WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team earned a split of its first two matches on Friday at the Grizzly Invitational at the West Plains Civic Center.
The Blue Dragons started day 2 of a five-match-in-three-day stretch with a 25-18, 28-26, 25-22 victory over Trinity Valley Friday morning. Hutchinson then dropped three tight sets to invitational host Missouri State West Plains, falling to the Grizzlies 25-23, 25-22, 25-22.
The Blue Dragons are now 6-5 overall heading into Saturday's two Grizzly Invitational matches against Jefferson College at 12:30 p.m. and New Mexico Military at 3 p.m. The New Mexico Military match is scheduled to be streamed by West Plains video.
HUTCHINSON 3, TRINITY VALLEY 0
Sophomore Jenna Thorne posted her fifth double-double of the season against Trinity Valley with 16 kills and 18 digs.
Freshman Shadee Briggs added 12 kills, while freshman Kristina Head had five kills.
Freshman libero Shelby Reeder had a season-high 28 digs against the Cardinals.
Sophomore setter Chloe Price tallied 40 assists.
MSU-WEST PLAINS 3, HUTCHINSON 0
Thorne had her sixth double-double, but the Blue Dragons were swept in a match for the first time this season dropping all three sets to the Grizzlies by a total of seven points.
Thorne finished with 12 kills and 10 digs to lead the Blue Dragons. '
Head and freshman Shelby Murrell had five and three kills, respectively.
Murrell had six total blocks, including one solo stuff. Thorne and Head had two block assists each.
Price had her third double-double of the season with 40 assists and 12 digs. She also had four service aces.
Reeder had a team-high 15 digs.
