Cynthia P. Kelley, 60, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023 in Hutchinson, KS. She was born October 21, 1962, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Leroy and Sarah (Dickenson) Marshall.

Cynthia loved her church and the lord. She also enjoyed playing the piano and listening to music in her spare time. She attended Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Cynthia is survived by her cousin, Norma Hill; aunt, Claudia Hawthorne, and a host of other family and friends.

A Celebration of Cynthia’s life will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2023 at New Resurrection Church, 1500 Forrest St. Hutchinson, KS. Hutchinson Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth T. Barker, born in Topeka on July 18, 1935, passed away February 21, 2023 at Hospice House in Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was the third daughter of Dr. Floyd and Florence (Fink) Taggart.

Ruth grew up in Topeka, graduated from Topeka High School in 1953 and went on to attend Kansas University in 1957 earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.&nbsp; In the summer of 1956 Ruth traveled to Europe and Morocco with KU as part of a USO show called the “Jayhawker Jamboree” entertaining 26,000 military men and women. While at KU Ruth was also a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

In 1957 Ruth married P.K. Worley.&nbsp; Together they had two children, Brenda and Tag Worley. They resided in Ottawa for seven years before moving back to Topeka in 1964.&nbsp; Ruth taught physical education at Washburn University from 1964 to 1977.&nbsp; The Worley marriage ended in 1977, and Ruth moved to Wichita where she was employed with Southwestern Bell.&nbsp; In 1981 she returned to Topeka to become director of Health and Safety services for the American Red Cross.

In the summer of 1983, Ruth met Bob W. Barker, and they were married on December 28, 1983.&nbsp; Bob and Ruth purchased Leech Products Inc. in Hutchinson in 1983, operating it until 2017.&nbsp; Together Ruth and Bob survived the 1991 tornado that devastated their Willowbrook home and community.&nbsp; Bob and Ruth enjoyed traveling together in their RV, going on boat cruises, and a highpoint being a safari in Africa with Topeka Zoo director Gary Clark.&nbsp; Their unique travel experiences ended with a trip to the Holy Land.

Ruth was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, singing in the Chancel Choir and serving on the Board of Trustees. She was Pi Beta Phi alumni, 60-year member of P.E.O. Chapter EP in Topeka and P.E.O. Chapter CM in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Ruth served on the Hutchinson Town Club, Symphony, and Zoo boards.&nbsp; In addition, she volunteered for the American Red Cross, Willowbrook Council, Kansas Children’s Service League, Kansas Native Sons and Daughters, and P.E.O. Home Board, Sunflower Grants.&nbsp; In her spare time, she enjoyed golf, tennis, and became a watercolor artist later in life.

Ruth is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Bob W. Barker of Hutchinson; sons, Paul “Tag” Worley (Alann) of Parker, CO and Brice W. Barker (Carol) of Hutchinson; daughter, Dana M. Tilley, Detroit, MI; sisters, Nancy Simpson of Denver, CO and Mary Holderman of Hutchinson; son-in-law, Jim Billings, Denver, CO; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Brenda Worley Billings; son-in-law, Jim Tilley; brothers-in-law, Dr. Wallace Holderman and Dr. Ken Simpson; great-granddaughter, Addy Rae Barker; and former husband, P.K. Worley.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023 at Trinity United Methodist Church 1602 N. Main Street, Hutchinson, with the Reverends Michael Tomson-DeGreeff and Kim Biery officiating.&nbsp; Private family inurnment will take place in the church columbarium.&nbsp; Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp;&nbsp; The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday March 2 at Elliott Mortuary.

Andrew J. Storer, 43, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center. He was born June 16, 1979 in Moundridge, the son of James M. and Anna M. (Oltmanns) Storer.

He graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 1999, where he was active with the Future Farmers of America.

Andrew worked for the family business, Companion Industries, in Moundridge.

He was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Christian, where in 2007 he traveled to Honduras for mission work. Andrew was a member of Better Farms 4-H group in Moundridge.

Andrew is survived by his mother, Anna Storer of the home; five siblings, Roberta Hickman of Newton, Leslie Schrag (Tony) of Moundridge, Patricia Gray (Bruce) of McPherson, Melaney Dick (Russell) of Buhler, and Douglas Storer (Kim) of Burrton; thirteen nieces and nephews, Aaron (Stacy) Beyer, Christopher (Stacey) Beyer, Matthew (Heidi) Beyer, Melissa Beyer (Nick Cotter), Todd (Shelby) Beyer, Jake (Molly) Schrag, Lisa Schrag (Justin), Megan Gray (Tiff), Collin Gray (Tara Brown), Nate Dick, Ethan Dick, JD Storer and Josie Storer; and nine great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Storer; grandparents, Henry and Daisy Oltmanns, and Melvin and Hazel Storer; and great-grandmother, Lena Henderson.

Albert Morris Sebastian, 60, died February 22, 2023, with his family by his side at his home, in Hutchinson. He was born March 4, 1962, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Barbara Ann Deal.

Albert graduated from Del City High School, Del City, OK, in 1980. After high school, he served in the United States Navy.

Albert loved golfing, taking cruises, and doing any type of work in the yard. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys.

On November 13, 1990, he married Margaret Eleanor Whyatt, in Norman, OK. They shared 32 years of marriage.

Albert is survived by: his wife, Margaret Sebastian of Hutchinson; daughters, Elizabeth Nell (David) Ledeboer, Samantha Nicole (David) Johnson, Natalie Brooke (Logan) Ahrens, Morgan Noelle Sebastian all of Hutchinson, and Jennifer (Josh) Geren of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Liam, Quinn, Drake, Logan, Aria, Kairi, Keegan, Nash, Judah, and Jovie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Kenneth "Bucket" Theis, 82, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at his home. He was born on October 14, 1940 in St. Leo to Frank and Rose (Schwartz) Theis. Kenneth married Bonnie (Schwertfeger) Theis on November 22, 1967. She preceded him in death on March 11, 1983. He then married Charlotte (Welch) Theis on March 3, 1984.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on September 5, 2018.

Kenneth graduated from Nashville High School. He served in the United States Army. He worked as a Barber, Caterer and Postal Clerk. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, BPOE Elks, American Legion, VFW, Moose Lodge and Realtor Association. He enjoyed baseball, card tricks, jokes, singing with his brothers and spending time with people especially his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Jim (Amy) Theis of Hutchinson, Molly Morgan of Cunningham and Rusty (Lyndel) Theis of Pratt; siblings, Jody Meyer of Goddard, Sandy (Gene) Mertens of Garden Plain, Sam (Jeanne) Theis of Cunningham, Sally (Don) Fischer of Kingman and Phil (Gloria) Theis of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jerod, Brooke, Travis, Kami and Jaycie Theis, Kendra, Kory and Kyra Morgan; and great-granddaughter, Ella Jean Morgan; step-children, Clay Truitt, Rodney (Karen) Truitt, Mitch (Kaydene) Truitt and Angela (Mike) Bradshaw; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wilbur Voth, 90, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Mercy Hospital. He was born October 5, 1932 in Moundridge, the son of John D. and Linda (Graber) Voth.

Wilbur graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 1951. He served in 1-W service following high school in Denver for two years.

He was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Christian.

Wilbur had his private pilot’s license and was a member of the Flying Farmers of America, and the Moundridge Flying Club and McPherson Flying Club.

Wilbur was united in marriage to Hazel Mae Heil on June 17, 1956 at Lind, Washington. She survives of the home.

He is also survived by his daughter, Eileen Voth of Mill Creek, WA; son, Michael Voth (Jana) of Wichita; granddaughter, Brittany Bartel (Bret) of El Dorado; grandson, Jordan Voth (Jennifer Weiman) of Kansas City, MO; great-granddaughter, Brooke Bartel of El Dorado; three sisters, Evelyn Penner of Whitewater, Waneta Goering (Eugene) of Moundridge, and Lois Hunsicker (Lee) of Telford, PA; seven brothers, Curt Voth of Charleston, WV, Karl Voth (Luanna) of Hesston, Larry Voth (Terry) of Boyertown, PA, Harry Voth (Cathy) of Loveland, CO, Myron Voth of Hesston, Stanley Voth of Hesston, and Verne Voth (Janet) of Hesston.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Kaiser and Alta Johnson; and two brothers, Glenn Voth and James Voth.

Hartington, Nebraska, died on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the Arbor Care
 Center in Hartington.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 
10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. 
Owen Korte officiating.&nbsp; Traditional visitation will be on Monday, at 
church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation 
will continue on Tuesday morning one hour prior to services.&nbsp; Cremation 
will occur after the mass and burial of his cremated remains will be at 
St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Fordyce, NE at a later date.&nbsp;

Gerald Francis was born on May 3, 1933, in Fordyce, Nebraska, to Edmund
 Ludwig and Gertrude Alma (Kathol) Hochstein.&nbsp; He grew up in Fordyce, NE
 and attended school in Fordyce until the 10th grade.&nbsp; He 
graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1950.&nbsp; After high school, 
Jerry began farming with his dad and then married Joan Marie Schwartz on
 April 12, 1955, in Hartington. In 1958, he began farming south of 
Pleasant Valley, NE which is the home place. He raised livestock and 
grain.&nbsp; Jerry and Joan lived on the farm until moving into Hartington in
 2004. Farming was always the love of Jerry’s life and continued to be 
active in the farming operation even after moving into town.

Jerry was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the 4th
 Degree Knights, National Cattleman’s Association, National Corn Growers
 Association, and the American Soybean Association. Jerry loved to bowl 
and was a member of the 800 Series Club with an 807 series in 1998.&nbsp; He 
was a Pioneer and Dekalb Seed Corn salesman.&nbsp; He received the 
Outstanding Young Farmer award on December 8, 1959.&nbsp; He was involved in 
4-H his entire life.&nbsp; Formerly played baseball and softball until he was
 56 years old.&nbsp; Jerry golfed and was a member of the Hole-in-One Club 
having had two holes-in-one.&nbsp; He was a former Hartington Golf 
Invitational Champion.&nbsp; Jerry and Joan loved to travel and several of 
their trips were to Australia and New Zealand and numerous other 
locations. He was always ready to come back to the farm sooner than 
later.

Gerald is survived by his wife Joan of Hartington; five children Pam 
Howell of Hartington, Frank (Andrea) Hochstein of Hartington, Brad 
Hochstein (Katie VanBuren) of Hutchinson, KS, Deb (Mark) Sitzman of

Gerald 'Jerry' F. Hochstein (1933-2023)

James “Jim” Lewis Dunn was born in McPherson on Dec. 3, 1941, to Jasper and Linda (Ewy) Dunn. The family moved to a farm near Arlington. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, James and Kenneth. After his mother’s tragic death to cancer in 1946, Jasper married Hazel Edwards in 1948. They had three children together, Donald, Kathy, and Linda (who also died of cancer at age 8).

Throughout his adult life, Jim had two callings. He was both a pastor and a farmer. He graduated from Arlington (KS) High School in 1959. He attended Bethel College in North Newton for two years, studying Industrial Arts, and Bible and Religion. As Jim tells the story, one day the local African Methodist Episcopal Church called a student church leadership club. They said they wanted a preacher for that Sunday. The rest of the students begged off. When the church leader that morning introduced Jim, he said: “This is our new preacher.” Jim didn’t say no, so his single Sunday preaching gig became a two-year unintentional intercultural ministry internship. He had always loved farming and ranching, too, and thought that’s what he would do with his life, so he transferred to Kansas State University, intending to get an agriculture degree. After one year, he returned to Bethel and graduated in 1963.

While at Bethel College, he met a lovely young musician, Ann Suderman. He told her if they would marry, she’d be a farmer’s wife. But he also continued to love preaching and the church. He wondered if God was calling him to ministry, so he enrolled in Mennonite Biblical Seminary (today called Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary), Elkhart, Indiana. Whether he would be a farmer or a minister, they didn’t know, but they married on Aug. 4, 1964, after Ann graduated college. Their marriage was blessed with two beloved sons, the oldest, Michael James, biological and the youngest, Jeffrey Lewis, adopted.

For several years after he graduated from seminary, he focused on ministry. His first full-time pastorate was in Carlock, Illinois, from 1967 to 1970. The family moved to Champaign, Illinois, where he pastored First Mennonite Church on the campus of the University of Illinois 1970-1980. Michael noted, “He was always a farmer at heart, though. Our home in Champaign was a corner lot. He dug up all the grass and planted corn and other vegetables in the front and side yards.” In 1980, Jim and his family moved to Newton. He worked at the denominational office for six years, then became campus pastor at Bethel College for three years. Even as he loved the church, he never lost his love of farming. 

In 1987, Jim and Ann bought a small farm on the outskirts of Hesston. On the small property he raised cattle, as well as wheat. His next ministry call was as lead pastor at First Mennonite Church, Newton 1989-92.

While there he increased his cattle herd. Ultimately, he ran cattle in four counties, all while pastoring a large congregation. When asked what he did for fun, he’d say, “Work the land. Raise cattle.”

Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in Goessel called him to be pastor from 1998-2004. Burrton Mennonite Church was his final call in 2004-2015. He retired from ministry when the congregation closed.

He continued farming and ranching until 2019 when Jim and Ann sold their beloved farm to move to Schowalter Villa.

Jim got a rare cancer diagnosis in late July 2022. The God who loved him called Jim to become part of the “great cloud of witnesses” on Feb. 13, 2023.

He is preceded in death by Jasper and Linda Dunn, sister Linda Dunn, Hazel Dunn, and son Jeff. 

He is lovingly remembered by Ann, Michael and Kathy Neufeld Dunn. His siblings, Kenneth Dunn and family: Eva Gordon (Doug) — children Ben, Jade, Jeffrey; Elsbeth Noga (Tom) — children Christina and Stephen; Adam Dunn, Soren Dunn, and Clement Dunn. Dr. Donald Dunn (Janice) and family: David Dunn (Jen) and Ellie; Jared Dunn. Kathy Dunn and family: Michael Dunn (Patricia) — Kristen, Harley, Janelle; Daren Dunn; Calen Dunn (Jaysalyn) — children Vincent and Alaina. Grandchildren Jordan and Tanner Dunn, and great grandson Taybor, as well as many friends and colleagues.

Jason ‘Jay’ Charles Faris, 28, died February 14, 2023, at his residence in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; He was born January 8, 1995, in Lyons, KS, to Jason James Faris and Jacqueline (McCutcheon) Faris.

Jay graduated from Hutchinson High School in 2015.&nbsp; After graduation, he moved to Wichita, KS, where he attended church because he had a tremendous faith in God.

Jay was a loving and devoted father, son, brother, and friend.&nbsp; He was an outgoing person who made friends very easily and he never knew a stranger.&nbsp; Anyone who met Jay would say that he was a wholehearted and respectful young man.&nbsp; Even though he had some struggles, he was a good person and a kind soul.

Jay is survived by:&nbsp; his mother, Jacqueline Faris of Hutchinson, KS; sister, Sarah Faris of Hutchinson, KS; daughter, Charlie Armentrout of South Dakota; and uncle, Charles McCutcheon of McPherson, KS.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jason James Faris.

(Huckleberry) Vincent. On September 9, 1957, she married Charles D. German in Meade, KS. Kay worked for Winchester Packing and retired in 1983 after 15 years. Kay enjoyed spending her time outdoors and gardening. She also enjoyed crafting. Her main hobby was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; two sisters, Carol Kohart and Judy Vincent; and one brother, Dusty Vincent. Kay is survived by her daughter, Roxie (Mark) Douglas; two grandchildren, Brent (Lydia) Douglas and Michelle (Jim) Miller; two great grandchildren, Blaine Charles Douglas and James Miller; three brothers, Charles (Dee) Vincent, Rex Vincent, and Ronnie (Jodie) Vincent; two sisters, Wendy (Ron) Banta and Cindy (George) Patton and a sister-in-law, Margaret (Bill) Carithers. Jill Renee Hiebert, 50, died Feb. 17, 2023, at her home in Mt Hope. She was born Jan. 28, 1973, in Hutchinson to William and Angie (Warneke) Wiese.

Jill was confirmed at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haven on May 17th 1987. Jill graduated from Haven High School in 1991 and attended Hutchinson Community College. She worked as an accounting clerk and was a farmer’s wife. Jill was outgoing and social and loved to visit with friends and family. She also loved spending time with her three nieces. Jill was an avid reader and bird watcher, and in years past, enjoyed crocheting as well. She was a member at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haven.

On June 5, 1993, she married her high school sweetheart Brian Earl Hiebert in Haven. They shared nearly 30 years together.

Jill Renee Hiebert, 50, died Feb. 17, 2023, at her home in Mt Hope. She was born Jan. 28, 1973, in Hutchinson to William and Angie (Warneke) Wiese.Jill was confirmed at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haven on May 17th 1987. Jill graduated from Haven High School in 1991 and attended Hutchinson Community College. She worked as an accounting clerk and was a farmer’s wife. Jill was outgoing and social and loved to visit with friends and family. She also loved spending time with her three nieces. Jill was an avid reader and bird watcher, and in years past, enjoyed crocheting as well. She was a member at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haven.On June 5, 1993, she married her high school sweetheart Brian Earl Hiebert in Haven. Charlie graduated from Satanta High School, Satanta, KS. He was a very successful entrepreneur, owning Charlie’s Service and Wrecker Service, along with other businesses.

Charlie enjoyed watching KU basketball, gardening, fishing, feeding the birds, and working in the yard. He was an avid racecar driver of jalopies and Super Modified series, a passionate softball coach of “Charlie’s,” and a loyal member of the HCC Quarterback Club.

Charlie is survived by his five children: Ron (Donna) Goodwin, Tonganoxie, KS, Kae (Duane) Ruesegger, Chootaw, OK, Wynona (Dwight) Gehring, Hutchinson, Rick (Dalaine) Pitts, Hutchinson, and Rhonda (Ken) Crissman, Troutman, NC; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Forest Pitts and Orrin Pitts, both of Hutchinson.

He was proceeded in death by: his parents; brothers, Lloyd, Carl, and Roy; and sister, Cleo.

Jo Anne Leasure, 88, of Hutchinson, died February 16, 2023, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler. She was born July 31,1934, in Dodge City, to Gordon Ray and Bessie Bethel (Pierce) Vance.

Jo Anne graduated from Dodge City High School in 1952. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Kline Insurance and then Fee Insurance. Jo Anne was a charter member of Crossroads Christian Church and was active in visiting nursing home residents and those in the hospital. She was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles. Jo Anne also was a good baker and bread was her specialty.

On July 19, 1953, she married Kenneth R. “Ken” Leasure, in Dodge City. They shared nearly 70 years of marriage. He survives.

Also surviving are: her sons, Vance Leasure (Judy) of Hutchinson, Tim Leasure (Cheryl) of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Taylor Leasure, Casey Leasure, Madison Leasure, Kyle Pontius (Abbey), Troy Pontius; four great-grandchildren; sister, Berna Dene Spriggs of Wichita; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Jo Anne was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Cara Lee Howard and Marjorie Snell.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Crossroads Christian Church, 4310 N. Monroe, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park.

Brent Wayne Nelson, 68, of Falun, KS, died peacefully February 9, 2023, of throat cancer at Hospice House, Hutchinson, with his older brother by his side.&nbsp; He returned to the earth shrouded in his favorite Pendleton wool blanket February 13, 2023, in a green burial at Heart Land Prairie Cemetery, New Cambria, Kansas.

Brent was the son of Darald (Mannie) Nelson and Ruth (Dolly) Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Darald (Mannie) Nelson.&nbsp; Brent is survived by: his mother, Ruth (Dolly) Nelson of Bethany Home, Lindsborg; brothers, Edwin (Elizabeth) of Walpole, MA and Ward of Smolan, KS; adopted daughter, Alyssa Gaede of Colby; grandchildren, Daniel, Mali and Maja Crawford; nephews, Erick Nelson of Portland, OR, Mark Nelson of Honolulu, HI, Jon Nelson of Providence, RI; niece, Anna Nelson of Denver, CO; and former wives, Donna Sheer and Debra Fisher.

Brent was born March 9, 1954, and raised on the family farm a half-mile west of Smolan, KS.&nbsp; He attended Smolan Grade School and graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1972, followed by studies at Salina Area Vocational Technical School.

Brent is The Brent Nelson of the “Brent Nelson Special” Sandwich at the Öl Stuga, Lindsborg, that was featured on Good Morning America in November 2010! &nbsp;Brent was a product developer at Great Plains Manufacturing, Salina, where he worked from 1987-2017.&nbsp; While there, he developed several patents for seed planting delivery systems. In addition, Brent’s marksmanship with handguns gained him national rankings and recognition. Native American culture was a passion throughout his life that culminated in constructing a Lakota Sweat Lodge and conducting ceremonies on the family farm.

Spiritual, creative, insightful, brilliant and kind, Brent listened to a different drummer and was a source of wisdom for those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Eloise Marie McKnight Lichty, 98, passed away peacefully at Angel Arms, in McPherson, KS, on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.

Eloise was born in Quinter, Kansas, on January 26, 1925, to Verna (Long) and John D. McKnight.&nbsp; Following graduation from Quinter High School, she attended McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas, where she met D. Eugene Lichty from Waterloo, Iowa.&nbsp; They were married on August 20, 1944, and enjoyed nearly 70 years together.&nbsp; From 1946-1948 this young couple volunteered in Carrara, Italy, under church auspices, helping orphans after wartime.

Being part of the Church of the Brethren was important throughout Eloise’s life.&nbsp; She lived faithfully as a pastor’s wife, bringing her gift of music, of directing plays and children’s musicals, the art of being a hostess, and her concern for others to every church they served, in Oklahoma, Missouri, Ohio, and Arizona.&nbsp; In 1993, she and Eugene made their home in McPherson, KS, where they enjoyed participating in the McPherson Church of the Brethren and being part of McPherson College cultural events.&nbsp; And in her 60s decade, Eloise completed her own college education at Mac!

Eloise and Eugene hosted three year-long high school exchange students, from three different continents.&nbsp; Whenever foreigners arrived in town, the Lichtys wanted to help them feel welcomed. They also had a habit of inviting any newcomers to church, either to their home for a meal or out for Sunday lunch.&nbsp; Eloise had a fine soprano voice and sang in church and civic choirs for many years.&nbsp; To supplement a pastor’s income, she gave piano lessons, taught Kindergarten, and worked in a doctor’s office.&nbsp; She will also be remembered for her fine culinary skills, including a short while in a private catering service with her friend ImoJean Frantz.

Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marlys Bengston, and her husband Eugene.&nbsp; Survivors include two daughters and three sons:&nbsp; Jean (Francis) Hendricks, McPherson; Marilyn (Rob) Rosenow, Beaverton, OR; Dan (Lynne) Lichty, McPherson; Kent (Lori) Lichty, Lee’s Summit, MO; Lyle (Ilona) Lichty, Mt. Vernon, IA; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, February 25, 11:00 a.m. at the McPherson Church of the Brethren, McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp;

Grant A. Young, 60, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born January 20, 1963 in Hutchinson, KS, to Ellis G. and Kathryn A. (Laskowski) Young.

Grant became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized at the age of 25. Grant graduated from Buhler High School in 1981 and graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education.&nbsp; He taught privately for more than 30 years.&nbsp; He was the leader and lead trumpeter of the Air Capital Big Band which was featured at the River Festival and the Sedgwick County Zoo summer series of concerts.&nbsp; He also worked several years as a jazz adjudicator and clinician at the Wichita Jazz Festival. Grant played with several well-known music personalities such as Ray Charles, Patti Page and The Temptations.&nbsp; In Grant’s spare time, he enjoyed gardening, landscaping and helping others.&nbsp;

Grant is survived by his mother, Kathryn Young, a sister, Becky Young; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ellis Young.

Eldon Donald Becker, 73, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Pinnacle Park Healthcare &amp; Rehab in Salina, KS.&nbsp; He worked at Sanofi Winthrop/Abbott and CertainTeed, both of McPherson.

Eldon was born on April 30, 1949, in Moundridge, KS, the son of Donald Richard and Billie Richerlee (Sutton) Becker.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School.&nbsp; On March 5, 1978, Eldon was united in marriage to Donna L. Campbell in Little River, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two daughters, Jamie and Jennifer.

He attended Countryside Covenant Church, McPherson.

Survivors include: two daughters, Jamie Hamel of Edmond, OK and Jennifer Bontrager (Brian) of Yoder, KS; siblings, Jeanene Krough (Mark) of Randolph, VA, Darrell Becker (Shelly) of Coffeyville, KS, and Sandra Thomas of McPherson, KS; two grandchildren, Michael Bontrager and Daniel Bontrager; and many more extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 22, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Earl Keim, Jr., 53, of McPherson, KS, and formerly of New Jersey, California, and Hawaii, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, surrounded by family at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Richard was&nbsp; a United States Navy Veteran, serving during Operation Desert Storm. He was a former police officer for the City of McPherson from 1997 to 2018, and was most recently a Senior Production Operator for Pfizer in McPherson.

Richard was born on April 8, 1969, in Trenton, NJ, the son of Richard Earl Keim, Sr. and Gail Etta (Trebil) Keim.&nbsp; He attended Hutchinson Community College.&nbsp; On March 17, 2012, Richard was united in&nbsp; marriage to Holly M. Steinert in McPherson.&nbsp;

Survivors include: his loving wife, Holly Steinert-Keim of the home; children, Amanda Duever (Corey) of Sarasota, FL, Amber Keim of McPherson, KS, Adalynn Keim and Ashlynn Keim, both of the home; step-sons, Isaac Linscheid and Ethan Linscheid, both of McPherson, KS; mother-in-law, Sheila Smith of McPherson, KS; siblings, Paula Entwistle (Mark), Scott Hays, Lori Jones (Chris), and Gail Engle (Charlie); and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Hays.

Michael A. Henderson, 69, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS of a sudden illness. He was born April 4, 1953 in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Louis H. and Louise (Danford) Henderson.

Michael graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1971 and took a year of schooling at Hutchinson Community College. Michael worked several jobs in California. He retired after 28 years from Underground Vaults and Storage as a records management clerk and he also worked on the mine rescue team. Michael loved to medal detect and go catfishing.

On January 2, 1998, Michael married Ranea Risley at First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include his brothers, Lou Henderson Jr. of Huntington Beach, CA, Tim (Beth) Henderson of South Hutchinson, KS; sister, Patricia Miller of Hutchinson, KS, stepsons, Ryan Corkins of Lawrance, KS, Brett (Celia) Corkins of Kansas City, MO; step-granddaughter, Natalia Corkins; brothers-in-law, Terry (Sandy) Risley of Viera, FL, and Jeff (Monica) Risley of Springhill, FL; sister-in-law, Cheryl (John) Laughary of Wichita, KS; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law, Buren and Edith Risley.

Per Michael’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Walter Dechant, 96, Hays, died Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at HaysMed.

He was born April 13, 1926 in Antonino, the son of Joseph and Anna (Speier) Dechant. On September 30, 1947 he was united in marriage to Marie Antoinette Feltis in Hays, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on December 25, 2011. Walter was a farmer, owned and operated Dechant Oil Company, and enjoyed his work as an oilfield pumper and producer. His memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Schoenchen Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #4166, and the Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Assembly #282. He loved bowling, playing in many card clubs and dancing with Marie, and the extensive traveling they did together.

Survivors include his son: Steven Dechant and wife Mary Kay of Hutchinson, three daughters: Debra Rippe of Aurora, CO, Judith Kisner and husband Mark of Sugar Land, TX, and Glori Dechant of Olathe, twelve grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie, son-in-law: Ron Rippe, grandson: Kenon Lane Rippe, three brothers: William, Gene, and Richard Dechant, and seven sisters: Josephine Legleiter, Alice Legleiter, Marcella Zimmerman, Adeline Zimmerman, Eleanor King, Stella VonFeldt, and Mabel Riedel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Daise officiating. Burial will follow in St Joseph Cemetery. Joyce Elaine Rickner, 92, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2023, at Regent Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Wichita.&nbsp; She was a homemaker.

Joyce was born on October 5, 1930, in Salem, Oregon, to Thomas and Goldie Pearl (Monroe) McLeod.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School.&nbsp; On August 1, 1954, Joyce was united in marriage to Donald Keith Rickner in McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two daughters, Lori and Diane. Keith and Joyce were married for 64 years before his passing on September 12, 2018.

She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church, McPherson.&nbsp; She also was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Amity Friendship Club, Bridge Club and TOPS of McPherson.&nbsp;

Survivors include: two daughters, Lori Hurst (Randy) of Augusta, KS and Diane Rotha (Brent) of Wichita, KS; five grandchildren, Mallory Grimmett (Will), Connor Hurst, Kaleigh Hartzler (Jared), Logan Rotha, and Macie Priddy (Kelly); seven great-grandchildren, Braxton, Brayden, Atley, Avery, Kowen, Khloe, and Brylynn; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas McLeod and Harold &amp; Goldie Stowe; husband, Keith Rickner; and three siblings, Leland McLeod, Shirley Siddens, and Merrill McLeod.

She attended school in Valley Center and was a 1976 graduate.&nbsp; Later in life she became a registered dietitian and worked at the Cheney Golden Age Home. In 2022 she took retirement from Smithfield where she worked as a security guard.

Barbara graduated from Haven High School in 1963. &nbsp;She was a lifelong member of&nbsp; Haven United Methodist Church and belonged to P.E.O. Chapter BL.

On May 9, 1964, she married her high school sweetheart, Delmar Kincaid, at Haven United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Barbara was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;
