Cowley hands Mineral Area first loss, advances to semifinals

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Cowley College rallied from 25 points down in the second half to defeat top-seed and previously undefeated Mineral Area Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament at the Hutchinson Sports Arena 105-101.

The Tigers still trailed 78-58 at the 12:42 mark, they were still down 17 when Mikel Henderson was fouled at the 10:15 mark, they trailed by 13 with 7:08 to play, over the next 5:02 they reeled Mineral Area in, outscoring the Cardinals 41-19 and leading on a Henderson three at the 2:01 mark 99-97. Mineral Area never led again.

Cowley was led by Dalen Ridgnal's 26 points, Moun'tae Edmonson had 23, Henderson added 22, Cevin Clark had 15 and Clarence King added 10 off the bench.

Mineral Area was paced by 27 from Kevin Stone, Malevy Lyons had 19, J.P. Robinson had 13, Jamir Price and Terry Ford each added 12.

Cowley advances to play the winner of Ranger and South Plains. Mineral Area ends their season at 24-1.
