Donald Eugene Bruner, 57, of Salina, and formerly of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, surrounded by family at the Holiday Resort Health &amp; Rehab, Salina.&nbsp; Don had worked as a warehouse supervisor at Tony's Pizza and was also a Transportation Supervisor at Schwan's Home Delivery.

Don was born on May 9, 1965, in Columbia, MO, the son of Ralph Eugene and Donna Sue (Byrd) Bruner.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School in 1983 and from Bethany College, Lindsborg in 1987.&nbsp;

Survivors include: his daughter, Nicole Morgan of Brownwood, TX; brothers, Kevin Bruner (Trish) of McPherson, and Clinton Bruner (Dara) of Wichita; sister-in-law, Kim Bruner of McPherson; aunt, Mae Bruner of Fulton, MO; uncle, James Byrd of McPherson; “little brother”, Paul Bruner (Natasha) of Fulton, MO; special friend, Kayla Thompson-Moore of Salina; dear friends, Bill Ottens of Denver, CO and Andrea Guliford of Salina; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Donna Bruner, and brother, Calvin Bruner.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM, Friday, September 30, 2022, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, all at the First Christian Church, 101 South Walnut St., McPherson, 67460.&nbsp; A private graveside service will take place at McPherson Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp;

Dean was born on February 12, 1929, in McPherson, the son of Floyd Harold and Mildred Irene (Tipton) Cotton.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School in 1947, McPherson College in 1951 and was the class salutatorian.&nbsp; He then attended &nbsp;Washburn Law School, graduating in1954.&nbsp; On February 9, 1955, Dean was united in marriage to Esther Marie Ikenberry at the McPherson Church of the Brethren.

Dean was a member of First United Methodist Church, Partners Sunday School Class, United Methodist Men, Kiwanis Club, Genealogy Club, McPherson County Historical Society, and life member of McPherson Opera House.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 67 years, Esther of the home; a son, Ken Cotton, DDS (Michelle) of McPherson; a daughter, Kathy Gauby (Sid) of Boise, ID; three siblings, Jeanine Watratz of Surprise, AZ, Donald Cotton (Ivadelle) of Scott City, and Carolyn Penner (Don) of North Newton; four grandchildren, Kyle Gauby (Melissa), Kacie Noyes (Jeremy), Meghan Rathbun (Denver), and Matt Cotton (Jocie); six great-grandchildren, Owen, Henry, Evelyn, Henry David, Howard, and Amelia; and several nieces and nephews.

Leslie R. “Les” Thiessen, 88, peacefully passed away on September 20, 2022 at Pine Village in Moundridge. Les was born to Jacob E. Thiessen and Bertha Androes Thiessen on November 24, 1933. He was born on the family farm near Meade. His family moved to Inman, when he was six years old. Les was baptized on August 13, 1950, becoming a member of the Inman Mennonite Church. After his marriage to Joy Ann Goering, he transferred his membership to Eden Mennonite Church, where he remained a faithful member until his passing. Following his graduation from Inman High School in 1952, Les worked at Rodney Milling Company in McPherson, before serving with the United States Army in Germany from March 1956 through March 1958. Les and Joy met on a blind date, and they were married on May 24, 1960. They were blessed with three daughters, Connie Jean, Karen Sue, and Cheryl Kay. The family later grew to include three sons-in-law, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In 1998, Les retired from Sterling Drug in McPherson. He greatly enjoyed his retirement and was able to spend more time on his favorite hobby of woodworking. He loved to create things for his grandkids, and over the years made many treasured items including child-size furniture, rocking horses, doll cradles, and much more. Les was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Bertha Thiessen; two sisters, Velma Carden and Shirley Shuff; and two brothers, Larry Thiessen and Ronald Thiessen. Survivors include his wife, Joy Thiessen of Moundridge; three daughters, Connie Achilles (Stan) of Newton, Karen Ortiz (Fred) of Wichita, and Cheryl Boesker (Gary) of Canton; six grandchildren, Kristen McCormick (Luke) of Salina, Stephanie Phetteplace (Mike) of Park City, Cori Huffman (Joel) of Wichita, Jordan Nice (Alena) of Newton, Tyler Boesker of Canton, and Chelsea Craytor (Matt) of Wichita; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia McCormick, Henry McCormick, and Ezekiel Craytor. Virginia (Ginger) Freach, 85, died peacefully September 18, 2022, in Wichita. Ginger was born September 25, 1936, to Andrew and Frieda Kosminski in Newton. 

She married Steve Freach in 1955 and they celebrated 56 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. As a Navy family they lived in numerous coastal cities during his long military career but most enjoyed their time in Arizona before retiring to St. John, in 1994. 

Ginger enjoyed her life as a homemaker and was particularly skilled at sewing and cooking. Her beautiful quilts and craft projects leave a legacy for so many. She was an avid reader throughout her life, ever ready to dig into a good book. She was preceded in death by husband Steve in 2012, son Daniel Freach, grandson Kristofer Freach and great-granddaughter Olivia Franco.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is survived by son Steve Jr. (Mary Lou), daughter Polly (Gordon) Austin, grandchildren: Joe (Belinda) Freach, Beth (Jim) Schwartz, Emily Freach, Jesse (Kaitlin Plasterer) Austin, Carly (Keith) VenJohn, Sara Chavez-Christmann , Luke (Joy) Chavez, Danna Hendricks, and 7 great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

Phyliss A. Willinger went home to be with her Lord on Sept. 19, 2022 at the Stafford Co. Hospital, Stafford. She was born on Sept. 10, 1933 to Charles and Gertrude Willinger of rural Hudson. 

She was a graduate of Hudson High School. On Nov. 16, 1952, she married Dwain G. Gill of Sylvia. A lifetime resident of Kansas, she was a mother and homemaker. She belonged to the Turon Community Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Dwain; both parents; a brother Darwin Willinger, of Marble Falls, TX; an infant sister, Shelia; and one Great Granddaughter, Taylor. Phyliss is survived by a son, Steve (Vonda) Gill, Sylvia; daughters, Cindy (Galen) Childs, Abbyville; Carol (Randy) Vogel, Marion; Brenda (David) Marshall, Hutchinson; a brother, Larry (Maxine) Willinger, Farmington, NM; a sister, Shirley Fischer, Seward; 11 Grandchildren and 31 Great Grandchildren. 

Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with family present from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Minnis chapel, Stafford, KS. Patricia Ann “Pat” Wagler, 82, of Sterling, Kansas, met her Lord and Savior on September 18, 2022, at the Sterling Village. She was born December 14, 1939, in Sterling, the daughter of Marvin and Helene (Considine) Ray. 

Pat graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1957 and went on to graduate from Sterling College with a degree in music. She taught piano to many students in the community. Her true passion was playing the organ so beautifully at the Sterling Evangelical Bible Church. Pat was active in both choir and band in high school and carried her love of music thru by accompanying many vocalists and instrumental performers. She enjoyed playing her piano for anyone who needed their spirits lifted. 

On May 8, 1959, Pat was united in marriage with Wendell Zimmerman. Their surviving children are Todd Ray (Lillian) Zimmerman of Sterling, and Debra Kay (Atlee) Preheim of Hesston; grandchildren, Grady (Ashlee) Pauls, Kylie (Robert) Moore, Javier, Moises and Rosy Zimmerman; and five great-grandchildren, Landry and Grayson Pauls, Braylen and Reagan Moore, and Ariel Villanueva Zimmerman. Wendell preceded Pat in death on September 24, 1998. 

On July 8, 2000, Pat was united in marriage with Charles Wagler. She graciously loved his children, Stan (Kathy) Wagler, Sue (Lowell) Entz, James Wagler, and Shelly (Baron) Clifford; and four grandchildren, Tyler (Cailey) Entz, Lindsey (Landon) McGee, Charlie and Stella Clifford. Charles preceded Pat in death on December 27, 2020. 

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 23, 2022, at the Sterling Evangelical Bible Church with Pastor Lowell Entz officiating. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Patricia Ann “Pat” Wagler  |1939-2022|  

Carolyn Mae Johnson, 93, formerly of Assaria passed away September 19, 2022 at Homestead Estates, Wichita.  Carolyn was born September 29, 1928, in Salina, the oldest of three children to Edgar and Ruby Johnson of Assaria, Kansas.  

     Carolyn lived in Assaria for the majority of her life.  In 1946, she graduated from Assaria High School and then attended Brown Mackie College in Salina.  She worked at Lynch Grain until she married Richard H. Johnson on June 4, 1950.  She was proud of her Swedish heritage and enjoyed her role as a farmer’s wife and mother to their three children.  

     As a member of Assaria Lutheran Church, she joyfully served in many capacities, including Visitation Committee, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Mary Group, XYZ, Choir, quilting, communion preparation, and serving in the kitchen.  Her other community activities included Extension Homemakers Unit and 4H.  She and her husband loved to spend time with their friends in Salina Twirlers Square Dance Club.  

     She was a loving care-giver to her husband until his death after 46 years of marriage.  She continued to live independently on their farm until 2016 when she moved first to Lindsborg then to Wichita until her death.

     Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Johnson, her parents, Edgar and Ruby Johnson, and her brother, Eldon Johnson. 

     She is survived by her sister, Doris Blomquist of Assaria, son, Dale (Linda), of Carlsbad, California, and daughters Sharon (Scott) Moser of Wichita and Anita (Jeff) Wesche of Virginia Beach, Virginia, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  

     Visitation with the family will be from 6:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday, September 23, at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.

Carolyn Mae Johnson, 93, formerly of Assaria passed away September 19, 2022 at Homestead Estates, Wichita. Carolyn was born September 29, 1928, in Salina, the oldest of three children to Edgar and Ruby Johnson of Assaria, Kansas. Carolyn lived in Assaria for the majority of her life. In 1946, she graduated from Assaria High School and then attended Brown Mackie College in Salina. She worked at Lynch Grain until she married Richard H. Johnson on June 4, 1950. She was proud of her Swedish heritage and enjoyed her role as a farmer’s wife and mother to their three children. As a member of Assaria Lutheran Church, she joyfully served in many capacities, including Visitation Committee, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Mary Group, XYZ, Choir, quilting, communion preparation, and serving in the kitchen. Her other community activities included Extension Homemakers Unit and 4H. She and her husband loved to spend time with their friends in Salina Twirlers Square Dance Club. She was a loving care-giver to her husband until his death after 46 years of marriage. She continued to live independently on their farm until 2016 when she moved first to Lindsborg then to Wichita until her death. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Johnson, her parents, Edgar and Ruby Johnson, and her brother, Eldon Johnson. She is survived by her sister, Doris Blomquist of Assaria, son, Dale (Linda), of Carlsbad, California, and daughters Sharon (Scott) Moser of Wichita and Anita (Jeff) Wesche of Virginia Beach, Virginia, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be from 6:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday, September 23, at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg. He was born Oct. 31, 1964, at Kenton, Ohio the son of John Gary and Barbara Crawfold Culp.

A longtime resident of the Zenda community, he was a oil field worker and custom cutter.

Wayne was a former City council member and former Mayor of Zenda; and was on the Zenda Voluteer Fire Dept.

Survivors include his daughter Dani Rau and her husband Paul; his mother Barbara; sisters Karen Sturchio, Betty Cope and Amy Culp; and grandchildren Paul IV, Isaac and Carter.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery outside Zenda.

Arlene Mae Zerger passed from this life in the early morning hours on September 20, 2022.

Arlene was born July 5, 1936 to Jonas and Hulda (Kaufman) Schrag.&nbsp; She grew up on the family farm south of McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; On June 30, 1962 she married Carrol D. Zerger at Eden Mennonite Church.&nbsp; They were married 59 years. This union resulted in three children, Charlene, Linn, and Darrin.

Arlene was a member of Kingman Mennonite Church along with her husband and in recent years also attended First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie.

She is survived by her daughter Charlene Zerger Childs and grandchildren Chelsea Childs Sibley (William), Claire Childs, and Connor Childs . Her sons Linn Zerger and Darrin (Sheri) Zerger and grandchildren Elizabeth and Michael. Also surviving are her brother and his wife, Dennis (Pam) Schrag and sister-in-law’s Esther Schrag and Twilla Schrag.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Carrol on December 27, 2021.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers and their wives, LaVerne (Irma) Schrag, Gilbert (Vida) Schrag, Jacob Schrag, Delmar Schrag, and a sister and her husband Marilynn (Earl) Flickner.

Beth Elaine (Hartman) (Boettger) Hershberger was born on February 5, 1957 to Robert and Rhoda Hartman. She grew up in Kidron, Ohio. She was the second of three girls, the “middle” child. She learned to play the piano when she was seven years old, and took lessons for nine years straight. She was an accompanist at her home church, Pleasant View Mennonite Church, in North Lawrence, Ohio from the time she was in junior high. She also played at the different churches that she attended (most recently Whitestone Mennonite Church in Hesston, KS), as well as for choirs in high school and college. In times of stress and anxiety, her solace was often playing the piano. She also loved to read and go for walks. Beth accepted Christ as her personal Savior one Sunday when her Grandpa Yoder was preaching and gave an alter call. She was 10 years old. Beth and Barb, her older sister, used to play house together with their dolls. They also rode their bikes together on the road where they lived. Inevitably, someone would crash, and it was usually me. She graduated from Central Christian High School in 1975 and then continued her education at Hesston College, Hesston, KS, graduating in 1977 with an A.A. degree in Business. She worked at Hesston College, General Conference Church Oversees Mission, Schowalter Villa, Bachman Plumbing and Heating, Hesston Eye Clinic, Goering Hardware, and did transcription in the home. She married Conrad Boettger in 1979 and two children became part of their family, Jenna Marie and Joel Conrad. She later married Kermit “Dee” Hershberger in 1997, and his two sons became part of their family, Seth Alan and Chad Aaron. She is survived by her husband, Dee, of the home; Jenna (David) Boettger Boring along with Verona and Finn, Portland, OR; Joel Boettger along with Karina Ortman, Wichita; Seth (Sarah) Hershberger along with Collin, Natalie and Grady, Newton; and Chad (Tara Shae) Hershberger along with Kohen, Archer, and Pennington, Derby. She is also survived by her Mother Rhoda Hartman, Kidron OH, and two sisters, Barb (Ralph) Reinford, Dalton, OH; and Brenda (Mark) Hartman-Souder, Syracuse, NY, along with nieces, nephews and their families. He was a beloved father, brother and son. He spent his life loving antique cars, German memorabilia, model cars and collecting so many other antiques throughout the years but his main love was his cats and family. There was nothing he wouldn’t of done for his family or friends. He was a lifelong resident of Hutchinson, KS and a graduate of Hutchinson High in 1973. He lived a simple satisfying life in his country home for over 25 years. Before his retirement most of his jobs were sitting in the driver’s seat and included Bett’s Bakery, Anheuser-Bush, Groendyke Transport then finally owning his own business Affordable Wrecker.

He passed in peace at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center spending his last moments with his family. He is survived by his daughter Kristina Jarrett and her husband Cody Jarrett, son Chad Ringwald, and seven grandkids: Taylor Wyler and her husband Arick Wyler, Kaleb Parker, Faith Jarrett, Mikaela Jarrett, Micah Jarrett, Cody Ringwald and Jaycee Ringwald and 2 great granddaughters Aniyah and Aria Wyler all From Hutchinson, Ks. Also his younger sister Rhonda Wright of Arlington, TX and her two children Travis Kenney and Kelsey Kenney.

He is proceeded in death by his father Arthur Wright, mother Virginia Wright, both sets of grandparents and several aunts and uncles. Sherry leaves behind her brother Mickey Powell and sister Cynthia Powell, her 3 children, Shannon Demars, Danya (John) Campbell, and Colin (Angie) Costley, and grandchildren Kyle, Jeffery, Dalton, Dustin, Kathryn (Tanner), Garrett, Bailey,Parker, Riley, and Asher.

Cindy was a 1969 graduate of Hutchinson High School.&nbsp; She worked at Kingsley-Wagner Motor Supply Company for 21 years and then as a correctional officer at Hutchinson Correctional Facility, retiring with 11 years of service.&nbsp; Cindy was a member of the National Rifle Association, Judicial Watch, Hutchinson Gun Club, and Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.

Cindy enjoyed riding horses and participated in barrel racing competitions.&nbsp; She loved taking care of animals and going to the horse races.

Cindy is survived by numerous cousins and many friends.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.&nbsp;

John Russell Hendrickson, 59, of Hutchinson, died September 17, 2022, in Hutchinson. He was born June 13, 1963, to James R. and Betty (Billinger) Hendrickson.

John earned his GED and went to work for Kwik Shop in Hutchinson for 30 plus years. His most recent job was at TECH doing maintenance work and really enjoyed doing both.

He was a huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs football team, K-State football, and KU basketball and watched them play in his spare time. Most of all, his number one favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren.

He married Janelle Messer, they later divorced.

John is survived by: mother, Betty Hendrickson of Hutchinson; son, Michael Hendrickson of NE; sisters, Laura Oler of TX, Julie Dale of AZ, Tina Knowles of Kingman, Michelle Wineinger of Prairie Village, Jennifer Hendrickson of Wichita; grandchildren, Mayzee Ray Bethke- Hendrickson and Arland Russell Bethke- Hendrickson of Nebraska.

 She married Don Ewert June 14, 1948 on the Farm rural Durham.  Survivors include: husband, Don Ewert of Hillsboro; sons, Dennis Ewert of Manhattan, Glenn Ewert of Wichita; daughter, Carolyn (Glen) Wilson of Lyndon; sisters, Shirley Klein, Joan Harmon, Patricia Ford; 8 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Larry DeWayne Wedel, loving father and friend, passed away at age 77 on September 18, 2022. He was born to Nathan and Betty (Koehn) Wedel on January 25, 1945. Raised on the family farm northwest of Durham, farming was in Larry’s blood. As a child he enjoyed riding the tractor with his Grandpa Koehn and working in the fields alongside his brothers. He told stories of swimming in the stock tank, Sunday chicken dinners at Grandma Koehn’s and riding in his Uncle Vic’s flashy car.

In high school he was a proud member of the 1963 State Basketball Champion, Durham Hornets. Throughout his life he aspired to keep the “Spirit of ’63” alive and carried that strength and determination through every challenge he faced.

In 1969 Larry and then wife Theresa purchased their own dairy farm. He enjoyed it all – feeding and milking cows, working the ground, harvesting wheat, and putting up hay. He loved having his kids and grandkids sitting beside him in the tractor. Later in life, he referred to the farm as his friend, and he never wanted to leave. He built close friendships with other farmers in the community. In recent years, he developed a knack for packing silage, and was grateful to be a part of the forage chopping crew.

In times of leisure, he enjoyed Friday nights at Salina Speedway, hot rod tractor pulls, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a special affection for cherry pie, the rumble of a big block Chevy, and the singing of old Mennonite hymns. His children and grandchildren remember him for his playful, easy-going manner, deep voice, big hands, unfailing generosity and tireless work ethic.

Survivors include: brothers Doug (Mona) of Est Omerville, Quebec, Canada, Steve (Cindy) of Abilene, Curtis (Joy) of Durham, Monte of Scottsdale, AZ, and sister Mona (Dale) Koop of Abilene. Children Darcy (Shannon) of Great Bend, Dana of Portland, OR, and Dara of Fresno, CA. Grandchildren Ethan, Evan, Emily and Cy.

Memorial Service will be held Monday, September 26, at Grace Community Fellowship, 613 Adams, Hillsboro, KS. Visitation with family at 10:00 AM, followed by service at 10:30 AM. Lunch for friends and family will be served immediately following the service.

Larry DeWayne Wedel, loving father and friend, passed away at age 77 on September 18, 2022. He was born to Nathan and Betty (Koehn) Wedel on January 25, 1945. Raised on the family farm northwest of Durham, farming was in Larry’s blood. As a child he enjoyed riding the tractor with his Grandpa Koehn and working in the fields alongside his brothers. Glenna Arlene Thompson, 85, of Hutchinson, KS went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Pleasant Hills Retirement Home, Hutchinson, KS.

Glenna was born on February 4, 1937 in El Dorado, KS, the daughter of Clyde and Treva Copeland. As a child, Glenna and family moved to Russell where after graduation became an X-ray technician at the Russell Hospital. She was united in marriage with her husband Robert on September 29, 1957 and moved to rural Natoma, KS where she was the backbone of the family farm helping in every way possible. After her husband’s death, Glenna moved to Hutchinson and worked as school cook and later became a teacher at Trinity Treasures, an after school program within the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was also an active volunteer for the Union Valley Bible Church. Being a farmer’s wife, Glenna loved being outdoors and being active in the lives of her family and church. To her family and friends, she was known for her courageous spirit, sense of humor and wit and for her cherry pies. But most of all, Glenna loved the Lord.

Richard Alfred Jensen was born April 3, 1938 in the home of Gustav Nystrom 1 mile west and ½ mile south of Scandia, Ks. He died on Sunday, September 18, 2022 in his home surrounded by loved ones. Rick was 84.

The son of Vivian Agnus (Nystrom) and Arthur Alexander Jensen, he attended Scandia Grade School and later moved with his parents to Republic, KS., where he graduated from Republic High School in 1956. Rick married on October 1960, to this union two children were born, Staci and Sean. He joined the Army in 1960 and was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged. Rick resided in Republic KS. He worked on a farm, drove a school bus, worked at Republic Feed &amp; Fertilizer and sold MoorMan Feed. He also worked for Farmers Co-Op Commission Elevator in Hutchinson, KS and mowed lawns for Hutchinson Community College and KS Law Enforcement. He also managed Water district # 3. On September 2, 1988, Richard and Janice Louise (Sterling) were married at the Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. They reside at the old naval base near Yoder, KS. Joining this union was Dan, Chris, DeAnna and Teresa.

Rick and Jan enjoyed many wonderful trips together. They enjoyed motorcycle trips, especially their trip to Europe. They square danced, bingo at the Legion, bus trips and card parties. Rick was a member of the American Legion, The Moose Lodge and Eagles Club.

Rick is survived by his wife, Jan Jensen of the home, children, Staci and Jon Strnad of Belleville, KS., Sean Jensen of Deer park, TX., Dan and Sarah Smith, Chris and Jeff Neighbors, DeAnna Blew and Donnie Jackson all of Hutchinson, KS., and Teresa and Louis Enriquez of El Paso, TX.; sister, Virginia Carr of Fowler, OH.; 12 grandchildren, Morgan and Grant Strnad, Mark and Keith Gregg, Ashley Bengtson, Brody Smith, Jeff and Kelton Neighbors, Amanda, Andrea and Angela Jackson (the gator girls) and Courtney Enriquez; and 19 great grandchildren.

Delila Yoder, 77, of Hutchinson, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born July 11, 1945, in Hutchinson, to Amanda M. (Yoder) and Moses C. Yoder.

Delila was a homemaker and a member of the Plainview Mennonite Church. She lived a life that was centered around her faith in God and there was nothing more important to her than the love that she had for her family. Delila was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Quality time and acts of service were her love languages. Delila enjoyed entertaining and playing games with family and friends. Her passion was baking and cooking, and she often shared that passion with others. Delila will be remembered for her strong work ethic and for being a kind, caring, and selfless woman who genuinely put the needs of others before her own.&nbsp;

Delila is survived by her husband, Wilbur D. Yoder, whom she married on August 26, 1967. She is also survived by: her three sons: Keith Yoder (Brenda) of Nappanee, IN; Darrell Yoder (Angie) of Kansas City, KS; Sheldon Yoder (Tisha) of Hutchinson; a daughter: Regina Miller (Ray) of Hutchinson; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John “Paul” Yoder and Christy “James” Yoder.

A funeral service to honor her life is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the Plainview Mennonite Church, 5610 W. Trail West Road, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in the Plainview cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on the church’s website.

Dave Ray Schoonover passed away due to injuries he sustained in a catastrophic motorcycle accident while on the way to Mobile, AL for the Legacy Run. 

Dave was a long-time member of the American Legion, after serving in the US Army as a Transport Driver in Germany from 1980-1984.  He was a staunch supporter of American Legion programs, especially the Legacy Runs both nationally and in Kansas. Dave was a wildlife lover and served on the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Reserve Board of Directors for over 20 years. Dave leaves behind his wife Millie Schoonover, and many family and friends. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sept 25 at 2:00pm at the American Legion Post 68 (730 west 4th) in Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Richard Lee Swartzendruber, 85, died on September 17, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

He was born on April 20, 1937, in St. John’s, Michigan, the son of George and Grace (Snyder) Swartzendruber.

On July 11, 1964, Richard was united in marriage to Naomi Everson. The couple celebrated 58 years of marriage this year.

Richard was always a car enthusiast and as a result, his career centered mostly around working on or with cars.&nbsp; He bought and sold cars, did mechanical work, but enjoyed auto body work the most.&nbsp; Richard and Naomi served with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Papua New Guinea for six years where his role was working on cars.&nbsp; The last period of his career included working at B&amp;C Specialty Products in Newton building starters for aircraft.

Richard was preceded in death by his son George, brothers Gene, Wayne and Bob, and parents George and Grace.

He is survived by his wife Naomi, son David &amp; wife Sara (Vollrath); grandson, George &amp; wife Mary (Koszalka); granddaughter, Sharea and husband Jose Nepius; grandson, Samuel; granddaughter, Grace; sister, Evelyn Troyer; brother, Larry Swartzendruber; and sister, Virginia Swartzendruber.

Florence "Jean" Oblander (Peters) died September 17, 2022 at Salem Home, Hillsboro. She was born September 20, 1926 in Goessel, to George &amp; Ruth (Schroeder) Peters.

She attended her 1st grade of school at the 1-room schoolhouse, Geis School, where she was taught by her Uncle Ted Peters and quickly became "teacher's pet." She then spent her next 11 years at Durham, graduating in 1944. She attended Emporia State College, receiving her temporary teacher's certificate and taught for two years at the 1-room schoolhouse, Pleasant Valley, west of Durham.

While attending school in Durham, she met the love of her life, Virgil Oblander, marrying him on Sept 1, 1946. They moved to Virgil's parents farm after his parents moved to Durham. On June 18, 1950, they welcomed their first child, Burt; followed by Wendy, on Aug 4, 1952; quickly followed by Gene, on Oct 11, 1953; and Kim, on Nov 21, 1954.

Mom worked (hard) raising her kids. She also worked, after the kids all left home, as a cook at Shiloh Manor in Canton. As a member of the Lutheran church, she spent countless hours volunteering for whatever was asked of her, including serving as a Sunday School teacher, cooking for countless funerals and events, and taking on the president role of the Durham Trinity Lutheran LWML. Although she still volunteered, she retired in 1991, when she and Virgil moved to Newton. They moved back to Hillsboro to care for Jean's mom, Ruth. They resided in Hillsboro until Virgil died in 2015, after which Jean moved to an apartment in Hillsboro and kept busy making her wonderful meals which were always appreciated (and quickly devoured!) by her family. In August 2022, she suffered a fall and moved to Salem Home where she received wonderful care but passed away from congestive heart failure three days before her 96th birthday.

She was a wonderful mother, grandma, aunt, sister, and friend. She was an amazing cook (we are thankful to have her recipes), a beautiful and strong woman, always happy, extremely sharp, and always ready for a long conversation.

She is survived by her son, Burt Oblander, Newton; daughter, Wendy (Peter) Daniel, Beckenham, England; son, Gene (Janine) Oblander, Greeley, CO; daughter, Kim (Jonas) Frantz, Tampa; and sister, Judi Dunn, Salina. Also, grandson, Chris Oblander, and granddaughters, Julie Oblander (who she shared a special bond with), April Zink, Rachel Daniel, and Sarah Daniel, and six great-grandchildren: Dalis, Haley, Harlee, Isaac, Kamin, and Jason. She was predeceased by her husband, Virgil; and her sister, Georgia Medley.

Graveside Service at Durham Park Cemetery 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2022 rural Durham. &nbsp;Family will have a private Celebration of Life service to honor Jean's life.

Florence "Jean" Oblander (Peters) died September 17, 2022 at Salem Home, Hillsboro. She was born September 20, 1926 in Goessel, to George &amp; Ruth (Schroeder) Peters.She attended her 1st grade of school at the 1-room schoolhouse, Geis School, where she was taught by her Uncle Ted Peters and quickly became "teacher's pet." She then spent her next 11 years at Durham, graduating in 1944. She attended Emporia State College, receiving her temporary teacher's certificate and taught for two years at the 1-room schoolhouse, Pleasant Valley, west of Durham.While attending school in Durham, she met the love of her life, Virgil Oblander, marrying him on Sept 1, 1946. They moved to Virgil's parents farm after his parents moved to Durham. On June 18, 1950, they welcomed their first child, Burt; followed by Wendy, on Aug 4, 1952; quickly followed by Gene, on Oct 11, 1953; and Kim, on Nov 21, 1954.Mom worked (hard) raising her kids. She also worked, after the kids all left home, as a cook at Shiloh Manor in Canton. As a member of the Lutheran church, she spent countless hours volunteering for whatever was asked of her, including serving as a Sunday School teacher, cooking for countless funerals and events, and taking on the president role of the Durham Trinity Lutheran LWML. Although she still volunteered, she retired in 1991, when she and Virgil moved to Newton. They moved back to Hillsboro to care for Jean's mom, Ruth. They resided in Hillsboro until Virgil died in 2015, after which Jean moved to an apartment in Hillsboro and kept busy making her wonderful meals which were always appreciated (and quickly devoured!) by her family.
