LeVonne Minear, 97 of McPherson and formerly of Canton, died September 25, 2022 at The Cedars, McPherson. She was a retired registered nurse.

She was born July 9, 1925 in Galva, the daughter of Daniel and Beulah (Waln) Russell. On June 9, 1948 she married Billy B. Minear in Canton. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2011.

She was a member of the McPherson First United Methodist Church and the Canton American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Bruce (Tish) Minear, Colorado Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Nancy Banning, Hutchinson and Jill (Darren) Roller, Canton; a brother, Rex Russell, Mentor; a sister, Carolee Chartier, McPherson; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A grandson, Brian Minear, two brothers, Delton and Marvin Russell and a sister, Yunietta Taylor, preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2022 at the McPherson First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Canton Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Olson’s Mortuary, Canton.

He was an avid fisherman.&nbsp; He
served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII.&nbsp;

On July 30, 1938, he married Miriam Lewis in McPherson. They
were married for 75 years before her passing on December 6, 2013.

Survivors include a son, Gary Ely, Hutchinson; a daughter,
Pamela (Galen) Regehr, McPherson; grandchildren, Russell (Angie) Ely,
Hutchinson, Lowell (Paula) Ely, Inman, Darrell (Dana) Ely, Hutchinson, Kelli
(Lance) Lusk, Hutchinson, Lisa (Darren) Schmidt, El Dorado, and Jodi (Dustin)
Hirsh, Newton; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and a
sister, Vada Ambler, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter – in –
law, Betty Ely; a great grandson, Nicholas Regehr Parsons; 4 brothers; and a
sister.

Cremation has taken place.&nbsp;

Karen was a 1963 graduate of Centre High School.&nbsp; She worked for the Extension Office in Marion for several years and later as an engineering tech for KDOT.&nbsp; Karen was united in marriage to Robert Ehrlich on June 16, 1979, at the Marion Christian Church where she was an active member.&nbsp; Family was very important to Karen and Bob.&nbsp; She loved her children and grandchildren.&nbsp;

Karen is survived by Mike (Kathy) Ehrlich of Marion, Gary (Diane) Ehrlich of Dodge City, Julie (David) Sellmeyer of Vinita, OK, Sheri Schwab of Raleigh, NC, and Lorie (Alan) Salts of Leawood; grandchildren Sam ( Nyalok Nhial) Ehrlich, Katey ( Derek) Evans, Wyatt (Ricky Acero) Ehrlich, Dr. Codi ( Reuben Jimenez) Ehrlich, M.D., Sam Salts and Shae Salts; great grandchildren Kaimey, Skylar and Archer; sisters Marilyn (Jim) Peterson of Burdick and Kaye ( Lyle Cirkel) Risser of Tecumseh, OK and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Nancy L. Hamilton, 81, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022 at St. Dominic Hospital. She was born on September 15, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Bill and Martha (Randles) Lintecum. Nancy married Fred Clark Hamilton on June 6, 1964 at Prairie Village, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 12, 2015. Nancy attended Tufts University in Massachusetts for 1 year then transferred to the University of Kansas where she graduated with a double Masters in History and Political Science. She later went on to earn her Doctorate of Law Degree at the University of Houston. She was a member of St. Thomas Presbyterian Church in Houston. She volunteered for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). She is survived by children, Martha Elizabeth Hamilton of Huntington Beach, California and Fred Colby (KiKi) Hamilton of Houston, Texas; brother, Randy (Jacqueline) Lintecum of Indio, California; sister in-law, Marjorie Buck of Iuka; brother in-law, Vern (Rayna) Taylor of San Antonio, Texas; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Hamilton of Houston, Texas. Virginia Ann Holub, 74, died on September 22, 2022, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

She was born on August 24, 1948, in Sanger, Fresno County, California, the daughter of Charles and Tela (Pendergraft) Cornelius. She attended Newton High School, graduating with the class of 1968. She was protective of her younger sister Alice, and loved playing softball.

Virginia earned her C.N.A. certificate and over the next 21 years would work at Kansas Christian Home and Halstead Hospital.

On December 27, 1978 Virginia was united in marriage to Steve Holub in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The couple would have celebrated 44 wonderful years of marriage this December.

Virginia enjoyed rock and roll, especially Elvis, polka dancing , her grand-children, Indian history, and finding the best deals at garage sales and auctions.

Virginia was always there for others, she spent time as a companion to many on hospice. Many of her children’s friends called her Mom. She found ways to make others laugh, and had an amazing sense of humor. She was always willing to help anyone in need.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Steve Holub; daughters, Ruth Holub and Stephanie (Jeremy) Ashby; grandchildren, Heaven “Ezra” Holub, Trey Tucker, and Calder Ashby; and sister, Alice (Mike) Hovious; and many other dear family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Tela Cornelius &nbsp;and infant sister, Marilyn Sue Cornelius.

A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Newton. Visitation will be the evening prior, Wednesday, September 28, 2022, from 5 – 9 p.m., with the rosary taking place at 6:00 p.m.

Linda “Jewel” Poole, 39, died on September 17, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was surrounded by loved ones.

She was born on December 11, 1982, the daughter of Ralph “Dennis” Stevens and Regina (Langston) DiCharia. Jewel graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in Florida with the class of 2000.

Jewel worked as a manager at Charlie’s restaurant while earning her C.N.A. certificate. She then moved on to work at Asbury Park in memory support while earning her C.M.A. certificate. At the time of her death she was employed at Kidron Bethel Village. She was working on becoming an LPN.

Jewel enjoyed serving God, giving to others, attending church, neighborhood gatherings and going to the women’s encounters. She also enjoyed teaching kids ministry.

On September 21, 2013, Jewel was united in marriage to Jason Poole in Newton. The following year they welcomed their son, Jayden Poole. Jewel was over the moon about becoming a mom, she loved spending time and watching him grow.

Jewel is survived by her husband of 9 years, Jason Poole; son, Jayden Poole; mother, Regina DiCharia; maternal grandmother, Linda Roberts; maternal grandfather, John E. Langston, Sr.; sisters, Denise Click, Crystal Turley, and Kayla Stevens; brothers, Dennis Stevens and Steven Smith; step-mother, Roberta Stevens; husbands parents, Tim and Layna Clark and John and Edwina Poole; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in the death by her father Ralph “Dennis” Stevens; paternal grandmother, Aggie Stevens; and paternal grandfather, Ernest Stevens.

Nathan Patrick Hanes (42) passed away Wednesday September 21, 2022 in Wichita.

He was born in Wichita, to Cheryl&nbsp;(Stotts)&nbsp;Hainlen and Patrick Hanes on October 3, 1979. He was a lifelong resident of Wichita. He attended Wichita South High School and graduated in 1998.&nbsp; In high school Nate was a state qualifying wrestler and member of DECCA.&nbsp; After high school, Nate attended Wichita State University where he joined the Delta Upsilon Fraternity.&nbsp; He had many friends from high school and college that he continued to keep in touch with over the years.&nbsp;

Nate loved being with his sons.&nbsp; They were the light of his life.&nbsp; From watching movies to going out to dinner to having fun at the trampoline park, there was nowhere else Nate wanted to be other than with his sons.&nbsp; Outside of being with his 2 sons, being a manager at Wal-Mart was Nate’s favorite job.&nbsp; He had great relationships with his employees, so much so that they were still visiting him in the hospital and at home until the end.

Nate is preceded in death by his grandfather Curtis Stotts, grandparents Evan &amp; Eldon Hanes, step-father Ray Hainlen and God mother Shirley West.&nbsp;

Kendra Denea Kinkaid, age 43, who loved to be called Mommy by her children and Babe by her spouse.&nbsp;

Kendra was born September 3, 1979 in Wichita, the beautiful daughter of Craig and Vicki Kinkaid.&nbsp; Kendra was a devoted, loving mother to Jayden and Jaxon. Her children were her whole world. The only thing she ever wanted in life was to be a mother.&nbsp; &nbsp;She was raising her children with the love of Jesus and teaching them to love Jesus. That was her prayer, along with her loving spouse Tracy Hess.&nbsp; She always made sure holidays were the best they possibly could be with meals, gifts, and reminders of why we celebrate.&nbsp; Kendra’s love of Christmas, fireworks, camping/campfires, Table Rock Lake and pool time is unmatched. &nbsp;Always working on that tan!!&nbsp; She enjoyed making bracelets and anklets, and she enjoyed sharing them with so many.&nbsp; She will always be remembered for her laugh and giving the best hugs.

Kendra passed away Sunday, September 18th, 2022 suddenly, peacefully in her sleep, at home with her loving family.&nbsp;

Kendra is survived by her loving spouse, Tracy Hess; her daughter Jayden Denea, 9; and her son Jaxon Grey, 7.&nbsp; Her parents Craig and Vicki Kinkaid.&nbsp; Her big brother Ryan (Daniel) of Las Vegas, NV.&nbsp; Her little brother, Brett (Shawna) and nephews, Blake and Maddox of Buena Vista, CO.

Kendra Denea Kinkaid, age 43, who loved to be called Mommy by her children and Babe by her spouse.&nbsp;Kendra was born September 3, 1979 in Wichita, the beautiful daughter of Craig and Vicki Kinkaid.&nbsp; Kendra was a devoted, loving mother to Jayden and Jaxon. Her children were her whole world. The only thing she ever wanted in life was to be a mother.&nbsp; &nbsp;She was raising her children with the love of Jesus and teaching them to love Jesus. Ronald Rhodes passed away on Sept 20,2022,in Wichita. He was in born St Louis, Missouri to Thomas Dudley Rhodes II and Elsie Mae (Clark) Rhodes. He was a life long resident of Park City. He graduated from Leto High School in Tampa, Florida. After graduation he enlisted and served in the United States Army. His love and passion was as a Pastor serving the Lord for 25 years. Dan Wesley Gill, 71, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away September 21, 2022, at his home. He was born December 31, 1950, in Sterling, the son of Lex and Doris Marie Frederick Gill. 

Dan was a lifelong Rice County resident. He attended Sterling High School. Dan worked at the Lyons Salt Plant, Locke Stove Foundry and in the oil field. He was a mechanic, whittler and enjoyed tinkering. Dan loved his family and was extremely fond of his nieces and nephews. 

He is survived by his brother, Lance David Gill and wife Vickie of Abilene; sister, Debra Groth and husband Don of Hutchinson; and nieces and nephews, Amanda Gentry of Boise, ID, Katie Perdue of Enterprise, Dustin Huffman of Dayton, OH, Edie Perez of Bartlesville, OK, Emilie Schultz of McPherson, and Andrew Huffman of Bixby, OK. Dan is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Todd Gill; and brother-in-law, David Huffman.

Mary was born December 4, 1934 in Munjor, to Aegidius and Clara (Gross) Pfannestiel.&nbsp; She attended Trinity Catholic High School in Hutchinson and graduated in 1952.&nbsp; Mary was a catholic nun and devoted herself to her faith and prayer.&nbsp; She trained at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hutchinson, KS where she met the love of her life, Ralph S. Westgate.&nbsp; They were married on July 2, 1955 in Venice, CA.&nbsp; Ralph and Mary had two children; Mary and Lisa. Mary is survived by her husband, Ralph; her daughters, Mary and husband Ron Gentry of Yorba Linda, CA and Lisa Hoskins and her fiancé Roger Avery of Hutchinson; two grandchildren, Candice and Chris Florence; and one great grandchild, Layla Hershberger.&nbsp; She is preceded by her parents, and five sisters, Freda, Dotty, Velma, Darlene, and Juanita. Charlotte Banks Summers, 79, died peacefully with her husband and daughters by her side, September 19, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born July 27, 1943, in Great Bend, to Walter Edward and Sylvia Ellen (Witte) Banks.&nbsp;

Charlotte graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1961. She attended Oklahoma College for Women before transferring to KU where she studied at both the Lawrence and Medical Center campuses, graduating in 1967 with a degree in biological science and research. &nbsp;Charlotte began her career as a research biologist in the food laboratory at Far-Mar-Co. While her most treasured job was raising her two daughters, Elizabeth and Cady, she also enjoyed keeping active with several part-time positions including Puzzling Maps by Peirce Puzzle Company, the Cosmosphere, and Cranford College. Later, she became District Manager for Manpower Personnel Service, retiring after 20 years in 2015.

Even while working full-time, Charlotte always made time to serve her community. The women’s philanthropic educational organization, P.E.O., was near and dear to her heart. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter BL and served as called upon in many roles.&nbsp; She also served on the Kansas State Chapter Board for six years, including State President from 2000-2001. In 2002, Charlotte was selected for Leadership Hutchinson, an experience she enjoyed very much, that helped her continue to serve Hutchinson and Reno County. During retirement, Charlotte served on several boards, including the Hutchinson Town Club and as President of the Hutchinson Art Center during its remodel.&nbsp; After the Lair White House was opened in 2014, Charlotte managed the Kansas State Fair Museum. The theme for the exhibits was changed each year, requiring countless hours to research, locate artifacts, and assemble the displays. Charlotte was a faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild.

Even with all these activities, Charlotte still made time for friendships, hobbies, and being a loving wife and Nana.&nbsp; She was a dedicated friend and loved writing witty poems to celebrate her friends and family.&nbsp; Charlotte enjoyed traveling and keeping her mind active with bridge and book clubs. When she was younger, she enjoyed sailing and snow skiing with her husband.

On December 28, 1967, Charlotte married Robert Charles “Bob” Summers, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared nearly 55 years of marriage.

Charlotte is survived by: her husband, Bob of Hutchinson; daughters, Elizabeth Summers Hunt (Paul) of Waterford, MI, Cady Summers Panetta (Michael) of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Sydney and Evan Hunt, Sylvia and Nicholas Panetta; sister, Mary Banks Hitchcock (Charles) of Mission Viejo, CA; brother, Thurston Banks (Linda) of Cookeville, TN; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary was a 1949 graduate of Denver East High School and attended college at the University of Denver. She was united in marriage to Benjamin Junior Blythe on June 6, 1950, in Parkerville. Mary was a homemaker but after moving to Colorado worked for Cyclone in Longmont and Amy's Hallmark in Aurora. She was an active member of the White City, United Methodist Church. Mary taught vacation Bible school, helped with Methodist Youth Fellowship, and enjoyed ladies’ groups, including Sans Souci. She was supportive of her husband Junior (Benjamin Junior), who was the Mayor of White City, and she was often involved in his activities. 

Mary is survived by her children Bradley (Naren) Blythe of Commerce City, CO; Janice (George) Wilson of Kent, WA; and Barbara (Eric) Rademacher of Longmont, CO; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mary passed away at her home on Thursday September 22, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Junior (Benjamin Junior). 

Her family will gather with friends and family on Monday September 26, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the White City Cemetery for her graveside service led by Pastor Will Ravenstein.&nbsp;

Bonnie Lee Stark Rupp, 90, died September 23, 2022, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born August 10, 1932, in Virgil, to Leondius Irl and Patra Devela (Kerr) Abbey.

Bonnie worked for many years in restaurants and grocery stores in the communities in which she lived – Cunningham, Buhler/Inman, Hutchinson, and Pueblo, CO. Bonnie’s love language was giving and she expressed that through painting, baking (especially banana bread), and shopping for others. Bonnie especially loved spending time with family. She was of the Baptist faith.

On December 24, 1948, Bonnie married C. Harold Stark, in Cunningham. He died November 1, 1985. On August 22, 1987, she married Eugene Rupp in Pueblo, CO. He died February 7, 2009.

Bonnie is survived by: her children, Harold Stark (Theresa) of Cunningham, Earl Stark (Rebecca) of Buhler, Bill Stark (Debbie) of Derby, Bert Stark (Patti) of Moore, OK, Denise Hahn of Bentonville, AR; stepchildren, Joe, Mike, Kenny, Loretta, Cindy; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sisters, Lucille Klinginsmith, Hazel Crowell, Kathleen Bischof; and brother, Gene Abbey.

Marilyn Faye (Siemens) Krehbiel, 85, passed away September 23, 2022, with her family by her side.&nbsp; She was born November 27, 1936, in Hutchinson, the oldest child of the late Alvin and Marie (Friesen) Siemens.

Marilyn graduated from Buhler High School and Bethel Deaconess Hospital with her registered nursing degree.&nbsp; She worked as a registered nurse at Grace Hospital and Prairie Sunset Home.&nbsp; In addition, Marilyn volunteered at Hospice House and the Et Cetera Shop, Hutchinson. She loved to cook, sew, garden, and read. Marilyn treasured her faith, family and friendships. She was a devoted farmer’s wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

As a child, Marilyn was baptized at the Hebron Mennonite Church, Buhler.&nbsp; She was a member of First Mennonite Church, Pretty Prairie, and attended&nbsp;Journey@South&nbsp;Hutch.

On September 14, 1958, she married Alvin Dean Krehbiel.&nbsp; They shared 47 years of marriage before his death on November 6, 2005.

Marilyn is survived by: her children, Loren (Cindy) Krehbiel of Pretty Prairie, Dianne (Keith) Wiebe of Peabody, Royce (Cindy) Krehbiel of Pretty Prairie, and Tim (Yvonne) Krehbiel of Bern; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Vernabelle Stayrook (Kerm Gingerich) and Betsy (Larry) Buller; Alvin’s siblings, Janet Epp, Joan (Gary) Jost, MaryAnn (Hugo) Boschmann, Karen (Lynn) Kaufman; and brother-in-law, Clemon Kaufman.

Carolyn ‘Susie’ Sue McFarland, 77, passed away September 22, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born November 8, 1944, in Leesville, LA, to Zollie and Mary (Lane) Altes.

Susie graduated from Fort Smith Northside High School, Fort Smith, AR.&nbsp; She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson. On August 11, 1967, Susie married Roy E. McFarland, Jr., in Fort Smith, AR.&nbsp; They shared over 55 years of marriage.

Susie, along with her husband, were the persons responsible for the organization and operation of the Hutchinson Community Church Softball League.&nbsp; This organization provided leagues and tournaments in softball, basketball, volleyball, golf, and bowling, for the various churches in the Hutchinson area to participate.&nbsp; Susie could always be found working the concession stand at the City of South Hutchinson softball complex during the summer softball league.

Susie is survived by:&nbsp; her husband, Roy McFarland of Hutchinson, KS; children, Bob McFarland of Hutchinson, KS, Leslie (Jeff) Cardwell of Olathe, KS, Mark (Erin) McFarland of Hutchinson, KS, Jeff (Trish) McFarland of Halstead, KS, Melissa Dillon of Wichita, KS, and Meredith McFarland of Wichita, KS; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Penner, 77, of Buhler, KS, and formerly of Inman, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022, surrounded by family at Harry Hynes Hospice Center, Wichita.&nbsp; LaVern owned &amp; operated Penner’s Grain &amp; Distributing, a custom harvesting business.&nbsp; He then was an independent truck driver for many years.&nbsp;

LaVern was born on January 25, 1945, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Arnold C. and Hilda A. (Stucky) Penner.&nbsp; He graduated from Central Christian High School in Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; On April 2, 1965, LaVern was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Pauline Whitaker in Buhler, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Rodney and Raymond.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 57 years, Pat of the home; two sons, Rodney Penner (Sarah Orem) of Buhler, KS and Raymond Penner (Emilie) of Hutchinson, KS; a brother, Larry Penner (Jean) of Inman, KS; eight grandchildren, Rhett Penner (Stephanie), Saraya Johnson (Aaron), Hadyn Penner, Riggin Penner, Reval Penner, Dalton Orem, Marissa Orem, and Dakota Orem; seven great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

Donna was born on a farm in Butler County on June 16, 1933. Her parents were Hugh and Flossie Westervelt. Donna was the youngest of six children. The family later moved to town in Leon, KS where she attended school, was a cheerleader and graduated from Leon High School.

She worked several years at Beech Aircraft before going to work in the office at Conoco in Wichita. This is where she met her husband, Mel McAnulty. They were married August 31, 1962 in Hutchinson. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with all of the family present. They were the parents of four sons: Mark, Brett, Todd and Barry.

While raising their sons, Donna first worked as a secretary for Lloyd Smith, owner of S/V Tools and then later as an administrative assistant to Bob Bunting at Bunting Magnetics in Newton. Upon retirement on January 1, 1997, Mel and Donna enjoyed taking annual 6-week vacations for 12 years to San Diego, CA.

Donna was a very active mother and community volunteer over the years. She was in charge of the kitchen at First Presbyterian Church which provided many meals for the congregation and for special gatherings at the church. She organized and catered the annual Holiday Affair women’s luncheon for many years and always received accolades as to her ability to pull off this event. She also was in charge of the Gift Shop at the Presbyterian Manor in Newton and helped with the Apple Blossom Festival for many years. Donna was named Newton Woman of the Year in 2001 and was an active member of the local P.E.O. chapter.

Donna loved to entertain friends and family. She was noted for the outstanding meals she provided at their annual Memorial Day brunch at their home for approximately 20 years, hosting an average of 50-60 guests. Donna will be missed by all.

Survivors include: husband, Mel McAnulty of the home, son, Mark (Cindy) McAnulty of Newton, daughter-in-law, Karen of Newton, son, Todd (Penny) McAnulty of Newton, son Barry (Janene) McAnulty of Lee’s Summit, MO, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her son, Brett, her parents and siblings Ralph, Leona, Don, Jim, and Ina Mae.

A celebration of life will be at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton on Friday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m.

Randy Lee Branton, 63, passed away September 21, 2022, in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born September 11, 1959, in Hutchinson, to Francis and Norma (Claypole) Branton. 

Randy enjoyed the outdoors, collecting and throwing knives and spending time with his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his daughters, Ashlea Smith, Stephai Drake and Amy Fredrick; 11 grandchildren, Ashton Smith, Joe, Ian, Chauncey and Ryder Drake, Emily, Olivia, Lillona and Ezra Fredrick, Draven Branton and Ethan Hartman and mother in law, Barbara Hanson. Elaine Maxine (Engel) Guimond 93, of White City, Kansas passed away on September 20, 2022, at the Morris County Hospital. She was born on October 5, 1928, to Louis and Marie (Hickey) Engel on the family farm in rural Herington. 

Elaine attended File Elementary Country school. Later in life she worked as a nurse’s aide at the old Junction City Hospital. Elaine married Richard Guimond Sr. in Whitman Massachusetts on March 23, 1953. Richard was in the United States Airforce. To this union was born three sons: Richard Jr., Garry, and Mark. During her years growing up Elaine helped on the family farm working in the fields and helping with gardening. 

After returning to White City, she worked at the local grocery store Vernon Rose Market and then Perry Moore’s Market until she retired. Elaine loved animals of all kinds, she enjoyed the outdoors, visiting with friends, and being with family. Elaine’s birth mother passed away and Louis married Margret (Christman) of Topeka who helped raise Elaine and her siblings. Later she gained three brothers and two sisters from that union. Elaine was a member of the Parkerville Baptist Church and White City Chapter #421 Order of the Eastern Star of Kansas.

Patricia “Pat” Smith was born to Katherine (Salzer) Corber and Alva “Bill” Corber near Waverly, August 8th, 1932. She was the youngest of three siblings, with two older brothers, Robert “Jack” and Billy Corber. 

The Great Depression forced the family to move to the country outside of Topeka where her Father farmed with a large workhorse named Rex and her mother gardened and canned. Pat and her brothers attended a one room schoolhouse and studied by oil lamp. Pat would recall that she had a good family because they all helped each other out during the hard times of the Great Depression. Their farmhouse burned down, so the family moved to Topeka where her father worked as a Plumber.

As there was little money for new clothes, Pat learned to sew. Her Hungarian born Grandfather Stephen was a tailor, and she enjoyed visiting him at the shop he worked at in Topeka while she was on her way home from school. Her Grandmother Mary was trained in Hungary as a Chef, and she had fond memories of meals she shared with her Grandparents.

Pat attended Topeka High School and spent 2 years at Washburn University before having to discontinue her schooling due to lack of funding. After leaving college, Pat worked various jobs before marrying and raising six children. Pat’s own family knew her as a fine seamstress and excellent cook. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning, and ran a little vegetable stand off her front porch for many years. Pat was also an animal lover and sheltered many beloved cats and dogs over her lifetime.

Pat had unwavering devotion to her family, and she was someone her family could count on through good times and bad. Pat was tough, enduring the loss of two children and multiple bouts with cancer. Overall, Pat felt like she had a good life and made it her work to raise her family in the best possible way given her blue-collar resources. We will miss her terribly but are grateful for the 90 years she had on this earth and the lessons she taught us. Pat died at home with family by her side.

She is survived by her children: Terry Smith; David Scott; Matt (Beth) Smith; Vicki (John) Daniel and Lorraine Leaf; brothers: Billy Gene Corber; Robert Jack Corber. There are also numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and one Great Great Grandchild.

We will miss her terribly but are grateful for the 90 years she had on this earth and the lessons she taught us. Catherine E. “Cay” Siebert, 92, passed away on September 16, 2022, at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton.

She was born on June 1, 1930, in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Earl and Florence (Cressman) Snyder. Catherine would attend and graduate from Guelph High School.

Following high school graduation Cay began teacher’s college. She would receive her bachelors degree in elementry education from Goshen College and her masters degree in religious education from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary.

During her time in seminary, Cay would meet Roger Dale Siebert, and on September 1, 1961, the couple would be united in marriage. For many years and in many states, she accompanied Roger through four pastorates – three years in Inman, six years in Bedminster, PA, nine years in Pandora, OH, and five years in Hillsboro.

Following Roger’s sudden death in 1986, Cay started a new chapter of her life and began working at Meadowlark Mental Health Residential Facility as a mental health worker, a job she enjoyed and would retire from.

Cay had a gentle, loving, and caring heart. The later years of her life were devoted to volunteering with the Compeer program and at the local homeless shelter. She also volunteered helping those who were afflicted by domestic violence. She was active in the Church Women United and AAUW organizations in Newton. She co-chaired a yearly mental health retreat.

Cay is survived by her children, David Siebert and Ruth (Steve) Meyer; grandchildren, John Roger Bertsche, Benjamin Meyer, Stephany Meyer, and Nevin Siebert; great-grandchildren, Teydren and Kyla Bertsche; nieces and nephews, Steve Rempel, Debbie Rempel, Nancy Rempel, Lorne Loganbill, Jerry Loganbill, Carol Logan, Mark Reusser, Kristin Penner, and John Reusser.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Rev. Roger D. Siebert; parents, Earl and Florence Snyder; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Jim Reusser; sister-in-laws, Franny Remple and Elaine Loganbill; brother-in-law, Don Siebert; and nephews, Mike and Bruce Remple.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton. A graveside service will be later at 2:00 p.m. at Haven of Rest in Hillsboro. Visitation will be the evening prior on Friday, September 23, from 5 – 9 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.

Wyatt Kent Sweeten of Maize, was carried in the arms of Jesus to his heavenly home on September 12, 2022. He was an excelling Fifth grader at Vermillion Elementary in Maize.&nbsp; With a great love for outdoors, you would find him barefoot, throwing a football, riding his bike or with his family fishing. You would find him having fun as an innocent prankster who enjoyed scaring his mom, dad or family by jumping out at them unexpectantly. When no outside he would be playing Fort Nite or other video games. He truly loved being with his family and was a joy to hang out with in whatever activity was chosen.

Family members that arrived heaven before Wyatt are his sister Zanna-Lynn Sweeten, his Nana Kristine Guldner, great grandparents Paul &amp; Sandra Guldner and Kent Williams, and great uncle Jesse Guldner.

Wyatt is survived by his parents Nick and Heather Sweeten; siblings Paisceince Permenter, Zac Sweeten, Zayden Sweeten, Prestyn Sweeten and Bella Sweeten; grandparents Paul &amp; Rita Guldner, Bob &amp; Lynn Sweeten and Linda &amp; Randy Higgins; great grandmothers Judy Barnes and Ann Williams; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other family, classmates, teachers and friends.

His love of life and always helping others, Wyatt was a great gift of love to his family and anyone he was around. He gave the gift of life from his heart and eyes to continue blessing others so they could see and love others. His gift was accepted by four people.
