Born Monica E. Holland in 1932, to Daniel and Monica Holland of Hutchinson. Monica was raised on her parent’s farm just south of Hutchinson along with her five brothers and one sister. She graduated from St. Teresa High School in 1950, and later married Eugene Dick in 1953, her high school sweetheart. They shared 44 years of marriage before Eugene passed in 1998. They had four children: Kathleen Danks of Hutchinson, Diane Wilks of Wichita, Daniel Dick of Hutchinson, and Durrel Dick of Topeka. She had six grandchildren who she loved: Dustin Danks of Hutchinson, Dannon Danks (Amber) of Hutchinson, Jennifer Shaffer of Topeka, Chelsie Dosch (Wade) of Hutchinson, Jonathan Wilks (Kelsey) of Wichita, and Joseph Wilks of Wichita. Monica also had nine great grandchildren she loved: Eric, Cassie, Kimber, Wyatt, Shayley, Owen, Easton, Declan, and Irelynn.

Monica was a strong supporter of her church, St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson. Her Family, the Holland’s, were instrumental in helping to build and form the church and school in its early beginnings. Her faith and love for St. Teresa church was unmatched. Monica was well known to her family for preparing feasts for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. She would always cook a great meal for anyone who came to visit on Sunday. Cooking was her specialty and she excelled at it. Monica loved cooking and experimenting with new recipes to which her children and grandchildren were her guinea pigs for her trials. She worked for 60 years as a secretary for a local insurance company before retiring after which she focused more on her family which she loved dearly.

Monica was proceeded in death by:  her husband, Eugene Dick; parents, Daniel and Monica Holland; brothers, Edward, Francis, Ben, Richard, Jack; and one sister, Margaret.

She is survived by: her four children, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Heaven has truly gained an angel and a phenomenal cook, she’ll be missed.

Rosary will be 11 am Saturday, August 26, 2023, followed by Mass of Christian Burial, both at St. Teresa Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 am to 8 pm Friday with family present from 5 to 7 pm at Elliott Mortuary.
