(AP) — Chiefs general manager Brett Veach made a stress-free start to the NFL draft when he traded the No. 31 pick to the Ravens earlier this week as part of a package that landed them two-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Orlando Brown. The trade filled their most glaring hole but it also left the Chiefs without a first-round selection. Their first pick won't come until No. 58 overall — the 26th selection of the second round — when the draft resumes Friday night. They have another pick in the second round before waiting until Saturday to conclude the draft.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Tyler O'Neill scored on David Hale's game-ending wild pitch in the 10th inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 to split their four-game series. O'Neil, the automatic runner, started on second and advanced on Andrew Knizner's groundout. Hale bounced a curveball past catcher J.T. Realmuto, getting the loss in his first decision since the Phillies acquired him from the New York Yankees last August. Alex Reyes pitched two perfect innings. Matt Carpenter put the Cardinals ahead in the sixth with a three-run homer off Aaron Nola.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Ryan O'Reilly scored his second goal of the game at 3:43 of overtime and the St. Louis Blues beat the Minnesota Wild 5-4. UNDATED (AP) — Ladell Betts says the Iowa football program is the same as he remembers it 20 years ago when he was wrapping up his college career. Betts is the Hawkeyes' new running backs coach. &nbsp;He says he hasn't had any difficulty learning the offense because most of the plays are the same. Betts is the program's No. 2 career rusher and he went on to play nine seasons in the NFL. Betts, who is Black, said he followed last summer's reports about racial tension inside the program and wouldn't have taken the job if he didn't believe in Kirk Ferentz's leadership.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Anaheim Ducks goalie Ryan Miller will retire after the season, ending the 18-year career of the winningest American-born goaltender in NHL history. The 40-year-old Miller has played nearly 800 games in his career, also with Buffalo, Vancouver and St. Louis, At Anaheim, he has spent the past four seasons primarily as John Gibson's backup. Miller won the Vezina Trophy in 2010 as the NHL's best goaltender for Buffalo. Miller also was named the most valuable player and best goaltender at the 2010 Winter Olympics while leading the U.S. team to a silver medal in Vancouver.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The worst-kept secret in the NFL is now public.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have used the first overall pick in the draft to select Trevor Lawrence. The Clemson quarterback was outstanding in his three college seasons, completing 67% of his passes for 10,098 yards, 90 touchdowns and just 17 interceptions while also rushing for 943 yards. Lawrence is widely considered the best college QB prospect since Andrew Luck nearly a decade ago and will pair with new head coach Urban Meyer as the faces of the franchise.

Lawrence won a national championship as a freshman, taking game MVP honors as the Tigers hammered Alabama, 44-16. He finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting as a junior last season before entering the draft.

Quarterbacks also were taken with the next two picks as BYU's Zach Wilson went second to the Jets and North Dakota State's Trey Lance headed to the 49ers at No. 3. 

It marks just the third time quarterbacks were taken with each of the first three picks in a draft.

The Falcons used the fourth choice to land Florida tight end Kyle Pitts, and LSU wideout Ja'Marr Chase went fifth to the Bengals.

— Alabama receiver Jaylen Waddle was taken by the Dolphins with the sixth selection, reuniting him with former Crimson Tide QB Tua Tagovailoa (TOO'-uh tuhng-ah-vy-LOH'-ah).

— The first offensive lineman to be chosen was tackle Penei Sewell of Oregon, taken seventh by the Lions.

— The Panthers got secondary help by choosing South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn with the eighth pick. 

— Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain (sur-TAN') II went ninth to the Broncos.

— Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith became the sixth SEC player and third from Alabama, to be taken, going to the Eagles at No. 10.

Panthers pick up 5th-year option on DJ Moore

UNDATED (AP) — Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has reiterated that the team remains committed to quarterback Aaron Rodgers. 

ESPN reported Thursday in the hours leading up to the NFL draft that Rodgers doesn't want to return to the Packers. Gutekunst said in a statement released by the team that "we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond."

Gutekunst's statement hasn't stopped reports that have the Packers shopping the QB.

— The Steelers have signed backup quarterback Mason Rudolph to a one-year contract extension through the 2022 season. Rudolph has played in 15 games for the Steelers, most of them in 2019 when Roethlisberger went down with a right elbow injury at halftime of Week 2. Rudolph is 5-3 as a starter, completing 176 of 283 passes for 1,765 yards and 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

— The Panthers are picking up the fifth-year option on wide receiver D.J. Moore's contract, according to a person familiar with the situation. Moore has developed into the team's No. 1 receiver in his three years with the team, grabbing 208 passes for 3,156 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons for Carolina, including a career-high 1,193 yards last season.

— The Seahawks have signed former first-round defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche (kihm-DEE'-chay). He was a top prospect coming out of Mississippi, but his NFL career has been mostly a flop. His best season came in 2018 when he had a career-high 32 tackles and 4½ sacks, before a knee injury cut short his season. 

UNDATED (AP) — The Brooklyn Nets had just one of their top-3 players available against the Indiana Pacers on Thursday, but he had his most productive game of the season.

Kevin Durant poured in 22 of his season-high 42 points in the third quarter to help the Eastern Conference leaders post a 130-113 win over the Pacers. Durant hit 16 of 24 shots and had 10 assists in his eighth start since being sidelined for nearly two months with a hamstring injury. 

Alize (AL'-ih-zay) Johnson had 20 points and 21 rebounds for the Nets, who are an NBA-best 29-8 since Feb. 10.

Brooklyn leads the conference by 1 1/2 games over the 76ers following its fourth straight win.

The Bucks' shot at the No. 1 seed in the East continues to fade after a 143-136 loss to the NBA-worst Rockets. Kevin Porter torched Milwaukee for 50 points and Houston took control by outscoring the Bucks, 39-25 in the third quarter.

Khris Middleton had a team-high 33 points for the Bucks, who played all but one minute without forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH'-nihs an-teh-toh-KOOM'-poh) because of a sprained ankle. The two-time reigning MVP will be re-evaluated on Friday.

The Bucks' loss drops them 4 1/2 games behind the Nets.

Denver improved to 8-1 since Jamal Murray went down with a torn ACL in his left knee on April 12. 

— Tim Hardaway Jr. provided a career-high 42 points and the Mavericks overcame the absence of Luka Doncic (DAHN'-chihch) in a 115-105 victory over the Pistons. Hardaway scored 17 points in a row during a fourth-quarter stretch, capping that run with a 3-pointer with 1:05 remaining that put the Mavericks up 109-105. Trey Burke added 15 points for Dallas, which moved a game ahead of Portland for the No. 6 spot in the Western Conference. 

— Anthony Edwards furnished 18 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Timberwolves surprised the Warriors, 126-114. Ricky Rubio scored 26 points and Karl-Anthony Towns added 22 with 11 rebounds for the Wolves. Stephen Curry overcame early shooting struggles to finish with 37 points for Golden State.

— The Pelicans earned a 109-95 win over the Thunder behind Zion Williamson's 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Brandon Ingram added 24 points for New Orleans. Oklahoma City has dropped 15 of its last 16.

UNDATED (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins have clinched their 15th consecutive Stanley Cup playoff berth while grabbing a piece of the East Division lead.

Jake Guentzel (GEHNT'-sul) scored his 22nd goal at 2:11 of overtime to send the Penguins to a 5-4 victory over the Washington Capitals, leaving the two teams in a first-place tie. Kasperi Kapanen (kas-PEHR'-ee KAP'-ah-nehn) scored his ninth and 10th goals of the year as the Pens beat the Caps for the fifth time in seven meetings.

The Penguins were in line for a regulation win and a one-point lead in the division until Tom Wilson tallied with 14.3 seconds left in regulation. Wilson's goal also allowed the Capitals to wrap up a playoff spot.

— The Hurricanes ran their point streak to nine games as Teuvo Teravainen (TAY'-voh tehr-ah-VY'-nehn) had a goal and assist in a 3-1 verdict over the Red Wings. Brady Skjei (shay) and Warren Foegele (FOH'-gul) also scored and Sebastian Aho (AH'-hoh) registered two assists for Carolina. Canes netminder James Reimer played just his fourth game in April, making 16 saves for his team-high 15th victory.

— Blake Coleman converted a short-handed penalty shot and Andrei Vasilevskiy (va-sih-LEHV'-skee) stopped 20 shots for his 26th career shutout to lead the Lightning to a 3-0 victory against the Stars. Ondrej Palat (AHN'-dray pah-LAHT') and Brayden Point also scored for Tampa Bay, which has won four consecutive games to stay within three points of the Central Division-leading Hurricanes. The Stars remain two points behind the Predators for fourth place in the Central Division and have one game in hand.

— The Panthers recorded a 4-3 win over the Blackhawks on Sam Bennett's goal at 4:08 of OT. Alex Wennberg and Brandon Mountour each had a goal and assist for the Panthers, who improved to 7-2-1 in their last 10. The win keeps Florida two points behind first-place Carolina and one ahead of third-place Tampa Bay.

— Semyon Varlamov (SEHM'-yuhn vahr-LAH'-mahv) recorded his league-leading sixth shutout of the season by stopping 25 shots in the Islanders' first win in four games, 4-0 over the Rangers. Varlamov became the first goalie to shut out the Rangers three times at Madison Square Garden in one season. Leo Komarov (KAH'-mah-rahv), Oliver Wahlstrom, Anthony Beauvillier (boh-VIH'-lee-ay) and Mathew Barzal (bahr-ZAL') scored, and Brock Nelson and Scott Mayfield each had two assists as the Islanders got within four points of the East Division lead.

— The Bruins stayed a point behind the Isles as David Krejci (KRAY'-chee) and Brad Marchand each had a goal and an assist for Boston in a 5-2 downing of the Sabres. David Pastrnak (PAHS'-tur-nahk) scored his 199th career goal for Boston just 1:16 into the game. Charlie Coyle broke a 2-all tie on a breakaway midway through the third period for his first goal in two months.

The Flames pulled four points behind Montreal for the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division.

UNDATED (AP) — Matt Chapman has helped the Oakland Athletics leave St. Petersburg with a split of their four-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Chapman belted a solo homer and added a tiebreaking, RBI double with two out in the ninth to lead the A's past the Rays, 3-2. 

Ramón Laureano also doubled home a run as the Athletics won for the second time in five games since winning 13 in a row.

— The Mariners' four-game skid is over after Yusei Kikuchi flirted with a no-hitter and Taylor Trammell (trah-MEHL') homered in a 1-0 shutout of the Astros. Kikuchi did not allow a hit until Carlos Correa doubled to deep right-center field with one out in the seventh.

— Travis Shaw hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning off Trevor Bauer before the Brewers finished off the Dodgers, 2-1. Eric Lauer won in his first start of the season, yielding four hits over five shutout innings.

— Jose Trevino hit a tiebreaking two-run homer soon after his battery mate's final pitch, helping push Kyle Gibson and the Rangers to a 4-1 victory over the Red Sox. The Red Sox had only three hits, their fourth game in a row with five or less. 

UNDATED (AP) — Brewers right-hander Corbin Burnes is going on the injured list after a remarkable April run.

The Brewers announced the move without specifying his issue, although GM David Stearns says they are following Major League Baseball health and safety protocols.

Burnes is 2-2 with a 1.53 ERA and has recorded 49 strikeouts and no walks through 29 1/3 innings.

Bradley on fire at start of Valspar Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — Keegan Bradley missed only one green in a 7-under 64 that gives him the first-round lead at the PGA's Valspar Championship. 

Bradley ran off four birdies over his last five holes, finishing with a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th and a two-shot lead. 

Riviera winner Max Homa had eight birdies and was in a large group at 66 that included Emiliano Grillo and Ryan Moore.

Florida bill delays compensation for college athletes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — College athletes in Florida will now have to wait until July 2022 before being able to hire agents and ink endorsement deals.

A tiny last-minute amendment inserted into a 70-page education bill has delayed those athletes from cashing in on their athletic prowess. That amendment went undetected by some lawmakers, including the Florida lawmaker who sponsored a bill last year allowing college athletes in the state to profit from their name, image and likeness much like celebrities do.

That law was supposed to take effect in two months, but the amendment would instead delay the law from being implemented until July 2022.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– The pivotal stretch for the Kansas State women’s rowing team begins on Saturday (May 1), as the Wildcats renew their rivalry with Kansas in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown at Wyandotte County Lake in Kansas City, Kansas. The first of the four races in the rivalry matchup will begin at 8:30 a.m., CT.

The meet is free and open to the public with fans viewing the races from the Wyandotte County Lake Shelter 8 location. Due to COVID-19 protocols, fans will need to wear face masks covering their nose and mouth and maintain six-feet of social distancing. There is a $5 charge for parking.

The First Varsity Eight will kick things off at 8:30 a.m., CT on Saturday morning. It will be followed by the Second Varsity Eight at 8:45 a.m., CT, the First Varsity Four at 9 a.m., CT and the Second Varsity Four at 9:15 a.m., CT. The trophy presentation will be immediately following at 9:30 a.m., CT.

The rivalry matchup will be the final regular-season race before concluding the season at the Big 12 Championships on Sunday, May 16 at Decker Lake in Austin, Texas.

The two longtime rivals will race head-to-head in the Sunflower Showdown for the first time since 2019 when K-State completed a perfect showing by scoring all 22 points to post a second consecutive win over Kansas at Wyandotte County Lake. Heading into Saturday, the Wildcats have won the Sunflower Showdown in six of the last nine years, including the sweep in 2019 – a first in the rivalry since 2012.

“To be honest, I don't think about past results,” said head coach&nbsp;Pat Sweeney. “Every year is a new year. Every race is a new race. It’s best to move on to the next one. We’re happy we had that success, but that really doesn’t make any difference this weekend.”

K-State has competed against Kansas already this season in a multiple-team field at the Sunshine State Invitational in Sarasota, Florida on April 2-3. The Jayhawks placed higher in three of the four races, including a silver medal finish in the Second Varsity Eight and a bronze medal finish in the First Varsity Eight races. However, the Wildcats finished ahead by more than 22 seconds in the First Varsity Four and were close in the Second Varsity Four.

“All the results this year have been all over the place with the weather, COVID-19 and athletes missing from (racing) lineups, so it's really difficult to say what's going to happen on Saturday,” said Sweeney. “I think it's going to be close. If you went on the results from the races in Florida, they'll beat us. But it's not Florida. That’s been four or five weeks ago. I think we're in a good spot. We seem to be faster than we were in Florida.”

Kansas had a strong showing in its last outing at Iowa on April 24, as the Jayhawks never finished outside the top-4 against a competitive field that included Minnesota (No. 16), Wisconsin (tied for No. 18), Iowa (tied for No. 18) and Drake, including a bronze finish in the Second Varsity Four.

The Sunflower Showdown will be K-State’s fourth race of the season and the first since the Tulsa Triangular on April 3. The Wildcats have spent the last three weeks training for their two biggest races of the season, which cumulates with the Big 12 Championship on Sunday, May 16.

A member of the First Varsity Eight – junior&nbsp;Taylor Hartman&nbsp;– said the Wildcats have continued to train since their last race nearly a month ago in Tulsa with more of the focus in the last week on the small things that could be the difference between winning and losing the Showdown especially in what is expected to be a close set of races.

“Last week, we went pretty hard,” said Hartman. “We usually taper off right before a race. So last week, we had a lot of really, hard long workouts. And this week, we usually come off a little bit, start doing race prep. We have been working on pieces, doing our race rate and finish up and plan out primaries, tweak little things and get ready.

“We raced them earlier in the season. We beat them in our first race and then they beat us the second one. I think it'll be a really close race. Hopefully, we'll get ahead of them. But realistically, I think the last 500 are going to be the most intense part of the race, they usually blast off the last 500 and take it pretty fast. I think our boat is willing to fight and push it.”

Senior&nbsp;Natasha Johnson, who helped clinch the Sunflower Showdown in 2019 as a member of the Second Varsity Eight, said there is more excitement than pressure for this year’s races and that the squad as a whole is just happy to be able to compete again after the event was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19.

“I mean, obviously there's the rivalry that has been going on forever, but it's one of our favorites to go to especially since we've had the Cup the last two years. It was really upsetting not to be able to compete last season. We are just excited about the opportunity to race them again.

“My boat, in particular, is pretty young. Only one other girl has ever raced in the event before, so it’s just a really young boat and I’m trying to help them as much as I can.”

For redshirt freshman coxswain&nbsp;Kelsey Ladlie, this will be her first experience in the Sunflower Showdown, but it’s one that is familiar for her growing up in Troy, Missouri as well as many of her teammates. The roster lists 41 rowers from either Kansas or Missouri, including 32 from the Sunflower State.

“We're always anxious to compete against our rivals,” said Ladlie. “I know for a lot of us, this rivalry has been built since we were young. I know for me; I grew up with a Mizzou fan. My dad's a Mizzou grad. So, it was awesome when I came here, to realize there was the same level of competitiveness for KU as I had growing up, and I know that it goes the same for a lot of the girls on my team. It's been a while since we've had a race, just us. And I know, we're all like itching to go out there and show them what we got.”

Ladlie said there is a standard here of winning the Sunflower Showdown and the team is determined to uphold that standard on Saturday.

“We’ve got something to prove to hold onto the Cup,” said Ladlie. “Let’s keep the momentum going. This is our state, we want to hold on to that. And we're just excited to go out there and prove it.”

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2020-21/bios/karhayu_esther_a3vx">Esther Karhayu</a>&nbsp;scored two goals to lead the Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team to its first victory over a nationally ranked opponent in seven seasons on Wednesday.

Karhayu scored 2 minutes, 8 seconds into the game to stagger the Cougars and applied the dagger just 17 seconds into second half as Hutchinson shut out the No. 20-ranked Barton Cougars 3-0 at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

The last Hutchinson win over an NJCAA-ranked opponent came on October 17, 2014 when the Blue Dragons defeated No. 15 Butler 2-1 in overtime in El Dorado. The Blue Dragon had lost four-straight games against ranked opponent until Wednesday. The last Blue Dragon win over a nationally ranked team at the Salthawk Sports Complex was just five days before the 2014 Butler game, a 5-1 win over No. 20 NOC-Tonkawa on October 12, 2014.

Hutchinson improved to 4-2-2 overall and in the Jayhawk Conference. Barton dropped to 6-3-1 and 5-3-1. The Blue Dragons are 1-0-1 against the Cougars this season.

Hutchinson will play host to Neosho County at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

The Blue Dragons struck quickly when&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2020-21/bios/franke_marah_az58">Marah Franke</a>&nbsp;played a ball into the box that deflected off a Barton defender and Karhayu hammered the ball from about 10 feet into the goal for a 1-0 Hutchinson lead just 2:08 into the contest. Franke and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2020-21/bios/busker_cheyenne_98jn">Cheyenne Busker</a>&nbsp;were credited with assists on the first Karhayu goal of the season.

The Dragons then put the Cougars on the ropes with just seconds left before halftime.

The Dragons were awarded a corner kick with 33 seconds left in the first half after a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2020-21/bios/lawless_zara_7b5x">Zara Lawless</a>&nbsp;direct free kick was deflected over the back line by Barton goalkeeper Nia Baker.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2020-21/bios/maher_aimee_51ht">Aimee Maher</a>&nbsp;hustled to initiate the set piece and sent the corner to the near post where Baker mishandled it.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2020-21/bios/dickinson_lani_tr96">Lani Dickinson</a>&nbsp;hammered home a point-blank shot for a 2-0 Hutchinson lead with 18.8 seconds to play in the first half.

Maher picked up her second assist of the game when she intercepted a Barton defensive clearing attempt and slid a pass past two Cougar midfielders to Karhayu, who split the Barton back line and beat Baker on the ground to Baker's left for a 3-0 lead just 17 seconds into the second half.

This was Karhayu's second career multi-goal game. The first was a four-goal performance against Hesston College on September 14, 2019.

The Blue Dragon had lost four-straight games against ranked opponent until Wednesday. The last Blue Dragon win over a nationally ranked team at the Salthawk Sports Complex was just five days before the 2014 Butler game, a 5-1 win over No. 20 NOC-Tonkawa on October 12, 2014.Hutchinson improved to 4-2-2 overall and in the Jayhawk Conference. Barton dropped to 6-3-1 and 5-3-1. ST. LOUIS (AP) — Andrew McCutchen returned to the lineup and drove in the go-ahead run, helping the Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 after Bryce Harper was hit in the face by a pitch. Harper left the game in the sixth inning after getting hit in his left cheek on a 96.9 mph fastball from left-handed reliever Génesis Cabrera. The All-Star slugger picked himself up and walked off the field, blood dripping from a cut near the side of his nose. Matt Joyce came in to run for Harper, who is in the third year of a $330 million, 13-year deal.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Robert Thomas capped a three-goal third-period rally by the St. Louis Blues by scoring with 23 seconds left for a 4-3 victory over Minnesota. That stopped the Wild's seven-game winning streak. Mike Hoffman's second power play goal of the game brought the Blues within one early in the third period. Jordan Kyrou tied the game about four minutes later. Marcus Foligno had a goal and an assist for the Wild, who wasted an opportunity to move closer to the West Division lead.

UNDATED (AP) — Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez is making it a priority to cut down on his turnovers this season. Martinez lost five of seven fumbles and threw three interceptions as the Cornhuskers went 3-5 in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Fumbles in losses to Iowa and Minnesota were especially costly. Martinez has thrown 14 touchdown passes against 12 interceptions the last two seasons. He's confident he can cut down on the interceptions with better decision-making. The Huskers play their spring game Saturday.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A serious knee injury will keep Nebraska freshman tight end Thomas Fidone out until at least midseason. Coach Scott Frost made the announcement after practice Wednesday. Fidone was the top player in the Cornhuskers' 2021 recruiting class and was rated as the No. 2 tight end in the nation. He was the Huskers' highest-rated recruit since 2008. Frost said Fidone, who was hurt in a non-contact drill late last week and will have surgery Thursday. Nebraska returns its top two tight ends from 2020 in juniors Austin Allen and Travis Vokolek.

UNDATED (AP) — The Philadelphia 76ers were able to inch a half-game closer to the NBA's Eastern Conference lead while preventing the Hawks from improving their chances of getting home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Seth Curry scored 20 points and the 76ers built a huge lead in a 127-83 thrashing of the Hawks. Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid (joh-EHL' ehm-BEED') each added 17 points for the Sixers, who joined Brooklyn as the only teams in the East to wrap up a postseason berth.

The 76ers led by 20 after the first period and held the Hawks to a season low for points.

John Collins scored 21 points and Solomon Hill added 14 for Atlanta, which is one game behind the Knicks for fourth in the East.

The Knicks won for the 10th time in 11 games as Julius Randle scored 34 points in a 113-94 romp over the Bulls. RJ Barrett added 22 points as New York bounced back from its loss to Phoenix. Immanuel Quickley and Reggie Bullock each scored 13 points to help New York gain sole possession of fourth in the East.

— The Jazz bounced back from back-to-back losses by nailing 24 3-pointers in the highest scoring output in team history, a 154-105 dismantling of the Kings. Bojan (BOY'-ahn) Bogdanovic scored 24 points, Jordan Clarkson scored 23 points and Georges Niang scored 19 with five 3s for Utah. The Jazz outscored Sacramento 46-17 in the second quarter and stayed atop the Western Conference by one game over Phoenix.

— The Suns have wrapped up their first playoff berth in 11 years by defeating the Clippers, 109-101. Chris Paul scored 28 points, Devin Booker added 21 as Phoenix downed Los Angeles for the first time in three tries this season. The 35-year-old Paul shot 10 of 15 from the field and dished out 10 assists to help the Suns improve to 44-18, two games better than the Clippers for second place in the West.

— Nikola Jokic (nih-KOH'-lah YOH'-kihch) scored 32 points and blocked Zion Williamson's shot from behind with 2.2 seconds remaining as the Nuggets held off the Pelicans, 114-112. Michael Porter Jr. added 28 points and Facundo (fah-KOON'-doh) Campazzo made three critical 3-pointers down the stretch on his way to a career-high 19 points. Denver improved to 7-1 since losing guard Jamal Murray to a torn ACL.

— The Lakers lost for the fourth time in their past five games as Bradley Beal contributed 27 points and Russell Westbrook notched his 13th triple-double of the month in the Wizards' 116-107 victory against Los Angeles. Westbrook finished with 18 points, 18 rebounds and 14 assists in Washington's ninth win in 10 games, putting the Wizards two games ahead of Chicago for the final Eastern Conference play-in berth. The Wizards were up 69-67 early in the second half when they used a 16-2 run to break things open.

— Jaylen Brown poured in 38 points and Jayson Tatum chipped in 35 for the Celtics in a 120-111 downing of the Hornets. Brown has reached 30 points in three of his last five games. Tristan Thompson chipped in with 12 points and 13 rebounds for Boston, which had lost four of its last five following a six-game winning streak.

— Jimmy Butler scored 29 points, Bam Adebayo (ad-eh-BY'-oh) scored 21 and the Heat went on a 17-0 run in the second half before hanging on late to beat the Spurs, 116-111. Erik Spoelstra (SPOHL'-struh) became the 27th coach in NBA history with 600 wins, and the sixth to do so with one franchise. Miami remains seventh in the East, tied with No. 6 Boston and one game behind No. 5 Atlanta.

— CJ McCollum had 26 points and six assists for the Trail Blazers in a 130-109 thumping of the Grizzlies. Norman Powell added 24 points and Portland solidified its hold on the seventh seed in the West, two games ahead of Memphis and San Antonio. Ja (jah) Morant had 10 points and eight assists but was 3 of 11 from the field as the Grizzlies lost their second straight.

— Cole Anthony made the tiebreaking layup with 45 seconds left, and the Magic squandered a 23-point lead before edging the Cavaliers, 109-104 to snap a six-game losing streak. Gary Harris had 19 points, six rebounds and seven assists in Orlando's second victory in its last 14 games.

UNDATED (AP) — Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love has apologized for his actions during Monday's loss to Toronto. The five-time All-star was upset with the officials for some non-calls and angrily tapped the ball back into play on an inbounds pass in the third quarter. The loose ball was grabbed by the Raptors and converted into a 3-pointer.

Video of the tantrum went viral on social media, and Love was blistered by fans and media for behavior called "childish" and "unacceptable."

Love said Wednesday that his behavior was out of line and out of character, but that it had nothing to do with any frustration toward his teammates or coaches.

— Celtics guard Marcus Smart has been suspended one game without pay by the league for directing threatening language toward a game official. The incidents took place during and after Boston's 119-115 loss to the Thunder on Tuesday. The punishment was served during last night's win over Charlotte.

— The Spurs do not expect starting guard Derrick White back this season because of a sprained right ankle. Coach Gregg Popovich made the announcement two days after White was injured in the Spurs' win in Washington. The fourth-year guard is averaging a career-best 15.4 points this season for San Antonio, which played 18 of its first 19 games this season without White because of a toe injury.

— The league has fined Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. $50,000 for violating the league's health and safety rules. Porter visited a strip club in Miami last week with teammate Sterling Brown, who was assaulted outside the establishment. The league bars players from attending indoor social gatherings of 15 or more people or entering bars, lounges and clubs. 

UNDATED (AP) — The St. Louis Blues now have a three-point lead over the Arizona Coyotes and three games in hand as the teams battle for the NHL's final West Division playoff berth.

Robert Thomas tracked down a skipping puck and snapped it into the top of the net with 23 seconds left, capping a three-goal third-period rally by the Blues for a 4-3 victory over Minnesota.

The Wild were seeking their eighth straight win as they carried a 3-1 lead into the third period. But Mike Hoffman began the St. Louis rally with a power-play goal early in the third and Jordan Kyrou (KY'-roo) tied the game about four minutes later.

The Coyotes absorbed a 4-2 loss to the Sharks as Evander Kane reached the 20-goal mark for the sixth straight season. Kane's goal started a three-goal barrage for San Jose in the first period with Rudolfs Balcers (BAHL'-surs) and Kevin Labanc (lah-BANK') following up. Josef Korenar made 28 saves to win his second straight start.

— The Golden Knights widened their lead in the West Division as Max Pacioretty (pash-uh-REH'-tee) scored twice in a 5-2 win over the second-place Avalanche. Vegas has won a franchise-best 10 in a row to move six points ahead of Colorado, with the Avs having a game in hand. The Knights have outscored teams 45-17 during their win streak.

— The Maple Leafs are the first Canadian team to claim a playoff berth following their 4-1 win over Montreal. Matthews got his NHL-best 35th goal of the season, which also got scores from William Nylander (NEE'-lan-dur), Jake Muzzin (MUH-zihn) and Adam Brooks. Morgan Rielly and Jason Spezza each had two assists, and Jack Campbell had 32 saves for the North Division leaders.

— Connor McDavid had three assists and the Oilers scored a pair of power-play goals in a 3-1 win versus the Jets. Tyson Barrie and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each had a goal and an assist as Edmonton dealt Winnipeg its season-high fifth straight loss. Oilers netminder Mikko Koskinen (MEE'-koh KAHS'-kih-nehn) posted 29 saves to collect his 11th win of the season. 

— Brady Tkachuk (kah-CHUHK') had a Gordie Howe hat trick as he fought Zack MacEwen eight minutes into the game before registering a goal and an assist in the second period of the Senators' 6-3 victory over the Canucks. Victor Mete (MEH'-tay), Chris Tierney, Thomas Chabot (shah-BAHT') and Colin White also scored for last-place Ottawa, which was 16-26-4 before taking three of four from Vancouver. The Canucks are 10 points out of a playoff berth but have five games in hand on fourth-place Montreal for the final North Division postseason slot. 

— Cam Fowler provided the game-winner with 1:01 remaining and the Ducks ended a five-game losing streak by defeating the Kings. 3-2. Sam Carrick and Sam Steel also scored and John Gibson made 28 saves for the Ducks.

UNDATED (AP) — Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin practiced on Wednesday, indicating he is near a return from a lower-body injury that's kept him out since mid-March.

Malkin wore a white "no contact" jersey during Pittsburgh's skate. However, coach Mike Sullivan said the Russian star was a full participant and will travel with the Penguins when they begin a four-game road trip on Thursday in Washington.

The Pens are 14-5-2 since Malkin's last game on March 16.

— The Canadiens say forward Jonathan Drouin (DROO'-an) is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team for personal reasons. Drouin has 23 points in 44 games this season, missing Montreal's past three contests with a non-COVID related illness.

Kershaw shines, Dodgers end losing streak

UNDATED (AP) — Clayton Kershaw played the role of stopper to perfection this afternoon as the Los Angeles Dodgers ended their first three-game losing streak of the season.

Kershaw racked up eight strikeouts while limiting the Reds to four hits over seven innings of the Dodgers' 8-0 shutout. The lefty prevented L.A. from dropping four straight for the first time since 2018.

The Dodgers led just 2-0 before scoring six times in the eighth. Matt Beaty and Mookie Betts delivered two-run singles in the eighth.

Justin Turner homered and Chris Taylor added an RBI triple as Los Angeles won for just the third time in 10 games since a sizzling 13-2 start.

— Manny Machado hit a bases-loaded triple while the Padres scored six times in the fifth inning of a 12-3 drubbing of the Diamondbacks. Fernando Tatis (tah-TEES') Jr. and Kim Ha-Seong each had two hits and two RBIs as San Diego overcame starter Ryan Weathers' early injury.

— Mike Tauchman had three hits and an RBI in his first game with the Giants, a 7-3 victory against the Rockies. Alex Wood struck out nine over six innings and held Colorado hitless over the first 5 2/3s.

— Huascar Ynoa (hoo-AHS'-kahr ee-NOH'-ah) pitched 5 1/3 strong innings and belted his first career homer as the Braves battered the Cubs, 10-0. Freddie Freeman went 4 for 5 with a homer, Marcell Ozuna (oh-ZOO'-nah) went deep in a four-run first and Austin Riley left the yard as Atlanta dealt the Cubs their fifth straight loss.

— Andrew McCutchen returned to the lineup and singled home the go-ahead run in the Phillies' 5-3 win at St. Louis. Phils outfielder Bryce Harper had to leave the game after being hit on the left cheek by a 97 mph fastball.

— The Marlins knocked off the Brewers, 6-2 as Jesús Aguilar homered for the fifth time in his last six games. Aguilar's tiebreaking, three-run shot off Eric Yardley with two out in the fourth inning put Miami ahead for good as the Marlins won the three-game series.

— Jorge Soler (HOHR'-hay soh-LEHR') had two doubles among his three hits and drove in three runs to lead the stunning Royals to a 9-6 win over the Pirates. Soler's doubles sparked three-run rallies in the first and sixth innings to help Kansas City improve to a major league-best 15-8.

— Christian Vázquez hit an early RBI double off Jacob deGrom to send the Red Sox to a 1-0 win over the Mets. Nick Pivetta and three relievers combined on a two-hitter as the surprising AL East leaders swept a two-game interleague series at Citi Field and improved to 16-9. 

— Domingo Germán (hehr-MAHN') won his second straight start, working seven innings and combining with Michael King on a four-hitter in the Yankees' 7-0 shutout of the Orioles. Mike Ford's second-inning homer put the Yanks on top, Gio Urshela (ur-SHEH'-lah) added a three-run blast and Clint Frazier belted his first home run in 69 at-bats this season.

— Mike Zunino (zoo-NEE'-noh) smacked a go-ahead homer and Tyler Glasnow struck out 10 in seven innings of the Rays' 2-0 blanking Oakland. Glasnow gave up five hits and two walks, dealing the Athletics their third loss in four games following a 13-game winning streak.

— Erick Fedde (FEH'-dee) went six strong innings and Josh Harrison hit a three-run homer as the Nats earned an 8-2 win over Toronto in George Springer's Blue Jays debut. Fedde allowed one run and two hits while helping Washington keep Springer hitless in four at-bats.

— Byron Buxton homered on Logan Allen's second pitch and went 5 for 5 with a pair of doubles as the Twins ripped the Indians, 10-2. Mitch Garver supplied two of Minnesota's six home runs after Buxton, Josh Donaldson and Jorge Polanco hit first-inning blasts. 

— Anthony Rendon (rehn-DOHN') and Jose Iglesias hit two-run singles in the first to jumpstart the Angels' 4-3 win at Texas. Rookie Chris Rodriguez pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings for the win after Alex Cobb was reached for three runs in two-plus frames.

— Pinch-hitter Jason Castro drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Astros in front during a four-run eighth that pushed them to a 7-5 win over the Mariners. An error by first baseman Evan White allowed Kyle Tucker to come home on a fielder's choice, sparking the late rally.

— The Tigers and White Sox were rained out in Chicago and will make it up as part of a straight doubleheader Thursday.

UNDATED (AP) — Drew Lock suddenly has competition at quarterback after the Denver Broncos acquired Teddy Bridgewater from the Carolina Panthers for a sixth-round pick in this week's NFL draft.

Bridgewater became available when the Panthers traded for former Jets QB Sam Darnold three weeks ago. Bridgewater went 4-11 as the Panthers' starter last year and struggled to win close games down the stretch. 

Lock tied for the league lead with 15 interceptions in 13 starts and his passer rating ranked 32nd in the NFL last season. The third-year pro was 4-9 overall with 16 touchdown throws and is 8-10 in two years as Denver's starter.

— A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press that receiver Antonio Brown has agreed to return to the Buccaneers on a one-year contract that could be worth up to $6.5 million, including incentives. Bringing back Brown ensures Tom Brady will pursue an eighth Super Bowl ring with the entire "band" of offensive playmakers assembled around the 43-year-old quarterback last season.

— The Giants have picked up the fifth-year option on the rookie contract for running back Saquon (SAY'-kwahn) Barkley. The 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year is recovering from a torn right ACL suffered in Week 2 of last season. The No. 2 overall draft pick in 2018 ran for 1,307 yards that season and caught 91 passes for 721 yards. 

— The Colts have exercised the fifth-year option on perennial All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson's rookie contract. The No. 6 overall pick in the 2018 draft has started all 48 games at left guard for the Colts. Nelson is the first offensive lineman since the 1970 merger to earn All-Pro honors each of his first three seasons. 

— The Lions have exercised the fifth-year contract option on Pro Bowl offensive lineman Frank Ragnow. He is entering his fourth NFL season after being drafted in the first round out of Arkansas. Ragnow has started all 45 games in which he has appeared and received his first Pro Bowl berth last season. 

Atlanta teams get green light to go to full capacity

UNDATED (AP) — Atlanta's two biggest outdoor pro sports stadiums will both allow 100% capacity at events beginning next month.

The Braves said they will return to normal capacity at Truist Park beginning May 7, when they face the Phillies to begin their third homestand of the season.

The team allowed 33% capacity for their first homestand and ramped up to 50% for their current homestand.

Officials said Mercedes-Benz Stadium will return to 100% capacity beginning May 15 when Atlanta United hosts an MLS match against CF Montreal.

overall. 

The Cowboys
finished with a four-round total of 1129 (+9) at the 6,947-yard, par-70 Prairie
Dunes Country Club to earn the Big 12’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I
Men’s Golf Championship. The Sooners placed second at 1130 (+10) and the
Longhorns were third with an 1131 (+11) after the three squads entered the
final round in a first-place tie. The two strokes separating the top three
teams is the fewest in Big 12 Championship play. 

Cole Hammer
claimed medalist honors, UT’s seventh in Big 12 Championship history and 40th
overall. With a three-way tie also existing in the individual race entering the
day, the senior fired a three-under par 67 to finish with a four-round total of
276 (-4). OU’s Quade Cummins and OSU’s Bo Jin were one stroke back to tie for
second at 277 (-5). Texas Tech’s Ludvig Aberg also finished the tournament
under-par to place fourth with a 279 (-1). The Cowboys’ Austin Eckroat recorded
a 65 in the final 18 holes to tie Hammer’s third round score for the low of the
Championship. He moved up three spots to place fifth at 282 (+2). A total of 15
student-athletes finished in the top 10 to earn All-Tournament honors.

I Men’s Golf Selection Show will be televised by the Golf Channel on Wednesday,
May 5 at 1 p.m. CT.

276 (-4). OU’s Quade Cummins and OSU’s Bo Jin were one stroke back to tie for
second at 277 (-5). Texas Tech’s Ludvig Aberg also finished the tournament
under-par to place fourth with a 279 (-1). The Cowboys’ Austin Eckroat recorded
a 65 in the final 18 holes to tie Hammer’s third round score for the low of the
Championship. He moved up three spots to place fifth at 282 (+2). A total of 15
student-athletes finished in the top 10 to earn All-Tournament honors. The Division
