West Virginia (19-9) is the top-seeded team in the 12-team field after clinching its first outright Big 12 regular season title in program history. The Mountaineers earned a bye and will face the winner of No. 8 seed Cincinnati and No. 9 seed Texas Tech on Thursday, May 22 at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. CT. Kansas (20-10) earned the second seed, its highest Big 12 seeding in program history, surpassing its previous high of No. 3 in 2014. They will open the Conference Championship against the winner of No. 7-seeded Oklahoma State and No. 10-seeded Baylor at 4 p.m. CT on Thursday, May 22. TCU (19-11) took the No. 3 seed, its highest spot since being ranked No. 1 in the 2022 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship. The Horned Frogs will begin the Championship on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. CT against either No. 6 Kansas State or No. 11 Houston. With the win, the Wildcats (31-23) finish the regular season with a winning record for the sixth consecutive year, that includes a 17-13 mark in Big 12 play. The Cats' 17 conference wins are the most in school history, breaking the previous record held by the 2013 team. "Guys played well in a pressure situation, you always love to see that," seventh-year head coach&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/pete-hughes/2603" rel="smarttag" rev="2603">Pete Hughes</a></dfn>&nbsp;commented. "They set the tone early. WICHITA, Kan. --&nbsp;Wichita State got seven scoreless innings from their bullpen and some late offense to defeat Memphis 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Eck Stadium, completing the sweep of the three-game series. The win, combined with Rice's loss at UTSA, moves the Shockers up to the #7 seed in the American Athletic Conference tournament bracket. Wichita State will face #2 Charlotte at 3:00 pm CT on Tuesday, May 20 at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida. The three-game sweep is Wichita State's first in program history against Memphis. Wichita State (20-34, 11-16) had to dig out of an early hole as Memphis scored the game's first run just two batters into the contest. Cade Greer doubled to open the game and Justin Fogel singled him in for a 1-0 lead against WSU starter&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/jeremiah-arnett/9174" rel="smarttag" rev="9174">Jeremiah Arnett</a></dfn>. The Shockers, who had stolen 23 bases all season entering the contest, used their speed to create a run in the third.&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/camden-johnson/9183" rel="smarttag" rev="9183">Camden Johnson</a></dfn>&nbsp;worked a leadoff work before stealing second and third base ahead of a&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/josh-livingston/9185" rel="smarttag" rev="9185">Josh Livingston</a></dfn>&nbsp;RBI single that tied the game at 1-1. Wichita State stole a season-high five bases in the game, including a career-best three from Johnson. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. &ndash;&nbsp;Kansas baseball completed a three-game sweep of conference champion No. 14 West Virginia with a 7-0 shutout victory on Saturday at Wagener Field at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The Jayhawks recorded their seventh Big 12 series win of the season and their fifth series sweep in conference play, both program bests in only the third season under head coach&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/dan-fitzgerald/871" rel="smarttag" rev="871">Dan Fitzgerald</a></dfn>. &nbsp; Kansas improved to 42-14 on the year and earned second place in the Big 12 with a 20-10 conference mark. The 42 wins are the most by Kansas in the regular season in program history, while KU also set new program bests with 20 conference wins and 20 road wins. The Jayhawks finished the regular season on a five-game winning streak and have tied the school record with eight consecutive road wins. &nbsp; KU got its third stellar starting pitching performance of the weekend, with&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/kannon-carr/16143" rel="smarttag" rev="16143">Kannon Carr</a></dfn>&nbsp;allowing just two hits while striking out four in 5.1 innings of work to move to 5-1 on the year.&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/manning-west/16160" rel="smarttag" rev="16160">Manning West</a></dfn>&nbsp;didn't allow a hit and struck out six over the final 3.2 innings to earn his first save of the season.&nbsp;Kansas held West Virginia to only two hits. &nbsp; Kansas led 1-0 after seven innings of play, but added six runs in the final two innings.&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/derek-cerda/16140" rel="smarttag" rev="16140">Derek Cerda</a></dfn>&nbsp;hit a three-run homer to make it 4-0 in the eighth before the Jayhawks scored three insurance runs on four hits in the ninth. &nbsp; "Great weekend, I'm so proud of the guys," Fitzgerald said following the sweep. One year ago,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/roland_ty-rique_hoh9">Ty'Rique Roland</a>&nbsp;missed the medal platform and finished 11th in the NJCAA high jump as a freshman.
After a trying offseason with injury issues and not qualifying in the NJCAA indoor championships, Roland was determined not to let that happen again on Friday.
He didn't.
Roland became the fourth Hutchinson Community College athlete in men's track and field history to win a national championship in the event on Friday at the 2025 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships at Gowans Stadium.
With only one miss at earlier heights, Roland cleared a career-best 6 feet, 10.75 inches (2.10 meters) to win the Blue Dragons first outdoor national championship of the meet and second this season when combined with the indoor season.
Roland's victory helped the Blue Dragons remain in the Top 10 of the overall team standings with 8 of 22 events completed with 20 points. New Mexico Junior College leads with 39 points and Iowa Wester is right behind with 38 points.
Roland becomes the first Blue Dragon to win a national championship in the high jump since Richard Newman in 2019. His height of 6-10.75 is the sixth-best by a Blue Dragon in a national meet and seventh-best all-time in Blue Dragon track and field history.
Roland joins&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/legrand_leo_gfpl">Leo LeGrand</a>&nbsp;(Indoor 800) as national track and field event champions for the Blue Dragons in the 2025 season.
Freshman sprinter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/makalo_kebba_vl76">Kebba Makalo</a>&nbsp;will be going after two titles on Saturday after qualifying in both the 100- and 200-meter finals on Friday.
Makalo finished second in the 200 preliminaries on Friday with a time of 20.61 seconds, which is the second-fastest 200-meter time in Blue Dragon outdoor history. Hutchinson's record holder in the 100 already, Makalo qualified third in the 100 with a time of 10.38 seconds.
Other Blue Dragon performances on Friday: +&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/warren_d-antonio_9loc">D'Antonio Warren</a>&nbsp;was 13th in the 100-meter prelims with a time of 10.38 seconds. + LeGrand ran his 800 preliminary and finished 15th with a time of 1:53.06 and did not move on to Saturday's final. +&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/bare_grady_0xoi">Grady Bare</a>&nbsp;was 16th in the shot put at 45-6.75 (13.89 meters).
On Saturday,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/thid_david_57oh">David Thid</a>&nbsp;will go after a second-straight national championship in the 400-meter hurdles to highlight the meet program for the Dragons. He qualified for the finals on Thursday with the third-best time in the prelims.

WICHITA, Kan. (May 16, 2025)—Kyler Fedko hit his sixth long ball of the season for the Wichita Wind Surge in a 10-4 loss to the Arkansas Travelers at Equity Bank Park. In another back-and-forth scoring game, Arkansas pulled away with a four-run seventh inning to secure at least a series split.&nbsp;

Josh Hood brought in the game’s first run on an RBI double to the left center gap in the top of the first. Jared Sundstrom added on with a two-run blast over to the berm in left for a 3-0 Travelers lead through two and a half innings.&nbsp;

Three runs came across for Wichita on a two-RBI double to the left field corner by Ricardo Olivar and a single to right by Kala’i Rosario to tie the game in the bottom of the third.

Blake Rambusch gave the lead back to Arkansas on an infield groundout for a 4-3 score heading to the bottom of the fourth. Caleb Cali left the yard on a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to give the Travelers a three-run cushion.

Kyler Fedko demolished his sixth home run of the season out to left field in the bottom of the sixth.

Four more Arkansas tallies came across in the top of the seventh for a 10-4 Travelers lead heading into the stretch. Only two Wind Surge hitters reached base over the final three innings in the six-run loss.

Ricky Castro took his third straight loss, giving up four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts over four and one-third innings of work as the starter.

⚾ Wind Surge drops second straight to Travelers 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Iván Herrera had three hits and four RBIs, Andre Pallante allowed two runs in seven innings, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Kansas City Royals 10-3 on Friday night.

Willson Contreras doubled twice and drove in a run for the Cardinals, who have won 11 of 12. The Royals have dropped five of six since a seven-game winning streak.

Contreras doubled and scored on a two-out wild pitch by Cole Ragans (2-3) in the second. Brendan Donovan doubled leading off the fourth and scored on a one-out double by Contreras for a two-run lead. Herrera singled in Contreras to make it 3-0.

Vinnie Pasquantino homered in the fourth against Pallante (4-2). Kyle Isbel tripled in the fifth and scored on a balk.

Pallante threw 100 pitches. He gave up seven hits, struck out four and walked none.

Ragans surrendered four runs on five hits in five innings with seven strikeouts. Four Kansas City relievers combined to allow six runs on eight hits.

Royals drop series opener to Cardinals 

NEWTON, Kan. – When Hutchinson Community College Charlie Box sank his final putt on Friday at the NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships at Sand Creek Station, he knew he was the clubhouse leader with a one-stroke lead in the individual standings.

The next 90 minutes must have seemed like 90 years for the Blue Dragon sophomore.

With six groups, including Odessa’s Adam Bresnu – the No. 1-ranked player in the NJCAA – still on the course just one stroke behind with five holes to play, No. 2-ranked Box had no control over how things would eventually play out.

Box’s roller-coaster ride finally came to an end as Bresnu missed a putt on No. 18 and Box claimed Blue Dragon men’s golf’s second all-time national individual championship.

Box shot a 1-over-par 73 on Friday in the fourth and final round and finished with a 5-under 283 for his fourth tournament win of the season and fifth of his Blue Dragon career. He topped Bresnu by one stroke. Bresnu had a 2-over 74 on Friday. Both Box and Bresnu entered the final round tied for the individual lead at 6-under par.

Box had just one birdie in the final round, which came on No. 11. The Blue Dragon sophomore had a rough start with back-to-back bogeys to start the round, but kept plodding along with 15 pars and the birdie on 11 to close out the round.

Bresnu was primed for a comeback victory when he chipped in for birdie on No. 17 to tie Box at 5-under. On 18, Bresnu missed a birdie putt attempt to win, then missed his par putt, which would have forced a playoff with Box. He three-putted for a bogey, which made Box the national champion.

Box joins Ben Partridge as the only Blue Dragon golfers to win the NJCAA Individual national championship in program history. Partridge won a four-hole playoff with teammate Harry Crockett in 2021 in Lubbock, Texas.

Box also joins Partridge in an exclusive club as the only back-to-back NJCAA first-team All-Americans in back-to-back seasons. Box is also the eighth Blue Dragon to earn both NJCAA and PING All-America honors in the same season.

The Blue Dragons shot a final-round 306 in windy scoring conditions on Friday to places fourth overall with a 72-hole team total of 1,179.

Hutchinson extended its current program-record streak of Top 10 national finishes to five-straight seasons. The Blue Dragons won the national championship in 2021 and 2022, finished fifth in 2023 and ninth last season.

Midland won the 2025 team title with a team total of 1,158. Odessa was second at 1,165 and Indian Hills was third at 1,173. Dodge City finished seventh at 1,192 and Garden City was 16th at 1,211.

Blue Dragon freshman Tyler Walker finished tied for 20th on Friday with a four-round score of 294. After three-straight rounds of par or lower, Walker closed the championship with a 79 on Friday.

Wildcats shut out, drops Big 12 series to Bearcats

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Kansas baseball secured a series win and its 41st overall win of the season with an 8-5 victory against No. 14 West Virginia on Friday evening at Wagener Field at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The 41 wins are the third most in a season in school history in only the third season under head coach Dan Fitzgerald.

Kansas improved its record to 41-14 this season and 19-10 in Big 12 play. The 41 wins trail only 43 wins in 2006 and 45 wins in 1993 for the most in school history. The Jayhawks have now won seven conference series for the first time in program history. Kansas has also won seven consecutive games on the road. The 19 conference wins and 19 road wins are both already school records.

Cooper Moore pitched eight strong innings to match his career high for innings pitched and held West Virginia to three runs for his seventh win of the season and sixth quality start of the year. Moore has gone eight innings in back-to-back starts for the first time in his career. Offensively, Brady Ballinger hit his 15th home run of the season on Friday night.

"I'm super proud of how far we've come in year three," Fitzgerald said. "I think it's such a great picture of how hard our staff has worked and the incredible job they've done in recruiting and development. Then ultimately, it's the effort and talent of the players and just their buy in to execute and do it at a really, really high level. I'm proud of where we're at. The win clinched a spot in the American Athletic Conference tournament for Wichita State, which can still move up to the #7 in the bracket with a win tomorrow combined with a Rice loss to UTSA.

The victory was also the 300th in the career of head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/brian-green/1256">Brian Green</a>.

Millan's heroics came after the Shockers (19-34, 10-16) were one out away from winning the game in the top of the ninth. The Tigers (22-32, 8-18) got a game-tying, two-run single from Shane Cox to knot the game at 5-5, then put the potential go-ahead run on second base with two outs before&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/aaron-arnold/9406">Aaron Arnold</a>&nbsp;(5-2) escaped the inning with a strikeout. Shockers clinch AAC berth with walk-off win

BUHLER, Kan. — Buhler High School dominated its home track Friday, sweeping both the boys and girls team titles at the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division III track and field championships with standout performances across sprints, distance races, jumps, and throws.

The Buhler girls piled up 216 points to easily outdistance McPherson (108) and Circle (74) for the team crown. The Crusader boys followed suit, winning the title with 176.5 points ahead of McPherson (100.5) and Circle (76).

Sophomore Lillie Ledford led the charge for Buhler’s girls team, sweeping the 100 meters (12.46), 200 meters (25.81), and 400 meters (1:00.32), while helping the 4x100 relay win in 51.33 seconds. The 4x400 squad capped the night with another gold in 4:11.99. Jenna Lackey and Sofia Spies added a 2-3 finish in the 200, while Spies also placed second in the 100 and third in long jump (16-6.25).

In the field, Buhler went 1-2 in pole vault behind Lackey (9-6) and Khloe Blackwell (9-0), and got a boost from Ava Koster and Ashlynn Gumm, who both cleared 5-0 to tie for second in high jump. Ryan Gotti claimed the javelin title with a throw of 117-0, and Charley Baxter (second in shot put, eighth in javelin) and Aidan Howard (second in discus, fifth in shot) chipped in valuable throws points.

On the boys side, Buhler showcased its hurdle dominance by sweeping the top three in the 110-meter hurdles: Zach Friesen (14.86), Landon Martinez (15.19), and Aidan Anderson (15.89). Martinez later won the 300 hurdles (40.25), with Anderson and Owen Kneisel completing another 1-2-3 finish.

Freshman Garrett Gleason starred in the jumps, winning both high jump (6-0) and long jump (20-1.75), while Max Harmony cleared 13-6 to win pole vault. Buhler also captured the 4x100 relay in 43.80 seconds and took third in both the 4x400 and 4x800.

Gavin Lindahl and Henry Trumpp highlighted the boys distance efforts, finishing first and second in the 3200 and narrowly missing a 1-2 finish in the 1600. Andrew Morgan, Zayden Mendenhall and Samuel Hougham also contributed strong mid-distance efforts in the 800.

 </figure>SEAN BOSTON Hutch PostBUHLER, Kan. — Buhler High School dominated its home track Friday, sweeping both the boys and girls team titles at the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division III track and field championships with standout performances across sprints, distance races, jumps, and throws.The Buhler girls piled up 216 points to easily outdistance McPherson (108) and Circle (74) for the team crown. The Crusader boys followed suit, winning the title with 176.5 points ahead of McPherson (100.5) and Circle (76).Sophomore Lillie Ledford led the charge for Buhler’s girls team, sweeping the 100 meters (12.46), 200 meters (25.81), and 400 meters (1:00.32), while helping the 4x100 relay win in 51.33 seconds. The 4x400 squad capped the night with another gold in 4:11.99. Jenna Lackey and Sofia Spies added a 2-3 finish in the 200, while Spies also placed second in the 100 and third in long jump (16-6.25).In the field, Buhler went 1-2 in pole vault behind Lackey (9-6) and Khloe Blackwell (9-0), and got a boost from Ava Koster and Ashlynn Gumm, who both cleared 5-0 to tie for second in high jump. Ryan Gotti claimed the javelin title with a throw of 117-0, and Charley Baxter (second in shot put, eighth in javelin) and Aidan Howard (second in discus, fifth in shot) chipped in valuable throws points.On the boys side, Buhler showcased its hurdle dominance by sweeping the top three in the 110-meter hurdles: Zach Friesen (14.86), Landon Martinez (15.19), and Aidan Anderson (15.89). Martinez later won the 300 hurdles (40.25), with Anderson and Owen Kneisel completing another 1-2-3 finish.Freshman Garrett Gleason starred in the jumps, winning both high jump (6-0) and long jump (20-1.75), while Max Harmony cleared 13-6 to win pole vault. Buhler also captured the 4x100 relay in 43.80 seconds and took third in both the 4x400 and 4x800.Gavin Lindahl and Henry Trumpp highlighted the boys distance efforts, finishing first and second in the 3200 and narrowly missing a 1-2 finish in the 1600. Andrew Morgan, Zayden Mendenhall and Samuel Hougham also contributed strong mid-distance efforts in the 800.

Hutchinson High School had a strong showing in several events, highlighted by senior Camrynn Harris’ victory in the boys 100-meter dash.

Harris clocked 11.00 seconds in the final, edging Derby’s Elijah Cross. He also placed third in the 200 meters at 23.04 seconds and anchored a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters (54.24).

Hutchinson’s field athletes contributed significant points. Senior Daniel Boone took fourth in the boys long jump (21-3.25) and sixth in the triple jump (40-1), while senior Kaleb Cape earned third in the boys shot put (43-8) and ninth in the discus (121-9). Jaiden May added a top-10 finish in both events.

On the girls side, Hutch’s top performances came from senior KeiRre Martinez, who took third in the long jump with a mark of 16-6.25, and junior Madalyn Moore, who placed fifth in the triple jump at 34-0.75.

Avery Tecklenburg delivered in the distance events, placing third in the 1600 meters (5:45.01) and fourth in the 800 (2:34.17). Coryn Knackstedt also added a seventh-place finish in the 800.

In throwing events, senior Kyndra Gaines placed third in the discus (100-9) and seventh in the shot put (28-0.50), while Brianna Bueford added an eighth-place discus mark and eighth in javelin.

Other top-10 finishes included Emma Wittekind’s fourth-place time in the girls 400 (1:03.52), Myleigh Mueller’s tie for fourth in the high jump (4-10), and Layni Hagley’s 11th-place effort.

Derby’s girls won the team title with 133 points, while Hutchinson finished sixth with 33. Salina South (114) and Valley Center (108) rounded out the top three.

While showing signs of life by tying the game twice, a ninth inning home run provided the difference for Arkansas, as the first three games have now flipped back and forth between the two teams.
Victor Labrada lined a sacrifice fly to right field for the game&rsquo;s first run in the top of the third. Bill Knight recorded a sac fly of his own two innings later for a 2-0 Travelers lead.

Hunter Fitz-Gerald broke the tie in the top of the ninth on a two-run home run that crept over the wall in left. A routine bottom of the ninth thrown by Brandyn Garcia secured the 5-3 win for Arkansas.
<a href="https://www.milb.com/player/michael-martinez-681597">Michael Martinez</a>&nbsp;received his first decision, a loss, of the season. He surrendered two earned runs on two hits with a strikeout in the ninth inning.

Moundridge senior Kaden Elmore dominated the sprint events, sweeping the 100 (10.98), 200 (23.05), and 400 meters (50.51), while also helping the Wildcats to a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay (44.31). Moundridge added a win in the pole vault from Brayden Elmore (12-6), and Henry Hecox delivered a javelin title with a throw of 178-11.

Trinity Catholic’s boys stood out in the distance events, led by Jacob Lindstrom’s third-place finish in the 3200 (10:25.05) and fourth-place effort in the 1600. The Celtics won the 4x800 relay (8:38.63) and took third in both the 4x100 and 4x400. Isaac Hammersmith added a league title in the high jump (6-4) and placed third in the long jump.

Inman’s Gage Sisson and Tyler Jerrick placed fourth and seventh in the triple jump, respectively. Malachi Brunk ran fourth in the 200 and also placed in the 300 hurdles, while Bo O’Neil placed third in the discus (140-3). Inman took sixth in both the 4x800 and 4x400 relays.

Sterling’s Zane Farney was the standout in the hurdles, capturing titles in both the 110 (15.40) and 300 (40.67). The Black Bears’ 4x100 relay placed fourth, and Cody Schweizer and Kevin Ploutz contributed top-10 finishes in the shot put. Jacob Lewis finished fifth in the 110 hurdles and seventh in the 300.

Inman senior Katie Nichols leading the charge by capturing titles in both the high jump and long jump. Nichols cleared 4 feet, 10 inches in the high jump and posted a mark of 17-2.5 in the long jump.

Suttyn Harris also boosted the Teutons with a runner-up finish in the triple jump (34-3) and a league title in the shot put (36-0). Inman dominated the throws, as Taylor Froese won the discus at 121-4 and placed second in the shot, while Morgan Froese and Allison Schrag added top-five marks in the discus.

Moundridge’s girls brought home multiple event wins, highlighted by a first-place 4x800-meter relay (10:13.68) and 4x400 relay (4:09.15). Avery Schrag and Baylee Schriner posted top-five finishes in the 400, while Cammi Unruh earned third in the long jump (16-4.5) and Hattie Hecox was third in the triple jump (33-1). Aspyn Stos and Brie Moddelmog also placed among the top in the throws.

Sterling’s Julia Kilgore earned a sprint double, taking gold in both the 200 (25.86) and 400 (57.12). Freshman Karis Dillard added a top-eight finish in the 100 and 200. Lydia Webb represented Sterling in the throws and placed 11th in the javelin.

Central Christian's Jayden Linscheid led the Cougars with a first place finish in the high jump at 6 feet even and also took the top spot in the long jump (18-5). Cal Barnett had a consistent day with a fifth-place finish in the 100 meters (12.25) and third in the 200 meters (25.29). The Cougars' 4x100-meter relay team placed fourth in 47.64 seconds, while Konnor Sullivan grabbed runner-up honors in both the 110 hurdles (16.53) and 300 hurdles (43.56). In the field, Keaton Miller won the shot put at 48-5 and added a runner-up finish in discus (128-6). Teammate Hunter Franz placed sixth in the shot and 10th in discus, while Piercen Huff threw 129-4 in the javelin for fourth.

Burrton's Isaac Jones was a bright spot for the Chargers, placing fourth in both the 1600 (5:03.74) and 3200 (10:56.27) meter runs. Noble Phillips finished third in the 300 hurdles (45.67) and anchored the 4x400-meter relay to a fourth-place finish. Justin Ballard placed 10th in the 100 meters, while Ryker Barnes ran legs on both the 4x400 and 4x800 teams. Colt Schmitt added points with a 16th-place discus mark of 91-11 and 18th in the shot put. Burrton’s 4x800 relay team placed fifth in 9:47.38.

Fairfield's William McIver turned in a strong 800 meters with a fourth-place finish in 2:12.14. Gage Brown added points with a seventh in the 1600 and helped the Falcons place fourth in the 4x800 relay (9:45.81). Garrett Lanning highlighted the day in the field, winning the javelin at 151-6 and placing third in both the shot put (44-0) and discus (136-11). Pretty Prairie's Carter Stucky qualified for finals in the 100 and placed sixth in the 200 (26.34). Emmett Harbaugh finished sixth in the 800 (2:14.33) and tied for fourth in the high jump (5-8). Owen Anderson added a sixth-place finish in the 400 and eighth in the discus. The Bulldogs’ 4x100 relay took sixth, and their 4x800 placed fifth. In the triple jump, Waylon Satterwhite placed ninth.

Pretty Prairie’s Lauren Detter secured two individual gold medals to pace the Bulldogs. Detter won the 800-meter run in 2:26.74 and returned later to win the 1,600 in 5:46.31. Claire Miller and Amity White gave Pretty Prairie a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1,600, while Detter anchored the winning 4x800-meter relay, which also featured White, Miller and Brennan Schrag.

Central Christian’s Jessa Losew dazzled in the sprints and field. The junior won the 400 in 59.76 and the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 5.25 inches. She also tied her school record in high jump at 5-7, which is No. 1 in class 1A and No. 2 in the state all classes. She also anchored the Cougars’ gold-medal 4x400 relay, which clocked 4:20.77, which broke the school record of 4:23.4 from 2001. Central Christian teammate Belle Barnett added runner-up finishes in the 100 and 200 and placed second in the high jump at 5-2. Addi Loudenback earned a hurdles sweep with wins in the 100 (17.42) and 300 (49.45), while also contributing on relays.

Norwich’s Alex Robinson won the 100 in 13.20 and 200 in 28.07 and was part of the winning 4x100 team with Madison Lee, Indigo Nichols and Alayna Reese. Reese also took sixth in the high jump, while Rachel Balzer finished second in the pole vault.

Fairfield’s top efforts included Kenley Fowler’s sixth-place 200-meter finish and a leg on the third-place 4x400 team. Senior Kora Zongker was runner-up in the triple jump (33-1.75), while Marissa Pugh took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 29-3.50. Pugh also placed sixth in javelin at 97-11.

Burrton’s Morgan Koehn delivered a title in the discus with a toss of 74-4 and added gold in the shot put at 33-2.25. Shay Hayden contributed a 10th-place finish in the javelin (76-9).

Other highlights included Central Christian’s Kambria Brown placing second in the 1,600 (6:10.47) and third in the long jump (13-5.50), and Ava Vesper, Elyse Wyatt and Sophie Graham providing scoring depth in sprint and relay events.

NICKERSON, Kan. — The Central Kansas League held it's track and field championship on Thursday at Nickerson High School. Pratt claimed the boys team title, while Smoky Valley claimed the girls' title.

Pratt's boys posted several standout finishes, including a sweep of the hurdle events by junior Gavin Rupe, who won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.81 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 40.94. The Greenbacks also captured gold in the 4x100 and 4x800 relays, and Cade Liggett sprinted to the 200-meter title in 22.36.

Halstead’s Keaston Shields led the Dragons with a win in the 400 (53.04), and Breeson Bigley placed third in the 200. Joey Millspaugh added a victory in the long jump (21-4), and the 4x400 relay team claimed silver behind Haven.

Haven senior Aiden Hoopes sprinted to victory in the 100 meters (11.12), and the Wildcats took the 4x400 relay in 3:29.13. Sophomore Isaiah Doherty won the 3200 and was runner-up in the 1600.

Hesston’s Daxon Deering medaled in both sprints, while Carlito Lara of Pratt (2:00.35) edged out Smoky Valley’s Kaden Bishop in a competitive 800. Nickerson’s Levi Pauley won the 1600 (4:40.97) and placed in the 800.

In the field, Arley Morrell of Pratt cleared 6-2 to win high jump and took triple jump (43-9). Hesston's Emmet O’Halloran won javelin at 160-0 and Karter Gonzalez took second in discus. Halstead's Connor Herman placed fourth in both shot put and discus.

Hesston junior Ashley Lehman starred on the girls’ side, sweeping the 100 (11.75), 200 (25.11), 400 (57.21), and pole vault (11-6) to lead the Swathers. She also helped Hesston to top-four finishes in the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800 relays.

Smoky Valley’s Esther Clark Pavlovich captured distance titles in the 1600 (5:27.82) and 3200 (12:05.49), while Trista Spitler added wins in the triple jump (37-3) and a share of the high jump title (5-0). The Vikings’ 4x100 relay team also claimed gold in 50.50.

Halstead’s Mackenzie Ervin and Carly Zrubek both medaled in the hurdles, and Dalaina Schutte earned bronze in javelin with a throw of 114-5. Teammate Rachel Nisly led Nickerson’s throws with a win in the shot put (37-11.5) and a fourth-place discus finish.

Nickerson’s Delaney Childs threw 128-2 to win the girls javelin, and teammate Katy King added top-eight finishes in both shot put and discus. Larned’s Kaylee Hagerman won long jump (17-10.25) and placed third in the 100.

Pratt’s relay teams impressed again, winning the girls 4x400 (4:13.15) and placing fourth in the 4x100. Adelyn Fields was runner-up in the 400, and Kamryn Duecy finished second in the 800.

NEWTON &ndash; Early in Thursday's third round of the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship at Sand Creek Station, Hutchinson Community College sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/box_charlie_0808">Charlie Box</a>&nbsp;trailed Odessa's Adam Bresnu by four strokes for the individual lead.
When Box, the No. 2-ranked golfer in the NJCAA, closed Thursday's round with a birdie, the Blue Dragon sophomore found himself in a tie for first place with Bresnu, who is No. 1 in the national rankings, for the lead heading into Friday's final round.
The Blue Dragons are tied for third after three rounds with Indian Hills at 873, which is 15-strokes off the paces of first-place Midland. The Dragons shot 5-over 293 on Thursday, while Central District rival Indian Hills shot 292. Midland shot even-par 288 on Thursday and is at 858 through three rounds. Odessa is second at 867 after a team round of 296 in the third round.

Both Box and Bresnu are locked in a tight battle for the individual title as 12 golfers are within five strokes of the lead heading into the final 18 holes.
Box shot a 1-under 71 on Thursday, carding five birdies and four bogeys. Box had back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 13 and 14, but held his round together after playing the front nine at 2-under par with three-straight pars and a birdie on No. 18.
Brensu played the back nine in 5-over par finished with a 2-over 74. Bresnu tees off at 1:20 p.m.
One of those 12 players within five strokes of the lead is Blue Dragon freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/walker_tyler_ijcw">Tyler Walker</a>.
Walker had his third-straight NJCAA round of par of better, carding a 72 on Thursday. Walker had five birdies, five bogeys and eight pars. He is tied for ninth at 1-under 215.
The Blue Dragons also counted scores from sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/ross_louis_6g3i">Louis Ross</a>&nbsp;and freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/northgraves_jack_mp7b">Jack Northgraves</a>&nbsp;in the third round.
Both Ross and Northgraves had rounds of 75 in the third round. Ross is tied for 56th at 227. Northgraves is tied for 72nd at 230.
Freshman Corey Scullion posted a 77 in the third round. He is tied for 35th at 223.
The Blue Dragons are bidding for their fifth-straight Top 10 national finish, which would extend a program record for Top 10 placings in an NJCAA national tournament.</div>

Whether it be in cross country or on the track, Hutchinson Community College sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2024-25/bios/picolet_jordan_z3sx">Jordyn Picolet</a>&nbsp;had firmly entrenched herself as one of the Blue Dragon women's top distance runners in program history.
Officially running on her home track at Gowans Stadium in competition for the first time on Thursday night, Picolet scorcher her own personal record in the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship's 10,000-meter run.
Running in a field where the top seven times posted were among the 10 best times in Gowans Stadium history, Picolet finished 10th overall in a time of 37 minutes, 48.48 seconds. Already in possession of the second-fastest time in Blue Dragon women's history in the 10,000, Picolet shattered her own PR set at the 2024 national championships by 2:06.03.
