff Thrift Boutique.

Dee loved being with her family. Some of her greatest joys included spending time with her grandchildren, Layne and Kaitlyn. Being able to live long enough to love on her great-grandchildren was a dream come true for her. She also valued time spent with her parents, children, brothers, sisters-in-law, aunts, nieces, nephew, and cousins.

Her interests included decorating, jewelry making, flower arranging, picture framing, candle making, landscaping, and roaming the country collecting rocks and weeds. She was always in search of a garage sale, flea market, estate sale, or thrift store. Her mission in life was not only to pick up bargains for herself, but for others as well - this was her act of service and love language. It truly made her heart happy to share these secondhand gifts and it silently said, “I was thinking of you.”

Dee is survived by: son Kevin Meyer with wife Teresa of Shawnee, KS; daughter Kelley Pankratz with husband Lee of Hutchinson, KS; grandson Layne Pankratz with wife Rachael and great-grandson Finnan of Plevna, KS; granddaughter Kaitlyn Roth with husband Colton and great-granddaughter Eliza of Sterling, KS; brother Dennis Schell and fiancé Pam Carpenter of Marysville, KS; brother (Butch) John Schell and wife Caryl of Centralia, KS; and brother Jan Schell of Marysville, KS.

She was preceded in death by: father John J. Schell; mother Helen (Koch) Borchardt; stepfather Robert O. Borchardt; sister-in-law Wilma (Gerdes) Schell; stepbrother Bobby Borchardt; twin nieces Leslie and Laurie Schell; and nephew Jon Schell.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church, 415 N. West St., Buhler, KS.
