ST. LOUIS (AP) — Tyler O'Neill homered twice and Jack Flaherty tossed seven sharp innings as the St. Louis Cardinals beat Cincinnati 5-2. The Reds lost their seventh in a row. O'Neill, who came off the injured list on Friday after missing 13 games with a right groin strain, hit solo home runs in the second and fifth innings. The Reds' skid is their worst since an eight-game slide from March 31-April 7, 2019. Flaherty improved to 4-0. He retired the first 10 batters and allowed just three hits in a 95-pitch stint. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.

DETROIT (AP) — Danny Duffy pitched five scoreless innings, and the Kansas City Royals kept Detroit's offense quiet again in a 4-0 victory over the Tigers. A day after the Royals prevailed 2-1 in a game that took 2 hours, 10 minutes, Duffy allowed four hits while striking out eight. He's allowed one earned run in 23 innings so far this season. Hunter Dozier hit a solo homer for the AL Central-leading Royals, who have won four straight. Kansas City has allowed only three runs through the first three games of this series. The Tigers have lost nine of 10.

UNDATED (AP) — The Brooklyn Nets were able to widen their lead in the NBA's Eastern Conference following the return of one of their stars.

Kevin Durant poured in 33 points on 12 of 21 shooting in 28 minutes off the bench, helping the Nets earn a 128-119 win over the Suns. Durant missed three games after bruising his left thigh early in a loss to Miami last Sunday. He has been limited to just 25 games while the Nets have played a large portion of the season without their Big 3 of Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden in the same lineup.

Irving paced Brooklyn with 34 points and Blake Griffin added 15 as the Nets moved 1 1/2 games ahead of the 76ers.

Devin Booker scored 36 points and Deandre Ayton added 20 with 13 rebounds for the Suns, who are tied for second with the Clippers in the West and two games behind the Jazz.

— Lou Williams sank four 3-pointers in the final seven minutes, including a jumper that gave the Hawks their first lead in the second half of a 111-104 win over the Bucks. Washington tied it at 105 on Beal's 3-pointer with 4:55 remaining and closed on a 14-5 run. Backcourt mate Russell Westbrook had 14 points, 11 assists and five rebounds, ending his triple-double streak at four. 

— Malcolm Brogdon contributed 24 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the Pacers' 131-112 pounding of the Magic. Six other Pacers scored in double-figures as Edmond Sumner furnished 21 and Justin Holiday added 20. Indiana outscored Orlando 41-20 in the third quarter of its third straight win.

UNDATED (AP) — There's a new team atop the NHL's East Division. 

The Pittsburgh Penguins slid one point ahead of Washington with a 1-0 win over Boston. Tristan Jarry made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season and fourth consecutive win. Neither team scored until Jake Guentzel (GEHNT'-sul) beat rookie Jeremy Swayman 4:03 into the third period.

Pittsburgh has 14 wins and points in 16 of its last 19 games overall.

The Bruins have dropped two straight since a six-game winning streak, leaving them eight points out of first with two games in hand.

— The Lightning skated away with a 4-3 win over the Blue Jackets on Victor Hedman's goal 10 seconds into overtime. Ondrej Palat (AHN'-dray pah-LAHT') had a goal and two assists as Tampa Bay climbed within two points of Carolina for the Central Division lead. Andrei Vasilevskiy (va-sih-LEHV'-skee) stopped 19 shots for his league-leading 28th victory of the season.

— Claude Giroux (juh-ROO') scored twice in 22 seconds to force overtime and was one of three Flyers to score in a shootout as Philadelphia beat the Devils, 4-3. UNDATED (AP) — The third-longest winning streak in Oakland Athletics history has come to an end.

The A's had won 13 straight before Austin Hays hit a pair of home runs to back John Means in the Orioles' 8-1 rout of the AL West leaders. Means lowered his ERA to 1.50 by limiting Oakland to just one run on two hits with six strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. 

Cedric Mullins had three hits for Baltimore, raising his average to .350. But the game was close until Maikel (MY'-kehl) Franco homered to ignite the Birds' five-run eighth.

UNDATED (AP) — Cubs reliever Ryan Tepera has won a partial appeal of his suspension for throwing at Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff in a game on April 13. 

Tepera initially received a three-game suspension, which has been cut to two. 

— The Brewers are moving along with their plan for Christian Yelich (YEH'-lihch) after an MRI on the slugger's strained lower back showed no major issues. Yelich hasn't played since April 11 and was eligible to come off the injured list this weekend, but the 2018 NL MVP was sent back to Milwaukee to undergo the MRI.

— The Braves have sent Sean Kazmar Jr. to their alternate training site, a week after the infielder returned to the majors for the first time since 2008. The 36-year-old Kazmar became an instant feel-good story when Atlanta brought him up to the big leagues. Pitcher Drew Smyly came off the injured list and replaced Kazmar on the roster.

— The Marlins say their minor league complex in Jupiter, Florida, was shut down for the weekend after five players tested positive for COVID-19. The interruption is not expected to affect the start of the season for any of the Marlins' four full-season affiliates who begin their schedules on May 4.

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Brad Keselowski finally got that last-lap victory, winning in overtime Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway. 

Keselowski is the ninth driver to win through 10 NASCAR Cup races this season. He avenged the embarrassing Team Penske gaffe in the season-opening Daytona 500 when he and teammate Joey Logano triggered a last-lap crash.

Keselowski led just one lap in a race that featured 35 lead changes among 27 drivers. 

William Byron was second, Daytona 500 winner Michael McDowell third and Kevin Harvick a season-high fourth. 

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Colton Herta scored his fourth IndyCar victory to match the same total his father, Bryan, achieved over his own 12-year career. 

Herta started from the pole at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix and led a race-record 97 of the 100 laps to win his first race with Bryan Herta as his race strategist. 

Josef Newgarden finished second and was denied a third consecutive victory at St. Petersburg. He was followed by Team Penske teammate Simon Pagenaud (see-MOHN' PA'-zheh-noh).

Smith-Leishman wins Zurich Classic in playoff

AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman outlasted Louis Oosthuizen (WUHST'-hy-zehn) and Charl Schwartzel to win the Zurich Classic in a playoff that capped a tight and tense final round.

Smith and Leishman won with a par on their second trip up the par-5 18th after Oosthuizen pushed his tee shot into the water and narrowly missed an 11-foot putt for par.

The Australians forced the playoff by shooting a 2-under 70 in alternate-shot play at the PGA Tour's lone regular-season team event. Oosthuizen and Schwartzel began the round with a one-stroke lead, but shot a 71 with three pars and two bogeys.

HUTCHINSON, Kan.—The No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College football team was just simply defensive on Sunday against No. 3 Garden City at Gowans Stadium.

The Blue Dragons held the Broncbusters to 45 points under their season scoring average and 230 yards under their season rushing average as Hutchinson defeated Garden City 23-7.

Hutchinson improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Jayhawk Conference. Garden City falls to 4-1 and 3-1. The Blue Dragons travel to No. 9 Independence at 7 p.m. next Sunday, May 2 in Independence.

Blue Dragon head coach Drew Dallas made Blue Dragon history to become the first Hutchinson football head coach to start his career 4-0.

The Blue Dragons limited Garden City's potent offense to just seven points and 248 total yards. Hutchinson held the Busters to only 31 yards rushing – the Busters were averaging 261 rush yards per game – and Garden City quarterback Mike Irwin to 217 yards on 22 of 48 passing.

Going with a 25 mph south wind in the opening quarter, the Blue Dragons built a 10-0 lead. Hutchinson took its first drive 35 yards to the Garden City 15, where the march stalled. The Blue Dragons had another short field on its second possession. This time the Dragons covered all 53 yards when Thomas took an Ogbonna pass on a crossing pattern and powered his way into the end zone for a 48-yard touchdown reception. The Dragons lead 10-0 with 5:55 to go in the first quarter.

The Dragons later missed on a couple of scoring chances with two blocked field goals and Garden City cashed in on a Khamran Leborn 8-yard touchdown reception from Irwin to cut the Blue Dragon lead to 10-7 with 9:20 to play in the second quarter.

Hutchinson's defense held the Busters on downs twice in the second quarter. After the first stop, the Dragons found the end zone again. Blue Dragons defense dominate in top 5 win over Garden City

ST. LOUIS (AP) — John Gant earned his first victory as a starter since 2018 by throwing six strong innings and the St. Louis Cardinals sent the Cincinnati Reds to their sixth straight loss, 2-0 on a rainy afternoon. Andrew Knizner, subbing for injured catcher Yadier Molina, and Nolan Arenado each drove in a run. Dylan Carlson added three singles as St. Louis won a series for just the second time this season. After waiting out a rain delay of 2 hours, 20 minutes before throwing his first pitch, Gant allowed just three hits. He struck out five and walked two in his fourth start of the season.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Ryan O'Reilly had a hat trick to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 5-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Mike Hoffman and Ivan Barbashev also scored for St. Louis and Jordan Binnington made 28 saves as the Blues snapped a three-game skid. St. Louis had lost five straight against the Avalanche since winning at Colorado on Jan. 13 in the season opener for both teams. Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Cale Makar scored for Colorado. Devan Dubnyk made 25 saves as the Avalanche lost for just the second time in regulation since March 8, snapping a five-game winning streak. O'Reilly completed his hat trick with a late empty-netter.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was available as a "super emergency guy" on Saturday, a day after the nine-time All-Star exited early with soreness in his right foot. Manager Mike Shildt said the initial imaging on Molina's foot turned out favorably. During his at-bat in the fifth inning Friday night against Cincinnati, Molina hurt his right foot and left the game. Molina was not in the starting lineup Saturday with Andrew Knizner playing in his place. The 38-year-old Molina raised his batting average to .339 after he homered and doubled in a 5-4 win over the Reds.

DETROIT (AP) — Brady Singer pitched seven impressive innings, and the Kansas City Royals took advantage of some defensive sloppiness by Detroit in a 2-1 victory over the Tigers. Willi Castro homered for Detroit in the fifth, but that wasn't enough to overcome Kansas City's two runs in the top of that inning. Singer allowed three hits and struck out eight. Matthew Boyd was on the wrong end of this pitcher's duel, allowing one earned run and three hits in eight innings. The Tigers have lost eight of nine.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Alli Stumler had a season-high 26 kills and Kentucky won its first national championship in women's volleyball with a four-set win over Texas. The Wildcats had the nation's most efficient offense this season, and with the exception of a few hiccups early in the first set and the start of the fourth, they were in top form with Stumler and sisters Madi and Avery Skinner leading the way. After Texas forced a second match point, Stumler hammered a kill the Longhorns had no chance of handling, that ended a 20-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 victory. The Wildcats ended the season 24-1.&nbsp;

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Tommy Schuster threw two first-quarter touchdown passes and North Dakota never trailed in its 44-10 win over Missouri State in the opening round of the FCS playoffs. The Fighting Hawks won their first playoff game since moving to the FCS in 2008. North Dakota (5-1) will play at third-seeded and No. 1 James Madison in the quarterfinals. Schuster hit Garrett Maag for a 50-yard touchdown before connecting with Bo Belquist for a 38-yard score on a flea flicker to make it 14-0 and the Fighting Hawks led the rest of the way. Missouri State (5-5), under first-year coach Bobby Petrino, went 5-1 in conference play to earn a share of the Missouri Valley Conference title after the Bears won just one game in 2019.&nbsp;

UNDATED (AP) — The New York Knicks have continued their longest winning streak in about eight years, while the Philadelphia 76ers have fallen another half-game off the NBA's Eastern Conference lead.

It's a nine-game winning streak for the Knicks after Julius Randle led them to a 120-103 win over the Raptors. Randle delivered 31 points and 10 rebounds for the Knicks, who are on their longest winning streak since a 13-game run during the 2012-13 season. 

RJ Barrett added 25 points and 12 boards, while Derrick Rose added 19 to help New York take a firmer grip of fourth place in the East.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH'-nihs an-teh-toh-KOON'-poh) delivered 24 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists in just 24 minutes as the Bucks blasted the 76ers, 132-94. Antetokounmpo passed Glenn Robinson for second on the team's all-time scoring list, moving about 2,200 points behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. 

Bobby Portis added 17 points to help Milwaukee beat the 76ers for the second time in three days.

The Sixers played without Joel Embiid (joh-EHL' ehm-BEED') and absorbed their fourth straight loss to fall one game behind the East-leading Nets.

— Karl-Anthony Towns had 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Timberwolves to a 101-96 victory over the Jazz. Anthony Edwards added 23 points and nine rebounds as Minnesota knocked off the Western Conference leaders for the second time in Salt Lake City this season. Bojan (BOY'-ahn) Bogdanovic scored 30 points and made seven 3-pointers to lead Utah.

— The Mavericks completed a two-game home sweep of the Lakers by overcoming a 17-point deficit into a 108-91 victory. Luka Doncic had 18 points and 13 assists for the Mavs, who outscored Los Angeles, 62-35 in the second half. Dwight Powell scored 12 of his season-high 25 points in the fourth quarter as Dallas moved a game ahead of Portland for the all-important sixth seed in the Western Conference.

— The Heat held off the Bulls, 106-101 as Duncan Robinson made seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points. Robinson was among four Miami players with at least 20 points, but the Heat saw a 24-point lead cut to as little as two in the closing moments. Kendrick Nunn furnished 22 points, Jimmy Butler had 20 and Bam Adebayo (ad-eh-BY'-oh) added 20 with 10 assists.

— DeMar DeRozan scored 11 of his team-high 32 points in the final 7:40 and made all 12 of his free throws in the Spurs' 110-108 downing of the Pelicans. Derrick White added 22 points for the Spurs, hitting four 3-pointers. Zion Williamson led the Pelicans with 33 points and 14 rebounds, but New Orleans committed 19 turnovers and hit just 17 of their 32 free throws.

— Malcolm Brogdon scored 26 points, Caris LeVert had 25 and the Pacers had a late 12-0 run to beat the Pistons, 115-109. Edmond Sumner scored 14 of his 22 points in the first quarter to help the Pacers take a 35-25 lead. Indiana swept the season series from Detroit for the first time since 2016-17. 

UNDATED (AP) — Orlando Magic head coach Steve Clifford has tested positive for coronavirus, though he and the team are waiting on re-tests before determining if he will have to miss time.

Clifford does not expect to be cleared in time for Sunday's home game against Indiana, though no final determination has been made yet.

Clifford has received both doses of the Moderna vaccine, getting the second one on Thursday.

UNDATED (AP) — The Washington Capitals kept their lead in the NHL's East Division, but there's a new club that's taken over second place.

Daniel Sprong scored twice and Evgeny Kutznetsov had a goal and two assists as the Caps beat the Islanders for the second time in three nights, 6-3. Sprong was on the top line in place of Alex Ovechkin, who sat out the game with a lower-body injury.

Nic Dowd, Garnet Hathaway and T.J. Oshie (OH'-shee) also scored as the Capitals stayed one point ahead of Pittsburgh and three ahead of the Isles. 

The Penguins jumped ahead of the Islanders as Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust each scored their 20th goal of the season in a 4-2 victory over the Devils. Crosby's empty-netter allowed him to clinch a 16th season of averaging at least a point a game, joining Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky.

Jared McCann scored a power-play goal for the Penguins, who have 13 wins and points in 15 of their last 18 games overall.

— The Golden Knights have run their winning streak to a team-record nine games with a 5-1 victory against the Ducks. Chandler Stevenson scored twice in the first period and collected three points for the first time in his career. Shea Theodore and William Karlsson got goals against their former team to help Vegas move four points ahead of Colorado for the Western Conference lead. 

— Kirill Kaprizov (kah-REEL' kah-PREE'-zehv) scored for the fifth straight game and the Wild clinched a playoff spot with a 6-3 victory over the Sharks. Ryan Suter scored 19 seconds in before Marcus Foligno and Jared Spurgeon tallied later in the first period. Kevin Fiala (fee-AH'-lah) and Nick Bonino also scored for Minnesota and Kaapo Kahkonen (KAH'-poh KAHK'-ah-nehn) made 27 saves.

— Aleksander Barkov scored 24 seconds into overtime to give the Panthers a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes. Florida's MacKenzie Weegar had a goal and two assists to help the Panthers win for just the second time in eight meetings against Carolina. Florida also pulled within one point of the Central Division-leading Canes, although Carolina has two games in hand.

— Mitch Marner scored his 100th NHL goal and the Maple Leafs stretched their lead in the North Division to eight points over Winnipeg by downing the Jets, 4-1. John Tavares and Joe Thornton also tallied, Alexander Kerfoot added an empty-netter and Jack Campbell made 25 saves for Toronto. Thornton, at 41 years, 296 days, became the oldest player in Leafs franchise history to score. 

— Johnny Gaudreau scored twice as the Flames beat the Canadiens for the second straight night, 5-2. Milan Lucic (LOO'-cheech), Brett Ritchie and Rasmus Andersson also scored and Jacob Markstrom stopped 30 shots as Calgary improved to 6-1 versus Montreal this season. The Habs hold the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division, four points ahead of Calgary with a game in hand.

UNDATED (AP) — The Seattle Mariners continue to be among the nicest surprises during the early stages of the major league season, while the AL West-rival Oakland Athletics remain the hottest team.

Kyle Seager fell a homer shy of the cycle and Chris Flexen worked seven strong innings as the Mariners beat the Red Sox for the second time in three days, 8-2. Seager singled, doubled and tripled in his first three at-bats while driving in three. He had two chances to complete the cycle before striking out and fouling out.

Flexen struck out seven while limiting the Red Sox to one run and four hits, helping the M's improve to 13-8.

The A's earned their 13th straight victory since an 0-6 start as Jed Lowrie hit a three-run homer in their 7-2 victory over the Orioles. Matt Olson and Mark Canha had two hits and two RBIs apiece for Oakland, which enjoys its third-longest winning streak.

Chris Bassitt allowed two runs and eight hits with one walk over six innings to get the win.

— Gerrit Cole was one pitch better than Shane Bieber in a heavyweight matchup of aces as Rougned Odor (ROOG'-nehd oh-DOHR') and Aaron Hicks homered off Cleveland's Cy Young winner in the fifth inning, giving the Yankees a 2-1 win over the Indians. Cole struck out 11 and allowed just three hits in seven innings to beat Bieber in a rematch of their meeting in last year's playoffs. 

— Third baseman Cavan Biggio (KAV'-an BIH'-zhee-oh) let a grounder go between his legs in the eighth inning, allowing the tiebreaking run to score in the Rays' 5-3 win over the Blue Jays. Mark Brosseau and Mike Zunino homered for the Rays, who overcame Randal Grichuk's (GRIH'-chuhks) three-run blast in ending a four-game losing streak.

— The White Sox blew a ninth-inning lead before Nick Madrigal provided a game-ending double to complete Chicago's 2-1 win over the Rangers. Willie Calhoun tied it in the ninth with his first homer of the season, a drive off Liam off Hendriks.

— The Astros blew out the Angels, 16-2 as Kent Emanuel worked 8 2/3 innings in relief in his major league debut after starter Jake Odorizzi left the game. Alex Bregman crushed a three-run homer, Yordan (yohr-DAHN') Alvarez had a season-high four RBIs, Carlos Correa homered among his three hits and Michael Brantley doubled three times for Houston. 

— Brady Singer tossed three-hit ball while fanning eight over seven innings of the Royals' 2-1 win over the Tigers. A pair of fifth-inning miscues allowed Kansas City to score twice before Willi Castro homered for Detroit to cap the scoring.

— The Pirates were 6-2 winners over the Twins as Michael Perez delivered three hits and three RBIs. Trevor Cahill permitted one run and two hits in six innings, his longest outing in almost two years.

— Pinch-hitter Manny Piña (PEEN'-yah) launched a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the seventh inning to send the Brewers past the Cubs, 4-3. Keston Hiura (HEEr'-uh) had three hits and Kolten Wong finished with two as the Brewers bounced back from a 15-2 loss in the series opener Friday.

Altuve waits to return after positive COVID-19 test

UNDATED (AP) — Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (al-TOO'-vay) says he tested positive for COVID-19 but he never felt bad and hopes to return to the lineup soon. 

The 2017 AL MVP was among five Astros placed on the COVID-19 list on April 14. The other four players returned to the roster within a few days, but Altuve remained on the list until Friday. 

Altuve says he received the first dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine before testing positive, and that he has no idea how he contracted the virus. 

— Astros newcomer Jake Odorizzi (oh-duh-REE'-zee) exited his start against the Angels after just five pitches because of tightness in his right forearm. Odorizzi entered the game 0-2 with a 10.57 ERA in two starts this season. 

— Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich (YEH'-lihch) is returning to Milwaukee for an MRI on his strained lower back. The 2018 NL MVP had been eligible to be activated from the injured list for this weekend's series with the Chicago Cubs. Manager Craig Counsell says that Yelich hit a "plateau" in his recovery. 

Oosthuizen-Schwartzel surge to 3rd-round lead

AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Louis Oosthuizen (WUHST'-hy-zehn) and Charl Schwartzel birdied six of their final eight holes Saturday to shoot a 9-under 63 and take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Zurich Classic. The South African duo are at 19-under.

Australians Marc Leishman (LEESH'-muhn) and Cameron Smith also shot a 63 in the best-ball round to move into a tie for second at 18 under with Cameron Champ and Tony Finau (FEE'-now), who shot a 67. 

The tournament will close with an alternate-shot round.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Brooke Henderson rallied to win the HUGEL Air Premia LA Open for her 10th LPGA Tour title.

Henderson chipped in for birdie on the par-3 12th in an early back-nine burst and getting up-and-down for par on the last.

Four strokes behind leader Jessica Korda and three back of top-ranked Jin Young Ko entering the final round at Wilshire Country Club, Henderson closed with her second straight 4-under 67 for a one-stroke victory over Korda.

Cowley had been a high-flying offensive unit all tournament long. If you had told them before the contest that the first one to 100 would win, they would have liked their chances. They didn't get there. Coffeyville won the 2021 NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament 108-99.

Ultimately, the game came down to an official's review of an out of bounds play with 21.9 seconds left. The original call on the floor was out of bounds off Cowley's Clarence King with Cowley down just three at 102-99 and it was upheld on review. Cowley didn't score again.

No one could have foreseen that a Love Bettis basket to break a 15 all tie that gave the Red Ravens the lead at the 13:40 mark of the first half would be a lead they wouldn't relinquish, though the Tigers nearly climbed out of a hole that was as large as 64-40 at the 19:04 mark of the second half.

HUTCHINSON, Kan.—It's an all-Jayhawk Conference East final - in the national
championship game!

Cowley and Coffeyville both won their semifinal games in the
2021 NJCAA Men's National Championship Tournament.&nbsp; They will face each
other in the title game at 6pm on Saturday. Tickets are sold out for the event.

The only time teams from the same state have met in the Championship was 68 years ago in 1953 when El Dorado Junior College defeated Arkansas City Junior College 80-64.

Cowley was never behind in their matchup with Ranger TX, and

Cowley vs Coffeyville in all Kansas NJCAA Finals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs traded a package of picks, including the No. 31 overall selection, to the Ravens on Friday for two-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Orlando Brown. The trade also sent third- and fourth-round picks to Baltimore along with sending a second-rounder back to Kansas City. 

That means the Chiefs will not pick until Day 2, when they have two second-round choices, barring even more moves. It also means that while they could pick another offensive lineman, they also could plug holes at wide receiver, linebacker and pass rusher with their initial selection.

DETROIT (AP) — Mike Minor held Detroit hitless until the fifth inning, and Andrew Benintendi and Ryan O’Hearn homered off Casey Mize to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 6-2 victory over the Tigers.

Royals win over Tigers Friday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — If the first semifinal at the Hutchinson Sports Arena Friday night was a track meet, the second one was like a military campaign, with every inch and every basket hard-fought. 

It will be an all-Kansas final in the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament for the first time since 1953 as Coffeyville came away with a 66-63 win over Chipola.

Larry White's basket through contact for Coffeyville at the 7:25 mark of half number one tied it at 14 and it was a back and forth affair thereafter until intermission.

It looked like Blaise Keita's dunk would leave Coffeyville with a halftime advantage, but Chipola's Carlos Lemus was fouled in the act of shooting a three and hit all three free throws to give the Indians a 29-28 lead and Keita was fouled just before halftime but missed both.

After the teams traded points to leave Chipola up one early in the second half, Tylor Perry's two of three free throws sparked a 12-0 Red Raven run to push Coffeyville out to a 42-31 lead at the 15:10 mark. 

Chipola took the lead at the 8:24 mark at 49-47 after a 18-5 run of their own, with Coffeyville committing a series of turnovers.

The Red Ravens answered back with a big three to take back the lead and then Lemus committed an offensive foul to give the ball back. Another three gave Coffeyville a four-point lead, but Chipola answered with a putback by Jo Smith to cut it to two. The Red Ravens made one free throw and then the Indians fed Smith again and he finished the old-fashioned three-point play to tie it at 54 with 5:40 to go.

A tip-in by Nae'qwan Tomlin gave Chipola the lead, then Love Bettis hit a wing three to put Coffeyville back up 57-56 at 4:00 to play. Brittingham had a follow dunk at the 3:26 mark to get the Red Raven fans on their feet and put them up three.

Bettis committed a foul away from the play and Lemus hit both ends of the one and one at the 3:19 mark to cut the game to one. A missed Coffeyville three turned into a Zachery layup and the Indians were back up one.

Lemus committed a bump on the defensive end and Perry cashed in on the one and one with 2:21 to go for a 61-60 Red Raven lead.

Keita goaltended a Lemus shot and Chipola went back up with 2:02 to go, Perry drew another bump, this time on Dontae Walker and cashed in both of a double bonus to turn it back the Red Ravens' way.

Naheem McLoed missed a layup, but the whistle blew and Keita was charged. McLoed missed both charities and Perry looped in a teardrop with just over a minute to go to extend the Red Raven lead to three.

Perry then was called for a blocking foul on the defensive end and Lemus headed to the line. He missed the first, but made the second. Perry ran the clock down and missed a three, the Chipola rebound gave them a chance to tie or win. 

They didn't even get a shot. The ball was tipped in the middle of the lane and Brittingham came out with it as the Red Ravens made the steal and survived, with Perry making one of two on the other end. Chipola's heave at the horn wasn't close.

The Red Ravens were led in scoring by Love Bettis with 17 points, Tylor Perry added 11, Blaise Keita had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

For the Indians, they were led by Carlos Lemus with 27 points, Jaeden Zackery had 17 in the losing effort.

Coffeyville will play Cowley for the championship. The Indians end their season at 23-5.

Arkansas City Junior College and El Dorado Junior College met back in 1953 at the Sports Arena. Tip time is at 6 p.m.

Coffeyville grinds out semifinal win to set up first all-Kansas NJCAA final since 1953

HUTCHINSON, Kan. —&nbsp;Cowley College used hot outside shooting to open up the inside of the offense early and Ranger College just couldn't keep up as the Tigers won 116-97 Friday night in the semifinals of the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The Tigers shot 20 of 44 from three-point range and had five players in double figures. Dalen Ridgnal had 26 points and 14 rebounds and a pair of rim-rattling dunks, Cevin Clark added 22, Moun'tae Edmonson had 19, Mikel Henderson had 16 and Shemarri Allen added 14. 

Cowley led by 13 at the break 55-42 and Ranger narrowed the margin to as close as seven at 66-59 at the 16:00 mark before Cevin Clark made two technical free throws and backed it up with a made three to extend the lead out to 12.

Ranger trimmed it back to eight at 12:13 to play, but then Trey Tennyson committed his fourth foul and Henderson made both free throws to stretch the lead back to double digits. After a Ranger free throw, Dalen Ridgnal hit a three at the 11:36 mark and Ranger never got closer than nine after that.

The bright spot for the Rangers was Keisei Tominaga, he had 26. Also in double figures for Ranger College was Nika Metskhvarishvili with 22 and Tennyson with 16.

Cowley College will face the winner of Coffeyville and Chipola in the final on Saturday night. Ranger College ends its season at 22-5.
