INDEPENDENCE, Kan.— – The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team had trouble stopping the 1-2 Independence punch of Maisa Marcal and Miriam Bazylewicz and dropped a Jayhawk Conference road game Wednesday at the ICC Fieldhouse.

The Independence duo combined for 41 points as the Pirates upended the No. 17 Blue Dragon 70-64.

The Blue Dragon fall to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson is now 0-2 on the road this season. Independence, which snapped a three-game losing streak to the Blue Dragons, improves to 5-1 and 4-1 in the Jayhawk East.

Hutchinson had another tough shooting start, hitting only 8 of 26 shots in the first two quarters (30.8 percent). Still the Blue Dragons trailed only 30-29 at halftime after&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2020-21/bios/alford_tor-e_j660">Tor'e Alford</a>&nbsp;hit a 3-pointer with 4 seconds remaining in the half.

The Dragons outscored Independence 22-19 in third quarter thanks to a big performance by freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2020-21/bios/suttington_ishante_gbs8">Ishante Suttington</a>&nbsp;in the stanza. She hit a 3-pointer with 1:30 to play in the quarter to give Hutch a 51-46 lead. The Dragons led 51-49 after three quarters.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2020-21/bios/grassity_yana_fdqu">Yana Grassity</a>&nbsp;hit a couple of huge 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter, to keep the Dragons in front, but Marcal and Bazylewicz took over, combining for 17 of Indy's 21 fourth-quarter points. With the game ties, Bazylewicz nailed her second 3-pointer of the period with 1:49 left to give the Pirates the lead for good at 67-64.

Hutch had three chances to tie the game in the final minute, but each shot spun around the rim and fell off. The Pirates outscored Hutchinson 21-13 in the fourth quarter.

Marcal hit 8 of 12 free throws and scored a game-high 21 points on 6 of 11 shooting, including a 3-pointer. Bazylewicz nailed four 3-pointers and finished with 20 points.

Grassity had season highs of 12 points, two 3-pointers and 3 of 4 from the foul line to lead the Blue Dragons. Grassity scored eight points in the fourth quarter.

Alford also finished with 12 points. Suttington scored 8 of her 11 points in the third quarter.

The Blue Dragons were 20 of 55 shooting, 36.4 percent, including 8 of 24 from 3-point range and 16 of 25 from the free-throw line. The Pirates were 22 of 56 overall shooting (39.3 percent). The Pirates were 6 of 20 from distance and 20 of 33 from the free-throw line.

Rebounds were even at 40-40. Offensive rebounds were even at 9-9 and turnovers were even at 20-20.

The Blue Dragons return to the Sports Arena to face the Allen Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

GAME NOTES – This is Hutchinson's first loss at Independence since 1999. This is only the fourth game played at Independence in that span. … The Dragons are now 36-13 all-time against Independence. The Dragons had won 18 of 19 against the Pirates.

Blue Dragon Women drop Jayhawk road contest at Independence

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees will take action on a new position that will provide more educational opportunities for inmates at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

The new position, Correctional Education Coordinator, will assist inmates with everything from finding grants to getting proper class training and other vocational opportunities. The coordinator will also work with Greenbush who provides the education resources for inmates in the prison. The person will work under the Business and Industry department at the college.

Also Thursday, the Board will sign a new agreement with Phelps Health for a clinic affiliation agreement for the Allied Health program and seek approval of a resolution for the college to go after a Rural Business Development Grant that will be used for the new CDL courses that are being offered at the college. The grant totals just over $94,000 and will be used for a commercial truck driving simulator.

Thursday’s meeting of the HutchCC Board of Trustees begins at 7 p.m. at the Shears Technology Center.

Hutch CC BOT to meet Thursday

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team look to win consecutive games for the first time this season when the Blue Dragons travel to play the Independence Pirates at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the ICC Fieldhouse.

The Blue Dragons enter the game 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Jayhawk West after Saturday's 73-52 victory over Cloud County at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson had its strongest defensive game of the season, holding Cloud County 40 points under its 92-point scoring average. The Dragons also held a 44-25 rebounding advantage.

The Pirates suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, dropping an 86-76 decision to now-No. 14 Dodge City. The Jayhawk East second-place are 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Over their last two games, the Blue Dragons have allowed an average of 59 points per game while opponents have shot just 35.1 percent and the Dragons have recorded 19 blocked shots.

Hutchinson is 2-1 since losing sophomore guard&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/bios/baker_josh_lpkm">Josh Baker</a>&nbsp;for an extended period of time because of an injury he sustained early in the Coffeyville game on Jan. 27.

Sophomore forward&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/bios/mayers_matt_jfk4">Matt Mayers</a>&nbsp;continues to lead the Blue Dragons in scoring at 15.8 points per game. Forward&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/bios/kuath_majok_xrls">Majok Kuath</a>&nbsp;is averaging 14.8 point while the Dragons are averaging 75.2 points per game as a team.

For the fifth-consecutive game, the Blue Dragon defense will be facing an opponent with a scoring average of 90 or more points per game. Independence averages 90.3 points per game and shoots 45.3 percent.

Tim Dalger is Independence's leading scorer at 15.8 points per game. Madison Monroe come off the bench to average 15.5 points per game.

Hutchinson enters the game riding a 13-game winning streak against the Pirates. The Blue Dragons defeated Independence 85-83 last season in Independence. Baker had a career-high seven 3-pointers and 29 points against the Pirates last season.

Hutchinson leads the overall series with the Pirates 49-23, including 12-10 in Independence.

Blue Dragon Women face another tough road test at Independence

Beverly White, 79, formerly of Hutchinson, died Feb. 7, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Texas. She was born Sept. 1941, to Charles R. and Opal O. Culver.

Beverly graduated from Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community College. She was a lifelong resident of Hutchinson until 16 months ago when she lived with her daughter and family in Houston, Texas.&nbsp; She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, active in the United Methodist Women, and served on various church committees and organizations.&nbsp; In addition, Beverly volunteered at the American Red Cross Blood Mobile, Fair Price Clothing, and Sew ‘N Sews.&nbsp; She was named Reno County’s “Hometown Hero” in 2014.&nbsp; Beverly worked for Dillons, Collingwood Grain, and the Kansas State Fair.&nbsp; Her most cherished job was a stay-at-home mother for many years.

Beverly married Richard (Dick) Caywood in 1962, and they had three children: Richard (Rick), Timothy (Tim), and Julie. In 1981, she married Thornton (Todd) White, who had four adult children: Debbie, Ty, Marsha, and Hoby.

Beverly is survived by: children, Rick (Rondi) Caywood, Tim (Jenny) Caywood, all of Hutchinson, Julie (Wes) Cooper of Tomball, TX, Debbie (Mike) Zarnowski, and &nbsp;Marsha (Jim) Barnes, both of Hutchinson; brother, Robert Culver of Hutchinson; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: Todd, after sharing 39 years of marriage; her parents; a sister, Mary Beth (Friesen) Simpson; and sons, Hoby White and Ty White.&nbsp;

Funeral service will be at Elliott Mortuary, Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., with the Reverend Mic McGuire officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Sylvia Sue Morley, 80, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 6, 2021, at her home. She was born Dec. 10, 1940, in her home in rural Chase County, to Allen and Alice (McCracken) Bond.

Sylvia graduated from Matfield Green High School and Friends Bible College. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in Education from Emporia State University. Sylvia’s teaching career spanned 43 years as she taught English at the middle school, high school, and college levels at Lyons, Valley Center, Belleville, Dighton, Utica, Chase County, and Barclay College.

She was an avid reader and quilter, and enjoyed needlework of all kinds. Sylvia was a member of Hutchinson Friends Church and was very involved in Friends Women and One Mission Society. She was a church pianist for many years and her ultimate piano experience was accompanying the Barclay College Choir one semester.

Sylvia’s biggest accomplishment was her daughter, Nancy. She loved being a part of her life by attending all of her activities and sporting events. Once Sylvia’s grandchildren came along, that just added another delight to her life.

Sylvia married Loren D. Morley in 1977. He died in 1990.

She is survived by daughter, Nancy Whiteman and husband Mark of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Rebecca, Austin, Nicholas, Lukas Whiteman; and 12 first cousins.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda Bond; stepsister, Vonna Fine; and stepbrother, Virgil Scott.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at Hutchinson Friends Church, 1200 E 14th&nbsp;Ave. Burial will be 3 p.m. in Homestead Cemetery, Cedar Point. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Ineta Ruth Studebaker, 100, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 5, 2021, at Hospice House. She was born Jan. 10, 1921, in Windom, Ks. to Walter and Edna (Bengston) Neel.

Ineta graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1938, attended Hutchinson Community College and graduated from Kansas State University. On June 11, 1945, she married John Thomas Studebaker, in San Francisco, California. He passed away May 8, 2010.

Ineta and Tom owned and operated the “Studebaker Jewelry Store” in Haven, Ks. for many years. Later, Ineta worked as an accountant for Krause Plow Corporation.

Tom and Ineta were instrumental in establishing the Haven Church of Christ in 1977.&nbsp;

Ineta loved quilting and traveling. She was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson.

Ineta is survived by sons, John Studebaker, Lenexa, Ks., David (Susan) Studebaker, Valley Center, Ks., Greg (Carol) Studebaker, Gladstone, Missouri; daughter, Nancy Fair, Wichita, Ks., 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and sister, Marlyne Nininger, Hutchinson.

Ronald Dale Johnson, 77, passed away Feb. 3, 2021, at his residence.&nbsp; He was born Oct. 14, 1943, in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Morgan Clayton and Myrtle Lillian (Satter) Johnson.

Ronald served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.&nbsp; He worked as a self-employed carpenter building homes in California, and in the Maintenance Department at Laramie County Community College, Laramie, WY.&nbsp; Ronald and his wife also served as house parents at the Cathedral Home (a home for children), Laramie, WY.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and singing karaoke.

“While we’re seeing signs of improvement locally, we feel the responsible thing to do is move these two lectures to the fall”, stated committee chair Molly McVicker. “We’re optimistic that by then we’ll be in a better position to gather to enjoy these outstanding speakers.”

Col. Mark Tillman, former commander of Air Force One, is scheduled for September 21. Tillman was chosen as the nation’s 12th Presidential Pilot and served as commander of Air Force One for eight years under President George W. Bush. The retired colonel was responsible for “the flying White House” throughout both of Bush’s terms and has edge-of-your-seat stories to share about keeping the President safe on Sept. 11, 2001, and clandestinely flying the President in and out of Iraq on Thanksgiving 2003.

Amanda Knox, scheduled for November 9, is an exoneree, journalist, public speaker, and author of the New York Times best-selling memoir, “Waiting to Be Heard”. Between 2007 and 2015, she spent nearly four years in an Italian prison and eight years on trial for a murder she didn’t commit. Amanda now works to shed light on the issues of wrongful conviction, truth seeking, and public shaming, and to inspire people towards empathy and perspective.

Dillon Lecture Series speakers rescheduled for fall 2021

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Kansas Senate bill that failed to gain any traction last year is back on its way through the state legislature. Senate Bill 13 would lift the tax lid on local taxing entities but would force them to be more transparent in how they generate funds. The bill is seen as an effort to hold local government entities more accountable financially.&nbsp;

“Technically, there’s no tax lid,” County Administrator Randy Partington said. “It’s making cities, counties, other taxing entities...any increase in taxes assessed above the revenue neutral rate they would have to go through this notification process.”

While that may sound good, for the county it will make things more difficult in other ways, especially if the budget sees a noticeable increase in financial need.

“It gets rid of the tax lid,” Partington says. “But it causes a lot of extra red tape and paperwork and process that’s going to cost cities and counties money.”&nbsp;

One good thing for taxpayers is that it will let you see how you are being taxed by each government entity and education system.

“What it does is it puts it all on one notice for all of the taxing entities that they pay for,” Partington said. “Instead of a mill levy, what they’ll see, for a $100,000 home, here’s what my taxes will be for Reno County, City of Hutchinson, Hutchinson Community College and etc.”

All government entities and education systems already post budget hearings and their numbers each year. Partington says in that aspect this will be no different.

“We’ll still publish the budget, put a public hearing notice ten days before the public hearing,” Partington said. “All taxpayers have the right currently to come and protest or comment about the budget before it’s adopted.”&nbsp;

While all government entities hold a public hearing on the budget, few if any of the public traditionally show up to speak on it.

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team held high-scoring Cloud County 40 points under its season scoring average on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons rode that defensive effort and a dominant performance in the paint to a 73-52 victory, sending the Thunderbirds to their third-straight defeat.

Hutchinson evens its Jayhawk West record at 2-2 and improves to 3-2 overall. Cloud County drops to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the Jayhawk East. The Blue Dragons travel to Independence on Wednesday.

Cloud County shot 40.7 percent for the game, but mustered only 24 points in the first half and 28 in the second half. The Thunderbirds had 17 turnovers.

Hutchinson outscored Cloud County 44-26 in the paint and outrebounded the Thunderbirds 44-22. Blue Dragon MBB turns in defensive gem to win over Cloud County

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2020-21/bios/gore_lojong_i68o">Lojong Gore</a>&nbsp;scored a career-high 17 points and the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team used a decisive second-quarter run to positively respond to the Blue Dragons' first loss of the season to Butler last Wednesday.

No. 11 Hutchinson rolled to a decisive 76-44 victory over the Thunderbirds on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons improve to 4-1 overall and are 3-1 in the Jayhawk West. Cloud County falls to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Jayhawk East. Hutchinson won its fourth-straight and fifth in the last six meetings against Cloud County.

The game was tied at 18 with 7:17 to play in the second quarter. That when Gore took over offensively and the Dragon defense asserted itself.

Gore scored nine points during a decisive 15-3 run where the Thunderbirds went scoreless for nearly four full minutes. Cloud County was held to 1 for 11 shooting with three turnovers as Hutchinson built a 33-21 lead at halftime.

The Blue Dragons turned in one of their best defensive performances this season by holding the Thunderbirds to 30 points under their 74-point season scoring average. Late first half surge pushes Blue Dragon Women past T-Birds

HUTCHINSON, Kan.—Throughout the early stages of the 2021 season, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team's defense has been put to several major tests against multiple high-scoring offenses.

Coffeyville was averaging 90 points per game. Neosho County was averaging 103 points and Butler was averaging 91.8 points per contest.

Cloud County comes to the Sports Arena Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and the Thunderbirds, under third-year head coach Jordan Altman, are averaging a robust 92.0 points per game and are No. 2 in the Jayhawk Conference in field-goal percentage at 51.7 percent.

The Blue Dragons' defense has had its struggles in the early going of the season. They have the fifth-best scoring defense at 73.8 points per game allowed, but are at the bottom of the KJCCC in 3-point defense, allowing 39.6 percent and 13.5 made 3s per game.

Hutchinson is now 2-2 and 1-2 in the Jayhawk West after a 66-65 loss on Wednesday at Butler in a game where the Dragons saw an 18-point lead in the second quarter totally disappear.

This will be the Blue Dragons' first game with fans since the KJCCC votes to let a limited number of fans to all league venues last Monday.

Blue Dragon WBB to host Cloud County

MANHATTAN, Kan.—Kansas State (5-14, 1-9 Big 12) returns to Bramlage Coliseum on Saturday, as the Wildcats begin a 2-game homestand against ranked opponents with a visit from No. 13/11 Texas Tech (13-5, 5-4 Big 12) at 3 p.m. CT. The Red Raiders will be looking to sweep the series for the second consecutive season and will attempt to win back-to-back games in Manhattan for the first time since 2005 and 2007. The Blue Dragons started day 2 of a five-match-in-three-day stretch with a 25-18, 28-26, 25-22 victory over Trinity Valley Friday morning. Hutchinson then dropped three tight sets to invitational host Missouri State West Plains, falling to the Grizzlies 25-23, 25-22, 25-22.

The Blue Dragons are now 6-5 overall heading into Saturday's two Grizzly Invitational matches against Jefferson College at 12:30 p.m. and New Mexico Military at 3 p.m. The New Mexico Military match is scheduled to be streamed by West Plains video. HutchCC Volleyball earns split on day 1 of West Plains Invitational

ARKANSAS CITY – The Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team earned its first four qualifiers for the NJCAA Indoor Championships on Friday at the Cowley Indoor Invitational.

Friday was the 2021 season opener for the Blue Dragons.

Sophomore high jumper&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/thiel_wyatt_1ibg">Wyatt Thiel</a>&nbsp;earned a second-straight trip to the NJCAA indoor championships with Cowley championship performance on Friday. Thiel tied his career high at 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches.

Sophomore distance runner and cross country first-team All-American&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/flanagan_teagan_t8g2">Teagan Flanagan</a>&nbsp;posted a personal best and national qualifying time in the 5,000 meters. He finished second in the race with a time of 15:16.36, which is the third-fastest indoor 5,000-meter time in Blue Dragon men's history.

The third qualifier was freshman sprinter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/hines_donovan_mutu">Donovan Hines</a>. He won the 60 meters in his debut as a Blue Dragon with a national qualifying time of 6.86 seconds. Hines also finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 22.59 seconds.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/johnson_erick_vwgv">Erick Johnson</a>&nbsp;was a double-event winner for the Blue Dragons on Friday, winning the triple jump with a national qualifying mark of 47-1. He also won the long jump with a distance of 22-8 1/2.

Some other top performances for the Blue Dragons on Friday were:

+ Sophomore Matt Schrag finished third in the 5,000 meters with a PR time of 15:44.53, the fifth-fastest indoor 5,000 time in Blue Dragon history. Schrag was sixth in the Mile run in 4:53.73.

+ Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/delaney_cameron_pdnz">Cameron Delaney</a>&nbsp;placed second in the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:43.78. He was third in the Mile run in a time of 4:39.71.

+ Freshman Zac Biel was runner-up in the high jump after clearing 6-2 3/4.

+ Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/skelton_brock_4uqn">Brock Skelton</a>&nbsp;was third in the triple jump with a distance of 40-6 1/2. He was fourth in the long jump at 20-6 1/2.

+ Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/thompson_clyedterrious_jb8p">Clyedterrious Thompson</a>&nbsp;was third in the long jump at 21-9 1/2.

The Blue Dragons have one more meet scheduled before the Region VI Championships in two weeks in Pittsburg. That will be Sunday, February 14 once again at Cowley College in Arkansas City.

He finished second in the race with a time of 15:16.36, which is the third-fastest indoor 5,000-meter time in Blue Dragon men's history.The third qualifier was freshman sprinter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/hines_donovan_mutu">Donovan Hines</a>. He won the 60 meters in his debut as a Blue Dragon with a national qualifying time of 6.86 seconds. Hines also finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 22.59 seconds.<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/johnson_erick_vwgv">Erick Johnson</a>&nbsp;was a double-event winner for the Blue Dragons on Friday, winning the triple jump with a national qualifying mark of 47-1. He also won the long jump with a distance of 22-8 1/2.Some other top performances for the Blue Dragons on Friday were:+ Sophomore Matt Schrag finished third in the 5,000 meters with a PR time of 15:44.53, the fifth-fastest indoor 5,000 time in Blue Dragon history. Schrag was sixth in the Mile run in 4:53.73.+ Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/delaney_cameron_pdnz">Cameron Delaney</a>&nbsp;placed second in the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:43.78. He was third in the Mile run in a time of 4:39.71.+ Freshman Zac Biel was runner-up in the high jump after clearing 6-2 3/4.+ Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/skelton_brock_4uqn">Brock Skelton</a>&nbsp;was third in the triple jump with a distance of 40-6 1/2. He was fourth in the long jump at 20-6 1/2.+ Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2020-21/bios/thompson_clyedterrious_jb8p">Clyedterrious Thompson</a>&nbsp;was third in the long jump at 21-9 1/2.The Blue Dragons have one more meet scheduled before the Region VI Championships in two weeks in Pittsburg. The Blue Dragon offense exploded in Game 2 with six home runs and a single-inning record 15-run second as Hutchinson roared to a 27-0 win in five innings in the nightcap.The Blue Dragons (2-0) earn their second-straight season-opening doubleheader sweep. Last season the Dragons swept Allen at TRYC in Wichita.The Blue Dragons' 27-run outburst tied for the second-most runs in modern-day Blue Dragon softball history. Hutchinson also had 27 runs against Brown Mackie in 2014 and Pratt in 2019. The single-game record is 28 runs.The six home runs in Game 2 were the third-most homers hit in single-game Blue Dragon history. That record is seven homers since in 2018 against the Bethany College JV and tied last season at Colby. Four different freshman homering in the same game is also a Blue Dragon record.Hutchinson's 15-run second inning surpassed the 14-run third inning against Brown Mackie on April 16, 2008. Hutchinson sent 18 batters to the plate and collected 11 of its 20 total hits in that inning.Collins became the first Blue Dragon to homer in her first collegiate at-bat since Kiara DeCrane in 2018.Lost in all that was the fact that with her third-inning stolen base, sophomore catcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2020-21/bios/williams_lexi_p2uv">Lexi Williams</a>&nbsp;became the Blue Dragons' career stolen base leader. Williams is now 30 for 30 in stolen bases for her career, doing so in just 25 career games. Williams was tied with Jessica Glenn (2008-09) for the career lead heading into the season. Williams also extended her school-record hitting streak to 23 games, dating back to last season.Grimes had a huge day in her Blue Dragon debut, going a combined 6 for 8 in the doubleheader. She was 4 for 5 with five runs scored and five RBIs in the second game.Head went 2 for 3 with five RBIs and a pair of runs scored in the second game as Hutchinson pounded out 20 total hits, eight going for extra bases.Williams,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2020-21/bios/bevan_natalie_gq93">Natalie Bevan</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2020-21/bios/dunn_kylee_bdh1">Kylee Dunn</a>&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2020-21/bios/schumacher_caitlin_8njz">Caitlin Schumacher</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2020-21/bios/pennycuff_bailey_j9zj">Bailey Pennycuff</a>&nbsp;all had two hits each. Schumacher had a triple. Pennycuff was 4 for 4 combined in the doubleheader.Pitchers&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2020-21/bios/galliher_jordan_2rxp">Jordan Galliher</a>&nbsp;and Mequela Guajardo combined for a one-hit shutout in Game 2. Galliher, who pitched a perfect game in her Blue Dragon debut on Opening Day last season, didn't allow a hit or run over three innings to earn the victory. She struck out four and walked two. Guajardo allowed a one-out hit in the fourth inning to Mekenzie Sample, but quickly erased that with an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play started by Grimes. Guajardo and three strikeouts in her two innings of work.GAME 1 RECAP The first game was played in a crisp 1 hour, 36 minutes and was dominated by the pitchers for both teams.Loney went a career-long six innings and had a career-high nine strikeouts. She allowed just two hits and walked three. Loney had only one inning with multiple baserunners, which came in the sixth. Loney got some defensive help and Williams threw out Reagan Maple trying to steal second and Grimes ended the inning with a strong charge and throw to first on a slow-hit ground ball to her left by Haven Kelly.Bailey came in to pitch the seventh. After Fort Scott's leadoff batter reached on an error, Bailey struck out the next three Greyhounds to earn her first career save.The Blue Dragons scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings in a seven-hit performance against Fort Scott pitcher Chelsi Boydston, who struck out four and walked none in six innings.The Dragons got on the board with an unearned run in the second. After Dunn tripled to center, she scored on a bad throw one batter later. Williams singled home Pennycuff in the third.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2020-21/bios/way_alexis_61jv">Alexis Way</a>&nbsp;hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Schumacher in the fifth to make it 3-0.Grimes and Pennycuff had two hits each in Game 1.
