Shelly Reene Robles, 45, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Comanche County Hospital. She was born on December 30, 1976 in Pratt to John L and Bonita "Bonnie" (Bishop) Rojas. Shelly married Victor Alejandro "Alex" Robles on December 14, 2019 in Protection. They were married for 2 years. Shelly worked for at Wal-Mart as a cashier. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, relaxing and enjoying her television shows, collecting seashells and spending time with family, dogs and those she loved. She is survived by her husband, Alex; father, John Rojas of Pratt; brother, Wes Brown of Austin, Texas; nieces, Trinity, Cherith and Alethea Brown; step-sister, Anita Rojas of Pratt; and many other nieces, nephews and relatives. Bonnie Kay Haile, 81, of Sterling, passed away July 30, 2022, at the Sterling Village, Sterling. She was born January 25, 1941, in Rice County, the daughter of Benjamin and Evelyn Mills Morley. 

Bonnie was a lifetime Rice County resident. She graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1959. Bonnie was a housewife, secretary for Haile’s Dirt Construction in Sterling, and was a clerk for Lantz Clothing Store in Lyons. She was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Sterling, and was a board member at the Coronado Quivira Museum in Lyons. Bonnie enjoyed refinishing furniture in her spare time. 

On May 12, 1960, Bonnie was united in marriage with Guy “Fuzz” Haile in Sterling. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Nellie Haile of Park City; sister-in-law, Doris Morley of PA; five grandchildren, Ashley Tanner and husband Jed, Erin Haile, Jeremiah Haile, Zechariah Haile, and Gracie Haile and fiancé Levi Maxson; two great-grandchildren; Delanie Ann Haile and Gavin Boele; nephew, Billy White; niece, Pamela Shaud and husband Kevin; and adopted daughter, Patty Wagerle and husband John of Sterling. Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; grandmother, Elsie Mills; two sons, Phillip and Jerry Haile; brother, Leland Morley; and sister, Wynona White.

Gerald Julius “Jerry” Konen, 96, of Little River, passed away July 28, 2022, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River. He was born June 21, 1926, in Piqua, the son of Bernard H. “Ben” and Julia J. (Ulrich) Konen. 

Jerry has resided in Little River since 1962, formerly of Hugoton and Piqua, Kansas. He served in the United States Army during World War II from December 11, 1944, until August 21, 1946. Jerry retired from Santa Fe Railroad as a depot agent telegrapher after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Little River, where he served as sacristan, Eucharistic minister, church treasurer, PSR teacher, altar boy, and altar boy trainer. Jerry was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #7422 of Lyons, member of the Sandstone Heights building committee, and former mayor and judge of the City of Little River. 

On January 3, 1949, Jerry was united in marriage with Dorothy Westerman in Piqua. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his four sons, Michael Konen and wife Debbie of Little River; Mark Konen and wife Mary of Little River; Steven Konen and wife Kathy of Clearwater; and Gregory Konen and wife Carrie of Edmond, OK; three daughters, Julita Konen of Little River; Mary Ramage and husband Rex of Collinsville, OK; and Brenda Wright and husband Brian of Little River; thirty-one grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Konen; sister, Mary Frances Thummel; and great-granddaughter, Hazel Ramage. 

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 1, 2022, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Little River, with Father Aaron Spexarth and Father Edmond Kline officiating. A longtime Enid, Oklahoma, resident, previously of Pretty Prairie, Edwin was a life-time railroader beginning with the Santa Fe.&nbsp; He also railroaded with the Rock Island, MKT, OKT railroads and retired in 1993 with the Union Pacific Railroad.&nbsp; Upon retirement, he volunteered for the railroad museum in Enid.&nbsp;

On December 31, 1953, he married Carolyn McCubbin.&nbsp; She preceded him in death January 23, 2017.&nbsp; Edwin is survived by his sons Buck (Denise), Hutchinson, and Chad (Kristin), Broken Arrow; five grandchildren and their spouses Brett and Diana Wiard, Mindy and Justin Tankersley, Chelsea and Jeramy Pappas, Katrina and Vadim Narudsky and MacKenzie and Matt Thorne; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Stucky.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife, sister Evelyn Pettay and brother, Darwin Wiard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Manuel; son, Antonio Gomez; a grandson, Alan Antonio Gomez; and numerous brothers and sisters. Dudley Owen Burgess, 75, of Hutchinson, died July 26, 2022, at Hospice House in Hutchinson, after a long struggle with prostate cancer. He was born January 22, 1947, in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, to Lawrence Burgess and Dorothy (Ellis) Burgess.

Within days of his birth, his parents relocated to Topeka and eventually to Hutchinson, where he built the R-B Drive-In Restaurant located at A &amp; Poplar. Dudley spent his early childhood playing and fishing on the banks of the Cow Creek, located behind the restaurant. Fishing remained his only hobby for the rest of his life.

Dudley graduated from Hutchinson High School with the class of 1965.

In 1967, he married Karen Kay Poulton. To them one son was born, Darin Owen Burgess.

Dudley went to work as a salesman, working for several car dealerships in Hutchinson. After selling his first car within hours of being hired, the dealership manager stated that he was “a born salesman, who could sell ice cubes to an Eskimo”.

In the early 1980's Dudley attained his license to sell real estate, which led to him building and selling speculation homes. He led a full life, that always led back to fishing. Toward the end of his life he had special fishing buddies that assisted him in getting to the lakes. These friends were: Earl Barnes, Dick Swisher, Gary Vincent, and Larry Montandon. He really appreciated those buddies.

Dudley was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bradley Burgess.

He is survived by: his wife, Karen, Hutchinson; son, Darin, South Hutchinson; sister, Pam Wheeler (Charles),Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Nancy Lane and Sharon Sue Poulton, both of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Per Dudley's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Paul Arthur Friesen, age 98, died May 30, 2022 at the Schowalter Villa in Hesston.&nbsp; He was born September 10, 1923 at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton; the 9th child and 5th son of Peter Abram Friesen and the first child of the union of Peter Abram Friesen and Florence Cooprider Friesen.&nbsp; 

He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Wenger Friesen and by 4 half sisters, 4 half brothers, one sister, a son in law Stanley Roth, and daughters in law Jane Friesen and Kathleen Friesen.&nbsp; Survivors include his children;&nbsp; Kelvin Friesen (Karen) of Archbold, OH; Janice Roth West (Tom) of Wichita; Eric (Wanda) of Cimarron; Gregg (Joanna) of Newton; Jon (Kristeen) of North Newton; Jennifer LeFevre (Dennis) of Woodland Park, CO, along with 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.&nbsp;

At age 3 months Paul traveled with his family by ship from New York to Bombay, India and from there by train to Central India where his parents served as missionaries with the Mennonite Church; his mother a physician and his father an evangelist.&nbsp; His early years were spent playing with his younger sister (Grace) and children from the village of Sankra in the Central Provinces where the family lived.&nbsp; At age 5 he began school in Landoor (U.P India) at Woodstock School in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains.&nbsp; He recalled being capable of speaking in English, Hindi (including the local Chitisgarri dialect from where he grew up), and Urdu.&nbsp; While he initially dreaded boarding school, it was that setting that gave him a peer group with diverse interests and, up to his death, he retained a fondness for the school and its mountainous setting. &nbsp; In the early 30’s the family returned to the states for two years with one year in Iowa and one in Chicago.&nbsp; In the end, the return to India was a welcome relief. &nbsp; His time in India left Paul with a bounty of stories of snakes, leopards, tigers, and long travels by bike or train.&nbsp; It was not unusual for him to bike 30 to 40 miles on dusty roads to visit friends, hike in the mountains, or to swim in the headwaters of the Ganges.&nbsp; It was perhaps that setting and those experiences that led him to develop an ability to delight others with stories that held the attention of his children and others.&nbsp; The family returned to the states in 1941.

Once back in the United States, Paul attended Hesston Academy and College where he met Wilma Wenger of Wellman, IA.&nbsp; They were married after he graduated from Goshen College where he completed a Bachelors of Theology degree.&nbsp; Together he and Wilma worked in church planting in Highway Village, IL and Sterling, IL where their first two children were born.&nbsp; A call from Hesston College led to a career change when the college recruited Paul to develop an art program for the college.&nbsp; That prompted further education and an eventual MFA from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; His teaching career included work at both Bethel and Hesston Colleges where he focused on ceramics and sculpture.&nbsp; He continued to preach and through his life worked in various roles within the church.&nbsp; His sermons were remembered as much for their stories as for their theological content. &nbsp; Paul saw himself first as a pastor and his art work often embodied elements of his faith. Following retirement Paul worked in his studio doing ceramics and working with both wood and stone to create works of art.&nbsp; His final commissioned sculpture piece was completed in his 97th year and his final work of ceramics, a burial urn for a close college friend, at age 98.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In addition to his family, Paul’s passions included teaching, gardening, a love of Indian food, and travel.&nbsp; With his family of six children he and Wilma camped from Idaho to Virginia.&nbsp; He instilled in his children a cooperative and congenial sense of family that continues to this day.&nbsp; Paul was passionate about life.&nbsp; While his legacy includes a wealth of art work, both publicly and privately held, his greatest legacy lives in the lives of his family and in the students he taught and mentored over a long and productive life.&nbsp; This world, it can be said, is a better place because of him.&nbsp; Interment will be at Eastlawn Cemetery in rural Harvey County.&nbsp; Services at the Hesston Mennonite Church will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022.&nbsp;

Paul Arthur Friesen, age 98, died May 30, 2022 at the Schowalter Villa in Hesston.&nbsp; He was born September 10, 1923 at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton; the 9th child and 5th son of Peter Abram Friesen and the first child of the union of Peter Abram Friesen and Florence Cooprider Friesen.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Wenger Friesen and by 4 half sisters, 4 half brothers, one sister, a son in law Stanley Roth, and daughters in law Jane Friesen and Kathleen Friesen.&nbsp; Survivors include his children;&nbsp; Kelvin Friesen (Karen) of Archbold, OH; Janice Roth West (Tom) of Wichita; Eric (Wanda) of Cimarron; Gregg (Joanna) of Newton; Jon (Kristeen) of North Newton; Jennifer LeFevre (Dennis) of Woodland Park, CO, along with 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.&nbsp;At age 3 months Paul traveled with his family by ship from New York to Bombay, India and from there by train to Central India where his parents served as missionaries with the Mennonite Church; his mother a physician and his father an evangelist.&nbsp; His early years were spent playing with his younger sister (Grace) and children from the village of Sankra in the Central Provinces where the family lived.&nbsp; At age 5 he began school in Landoor (U.P India) at Woodstock School in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains.&nbsp; He recalled being capable of speaking in English, Hindi (including the local Chitisgarri dialect from where he grew up), and Urdu.&nbsp; While he initially dreaded boarding school, it was that setting that gave him a peer group with diverse interests and, up to his death, he retained a fondness for the school and its mountainous setting. &nbsp; In the early 30’s the family returned to the states for two years with one year in Iowa and one in Chicago.&nbsp; In the end, the return to India was a welcome relief. &nbsp; His time in India left Paul with a bounty of stories of snakes, leopards, tigers, and long travels by bike or train.&nbsp; It was not unusual for him to bike 30 to 40 miles on dusty roads to visit friends, hike in the mountains, or to swim in the headwaters of the Ganges.&nbsp; It was perhaps that setting and those experiences that led him to develop an ability to delight others with stories that held the attention of his children and others.&nbsp; The family returned to the states in 1941.Once back in the United States, Paul attended Hesston Academy and College where he met Wilma Wenger of Wellman, IA.&nbsp; They were married after he graduated from Goshen College where he completed a Bachelors of Theology degree.&nbsp; Together he and Wilma worked in church planting in Highway Village, IL and Sterling, IL where their first two children were born.&nbsp; A call from Hesston College led to a career change when the college recruited Paul to develop an art program for the college.&nbsp; That prompted further education and an eventual MFA from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; His teaching career included work at both Bethel and Hesston Colleges where he focused on ceramics and sculpture.&nbsp; He continued to preach and through his life worked in various roles within the church.&nbsp; His sermons were remembered as much for their stories as for their theological content. &nbsp; Paul saw himself first as a pastor and his art work often embodied elements of his faith. Following retirement Paul worked in his studio doing ceramics and working with both wood and stone to create works of art.&nbsp; His final commissioned sculpture piece was completed in his 97th year and his final work of ceramics, a burial urn for a close college friend, at age 98.&nbsp;&nbsp;In addition to his family, Paul’s passions included teaching, gardening, a love of Indian food, and travel.&nbsp; With his family of six children he and Wilma camped from Idaho to Virginia.&nbsp; He instilled in his children a cooperative and congenial sense of family that continues to this day.&nbsp; Paul was passionate about life.&nbsp; While his legacy includes a wealth of art work, both publicly and privately held, his greatest legacy lives in the lives of his family and in the students he taught and mentored over a long and productive life.&nbsp; This world, it can be said, is a better place because of him.&nbsp; Interment will be at Eastlawn Cemetery in rural Harvey County.&nbsp; Services at the Hesston Mennonite Church will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022.&nbsp;

Dorothy Ann Gregory, 93, of Buhler, passed away on July 29, 2022. She was born July 15, 1929 in Stapp, Oklahoma, the daughter of Rosser A. and Jettie I. (Wood) Scott.

Dorothy graduated from Broken Arrow (Oklahoma) High School with the class of 1946. In 1950, she graduated from Northeastern State College, Tahlequah, OK with a bachelor’s degree in Business Education.

She was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church and a past member of the Evening Star Quilt Guild in Hutchinson.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Marcus Leon Gregory on November 22, 1950 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2009.

Dorothy taught school in Oklahoma and also at Daisy School near Yoder, in the early 1950s. She and Leon founded Gregory, Incorporated in 1956, where she worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for 64 years. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, organic gardening, reading, and cooking and she gave generously of her time, talents, and treasure to her church, family, and numerous charitable organizations.

She is survived by her sons: Timothy Gregory and wife Donna of Nixa, MO; Jonathan Gregory of Lincoln, NE; and David Gregory and wife Beth of Cornelius, NC; a daughter, Sarah Kuykendall and husband Todd of Enid, OK; daughter-in-law, Valerie Gregory of Buhler; eight granddaughters: Leah Yoder and husband Greg of Burbank, CA; Lindsay Butler and husband David of Scarborough, ME; Claire Bowling and husband Jacob of St. Louis, MO; Andrea Gregory of St. Louis, MO; Joanna Gregory of Springfield, MO; Abigail Gregory of Cornelius, NC; Grace Gregory of Greenville, SC; and McKayla Bishop and husband Payton of Piedmont, OK; four grandsons, Andrew Gregory of Hutchinson; Aaron Gregory and wife Morgan of Springfield, MO; Jedidiah Gregory of Charlotte, NC; and Christopher Kuykendall and wife Morgan of Cashion, OK; twelve great-grandchildren: Gavriel and Lily Yoder; Vienna, Oliver, and Cora Butler; Asher and Aiden Gregory; Ella, Everett, Ezra, and Eli Kuykendall; and Max Bishop; and several nieces and nephews.

Wayne Roger Neufeld, 70, of Buhler, KS, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kansas after a courageous fight with Cancer and Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born September 19, 1951 in Hutchinson, KS the son of Wilbur John Neufeld and Rachel Ann (Esau) Neufeld. He grew up in Buhler, KS, graduating from Buhler High School with the class of 1969. Wayne attended Emporia State Teacher’s College (Music Education) and Hutchinson Community College (Associate Degree in Business Management).

While attending college in Emporia he met his future wife, Pamela. On July 3, 1971, Wayne was united in marriage to Pamela J. Cezar of Dwight, KS. They shared 51 years of loving marriage.

Wayne worked for Jackson Ice Cream for 31 years beginning as a truck driver and working his way up to management. He then worked for Peel’s Beauty Supply and Reno County Education Cooperative (Buhler Schools).

Wayne enjoyed reading, singing, playing golf, spending time with his family. He was undefeated in the family games of Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble. He was a faithful Christian and spent many years as a youth Bible school leader.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Neufeld; mother, Rachel (Esau) Neufeld; and sister, Jane Neufeld.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Neufeld (Buhler, KS); son, Kelly Neufeld and wife Stacy (Baldwin City, KS); son, Corey Neufeld and wife Michelle (Manhattan, KS); daughter, Kasey Noggle and husband Monty (Inman, KS); grandchildren, Madeline Neufeld (Baldwin City,KS), Karly Neufeld (Baldwin City, KS), Chloe Neufeld (Baldwin City, KS), Alissa Torres and husband Leo (Manhattan, KS), Kelsey Neufeld (Oklahoma City, OK), Kolby Noggle (Inman, KS), Karter Noggle (Inman, KS), Kamilyn Noggle (Inman, KS); sister, Lindy Hildebrandt (Hutchinson KS); and father-in-Law, William “Doc” Cezar (Dwight, KS).

Dean Wesley Alstatt, 88, passed away July 28, 2022, at Diversicare of Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born July 20, 1934, in Marquette, KS, to Herman O. and Gertrude (Burnison) Alstatt.&nbsp; At the age of three months, Dean’s mother passed way.&nbsp; His father married Florine Harris on October 29, 1938, and she became the only ‘mother’ that Dean would ever know.

He was a graduate of Marquette High School, Marquette, KS, and served in the United States Army.&nbsp; Dean worked as a lineman, an installer, and a repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone, that later became AT&amp;T Telecommunications Company.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, Hutchinson, KS, the Pioneer Telephone Group, and Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.

Dean married Shirley M. Snell.&nbsp; She died December 23, 2000.&nbsp; On September 24, 2005, he married Judy R. Holmes-Cape, at the Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.

She was born on February 3, 1928 in Elm Mills Township, Barber County, the daughter of Chris Frederick Haas and Katie Elizabeth (McBeth) Haas. On May 17, 1946, Mary Jane married George E. Catlin, Sr. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1995. Mary Jane was a graduate of Sharon High School. She was a farmer/rancher and housewife. Surviving are two sons, George E. Catlin, Jr., of Medicine Lodge, and Gary L. (Becky M.) In Loving Memory of Donna Diane Downing Duntz, 75, of Geneseo, passed away July 27, 2022, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born April 11, 1947, in Bucyrus, Ohio, the daughter of Richard James Downing Sr. and Martha Elizabeth Karns Downing. 

Donna was raised in Eaton, Ohio before moving to Geneseo, in December of 2017. She enjoyed singing karaoke and playing bingo. Donna was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Donna was very loved and will be dearly missed by all. 

She is survived by her children, Shawn Renee Cressell, Shannon Lynn Graff, Dawn Angela Peters, Harold Allen Moran Jr. and Brandi Nicole Bloodworth; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins. Donna is preceded in death by her parents; and four siblings, Richard James Downing Jr., Louie Downing, Robert Daryl Downing and Terrance Joseph Downing.

Donna was raised in Eaton, Ohio before moving to Geneseo, in December of 2017. She enjoyed singing karaoke and playing bingo. Donna was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Donna was very loved and will be dearly missed by all. She is survived by her children, Shawn Renee Cressell, Shannon Lynn Graff, Dawn Angela Peters, Harold Allen Moran Jr. and Brandi Nicole Bloodworth; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins. Donna is preceded in death by her parents; and four siblings, Richard James Downing Jr., Louie Downing, Robert Daryl Downing and Terrance Joseph Downing. Penny L. Wood, 74, died July 24, 2022 at her home in Kingman.

She was born Feb. 8, 1948, at Wichita the daughter of Donald and Maxine Brasfield Augden.&nbsp; A lifetime resident of the Kingman community, she was a retired school psychologist for the South Central Special Education CO-OP.

Penny was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Kingman County Historical Society, the Kingman City Parks Board; former member of the Kingman Carnegie Library, Kingman Community Hospital and Horizons Mental Health boards.

On Dec. 26, 1967, she married Mike Wood at Kingman.&nbsp; Other survivors include two sons Kelly and his wife Andrea, and Brent and his wife Jenny; sisters Pud Shields and Cindy Evans; sisters-in-law Martha Ann “Baby” Jones and Susan Wood Moore; and grandchildren Laney Joan, Dawson, Hayden and Ethan.

Bonnie Mae Bailey, 74, of Medicine Lodge, passed away Wednesday, July 27th at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 2, 1947 in Dodge City, the daughter of Kenneth and Jeanne (Sinclair) Cowles. 

Bonnie married Bill Bailey on July 30, 1966 in Jetmore. Bonnie was a 1965 graduate of Jetmore High School, Jetmore, and attended Salt City Business School in Hutchinson. Bonnie and Bill moved to Medicine Lodge, in 1973. While her children were growing up, you would find her at every sporting event, every rodeo event, and at the sale barn looking for that prize goat! For years, Bonnie and Bill owned the Gyp Hills Lounge and Motel (where Martina McBride got her start). Bonnie later became a job coach at Arrow Head West.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Kenny and Jeanne, her in-laws, Chet and Alice Bailey, and brother-in-law John Bailey. She leaves behind her pride and joy – her family. Surviving are her husband, William “Bill” Arthur Bailey of the home; three sons, Justin (Lori) Bailey of Sawyer; Dustin (Mitzi) Bailey of Kingman; and Landon (Lacie) Bailey of Gultry, OK; four grandchildren, Montana Shae, Rilee Swink, Dakota Weippert, and Blazi Weippert; two great-grandchildren, Skylyn and Eli; one sister, Kathy (Bill) Hixon of Tahlequah, OK; sister-in-law, Brenda (Bailey) Gassen; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jack Franklyn Reffner was born on July 30, 1941 in Wichita, to Charles Fred Reffner and Dorothy (Kehl) Reffner.&nbsp; Jack passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at the Kansas Veterans‘ Home in Winfield, Kansas. He was a rural Valley Center resident for most all of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Dorothy. Jack is survived by his sister, Vickie Kingsbury (Bill) of Wichita; nephew, David Kingsbury (Zandra) of Ohio, and great nephew, Ryan Kingsbury of Ohio; many other family and friends.&nbsp;

His education began in a one room schoolhouse in Harvey County, Kansas called Centennial. Soon his family moved to Valley Center after Grandma Kehl passed away. Jack attended Valley Center schools, graduating from Valley Center High School, as valedictorian in 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jack earned a B.S degree in mathematics at K-State University, 2 degrees at Wichita State University,&nbsp;B.B.A. degree in Economics and&nbsp;B.B.A. Degree in accounting.&nbsp; He was a member of the AKL Fraternity.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On July 1, 1964,&nbsp; he joined and served in the United States Air Force.&nbsp; He was a ICBM Missile Launch Officer at Grand Forks AFB, Grand Forks, ND. He was a captain at the time of his honorable discharge effective August 1, 1968.

Jack began his career employed in 1972 by Beech Aircraft as a scientific programmer, Boeing Military Airplanes as a software engineer and Bombardier Aerospace as a software programmer until retirement in 2001.

He was a member of MENSA International, American Legion, and Sons of the American Revolution.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jack took pride in being raised on the farm and the heritage of his family roots in this area.

A Graveside service was held with the family on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the Kechi Township Cemetery, 6523 N. Hillside, Wichita.&nbsp; &nbsp;A Celebration Life Service will be held at Faith Church with military honors, time and date to be determined.

Renae Colle, 90, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born February 16, 1932, in Lyons, to John and Joanna (Gaw) Bailey.

Renae graduated from Lyons High School as salutatorian.&nbsp; She received her teaching certificate from Emporia State Teachers College and completed her bachelor’s in education from Sterling College. Renae received a master’s degree in adult and continuing education from Kansas State University.&nbsp; She taught at Nickerson Elementary School, primarily 4th grade, for 29 years.&nbsp; She touched the lives of over 600 students. &nbsp;After retiring, she worked as a paraprofessional for several years until memory concerns became more pronounced.

She was an active member of Midland United Church of Christ, rural Sterling.&nbsp; She was involved as a community and project leader in 4-H for the Midland Lucky Clovers and Nickerson Clovers 4-H clubs.&nbsp; Renae was a lifelong avid reader and encouraged education.&nbsp; She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Society, Delta Sigma Epsilon Sorority, and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star-Queen Esther Chapter 32.&nbsp; While at Emporia State, she was a member of the Marching Band and was an accomplished pianist and vocalist.

Renae married Loren Anthony Colle of rural Sterling, on June 1, 1952, in Lyons. They were married for 70 years. She was proud of being a farm wife helping with the multitude of demands of the farm.&nbsp; Renae loved animals, including two pet raccoons, and rescued an orphan lamb, “Fleece.” As much as she loved teaching, family always came first with Renae.

She is survived by: loving husband, Loren of rural Sterling; daughter, Dr. Linda Colle Gerrond (Dr. David) Robbins of Weatherby, MO; sons, Lance (Brenda) Colle and John (Cindy) Colle, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Erica and Ethan Gerrond, Addie (Chris) Coss, Ben (Bridget) Colle, and Kevin and Kaitlin Colle; and great-grandchildren, Kadin Colle, Blaine Ybarra, Olivia Coss, and James, Stasia, Beckett and Mahaleigh Colle.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and a brother, Roy.

Eugene “Gene” Richard Toews, 87, of Moundridge, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.&nbsp; He was born March 27, 1935 in Langdon, North Dakota, the son of Abram P. and Prisilla (Wiebe) Toews.

Gene was a member of the Grafton Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in Grafton, North Dakota.

He was united in marriage to Joyce Katherine Schmidt on December 1, 1957 at Grace Mennonite Church in Halstead.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on December 25, 2021.

Gene worked at Big Chief Manufacturing in Hutchinson, later working for Hesston Corporation and Skyline Manufacturing in Halstead.

He is survived by his four sons, Gary (Elda Mae) Toews of Burns, Randy (Bonnie) Toews of Livingston, CO; Bruce (Susan) Toews of Pisek, ND; and Travis (Juliann) Toews of Grifton, NC; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lorne Toews of Grafton, ND, Jim Toews of Ithaca, MI, and Larry Toews of Park River, ND; and three sisters, Norma Reimer of Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada, Linda Toews of Altona, Manitoba, Canada, and Janet Toews of Grafton, ND.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; and brother, Burton Toews.

Eugene “Gene” Richard Toews, 87, of Moundridge, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.&nbsp; He was born March 27, 1935 in Langdon, North Dakota, the son of Abram P. and Prisilla (Wiebe) Toews.Gene was a member of the Grafton Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in Grafton, North Dakota.He was united in marriage to Joyce Katherine Schmidt on December 1, 1957 at Grace Mennonite Church in Halstead.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on December 25, 2021.Gene worked at Big Chief Manufacturing in Hutchinson, later working for Hesston Corporation and Skyline Manufacturing in Halstead.He is survived by his four sons, Gary (Elda Mae) Toews of Burns, Randy (Bonnie) Toews of Livingston, CO; Bruce (Susan) Toews of Pisek, ND; and Travis (Juliann) Toews of Grifton, NC; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lorne Toews of Grafton, ND, Jim Toews of Ithaca, MI, and Larry Toews of Park River, ND; and three sisters, Norma Reimer of Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada, Linda Toews of Altona, Manitoba, Canada, and Janet Toews of Grafton, ND.Gene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; and brother, Burton Toews.Funeral services will be held at Grafton Mennonite Church, Grafton, North Dakota. Arthur (Art) Kenneth Dick, 102, died July 26, 2022, at Sunshine
Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. He was born to Dietrich H. and
Justina (Martens) Dick on March 2, 1920 in Buhler. He was a 1938 graduate
of Buhler High School. He was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. 
 
On June 15, 1941, he married Eva Gladys Siebert at the First Mennonite Church,
Hutchinson. Art and Eva celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in June of 2011
with family and friends. Eva passed away later that year on October 23, 2011.

Art is survived by a daughter, Deborah Cramer
(Wally Maya) Westlake, TX; two sons, Thomas Dick (Julie), Aurora, CO and David
Dick (Patty) Buhler; six grandchildren, Brian Dick (Paige), and children
Brendan, Tommy and Elin; Eric Dick (CC) and children Emily and George; Susan
Philbin (Nick) and children Caroline, Alice, and Meredith; Rachel Myers (Andy)
and children Ezekiel, Eden and Lydia; Rebecca Neville (Cody) and children Josie
and Barrett; and Gabriel Dick. 
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Richard Dick and his
wife Dorothy. 
Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Buhler Mortuary, with
the family in attendance. Graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday,
August 1, at Buhler Municipal Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00
a.m. at Buhler Mennonite Church (220 W. Ave. B).

Waneta Fern Schrag Showalter, 96, passed away July 23, 2022, at Paramount Community Living and Rehab, Newton.&nbsp; She was born July 31, 1925, in Hesston, to Roy Calvin and Rosa Ann (Landis) Hackenberg.

Waneta was a 1943 graduate of Halstead High School, Halstead.&nbsp; She was also a graduate of Adela Hale Business College, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Waneta was employed as a tax clerk in the Reno County Treasurer’s Office, retiring with many years of service.&nbsp; She attended the Burrton Mennonite Church, Burrton.

Waneta was a farm wife in her early years and enjoyed raising chickens and taking care of her flower garden.&nbsp; She was a member of the Hutchinson Sweet Adelines.

On November 6, 1943, Waneta married Willard N. Schrag.&nbsp; He passed away in 1979.&nbsp; Waneta then married Wayne Showalter on February 8, 1986.&nbsp; He passed away in 1996.

She is survived by:&nbsp; her daughters, Rita Franz of Newton, and Joyce Schnabel of Hutchinson; twelve grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Susie Schrag of Inman; sisters-in-law, Marlene Barton of Hutchinson, and Marilyn Schrag of Burrton; brother-in-law, Clifford Dick of Hutchinson; and special friend, Marcella Becker.

Waneta was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husbands, Willard N. Schrag and Wayne Showalter; and sons, John Schrag, Bill Schrag, and Steven Schrag.

Della Bennett, 66, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 with her family by her side in Wichita.

She was born in Wichita, Kansas to Lester Wright and Ardyce (Coble) Wright. She grew up in Valley Center and later became a life long resident of Wichita.

Della graduated from Valley Center High School in 1974. She went on to attend some business classes. As a young lady, she participated in Rainbows. After graduation, Della married Richard Kuhlman and had 4 children. Della was a believer in Christ and raised her family in the faith. They attended College Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed being a stay at home mom and later went to work at McCormick-Armstrong. Della then married Cranford Bennett where she gained 3 stepchildren. They were members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Della was a very caring person. She loved crafting, reading, baking, gardening, camping, and traveling. She loved making Halloween costumes and Christmas candy with her children and grandchildren. She relaxed by reading her Danielle Steel books and tending to her beautiful flower gardens. Della loved being outside going on long walks, camping with family and friends and traveling to see the great outdoors. She had many adventures in hot air ballooning, traveling to places like Cabo San Lucas, whitewater rafting in Colorado and enjoying the mountains.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Ardyce Wright, her son, Jeremiah Kuhlman, her brother, Dean Wright, her sister, Kathleen Head (George), and her grandson, Wesson Kuhlman.

Curtis Dean Hall, 62, of Inman, Kansas passed away Friday, July 22nd 2022 at his son's home. Curtis was born in McPherson, Kansas on December 9, 1959, a son of Leota (Morland) and Dewain Hall. Curtis attended the Wickersham grade school, McPherson, Hutchinson schools and graduated from Nickerson High School, Nickerson. Through the years Curtis worked for Grady Foundries; Straweavers as a Supervisor; Underground Vaults and Storage as a Truck Driver driving films for Warner Bro's to storage; Hospira as a Pharmaceutical Assistant; He owned and operated L.T.J. Maintenance for 2 and 1/2 years in North Carolina along with his brother Clark until his unexpected death; and for Seimens as a Material Coordinator until his health would not permit him to work. Curtis was always a family man first and foremost. He loved fishing, fishing, fishing, hunting, camping, and anything outdoors. He was very reliable and brutally honest and stubborn but he had the biggest heart and was one of the hardest working men. Curtis Dean Hall was united in marriage to Robin W. Nakamura October 10, 2003 in Texas. He is survived by his loving and caring wife of over eighteen years, Robin Nakamura, of Inman; their children, Jesse Hall, of Hutchinson; Christopher Hall and his wife Jaime, of Hutchinson; Hunter Hall and wife Holly, of Lakeville, Minnesota; Summer Sutton and husband Ronnie, of Mabank, Texas; and Carlton Jones, of Midway, Texas; his sisters, Dana LaGrange and husband Robert of Hutchinson; and Deean Hall and partner Claudia Noyes, of Belton, Missouri; their six grandchildren, Hannah, Riley, Brooklynn, Jackson, Grace and Amelia; a great-grandson, Obsidian; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Allen Edward Boyer, 84, of Loveland, CO, passed away in the presence of his family on July 21, 2022. Allen was born on July 8, 1938, to Charles and Winona Boyer in Danbury, NE. 

After graduating from Solomon High School in 1956 he spent his summer custom cutting wheat and then joined the Army where he became a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne. After 3 years in the service, he was honorably discharged. 

In 1965 Allen married his wife of 57 years, Vada Koehn. They raised two children, Tameria Janae (Boyer) Dishman and David Austin Boyer. Allen spent 17 years as a brick and stone mason and then worked for Johns Manville where he retired after 20 years. Allen loved spending time with family and friends hunting, fishing, camping, boating and playing cards. It was an annual event to meet his brothers and nephews on opening day of pheasant season and spend the day together. In addition to family he was especially close to his friends Charlie Johnson, Loren Boughman and Steve Marquez.

After retiring in 2004, Allen and Vada moved to Loveland, Colorado where he continued with his favorite pass times, as well as watching Tommy and Braiden participate in sports. Allen and Vada were blessed with making new friends in Colorado and enjoyed spending time with them as well. Allen was a dedicated and loving husband, Dad and Grandad. 

He is predeceased by his parents Charles and Winona (Ruby) Boyer, son David Austin Boyer, siblings Lois Zapp, Ardis Boyer, Enid Zapp, Richard (Dick) Boyer, Charlene Duck, and Ron Boyer. He is survived by his wife Vada Boyer, his daughter Tameria Dishman her husband Barry Dishman, three grandchildren – Chelsea Martin, Tommy Dishman and Braiden Dishman, sister Roberta Garten Johannes, sister-in-law Kathy Boyer, many nieces and nephews and many friends.

A graveside service will be held, Thursday, July 28th 2022 at 10am at the Elmwood Cemetery in Lindsborg. Military honors will be provided by members of the American Legion Post 24 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 with Mark Casebeer playing trumpet.&nbsp;&nbsp;
