HUTCHINSON, Ks– What an afternoon for the KJCCC! At the NJCAA Men’s National Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson KS, the Cowley Tigers and the Coffeyville Red Ravens both advanced to the semifinals with victories today.
Cowley knocked off the top-seeded and undefeated Mineral Area MO in a tight 105-101 game. Cowley was down 25 points in the second half, but put together three big runs to finally pull ahead. Cowley (23-4) was led by Dalen Rignal with 26 points, Moun’tae Edmundson with 23, and Mikel Henderson’s 22. Guard Cevin Clark played 37 minutes and pitched in 15 points. Mineral Area finished the season at 24-1. On Friday evening, Cowley will play the winner of the Thursday all-Texas quarterfinal between Ranger and South Plains.
The Coffeyville Red Ravens (25-3) needed overtime to knock off second-seeded Northern Oklahoma -Tonkawa 83-80. The game was tight throughout, with Markeith Browning keeping Coffeyville close. Browning finished with a game-high 23 points. Coffeyville outscored Tonkawa 12-9 in the extra period. 6-10 Nebraska signee Blaise Keita finished with 19 points and six rebounds. The Red Ravens on Friday evening meet the winner of the Thursday tournament nightcap between Chipola FL and Indian River State FL.
