⛳ Trinity Catholic places 3rd, Central Christian’s Kooiman takes 2nd at state golf

Hesston and Hutchinson Trinity Catholic each brought home team hardware Wednesday as the KSHSAA boys state golf tournaments wrapped up across Kansas.

Hesston finished second in Class 3A at Lake Shawnee Golf Course in Topeka, shooting a two-day total of 617. Wichita Collegiate won the team championship with a 606, while Wichita Trinity was third at 638.

The Swathers were led by Isaac Rusche, who finished third individually with a 151 after rounds of 75 and 76. Carter Frey and Austin Penner each tied for 11th at 155, while Aiden Bridgeman tied for 16th at 156. Evan Koehn tied for 18th at 158, and Reece Buhrman tied for 33rd at 164.

In Class 2A at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield, Hutchinson Trinity Catholic finished third as a team with a 667. Salina Sacred Heart won the team championship at 645, followed by Syracuse at 649.

Tyler Casebolt led the Celtics with a seventh-place finish, shooting 79 and 78 for a 157. Miles Blaylock tied for 12th at 161, Ian Shaw finished 18th at 167 and Dean Nelson was 39th at 182. Seamus Hogan and Matt Armour each tied for 46th at 193.

Sterling’s Cameron Morris tied for 19th in Class 2A with a 169 after rounds of 86 and 83. The Black Bears missed the team cut after shooting a 386 in the opening round. Lane Weigel shot a 92, Wyatt Newberry shot a 98, and Ian Dillard and Billy Higgins each shot 110.

In Class 4A at Hesston Golf Course, McPherson’s Cole Cooper led the area with a top-10 finish. Cooper tied for ninth with a 146 after shooting 76 on Tuesday and 70 on Wednesday. McPherson finished 11th in the team standings.

Buhler’s Isaiah Heredia tied for 29th at 160 after rounds of 77 and 83. Pratt’s Beau Ferrell tied for 34th at 162, while McPherson’s Paxton Ingels tied for 39th at 164. Buhler finished eighth in the team standings.

In Class 1A at Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson, Central Christian’s Cael Kooiman finished as the state runner-up with a 145. Kooiman opened with a 73 and followed with a 72, finishing four strokes behind South Gray’s Gavin Wahl, who won the individual title at 141.

Central Christian’s Tyler Reed tied for 22nd with a 167 after rounds of 83 and 84.
