Lowell (Red) Meier entered the kingdom of heaven&nbsp;on Saturday, February 12,2022&nbsp;at Ellinwood Hospital.&nbsp; The son of Claus and Marie Scheuerman Meier born on the family farm near Bison, Kansas, March 26, 1932.&nbsp; Red entered the Army&nbsp;on 1952, a veteran of the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged in 1957.&nbsp; He worked for&nbsp;Northern&nbsp;Natural&nbsp;Gas (Enron) for 44 years.

On July 6, 1957 he married&nbsp;Carolin (Sue) Meier&nbsp;in&nbsp;Bushton, Kansas. Sue entered heavens gates&nbsp;February 2018.&nbsp; Red and Sue made their home in the Claflin area&nbsp;and were blessed&nbsp;with four children: Ricky, Christy, Cheryl and Byron. &nbsp;Red is survived by grandchildren&nbsp;Byron (Betsy) Landis, Courtney (Samantha) Landis, Christopher (Morgan) Isern, CayLee Isern and &nbsp;Cody (Anna) Isern.&nbsp; Great grandsons: Ni’Shaune, Koas’Tyne and A’lec Landis and Theodore Landis.&nbsp;Red was preceded in death&nbsp;of&nbsp;his two sons Ricky and Byron, sisters MaryLeen&nbsp;Brown,&nbsp;Joann Wunder and Wanda Kayartz. &nbsp;Additional survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.&nbsp; Red was an avid sports fan, attending games throughout the region.

Shannan Deanne Souder, 54, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 11, 2022, surrounded by family at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO.&nbsp; She worked in the health care industry, most recently as a support provider for MCDS (Multi Community Diversified Services) in McPherson.

Shannan was born on August 17, 1967, in North Kansas City, MO, the daughter of David E. and Susan K. (Brandt) Souder. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1985.&nbsp; She attended Hutchinson Community College.

Survivors include: her husband, Dennis Embrey of the home; three children, Chad Richert (Justin Cook) of Dallas, TX, AshLeigh Brodin of Kansas City, MO, and Sierra Kerbs of Joplin, MO; three siblings, Scott Souder of Kansas City, MO, Aric Souder (Tara) of McPherson, KS, and Kelli Jarvis of McPherson, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.&nbsp;

Ryker Scott Goering, of Hutchinson, infant son of Brad and Jennifer Goering, went to be with Jesus on February 5, 2022, at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha, NE. He was born November 2, 2021, in Hutchinson.

Ryker may have only lived on this earth a short time, but he was full of personality and sass. He was a very observant little guy with endless expressions that told you exactly what he was thinking or what he wanted. Ryker loved his pacifier, music/background tunes, stories, and being held. He absolutely despised baths, tummy time, and diaper changes.&nbsp;

Since Ryker lived all his life in hospitals, he became very accustomed to the constant beeping of machines and doctor speeches. Ryker eventually learned to sleep right through them. Although he did always let his parents know when his “favorite” doctor was on the way by filling his diaper excessively (literally every time). Ryker also loved all of his nurses and other support people. Attention was something he definitely knew how to get, and he thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.

Ryker is survived by: his parents; grandparents, Greg and Pam Goering of Inman, Brian and Joyce Lies of Kingman; uncles and aunts, Jordan and Amanda Goering of Inman, Chris and Ashley Joly of Wichita, Bradley Lies of Minneola, Jerrod Lies of Hays; and cousins, Mya Goering and Amelia Joly.

Constance Joan “Connie” Owens, 84, went home to be with her Lord and friend, Jesus, on February 11, 2022. She was born March 21, 1937, in Kinsley, to Theodore M. and Audrey O. (Morris) McGill.

Connie attended primary school in Kinsley, grade school in Phoenix, AZ, high school in Hutchinson, and finishing school in Columbus, OH. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

On June 5, 1955, Connie married Leslie G. Owens, at 10th&nbsp;Avenue Evangelical United Brethren Church in Hutchinson, where they were members for 12 years. Later, Connie was baptized and became an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Hutchinson. She loved her Lord and was active in evangelism and taught Christian education.

Connie worked as a business partner with her husband and sons in several business ventures. She liked to write and was a member of Kansas Author’s Club, where she held office and a manager of the Kansas State Writer’s Contest for Prose. Connie loved animals and was a supporter of Hutchinson Animal Shelter. She tutored at the Hutchinson Library, USD 308 grade schools, and the Salvation Army. Connie loved children and wrote stories, books, and a one-act play for the Primary Department of Sunday School, where she organized a fund-raiser to create a Children’s Christian Library. She was interested in civic matters and wrote many articles for the Western Front opinion page of the Hutchinson News.

Connie is survived by: her children, beloved daughter Stephany Miller and husband Jim of Aurora, NE, dear son, Brad Owens of Hutchinson; two precious grandchildren, Riley Miller and Cameron Owens; and sister, Marilyn Castor of Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; an infant daughter, Vicki Lynn Owens; dear husband, Leslie Owens; and dear son, Bret Owens.

She started the physical therapy department at Pratt Regional Medical Center and was the chief physical therapist. She also worked as a physical therapist at the Kingman Hospital. She went to work at Industrial Sports and Rehab for Dr. Estivo in Wichita. She was also a legal consultant for workman's comp. She was a member of Sawyer United Methodist Church. She enjoyed family gatherings, craft projects, reading, watching sports and making cards for her nieces, nephews and cousins. She is survived by her siblings, Lyle (Cathy) Dauner of Mankato, Kyra Dauner of Pratt and Darin Dauner of Sawyer; nephews, Christopher (Callie) Dauner and Tanner (Jasmin) Dauner; nieces, Jennifer (Wyatt) Harris and Krystle Dauner; great-nephews, Ethan Harris, Sawyer Harris and Kellan Dauner; and great-nieces, Delaney Harris, Charley Dauner and Harper Dauner. Janice was born in Beloit, Kansas on August 11, 1944, a daughter of Dorotha (Jarvis) and Ralph Bohnert. Janice attended the Jewell grade schools and graduated from Jewell High School, Jewell, Kansas. She then attended Brown Mackie Business School, Salina, Kansas Janice Marie Bohnert was united in marriage to Gregory Lee Meyer on June 20, 1981 at Grace Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in McPherson, Kansas. Janice was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She worked for Farmers Alliance Insurance Company for 30 years. Janice was a member of member of the American Legion Post 24 Ladies Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 Auxiliary both of McPherson and the International Harvester Kansas Chapter 3. Janice enjoyed cooking and was the best. She and Greg both enjoyed all the trips with the members of the International Harvester Kansas Chapter 3. She also enjoyed collecting dolls. Theodore James “Ted” McVay, age 75, of Sun City West, Arizona passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 while surrounded by his family, at Banner Gateway Medical Center, Gilbert, Arizona. Ted was born in Concordia, Kansas on September 18, 1946, the son of Mary Ruth Jenson and William James McVay. He attended schools in McPherson, Kansas and graduated from McPherson High School in 1964. He pursued his dream of playing college football by attending Hutchinson Junior College on a football scholarship after high school and then went on to play football at Kansas State University. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1968 and was drafted into the U. S. Air Force proudly serving his country. Upon being honorably discharged in 1972, he served a brief stint with the Boy Scouts of America and was then offered an opportunity in the banking industry in Nortonville, Kansas in 1975 which led to a lifelong career in the banking industry. He was appointed and elected to numerous leadership roles with the Kansas Bankers Association, Community Bankers Association of Kansas, Bankers Bank of Kansas and other financial institutions over the years. Ted officially “retired” from Farmers State Bank in McPherson in 2012 but continued to serve on the board of directors and in an advisory capacity until his death. Ted was involved in various community and civic organizations in each community he called home. Those who knew and loved Ted knew how much he loved his grandkids and K-State football. His best days were when he could combine both! After retiring, he enjoyed the beautiful weather in Arizona which allowed him to participate in his other loves—GOLF and Softball! He and Sue enjoyed their traveling adventures especially to Roatan, Honduras and no matter where he traveled he always saw a friend. Shirley was an incredible cook and canner. If there was a family gathering you knew that she was going to bring her famous baked beans, and delicious apple pie. In her early years, she was a huge supporter of MDA and frequently volunteered at their events. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and journaling every sermon, thought and daily event that was important to her. Throughout her years she was a loving caregiver to her sons and husband, and openly cared for many others. Many know that she was a Pepsi loving, beauty shop going, angel collecting, feisty wife, mother and grandmother. Many will miss her long talks on the phone, her caring concern for those who travel daily for work, her many stories of her life and family. The last three years of her life have been filled with so much joy due to the friends that she has made at Washington Heights. You ladies changed her life and filled it with so much joy.

Shirley was the loving mother of Byron and Randy. On February 16, 1973, she married the love of her life Teddy James Carlton at the First Christian Church, in Hutchinson.

Shirley is survived by: her sister, Shirley Carlton, Texas; foster son, Robert (Karla) Cruz, Hutchinson; foster daughter, Rhoda (Mark) Kretzer, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Naisha (Travis) Miller, Hutchinson, Jordan (Lexee) Cruz, Lawrence, Cole (Shayla) Cruz, Hutchinson; and great-grandchildren, Nixon, Haven and Conlee. John graduated from Salina Central High School in 1968, and attended Hutchinson Community College. &nbsp;On June 10, 1973, he married Kay Guy, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;They shared almost 49 years together. &nbsp;

John was employed by Superior Boiler Works after college and sold real estate for Tucker Agency and Caldwell-Banker Real Estate. &nbsp;For 35 years, he was self-employed as an insurance adjuster. &nbsp;John loved fishing, hunting, auto body projects, and never missed his children or grandchildren’s activities or events. &nbsp;He loved coaching youth baseball and softball. &nbsp;Most of all, John loved his family.

John is survived by: his wife, Kay of Hutchinson; daughters, Tori (Luke) Koester of Derby and Kelly (Josh) Miller-Davies of Hutchinson; son, Jeff (Sarah) Miller of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Sebastian, Louna and Cole; sisters, Elaine (Ralph) Berry of Sunriver, OR; Louise Creamer of Wells, KS; brother, Lynn Miller of Hutchinson; brothers-in-law, Erwin (Sue) Guy&nbsp; and Kenny (Kristy) Guy of Hutchinson; 11 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mary Katherine (Herbstreith) Trostle, age 85.&nbsp; She passed away peacefully on February 8, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society-Hutchinson Village.&nbsp; Mary was born May 3, 1936, in Sabetha, KS, to Vernie J. Herbstreith and Helen Frances Wende.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernie on March 29, 1987, and Helen on August 23, 1991.

Mary married Gary Dean Trostle on October 11, 1969, in Reno County, KS, and they moved to his farm.&nbsp; Gary preceded her in death on January 18, 2022, just three weeks prior to her passing.&nbsp; She was the oldest of four children, Dale, Jerry, and Bill Herbstreith. &nbsp;Mary went to school in Sabetha, KS, Axtell, KS, and Manhattan, KS.&nbsp;

She was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched.&nbsp; For over 42 years, Mary worked in many areas of administration at the Good Samaritan facility in Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; She loved and touched the hearts of all the residents in her care.&nbsp; Mary was constantly engaged in the residents' lives and would spend her free time on the weekends planning activities to help them embrace life and make them laugh.&nbsp; She even had the residents come to her home during the Christmas season for Christmas dinner, which of course she made herself, as she loved to cook and took great pride in giving to others.&nbsp; Mary was also very active helping on the farm during harvest time, enjoyed taking trips with her brothers, and enjoyed crafting and making items for the residents.&nbsp; She never sat idle.&nbsp;

Mary was always giving of herself.&nbsp; Most of all she loved her family and instilled in all of them strong values and beliefs that serve them well to this day.&nbsp; She was a mother to her daughter, Melody Smith, and her son, Steven Trostle.&nbsp; Mary was a loving, doting, proud grandmother to her grandsons, Michael Bascom and wife Sara, Cody Smith and wife Hannah, and her granddaughter, Kayla Smith.&nbsp; She was even blessed to be a great-grandmother to great-grandson, Logan Smith, great-granddaughter, Savannah Smith, and great-grandson, Gabe Ferguson.

Mary is survived by all three of her brothers, a great-aunt on her mother’s side, and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Her loving spirit will live on in all of her family's lives until they join her in eternal life.

Lennea O. Nikkel, 91, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Schowalter Villa.&nbsp; In life, she was an intelligent, witty, active person, and an accomplished musician. Nea died of dementia.&nbsp; She was born September 7, 1930, in Clay Center, Kansas, the daughter of Harvey Louis and Alice Lennea (Berggren) Oetinger. She grew up in Morganville, Kansas.

She attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, and later graduated from Bethel College with a Bachelor's degree in Education.

Lennea was united in marriage to Vernon Lloyd Nikkel on June 11, 1950, in Morganville.&nbsp;

They began their married life in Weskan, Kansas, as teachers. After becoming a mother, Lennea became a devoted homemaker and piano teacher.

Lennea was a member of the Hesston United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir, played organ and piano, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the women’s group. She served on the Hesston School Board for many years.&nbsp; She was a member of the Lion's Club and Red Hats and active at the Senior Center.&nbsp; She was also on the original board for the Dyck Arboretum.

Lennea is survived by her son, San (Lisa) Nikkel of Moundridge; daughter, Greta (Bill) Baack of Manhattan; sisters, Rose Mina (Norman) Simmons and Ann Parr; brother, Bill (Grace) Oetinger; two grandchildren, Teri Griffith and Emelia (Chris) Housser; and three great-grandchildren, Amethyst Weinhoffer (Ollie Boyer),&nbsp; Axel Housser and Gunnar Housser.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; and parents, Harvey and Alice Oetinger.

Lennea O. Nikkel, 91, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Schowalter Villa.&nbsp; In life, she was an intelligent, witty, active person, and an accomplished musician. Nea died of dementia.&nbsp; She was born September 7, 1930, in Clay Center, Kansas, the daughter of Harvey Louis and Alice Lennea (Berggren) Oetinger. She grew up in Morganville, Kansas.She attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, and later graduated from Bethel College with a Bachelor's degree in Education.Lennea was united in marriage to Vernon Lloyd Nikkel on June 11, 1950, in Morganville.&nbsp;They began their married life in Weskan, Kansas, as teachers. After becoming a mother, Lennea became a devoted homemaker and piano teacher.Lennea was a member of the Hesston United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir, played organ and piano, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the women’s group. She served on the Hesston School Board for many years.&nbsp; She was a member of the Lion's Club and Red Hats and active at the Senior Center.&nbsp; She was also on the original board for the Dyck Arboretum.Lennea is survived by her son, San (Lisa) Nikkel of Moundridge; daughter, Greta (Bill) Baack of Manhattan; sisters, Rose Mina (Norman) Simmons and Ann Parr; brother, Bill (Grace) Oetinger; two grandchildren, Teri Griffith and Emelia (Chris) Housser; and three great-grandchildren, Amethyst Weinhoffer (Ollie Boyer),&nbsp; Axel Housser and Gunnar Housser.She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; and parents, Harvey and Alice Oetinger.Cremation is planned with a family memorial service to be held later. Franklin Pankratz passed away on his 98th&nbsp;birthday at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community on Feb. 11, 2022

He was born on Feb. 11, 1924, northwest of Inman, the son of John and Eva (Ediger) Pankratz. He married Kathryn A. Regehr on May 19, 1946 at Bethel Mennonite Church. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2000. He was a lifetime member of Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church.

They raised five sons on a farm north of Inman: Jim (Helen), Hutchinson; Gene (Miriam), N. Newton; Keith (Jan), Buhler; Lee (Kelley), Hutchinson; and Bob (Kelly), Wichita. Surviving are 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a sister, JoAnn Snyder of Fresno, Calif. His brother, Emerson, preceded him in death. &nbsp;

After a private family burial, the memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 at Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church with lunch following. Kevin Matthew Neufeld, 36, formerly of McPherson, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022, in Downer’s Grove, IL. He was a construction worker and United States Army Veteran.

Kevin was born on October 9, 1985, in Newton, KS, the son of Paul Stanley and Rhonda Kay (Epp) Neufeld.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School in 2004.&nbsp;

He joined the United States Army in 2006 and served one deployment to Iraq as a Radar Specialist.&nbsp; He was his platoon leader in basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. &nbsp;He was first in his MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) class, 1st&nbsp;Battalion, 78th&nbsp;Field Artillery. &nbsp;He was honorably discharged in 2011.

Kevin joined God’s family at an early age.&nbsp; He enjoyed his early childhood life on the family dairy farm in northeast Marion County, KS.&nbsp; He loved his military life, which gave him direction, and serving his country.

He struggled with PTSD through military service. This led to his struggles, homelessness, and addictions for the remainder of his life.

Kevin is now in the presence of his Lord, completely healed from his addictions and struggles.

He is survived by: his parents, Stan &amp; Carla Neufeld of McPherson; and Rhonda Liles of Grove, OK; two brothers, Scott Neufeld of Grove, OK and Daniel Word of Wichita; three sisters, Laura (Dustin) Hendricks of Canton; Amy (Josh) White of McPherson; and Megan (Roby) Levika of Kansas City, MO; nephews, Cohen Hendricks, Cade Hendricks, and Otto White; nieces, Kristin Neufeld, Harper White, and Mia Levika; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mary enjoyed cooking, sewing, and playing board games.&nbsp; She was a homemaker, farmer, and owned a grocery store in Yoder.&nbsp; Mary was a member of Journey Mennonite Church at Yoder, and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

On June 2, 1957, she married Ray W. Troyer, at the Yoder Mennonite Church.&nbsp; They shared over 64 years of marriage.

Mary is survived by:&nbsp; her husband, Ray W. Troyer of South Hutchinson; sons, Loren (Stephanie) Troyer of Angola, IN, and Timothy L. (Maria) Troyer of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Madison Troyer, Max Troyer, Matt Harding, and Miles (Becky) Harding; great-grandchildren, Kendall, Colton, and Keira Harding; sisters, Fannie Mae Bontrager, Joyce (Larry) Parcell, Marilyn (John) Carmen, and Carolyn (Jim) Hartman; and sister-in-law, Barb Kaufman.

Philip graduated from Sterling High School in 1951.&nbsp; He worked as a realtor for 16 years, Cessna nine years, and in banking as a data processor for 21 years.&nbsp; Philip was a huge KU Jayhawk fan, and was known for wearing cowboy hats and western shirts.

Philip is survived by:&nbsp; children, Pamala Stansel (Lynn), Mitchell Thompson, Donald Thompson (Natalie), and Bradley Thompson (Nancy); sisters, Twila Price and Eva Huntsman; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents; son, Lee Thompson; sister, Leah Currie; and brother, Neil Thompson.

Gene was commanding a Civilian Conservation Corps camp at the time. After Gene was called to active Army duty in January 1942, the family lived in Newton, most of the war. In early 1946 they moved to the family ranch south of Deerhead, to help Gene’s parents operate the ranch. Charlie and sisters Katharine and Mary Jean attended PS 63 at Deerhead. Charlie went to High School in Medicine Lodge and was a proud member of the Glorious Class of 57. He went to Kansas State University of Agriculture and Applied Science. He had the good fortune to marry Louise Miller in Hutchinson August 7, 1965. They moved to Abilene, Texas in April 1966 where they were joined by daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) in July. In 1967 they moved to Clay Center, Nebraska, where Charlie worked for the US Meat Animal Research Center. In August 1970 son, Vaughn David, was born. The family came to Medicine Lodge in May 1979 to operate the Ranch with Gene and Mary. Charlie enjoyed ranching, hunting, fishing, German shorthair pointers, Formula 1 racing, and family activities. He served his communities for 40 years as a volunteer fireman and 30 years as the Midnight Voice of the Barber County Sheriff. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and his wife. He is survived by his sisters, Katharine DeGeer of Pratt, and Mary Jean Benefiel (Bill) of Vancouver, Washington; his brother, Jim DeGeer (Teri Sue) of Erie; his children, Beth DeGeer of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Vaughn DeGeer of Medicine Lodge. John Allen Harding, Sr., 81, of Medicine Lodge,died on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at his residence. He was born on December 20, 1940 in Goodland, the son of Clifford and Ellen (Hendershot) Harding. John was a humble, hard-working man. As part owner/operator of two IGA grocery stores, he was also supervisor, warehouse manager, store constructor and leasing manager for Fleming Foods. He was also a carpenter and spent a good part of his later years doing remodeling and construction. John was devoted to the Lord. His love for his wife, Wanda, was unconditional. He looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for bass fishing and did for over 50 years with his best friend, Jerry Pates. John was very passionate about animals, enjoyed reading and prayed daily. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Medicine Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Wanda Sue (Ricke) Harding; his children, Kelley (Robert) Massingill and Shelley Wombacher; grandchildren, Jake &amp; Alex (Andrea) Polzin, Britt, Clay, &amp; Devin Massingill, Emerson (Ishmeal) Floyd, Bailey (Silas) Miller, Brant Russell, Becky (Dustin) King, and Lexi Lesperance.; great-grandchildren, Vada Sue King and Houston O’Dell Simon; many nieces and nephews. John Allen Harding, Sr., 81, of Medicine Lodge,died on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at his residence. He was born on December 20, 1940 in Goodland, the son of Clifford and Ellen (Hendershot) Harding. John was a humble, hard-working man. As part owner/operator of two IGA grocery stores, he was also supervisor, warehouse manager, store constructor and leasing manager for Fleming Foods. He was also a carpenter and spent a good part of his later years doing remodeling and construction. John was devoted to the Lord. His love for his wife, Wanda, was unconditional. He looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for bass fishing and did for over 50 years with his best friend, Jerry Pates. John was very passionate about animals, enjoyed reading and prayed daily. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Medicine Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Wanda Sue (Ricke) Harding; his children, Kelley (Robert) Massingill and Shelley Wombacher; grandchildren, Jake &amp; Alex (Andrea) Polzin, Britt, Clay, &amp; Devin Massingill, Emerson (Ishmeal) Floyd, Bailey (Silas) Miller, Brant Russell, Becky (Dustin) King, and Lexi Lesperance.; great-grandchildren, Vada Sue King and Houston O’Dell Simon; many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Kristi R. (Harding) Massingill, one son, John Allen Harding, Jr., one brother, Charles C. John Allen Harding  |1940-2022| 

Mrs. Carolyn Martens, 82, of Newton, went home to be with the Lord February 7, 2022, after an extended illness. She was born March 16, 1939 at Trumann, Arkansas to Jimmie and Frances Owens. She grew up in Memphis Tennessee.

She received Christ as her Savior in early youth and dedicated her life to Him. &nbsp;She received the RN in nursing degree from Baptist School of Nursing and attended Bob Jones University. &nbsp;Nursing was indeed a ministry for her, and many testified of her kind and tender care. Her life was given in ministry to her husband and family and as pastor’s wife for 60 years. She was trained in music and loved the songs of the Christian faith. She was a helpmate in each of the churches where they served. &nbsp;She cared deeply for her immediate family as well as extended family. &nbsp;Her own health issue made her sensitive of others with the same. &nbsp;

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only sibling, Mrs. Ethelda McKeever in 2015. &nbsp;

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rev Jerroll Martens; daughter Robin Martens of Wichita; son Rod and Holly of Wichita; granddaughters India, Sydni and Audrey and great granddaughter, Anais. &nbsp;

Funeral service will be held at Meridian Baptist Church, Newton, Kansas, Monday February 14 at 11AM. With Pastor Scott Kliewer presiding.&nbsp; Visitation will be at Petersen’s Funeral home Sunday, February 13, 1-5PM with family 3-5PM. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton.

Lewis Carl Stark was born February 16, 1932 in Newton.&nbsp; He met Jesus and had his sight restored on February 7, 2022.

He was the son of Gus and Ella (Reiss) of Newton.&nbsp; Lewis was a life-long member of Newton Nazarene Church.&nbsp; He gave his life to Jesus at the age of 33.&nbsp; He loved to share his faith and if anyone had doubts about where they were spending eternity he would share John 14:6 and urge them to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.&nbsp; His life of service included foster care, driving the church bus for 22 years, transporting foster children and medical transports.&nbsp; On some days he would drive as many as 500 miles.&nbsp; It was on one of those trips that he began having vision problems.&nbsp; He lost his eyesight on Monday, June 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the age of 79.

Lewis or “Lewie” as he was known to his coworkers, retired as Supervisor from Cessna Wallace after more than 45 years of dedicated service. He loved to take road trips and traveled extensively, visiting almost all 50 states. His competitive nature came out in late night card games but it was tempered by his great sense of humor.&nbsp; Lewis loved a good clean joke, funny quotes, singing hymns at the top of his lungs, and “watching the grass grow”.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith (Moyer), sister Ruth Ann (Dennis) Goecks, sister Norma Jean Gooch, daughters LaRita (Gene) Schandorff, Jo (Rocky) Lamar, Mary (Chris) Swan, and sons Brian (Carisa) Stark, James Stark.&nbsp; He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren whom he also loved dearly and prayed for daily.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Arnold and his sister Ruby.

The family is very grateful to the dedicated and loving staff of the Home Health and Hospice for their in-home health care and hospice care!

Visitation will be held at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, on Feb. 14 from 5:00-9:00 PM. Celebration of Life service is Feb. 15 at 10:00 AM at Newton Nazarene Church.

Calvin Elton Kessler, 82, died on February 5, 2022, at NMCHealth in Newton.

He was born September 2, 1939, in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, the son of Earl and Inez (Himes) Kessler.

In September of 1956, Calvin joined the United States Army, proudly served until December of 1959. Calvin then joined the National Guard from which he would retire.

On April 19, 1986, Calvin was united in marriage to Sharon Melott. The couple celebrated their 36th anniversary this past year.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Sharon Kessler; children, Jenean Kessler, Shawn (Janice) Kessler and Rayetta Kessler; step-children, Tim (Diana) Howell, Connie (Bill) Dutton, and Rick (Kara) Melott; brother, Richard (Joyce) Kessler; and sister, Donna Boyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-daughter, Renee Howell; and great-granddaughter, Arianna Voth.

Visitation will be from 5:00pm – 7:00pm, Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. A graveside service will be at 1:00pm, Friday, February 18, 2022, at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.

Juanita “Joy” Newlin, died on February 4, 2022, at NMCHealth in Newton.

She was born on August 5, 1942, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Orville and Hazel (Bringham) Hester.

After graduation Joy met and married Joe Young, Jr.. The couple then moved to Wisconsin where they started their family. After many years they divorced and Joy moved back to Kansas to be with her family.

On July 7th, 1991, Joy married Randy Newlin. The couple spent 30 wonderful years of marriage together.

Joy enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafting, and gardening – she was known for her beautiful flowers! She also enjoyed lending a helping hand to others when needed. Joy loved and cherished her family and would always remember them on special occasions.

She worked many different jobs, including physical therapy, bakery, medical offices, and volunteering at food pantries and clothing centers.

Joy’s strong faith in Jesus helped her persevere through all the hardship’s she endured throughout her life. She loved her church family at Newton Christian Church, where she played an active role in volunteering. It was through church that Joy met her dear friend, Hazel Richter, creating a very treasured friendship over the past 7 years.

Joy is survived by her husband, Randy Newlin; children, Kelly (Kellie) Young, Jeanne (Loren) Kunert, Matthew (Michelle) Newlin, Leanne Newlin, John “Crid” Newlin, and Josh (Nichole) Newlin; sisters, Lois (Bob) Drake and Jeanie Flaming; 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Brian Scott Young; brother, Rick Hester; and sister, Fern Vickors.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Newton Christian Church, 210 Southport Drive in Newton.
