Larry Ray Drummond |1951-2022|

Larry Ray Drummond, age 71, passed away to his heavenly home on December 8, 2022, after a long illness.  He passed at Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kansas.

He was born March 30, 1951 in Pratt, KS to parents Roy R. and Rosella M. (Thompson) Drummond.

Larry attended grade schools at Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Pratt, KS.  Larry graduated from Pratt Senior High School in 1969.  He graduated from Pratt Community Junior College in 1971 with an Associate Degree in Science. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1973, majoring in Building Design and Construction.

Upon graduation from college, Larry’s experience included titles of Junior Plant Facilities Engineer, Mine Surveyor, Senior Designer, Structural Draftsman, Project Coordinator and Slip-form Inspector. Companies he worked for include American Salt Co.; Borton, Inc., Black and Veatch, Van Sickle Allen and Assoc., Ebmeier Engineering, and Southwest and Assoc. He was especially proud of rough-necking in the oilfields for his father during the summer months while attending high school and college.

Larry was a walking encyclopedia of trivia knowledge. He loved collecting all types of movies, as well as Country and Rock & Roll music. He also loved to fish, attend dirt track auto races, and was a Military and Old West history buff. He also enjoyed reading, Muscle Cars from the 50's, 60's and 70's, and he was a longtime fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Larry met the love of his life, Katrina K. Drummond (Harbacek), at Walmart on Good Friday in 2003, and they were married later that year in Hutchinson. They were blessed with 19 years of marriage, and she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: step-daughters, Julie Zolman, Jennifer Zolman (Andrew Blea), Joni Heiderscheit (Jerry Jr.), all of Hutchinson, KS. Sister, Connie M. (Drummond) Vonachen, of Wisconsin, and Brother-in-Law Eric Harbacek of Hutchinson. Nephews: Mark Vonachen (Charlene Mosier) of Hutchinson, Keith Vonachen (Melanie), of Wisconsin. Grandchildren: Anthony & Brandyn Breland, Prudence Long & Sienna Blea, and Grace & Mia Heiderscheit. Nieces: Mira and Solenne Vonachen. Other survivors include daughters Erica and Jessica.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his ‘Fishing Buddy’ Brother-in-law L. Wayne Vonachen, and fur babies: Skipper, Mickey, Smoky Jo, Casper, Max Man & Emma Dog.

As per his request, cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.  Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.   Inurnment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt.
