David “Jim” James Serviss, 71, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022, in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Jim was born on February 16, 1951, in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Harry D. and Ruby (Liggett) Serviss. Jim attended Peabody High School and in 1968, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served 2 tours in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972. On March 2, 1972, Jim married Cris Collins, to this union they were blessed with two children, David and Dannelle. Before recently moving to Arlington, Jim resided in the Billings, MT area for over 30 years. Jim was an over the road truck driver for more than 40 years. For the last 7 years, he worked for Matthew Huelle Transporting, LLC and recently retired in 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marvin Serviss, and a brother-in-law, Simon Purcell.
Jim is survived by his children, David B. (Heather) Serviss and Dannelle (Robert Perez) Serviss; fiancé, Barbara Sullivan; six grandchildren, D.J. (Brandy) Serviss, Megan (Tristen) Pike, Karisma Serviss, Kayleigh Serviss, Keenan Randolph, and Logan Serviss; six great grandchildren, Ayden, Kinsley, Gentry, Amiyah, Miles and Lenexa; sister, Cindy Purcell; brother, Steve (Barbara) Serviss; sister-in-law, Martha Serviss, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Arlington Township Cemetery, Arlington, KS. with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Reno County Veterans Memorial, in care of the funeral chapel.
