Carol Ann Giles, 75, died February 10, 2023, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born May 22, 1947, in Wichita, KS, to Elmer Lester and Wilma Lucille (Nossaman) Spain.

Carol graduated from Kingman High School in 1965 and went on to become an LPN at Hutchinson Hospital where she retired. Carol attended Solid Rock Bible Church, South Hutchinson.

Carol is survived by sisters, Sandra Polley and Evelyn Stucky, both of Hutchinson.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Solid Rock Bible Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Becky graduated from Buhler High School and Hutchinson Community College. She was a dedicated mother and homemaker for many years. Becky loved to spend time in nature, especially with flowers and birds. Some of her hobbies included cooking, baking, tennis, knitting, and golf. Becky was the oldest sister of five girls and loved her role as the big sister. She was also a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson

Becky married Gary Schmidt on August 24, 1967; he passed on December 5, 1969. She married Garry Rich on July 5, 1970; he passed away on December 7, 1971. Becky married Phil Hofer on February 24, 1978, who passed away on November 21, 1989. On July 30, 1993, Becky married Dan Rich, in Hutchinson. He survives.

Judith Ann Cook, 75, of Valley Center, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023. She was born in rural Galena, Missouri to Hilman "Jack" Crumbliss and Betty Lee (Grisham) Crumbliss. She grew up in the Bridgeport area where she attended school. She graduated from Wichita Heights High School in Wichita, Kansas. After graduation, she went to Butler Community College and went on to obtain her nursing degree as an RN. She began her working career at the Veteran's Hospital, Wesley and the Kansas Heart Hospital where she retired from.&nbsp;

She had a gift of ministering and helping people not only in the medical field, but every day life. Judy accepted Christ as her Savior as a teenager at People's Free Church. She enjoyed music and played the accordian. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden and crocheting gifts of love. She loved her dogs and watching Kansas City Chiefs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by son Jason Miller, parents Jack and Betty Crumbliss, brother Ronnie Crumbliss, nephew Justin Crumbliss and husband Clint Cook.

Judy accepted Christ as her Savior as a teenager at People's Free Church. She enjoyed music and played the accordian. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden and crocheting gifts of love. Andrew (Andy) E. Krause, 89, of Hillsboro, KS entered into God's Kingdom on Feb 9th, 2023. Andy was born January 4th, 1934 in Goessel, KS to Ed and Tilly Krause.

Andy joined the Army in 1951 during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Austria where he was an Air Artillery, E6, Tech Sergeant. He was discharged in 1954 and attended welding school in Ohio. Andy married Lois Jean Maltbie (deceased) in 1955 and they lived in Canton, KS and Marion, KS. Andy was a well respected welder and specialized in pipeline welding and bridge welding and worked in KS, OK, GA, SC, NY and Washington D.C. Andy eventually concentrated his efforts to bride building and built over 30 bridges for Marion County KS. This was his preferred work and he worked well into his late 60's.

Andy was an active member of the American Legion in Hillsboro and volunteered his time for many of their community efforts. Many will fondly remember Andy for his kind spirit as he made his "rounds" walking around Hillsboro and Marion. Andy enjoyed exercising, traveling and spending time with his family and many friends.

Andy is survived by his three children, eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Gladys M. Yoder, 86, died February 10, 2023, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born January 12, 1937, in Hutchinson, to Earl and Mae (Brinkmeier) Schletzbaum.

Gladys attended Countryside Baptist Church. She worked with the Fine Arts at the Kansas State Fair for many years. After retiring from bookkeeping at Hageman Accounting, Gladys learned beadwork. She made beautiful bracelets and necklaces. She enjoyed being a food judge for county fairs all over Kansas. Gladys was well known for judging food and was requested every year. Gladys was an avid cookbook collector. Gladys was very active. She always made an effort to attend her grandchildren’s events. Gladys was loving and cared for others. She was a great mom and grandma.

On August 25, 1957, she married Harold L. Yoder, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. They shared over 49 years of marriage, prior to his passing on January 21, 2007.

Gladys is survived by: her grandchildren, Sarah (Josh) Cowan, McPherson, Matthew Ford, Hutchinson, Kylie Ford, Hutchinson, Patrick (Kristen) Yoder, Hutchinson; brother, John (Ruth) Schletzbaum, Washington; sister, Caroline (Ray) Schmucker, Plevna; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia LaRee Shumpert, 61, died February 7, 2023, at Chase County Care and Rehab, Cottonwood Falls. She was born September 6, 1961, in Partridge, to Anthony David and Janice LaRee (Northrop) McGraw.

Virginia graduated from Nickerson High School in 1979. Following graduation, she attended Fort Hays State University for four years. Virginia played basketball, baseball and track in high school, and in college she was a bowler. Above all, she was a devoted mother and grandmother who always put her family first.

She was a member of South Hutchinson Christian Church.

Virginia is survived by: son, Alexander (Morgan) Shumpert of Hutchinson; brother, David (Beverly) McGraw of Brandon, FL; and grandchildren, Marcus and Charleigh.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Anthony and Janice McGraw; sister, Colleen Millett; and two brothers, Anthony and Daniel McGraw.

John Everett King, Jr. was born on December 25, 1947 to parents John&nbsp; Everett King and Alta Neoma King (Fielden).&nbsp; He resided in Springfield Missouri from birth until October of 1983. He went to Central High School and college at Southwest Missouri State.&nbsp; He then served in the Army where he was stationed in South Korea on the demilitarized zone. He discovered much later in life that AGENT ORANGE was used there as well as Vietnam.

John Married Judith Ann Andrews on June 29, 1974.&nbsp; They were blessed with two children.&nbsp; Jennifer Lynne (Erickson) March 8, 1980 and John Everett III July 14, 1985. Moving for various employment opportunities, the family lived in Woodstock, NY, Dayton, OH, St. Louis, MO, and in 1998 to Wichita, KS where they have been ever since.&nbsp;

John received a BS in Industrial Engineering and work with small horsepower motors for 45+ years.&nbsp; At one point he worked for a company which put him in China for weeks at a time. It was an amazing opportunity and Judi was able to join him on several occasions.

From childhood he enjoyed Collecting coins and trains and in adulthood added metal detecting to his hobbies. He was always a kid at heart and had a wonderful sense of humor and a fair amount of orneriness.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

He adored his family. When the children were small he always had time to play with them and as they grew he found they loved to be included in his hobbies. They vacationed in places like San Diego and Yellowstone. His grandchildren were a source of pride and joy.

There wasn’t a person he would meet that he couldn’t make into a friend. Everyone he worked with both respected and liked him. His smile and sense of humor made him easy to like.

One of the most important things in his life was that he was a Christian. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young teen and is now in the hands of Jesus Praising HIM and enjoying his new body that has no ills. He passed away Tuesday, February 7 after a brave and valliant struggle with ALS a presumptive disease from Agent Orange.

John is preceded in death by his Mother Alta King and his father John Everett King, Sr.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife Judi (Andrews) King, his daughter Jennifer (Darrin) Erickson, son John Everett (Whitney) King III, 4 grandchildren Tyler Erickson, Abbie Erickson, Evelyn King, Charlotte King and many cousins and his three furry companions; Captain, Cody and Emma.

On April 8, 1959, she married&nbsp;Galen Kessler&nbsp;in Salina. They shared over 60 years of marriage.

Joy&nbsp;is survived by: children, Lyn (Jerry) Boone, and Jay Kessler, all of Hutchinson; grandsons, Casey (Sharaun) Hauschild, and Matthew Boone; and great-grandchildren, Landon, Harlow, and Henry Hauschild.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Galen; and son, Gene Kessler.

Max Lee Liby, 80, of Hutchinson, passed away on February 8th, 2023 at Hutchinson Hospital. Max was born in Concordia, KS on June 18, 1942 to Harold Edwin Liby and Reva Charlotte Felt Liby and grew up in Glasco, KS. He was preceded in death by his only sibling, Charlotte Lou Orebaugh of Hobart, OK, and his wife, Yvonne Marie Liby.

Max graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1964 and taught 7th and 8th grade science at Augusta before moving to Mankato in 1966 where he taught Biology, Earth Sciences and Psychology. While in Graduate School he taught the Botany and Embryology Labs. Max switched careers in 1972 when he took a position as a Chemist at Carey Salt Company in Hutchinson, KS. He eventually moved into the main office where he landed the position of Salt Mine Manager in 1980, which he held for 30 years, during which time he was instrumental in the creation of the Salt Mine Museum where visitors can now see his hard hat on display. He retired from the Mine Manager position in 2009 and moved to the Manager position of Hutch Transportation, the company responsible for transporting road salt via rail car. Max never fully retired, working up to the very day of his death, totaling 51 years in the salt industry.

Max was an avid aviator. He belonged to the EAA Ellsworth, KS Chapter, holding the position of Vice President. Max’s pride and joy was his J-3 Piper Cub which he totally rebuilt on his own. He is survived by many wonderful aviation friends who will miss his energetic contribution to General Aviation.

Max is survived by two sons, Harold and wife Barb, and Darren and wife Sachiko, including grandchildren Julian, Chase and Koji. He is also survived by Yvonne’s son Tom Ellis and wife Belinda, including grandchildren Luke and Lauren, and daughter Tammy Thompson and husband David, including granddaughter Aisyn.

Madlyn Lorene Rice died Saturday, January 28 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham, KS, from complications of pneumonia. Madlyn was born October 6, 1932 in Greensburg, Kansas to Sonia and Vernon Wirth and was raised on a farm outside of Greensburg. In addition to raising grain and livestock, her father also bred and trained horses. Madlyn grew up as comfortable riding bareback as she was in the saddle. She also took piano lessons throughout her school years, becoming a skilled musician who favored the classics, especially Beethoven, and traditional hymns. In 1950 she graduated from Greensburg High School, and during the following the 12 years worked in the Greensburg office of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, the Kiowa County Extension office, and as a legal secretary. In 1951 she married Wesley Lowell Thompson and moved to a farm near Haviland, and in 1959 they welcomed their only child, Carol Lynn. Madlyn was a skilled gardener and cook. No one turned down her chicken with homemade noodles, and her brownie sheet cake developed a loyal following among family and friends and is still revered to this day. Madlyn also participated in numerous social clubs and was a long-standing member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. In 1970 she took what became a life-altering step by enrolling in a class “…just for fun” at Friends Bible College (now Barclay College) in Haviland. One class became two, then three, and she was hooked. Although she didn’t yet have a specific goal, Madlyn had developed a passion for learning. Serendipity intervened when her science instructor, Jim Leininger, told her about two other midlife scholars - Noreen Monaghan of Haviland and Beverly Day-Swan of Greensburg - who were hatching a plan to earn their nursing degrees. Madlyn met with them, and the threesome formed a combination carpool/study group. After earning their remaining prerequisites at St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, they enrolled in the nursing program at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. Several years and countless miles later, Madlyn earned her nursing degree from Barton County in 1976, and for 25 years she found tremendous fulfillment working as a nurse in a variety of settings - from hospitals to nursing homes to private residences. She also continued her education, coming within a single class of earning her bachelor’s degree. In 1979 her first marriage ended. Through her work she met Mark Rice, and in 1981 they married. That same year she moved to Greensburg to help care for her mother while Mark stayed on his farm near Pratt. Since she worked in Pratt, she often stayed with Mark, who taught her how to make the perfect steak. They enjoyed quiet days on the farm and traveling together in the Southwest. During her years in Greensburg she joined many local clubs and picked up two new enthusiasms - golf and bridge. Then, in May 2007 the big tornado hit, and Madlyn, like everyone else in Greensburg, had to pick up the pieces of her old life and build something new. She said it was one of the hardest things she’d ever faced and that at times she felt like giving up. Instead, she steadfastly put one foot in front of the other, purchasing a house in Pratt; joining the First Southern Baptist Church; and volunteering to work at the hospital information desk and as a dispatcher for the Pratt community bus. Gradually the pieces knit together, and life was full and satisfying again. In 2013 she moved to assisted living at Parkwood Village. Although her balance and arthritis had worsened, she participated in activities there and continued to enthusiastically shop, lunch, and attend community events with a group of close friends.  </figure>Madlyn Lorene Rice died Saturday, January 28 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham, KS, from complications of pneumonia. Madlyn was born October 6, 1932 in Greensburg, Kansas to Sonia and Vernon Wirth and was raised on a farm outside of Greensburg. In addition to raising grain and livestock, her father also bred and trained horses. Madlyn grew up as comfortable riding bareback as she was in the saddle. She also took piano lessons throughout her school years, becoming a skilled musician who favored the classics, especially Beethoven, and traditional hymns. In 1950 she graduated from Greensburg High School, and during the following the 12 years worked in the Greensburg office of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, the Kiowa County Extension office, and as a legal secretary. In 1951 she married Wesley Lowell Thompson and moved to a farm near Haviland, and in 1959 they welcomed their only child, Carol Lynn. Madlyn was a skilled gardener and cook. No one turned down her chicken with homemade noodles, and her brownie sheet cake developed a loyal following among family and friends and is still revered to this day. Madlyn also participated in numerous social clubs and was a long-standing member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. In 1970 she took what became a life-altering step by enrolling in a class “…just for fun” at Friends Bible College (now Barclay College) in Haviland. One class became two, then three, and she was hooked. Although she didn’t yet have a specific goal, Madlyn had developed a passion for learning. Serendipity intervened when her science instructor, Jim Leininger, told her about two other midlife scholars - Noreen Monaghan of Haviland and Beverly Day-Swan of Greensburg - who were hatching a plan to earn their nursing degrees. Madlyn met with them, and the threesome formed a combination carpool/study group. After earning their remaining prerequisites at St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, they enrolled in the nursing program at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. Several years and countless miles later, Madlyn earned her nursing degree from Barton County in 1976, and for 25 years she found tremendous fulfillment working as a nurse in a variety of settings - from hospitals to nursing homes to private residences. She also continued her education, coming within a single class of earning her bachelor’s degree. In 1979 her first marriage ended. Through her work she met Mark Rice, and in 1981 they married. That same year she moved to Greensburg to help care for her mother while Mark stayed on his farm near Pratt. Since she worked in Pratt, she often stayed with Mark, who taught her how to make the perfect steak. They enjoyed quiet days on the farm and traveling together in the Southwest. During her years in Greensburg she joined many local clubs and picked up two new enthusiasms - golf and bridge. Then, in May 2007 the big tornado hit, and Madlyn, like everyone else in Greensburg, had to pick up the pieces of her old life and build something new. She said it was one of the hardest things she’d ever faced and that at times she felt like giving up. Instead, she steadfastly put one foot in front of the other, purchasing a house in Pratt; joining the First Southern Baptist Church; and volunteering to work at the hospital information desk and as a dispatcher for the Pratt community bus. Gradually the pieces knit together, and life was full and satisfying again. In 2013 she moved to assisted living at Parkwood Village. Although her balance and arthritis had worsened, she participated in activities there and continued to enthusiastically shop, lunch, and attend community events with a group of close friends. Jean was born on February 22, 1934, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Sten Paul and Ruth Agnes (Tate) Jader.&nbsp; She graduated from Marquette High School in 1952.&nbsp; Jean was united in marriage to Charles Junior “Chuck” Jimerson on April 6, 1951, in Marquette, KS.&nbsp; He died December 29, 1983.&nbsp; She married Donald Leroy Nelson on July 6, 1984, in Lindsborg, KS.&nbsp;

She was a member of Valley Community Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Town &amp; Country Club.

William H. Astle, age 96, passed away on Feb. 6, 2023 at Kenwood Plaza, St. John, KS. He was born on April 29, 1926 in Haven, KS, the son of William Homer and Marie A. (Guhl) Astle. Bill was a resident of St. John since 1964. 

On Nov. 11, 1949, he married Doris Jean (Cadman) in Hutchinson, KS., she preceded him in death in 2012. 

Bill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and worked as an oil field pumper throughout his life. He was a member of Antrim United Methodist Church, a life member of the VFW, a former member of the Lions Club, and St. John Saddle Club, and formerly was the treasurer for Rose Valley Township. 

Survivors include two sons, Chuck Astle, Pratt, KS, Jim (Debra) Astle, St. John, KS; a daughter, Ann Franco, Pratt, KS; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife; 2 step-brothers, Bob and Tom Cantwell; sisters, Dorothy Chain, Ruth Aleshire, and Mary Hardy.

Dixon Steadman, 91, of Chase, Kansas, passed away February 6, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born on November 30, 1931, in St. John, Kansas, the son of Clifford Nelson and Blanche Ilene Dixon Steadman. 

Dixon has resided in Chase since 1977, formerly of Wichita. He graduated from Radium High School, Radium, Kansas, with the class of 1949. Dixon served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from July 24, 1952 until January 26, 1962, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received the following awards for his service, Korean Service War, UN Service Medal, National Defensive Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean PUC, Navy Unit Sitation, Drill Instructor, and Korean Defense Service Medal. 

Dixon drove truck for United Van Lines for 16 years, 4 years for Alexander, and retired from Smithway in 2000. Dixon was a life member of the VFW McPherson Post #2715. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. On August 24, 1953, Dixon was united in marriage with Goldie Mae Simmons in Ellinwood, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 20, 1999. He is also preceded in death by his parents, and five children, Debra McClelland, Clifford Steadman, Floyd Steadman, Tredda Steadman, and Goldie Mathis. Dixon is survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 13, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Johnnie Hardie officiating. Judith “Judy” Clare Engelland, 83, died Feb. 6, 2023, in Sterling, Kansas, after a long battle with scleroderma. She was at peace and surrounded by family as she went to be with her Lord.

Judy was born May 9, 1939, to James and Barbara Buel of Sterling. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart John Engelland on August 28, 1960.

Early in their marriage, they lived in Lawrence while John completed his engineering degree at the University of Kansas and Judy worked in administration at the KU math department. They then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for John’s work. Their oldest son Shawn was born there. Then they moved to Rose Hill, Kansas, to be closer to family, where sons Mark and Brent were born.

In 1974, the family returned to Sterling to take over the family farm. Sterling was Judy’s home the rest of her life. While John handled the farm, Judy took charge of the accounting. The couple earned the Kansas Master Farmer and Farm Homemaker award in 1992 for leadership and service to agriculture.

Faith and family were central to her life. She enjoyed working with youth in Albuquerque, Rose Hill, and at Sterling First United Methodist Church, where she was a member for more than 50 years. Whether working with youth or in other ministries, Judy put her faith into action. Whenever there was a church youth activity, you could find Judy working to make positive experiences for everyone. From opening her home to organizing mission trips to Mexico, Judy led by example. Throughout her life, her family counted on her as a faithful prayer warrior.

Judy enjoyed crafting and was an excellent cook and baker. She always made family gatherings and holidays special and treasured time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She and John traveled frequently. They enjoyed 40th and 50th anniversary trips with their children and grandchildren, first to Red River, New Mexico, and then on a Caribbean cruise. The highlight of the couple’s travels was a 2017 trip with their pastor to the Holy Land.

If you knew Judy, you were blessed. She treated everyone with kind, thoughtful attention, truly embodying Jesus’ command to put others before self. Her family and friends thank God for her because they received the rich blessing of her caring nature. She leaves behind a lasting legacy and example to follow.

She is survived by her faithful husband John; son Shawn and daughter in-law Sandra Engelland of Keller, Texas; son Mark and daughter in-law Sarah Engelland of Sterling; son Brent and daughter in-law Laura Engelland of Hutchinson; grandchildren Rachel, Elizabeth, Rebekah, Nathan, Dillon, Anna, Hannah, Jacob, Hayley, Marianna, and Evelyn; great grandsons Elliot and Lukas; sister Sally and brother in-law Jim Haggerty of Sterling; and brother Bob and sister in-law Vicki Buel of Manhattan.

Born October 24, 1935, in White City, KS, Lester was the third of four children born to Lester L. and Eddie B. (Heisse) Harmon.&nbsp; When he was young, Lester was active in 4-H and loved spending time outdoors on the farm, tending his garden, raising livestock and spending time with friends. He graduated from Herington High School in 1953 and served his country in the Kansas National Guard.&nbsp; In 1959, he was united in marriage to Rosalie Mildred Tajchman at St. Mark Catholic Church in Marion, KS. &nbsp;Together, Rosalie and Lester raised three beautiful children, typically in houses on the outskirts of town, where they could raise a few animals and tend a large garden.&nbsp;

Lester began his career with the railroad in 1956 and accepted his conductor promotion in 1959. Throughout his career, Lester would work as a conductor for the Rock Island, Cottonbelt, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific railroads, moving with his family from Herington to Belleville, KS and back again.&nbsp; He retired from the railroad in 1997.

On September 29, 1983, at the First Christian Church in Herington, Lester was united in marriage to Shirley (Bell) Herpich and expanded his family to include 5 stepchildren and numerous grand- and great-grandchildren. Lester and Shirley were very active members of the First Christian Church in Herington, and they enjoyed many happy years together spending time with family, playing cards and games with friends, and travelling in their RV.&nbsp;

Lester Eddie Harmon, 87, passed away peacefully at Brookdale Topeka on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, with family at his side. Katherine Mae “Kathy” Kittle, 81, died peacefully February 7, 2023, at her home. She was born October 9, 1941, in Aurora, NE, to John Thomas and Geraldine Lee (Tatum) Adams.

Kathy graduated from Aurora High School, Aurora, NE.&nbsp; After moving to Hutchinson, she received her associate degree from Hutchinson Community College.&nbsp; Kathy was a professional artist and loved decorating, gardening, and entertaining her family and friends. She had a strong faith, and despite the peaks and valleys in life, her faith never wavered.&nbsp; Kathy loved her church family, and was an active member of the Sterling Evangelical Bible Church.&nbsp; In addition, she was an incredibly devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, supporting her family at their church, school, and community endeavors. One of Kathy’s greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren.&nbsp; Kathy was also a gracious nurturer, always wanting the best for her church, family, friends and community.&nbsp; &nbsp;One example was her being instrumental in helping to start the Nickerson “Make A Difference Day”.&nbsp; Kathy set a humble example for others on how to make a difference, no matter small or large, in other people’s lives.

On July 10, 1965, she married Emery Dean “Bud” Kittle, in Baton Rouge, LA, where they lived for 16 years.&nbsp; In 1981, they returned to the family farm where Bud was born in Nickerson, KS. They shared almost 55 years of marriage before his death on February 16, 2020.&nbsp;

Kathy is survived by:&nbsp; daughter, Tamara Chesney (Jason) of Nickerson; son, Emery Kittle, Jr. (Jena) of Olathe; stepdaughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Kittle-Martinez (Buddy) of McLouth, KS; brother, Lee Adams (Juanita) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Alan Roberts, Madelyn and Claire Chesney, Jackson, Elias, Allison, and Emma Kittle, Jessica Kittle (Brad Ayres) and Christopher Kittle; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; sister, Sonja Nielsen; and stepson, Ricky Dean Kittle.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Sterling Evangelical Bible Church, 3017 N. Barbara Ann Phillips, Hutchinson, passed from this world on January 28, 2023. Barbara was 74 years old. Barbara was born on February 23, 1948, at St. Anthony Hospital in Hays. She lived her childhood and early teens on a farm north of Gorham. Her parents, Wendelin “Nick” and Helen Brungardt welcomed Barbara as their fifth and youngest child.&nbsp;

Barbara graduated from Gorham High School and Fort Hays State University, where she earned her undergraduate degree and multiple post graduate degrees. Barbara loved learning and would have loved to have been a full-time student the entirety of her adult life. Barbara was a talented artist, decorator, and savvy shopper. Although burdened by debilitating pain the last two years of her life, she maintained a positive attitude. Barbara had a tremendous faith which sustained her through many difficult times in her life.&nbsp;

Barbara chose the field of education, where she was a teacher and counselor. Before retiring in 2017, Barbara served the role as elementary school counselor, a job where she believed she made the biggest impact in the lives of students. Barbara advocated for all students, especially those students who were the most difficult to reach. Somehow, she was able to gain their trust and move them in a positive direction. Seldom could she go anywhere in Hutchinson without a former student, parent, or colleague recognizing her.&nbsp;

Barbara was proceeded in death by her son: Travis; four siblings, Joyce, Donald, Gary, and Carolyn; and two nephews, Bryan and Bradley.&nbsp;

She is survived by several nephews and nieces. Barbara also had many friends who loved her too.

Cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time.

Tony was born on June 28, 1958 in Loudon, TN to parents James A. "John" and Helen E. (Jaynes) Clinton. Tony graduated from Loudon High School in 1976.

Tony married Jacki Eilene Koehn in Galveston, TX on July 05, 2018.

Tony worked as Pipeline Welder retiring in September 2020. He enjoyed cooking, woodworking, welding, and entertaining his friends and family.

Tony is survived by his spouse Jacki Eilene Clinton; his children Luke (Jessi) Koehn, Jake (Kim) Koehn, Shane (RaeAnn) Koehn, all of Canton, KS and Holly (Justin) Bacon of McPherson, KS; his father James "John" Clinton Sweetwater, TN; his brother Mark (Pam) Clinton Athens, TN; his sister, Angela Beth (Tommy "Corky") Jones Sweetwater, TN, and his sister-in-law, Carlene Clinton, Sweetwater, TN. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren, Mathew, Allie (Gus), Karma, Hali, Izzy, Gus, Edyn, Ainsley, Jace, Jack, Ryker, Case, Lane, and Rosalynn, and one great grandson, Aiden; along with a host of family and friends.

Donna Bernadine Schwertfeger, 90, passed away February 5, 2023, at her home.&nbsp; She was born July 4, 1932, in Pratt, KS, to Earl Vernon Rolf and Tressa (Gimpel) Rolf.

Donna was a 1950 graduate of Pratt High School, Pratt, KS.&nbsp; She also graduated from Goodland Technical Vocational School, Goodland, KS.

Donna was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, needlepoint, crafting, cooking, baking, and working in her flower garden.&nbsp; She was also involved in the making and the collecting of dolls. &nbsp;Donna was an avid golfer and was still playing golf at the age of 88.&nbsp; She was a member of the Carey Park Women’s Golf Association and she was the 9-Hole Club Champion in 1999, 2015, and 2017.&nbsp; Donna also served as the golf league’s 9-hole prize chairman for many years.&nbsp; She was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; Donna was active in the Circle 1 women’s group at the church.&nbsp; She served as the treasurer for the women’s group and was an active participant in the group’s service project of making quilts to be donated to various places and organizations.

On September 17, 1950, Donna married Alvin ‘Al’ Walter Schwertfeger, in Natrona, KS.&nbsp; They shared over 68 years of marriage, prior to his death on November 14, 2018.

Donna is survived by:&nbsp; her son, Galen (Belinda) Schwertfeger of Kalamazoo, MI; granddaughters, Arrianne Scott of Norman, OK, and Alexandra (Thomas) Howard of Kalamazoo, MI; great-grandchildren, Grant, Morgan, Paige, Grayson, Olivia, and Felicity Howard; brother, Vernon (Jayne) Rolf of Mesa, AZ; sister, Janet (Kerry) Cox of Pratt, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husband; and great-grandchildren, Riley, Aubrey, and Rose Howard.

Donna Bernadine Schwertfeger |1932-2023|

Robert (Bob) Leon Wilson, 91, went home to be with the Lord on February 6th, 2023 at the homestead of his daughter and grandchildren in Mexico NY. Bob was born March 26, 1931 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Thomas Edgar and Goldie Gladys (Keller) Wilson. He was a lifetime congregant, longtime Trustee, choir member and volunteer for First Church of the Nazarene. Bob enlisted in the US Navy in 1948 and upon his Honorable Discharge he was recognized for Good Conduct and Navy Occupation as well as Korean, China and United Nations Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #68. Bob married Emily Rozan Hendrickson in San Diego, California on May 10th, 1952 and reveled in marital bliss with his Bride for over 69 years. To this union was born four children.

Upon returning to Hutchinson following military service, Bob worked at Cessna for 36 years, ending his career as a Supervisor. In ‘retirement’ he ministered to the bereaved for over 21 years through his employment with Penwell-Gable Funeral Home. Additionally, Bob owned and operated a wench truck and tree service businesses. Bob played just as hard as he worked. The Wilsons enjoyed weekends and summer vacations of camping, water skiing, and fishing both locally and across various states, often with extended family. Bob and his wife were also avid antique and collectable hobbyists and trips always included stops at historical sites, shops, auctions and old barns. Bob relocated to NY following the death of his wife, surrounded by the love and activity of family and new friends. He quickly became a surrogate Dad and Papa to many and a favorite patient of his amazing care team. Bob spent his final days expressing gratitude, sharing stories, and singing his favorite songs.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sons, Robert L. Wilson Jr. and James W. Wilson; sister, Bertha Randalls; and brother, Thomas Wilson.

Bob is survived by his son, Mark Wilson of Hutchinson, KS; daughter, Christina Wilson of Mexico, NY; daughter-in-law Susan Wilson of Ozora, MO; brother LeRoy (Betty) Wilson of Denair, CA; nine grandchildren, Danielle (James) Wegener of Manitou Springs, CO; Jay (Talitha) Wilson of New Offenburg, MO; Thomas Wilson of Ketchikan, AK; Sarah (Brad) Vaeth of Ozora, MO; Benjamin Frasier of Brooklyn, NY; Nicholas Frasier of Broomfield, CO; Brandon Barker of Sapulpa, OK; Jacob Frasier of Niagara Falls, NY; Grace Frasier of Mexico NY; and four great-grandchildren, Sage Wegener; Jaiden Wilson; and Kynnadie Rose and Brooklyn Weibrecht.

Cremation has taken place through Harter Funeral Home in Mexico, NY. Family and friends will be greeted at First Church of the Nazarene, 4290 N. Monroe St., Hutchinson, KS 67502, from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 16th, 2023 with funeral services at 11:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow at Fairlawn Cemetery.  </figure>Robert (Bob) Leon Wilson, 91, went home to be with the Lord on February 6th, 2023 at the homestead of his daughter and grandchildren in Mexico NY. Bob was born March 26, 1931 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Thomas Edgar and Goldie Gladys (Keller) Wilson. He was a lifetime congregant, longtime Trustee, choir member and volunteer for First Church of the Nazarene. Bob enlisted in the US Navy in 1948 and upon his Honorable Discharge he was recognized for Good Conduct and Navy Occupation as well as Korean, China and United Nations Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #68. Bob married Emily Rozan Hendrickson in San Diego, California on May 10th, 1952 and reveled in marital bliss with his Bride for over 69 years. To this union was born four children.Upon returning to Hutchinson following military service, Bob worked at Cessna for 36 years, ending his career as a Supervisor. In ‘retirement’ he ministered to the bereaved for over 21 years through his employment with Penwell-Gable Funeral Home. Additionally, Bob owned and operated a wench truck and tree service businesses. Bob played just as hard as he worked. The Wilsons enjoyed weekends and summer vacations of camping, water skiing, and fishing both locally and across various states, often with extended family. Bob and his wife were also avid antique and collectable hobbyists and trips always included stops at historical sites, shops, auctions and old barns. Larry L. Stiggins, 82, passed away February 2, 2023, in Lubbock, TX.&nbsp; He was born July 7, 1940, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Norval W. and Beryl (Carson) Stiggins. Larry was a 1958 graduate of Sylvia Rural High School, a 1960 graduate of Hutchinson Junior College (Associate in Arts), a 1963 graduate of Abilene Christian College (Bachelor of Science in Education), and a 1985 graduate of The University of Texas at Tyler (Master of Technology).&nbsp; He also attended graduate school at Texas A&amp;M University.

He taught Industrial Technology and coached football, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and track over a span of 47 years in Kansas, New Mexico, and Texas.&nbsp; He also taught drivers education and refereed high school basketball for over 40 years.&nbsp; He was proud to call Texas home for over 50 years.&nbsp; His most cherished memories were made camping and fishing in the mountains with friends and family.

On December 30, 1965, he married Mary Kay Myers in Sylvia, KS.&nbsp; They shared over 46 years of marriage, prior to her death on October 26, 2012.

Larry is survived by: his children, Stephanie Stiggins and her nephew, Cameron Wood of Lubbock, TX, and Todd and Erin Stiggins and their children, Wyatt, Kaytlen, and Grady Stiggins of New Home, TX; and seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his wife; parents; sister, Jane (Stiggins) Colle; and brother, Kent Stiggins. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Sylvia Cemetery, Sylvia, KS, with Steve Sears officiating.&nbsp; Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2023, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
