Icel Lee (Richardson) Russell was born May 28, 1922 in the Ponca City Hospital in Oklahoma.&nbsp; Her mother had been in labor for 3 days when the hospital performed their very first C-Section.&nbsp; Eleven days later her mother died from complications.&nbsp; In the meantime she had written Icel Lee’s name on a piece of paper.&nbsp; (She was named after her grandmother.)

She was part of the “Greatest Generation” that lived through the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl and World War II.

She lived on her grandparents farm with her aunts and uncles, rode a horse to school--which was a one-room school that averaged 14 students, grades 1-8.&nbsp; At age 8 she was driving a grain truck to the grain elevator during harvest, which was 1 mile away from their home.&nbsp; She also drove daily 1½ miles to get drinking water using the family’s car.&nbsp; Everyone on the farm had to do their share of work.&nbsp; She preferred outside work rather than being inside.

When her grandparents died as a teenager, she moved to Perkins, Oklahoma to live with an aunt. There she met the love of her life, Clement W. Russell.&nbsp; They were married June 14, 1942.&nbsp; After 1 month of marriage Clem enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII.&nbsp; Icel Lee followed him around the United States while he trained to go overseas on December 31, 1944.&nbsp; He was eventually a crew chief for maintaining a B-29 on Tinian Island.&nbsp; He was on the military base when the Enola Gay took off for Hiroshima.

After the war Clem became an electrician and they moved to Valley Center in 1950.&nbsp; They joined the First United Methodist Church that year where she was active in the Children’s Dept.&nbsp; (Later in life she and Clem took many fun trips sponsored by their church.)

Icel Lee had gone to college one year at Oklahoma State and then finished her Elementary Education degree at Friends University.&nbsp; In 1957 she began teaching 3rd&nbsp;grade at Abilene Elementary School.&nbsp; She loved kids and had many fond memories of those years.&nbsp; Her retirement from teaching was in 1985.&nbsp; She had taught close to a thousand students.&nbsp; Several of her students stayed in touch with her through cards, letters and flowers to the day she died.

She made many life-long friends in Valley Center.&nbsp; She was the last remaining member of “Stitch and Chat”--which those ladies were very dear to her heart.&nbsp; She also was a leader in 4-H, a part of “Busy-Bees”, “Eastern Star”, “EHU”, and took part in many other events in the Valley Center community.

She and Clem had 2 daughters, Nila Sue and Wayne Spencer of Overland Park and Ralph and Linda Nutter of Valley Center.&nbsp; They had 5 grandchildren, Doug &amp; Karen Spencer of Overland Park, Pam &amp; Todd Reasoner of Maize, Greg &amp; Corinna Spencer of Rogers, AR, Robbie &amp; Gail Nutter of Manhattan and Ryan &amp; Camala Nutter of Maize.&nbsp; They had 13 great grandchildren that were dearly loved.

A memorial has been set up for either the Valley Center Methodist Church or Kansas State University Christian Challenge

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, April 6 and Service will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 7, both held at the First United Methodist Church, 560 N. Park, Valley Center, Kansas. Graveside service will follow at the Hope Cemetery, Arkansas City, Kansas.

John E. Groening, 55, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023, at his home in Hutchinson, KS. John was born December 10, 1967 in Hutchinson KS, the son of Merlin H. and Dora H. (Epp) Groening.

John graduated from Hutchinson High School. He enjoyed latch hook, adult coloring, playing video games and watching T.V. and movies. John worked for McDonalds as a dishwasher for over 20 years. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

John is survived by his brother, Barton (Ann) Groening; sisters, Deborah (Rob) Hoefer and Julie (Jerry) Mitchell; several nieces and nephews; and friends and staff at Disability Supports of the Great Plains and TECH.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.

A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 7, 2023 at First Southern Baptist Church, 1201 E. 23rd Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor Roy Jaye officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson. James Duane Hanke, 86, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2023.

He was born December 31, 1936, to Herman Hanke and Anna (Buller). He married Harriet Jean Baumgartner on January 12, 1957. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2005.

He worked in the lumber industry for many years before retiring as a quality inspector for Aucon, Ind.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing the lottery and occasionally visiting a casino. He loved attending grandkids school activities.

He attended Salem United Methodist Church. Survivors include: son, Jimmy Hanke (Cindy), son Gary Hanke and daughter Susan Dixon (Jason), 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son, David Hanke, a brother, Junior Hanke and a sister Frances Krueger.

A celebration of life will be April 12, 2023 from 11 AM to 12:30 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church. A private family burial will follow.

Mark Eugene Smith, 69, passed away April 2, 2023, at his home.&nbsp; He was born March 11, 1954, in Hutchinson, KS, to Albert Eugene Smith and JoAnne (St. Clair) Smith.

Mark was a graduate of Buhler High School, Buhler, KS.&nbsp; He worked at Mid-America Redi-Mix Inc., as a truck driver and mechanic.

On December 28, 1974, Mark married Debbie J. Gray in Haven, KS.&nbsp; They shared over 48 years of marriage.

He is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Debbie Smith of Pretty Prairie, KS; daughters, Angela Lawless of Hutchinson, KS, and Andrea Smyth of Pretty Prairie, KS; grandchildren, Kaiden Smyth, Braden Smyth, Chase Smyth, Lillian Lawless, and Shawn Lawless; siblings, Galen (Diane) Smith of Corpus Christi, TX, Galord Smith of St. Charles, MO, Joleen Smith of Hutchinson, KS, Doreen Hawkins of Buhler, KS, and Lance (Angie) Smith of Hutchinson, KS; sister-in-law, Shelley (Mark) Stephens of Hutchinson, KS; and brother-in-law, Les (Liz) Gray of Las Vegas, NV.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Bruce Smith.

Sheila Louise (Moyer) Ratzlaff, 65, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita, KS.

Sheila was born on January 12, 1958, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Donald Eugene Moyer and Mary Louise (Ballweg) Moyer.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School in May of 1976.

She was married to Joel Jay Ratzlaff on April 1, 1977, at the Church of the Nazarene in McPherson.&nbsp;

In 1995, Sheila was baptized while living in Spirit Lake, Idaho and attending Spirit Lake Baptist Church along with the rest of her family, husband Joel, and children, Bryce Ratzlaff and Nanci (Heath) Ratzlaff.

Sheila was a Certified Nurses Aid and also Certified Medical Aid.&nbsp; She worked in Hillsboro, Newton, and Goessel, KS.&nbsp; She also had successful house cleaning businesses in McPherson and Gypsum, KS.

She attended the Wheatland Baptist Church in McPherson.

Sheila loved gardening and inherited her green thumb from her father and enjoyed many hours of gardening.&nbsp;

From 2015 onward, she was a caregiving to her brother, father, and mother before their passing.&nbsp; She felt it was her calling in life to care for her family. Her family recalls the many amazing meals she had fixed over the years, including meatloaf and her Jell-O fluff.&nbsp; While her children were growing, the family moved around frequently.&nbsp; No matter where they were, Sheila always was able to make that place a home.

Her carpenter father built her a “staircase to Heaven” on her 46th&nbsp;wedding anniversary, April 1, 2023.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 46 years, Joel of the home; a son, Bryce Ratzlaff (Katie) of Halstead, KS; a daughter, Nanci Heath (Brian) of Goessel, KS; five grandchildren; Derek, Kelli, Braxton, Breckyn, &amp; Maddox; and many extended family and friends.&nbsp; She loved her kitty kids (two cats) of the home.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mark Moyer.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, April 7, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Empire Cemetery, Galva.

Bryce Eugene Davidson, 85, of Little River, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas.

Bryce was born in Allen, Kansas on April 16, 1937, a son of Eugene and Wilma (Karr) Davidson.

Bryce attended a one room school house in rural Allen, Kansas prior to attending Americus grades school and graduated from Americus High School, Americus,Kansas in 1954. He then attended Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree.

He was a Rifle Expert who served honorably in the United States Army.

Through the years Bryce worked, managing his own farm in Admire, Kansas which he loved and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

Bryce Davidson was united in marriage to Deloris M. Pederson on August 20, 1967 in Ottawa, Kansas. Delores died in 2012.

He is survived by his children, Sheri Ellwood and her husband Scott, of Little River, Kansas and Laurie Ellwood and her husband Dean Flanner; his siblings, Joyce Grimsley, of Americus, Kansas and Loyd Davidson and his wife Anne of Salina, Kansas; and his granddaughters, Tabitha and Kate Ellwood.

Memorial Service will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2023 at Andover Lutheran Church in Windom, Kansas with Reverend Anna Borders officiating.

Scattering of cremains will be at a later date.

Bryce Eugene Davidson |1937-2023|

Lena was born October 20, 1924 in Hulbert, OK, to Fritz and Clara Schubert. She married Harold Clark who preceded her in death in 1996. Lena passed from this life Sunday, April 2, 2023 in Newton, Kansas at the age of 98 years, 5 months and 13days.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton, Kansas.

She is survived by her sons Dwight (Hazel) Anderson, Bristow, OK, Ken (Linda) Clark, Augusta, KS and Carman (Cindi) Clark, Newton, KS. 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Lena was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters, Loye Cook, Lela Lively, Mary Ann Coombes and son Cary Clark.

Lena went to work for the Ammunition Plant in Pryor, OK during WWII.&nbsp; She also worked for BF Goodrich in Miami, OK.&nbsp; She moved to Kansas in early 1950’s and began working for Montgomery Ward.&nbsp; She worked in both Newton and Wichita stores until their closings at which time she retired. After retirement she babysit her grandchildren and was the family historian. She was able to remember vast amounts of family information, including shoe size.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery 1000 East First in Newton.

Lena passed from this life Sunday, April 2, 2023 in Newton, Kansas at the age of 98 years, 5 months and 13days.She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton, Kansas.She is survived by her sons Dwight (Hazel) Anderson, Bristow, OK, Ken (Linda) Clark, Augusta, KS and Carman (Cindi) Clark, Newton, KS. 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Lena was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters, Loye Cook, Lela Lively, Mary Ann Coombes and son Cary Clark.Lena went to work for the Ammunition Plant in Pryor, OK during WWII.&nbsp; She also worked for BF Goodrich in Miami, OK.&nbsp; She moved to Kansas in early 1950’s and began working for Montgomery Ward.&nbsp; She worked in both Newton and Wichita stores until their closings at which time she retired. After retirement she babysit her grandchildren and was the family historian. She was able to remember vast amounts of family information, including shoe size.Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery 1000 East First in Newton.

Loren Leo Morris, 60, passed away on April 1, 2023, in his home, surrounded by family. He was born on March 26, 1963, in Lexington, NE to Leo and Jerry (Smith) Morris.

Loren spent his childhood in Minden, NE. He moved to Kansas to attend college and met Pam Meadows at Faith Mennonite Church in South Hutchinson. They were married on March 7, 1987. Loren was a long-time employee of Hutchinson Community College, serving as the Chief Information Officer until his retirement in 2022.

He enjoyed all outdoor activities including volleyball, hunting, and spending time in “Grandpa’s Woods” with his grandchildren. Loren also enjoyed working on home renovation projects, completing numerous jobs with the help of his sons-in-law. He loved spending time with his family and friends, sharing his wisdom and love of Christ.

Loren is survived by: his wife of 36 years, Pam Morris, Hutchinson; their daughters, Randi Wise and husband, Tyler, Sterling; Robin Slabach and husband, Kendal, Hesston; four grandchildren, Levi (6), Cassidy (3), Jayden (2), and Ellie (2 months); father, Leo Morris, Murdock; brother, Kerry Morris and wife, Judy, Murdock; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Loren will be greatly missed by many.

Loren was preceded in death by: his mother, Jerry Morris; his in-laws, Charles and Gladys Meadows; and several aunts and uncles.

Following a private family burial, a celebration of Loren’s life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Journey Mennonite at South Hutchinson with Pastor Joshua Haver officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary or with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Journey Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson.

Lewis “LD” Daniel Ensminger, 85, died March 31, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born April 30, 1937, in Bushong, KS, to Oscar Daniel and Clara DeLilah (Carpenter) Ensminger.

Kim was born on August 21, 1967, in El Dorado, KS, the daughter of Ronald Lee and Cynthia Ann (Kail) Stockham.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School in 1986.&nbsp;

During her working years, Kim did in-home care for the elderly.&nbsp;

Survivors include: two brothers, Kevin Stockham and wife, Tammie, of McPherson, KS and Kelly Stockham and wife, Carrie, of McPherson, KS; uncles &amp; aunts, Steve &amp; Jeanne Kail of McPherson, KS, Quentin &amp; Cathy Stockham of Ash Grove, MO and Darrel &amp; Cheryl Stockham of Bennington, KS; longtime and dear friend, Freeda Gilroy; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is predeceased by his mother, grandparents and grandson, Brett Cushenbery, who had a very special place in his heart and son-in-law, Larry Cushenbery. He is survived by his wife, Wanda West; children: Debra Allison (Greg), Gene Jr (Lori), Yvonne Cushenbery, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Eugene was a Wichita Fire Fighter for 21 years and he worked several other jobs on his days off from the fire department. He was the manager for Wilbert Burial Vault Company after he retired and then went to work at Doric Vault in Newton, Kansas.

Eugene enjoyed most outdoor sports, fishing and hunting were a passion. He lived a good long life and especially enjoyed his family.

Kevin was born on December 13, 1962, in Columbia, MO, the son of Ralph Eugene and Donna Sue (Byrd) Bruner.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School in 1981.&nbsp; Kevin was united in marriage to Patricia Jean Wright on March 31, 2002.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Aubrey and Kevin, Jr.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Patricia “Trish” of the home; two sons, Aubrey Bruner of Atlanta, GA and Kevin Bruner, Jr. (Sally Tran) of Manhattan, KS; a brother, Clinton Bruner (Dara) of Wichita, KS; sister-in-law, Kimberly Bruner of McPherson, KS; aunt, Mae Bruner of Fulton, MO; uncle, James “Peanut” Byrd of McPherson, KS; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Kevin Lee Bruner, Sr. |1962-2023|

David Dean Nuese passed 2/23/23 at Pleasant View Home, in the care of Traditions Hospice. He was 77 years 11 months and 27 days old. He was born on March 1, 1945, in Lawton, OK to Lourdes and Florence (Cooper) Nuese. He grew up in Marshall, MN, with his three younger siblings. He loved working on his grandparents’ farm in Walnut Grove, MN. He attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School and graduated in 1963. When the Vietnam Conflict began, and the draft too, he decided he would rather choose where he was going to serve than be told. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in September of 1965. He had basic training at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma before being deployed to Okinawa, Japan, where he did maintenance on airplanes. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Upon returning to the states, he went to OK, and when he returned back to MN, he returned with two appaloosas. He and his two brothers started Triple D Appaloosa. They raised and showed horses, his favorite was RB (Running Beat) which won many awards and trophies. He also started working for the Schwans Food Company in the ice cream plant, until there was a massive fire that destroyed it. He then went to Fort Dodge, IA to assist Schwans and continue making their ice cream. He also filled in for the route drivers. After the ice cream plant was rebuilt, he went back to Marshall, and was promoted to be the supervisor in the distribution freezer. He was united in marriage to Patsy Jean Plett of Inman, KS on November 11, 1977, at Inman Mennonite Church in Inman, KS. They were married for 45 happy years. After they were married, he both farmed, and worked for the Schwan’s Food Company. Alas, two full-time jobs were too much for the young family, and he had to give up farming, his true passion. He would continue to use vacation time to help his uncles with harvest by Walnut Grove, MN for many years. He continued to work at Schwans for 38 years before retiring in 2007. He was well respected by everyone he worked with and supervised. He was also a part of the founding group of people who started Marshall Area Christian School, now True Light Christian School in Marshall, MN. He was the person who made the bucket chairs for the school. He was an active member at Agape Fellowship in Marshall, MN as a deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 0024. He enjoyed working, farming, woodworking, gardening, fishing, hunting, guns, playing cards, trains, antiquing, especially collecting Tonka toys, driving his Harley Davidson, and spending time with his family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and would talk to anyone who would take the time to listen. He is survived by his wife Patsy Nuese of Inman, his children Nichole and Keith Rasmussen of Inman, and Lance Nuese of Marshall, MN; four grandchildren Dominic Nuese-Rasmussen, Alexina Rasmussen, and Xavier Rasmussen, of Inman, KS, and Willow Russ of Marshall, MN; his sister Kathy (Hank) Moore, Doylestown, PA, his brother Dennis (Peggy) Nuese, of Marshall, MN, and Duane (MaryAnn) Nuese, of Montevideo, MN, and many nieces and nephew, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his beloved Aunt Ruby, many aunts, and uncles.

Nancy Sue Bell, 65, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 3:35 p.m., Thursday, March 30, 2023 at her home, surrounded by family and friends. Nancy was born in McPherson, KS on December 12, 1957, a daughter of Dean Dutton and Florence I. (McCaffree) Krell. Nancy attended Washington grade school, McPherson, Ks., Northridge grade school, Newton, Ks., Park School, McPherson, Ks., Sante Fe Jr. High School, Newton, Kansas and graduated from Newton High School, Newton, KS in 1975. She then attended Central Christian College, McPherson, KS and received her Bachelors Degree in Nursing at Tri County Nursing College, Salina, KS. Nancy was a member of the First Christian Church in McPherson. Through the years Nancy worked as a nurse for the Cedars, Dr. Larzlere Office, McPherson Hospital, was owner of Curves For Women and worked at Walmart Pharmacy, McPherson, KS until she retired in 2022. Nancy enjoyed laughing, dancing, and having fun, garage selling, loved helping people, had the heart of a nurse and loved spending time with her friends and family. Nancy Sue Krell was united in marriage to Martin Bell on July 23, 1998 in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple established their first home together in McPherson. She is survived by her husband Martin Bell, of McPherson, Kansas; her children, Tracy Morgan and her husband Danny, of Canton, Kansas, Daniel Perkins, of McPherson, Kansas, Lyndon Bell, of McPherson, Kansas, Lucas Bell, of Yonkers, New York and LeShell Carter and her husband Ben, of Queensland, Australia; her siblings, David Krell and his wife Sherry, of Denver, Colorado, Linda Haythorne, of Brenham, Texas. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Austin, Alex, Alexa, Emilee, Skyler, Aaliyah, Jenna, Natalee and Cora; 4 great grandchildren, Brynlee, Ava, Lyla, Xavier with a baby girl on the way. Kenneth "Short" Goebel passed away on March 27, 2023. He was born on September 18, 1927, to Jake and Dorothy (Berry) Goebel.

At the age of 15, Short was a ranch hand for over 25 years on the Merrill Ranch in Comanche County.He later entered the U.S. Army and was an expert rifleman honorably discharged after his service.Short and Neomia were avid gardeners and canned most of the vegetables they grew.&nbsp; He also loved hunting, fishing and coyote hunting with his many greyhounds. 

He worked for years later at the Isabel Coop and retired in Isabel where they bought a home with land and still did gardening.&nbsp; Short and Neomia are members of the First Christian Church in Medicine Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nettie Lee; son, Terry; and brother, Billy. Survivors include his wife, Neomia; son, Ken; and two daughters, Dottie and Betty (William); sister, Betty Mae; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and an overwhelming number of friends and acquaintances.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the First Christian Church, 300 S. Main, Medicine Lodge, Kansas.

Gary "Charlie" Dale Brown, 70, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born on September 11, 1952 in Herington to Clarence Dale and Betty (Ruppel) Brown. Gary married Deanna Sue Dix-Brown on October 6, 2001 in Pratt. They were married for 21 years. Charlie graduated from Herington High School in 1970 and was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge, Brotherhood of Maintenance and Way Employees Division (BMWED) and American Railway and Airway Supervisor Association (ARASA). He worked for Union Pacific Railroad and retired as a track inspector after 42 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, mowing the yard, washing cars, and spending time with friends and family. Charlie never met a stranger! He is survived by his wife, Dea; son, Tyler (Leslee) Brown of Wichita; daughters, Amy Brown of Wichita and Kylee (Charlie) Bacon of Andover; sisters, Gaylene Staatz of Herington and Glenda Payne of Abilene; brother, Jerry Brown of Marysville; and grandchildren, Lauren and Ty Brown and Jackson and Hudson Bacon. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Shawn Brown. Cremation has taken place. Don D. Tatro, 93, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Hutchinson, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at The Cedars, McPherson.&nbsp;

Don was born on April 10, 1929, in Cherokee, OK, the son of LeRoy “Lee” Ottowa Tatro and Dora Edith (Hale) Tatro.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;He attended Washington Grade School and graduated from Alva High School in Alva, OK.&nbsp; On June 6, 1948, Don was united in marriage to Cleta E. Richardson in Alva, OK.&nbsp;

Don was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952.&nbsp; He served in the 45th&nbsp;Infantry Division and was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal.

While living in Oklahoma, Don worked for Shalloup Packing Company for five years and Carmen Locker &amp; Ice Plant for three years.&nbsp; While living in Pratt, KS, Don worked for Cudahy Packing Company in sales and management for 20 years. In 1980, he and Cleta purchased the Zip Trip Convenience Store until 1987 and sold to the Bridgman Oil Company.&nbsp; In 1988, they purchased a liquor store, known as Tatro Liquor, in Pratt.&nbsp; They sold the store in 1994, retired, and moved back to Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp;

Don enjoyed bowling, golf, old cars, hunting with his four sons and brother, Robert “Bob”, who passed away in 2003.

Survivors include his loving wife of 74 years, Cleta; four sons, Thomas Tatro and wife, Marla, of Broken Arrow, OK, Terry Tatro and wife, Pat, of Issaquah, WA, Bob Tatro and wife, Becky, of McPherson, KS, and Gary Tatro and wife, Jo, of Cheney, KS; ten grandchildren, Ethan Tatro, Anna Tatro, Tammi Kirkpatrick, Kyle Tatro, Meghann Sterling, Chelsea Thul, Audrey Reese, Jessica Gillette, Zac Tatro, and Breanna Tatro; two step-granddaughters, Monica and Morgan; 22 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Bonnie Tatro.

Robert L. Joy, 79, of Ellinwood, Kansas, passed away March 28, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. 

He was born April 13, 1943, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Eldo Oliver and Lucille Marie Garver Joy. 

Robert has resided in Ellinwood since 2005, formerly of Great Bend and Garden City, Kansas. He graduated from Garden City High School, with the class of 1961. Robert attended Garden City Community College and received his master’s degree in art from Ft Hays State University. 

He was an artist, art teacher at Roosevelt Jr. High School, and Graphic Artist at Golden Belt Printing in Great Bend. Robert served in the United States Army in Vietnam in the late 1960s. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, Botanica, Wichita, and the Wichita Art Museum. 

Robert was an artist in residence at the Shafer Art Gallery in Great Bend, and displayed his art work at numerous art galleries in the area. He also was a dancer. Robert married Loretta Monteleone. They later divorced. 

On May 7, 2005, Robert was united in marriage with Marcella Birzer in Ellinwood. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his two daughters, Lisa Joy and (Chad Perrin) of Loveland, CO, and Allison Joy of Lincoln, NE; and nieces and nephews. 

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Allen Joy; and sister, Lois Bush. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 1, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Burial will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Ellinwood with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M., Friday, March 31, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with family present. A Vigil service will be held at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Memorials may be given to the Shafer Art Gallery in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.

Robert Lawrence Joy |1943-2023|

Sarah Jane Prebble, 73, of Hutchinson, Kansas passed away with her family by her side on March 27, 2023 at home in Hutchinson, Kansas. 

The daughter of Elwyn and Elvira Alexander, she was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin on February 6, 1950.

She loved all animals, never knew a stranger and worked for nearly 30 years at the former Yoder Cafe and the Carriage Crossing Restaurant in Yoder, Kansas, retiring in 2023. 

She was also a member of the Salt City Cowboy Church in South Hutchinson, Kansas.

She spent more than 29 years with her partner, Lawrence (Larry) E. Prebble. They were married on June 22, 2007. He passed away on June 7, 2019.

She is survived by her daughter, Angie Crawford of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; brother, Jimmy Alexander (Theresa) of Malin, Oregon; sisters, Connie Steele of Hutchinson, Kansas, Marie Partington (Howard) of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Goldie Goodwin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Ronald Alexander; sisters, Carolyn Young and Geraldine Joyce Alexander; a sister-in-law, Alice Alexander; and a niece, Nacole Bell.

Cremation has taken place and she will be inurned alongside her husband at Sterling Cemetery in Sterling, Kansas. The Inurnment and Memorial Service, officiated by Pastor Montie McFerrin of Salt City Cowboy Church, will be held on Saturday, May 6th at 10:00 a.m. at the cemetery.

There will be a luncheon immediately following at the Salt City Cowboy Church, 810 North Main Street in South Hutchinson, Kansas. There will also be a Celebration of Life and meal held on Sunday, May 7th at 1:00 p.m. at the Carriage Crossing Restaurant, 10002 South Yoder Road in Yoder, Kansas.

Sidney Stephen Landwehr, (77) passed away Sunday, March 26th, 2023 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born in Hardtner, Kansas to Martin Joseph Landwehr and Florence Mae (Carriker) Landwehr. He was a lifelong resident of Wichita and Goddard, Kansas. He graduated from West High School in Wichita. He was a partner at Hartley’s Iron for a decade and was self-employed at S.L. MFG until his retirement.

His hobbies were race cars, motorcycles, hunting and fishing. In his later years, he was president of the Salt Plains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Martin A. Landwehr, Edmond Lee Landwehr and sister Rose Z. Moran.

Sidney Stephen Landwehr, (77) passed away Sunday, March 26th, 2023 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born in Hardtner, Kansas to Martin Joseph Landwehr and Florence Mae (Carriker) Landwehr. He was a lifelong resident of Wichita and Goddard, Kansas. He graduated from West High School in Wichita. He was a partner at Hartley’s Iron for a decade and was self-employed at S.L. MFG until his retirement.His hobbies were race cars, motorcycles, hunting and fishing. In his later years, he was president of the Salt Plains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma.He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Martin A. Landwehr, Edmond Lee Landwehr and sister Rose Z. Moran.Sidney is survived by his wife Rita Landwehr and sons Sidney B. Landwehr, Stephen B. Landwehr and Joseph L. Kathy June Zahn was born April 4, 1957 in Hutchinson, KS to Pete and Velma (Schwartz) Smith. She passed away on March 27, 2023 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was 65.

On August 30, 1975, she married Steven Zahn in Hutchinson, KS. To this union, they had a daughter, Tami L. Zahn. Kathy worked as a secretary for Cheney Door Co. for 30 years before retiring. She enjoyed sweet Adelines, singing in her quartette, camping and cooking with her family. She took courses and was a master at knitting and crocheting in Reno County. She gave lessons to others from an early age. Kathy enjoyed entering her master pieces in the Kansas State Fair. She also enjoyed playing cards once a month for 42 years with her ladies. She will be missed dearly by all her family and friends.

Kathy is preceded by her parents and a sister, Verda Simon.

She is survived by her husband, Steven; her daughter, Tami; a sister, Carol (Martin) Pfister; and her three grandchildren, Dylan (Kimee), Dalton, and Danae.

Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter and can be sent in care of the funeral home.

Darrell Keith Ediger, 79, of Sterling, died March 28, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born October 23, 1943, in Hutchinson, to Henry and Minnie (Peters) Ediger.

Darrell graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1961 and attended Hutchinson Community College. He started working as a carpet apprentice for Wiley’s in 1961, then became a partner in Earl Smith &amp; Co., and then in 1993 started his own business, Ediger Enterprises.

Darrell was a master nationally certified flooring installer who took care of customers ranging from residential to commercial and even the U.S. government. He installed the flooring in Air Force One, the unique custom-made flooring in the Cosmosphere, the hand-sewn carpeting in the Fox Theater, and the flooring in the Crystal Ballroom at the Burt. Darrell also enjoyed teaching people about his craft and taught many others how to install flooring. He also enjoyed woodworking and tinkering on his farm near Sterling.

On October 23, 1978, Darrell married Nadine M. Fitzpatrick, in Newkirk, Oklahoma. She survives.

Also surviving are: his daughters, Terri Ediger (Steve), Jodi Danler (Mike), Leigh Chunn, Amy Sill (Mike); 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Cliff, Gale, and Wes Ediger; and many extended family members.

Darrell requested that his body be cremated and no services be held. Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, he suggested that donations be made to Cause for Paws, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Melvin ‘Mel’ Eugene Gough, 95, passed away March 25, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; He was born November 7, 1927, in Erie, KS, to Arthur Festus Gough and Opal Jane (Killian) Gough.

Mel served in the United States Air Force from December 1945 to December 1948.&nbsp; He was a lifelong truck driver.&nbsp; Mel drove for Eaton Metal Products, currently J&amp;J Drainage, and then retired from Dillon Stores Inc.&nbsp; He was a member of the Teamsters Union, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, and the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church.

On April 5, 1952, Mel married Geraldine ‘Gerry’ Faye Breidenstein, in Arlington, KS.&nbsp; They shared almost 71 years of marriage.

He is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Geraldine Gough of Hutchinson, KS; sons, Rodney (Patty) Gough of Wichita, KS, and Randy Gough of Winfield, KS; grandchildren, Billy Douglas, Rachel (Loren) Keeton, Ashley Barton, and Corey Gough; eight great-grandchildren; and siblings, Buford (Patsy) Gough of Cisco, TX, Neva (Dale) Martin of Ulysses, KS, and Gary (Linda) Gough of Abbyville, KS.

Mel was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents; daughter, Rene Faye Short; and brothers, Harold Gough and Kenneth Gough.
