Anneliese Frieda Stewart, 91, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 30th, while in the company of family members, at the Cedars House.

Anneliese was born in Berlin, Germany on June 27, 1929, a daughter of Ann (Braun) and Jonas Hans Krenz.

Anneliese attended and graduated from the Berlin schools, Berlin, Germany.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church McPherson, KS.

Anneliese was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Through the years she worked for Sterling Drug as a line tester and retired in 1991. She also worked at East Kansas Peter Pan and at Mr. Z's Donuts much to the delight of her children.

Anneliese enjoyed baking, cooking, and knitting for her family and the best part of her life was taking care of her family. She will also be remembered for her afternoon coffee time with her family and friends. She loved volunteering at the Cedars Coffee Shop while a member of the Cedars Village.

Anneliese F. Krenz was united in marriage to Junior Dale Stewart on February 8, 1949 in Berlin, Germany. Their union would produce four children, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren by the time of her passing.

She is survived by her children, Sandy Baldwin and husband Bob, of McPherson, Ray Stewart and wife Karla, of McPherson, Bruce Stewart and wife Kirsten, of McPherson, and David Stewart and partner Bill Block, of Wichita, Kansas; her seven grandchildren, Jenni (Gunner) Peterson, Jessi (Mike) Boughfman, Haley (Eric) Richards, Shayna (Luke) McElwain, Brandon (Kelley) Stewart, Kaden Stewart and Kadee Stewart; her

ten great-grandchildren, Ryder and Sailor Peterson, Kendall and Kelby Boughfman, Harper and Rory Richards, Gavin and Norah McElwain, Lauren and Brayden Stewart.

Anneliese was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dale Stewart; sisters, Hannelore Lackey and Elfrieda Krieg

A Celebration of life will be held on June 25, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cedars Conference Center in McPherson.

Nancy Carolyn Anderson, 87, of Lindsborg died Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Bethany Home.  Nancy was born January 26, 1934 in Manhattan, KS to the late Richard Paige-Herzig and the late Frances (Larson) Herzig.  She married David W. Anderson on August 25, 1954 at Salemsborg Lutheran Church. 

Nancy earned as Associates Degree from the Asbury Hospital School of Nursing in Salina, and she worked as a registered nurse.  She was a member of Salemsborg Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of WELCA.

Survivors include her daughter: Debra Johnson (Warren) of Lindsborg, KS; son: Dana H. Anderson (Janice) of Edmond, OK; step mother: Ann Paige; half-brothers: David, Michael, Brian, Doug, Richard, and Kevin Paige; half-sisters: Susan Miller, Jennifer Blanchard, Deborah Harris, and Maria Steele; grandchildren: Anna Anderson (Brenton), Tyler Johnson (Molly), Ashley Swan (Scott), Ian Johnson, and Emily Johansson (Petrus); great-grandchildren: Brynna and Marik Anderson, August, Frances, and Rosemary Swan, Otis and Harley Anne Johansson, and Brik and Soren Johnson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: David; and her brother: Philip R. Herzig and his wife Gloria.

Voncile was born in Kingman KS 4/13/38 to Carl A &amp; Anna A (Brown) Bolinger.

Voncile was preceded in death by her parents Carl &amp; Anna and siblings, Joyce and Glen. She is survived by dozens of cousins and many, many former students and friends.

She grew up on the family farm near Cheney, KS. Attended 8 years of grade school at Pleasant Valley School in rural Kingman County KS. She attended High school in Cheney where she graduated as salutatorian of her class. She went on to college at Southwestern College in Winfield where she graduated with a degree in elementary education in 1960. And her teaching certificate in 1961. Her first teaching job was in Hoisington and then she moved to Ulysses and taught for another 40 years.

She was a longtime member of the UCC church in Cheney. The Baptist church in Ulysses where she played the piano. When she retired, she moved back to the farm near Cheney to live with her brother and sister and attended the TUCC church in Cheney. Where she stayed involved helping get food ready for the fair booth and baking pies. Her faith was amazing.

She was also a member of Eastern Star and Rebecca’s/Noble Grand, Tops; gas club and TOPS

Voncile passed away at Wheatland Heath Care Center, June 12, 2021 where she had been a resident since Oct 2019. Memorials are to the TUCC church in Cheney and the Diabetes Association in care of Livingston Mortuary, Kingman, KS 67068

Karen Beth Kelman, 60, died June 10, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  She was born April 28, 1961, in Wichita, to Dallas Lew and Elsie (Nickel) Macklin.

Karen graduated from Buhler High School and Pratt Community College, where she received her degree as a registered nurse. She worked as a nurse for over 20 years at the Via-Christi Burn Center, Wichita.  Karen currently was employed as a post-acute nurse at the Catholic Care Center, Wichita.  She took great pride in caring for her patients and residents.  In addition, Karen faithfully donated blood to the American Red Cross, and enjoyed sewing and altering wedding dresses. She was the ultimate caregiver; always putting others needs ahead of her own.  Karen’s greatest pride and joy were her four grandchildren, Brecken, Kash, Hadley, and Harper.

Karen is survived by:  son, Mathew Kelman (Jenna) of Hutchinson; daughter, Molly Willhaus (Clinton) of Nickerson; grandchildren, Brecken and Kash Kelman and Hadley and Harper Willhaus; mother, Elsie Macklin of Hutchinson; sister, Gina Meinen (Duane) of Maricopa, AZ; and former spouse, Steve Kelman of Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dallas Macklin.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with The Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Newton - Joan Ruth Duerksen, 83, passed away June 12, 2021 at her residence in Newton. She was born February 8, 1938 in Lehigh to Dan and Rose (Klassen) Plett. She married Willis Duerksen September 13, 1956 at Gnadenau Church rural Hillsboro. 

Survivors include: sons, Noel (Barb) Duerksen of Springhill, KS, Richard (Amy) Duerksen of Newton; daughters, Nona (Jeff) Mason of Goodland, KS, Martha (Roy) Hopkins of Newton; brother, Robert (Eilene) Plett of Reedley, CA; sister, Carol Jantz of Denver, Colorado; sister-on-law, Rowena Plett of Lincolnville; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Johnny Dean Smith, 77, of Hutchinson, died June 12, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born January 14, 1944, in Hutchinson, to Oliver A. and O. Zay (Latham) Smith.

Johnny worked for many years on the road maintenance crew for Reno County. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, watching NASCAR, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Johnny loved Christmas! He would make treats and candies and dress up like Santa Claus to make the holiday special for his family and community. Johnny was a member of New Life Church of the Nazarene.

On April 21, 1975, he married Karen J. Vedder, in Miami, OK. She survives.

Also surviving are: children, Jeannie Steffen (Lee), Wendy Moore (Brian), Dwayne Smith (Angie), Candy Smith, Tammie Releford, Terry Hilton (Jodi), Nicole Hilton; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Frank Smith (Brenda), Karl Smith, Bob Smith (Connie), Rick Smith (Arlene), Georgia Waldren; and numerous extended family members.

Johnny was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Johnny Dean Smith Jr., and grandson, Jimmy Eugene Aston.

Johnny Dean Smith |1944-2021|

William (Bill) Starr, 82, passed away at Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kansas, on June 12, 2021. He was born to Russell and Hazel Starr in Kansas City, Kansas, on May 16, 1939. He grew up in Soldier, Kansas. He married Carol Pollock on July 3, 1958, they later divorced. He lived and worked in Topeka until relocating to Great Bend when they bought the Drummer Boy Restaurant. Bill’s passion was antiques and he became a dealer having shops in Lyons, then Ellinwood and then Lyons again. He traveled doing antique shows all over the United States. He loved the history of Ellinwood and worked to preserve that history. He owned and operated Starr Antiques in the old Wolf Hotel for many years. He loved to give tours of the underground tunnels. He moved to Lyons in 2011. He and his best friend Michael Gillespie owned and operated Starr Rentals. 

Bill is survived by Michael Gillespie; daughter, Jill Vierthaler and husband Greg of Spearville; son, Neal Starr and wife Brenda of Oberlin; daughter-in-law; Kimberly Starr of Great Bend; grandchildren, Alicia Stoltenberg, Rachele Vierthaler, Zachariah Starr, Mark Starr, and Paul Starr; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death in death by his son, Thad Starr; his parents, and brothers, Lewis and Richard Starr; sister, Lois Mae; and friend, Jim Elliott. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, Lyons, with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Burial will be at Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood at a later date. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.

Bill’s passion was antiques and he became a dealer having shops in Lyons, then Ellinwood and then Lyons again. He traveled doing antique shows all over the United States. He loved the history of Ellinwood and worked to preserve that history. He owned and operated Starr Antiques in the old Wolf Hotel for many years. He loved to give tours of the underground tunnels. He moved to Lyons in 2011. He and his best friend Michael Gillespie owned and operated Starr Rentals. Bill is survived by Michael Gillespie; daughter, Jill Vierthaler and husband Greg of Spearville; son, Neal Starr and wife Brenda of Oberlin; daughter-in-law; Kimberly Starr of Great Bend; grandchildren, Alicia Stoltenberg, Rachele Vierthaler, Zachariah Starr, Mark Starr, and Paul Starr; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death in death by his son, Thad Starr; his parents, and brothers, Lewis and Richard Starr; sister, Lois Mae; and friend, Jim Elliott. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, Lyons, with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Burial will be at Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood at a later date. Robert “Steve” Robbins, 67, died at his home on June 11, 2021 surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 12, 1953 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Robert and Ruth (Gibbens) Robbins.

Steve was retired for the past 5 years and worked at Car Quest after retirement for the fun of it.

On May 21, 2004, Steve married Treva Crawford in Newton, Kansas, gaining two kids to love as his own. They were married for seventeen good years at the time of his passing.

Steve was always a kind, loving, ornery man. He loved to tease the grandkids and loved his friends and family. Steve made new friends everywhere he went.

During his free time, Steve could be found working in the garage on his Model T or working on the Model T he was building with his granddaughter. Steve loved to ride his Harley with his brother and friends.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Treva Robbins of Newton; son, Joshua (Heather) Crawford of Newton; daughter, Meagan (Josh) Wilson of Peabody; 6 grandchildren, Dylan, Dauri and Dean Crawford, and Arianna, Gage and Maddix Wilson; brother, Rod Robbins of Newton; sister, Rita Adams of Sedgwick; many nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Robbins, Ruth Huebert and step-dad “Red” Huebert; nephews, Jon Robbins and Jeremy Adams; father-in-law, Gene Redger; sister-in-law, Valora Redger; and brother-in-law, Lonnie Redger.

Ruth W. Johnson, 104, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 11, 2021 at NMC Health Medical Center in Newton.  She was born March 6, 1917, in Moundridge, Kansas, the daughter of Frank H. and Anna (Dyck) Wenger.

She was a member of the Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite of Hesston.

Ruth was united in marriage to Orval Johnson on July 24, 1935 at McPherson, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on May 11, 1993.

She is survived by her sons, Edward (Hazel) Johnson of Demopolis, AL, and Frank Johnson of Faunsdale, AL; daughters, Anna “Annie” (Johnnie) Johnson of Arthur, IL, Janet Zismann of Macon, MS, and Christine (Kirby) Goering of Moundridge; 26 grandchildren; 89 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Marilyn Johnson and Carol Johnson of Macon, MS; brothers, Maynard (Vera) Peters of Stapleton, GA, John (Kathleen) Wenger of Walnut Hill, FL, and Glen (Kay) Wenger of Faunsdale, AL; sisters, Edith Koehn of Montezuma, Verna Schmidt of Macon, MS, Vesta (Verle) Peters of Walnut Hill, FL, Mary Ann (Jay) Nikkel of Arthur, IL, and Martha (Allen) Koehn of Moundridge.

A nearly life-time resident of Reno County, Phyllis grew up in South Hutchinson and attended Nickerson High School. She was baptized in the South Hutchinson Christian Church.

Phyllis was well known for her big smile, many acts of kindness and friendship to others. She enjoyed visiting with her multitude of friends and family, riding her motorcycle and all things flamingo. She will always be remembered as a loving, caring, happy and fun loving person. She was loved by all.

Dallas, Texas passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021, in Dallas. He was born 
December 20, 1966, in Hays, Kansas to James Clarence and Rose Mary 
(Rupp) O’Rourke Egger. Kevin graduated from Ellis High School in 1985.

Kevin was an Aircraft Engineer with 
Bombardier in Dallas. He was an avid sports fan, especially of NASCAR, 
K-State Wildcats and the Boston Celtics.

He is survived by his mother, Rose Mary
 Egger of Hays; two stepsisters, Renee Rupp of Hays, and Raimy Hester of
 Hutchinson as well as uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, James O’Rourke; a brother, Sean O’Rourke and a stepfather, Doug Egger.

Michael David “Mike” Richardson, 37, of Haven, died June 5, 2021, at his home. He was born August 20, 1983, in Hutchinson to David and Rhonda (Blocker) Richardson.

Mike graduated from Haven High School in 2002, and went on to earn his Associates of Fire Science from Hutchinson Community College. He worked in many different places, including time overseas as a civilian contractor for the United States Military. Mike fought forest fires as a hot shot firefighter in the North West and was also a general manager for Genesis personal trainers. &nbsp;He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Haven.

Mike is survived by: daughter, Phoenix Sky Richardson; mother, Rhonda Richardson, Haven; brother, Marcus Richardson (Jami), Haven; sister, Julie Richardson (Tim Crow), Mulvane; nephew, Tavion Richardson, Mulvane; and grandmother, Sharon Richardson, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by: father, David Richardson; grandfather, John Richardson; and grandparents, Harold and Nellie Blocker.

Sharon Kay Beck, 78, of Hutchinson, passed away June 4, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born October 16, 1942, in Hutchinson, to Kenny ‘Bud’ and Kathleen (VanZandt) Barnhart.

Kay graduated from Buhler High School, Hutchinson Community College, and received her Bachelor’s degree in business administration from McPherson College. She was the secretary at Buhler High School until the family moved to Las Vegas, NV. There, Kay worked as a clerical assistant for the Bureau of Reclamation. The family returned to Hutchinson in 2005.

Kay loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed collecting angel figurines. Kay was a member of Union Valley Bible Church.

In 1962, she married Lyle E. ‘Sonny’ Beck, in Hutchinson. They shared 43 years of marriage before his death on November 10, 2005.

Kay is survived by: her sons, Michael Beck (Brenda) of Albuquerque, NM, Neal Beck (Wendy) of Las Vegas, NV, Brad Beck (Tracy) of Hutchinson; sister, Sue Stevens; brother, Bill Barnhart (Anita); sister-in-law, Sherry Barnhart, all of Hutchinson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Ron Barnhart; and brother-in-law, Duane Stevens.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Elliott Chapel. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to service time. F. Warren Sturgeon, 80, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham. He was born September 18, 1940 in Larned to Frank and Sylvia (King) Sturgeon. Warren married Phyllis (Keller) Sturgeon on October 8, 1961 in Sun City. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2020.

Warren attended Greensburg High School. He worked as a cowboy at Robins Ranch where he met Phyllis. He moved to Spearman, Texas where he was an over the road truck driver, pumped oil wells and worked ground crew at Sparks Brothers Aviation. He learned to fly and got his commercial license and started doing cropdusting on Government contracts in Alabama and Canada. He then moved to Haviland and owned and operated Farmers Spraying Service Inc. since in 1976. He was a member of Greensburg Christian Church, Masonic Lodge 32nd Degree, Scottish Rites in Blue Lodge, BPOE Elks Lodge, Legion Member, Kansas Agricultural Aviation Association and the National Agricultural Aviation Association. He loved his business and working, family, fishing, talking and visiting, drinking coffee, RV roadtrips with Phyllis, going to the dunes and riding 4-wheelers and RZRs, historical trips, and reading and studying the Bible. He was always a very loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his son, Tony (Michelle) Sturgeon of Haviland; grandsons, Tyson (Traci) Sturgeon of Pratt, Thomas Sturgeon of Pratt and Benjamin Sturgeon of Haviland.

Warren is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis L. Sturgeon; son, Frank "Butch" Orgal Sturgeon; and sisters, Francis Pond and Corinne Clift.

He was a member of Greensburg Christian Church, Masonic Lodge 32nd Degree, Scottish Rites in Blue Lodge, BPOE Elks Lodge, Legion Member, Kansas Agricultural Aviation Association and the National Agricultural Aviation Association. He loved his business and working, family, fishing, talking and visiting, drinking coffee, RV roadtrips with Phyllis, going to the dunes and riding 4-wheelers and RZRs, historical trips, and reading and studying the Bible. He was always a very loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.He is survived by his son, Tony (Michelle) Sturgeon of Haviland; grandsons, Tyson (Traci) Sturgeon of Pratt, Thomas Sturgeon of Pratt and Benjamin Sturgeon of Haviland.Warren is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis L. He is survived by his wife, Joyce May, Lyons, Kansas; 4 children, Sheila Reynolds (Christopher) Hutchinson, Kansas, Sandy Poe (John), Lyons, Kansas, Michael May (Dawnyel), Geneseo, Kansas, and Denise Mitchell (Michael) Edmond, Oklahoma, his 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, and brother Herbert May (Kay) Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Karilyn Kay (Willett) Doll, 86, left this world peacefully on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, while a resident of Sterling Village, Sterling, Kansas. She was born October 7, 1934 to Vern E. and Nadine (Britt) Willett in El Dorado, Kansas. Karilyn graduated from El Dorado High School in 1952 and attended Butler County Community College. She worked as a secretary for Leasure Law Office in El Dorado. She married John Franklin Doll on March 24, 1953 and to that union were born seven children. They were later divorced. 

A resident of Chase, Kansas for most of her life, Kay worked as a certified nurse’s aide at the Lyons District Hospital in Lyons and as a secretary at Chase Grade School in Chase, retiring in the year 2000. She had made many acquaintances over the years while at the hospital and CGS and had seen countless students work their way through Grade School, Middle School, and High School and then on to adulthood. Kay, also known as Grandma Kay to so many people, loved spending time with her family and friends, whether it was having a picnic or watching the sunrise at Sterling Lake, going to lots of movies and concerts, going shopping, or checking out different restaurants. She loved her margaritas, red beers, reading good books and she absolutely loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending their special events over the years. Kay also had a special soft spot in her heart for her grandpups and loved listening to those “doggie tales”. She was a fabulous cook … making tasty fried chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy and the most marvelous “pinwheel cake”, along with many other delectable delights. 

Survivors include her children: Terri and Jeff Huslig, Ellinwood, Kansas; Mick and Deana Doll, Raymond, Kansas; Cheryl and Don Stegman, Lyons, Kansas; Tami and Sparky Campbell, Olathe, Kansas; Marty Doll, Chase, Kansas; Monte and Robin Doll, Ellinwood, Kansas; and Debora and Rick Weve, Wichita, Kansas; one brother, Scotty and Shirley Willett, Park Hill, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Arleen Shipley, Deer Creek, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wayne Willett; and her grandson, Daulton Doll (who was most definitely waiting for her at the Pearly Gates with open arms and a giant smile). 

Per Kay’s request, there will be no funeral service as cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 5:00 p.m. at Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling, Kansas. A private family service is scheduled for a later date.

Eldon LaVerne ‘Verne’ Tilton, 89, died June 10th, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 4th, 1932, in Hutchinson, to Alto Harold and Viola Grace (Fox) Tilton.

Verne graduated from Sterling High School in 1950. After high school, he began working at a Chevrolet garage in Sterling. Verne later was a farmer/stockman in southwest Reno County, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.

He loved spending time with his family, especially on trips to Estes Park, CO, helping everyone fix their homes and cars, and spending time with his beloved animals.

On July 7, 1957, Verne married Imogene A. Reece. in Laredo, KS. They shared almost 64 years of marriage and two wonderful children.&nbsp;

Verne is survived by his wife, Imogene of Hutchinson; his son, Mark (Beth) Tilton of Hutchinson, his daughter, Sally (Jeff) Thorsell of Douglas, WY; his grandchildren, Kara (Shane) Warren, Brent (Jaime) Tilton, both of Hutchinson; Halee (Dave) Johannsen of Sterling; Eric (Elayna) Thorsell of Casper, WY; Alyson (Braedon) Cook of Douglas, WY; his brother, Harold Tilton of Sterling; and his six great-grandchildren, Creighton Warren, Anslee Johannsen, Jace Tilton, Harper Warren, Brodie Tilton, and Dax Johannsen.&nbsp;

Pratt – JuliaMae Hembree, 83, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Pratt Health and Rehab in Pratt, KS.  She was born December 11, 1937, in Pratt, the daughter Clarence D. and LaVenia E. (Patterson) Willard.

She graduated from Pratt High School and attended Wichita State University where she received her Associates Degree in Social Work.  She worked for the State of Kansas for over 16 years.  She was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout Leader in the Pratt area for many years.  She was recruited to an ARO leader and received a Silver Beaver award.  JuliaMae was also a commissioner for the Girls Scouts.  JuliaMae was a very active volunteer at the Pratt Regional Medical Center logging in over 5,000 hours of volunteer work.  On August 27, 1955, she married John F. Hembree in Pratt, KS.  He died on March 23, 1999.

JuliaMae was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; a sister, Clarene McHenry; and son-in-law, Phillip Eubank.

She is survived by her five children, Annetta Eubank, Brenda (Wes) Watson, Cindy (Lonnie) Wagner, John (Barbara) Hembree, and James (Holli) Hembree; siblings, Wanda Castleberry, Joan Casey, William Willard, and Dan (Rayetta) Willard; 10 grandchildren, LyCynda Watson, Ben Watson, Molly Watson, Crystal Eubank, Madison Hambree, LaVenia Wagner, Jerica Hembree, Erica Hembree, Jamison Hembree, and Jermiah Hembree; and one great grandson, Rexley McClendon.

Maxine Ratzlaff Schellenberg 90, died June 7, 2021 at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton, Kansas. She was born on July 12, 1930 in Hillsboro, Kansas to Harrison Benjamin and Martha Betty (Goertz) Ratzlaff.

Maxine was a teacher and taught elementary school classes at Delano, California, Honolulu, Hawaii, and for most of her career at Wichita. While teaching in Wichita she extended her teaching by founding a service “Academic Evaluation’s” to evaluate the academic/educational skills of children in order to provide helpful information to parents and teachers. The last year of her teaching career she taught and supervised practice teachers at Wichita State University.

Along with her teaching, Maxine was also talented in music. She once described her teaching and music as being “interlocked” She used her musical talent to sing in church choirs; she also sang at many wedding ceremonies.

Maxine married Richard P. “Dick” Schellenberg at Hillsboro, Kansas on June 1, 1998. Although they were married when they were both in their late 60’s they were fortunate to still be able to share 23 years together. Their good times included travel to San Francisco to Boston, and trips to Vermont to visit friends that attended the Marlboro Music Festival.

Maxine is survived by her husband Dick Schellenberg of North Newton, KS and brother Clayton Ratzlaff of Mt. Hope, Kansas.

No Memorial Service is planned at this time and private family interment will be in the Haven of Rest Cemetery in Hillsboro, Kansas.

Duane McCall, 85, of McPherson, passed away at 10:20 p.m., Wednesday, June 9th, 2021 while in the company of his wife, at McPherson Hospital.

Duane was born in Woodston, Kansas on November 1, 1935, a son of Hattie Rose (Covey) and Leland William McCall.

Duane attended the Woodston grade school, and graduated from Woodston High School, Woodston, Kansas. He then attended an Electronics trade school in Topeka, Kansas for a year.

He was a member of Harmony Christian Church McPherson, where he was Baptized.

Duane McCall was united in marriage to Roberta May Shields on September 23, 1960 at St Francis, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in Glade, Kansas. They were blessed with six children, four sons and two daughters, Rick, Coral, Tim, Mitch, Terry, and Randy. The couple moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1981 and lived their until 1986 when the couple moved to McPherson, Kansas.

Duane has always been a truck driver starting out by working for his father hauling livestock. He had his own trucking business called McCall Trucking for many years before going to work for Farmland and later worked for Cenex in which he retired from. It was while he was driving for Farmland, his fellow truckers gave him the nick name "Pokey". After retirement he drove for Ryan Reiff hauling grain until he was 80 years old.

Duane enjoyed driving a truck, reading, watching western shows on tv, listening to country music especially the Diamond W. Wranglers, traveling and going on cruises, rescuing Boston Terriers, visiting and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 60 years, Roberta McCall, of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Rick McCall, of Culver, Kansas, Coral McCall, of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Timothy McCall and wife Karen, of Derby, Kansas, Mitch McCall, of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Terry Plunkett and husband Alan, of Carlton, Kansas, and Randy McCall, of Grove, Oklahoma; his 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; other relatives and a host of friends

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie and Leland McCall; and his sisters, Delores McCall and Darlene LeFort.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson.

The funeral service will be held at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15th, with Pastor Robert H. Park officiating.

Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.

Vivian Marjorie Embers, 97, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:57 p.m., Tuesday, June 8th, 2021 peacefully at Angel Arms.

Vivian was born in rural Holden, Missouri on October 17, 1923, a daughter of Vernon Tipton and Viola Savilla (Kitterman) Bird.

Vivian attended El Dorado grade school, El Dorado, Kansas, Roosevelt and Washington grade school, Park School and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1941.

She was a member of First Baptist Church McPherson.

Through the years Vivian was a owner operator of her own hairdressing salon out of her home for several years before working and managing for Beau Mart Salon. Then worked as a realtor for Duguid Insurance and Real Estate both of McPherson, Kansas.

Vivian was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, Professional Women's Business Club, Friends and Counsel and was on the board of the McPherson Opera House.

Vivian enjoyed flower gardening, birds, playing bridge, music, arranging parties and loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her granddaughters and great granddaughter's.

Vivian M. Bird was united in marriage to Kenneth Duane Embers, Sr. on January 11, 1942 at the First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in Wichita, Kansas for their first year. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, a son and a daughter, Ken and Jan..

She is survived by her children Ken Embers and his wife Pat, of Manhatten, Kansas and Jan Decker and her husband Karyl, of McPherson, Kansas. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Tami Wilson(Dan), Nicole Laine(John) and Sheila Embers and 2 great grandchildren, Rylee Bachus and Madilyn Laine.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth; her sister Verna and her two grandson, James Andrew Embers and Christopher Luke Embers.
