Betty Lou Preston passed peacefully at the age of 93 on August 4, 2023 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born September 29, 1929, in Hutchinson, to Roy Edward and Lillian Jane (Evans) Lyen.

Betty attended Hutchinson High School. She went on to College of Cosmetology in Dodge City. She was a beautician and owned her own shop in Hutchinson.

In her spare time, she loved to attend her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s ball games, barbecue’s, family gatherings and holidays. Betty also enjoyed ceramics, flowers, and playing cards, especially 5 Point Pitch. She was a fan of Royals baseball. Betty was very knowledgeable about the game and even had her favorite players. In addition, she was an avid bird watcher; she knew the different species of birds, what to feed them, and how to keep them coming. Upon her retirement, she and her husband became “winter Texans” traveling and staying in Crooked Tree and Harlingen, TX with her sister-in-law, brother-in-law and several friends.

Betty was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. She was a member of several circles working mainly on projects for the blind.

On February 1, 1951, she married William Franklin Preston in Hutchinson. They enjoyed 72 years of marriage.

Betty is survived by: her husband, William ‘Bill’ Preston of Hutchinson; children, Janice Preston of Haven, Jim (Beth) Preston of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jeff (Callie) Brawner of Burrton, Matt (Amber) Brawner of Burrton, Amy (Jack) Conkling of Hutchinson, and Andy (Emily) Preston of Bel Aire; great-grandchildren, Bailey (Kendell) Born of Hutchinson, Brooke Brawner of Hutchinson, Brie, Avery, Cole, and Lyndi Brawner all of Burrton, Mackie and Brax Conkling of Hutchinson, and Paisley, Reese, and Blair Preston, all of Bel Aire; great-great-grandson, Stetson Born of Hutchinson; brothers-in-law, David (Shirley) Preston of Lake Jackson, TX and Rick (Betty) Preston of Virginia Beach, VA; and many nieces and nephews.   

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lillian and sister, Laurel Tiger.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 E. 12th Ave., Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Cremation has taken place.

Friends may sign her book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2023 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
