Helen Steed, 103, longtime resident of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on July 10, 2025. She is survived by her two children, Diane Kay Steed of Annapolis, Maryland and Krisit Sue Steed of Wichita, Kansas. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents, Fred and Wilhemina Aschman, her brother, Marvin Aschman, and her sisters, Dorothy Aschman and Mildred Dalton.&nbsp;

Born in Nickerson, Kansas on August 18, 1921. Helen attended Nickerson High School and Hutchinson Junior College where she was a Salutatorian of her graduating class and met her husband, Charles. They were married 58 years.&nbsp;

Helen was a homemaker and member of Park Place Christian Church. She enjoyed reading, a variety of crafts, knitting, and golf. She also enjoyed visiting with her neighbors and baking them muffins and coffee cake, doing the daily crossword puzzle, and watching a variety of birds at her backyard feeder. She was an active volunteer with the Red Cross, the Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary, and the Friendship Bookshop at the Hutchinson Public Library. She also loved to travel, especially on a variety of trips to Europe and family trips to Florida and Colorado. Two of her favorites were Italy and Austria. She was a long-time member of PEO Chapter BY, the Hutchinson Art Association, and Prairie Dunes.&nbsp;

Her most recent passion was watching Kansas University basketball games and cheering on the Jayhawks. She was undoubtedly their oldest and Number One Fan. Unless it was virtually impossible, she never missed a game…or the Coach’s post-game show. She received a note from KU Coach Self on her hundredth birthday.&nbsp;

Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Park Place Christian Church, 2600 N. Adams, Hutchinson, with Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp;

Paul Anson Hernandez, also known as “Nature Boy,” was born on August 4, 1965, in Newton, KS to Russell Hernandez and Teresa Martinez. On July 7, 2025, Paul was called to heaven.

He is survived by his son, Eric Hernandez; daughters, Sharayah Hernandez, and Gabrielle Hernandez; son-in-law, William Quarles; grandsons, Max, and Sighier Anson Hernandez and grandpup, Tank.

Everyone who knew Paul knew how funny, caring, resilient and loving he was. He loved to tell the most outlandish, goofy stories and yank on people’s chains just to get a good laugh. Remembering Paul is remembering life. He was a man who didn’t let his health complications overtake the beautiful, fun, free-spirited life he chose to live. Whether it was going to rock and roll concerts, screaming at the TV as a die-hard Chiefs fan, or just cruising around on his bike, Paul lived a life full of excitement and happiness. Even in Paul’s final days, his spirit was still full of life as he was surrounded by his family and best friend of 40+ years, Eric Orr.

Timothy McCuan, 67, passed away at his home in Hutchinson, Kansas on June 29, 2025. Born January 27, 1958 Jerry McCuan and Dorothy Parr in Alameda, California.

He was in the Air Force in Wichita, Kansas. He loved watching his kids play sports.

Freddie L. Hoefer, 92, passed away July 2, 2025, at Reno County Hospice House. He was born in Hutchinson on November 18, 1932, to Elmer Hoefer and Verna Chase.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, working on cars and tinkering around in the garage. He worked at Cessa/Eaton for 35 years.

Freddie is survived by his wife Betty J. Hoefer, children Vickie Hoefer, Kenny (Shelly) Hoefer, Darla Corkins and Larry Hoefer, 8 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren and sister Wanda Alls of Seymour, Tenn.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Elmer and Verna, brother Zorby, sisters Berry Lou Knarr, Ruthie White, Thelma Klotz (Amelia), Midge Sinclair, Judy Cole and son in law Larry Corkins.

Rickey “Rick” L. Pitzer, 67, of Hutchinson, passed away July 9, 2025, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita. He was born May 31, 1958, in Hutchinson, to Clarence and Carol (Birt) Pitzer.

Rick was a 1977 graduate from Nickerson High School. He worked for Doskocil Companies (which later became Tyson Foods) in construction and production for 37 years. Rick enjoyed sports, especially playing softball and golf, for many years. Recently, Rick’s favorite activities included working in his yard, and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren.&nbsp;

Rick was a member of Journey Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson.&nbsp;

On June 10, 1978, Rick married his high school sweetheart, Kim Miller. They recently celebrated 47 years of marriage.

Rick is survived by: beloved wife, Kim Pitzer; daughter, Melissa (Kristopher) Strait, Centerton, Arkansas; son, Jason (Brooksie) Pitzer, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Blake Strait, Jackson Strait, and Samantha Pitzer; sister, Kay (John) Hermes, Hutchinson; father-in-law, Orvin Miller, Hutchinson; brother-in-law, Scott (Susan) Miller, Ames, Iowa; brother-in-law, Todd (Cindy) Miller, Hutchinson; sister-in-law Debra Pitzer, South Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was born on January 11, 1961 in Kingman, Kansas, the daughter of Earl Ross and Margaret Elizabeth Ebeling Deck. Patty was raised in Hutchinson, Kansas where she attended high school and played softball for the Rail House Movers. Patty served six years in the Army Reserves.

Patty moved to Salina, Kansas where she worked for Beechcraft until moving&nbsp; to Wichita in 1993 and working for Beachcraft/Raytheon, where she remained for over 25 years before retiring in 2009.She loved her dogs and spending time at the lake with family and friends.

Survivors include her siblings Robert L Deck and wife Thaylia of South Hutchinson; Carol J Mellenbruch and husband Lowell of Hutchinson;&nbsp;Keith E Deck and spouse Allen of Wichita; long time friend Betty Rupp of Wichita; two nephews and two nieces.

She was Preceded in death by her parents; sister Carla Sue Wright and a nephew.

Roger Dean Dickinson, 76, of Hutchinson, KS, left this world on July 8, 2025 to join his Lord and Savior. &nbsp;Roger entered this world on November 17, 1948 in McPherson, KS as the son of Glen W, and Esther (Heidebrecht) Dickinson. Roger led a life full of adventure, love and joy. After attending Nickerson High School, he went on to serve his country, joined the US Navy and served honorably in Vietnam.

Roger, after his time with the Navy, pursued his other loves. Roger loved anything to do with construction. He started Hutchinson Drywall, which was an integral part of building the Hutchinson Mall, Liberty Middle School among many other buildings throughout Kansas and surrounding states. &nbsp;He eventually transitioned his extensive knowledge of construction and entrepreneurial spirit to build the 3rd largest home inspection company in the nation. Roger retired to Kansas to help care for family. While he enjoyed his retirement, appreciating his time with friends and family he found he couldn’t sit still for very long, he built another home inspection company that covered Hutchinson, Wichita, and surrounding areas, while also working at Home Depot and Lowes at various times. He always wanted to stay engaged and &nbsp;busy.&nbsp;

Roger had one great love, his wife, Connie. Roger married Connie, who he would proudly tell anyone who listened, that she was the love of his life, on October 23,1981. Together, through their 44 years of marriage, pursued a life of joy, love and adventure, raising a family, traveling and enjoying their time with friends and family.&nbsp;

Roger, an active member of First Congregational Church of Hutchinson enjoyed a rich and full life. He was known as a generous friend, quick to offer a helping hand, or to offer a smile, or a laugh using his own brand of dry humor and quick wit. You could often find him pursuing his other hobbies including wood working, vintage cars and bird hunting.&nbsp;

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Connie (Burton) Dickinson; daughters, Christine Swann, &nbsp;Dallas, TX, Lori Dickinson, Newton, KS, and Jayme Phillips, Lyons, KS: 9 grandchildren and; sisters, Karen Pitzer, Rose Hill, KS, Bonnie Swenson, Moundridge, KS, Judy Dickinson and Jane Dickinson, Wichita, KS; brother, Jerry Dickinson, Hutchinson, KS; sister-and brother-in-law, Renee (Burton) and Jim King, Liberty, MO: sisters-in-law, Irene (Jim) Dickinson, Hutchinson, and Noelle (Craig) Jost, Hillsboro, KS: numerous nieces and nephews that he took pleasure in watching grow up and take their place in the world. James Cooprider, 97, passed away on July 8, 2025, at The Cedars, McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born February 8, 1928.&nbsp; His parents were Henry and Clara Cooprider.&nbsp; He attended a local elementary school in Groveland Township in McPherson County.&nbsp; He then attended Hesston Academy in Hesston, Kansas, Class of 1946.&nbsp; In 1948, he married Wilma Sparks whom he met at Hesston Academy.&nbsp; He was a lifelong farmer and stockman.&nbsp; He was a member of Journey Mennonite Church.

James is survived by his children: Jim Cooprider, Duane (Julie) Cooprider, and Donna Burnett; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Wilma Sparks Cooprider; his parents; his twin sister, Joyce Schrock Cook; and his son-in-law, Richard Burnett.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 15, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; A burial will be held prior to the service at 9:00 AM, at West Liberty Cemetery (located at the intersection of 4th&nbsp;Avenue and Comanche road, rural McPherson).

Kenneth L. “Ken” Washburn, Jr., 73, of Hutchinson, died July 6, 2025, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. He was born December 16, 1951, in Greensburg, Kansas, to Kenneth L. Washburn, Sr. and Phyllis W. Cline.

Ken proudly served in the United States Army 1st Battalion 3rd Infantry “The Old Guard”. He enjoyed working with his hands and was able to fix anything he set his sights on. Ken was a master plumber who worked as an independent contractor and was employed at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for over 10 years. He also absolutely loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing and just being in nature. Ken’s love for his family shined through the most. Whether he was spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren or nieces and nephews he was happiest amongst those he loved and who loved him endlessly. Ken is described by his family as sweet, generous, loyal, handy and carefree.&nbsp;

On January 24, 1973, he married Joyce Brown, in Greensburg, Kansas. They shared 52 amazing years of marriage before his death. They met in Arlington, Virginia at Ken’s Army going away party and it was love at first sight. Once married they lived in Maine, Kansas, and Vermont.&nbsp;

Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Washburn of Hutchinson; sons, Barry Washburn and wife Keri of Melbourne, Florida, Paul Washburn and wife Sharon of Hutchinson, Kansas grandchildren, Connor Torres and husband Spencer, Abby Washburn, and Sam Washburn; great-grandchildren, Simon and Callum Torres; siblings, Bill Washburn and wife Pam, Kathy Crenshaw, Tracy Lawson and husband Bret, and many more loved family members.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Sharon graduated from Conway Springs High School in 1966, and attended Pikes Peak Community College. &nbsp;For 10 years, she worked in custodial services at Trinity Catholic High School. &nbsp;Sharon retired as a manager from Pantry Plus, after 10 years of service. &nbsp;She enjoyed reading, and spending time with her numerous dogs and cats that she cared for and took under her wing. &nbsp;Sharon was a devout Catholic, spending countless hours praying the Rosary and reading her Bible. &nbsp;She was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson. &nbsp;

On September 7, 1982, she married Barry Jacob Rantin, in Great Bend. &nbsp;

Sharon is survived by: &nbsp;her husband of almost 43 years, Barry Rantin of Hutchinson; children, Chad Walker of Conway Springs, Natasha Walker (Bethany) of Wichita, and Jeremy Blaine of Hutchinson; half-brother, Cliff Smith (Kathryn) of Conway Springs; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild

Mary L. Gaeddert died on July 4, 2025 at Kidron Bethel Village, North Newton, Kansas. She was 94. Mary Lou Voran was born October 7, 1930, in Kingman County, Kansas, the daughter of Fred Ernest and Edna Mary (Graber) Voran. Mary was a graduate of Kingman High School and attended Bethel College (Kansas) where she received a teaching certificate. Mary taught first grade in Sedgwick, Kansas, before marrying John W. Gaeddert on June 1, 1951 at Bethany Mennonite Church in Kingman County. Mary described herself as a “helpmate” to her teacher/pastor husband, moving from rural Lehigh, Kansas to urban Chicago, Illinois and suburban Elkhart, Indiana; from Henderson, Nebraska to faraway Congo/Zaire; from the parsonage at Tabor Mennonite Church to a house in North Newton and finally to Kidron Bethel Village. At each stop along the way Mary had many jobs: teaching Sunday School, hosting church members and visiting speakers at the family home, and being stay-at-home mom to Susan, Dee and Russ. She sewed outfits and cooked meal after meal after expertly prepared meal. She helped her kids put on a circus for the neighborhood. Singing in church and community choirs was one of her life’s great joys, and Mary anchored every soprano section she ever sang in. She did daily battle with John’s many cowlicks. John’s career took the family many, many places, and Mary made a home wherever they went. But how do you make a home in the capital city of a country recently and violently overthrown in a coup? In Kinshasa in the 1960s, Mary did it, working with unfamiliar ingredients and in uncertain times, setting tables for her kids and famished Pax men alike. How do you make a home when the church owns it, when little is yours alone and all eyes are on you as the pastor’s wife? In rural Goessel, Mary did it, as the Vietnam War raged, protests erupted and the children grew. How do you make a home when all you had was sold off before the previous move? How do you make a home when the bank account dips dangerously low? When you feel utterly spent, at your wit’s end? Mary did it. Mary Lou Gaeddert made her homes well, with love, talent and determination. With the children grown and the demands at home more manageable, Mary began a second career as a copy editor and proofreader for Faith and Life Press and a typesetter for Mennonite Press in Newton, Kansas, retiring in 1992. The need for careful precision and sustained attention suited Mary. Under her watchful eye, many a “who” became a “whom.” The dictionary tells us there is a difference between “love” and “like”; Mary loved all, as Jesus taught, but she had no particular fondness for the players and coaches of teams that opposed her Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals. Special enmity was reserved for the likes of John Elway and Kirby Puckett. Puckett once apologized in writing to Mary for hitting a game-winning home run against the Royals. Whether Mary truly accepted that apology is unknown, but that restaurant ticket autographed by Puckett maintained a place of pride on the Gaeddert pinboard for many years. Mary is survived by three children: Susan Bartel (Allan) of North Newton, Kansas; Dee Gaeddert Dorsey (Jim) of Grant, Minnesota.; and Russell Gaeddert (Jean Flickinger) of Hutchinson, Kansas; four grandchildren: Nathan Bartel (Kendra Burkey), Megan Bartel (Chris Lowen), Adam Gaeddert (Rebecca Woodruff), and Sam Gaeddert (Keila Quenzer); six great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Lois Strong and Velma Stoesz. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Dallas Voran, Paul Voran (Benetta and second wife Grace), and Robert Voran; one sister, Helen M. Deborah Diann Clothier, 73, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025, in Hutchinson, KS. Deborah was born on May 17, 1952, in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Willard and Eva (Mullins) Tracy.

In 1971, Deborah graduated from Buhler High School and later attended Sidney’s Hairdressing College and Salt City Business College. She received her associates degree from Barton Community College. On December 22, 1973, Deborah married Donald E. Clothier in Hutchinson.

Deborah enjoyed art, painting, sewing, traveling and spending as much of her free time with her family. She was a member of Crossroads Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; two brothers, Robert Luce and Timothy Tracy; and one son-in-law, Brandon Hoffman.

Edwin Joseph “Eddie” Moeder, 90, died July 2, 2025, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born on February 23, 1935, in Odin, KS, to Edward and Ida (Penka) Moeder.

Eddie was a 1953 graduate of Odin High School. He was in the Military Police and served in the United States Army. Eddie was a member of the VFW Post 1361 and the American Legion Lysle Rischel Post 68. He worked at Dillon’s as the fleet maintenance manager for over 25 years. Eddie loved spending time outdoors; he went camping with his family, hunting, fishing, and golfing. He enjoyed woodworking and a cold beer after a long day’s work. Eddie was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Knights of Columbus Council #612.

On July 18, 1959, in Hutchinson, he married Carol Jean Kornstett. They shared over 50 years in marriage, prior to her death on August 29, 2009.

Eddie is survived by: children, Dane Moeder, Denise (Darrell) Stewart, Troy (Stacey) Moeder, all of Hutchinson, Niki (Brian) Fiffe of Catonsville, MD; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry (Jan) Moeder of Great Bend and Mary Ann Fisher of Plainville.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Carol Moeder; brothers, Leonard Moeder, Ray Moeder, August Moeder, Leo Moeder, Rich Moeder; and sisters, Monica Schneider and Vi Prosser.

Parish Rosary will be 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Visitation will follow the rosary, from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the church. Victor Lee Wilkinson, age 65, was born in Hutchinson on December 30, 1959, and passed away suddenly on July 2, 2025, from a heart attack.

Victor attended both Haven and Buhler Public Schools. &nbsp;He graduated from Buhler High School a semester early to work at Consolidated Manufacturing. There, Victor rebuilt car engines for 18 years, first on the assembly line and later managing quality control.

On July 29, 1994 he married Angela Lindahl. They shared over 30 years of love, laughter, common interests, projects, and unique experiences.

While working at Consolidated, Victor observed his wife’s love of teaching and wanted to pursue having a classroom of his own. After the birth of his son, he became a stay-at-home dad for two years. During this time, Victor also earned his Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and started his Master’s degree at Wichita State University.

In 1997, Victor started his teaching career in 5th grade at Avenue A Elementary in the Hutchinson school district. He later enjoyed working with second graders at McCandless Elementary. Victor most recently taught 7th and 8th grade science at Prairie Hills Middle School.

Victor started an archery club in Hutchinson schools and then later at Prairie Hills Middle School. With fellow science teacher Shelly Brooks, he also launched the Bee Club—making Prairie Hills the first school in Kansas to receive a grant from the Kansas Honey Producers.&nbsp;

Victor happily spent long hours cultivating an outdoor learning environment across from his middle school. He dug a pond, installed bridges, created trails, and planted thousands of wildflower seeds. Victor also enjoyed taking students on field trips to Fort Riley and Kanopolis Lake to enjoy nature and hunt for reptiles and amphibians. All of these activities provided unique opportunities for many children.

Victor’s family appreciated his sense of humor and willingness to help others. This has been reflected in comments made by his colleagues, students, and their parents. Knowing that people outside Victor’s family recognized the contribution he made has been heart-warming to those that loved him.

He completed his 27th year of teaching this May. &nbsp;The upcoming school year was to be Victor’s final year in the classroom. He had recently set his retirement date for June 2026 so he could be outside all day/every day, and have more time to complete the projects on his “Before We Get Old” to-do list that he had recently posted on the back of the family’s pantry door.

Victor’s work ethic was something to behold. He worked long hours on many projects and enjoyed the pleasure of a job well done. Amazingly, many of Victor’s projects were not on his own land or for himself, but for the good of others. He was generous with his time and energy. Victor was a quiet leader who did things for his community “because they needed to be done.”

He loved the outdoors and learning new things. Victor spent a great deal of time planting, growing and cultivating ecosystems, and planning things that would benefit wild animals and the students in his classes.

His love of living things led him to many hobbies, such as herpetology, beekeeping, falconry, bonsai, and collecting unique plants.

Victor was extremely proud of his family and they adored him. His presence will be greatly missed by his wife, Angela Wilkinson, and their two children, Garrett Wilkinson of Boston, MA, (Olivia Zhao) and Brecken Wilkinson of Manhattan, KS (Connor Peak), and his many animal companions.

Other surviving family members include: sisters Shelly Cole (Brannon), Shawna Keller (Darren), Angela Holoubek Albright (Brent), and brothers Tim Wilkinson (Blythe), and Shannon Wilkinson (Jennifer), and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He also loved being a son-in-law to Becky and Gary Lindahl.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Peggy Holoubek and Terry Wilkinson.

The family is hosting a celebration of Victor’s life at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary. &nbsp;The family will receive friends at the church, following the service.

Troy Dean Brown, 58, of Hutchinson, passed peacefully in his sleep on June 29, 2025, surrounded by family, at Ascension Via Christi - St. Francis in Wichita, after a brief illness. He was born November 4, 1966, in Hutchinson, to M. Duane and Judy (Leatherbury) Brown.

Troy attended Nickerson schools, graduating from Nickerson High School in 1985. Shortly after graduation, he joined the United States Navy, participating in the Gulf War’s Desert Shield and Desert Storm. While Troy never saw active combat, he felt fortunate to explore port cities across America, southern Europe, the Mediterranean, Middle East, and southwest Asia. After being honorably discharged, Troy worked various jobs. He liked to keep his options open while gaining new experiences; from long-haul truck driving to grain elevator inspection to machinist, forklift driver, baker for Dutch Kitchen, and various positions for Dillons. In 2019 Troy finally grew roots in Hutchinson, buying his first home and was currently working as the shoe department manager for Atwoods.

Troy never married and had no children, but he loved his nieces and nephews unconditionally. Troy loved spending time with his family and never missed a holiday or birthday, or spoiling everyone at Christmas. A big kid at heart, Troy was always ready to watch a Disney movie, play Monopoly, go for ice cream, or teach the kids how to win Mario Kart. He enjoyed spending his days with close friends, his evenings playing video games online with his nephew, and taking his dad and sister to lunch every Sunday. Troy was also an avid lover of music and never missed an opportunity to share the classics or listen to new stuff recommended by his niece and nephew. His most recent plan was to attend an Alice Cooper and Judas Priest show with his niece.

Troy is survived by: his father, Duane; sister, Rhonda Stewart; niece Jennifer Wise (Stephen Zook); nephew, Austin Stewart (Kiersten); great-nephews, Marshal, Carter, Ren; great-niece, Sequoia; aunt, Debbie Soper (Ed); and numerous life-long friends that are as close as family.

He was preceded in death by: his most beloved mother, Judy; grandparents, Ted and Dolly Brown, David and Mildred Leatherbury; uncles, Bob Brown, Davey Leatherbury Jr; aunts, Miriam Bailey, Shirley Green, Glennda Leatherbury, Shelley Leatherbury; and his “only son” Tom the tomcat.

Richard Wiley Woody, 76, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at his home in Inman, KS surrounded by his family. Richard was born on November 26, 1948, in Overton, TX, the son of Bertus and Dorothy (Procter) Woody.

In 1967, Richard graduated from Sterling High School. Three days after graduating high school, Richard served in the U.S. Army in 1967-1971 in the special forces. Richard served 2 tours in the Vietnam War where he received 2 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. After receiving an honorable discharge from the army, he enrolled in Hutchinson Community College and graduated with his Associate of Applied Arts degree, majoring in business management. He worked for the US Postal Service for over 40 years as a delivery supervisor and a postmaster in Hutchinson and Sterling. On March 7, 1973, Richard married Wanda J. Wedel in Great Bend, KS.

Richard was a very special person, but very private. He loved to garden, and he gave most of the produce away and there wasn’t an animal that he didn’t love and take care of. He was a member of the American Legion Post 68, in Hutchinson and VFW in Sterling.

He was preceded death by his parents; and a brother, Ed Woody.

Richard Wiley Woody |1948-2025|

FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ- June Louise Lowrey was born in Hutchinson Kansas on May 20, 1924 to Lawrence I. and Elsie Lowrey. She married her beloved husband Frederick I “Bud” Shaffer, Jr., immediately after his discharge from the Army Air Corp on March 5, 1946 in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp;

They lived in Hutchinson until 1998, when they, along with the families of Ron, Tim, and Rick moved to Fountain Hills, AZ to join their son John. She passed away May 6, 2025, at the age of 100. &nbsp;God and family were the center of her life. There was no separation of the two.&nbsp;

June was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson, and later, Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church in Arizona. Together with Bud, she provided a loving, stable household for their four sons. She also found the time to volunteer for many causes that required her love. She volunteered at Grace Hospital, later to be named Hutchinson Hospital in the Physical Therapy department. She also cared for dying people as a Hospice Volunteer. She attended Kansas State University, and remained active with Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority alumni chapters in Hutchinson, and Phoenix. She attended regular meetings of PEO.&nbsp;

When 3 of her sons joined Sigma Chi Fraternity, at Kansas University, she gathered with other mothers on various trips to Lawrence, to help the fraternity. Throughout her entire life, she lived to give love. She did not want attention. Instead, in addition to members of her family, she quietly consoled others with wisdom, caring, and tenderness. If one wanted to know God, they needed only to see the sparkle and light coming from her eyes.

She also cared for her extended family. She kept in touch with her aunts in Wichita. Her sister-in-law Sissy Bowden became her true sister, as they talked constantly on the phone, even though they lived apart. June was always curious as to what was going on with “The Chabins “and The Bowdens.”

As an active member of Prairie Dunes, June and Bud enjoyed tennis and golf. They liked spending time with friends, as long as it did not distract from their boys. Both June and Bud were excellent bridge players. She continued to play bridge with her bridge friends her entire life, even teaching others how to play. She did not care about pop culture. Rather, June loved to read books, even into her late 90s.

She was preceded in death by her mother Elsie and her father “Jack, or Grampie” Lowrey. June is survived by her 4 sons and families, 8 grand- children and families, and 4 great grandchildren: Rick Shaffer; Ron and Brenda Shaffer; Stephanie Dieterich, Cade, Beau; Chris and Nikki Shaffer, Maverick, Marley June; Tim and Diana, Craig, Julie, Ted, Natalie, Tori; John and Elizabeth Shaffer, Sophia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, on October 16, 2002.

A Memorial Service was held at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at 3:00 PM.

Private family graveside service will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp; &nbsp; Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp; &nbsp;

 </figure>FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ- June Louise Lowrey was born in Hutchinson Kansas on May 20, 1924 to Lawrence I. and Elsie Lowrey. She married her beloved husband Frederick I “Bud” Shaffer, Jr., immediately after his discharge from the Army Air Corp on March 5, 1946 in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp;They lived in Hutchinson until 1998, when they, along with the families of Ron, Tim, and Rick moved to Fountain Hills, AZ to join their son John. She passed away May 6, 2025, at the age of 100. &nbsp;God and family were the center of her life. There was no separation of the two.&nbsp;June was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson, and later, Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church in Arizona. Together with Bud, she provided a loving, stable household for their four sons. She also found the time to volunteer for many causes that required her love. She volunteered at Grace Hospital, later to be named Hutchinson Hospital in the Physical Therapy department. She also cared for dying people as a Hospice Volunteer. She attended Kansas State University, and remained active with Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority alumni chapters in Hutchinson, and Phoenix. She attended regular meetings of PEO.&nbsp;When 3 of her sons joined Sigma Chi Fraternity, at Kansas University, she gathered with other mothers on various trips to Lawrence, to help the fraternity. Throughout her entire life, she lived to give love. She did not want attention. Instead, in addition to members of her family, she quietly consoled others with wisdom, caring, and tenderness. If one wanted to know God, they needed only to see the sparkle and light coming from her eyes.She also cared for her extended family. She kept in touch with her aunts in Wichita. Her sister-in-law Sissy Bowden became her true sister, as they talked constantly on the phone, even though they lived apart. June was always curious as to what was going on with “The Chabins “and The Bowdens.”As an active member of Prairie Dunes, June and Bud enjoyed tennis and golf. They liked spending time with friends, as long as it did not distract from their boys. Both June and Bud were excellent bridge players. She continued to play bridge with her bridge friends her entire life, even teaching others how to play. She did not care about pop culture. Rather, June loved to read books, even into her late 90s.She was preceded in death by her mother Elsie and her father “Jack, or Grampie” Lowrey. June is survived by her 4 sons and families, 8 grand- children and families, and 4 great grandchildren: Rick Shaffer; Ron and Brenda Shaffer; Stephanie Dieterich, Cade, Beau; Chris and Nikki Shaffer, Maverick, Marley June; Tim and Diana, Craig, Julie, Ted, Natalie, Tori; John and Elizabeth Shaffer, Sophia. Kathy J. Culbert, 68, of Hutchinson, died June 25, 2025, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born March 28, 1957, in Hutchinson, to William and Martha (DeWater) Francis.&nbsp;

Kathy touched countless lives with her kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith. For many years, she was a cherished childcare provider, running her own daycare and nurturing children with gentle care and guidance. She later continued her calling as a teacher at Praise Corner Preschool, where her warmth and joy lit up every classroom.

Kathy and her husband, Bob, served faithfully as children’s church pastors at Victorious Life Church for thirteen years. Through their ministry, Kathy led many young hearts to Jesus, planting seeds of faith that will grow for generations.

Above all, Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy was found in beautiful moments spent with her family — sharing laughter, stories, and unconditional love.

Kathy’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the faith she shared, and the love she gave so freely. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her light continues to shine in all who know her.&nbsp;

On December 6, 1985, she married Robert Culbert. They shared nearly 40 years together before her death.

Kathy is survived by: beloved husband, Bob Culbert; daughters, Amie Babineau, Taylor Culbert (Jacques Parker), Brooklynn (Thomas) Whipp, and Kathryn Culbert; mother, Martha Francis; siblings, James (Lori) Francis, Jo Ann Francis, and Christy (Steve) Ronsick; grandchildren, Spencer Lloyd, Knox Whipp, Saylor Whipp, and baby Parker on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Francis.&nbsp;

Reiley (Kyler) Kelsey, 23, died June 28, 2025, unexpectedly at his home in Buhler. He was born on November 14, 2001, in Hutchinson, to Angela Marie Kelsey.

Reiley attended Buhler High School. He held various positions in customer service. Reiley was a truly remarkable person. He loved his model train collection and was fascinated by aircraft of all kinds. He had a huge heart, always ready with a joke or a smile to lift someone’s spirits. Reiley was intelligent, loving, and had a deep connection with his girlfriend in Texas. He was in the process of transitioning and was happier than his family had ever seen him. His love for his family and friends was boundless, and he always made sure that everyone felt cared for and supported. He had several online gaming friends that he never met, but who have said that he has saved their lives numerous times by being there for them and letting them know that they are valuable and loved. They also said that Reiley has pulled them up off the ground and helped them back up again. He touched the hearts and lives of so many people, and his passing has hit his family and friends from all over the world with great loss.

Brenda Kay Jensen, 72, of Hutchinson, KS, died July 1, 2025, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born March 22, 1953, in Hutchinson, to John T. and R. Byrdene (Adams) Perkins.

Brenda graduated from Central Christian High School. She worked in food service for many years and was kitchen manager at Golden Plains Health Care Center and Dillon Living Center before she retired. Brenda loved watching cooking shows and Christmas movies year-round. But most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Brenda was a member of Crossroads Christian Church.

On January 5, 1976, she married Lloyd Jensen Jr. in Hutchinson. He died July 24, 2001.

Brenda is survived by: her daughter-in-law, Michelle Jensen; grandsons, Jonathan Jensen and fiancé Holli Wyatt, Dylan Jensen and partner Jaden Whitaker, Braeden Jensen, Camden Jensen, Payten Jensen; great-grandson, Zephyr Whitaker; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son, Lloyd Jensen III; siblings, Delaine Perkins, Sheldon Perkins, Delwin Perkins, Carolyn Wilk, and Mary Jo Trejo.

Maegan attended both Hutchinson High School and Buhler High School. &nbsp;Known for her competitive spirit and drive, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing darts, and searching for rocks in the river. &nbsp;Maegan was an avid thrifter, and had a special talent for turning thrifting finds into amazing and beautiful décor.&nbsp;

Maegan is survived by: children, Noah Delgado, Emily Delgado, and Maylee Marie Morales; mother, Vickie J. Byard; granddaughter, Kalani Lee Ruiz; companion, Matthew Morales; brothers, Chris Byard (Nikkee) and Matt Byard (Christina), all of Hutchinson; and nieces and nephews, Avery Byard, Korree Byard, Tanner Byard, Jace Byard, and Ada Byard.

Dr. Ivan Schrock, DVM, 97, passed away June 20, 2025, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. He was born October 18, 1927, to parents, Joni T. and Anna (Yoder) Schrock, in their home, near Yoder, KS.

Ivan was the 2nd of 4 children. He had a typical country childhood, playing with siblings and Amish and Mennonite cousins, walking or riding their horse to the near by Daisy Grade&nbsp;School, taking care of the animals, and when old enough, assisting his parents with the farm duties. Ivan attended Haven High School for 2 years before transferring to Hesston Academy, Hesston, his junior and senior years and graduating in 1946. &nbsp;

In 1948, Ivan married Joyce Cooprider. To this union, Claire and Kristine were born. The young family lived on a farm in McPherson County, where Ivan was a dairy farmer and raised grain. In 1960, the farm was sold as the family moved to Manhattan, KS, for Ivan to attend Veterinary School at Kansas State University. After years of hard work and dedication, he graduated in 1966. He accepted the offer of a partnership with Associated Veterinary Service, South Hutchinson, where he worked as veterinarian for many years. &nbsp;

Ivan later married Paulette Lainson in 1976. He grew his large animal practice at AVS, and moved back to the “home place” where they traveled and farmed.

&nbsp;Ivan retired from the veterinary practice in 1990, and returned to full time farming. He began his collection of tractors (especially John Deere), widened his study of American and World History, attended ALL home KSU football games and never missed the class of ’66 vet reunions. They were also long-time members of Park Place Church, Hutchinson. &nbsp;

Ivan is survived by: his daughters, Claire (Mark) Foy and Kristine (Dick Goforth) Schrock; stepdaughters, Gail Estes, Linda Marsh, and Susan (Clarence) Nolte; stepson, Eric Lainson; 3 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Alta Schrock.

He was preceded in death by: his wife of 46 years, Paulette Lainson; parents; brother, Lawrence; sisters and their spouses, Edith and Donovan Cooprider and Glenna and Tom Egli; daughter-in-law, Monna Lainson; and former wife, Joyce Schrock Cook.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Elliott Chapel, with Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. A private family burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Elmer, KS.
