🥎 Inman falls to St. Mary’s Colgan in 2-1A state quarterfinals

EMPORIA, Kan. — Inman’s season came to a close Monday with a 9-4 loss to St. Mary’s Colgan in the Class 2-1A state softball quarterfinals at Trusler Sports Complex.

The No. 4 seed Teutons finished 24-3, while No. 5 St. Mary’s Colgan improved to 25-3 and advanced to face No. 1 Dexter/Cedar Vale in Thursday’s semifinals at Arrocha Ballpark in Lawrence.

Inman answered an early St. Mary’s Colgan run when Lyla Levin hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Teutons took a 2-1 lead in the third after Ellie Thimmesch doubled and later scored when Ella Holzman drew a bases-loaded walk.

St. Mary’s Colgan took control with a four-run fifth inning. Callie Lundy delivered the key hit with a two-run double that scored Drew Dayton and Kara Osborn, giving the Panthers a 4-2 lead. St. Mary’s Colgan added another run in the inning, then scored once in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Inman cut the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth when Levin singled and scored on Taylor Froese’s RBI double. The Teutons added their final run in the seventh when Maddi Parsons singled and scored on Thimmesch’s RBI single.

Levin led Inman at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored. Thimmesch went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Froese added a double and an RBI. Parsons, Sharley Leonhardt and Marlee Ballard also had hits for the Teutons.

Levin took the loss in the circle, allowing 10 hits, nine runs, six earned runs and five walks while striking out four in seven innings.
