2 p.m. update
WICHITA, Kan. — Day 1 is complete for Classes 4A, 5A and 6A at the Kansas State High School Activities Association state track and field meet at Crossland Stadium on the Wichita State University campus.
As of the 2 p.m. update, Buhler had won two Class 4A state championships, added multiple top-three finishes and advanced several athletes to Saturday finals. Classes 1A, 2A and 3A were beginning their first day of competition Friday afternoon.
Buhler junior Corbin Starkweather won the Class 4A girls 3,200-meter run, while senior Jenna Lackey won the Class 4A girls pole vault. McPherson senior Caleb Muehler placed second in the Class 4A boys 3,200, and Newton’s boys 4x100 relay team posted the top preliminary time in Class 5A.
STATE CHAMPIONS
Buhler junior Corbin Starkweather won the Class 4A girls 3,200-meter run in 10:55.81.
Buhler senior Jenna Lackey won the Class 4A girls pole vault by clearing 11-6.
ADVANCED TO FINALS
Buhler freshman Bayleigh Miller advanced to the Class 4A girls 100-meter hurdle final after finishing sixth in preliminaries in 16.13.

The Newton boys 4x100 relay team of Landyn Rains, Ethan Adams, Ryder Mapes and Kane Wise advanced to the Class 5A final with the top preliminary time of 42.28.
The Pratt boys 4x400 relay team of Arley Morrell, Gavin Rupe, Ezra Lara and Carlito Lara advanced to the Class 4A final after finishing fifth in preliminaries in 3:26.40.
The McPherson boys 4x400 relay team of Brody Hoffman, Tripp Pelzel, Daniel Bowen and Kayden Friesen advanced to the Class 4A final after finishing ninth in preliminaries in 3:28.49.
