Vera Nadine Graber, 81, of South Hutchinson, died on June 3, 2024, at The Arbors-Hutchinson. She was born on May 28, 1943, at the home of her parents Willard and Della Goering Wedel in Pretty Prairie.
Vera graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1961 and Hutchinson Junior College in 1963. On July 19, 1963, she married Gary Graber at the Pretty Prairie Mennonite Church. They moved to Manhattan where Gary finished his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, while Vera worked for the K-State Agronomy department. In 1966 the family moved to Nickerson. Vera was a homemaker until 1974 when she was hired by the Nickerson Bank. She retired from the bank in 1998.
Vera thoroughly loved gardening and cared for many plants in her backyard greenhouse. She enjoyed cooking and other crafts such as sewing, counted cross-stitch and painting. She won a blue ribbon at the Kansas State Fair for her painting of a barn. Vera was also helpful when Gary was restoring and showing vintage cars.
She is survived by: husband, Gary; son Darin (Andrea Pischnotte) Graber of South Jordan, UT; daughter, Joni (Scott) Oakes of Oklahoma City, OK; son Mike (Angela) Graber of Hoschton, GA; and grandchildren, Landon and Macie Graber.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Alice Graber; and brother, Glen Wedel.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be Friday June 7, 2024 from 6 pm – 8 pm at Journey@South Hutch, 808 S. Poplar, South Hutchinson, KS. The memorial service will be Saturday June 8, 2024, at 2 pm at Journey@South Hutch.
