James "Jimmy" Corfman, age 64, passed away on October 2, 2023 in Wichita, Ks.

Jimmy began his life in Salina KS and was born August 22, 1959 to Roy Dean &amp; Roberta (Dunn) Corfman.&nbsp; He moved with the family to the farm near Whitewater KS and graduated from Remington High School in 1977.&nbsp; Most recently, Jimmy was employed as &nbsp;a truck driver which allowed him to travel to many states.&nbsp; &nbsp;He enjoyed seeing the country and stopping to shop at thrift stores etc. looking for unexpected treasures.&nbsp; Jimmy had a great interest in depression era glassware and could remember patterns, makers and the years produced from memory only.&nbsp; He attended The First United Methodist Church in Wichita and made several close friends there.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Jimmy is survived by his brother Gene, sister Jolene (Miles) Erpelding, Stepmother Arlene Corfman as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Linda Deen Weesner.

Gaylon Lee Plenert, 69, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at his home.&nbsp;

Gaylon was born on September 29, 1954, in Goessel, KS, the son of Charles Lee and Jenny Lee (Unruh) Plenert.&nbsp; He attended school in Hillsboro, KS.

He was a member of Wheatland Baptist Church, McPherson and was an artist for The Clayworks at Disability Supports.

Survivors include: his mother, Jenny Plenert of McPherson, KS; a brother, Greg (Robin) Plenert of Hillsboro, KS; nephew, Dusten (Danielle) Plenert of Hillsboro, KS; niece, Callie Plenert of Hillsboro, KS; numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles; and dear friend, Nancy (Gene) Shockley of Wichita, KS.

Gaylon will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Wheatland Baptist Church, McPherson, with Pastor Brian Ernsberger officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Hillsboro.

Jeremy David “J.J.” Johnson, 35, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023. He was born on September 24, 1988 in Brighton, Colorado to David R. and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Johnson.

J.J. graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 2007. He later attended the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Arizona.

J.J. had worked at Pfizer in McPherson for 10 years.

He enjoyed spending his time riding motorcycles, working on computers and gaming. Above all, J.J. loved spending time with his son, Jackson.

J.J. is survived by his son, Jackson Ray Johnson, of Wichita; mother, Liz Johnson of Moundridge; brother, Brent (Stephanie) Johnson of Aurora, CO and their children, Treyton, Zane, and Warner; sisters, Deanna Johnson (Mike Halbert) of Aurora, CO and their son, Dylan, and Megan Hill of Moundridge and her children, Brylie and Braylan. He is also survived by his very close friends, Jordin Smith, Steven Blaylock, Nate Martens, and Zach Vytlacil; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, David R. Johnson; maternal grandparents, Walter and Amy Mitchell; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Marlene Johnson; and uncles, Ed Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell, and Ted Bethell.

Guinn “Dale” Cochran, passed on Tuesday, September 26th, 2023, peacefully in his home in Bel Aire, Kansas.&nbsp; He&nbsp;was born December 5th, 1938, in Union City, Tennessee to Leland Guinn Cochran and Emma Lou Cook.&nbsp;

Dale served in the Navy from 1955 until retirement in 1976. In 1977, Dale married Lois Carnell Wilson. After retiring from the Navy, Dale worked in the nuclear industry as an Industrial Radiographer until retiring from Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation in Burlington, KS.&nbsp;

He enjoyed many hobbies but took special interest in gardening, woodworking, collecting tools, and fishing. Dale loved music and accumulated an impressive collection of records. &nbsp;Dale was also known to be pretty savvy with a pool stick.&nbsp;

Dale is preceded in death by his wife Lois Cochran, parents Leland Guinn Cochran and Emma Lou Cook, siblings Peggy Dasher, son Roger Stayton and grandchildren Bryan and Jesse Donovan.

Survived by children Mitchell, Lonnie, Jesse, Yvonne and Scott, sister Betty Lou Tucker, brother Robert Lee Cochran,&nbsp; 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, many other family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5pm-6pm on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023,&nbsp; and&nbsp;Service will be held &nbsp;10:00am Thursday, October 5th, 2023, both at Baker Funeral Home, 100 S. Cedar, Valley Center, Kansas; viewing available at 9:00am.

David Lyle Barb, 71, died September 25, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis, Wichita, KS. &nbsp;He was born December 20, 1951, in Hutchinson, KS, to David Pat Barb and Roberta Arlene (Goertzen) Barb.

David was a graduate of the Kansas School for the Deaf, Olathe, KS. &nbsp;He was employed as a hydraulic tester at Eaton Corporation, formerly Cessna Power Fluid Division, Hutchinson, KS, retiring with 37 years of service.

David was a big deal to a lot of people. He had many inside jokes with coworkers and made everyone smile. He looked forward to the pranks, teasing, and making his siblings and cousins laugh with his orneriness. In early years he got a kick out of seeing family and friends laugh and scream from chasing them with bugs and pranking them with other shenanigans. &nbsp;

David was a proud member of Hutchinson Association of the Deaf. &nbsp;He was known for many years as ‘Deaf Santa’, bringing joy to the Deaf children. &nbsp;He brought awareness of the Deaf community and was a huge advocate for teaching others sign language.&nbsp;

As years went by, David became involved with the Family Children's Theater being in over 15 plays. His favorite being Harpo Marx where he played Harpo Marx himself. It became a family event doing plays with his mother, nieces, and daughter. &nbsp;Babes in Toyland and Charlotte's Web were two of the favorites that the whole Barb Family were involved with. &nbsp;

When David retired, he became active in the South-Central Association of the Deaf, traveling to Newton monthly and attending Deaf Expos all over the states. &nbsp;In his retirement, he got to spend a lot of time with both his grandchildren who were special to him in different ways. Grandson Parker and David would get a kick out of joking and pranking each other and to prank Kristin, David's daughter. Granddaughter Aly always had tea parties making potions out of marbles that were always there for her to play with in the living room. David would often "listen" to the music that they played on instruments and would pipe in on a song or two with his own flute or drums. &nbsp;

David was a best friend, mentor, coworker, brother, uncle, grandpa and dad. &nbsp;The best Daddy one could ask for. &nbsp;Anybody who met him has many stories and I believe were truly blessed to get to know him. &nbsp;

David is survived by: &nbsp;his daughter, Kristin (John Bryan) Martinez of Hutchinson, KS; grandchildren, John Parker and Alysandra Kiyomi; sister, Dianne (John) Bogle of Hutchinson, KS; brother, Tim (Bobbi) Barb of Wichita, KS; nieces, Angela Cochran, Lisa Bogle, Kendra Bogle, and Brittany (Cory) Bynum; nephews, Trevor (Brittany) Barb and Corbin Barb; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents; sister, Leslynn Cochran; numerous aunt and uncles; and the mother of Kristin, Rita Riyoko.

David Lyle Barb |1951-2023|

Ronald Kay Guinn, 80, of &nbsp;Valley Center Kansas went to be with our Lord on Saturday September 30, 2023 at Newton Medical Center, Newton Kansas. &nbsp;He was born August 11, 1943 in Dodge City Kansas to proud parents Ray and Audrey (Madaus) Guinn. &nbsp;Ron was a 1961 graduate from Bucklin High School, Bucklin Kansas. &nbsp;He attended Fort Hays State, St Mary's of the Plain College, Texas A&amp;M, and achieved a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from Wichita State University.&nbsp;

After graduation Ron began his engineering career at Field Queen Corporation, and happily retired from his career at Hesston Corp/Agco in Hesston, Kansas. &nbsp;Ron's work as an engineer was instrumental in designing and testing various farm equipment such as combines that could adjust to various types of wheat in various countries. His work blessed him with the ability to travel to Canada, South America and France displaying his craftsmanship.&nbsp;

Nov 20,1970, Ron's twin sister Carol Raye Fields passed away leaving behind 2 little girls. Ron raised Tammi and Lori like his own, stepping in as a father and giving them anything they would ever need to prosper in this world. Even as they grew to adults, Ron's care for his two girls and their children never faltered. He raised two wonderful ladies who stood by him at his final moments to say goodbye.&nbsp;

On October 24, 1986 he married Kathryn Cudo Yeahquo. He spent 36 yrs with the only woman he ever loved, displaying a beautiful, loving, time tested marriage to all until she passed on January 31 2023.

Ron loved people and never met a stranger. In most any setting Ron was in, he would manage to find a baby to get his hands on and sit quietly holding them.. Ron loved children as Jesus did. But his most enjoyment was teaching them about Jesus. He also had a great knack for entertaining them with his jokes and fun games. Up until his last day he would be running around with his great great nieces all over the property.&nbsp;

Ron loved to live life to the absolute fullest. He had a passion for scuba diving and skydiving with over a thousand jumps under his belt. He was a wonderful philanthropist. Even with all that he had going on through life, he still made time to take at least 75 mission trips to Mexico, Guatemala and Jamaica, to spread the word and love of our God while building homes for the less fortunate. His passion for community service was so powerful it attracted many to go and serve with him. Many of them still make these trips to this day.&nbsp;

However, Ron’s greatest love was that of His Lord. &nbsp;He led his life as a faithful and loving servant to God throughout his life, never waving on his faith and now he is receiving his gift of eternal life in the Almighty's kingdom. He was a member of the Valley Center Christian Church, Valley Center KS where he served as an Elder. &nbsp;

Ron is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Audrey Guinn, sisters Evelyn Brown, Dorothy Guinn and Carol Raye Fields and brother Kenneth Ray Guinn.

He is survived by his two daughters Tammi Birney of Sedgwick KS and Lori Gariss and husband Kevin of Catoosa OK along with a host of great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews who looked to Ron like a grandfather.&nbsp;

Memorials may be designated in his memory to Valley Center Christian Church for Casa Por Cristo mission trips.

 </figure>Ronald Kay Guinn, 80, of &nbsp;Valley Center Kansas went to be with our Lord on Saturday September 30, 2023 at Newton Medical Center, Newton Kansas. &nbsp;He was born August 11, 1943 in Dodge City Kansas to proud parents Ray and Audrey (Madaus) Guinn. &nbsp;Ron was a 1961 graduate from Bucklin High School, Bucklin Kansas. &nbsp;He attended Fort Hays State, St Mary's of the Plain College, Texas A&amp;M, and achieved a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from Wichita State University.&nbsp;After graduation Ron began his engineering career at Field Queen Corporation, and happily retired from his career at Hesston Corp/Agco in Hesston, Kansas. &nbsp;Ron's work as an engineer was instrumental in designing and testing various farm equipment such as combines that could adjust to various types of wheat in various countries. His work blessed him with the ability to travel to Canada, South America and France displaying his craftsmanship.&nbsp;Nov 20,1970, Ron's twin sister Carol Raye Fields passed away leaving behind 2 little girls. Ron raised Tammi and Lori like his own, stepping in as a father and giving them anything they would ever need to prosper in this world. Even as they grew to adults, Ron's care for his two girls and their children never faltered. He raised two wonderful ladies who stood by him at his final moments to say goodbye.&nbsp;On October 24, 1986 he married Kathryn Cudo Yeahquo. He spent 36 yrs with the only woman he ever loved, displaying a beautiful, loving, time tested marriage to all until she passed on January 31 2023.Ron loved people and never met a stranger. In most any setting Ron was in, he would manage to find a baby to get his hands on and sit quietly holding them.. Ron loved children as Jesus did. But his most enjoyment was teaching them about Jesus. He also had a great knack for entertaining them with his jokes and fun games. Up until his last day he would be running around with his great great nieces all over the property.&nbsp;Ron loved to live life to the absolute fullest. He had a passion for scuba diving and skydiving with over a thousand jumps under his belt. He was a wonderful philanthropist. Even with all that he had going on through life, he still made time to take at least 75 mission trips to Mexico, Guatemala and Jamaica, to spread the word and love of our God while building homes for the less fortunate. His passion for community service was so powerful it attracted many to go and serve with him. Many of them still make these trips to this day.&nbsp;However, Ron’s greatest love was that of His Lord. &nbsp;He led his life as a faithful and loving servant to God throughout his life, never waving on his faith and now he is receiving his gift of eternal life in the Almighty's kingdom. He was a member of the Valley Center Christian Church, Valley Center KS where he served as an Elder. &nbsp;Ron is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Audrey Guinn, sisters Evelyn Brown, Dorothy Guinn and Carol Raye Fields and brother Kenneth Ray Guinn.He is survived by his two daughters Tammi Birney of Sedgwick KS and Lori Gariss and husband Kevin of Catoosa OK along with a host of great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews who looked to Ron like a grandfather.&nbsp;Memorials may be designated in his memory to Valley Center Christian Church for Casa Por Cristo mission trips.Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Valley Center Christian Church, 1801 E. 5th St. N., Valley Center, Kansas. Linda Louise (Hawkins) Miller, 75, of McPherson, KS, a beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated teacher, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023, surrounded by family at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.&nbsp; She touched the lives of many with her kindness and love.

Born on February 24, 1948, in Carrollton, MO, to Lawrence Lee and Louise (Sanger) Hawkins, Linda dedicated her life to nurturing the minds of countless students during her career as a teacher.&nbsp; Her commitment to education not only left a lasting impact on her students but also served as an inspiration to her four children, whom she lovingly raised.&nbsp;

Linda graduated from Stet County High School in Missouri and McPherson College.&nbsp; She was a Home Economics teacher, daycare provider, staff trainer at MCDS, and CMA and CNA at The Cedars.

Outside the classroom, Linda found solace in her garden and the art of sewing.&nbsp; Her green thumb brought color and joy to any yard she could, reflecting her love for nature’s beauty.&nbsp; Her skillful hands created countless cherished garments, quilts, and crafts, leaving a legacy of her creative spirit.&nbsp; Music filled Linda’s home, as she graced the piano with her talent.&nbsp; She had a deep appreciation for classical music, and enjoyed singing at her local Church of the Brethren.&nbsp; Her love for music has been passed down through the generations, leaving an indelible mark on her family.&nbsp; Linda was not only a devoted mother but also a loving grandmother to five adoring grandchildren.&nbsp; Her warmth and wisdom will live on in their hearts as they carry her legacy forward.&nbsp; She leaves behind cherished memories and a profound impact on her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched throughout her life.

Linda Miller will be remembered for her unwavering love, her dedication to education, her green thumb, her musical talents, and her enduring presence in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Bill Gene Alumbaugh, 74, of Hutchinson, died September 27, 2023, at Hospice House. He was born March 8, 1949, in Hutchinson, to Elmer L. and Reva J. (Fleming) Alumbaugh.

Bill graduated from Gardner High School in 1967 and attended Hutchinson Community College. He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1975. Bill worked as a baker at Betts Bakery for over 30 years and then as a custodian at Reno Valley Middle School for 10 years before retiring. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, American Legion Lyle Rishel Post #68, and The Forty and Eight. Bill enjoyed fishing and spending time with family, especially Ezra Lee.

On April 9, 1971, he married Shirley Ann Bernatzki, in Hutchinson. They shared 52 years of marriage. She survives.

Also surviving are: his daughter, Valerie Alumbaugh of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jason Alumbaugh, Tyler Alumbaugh, Shawn Alumbaugh (Cheyenne), Sarah Schowalter; great-grandsons, Ezra Lee Alumbaugh and Hunter Gene Alumbaugh.

Bill was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Don; and sisters, Barbara Meadows and Melinda Huff.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

William A. “Bill” Stewart II went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, August 7, 2023, in Lewisville, TX. &nbsp;He was born December 27, 1950, in Salina, to William A. “Bill” and Doris O. (Landess) Stewart.

Bill Graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1969, and attended Hutchinson Community Junior College. &nbsp;He served four years in the United States Navy as a Navy Aviation Rescue Swimmer (AIRRs). &nbsp;In 1982, Bill graduated from Arlington Baptist College, Arlington, TX.

On July 11, 1981, he married Tammy Jo Lackey, in Fort Worth, TX. &nbsp;They enjoyed 36 years of marriage, until her death in June 2017.

Bill is survived by: &nbsp;sisters, Sally Stewart Wonsetler (Tony) of Inman and Becky Stewart of Hutchinson; brother, Pastor Jonathan Stewart (Lara) of Fort Worth, TX; nieces, Brooke Wonsetler Browning (John) of Wichita, Whitney Gette Kruckenberg (Caleb) of Fairfax, VA, Hannah Stewart Sievers (Chris) of Philadelphia, PA, Katie Gette Dornbos (John) of Wichita, and Jerusha Stewart Streichert (Andrew) of Fort Worth, TX; nephews, Clayton Wonsetler (Anna) of Hutchinson and Jonathan Stewart II (Erin) of Medford, OR; great-nieces, Gabby Sievers, Margaret Kruckenberg, and Juniper Streichert; and great-nephew, Henry Wonsetler of Hutchinson. &nbsp;

At the time of his death, Bill was working for Liberty Hearing Aids, Lewisville, TX. &nbsp;He had no plans of retiring. &nbsp;Bill loved his work and helping people. He had a real talent for fitting, programming, and selling hearing aids, working in the hearing aid field for 30 years. &nbsp; Bill’s customers loved him, and he especially enjoyed helping veterans and the elderly. &nbsp;Bill attended Denton Bible Church, Denton TX. &nbsp;

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Jonathan Stewart officiating. &nbsp;Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

 He was born October 29, 1953 in Florence to Jr. Alfred and Betty Jean (Meirowsky) Herzet.  He married Janet Garrison March 3, 1973 in Emporia. 

 Survivors include: wife, Janet Herzet of rural Marion; son, Jared (Sara) Herzet of Shawnee, KS; daughter, Jenny Marie (Jon) Burright of Belton, Missouri; 5 grandchildren. 

 Predeceased by his parents: sisters, Mary Ann Ecker, Geraldine Louise Berg; grandson, Kaleb James Montgomery.

Staci L. Eikleberry, 47, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, in Haven, KS. She was born April 6, 1976, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Ralph and Dixie (Groves) Oden.

Staci is preceded in death by her father, Ralph Oden.

Staci enjoyed going to go play bingo, doing diamond art with her mom and grandson, Grayson and playing coin master on her phone. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. She loved being a nana and spending time with her family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, nana, aunt, and friend.

She is survived by her mother, Dixie Oden; two children, Austin (Miranda) Eikleberry and Nicole Tubbs; one sister, Shelley Weishaar; four grandchildren, Grayson and Audrey Tubbs and MaKenna and Kynzlee Eikleberry, one nephew, Alex Weishaar and extended family and many friends.

Mary Lou (Marlin) Holt |1937-2023|

Larry Eugene Potter was born April 5, 1938, at home in Clarinda, Iowa, in the middle of a spring blizzard. He was the eldest of four children born to Samuel G. and Inez M. (Carson) Potter. He attended Clarinda schools until the family moved to Denver, CO, where he graduated from high school in 1956. However, he always considered himself an Iowan first, and specifically a Clarindan. He kept up with his former high school classmates and attended several reunions.

Larry was raised in the Free Methodist church, his grandfather J.L. Potter being a minister in that denomination. Larry cherished his Christian heritage and trusted Christ as his savior at a young age.

After high school, Larry came to McPherson, KS to attend Central College, now Central Christian College of Kansas. While a student there, he met Judith Wiggins who would later become his wife. They married on June 19, 1959, and after both had graduated from Central, the couple moved to Denver where Larry worked with his father, a painting contractor. However, after their first child was born, Larry and Judy decided Denver wasn’t where they wanted to raise their family, so they moved back to McPherson in 1962. He and Judy were the parents of four children: Susan, Sarah, Bradley, and Eric. Larry worked diligently to provide for his family and was especially proud of the home he and Judy built which had plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, a huge yard and garden, and a field out back where the kids and grandkids played. It was always very important to him to have a good place for his family.

In addition to contract painting and wallpapering, which he did most of his life in conjunction with other jobs, Larry owned his own carpet cleaning business as a young man and was a supervisor at Johns-Manville for many years. He retired from all employment in 2005. He was a dedicated and dependable employee and believed in doing a job well. Many houses and businesses in McPherson and the surrounding area benefitted from his careful work, and he really enjoyed getting to know his customers. He passed on his work ethic and sense of responsibility to his children.

Larry had many interests, enjoyed hunting and doing his own ammunition reloading, had a huge yearly garden providing produce for the family and employing his children in weeding and harvesting. In retirement, Larry continued to garden until age and ill health forced him to stop. However, he always looked forward to going to plant nurseries and loved to go to McPherson Farmer’s Market. He loved to share his interests with others, and his children and grandchildren benefitted from his enthusiasm for gardening in particular. Larry loved to watch sports, especially the McPherson Bullpups, Chiefs, and Royals. He was fascinated by airplanes and took flying lessons as a young man. Larry also enjoyed narrow gauge railroad, taking several trips on the Durango and Silverton line. He loved visiting Colorado and would take the family on a camping vacation every summer. As well, Larry loved to sing and participated for several years in the McPherson Barbershop Chorus, singing the baritone part in their quartet the Mac Foursome, and later participated in the McPherson Chorale. He was for many years a faithful member of the choir at the McPherson Free Methodist Church, where he also taught Sunday School, served on various committees, and did a lot of volunteer painting and other building upkeep.&nbsp;

Larry especially loved being a grandfather and enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their scholastic and extracurricular endeavors. In recent years, he and Judy were blessed by the addition of several great-grandchildren to the family.&nbsp;

Larry Eugene Potter passed into life eternal on September 30, 2023, at Pleasant View Home, Inman, KS at the age of 85. He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife, Judith, sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Jerry Land, brothers Richard and Paul Potter, grandson Christopher Shepard, and nephew Wesley Black. He is survived by brother-in-law Charles Wiggins (Norane) of Springer, NM; his children Susan Shepard (David) of McPherson, KS, Sarah Voth (Joel) of Wenatchee, WA, Bradley Potter (Lisa) of Omaha, NE, and Eric Potter (Amanda) of McPherson; grandchildren Adam Shepard (Emily), Dylan Shepard, Michael Voth (Margaret), Brian Voth (Christina), Katie Grinde (Seth), Gregory Voth, Andrew Potter (Bailey), Lucas Potter (Laura), Benjamin Potter, Jacob Hughes (River), Brooklyn Hughes, Tessa Potter, Emma George, Alyvia George, Kason George, and Adryn Potter, great-grandchildren Adeline, Charlotte, and Evangeline Shepard with one more expected soon, Isaac, Aaron, Levi, Sophia and Michael Nectarios Voth, Celia-Rose and Ira Potter, and Jax Potter. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his loving family and many friends.

Charles “Charlie” E. Shults, Sr.,&nbsp; 76, of Chanute, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, surrounded by his family at the Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.&nbsp;

Charlie was born on January 12, 1947, in Iola, KS, the son of William Harold and Alean Katherine (Slife) Shults.&nbsp; He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1965.&nbsp; He was a United States Marine, serving from 1965 until 1968.&nbsp; He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967.&nbsp; Charlie was united in marriage to Katherine Lynne Snell on October 11, 1965, in Iola, KS.&nbsp;

He was the former plant manager for KIT Road Ranger, McPherson and for NuWay Industries, Chanute for 40 years, retiring in 2020.

Charlie was an avid fisherman and camper.&nbsp; He loved to take all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren with him.&nbsp; Dad was the most soft-spoken man, but not to fool you, he had a funny way of pointing out the humor in every situation.&nbsp; Dad was the kindest, gentlest man with a great sense of fairness.

Dad always had a big bear hug and an “I Love You” whenever leaving.&nbsp; He will be greatly missed.&nbsp; Rest in peace, Love you Dad!

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Katherine “Kathy” Shults; children, Alicia &amp; Ronnie Huff, Chuck &amp; Kay Shults, and Kim &amp; Darren Almquist; grandchildren, Steven &amp; Sam Rice, Nick &amp; Hillary Rice, Josh Rice, Kacie &amp; Justin Nading, Staci &amp; Conrad Neiman, Andrew Almquist, and Tara &amp; Ryan Gawanda; great-grandchildren, Amanda Nading, Ariana Nading, Alaina Nading, Ava Nading, Eleanor Neiman, Owen Neiman, Skyler Almquist, and Talya Williams; brother, Ralph &amp; Mary Ann Shults; and sisters, Darlean Totman, Mary K. Willis M. Koehn, 95, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Moundridge Manor. He was born February 2, 1928 in Montezuma, Kansas, the son of Fred P. and Sarah (Smith) Koehn.

Willis was a member of the Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in rural Hesston.

He was united in marriage to Arlene P. Giesel on March 25, 1951 at Greensburg, Kansas. She survives of the home after over 72 years of marriage.

Willis worked in housing construction and was a dairy farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene of the home; daughters, Charmaine (Alvin) Wedel of Fulton, Kentucky, and Shana Walker of Columbus, Mississippi; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, JoAnn Nightengale of Century, Florida, Helen Unruh of Montezuma, and June (Ken) Schoonover of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and a brother-in-law, LaVern Schmidt of Montezuma.

Willis was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Anthony Koehn; one brother; and eight sisters.

Ronald J. Sommerfeld, 81, of Canton, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at The Cedars, McPherson.&nbsp; He was a tool &amp; die machinist for 28 years at CertainTeed Plastics and also worked at &nbsp;Kansas Jack for 12 years.&nbsp; After retirement, he worked on a part-time basis at Viega.

Ron was born on April 27, 1942, in Goessel, KS, the son of Lester Ralph and Kathrina (Janzen) Sommerfeld.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army and did a tour of duty in Vietnam. &nbsp;&nbsp;

He attended and served at the First Baptist Church in Canton as deacon, trustee, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, sound technician, and also helped with maintenance, mowing, and snow removal.

Ron had a love for cats, cars, and Cub Cadet tractors.&nbsp; He belonged to the Hutchinson Corvette Club.&nbsp; Ron truly loved his family and always looked forward to getting together with them.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed interacting with his great-nephews and watching them play.

Survivors include: sister-in-law, Kathy Sommerfeld of Lindsborg, KS; nieces &amp; nephews, David (Connie) Sommerfeld of Assaria, KS, Mark Sommerfeld of Brookville, KS, Lisa (Kevin) Schmidt of Olathe, KS, and Lori (Jeff) Tector of Galva, KS; and many great-nieces &amp; great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Sommerfeld, and a sister, Melvia Eberle.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 6, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Canton.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time at the church on Friday.&nbsp; Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at the Canton Township Cemetery.

Sommerfeld, 81, of Canton, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at The Cedars, McPherson.&nbsp; He was a tool &amp; die machinist for 28 years at CertainTeed Plastics and also worked at &nbsp;Kansas Jack for 12 years.&nbsp; After retirement, he worked on a part-time basis at Viega.Ron was born on April 27, 1942, in Goessel, KS, the son of Lester Ralph and Kathrina (Janzen) Sommerfeld.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army and did a tour of duty in Vietnam. &nbsp;&nbsp;He attended and served at the First Baptist Church in Canton as deacon, trustee, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, sound technician, and also helped with maintenance, mowing, and snow removal.Ron had a love for cats, cars, and Cub Cadet tractors.&nbsp; He belonged to the Hutchinson Corvette Club.&nbsp; Ron truly loved his family and always looked forward to getting together with them.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed interacting with his great-nephews and watching them play.Survivors include: sister-in-law, Kathy Sommerfeld of Lindsborg, KS; nieces &amp; nephews, David (Connie) Sommerfeld of Assaria, KS, Mark Sommerfeld of Brookville, KS, Lisa (Kevin) Schmidt of Olathe, KS, and Lori (Jeff) Tector of Galva, KS; and many great-nieces &amp; great-nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Sommerfeld, and a sister, Melvia Eberle.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 6, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Canton.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time at the church on Friday.&nbsp; Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at the Canton Township Cemetery.Memorial donations can be made to the First Baptist Church, Canton, Gentiva Hospice, or The Cedars in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.&nbsp;Personal condolence may be sent to the family at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stockhamfamily.com/" target="_blank">www.stockhamfamily.com</a>.

Melinda L. “Mindy” Wills, 69, died September 29, 2023, at The Arbors at Waldron Place, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born July 22, 1954, in Arkansas City, to Don and Lawana (Wisdom) Thompson.

Mindy graduated from El Dorado High School in 1972, received her bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University, and her master’s degree from Wichita State University. She taught third grade over 30 years, mostly for Buhler Unified School District 313. &nbsp;Mindy enjoyed reading and watching the K-State Wildcats. &nbsp;Most of all, she loved and adored her five grandchildren, and spending time with family. &nbsp;Mindy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On August 9, 1975, she married Jerry Wills, in El Dorado. &nbsp;

Mindy is survived by: &nbsp;her husband of 48 years, Jerry Wills of Hutchinson; daughter, Angela Flory (Joel) of Halstead; son, Andrew Wills (Elizabeth) of Windom; and her five precious grandchildren, Ashlynn Flory, Mya Flory, Addisen Wills, Jaxin Wills, and Stella Wills.

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. &nbsp;Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. &nbsp;Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9:00 to 8:00 Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. &nbsp;Cremation has taken place.

Roger L. Crabill, 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2023 Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. He was born June 8, 1955, in Pratt, KS to Robert L. and Joyce J. (Scarbrough) Crabill.

In 1973, Roger graduated from Pratt High School. On November 15, 1980, Roger married Janet S. Cook in Pratt, KS. He was a bowling lane resurfacing manager for Jayhawk Bowling Supply and Resurfacing for 40 years. Roger enjoyed golfing, bowling and teasing his nieces and nephews. In August 2020, Roger miraculously survived a brain aneurysm. In February 2022, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and courageously fought the disease for a year and a half. He was a member of Crosspoint Church in Hutchinson, Elks Lodge in Pratt, and USBC.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew Christopher Dean McCawley.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; three sisters, Shirley Kimmons, Belinda (Duane) Fischer and Penny (Mal) McCawley; one brother, Bill (Carolyn) McQuiston; brother-in-law, J.C. (Lou Jean) Cook four nieces, Kimberly Phoenix, Katie Janik, Amy McCawley and Shannon Cook; and two nephews, Darin Fischer and Jake Elder; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Arthur Eugene "Art" Porting, 91, of Rifle, Colorado, passed away on September 28, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. &nbsp;He was born on January 30, 1932, in Kansas City, KS. Art was a beloved father, known for his sweet and flirty nature, always with a wink. He had a great sense of humor and was a dedicated fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the University of Kansas Jayhawks.

Art is survived by his two daughters, Terri and Debi, his stepdaughter Linda, their spouses, and his extended family of grandchildren and great grandchildren. &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife Freeda, his brother Raymond, and both parents, Gus and Goldie.

Art graduated from Hutchinson High School and went on to serve in the Naval Reserves. He pursued a career as an optician, which he dedicated his entire working life to. Many in Hutchinson may remember seeing him selling tickets at the Kansas State Fair.

Outside of work, Art enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including bowling, fishing, and boating. He was a founding member of the Hutchinson Water Sports Club and loved water skiing in his free time. He taught many families how to water ski.

Art spent his final years as a resident in the Grand River Health Care Center where he was loved by all those who took great care of him. He was one of the first residents relocated to the new facility in 2021. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Grand River Health Care Center by sending a check in Art’s memory to GRHCC, 701 E 5th St, Rifle, CO 81750.

A celebration of Art's life will be held in Hutchinson, KS in the summer of 2024, and will be announced at a later date. Hutchinson Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Art Porting will be remembered as a wonderful father, a funny and kind-hearted man, and a cherished member of the community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Virginia Lee Ewertz, 81, of South Hutchinson, KS, died September 28, 2023, at Hospice House in Hutchinson, KS. She was born August 11, 1942, in Goddard, KS, to Paul H. and Frances E. (Girrens) Robben.

Virginia graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Wichita, KS, in 1961. She worked as an electrical technician at Melles Griot in Carlsbad, CA, for many years. Virginia enjoyed crafting, camping, and playing cards. She was of the Catholic faith.

On February 2, 1963, Virginia married Kenneth M. Ewertz, in Shulte, KS. He died December 10, 2004.

She is survived by: her children, Roxanna Ewertz Krtek (Robert) of San Marcos, CA, Kent Ewertz (Carrie) of Menifee, CA, Nikki K. Hutton (Troy) of Hutchinson, KS; grandchildren, Veronica Madera (Oscar) of Escondido, CA, Samantha Ewertz of Riverside, CA, Matthew Ewertz (Jeani) of Riverside, CA, Emily Krtek of San Marcos, CA, Alex Hutton of Hutchinson, KS; great-grandchildren, Lakai Madera, Adaline Ewertz; siblings, Sheila Guerra (Virgil) of Springdale, AR, Donna Kay Ahne (Mike) of Conway Springs, KS, Paul Robben (Kathy) of Wichita, KS; and many extended family members.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Harvey Robben.

Kenneth Robert “Ken” Kelley, 75, died September 26, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. &nbsp;He was born June 7, 1948, in El Dorado, AR, to Odell and Jean (Turner) Kelley.

Ken graduated from Lincoln High School, Lincoln, NE. &nbsp;He proudly served in the United States Army from 1968-1971, during the Vietnam War. &nbsp;Ken worked in sales for various manufactured housing companies, and was currently working for Champion Homes of York, NE. &nbsp; Work never felt like work to Ken; he looked forward to it each and every day. When he could, Ken played golf and softball. &nbsp;Faith was important to him. &nbsp;Ken was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, where he previously served as a member of the Outreach Commission. &nbsp;Currently, Ken was serving on the Board of Elders. &nbsp;In addition, as member of the Gideons, Ken participated in the Reno County Jail Ministry, where he had a gift for developing special relationships and impacting lives. When his health began to change, Ken’s family deemed him “Kelley Strong”, encouraging him to keep fighting. &nbsp;He was a devoted husband, father, and “Papa” to his 10 amazing grandchildren.&nbsp;

On February 14, 1981, he married MaryAnn Frances Kampschnieder, in Lincoln, NE.
