&nbsp;Twila Marie Bishop, 90, of McPherson, passed away at 6:25 p.m., Sunday, August 22nd, 2021 peacefully Cedars House. Twila was born in Ruleton, on August 1, 1931, a daughter of Rufas and Louise (Baker) Stephens. Through the years Twila attended Union School in Kanarado,&nbsp; and graduated from Goodland High School, Goodland,&nbsp; in 1949. She attended Goodland Bible Church, Calvary Gospel Church, Goodland,&nbsp; and New Hope Evangelical Church in McPherson. Twila was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked for White Machine and Motor from 1945-1948, Boothroy Memorial 1948-1960, Goodland Savings and Loan 1960-1975, she also worked various odd jobs throughout her life. Twila enjoyed baking and sewing, she loved her children and grandkids, and great-grandkids. Twila Marie Stephens was united in marrige to William Ernest Bishop on December 20, 1951 at The Gospel Hall, Goodland, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Goodland. They then moved to McPherson in 2007 to be closer to the kids. Bill died on January 1, 2020. She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Moors and her husband Winston, of McPherson, and Debbie McIntyre and her husband Brian, of Waukesha, Wisconsin; her siblings, Maxine Klein, of San Antonio, Texas and Irma Silkman, of Burlington, Colorado; her grandchildren, Cody Moors (Jessica), Lindsey Vincent (Shiloh), Brock Moors (Amanda), Joshua McIntyre, Jamie Cote' (Michael), Tommy McIntyre and Jessica McIntyre and her 7 great-grandchildren. She was born in Wichita, on May 20, 1932, to Florence ( Blubaugh) and Everett Owens and raised on the farm north of Mount Hope, Kansas.&nbsp; She graduated from Mount Hope High School and also Fort Hays State University, where she received degrees with a major in home economics and teaching.

On a hot day of July 10, 1955, she married Olin Ted Foraker, Jr. at Bethany Baptist Church in rural Sedgwick.&nbsp; She was a resident of Waverly, Lakin, Almena, Sylvan Grove and Kinsley and resided in Hutchinson since 1978.&nbsp; She taught school in her early years and supported her husband in his school positions as a business teacher in Lakin and Superintendent of schools in Almena, Sylvan Grove and Kinsley.&nbsp; While residing in Hutchinson she worked for Sears photography studio.

Charmaine is preceded in death by her husband, Olin 'Ted' Foraker in 2007; daughter, Avone Marie Arnold; and parents, Florence and Everett Owens.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by sister Gaylene ( Ollie) Isom; and brother Charles ( Joann) Owens.&nbsp;

She is survived by her son, Kreg Foraker of rural Burrton; son, Harlan Foraker and wife Karen of rural Burrton; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Harold Richard “Bud” Stalcup, 94, of Hutchinson, died August 20, 2021, at Waldron Place. He was born September 11, 1926, in Burrton, to Joseph Harold and Lela (Jones) Stalcup.

Bud attended Burrton High School and graduated from Haven High School in 1944. He served for a year in the United States Army in 1945. Bud was a farmer and also did home construction in his early years. He served on the board for Reno County Drainage District No. 2 and Farmer’s Cooperative Elevator in Mount Hope. Bud was also a member of the Haven Lion’s Club and he and Faye were honored as the Reno County Farm Focus Family in 1990. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Burrton.

On April 4, 1947, Bud married Faye Scantlin, at Pleasant Grove Church. They shared 74 years of marriage together on their farm, which they lived on until January 2021.

He is survived by: wife, Faye Stalcup, Hutchinson; daughter, Kathy Geffert (Lynn), Haven; sons, Roger Stalcup, Lawrence, Kevin Stalcup, Chandler, Arizona; grandchildren, Kyle Geffert (Megan), Haven, Keri English (Jared), Grain Valley, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Kyler and Kayden Geffert, Haven, Ainsley and Oliver English, Grain Valley, Missouri; sisters, Ruth Schmucker, Buhler, Carol Winkley, Hutchinson, Jane Koontz, Hutchinson.

Cesar’s life began on January 8, 2004, the son of Cesar Octavio Meda and Abigail (Ramirez Martinez) Lopez-Ramirez in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was a senior at Remington High School and was attending school in Newton to be a welder. He enjoyed playing football in his early years, welding school, and hoped to work with his father someday.

Annie “Blanche” Lepping, our beloved mother, 79, of Hutchinson, went home to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 21, 2021. She was born April 20, 1942, in Fort Pillow, TN, the daughter of the late Wylie David and Annie Laura Parker Messer. She was one of three sets of twins. She enjoyed and loved her family dearly, playing Yahtzee, Rummy, Dominoes, Sorry, riding roller coasters, traveling and water gun fights with her brother Sterling. Our mom was an Amazing woman, who had the ability to make you feel Loved and Welcomed regardless of who you were. An inspiration to all who knew her, always quick to encourage whether it be a smile, compliment, hug, prayer, a scripture, or a card to let you know you were being thought of. She truly did the small things with Great Love, bringing out the best in everyone she met!

Blanche married William Carroll Lepping on July 14, 1976, in Ripley, TN. Together they founded and pastored the Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Abilene, KS, on August 8, 1987 where they served for 18 wonderful years sharing the Love of God to those in need, prior to his passing on December 26, 2009.

Blanche was a daycare provider in her home for 12 years and a member of the Faith Free Will Baptist Church, Salina, KS. She had lived in Salina since 1975, but due to Parkinson’s, she moved to Hutchinson in 2012 to live with her daughter Lisa and son in law Daryl Fouard.

Survivors include, sons: Marvin (Desiree) Lepping, Shane (Kristen) Lepping, Darrin Hassler, all of Salina, KS, and Craig (Valerie) Bridgewater of Shawnee, OK; daughters: Sharon (Wes) Wernecke, Diane (Ron) Wilcome and Tryma Crist, all of Salina, KS, Mary Schmitt of Bentonville, AR, Lisa (Daryl) Fouard of Hutchinson, KS, Teresa Born of Wichita, KS and Linda (Monte) Waller of Clarksville, TN; daughter in law: Nancy Lepping of Salina, KS; siblings: twin brother, Larry Messer of Eufaula, OK, and Jimmy Messer of Mumford, TN; 45 grandchildren; and 68 great grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Sheldon Hayden, Pratt, KS; brother, Rusty A. Cammarn, St. John, KS; mother, Velda (Steve) Young, St. John, KS; and a grandson, Gavin Hayden.

James Patrick “Jim” Hudson, 64, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away August 19, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. 

He was born October 13, 1956, in El Dorado, Kansas, the son of William and Linnereau Cook Hudson. Jim graduated from Salina High School, with the class of 1974. He has resided in Sterling since July 23, 1999, formerly Salina, Kansas. Jim was truck driver for various companies for over forty years, having most recently drove for Saia LTL Freight in Wichita for twelve years and Walmart Trucking in Ottawa, for the past year. He enjoyed electronics; collecting small toy trucks; listening to music on his old stereo; and loved spending time with his family. 

On July 21, 1997, Jim was united in marriage with Marsha Lee Kruse in Salina, Kansas. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Christy Jones and husband Shannon of Sterling; and three grandchildren, Trae, Trent, and Trevan Jones. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. 

Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Sterling Community Cemetery. The family ask memorials be given to Marsha Hudson (to help offset expenses) in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.

James Patrick “Jim” Hudson, 64, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away August 19, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Jim was truck driver for various companies for over forty years, having most recently drove for Saia LTL Freight in Wichita for twelve years and Walmart Trucking in Ottawa, for the past year. He enjoyed electronics; collecting small toy trucks; listening to music on his old stereo; and loved spending time with his family. On July 21, 1997, Jim was united in marriage with Marsha Lee Kruse in Salina, Kansas. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Christy Jones and husband Shannon of Sterling; and three grandchildren, Trae, Trent, and Trevan Jones. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Melvin Nisly, 93, died August 20, 2021, at his home. He was born January 29, 1928, on the family farm, rural Hutchinson, to Samuel A. and Delilah (Beiler) Nisly.

Melvin was a farmer and stockman and worked in the family butcher shop.  He enjoyed fishing, working in the woodshop, and making miniature furniture.  Melvin’s greatest enjoyment, though, was farming and his grandchildren. 

On October 23, 1949, he married Fannie Yoder, in Hutchinson.  She died September 2018, after sharing almost 69 years of marriage.

Melvin is survived by:  children, Judith Stutzman (Perry) of Hutchinson, Joyce Bontrager (Steve) of Kokomo, IN, Cynthia Miller (Dale) of Plain City, OH, Titus Nisly (Marijane) of Hutchinson, and Janelle Nisly of Evansville, IN; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ellen Nisly of Hutchinson; and three brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; three brothers; five sisters; and two granddaughters.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2021, at Center Amish Mennonite Church, 7611 West Morgan Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastors Dwight Miller and David Yoder officiating. Charlene Francis Guillot passed away peacefully, into her Savior’s loving arms on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at the age of 86. Mrs. Guillot was born on February 25, 1935 the daughter of Charles and Juanita Kay (Morris) Brown. She grew up in Herington, Kansas and married Jesse John Guillot on February 27, 1952 in Abilene, Kansas. They were married for 62 years.

Charlene was devoted to her children, grandchildren and family. She was a homemaker and was later employed by Tony’s Pizza Service until her retirement in 1999. She enjoyed family gatherings and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was famous in the circle of family and friends for her peach cobbler and sweet potato pies. She also loved her collection of ceramic birds and people watching.

She was preceded in death by her 25 month daughter Kathy in 1953, her parents and her husband, Jesse in 2014. Ben J. Wiens of Parkside Homes in Hillsboro, Kansas died on August 19, 2021, at the age of 102. He is survived by his daughter Sandra of Guilford, Connecticut and her husband Robert Harms, and by his sister Luella Stauffer of Mountain Lake, Minnesota. He was a lifelong educator, having taught at Tabor College, Rutgers University, Moravian College, and Penn State University, and he was active in various church and service projects during his retirement in Hillsboro.

Born in Hillsboro, Kansas, on February 28, 1919, while his father was attending Tabor College, he grew up on a dairy farm in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. His earliest memories were seeing his father taking the horse and buggy to the rural school where he was teaching. His mother took care of the dairy farm and chickens during the day. His duties at home included milking the cows and delivering milk to some twenty-five customers. He was baptized at the age of 12 and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church in Mountain Lake, embarking on a lifelong commitment to scripture and Christlike living. He attended German school for the first five grades and then was transferred to the public schools, graduating from high school in 1938.

After high school graduation, he went to Mankato State Teachers College in Manketo, Minnesota for a two-year teaching certificate. This qualified him for a rural school position, which he taught for two years. He married Mary Wall of Mountain Lake, Minnesota in 1942. Their daughter Sandra was born in 1951. After marriage, he returned to Mankato State University to finish his degree program with majors in Industrial Arts and Social Studies. After supervising student teachers for three years in the Mankato State University Laboratory School, he went to Stout State University in Wisconsin for his master’s degree in Educational Psychology, and he later earned a doctorate in education at Colorado State University in Greeley.

He joined the faculty of Tabor College as chairman of the Education Department in 1949, where he got Tabor’s application for teacher certification approved in 1958 and served as the Registrar and then the Dean of the college. After a stint of teaching at Rutgers University in New Jersey, he became chairman of the education program at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He then became a supervisor of Penn State University’s continuing education program for eastern Pennsylvania.

After his retirement in 1982, he and Mary moved back to Hillsboro, where his membership in the Hillsboro M. B. Church provided an opportunity to be the chair of the church council, as well as for Sunday School teaching. He became the executive director of the Kansas Paraguay Partners organization for seven years, making two trips to Mennonite settlements in Paraguay, and he directed a major project to restore all eighty panels of the stained-glass windows in the Tabor College auditorium. Throughout his retirement years, he remained a prolific reader and a constant learner.

Charles Louis Miskimen, Jr., 90, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at his home.&nbsp; He was born August 3, 1931 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Charles Louis Sr. and Hilda E. (Anderson) Miskimen.

Charles served in the United States Army in the Korean War from 1952 – 1954, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

He owned and operated his own business, Chuck’s Electric, in Cedar Rapids, IA, working as a Master Electrician.&nbsp; Charles later sold insurance for Farmers Elevator Mutual Insurance Company, later known as Farmland Insurance Company, for 20 years.&nbsp; Following this, Charles started Heritage House Floral and Gift Shop in McPherson, KS, until 1998.

Charles was a charter member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids, where he helped start and build.&nbsp; He would often lead the music and singing in the church, while Norma played the organ or piano. He later joined the Church of the Nazarene in McPherson.&nbsp; Most recently, Charles has been a member of the First Church of Nazarene in Newton.&nbsp; He was also a member of the American Legion in Newton.

He and his family enjoyed watching the planes land and take off at the local airport.&nbsp; Charles pursued and obtained his pilot’s license, eventually purchasing his own private plane so the family could continue to enjoy this hobby together.

He was united in marriage to Norma Price on October 6, 1956.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on March 1, 1993.&nbsp; Charles later married Dona (Price) Paulsen on June 5, 1993.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Dona Miskimen; daughters, Jeannine (Tom) Emmons of Wentzville, MO, and Beth (Lee) VanHyfte of Palo, IA; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, plus one on the way.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norma Miskimen; three brothers and two sisters.

Loretta was a graduate of Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson Community College, and Wichita State University.&nbsp; She worked as an occupational therapist, retiring with many years of service.&nbsp; Loretta was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hutchinson.

She was devoted to her country and served in the Patriot Guard Riders.&nbsp; Loretta was a lover of animals.&nbsp; She was always rescuing and fostering animals, especially dogs and cats.

Loretta is survived by:&nbsp; nieces,&nbsp; Julie (Bill) McKeel and Sarah (Larry) Ford; nephews, Leonard (Angela) Nelson, Nick Prine, Rob Prine, James Prine, John Prine, Danny Prine, and Martin Shultz; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews;&nbsp; and her fur babies, Delilah, PT, Boomer, and Snowflake.

Before moving to Hutchinson, Joan lived in Texas and worked for Sears.&nbsp; Upon moving to Hutchinson, she transferred to the Hutchinson Sears store and retired with many years of service.&nbsp; Joan then went to work for Doskocil Foods, South Hutchinson, and retired with over 10 years of service.&nbsp; In order to stay active after retirement, she began working part-time at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She lived in Hutchinson most of her life and then moved back to Texas five years ago, to be with her family.

Joan was an active member of First Assembly of God Church, Hutchinson, and Mount Olivet Worship Center, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She had a servant’s heart and enjoyed being involved in the life of the church, from teaching Sunday School, to serving on various committees and boards, singing in the choir, and playing the piano.&nbsp; Joan loved her family, sharing her faith, and serving her Savior.&nbsp;

On November 27, 1948, Joan married Merle Dean Black, Sr., in Harrison, AR.&nbsp; They shared over 61 years of marriage, prior to his death on May 30, 2010.

She is survived by:&nbsp; sons, Mark Eugene (Linda) Black of Andover, and Merle Dean (Cindy) Black, Jr. of Watagua, TX; grandchildren, Misty Farrell, Troy Black, Corey Black, and Brandon (April) Black; great-grandchildren, Alyssa McReynolds and Aiden Black; niece, Connie King; and nephew, Kurt Starks.

Joan was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husband; brothers, Jackie Starks and John Starks, Jr.; sister, Carolee Redenbaugh; and nephews, Randy Wilkes and Kevin Starks.

Funeral service will be 10am Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor John Chastain and Chaplain Luanne Haddaway officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to service time on Saturday, with the family present at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp;

&nbsp; Barry Lynn Henry, 46, of Canton, passed away suddenly at 3:25 a.m., Thursday, August 19th, 2021, at his home in rural Canton. Barry was born in Dodge City, Kansas on December 16, 1974. Barry is the son of Leta Irene (Rule) and Gary Jerome Henry. Barry attended Dodge City grade schools and graduated from Dodge City High School, Dodge City. He then attended and graduated from Tulsa Welding School, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Through the years Barry worked as a welder, pipefitter, and boilermaker for American Boiler and Mechanical, Salina and was currently employed at CHS of McPherson as a pipefitter. Barry Lynn Henry was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Aitken on June 2, 2007 in McPherson. This union brought together Barry's son, Quentin and Sarah's daughters, Silas and Asa. The family established their first home together in McPherson. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children, Wyatt, Levi, and Jovey. In May of 2014 the family fulfilled their dream of moving out to the country. Barry enjoyed cooking and working in his shop. He loved being outside, was very good working with his hands, and renovating their homes. Barry enjoyed welding projects working with wrought iron. He also enjoyed construction projects and carpentry. His greatest love was spending time with his family and helping his children with their rodeo events and other activities. In his younger years, Barry loved dirt bike riding and camping. His loving family includes his mother, Connie Mascareno of Manhattan; brother, Tim Mascareno and his fiancé Wendy Collier of Auburn, Nebraska; sister, Diana Mascareno of Council Grove; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Sandy in 2000 and an infant brother, Michael. Dennis passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the age of 66 years old. Marilyn worked at Friendly Acres in Newton, and then at Wheat State Manor for 35 years in laundry. She was a member of Federated Church. She loved her family and enjoyed sewing, baking anything sweet, puzzles, card games and dominos. Her loving family includes her, sons and their wives, Vic and Penny Hiebert of Park City, Kansas, Dave and Lesa Hiebert of Haysville; granddaughters, Jennifer (Aaron) Archer of Whitewater, Sheridan Hiebert; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Vic in 2016. Marilyn passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the age of 84 years old. Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday, August 17, from 10-11:00 a.m. with her funeral following at 11:00 both at Federated Church, 703 E. Central, Whitewater. He worked at Agco for 13 years as a Quality Assurance Technician. He also worked in construction for 30 years and then owned and operated his own construction company for 20 years. He enjoyed woodworking and going to the coffee clutch in Lehigh. He had an Alpaca farm, played softball and basketball in high school, and donated his time to help build the American Legion Building in Hillsboro. His loving family includes his children, Jennifer Dies of Newton, Ronald Lee Dies Jr (Denaye) of Lehigh, Heather Lengerich (Matt) of Draper, Utah, Andrew Dies of Nacogdoches, Texas, Billy (Robin) Dies and David Lofton (Angel) all of Hillsboro; sister, Carol Wilkening of Lehigh; brother, Robert Dies; grandchildren, Wyatt Dies, Samantha Lengerich, Tyler Lengerich, Mason Lofton, Tyler Lofton and many nieces and nephews. Diann Marie Wainwright, 38, of Alta Vista, Kansas, died August 8, 2021 at the Morris County Hospital.

Diann was born on October 23, 1982 the daughter of Dennis Wainwright and Wanda (Wilkerson) Timm. She was born at the Morris County Hospital, although her initial birth announcement listed her as being born at courthouse. Diann was a 2001 graduate of Council Grove High School. While in high school, she was a member of FCCLA, participating in contests and trips to Iowa. She was a 10 year member of Santa Fe Trail 4-H Club in Morris County. Her projects included clothing, dog, cat, rabbits, poultry, and her favorite was the horse project. Over the years Diann enjoyed showing horses in a variety of 4-H and Eastern Kansas Horseman Association shows. One of her showing highlights was showing at the American Royal. Diann’s career in the hospitality industry led her to general manager position at Wendy’s in Manhattan. After guiding her employees and store through a major renovation; out of 49 Wendy’s stores, they achieved ranking in the top 5. Diann was a member of the First Baptist church of Council Grove, and was active in the youth group throughout high school. In addition to her horses and house pets, Diann thoroughly enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. She also loved the years she lived in St Louis. She loved to travel see new things and meet new people. Although she was not a fan of yardwork, she did enjoy hosting backyard parties for family and friends. Diann was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Edgar and Mary Lou Wainwright and Ted and Evelyn Wilkerson. Vanessa Dawn Baldwin, 48, of Moundridge, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021.&nbsp; She was born November 29, 1972, in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Tracy Dillman.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at Hesston College.&nbsp; Vanessa was a PRN at Newton Medical Center and Comfort Care in Newton.

Vanessa enjoyed quilting and cooking for family in her spare time.&nbsp; Above all, she loved spending time with her granddaughters and her animals.

Vanessa was united in marriage to Larry Wayne Baldwin on October 31, 2019 in McPherson.&nbsp; He survives at their residence.

Other survivors include her sons, Adrian Carson of Moundridge, and Gabriel “Gabe” Cervantes of Wichita; daughter, Dominique Woods of Wichita; sisters, Trianna (Keith) Cowden of Walton, and Nicole Duffman of Kansas City, MO; brother, Phillip (Jessica) Duffman of Raymore, MO; five grandchildren, Mia, Lucy and Nadiyah Cervantes, and Christy and Olivia Farley; Larry’s parents, Robert E. and Linda Baldwin of Moundridge; sister-in-law, Julie Baldwin of Chanute; and brother-in-law, John (Lisa) Baldwin of Plains.

Vanessa was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mary Josephine and Victor White, Sr.; maternal grandparents, May Anna and Roy Dillman; and uncle, Walter White.

Cremation is planned with a celebration of life to be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Troy Eugene Leatherman passed away unexpectedly Monday, August 16, 2021, at the age of 78. Troy was born September 26, 1942 in Stafford, Kansas to father Virgil A. Leatherman and mother, Sarah F. (Boggess) Leatherman. He graduated from Preston High School in 1960 and was in the Army National Guard for six years. He worked for the Rock Island and Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor for 33 years and was a member of the Church of Christ. Troy loved fishing and hunting Elk in Colorado. His spare time was spent tinkering with anything that wasn’t nailed down. He also collected old tractors and had a fascination with twin engine airplanes. Troy married Kathleen (Badders) Leatherman on December 31, 1999 in Hutchinson, KS. Eventually they made their home in Abilene, Kansas where together, they shared a love and passion for animals; caring for dogs, miniature horses, mammoth and miniature donkeys, several exotic birds, and Troy’s beloved South American mountain lion, Sherry, who he cherished for 17 years. Troy is survived by his wife Kathleen; stepdaughter Michelle (Larry) Emerson of Beloit; stepsons Mike (Maria) Badders of Salina, and Mark Badders of McPherson; sisters, Sherry (John) Rishidian of Henderson, Kentucky, and Robin Ryan of Kirbyville, Missouri; grandchildren, Alex, Zack, Miranda, Alexis, and Ethan; nieces and nephews, Kathleen, Misty, Reza, Ramin, Raysha, and Rod; five great-grandchildren; and many great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, La Quinta (Badders) Leatherman, and brother-in-law John Ryan. Hendrick (Henry) Pyl, 96, died at Showalter Villa on August 18, 2021, surrounded by his family.

He was born March 1, 1925, in the Friesland province of Grou in the Netherlands, the son of Jelke and Aaltje (Postumi) Pyl.

During World War II Henry was part of an underground newton of French, Dutch and Belgian resistance against the Nazis. The organization’s goal was to save lives and smuggle documents. After the war, Pyl served for five years with the Dutch Army.

In 1960, Henry, his wife Annie, and their children came to the United States, eventually settling in Newton.

For 30 years Henry and Annie ran Nu-Way Janitorial. Henry also owned a business building garages for two years, was part of the janitorial and maintenance staff at Axtell Clinic, and was a foreman with American Coach.

Henry is survived by his children, Jelke (Cindy) Pyl and Alie Gadd; and 7 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jelke and Aaltje Pyl; wife, Antje (Annie) Bouma Pyl; daughter and son-in-law, Geesje and Terry Goodwin; 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

A visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 22, at Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, in Newton. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 23, also at the funeral home. Following the service, a graveside service will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorial contributions in Henry’s names may be made to Schowalter Villa or to the Disabled American Veterans, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.

Mary Lou Schmidt, 90, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, surrounded by family at Angel Arms Assisted Living, McPherson. She worked at Winslow Accounting as a bookkeeper, B.W. Jones &amp; Sons School Bus Service where she was a driver and dispatcher, and for Sterling Drug on the production line.

Mary Lou was born on December 8, 1930, in Meade, KS, the daughter of Loren Herbert and Ola Edmona (Taylor) Stratton. She graduated from St. John (KS) High School in 1948. On December 12, 1953, Mary Lou married Harvey H. Schmidt in Abilene, KS, and together they raised three children. Harvey preceded Mary Lou in death on May 22, 2013.

She was a member of First Church of God, Hutchinson.

Survivors include: three children, Linda Gilham (Dan) of Belle Plains, KS, Terry Schmidt (Debra) of Lawrence, KS, and Tim Schmidt (Roxanne) of McPherson, KS; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces &amp; nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers, Edgar, Herb, and Harold Stratton.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 28, at McPherson Cemetery.
