
Ronald Walter Tremaine, 82, of Sterling, Kansas, peacefully finished his race on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Ron was born on March 9, 1943 in Denver, Colorado. He was the oldest of Harold and Mary Tremaine’s five children. Ron graduated from Englewood High School in 1961 and attended York College in York, Nebraska, where he met his wife, Melva. They were married on August 26, 1962, and enjoyed just shy of 62 years together, before Melva’s passing in July of 2024.
Ron spent most of his professional career as an accountant, working for Phillips Petroleum Company and Northwestern Public Service. However, his most fulfilling work was serving as the first Executive Director for Colorado Christian Services (Englewood, Colorado) and then as the first superintendent for Cornhusker Christian Children’s Home (Culbertson, Nebraska).
He enjoyed working in his home office keeping his own “books,” spending time with his family, playing cribbage and engaging in Bible study. Ron was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, most recently worshipping with the Sterling Church of Christ.
Ron is survived by three sisters, Susie Watkins and her husband Richard (Littleton, CO), Diane Swartz and her husband Ralph (Littleton, CO) and Lori Tremaine and her husband Dan Baird (Cortez, CO) and his brother-in-law Jerry Watley; son Mark Tremaine and his wife Bonnie (Nickerson, KS); son Eric Tremaine and his wife Jenny (York, NE); daughter Kari Savage and her husband Dave (Webb City, MO); foster daughter Betty Reitz and her husband Bob (Trenton, MO); fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Melva, his daughter Julie, and his sister Kathy McGhee and brother-in-law John McGhee.
Services for Ron will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Prayer Chapel on the campus of York University, York, Nebraska. Hutchinson Funeral Chapel is overseeing the arrangements.
