HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno Connections is a United Way of Reno County program, thanks to the Early Childhood Block Grant in partnership with The Hutchinson Public Library. 

Through this program, the goal is to build a comprehensive case management, systems navigation, and referrals platform. This is a low-barrier program that aims to empower families to achieve their goals and not only maintain stability but work towards thriving. This is achieved by increasing positive parenting practices, social supports, and services, as well as strengthening the overall family unit.

A Community Care Coordinator, Valerie Taylor, runs this program and offices out of the Hutchinson Public Library. The coordinator is a community connector and provides appropriate individual and family connections designed to improve the holistic well-being of citizens that seek support. 

This includes conducting assessments and individual service plans, providing resources and referrals, aiding in systems navigation, and engaging in helping families advocate for themselves. Services are provided at the Hutchinson Public Library. 

The Community Care Coordinator also engages in community collaboration activities, educates, and strengthens relationships across the nonprofit and medical sector.

New program from library and United Way will help connect to resources

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Cosmosphere is an official drop-off location for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. 

You can drop off your new, unwrapped toys at the Cosmosphere Gift Store beginning Wednesday, November 2 through the the holiday season.

Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots collects toys in Reno County and disburses them out to families who place an application with them for toys during the Christmas season. 

They also collect monetary donations, which are spent on buying toys for Reno County. All toys and monetary donations stay local to Reno County.

Local non-profit organizations also put in applications with them during the Christmas season requesting toys for their toy distributions.&nbsp;

Cosmosphere is Toys for Tots drop-off site, it starts this week

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Lynsey Addario will be the final speaker of the 2022 Ray and Stella Dillon Lecture Series at Hutchinson Community College on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The lecture is open to the public. Cost to attend the lecture is only $10, with students admitted free.

Addario covers major conflict zones across the globe, including the Middle East, South Asia, Haiti, and Africa. A Pulitzer Prize winner, she is a regular contributor to National Geographic, The New York Times, and TIME magazine. In 2015, American Photo Magazine named Lynsey one of five “Most Influential Photographers” of the past 25 years for changing the way we see world conflict. Most recently, she has covered the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Syrian refugee crisis, the ISIS advance in Iraq, the civil war in South Sudan, the flow of African and Middle Eastern migrants into Sicily and, most recently, the war in Ukraine.

Addario began her photography career in 1996 with no formal training or studies. She freelanced for the Associated Press in New York for several years before moving to New Delhi, India to work in South Asia. In 2000, Addario first traveled to Afghanistan to document life and oppression under Taliban rule. She returned to Afghanistan numerous times before 9/11, and then covered conflicts in Iraq, Lebanon, Darfur, Congo, and Libya, where she was among the four New York Times journalists kidnapped in 2011.

Tickets to the lecture are available beginning at 9:45 a.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Dillon Lecture Series to host Pulitzer Prize Winner Tuesday

The class on November 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. will be led by Kacie Dix, a culinary arts teacher at Maize South High School.&nbsp;

The class is limited to eight participants. Registration will close November 4th.&nbsp;

Baking class for moms who have lost children is Nov. 8

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas Women Attorneys Association, Kansas Women Attorneys for Freedom, Kansas Bar Association, Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, the Kansas Association of Defense Counsel, and the Reno County Bar Association represent over 5,000 practicing lawyers in the State of Kansas.

The organizations issued a joint statement released on Monday evening in support of judicial retention in Kansas. The statement is below.

Six of seven justices on the Kansas Supreme Court and half of the judges on the Kansas Court of Appeals will be on the retention ballot in this year’s general election. These judges were appointed by five Kansas governors, both Republicans and Democrats, over the past 30 years.

We urge Kansas voters to ignore the political and special interest groups targeting our appellate courts.

We believe appellate court judges should be free to perform their duties fairly and impartially. Judges should not be influenced by partisanship or popularity when deciding controversial cases.

Please join us in the fight to protect our Kansas judicial system. Keep politics and political influence out of our courts.

Reno County Bar Association; statewide groups support judicial retention

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — <a href="https://www.vieyrahonorsfoundation.org/5kfunrunregistration?">Registration is ongoing</a>&nbsp;for the Vieyra Honors Foundation Veterans Honor 5K and Fun Run on Saturday, November 12 at 8:30 a.m. at DCI Park at 2nd and Main.

<a href="https://www.vieyrahonorsfoundation.org/5kfunrunregistration?">Registration is $40 for adults, $25 for children 12 and under. Veterans run for $30. Registration includes a T-Shirt and race medal.</a>

Participants are allowed to complete a one mile, two mile or three mile loop.&nbsp;

The 5K &amp; Fun Run will start and end between 2nd and 3rd streets on Main Street in Downtown Hutch with an awards ceremony held afterward. 

The loop will go down Main through the path of Veterans Banners currently on display organized earlier this year by VHF.

VFW Post 1361 will be hosting a pancake feed that is open to the public, as well.

Metropolitan Coffee, Kroger, Jackson’s and Hubco have all provided donations to help make this event possible, as well.

100% of all proceeds will go to Reno County Veterans Awareness and initiatives with the Foundation.

Veterans Honor 5K and Fun Run registration continues, event is Nov. 12

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Text messages being sent to Kansas voters, including some from Hutchinson, may be misleading, if those people wait until election day to vote.

According to screenshots provided to Democratic Rep. Jason Probst that he forwarded to Hutch Post, the text messages appear to direct voters to the Reno County Annex, which is the correct site for advance voting from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday this week and until 7 p.m on Wednesday. 

The Annex is also the correct site for Saturday voting this weekend from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., but for most Hutchinson voters, that is not where they would vote if they wait until election day itself. 

Most of the Hutchinson precincts vote on election day at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. However, if you don't live in town, or would like to double check where you vote, you can do that at the<a href="https://myvoteinfo.voteks.org/voterview/"> Kansas Secretary of State's VoterView site.</a>

Voting texts may be misleading

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Republican incumbent Rep. Paul Waggoner in the 104th House District is committed to once again keep a close eye on the state budget, should he be elected again to serve.

"Taxes and spending are two sides of the same coin," Waggoner said. "If you keep increasing spending...in the last two years, the state general fund budget has gone from $7.2 billion up to $9.2 billion, it's on an unsustainable trajectory. You need people who are going to push back against that."

Waggoner said it's important not to use the current state finance situation to mask the problems that rapid growth can cause.

"We do have a surplus," Waggoner said. "We're talking about tax cuts and we've done a lot of tax cuts actually in the last two or three years. It's because of earlier legislatures, have actually kept spending below tax revenue and thus you accumulate a surplus."

Waggoner sees Medicaid expansion as an area where the legislature is not going to let the government grow.

"Medicaid expansion is dead in the legislature, for a couple of reasons," Waggoner said. "For the excess cost, for the lack of tangible benefits, for the fact that the spending on it is masked by the fact of, oh it's federal spending. But, federal spending is actually taxpayer funded and in the case of this expansion, it's actually deficit spending finance, which basically means that we're just putting it on a credit card that our children and grandchildren will pay a generation later. I don't see that as being a good value for the people of the 104th."

Waggoner continues to run on smaller government in 104th

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Garth Strand is running as a Democrat for Kansas House District 104 and he is supportive of Medicaid expansion in Kansas.

"I think Medicaid expansion should have been done years ago," Strand said. "It's allowed billions, I think the latest number I have heard is $5 to $6 billion leave the state, tax dollars, federal tax dollars that we've paid in that we can't get back. It needs to be done. There's a large number of state taxpayers who are without coverage for various reasons. They need a safety net. Medicaid expansion can do that."

Strand notes that quite a bit of care is done without payment here locally.

"Our own local hospital is a not-for-profit, so they do provide care to anyone who comes in their door. It's uncompensated care. Talking with the leadership team there, it's costing the hospital, every year, $5 to $6 million. Medicaid expansion would take care of that."

Kansas is one of just a dozen states where the ACA's expansion of Medicaid still has not been implemented as of 2022.

"Something like 70% of Kansans say this should be done," Strand said. "Why aren't we doing it, when 70% of our citizens want something, I think it should be done. Apparently the fear is that, well, it's going to wind up costing us money. My sense is, what the legislature does, the legislature can undo and if it turns out to not be a good program, it can be adjusted, it can be ended, but in the short run, we need to get it done."

The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office promoted Brandon Huntley to the role of captain.

Huntley was a patrol sergeant for the Sheriff’s Office prior to the promotion to captain.

“Brandon is a very intelligent, articulate law enforcement officer. He likes to study things. He likes to be very detailed in the way he does things and the decisions he makes,” said Harvey County Sheriff Chad Gay. “I have 100 percent confidence in him as our patrol captain.”

Huntley has accrued a 22-year career in law enforcement, all in Harvey County. He worked for the Newton Police Department prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in 2007.

“Community trust is essential. I believe this is one of the best places to work – not just the Sheriff’s Office, but Harvey County,” Huntley said. “We have great community support. We have to continue to maintain that and continue to earn trust from people every day.”

Huntley is the commander for the Harvey County Emergency Response Team, guiding the overall direction of the team, including team philosophy, personnel and tactical decisions.

He is also qualified as a Crisis Intervention Team officer, having completed training on how to respond to and approach individuals undergoing a mental health emergency.

Huntley also leads the coordination of training and educational programs for the Sheriff’s Office.

“For me, what this job entails is the vision for the future. We have to constantly adapt. This profession is about adapting,” Huntley said. “It’s about providing the best-trained, the best-experienced law enforcement personnel that this county can offer.”

Huntley fills the position previously held by Mark Hardtarfer. Hardtarfer retired Oct. 28 after 20 years with the Sheriff’s Office, including 11 as chief deputy.

STRATACA gets large state grant for new exhibits

We are in the heart of what has been termed the “silly season of politics.” I know that for many of us voter fatigue has set in, and I have good news and bad news on that front. The good news is that in about a week or less it will all be over. The bad news is that the next cycle is a presidential election, so you have about six months before that gets cranked up. Unfortunately, the sheer volume of campaign ads and fliers turns many of us off or makes us numb to the candidates. I get that but you must fight through the urge to ignore all of it and tune it out. This is one of the most critical elections that we as an ag community have faced and this is a call for all hands on deck. It is true that all votes count but when it comes to agriculture that statement has never been truer. Candidates who support agriculture need your vote. Kansas is becoming increasingly urban and because of that voters in those areas are farther and farther away from agriculture. We are a democracy where the majority rules. Soon we could find ourselves having less of a voice over who represents us and, more importantly, what legislation gets passed. We know laws made in Topeka and Washington D.C. can have huge impacts on how we run our farms and ranches. It is important that we elect representatives that will have our best interests in mind and who understand our business. That is why the work Voters Organized To Elect Farm Bureau Friends does is so important. They take the opinions from the grassroots level and develop a list of candidates who are friendly to agriculture and will keep our best interests in mind. That work is not done in a couple of days but rather in a painstaking process, making sure that all voices are heard. However, that great work doesn’t mean anything if we don’t get out and vote for those candidates. While I would like you to vote for the people on that list, and I ask that you take the time to look at it, I just want you to exercise your right to vote. Historically those of us in rural areas have gotten out at higher levels than our urban counterparts, and that amplifies our voice. Lately, that has not been the case and is a trend we need to reverse. If you are really tired of the noise around the election, go vote now. Advanced voting is open, check with your county clerk to find out how. Then it is done and no matter what happens, your voice is heard. If you are like me and a traditionalist, make sure you get out and vote on Nov. 8. Every vote counts and every vote matters. We have seen it time and time again, even right here in Kansas. Please, look at the list of VOTE FBF endorsed candidates before you make your decision. I cannot stress just how important your vote is. It’s our chance to be a voice for Kansas.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Commissioners will look over a resolution on Tuesday to bring a vote on liquor by the drink back before voters as soon as next year.&nbsp;

The proposal, if approved, would remove the required 30% food sales requirement for liquor by the drink.

Sandhills Brewery had an issue with their liquor license this time around as just weeks before their deadline they had not sold enough food to maintain compliance.&nbsp; Pippin Williamson, owner of Sandhills was before the commission requesting the vote after a herculean effort by the community got enough food purchased for this renewal.

In order to put the question on the ballot in November of 2023, the commission would need to pass language to that effect and that would then need to be approved by the Kansas Secretary of State's office.

It is too close to this year's election for it to be on the 2022 ballot as those have already been printed and advance voting is already underway.

Liquor by the drink resolution to be considered Tuesday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The month of October marked the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. City of Hutchinson Public Works Director Brian Clennan told Hutch Post that the people responsible for keeping Hutchinson's wastewater clean are working hard to do so.

"Right now, our wastewater treatment plant is fully staffed," said Public Works Director Brian Clennan. "Some of those folks have been there a year or under, but we do have some veterans out there, as well. On our sewer collection side, we are short one employee."

Significant work is continuing to be done on the wastewater system in Hutchinson.

"In 2018, we completed a facility planning study for the wastewater treatment facility," Clennan said. "To date, we've completed about $4.5 million of projects out there. We've got another $2.75 million in lift station improvements that we're going to be making throughout the collection system and then another $800,000 project that we're going to be improving out at the head works facility, to improve some of the grit removal, basically replace some of that grit removal equipment that's at the end of its useful life."

To pay for continued improvements, there will be increases on sewer rates coming.

"Probably in late November or early December, I'll be bringing the rate increase resolution to the city council for consideration," Clennan said. "As part of the budget process back in May, the council authorized us to move forward with those rate increases."

The City of Hutchinson Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) is located south of Highway 50 on South Halstead Street.&nbsp;The treatment allows the recycled waste water to be returned to the Arkansas River without harm to aquatic life or the environment.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A local foundation is continuing to raise funds to eradicate bedbugs in Reno County. The Sleep Tight Foundation is holding a fundraiser&nbsp;November 1 at Applebee's.&nbsp;Half of the proceeds of meal purchases will be donated to the Sleep Tight Foundation.

Since 2018, the foundation has been able to fully fund treatment of more than a dozen homes to eradicate bedbugs, but eradication measures can cost anywhere from $500 to up to $2000 depending on the size and scope of the infestation. The drive for 500, an initiative to get families and businesses to donate $10 a month to help, is still looking for donors.

Bedbugs don't care if their environment is clean or dirty. All they need is a warm host and plenty of hiding places.

Sleep Tight Foundation Fundraiser Tuesday at Applebee's

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A new class of firefighter recruits for the Hutchinson Fire Department finished their initial training this past week. The eight week class started in September.

HFD protects 50,000 residents and covers 108 square miles encompassing the City of Hutchinson and suburban and rural Reno County Fire District #2.

HFD has 89 uniformed members and 1 civilian employee and operates 6 engine companies, 2 truck companies, and Crossman 10 brush trucks, 2 water tenders, 2 reserve engines, and a heavy rescue trailer from 6 strategically located fire stations.

The Recruit Academy consists of courses designed to review IFSAC and the NFPA Standard 1001, Firefighter I and II skills, Hazardous Materials Operations skills, Kansas Emergency Medical Technician skills, and HFD policies and procedures. 

Recruits are tested and evaluated weekly throughout the process on both written and practical skills, and are given both a final written exam and a practical skills test. Recruits must pass all exams with a minimum score of 70%.

Firefighters are required to work 24-hour shift assignments - living, eating, and sleeping at the station for the entire period (including weekends and holidays), and may be required to work overtime with little or no notice.&nbsp;

Firefighters work 10 days per month with 4 consecutive days off occurring 3-4 times per month. The schedule then repeats.

Firefighter academy finishes initial training

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Woodwork Mfg. Co., Inc was founded in 1925, incorporated by H.A. Nichols, B.F. Nichols, H.L. Steed and W.E. Kissick at 4 S. Walnut in Hutchinson, just across from the Jess E. Liston Tire Company.

The Company motto was: “If it can be made of wood, we can do it.”&nbsp;

The company operated as a planning mill and did custom millwork of all types, including the manufacture of all the wood items in the J.S. Dillon stores, which at the time included all of the wall display shelving, island shelving, check stands, water spray produce counters, wood interior décor, etc.

In 2015, E. Jay Schrock decided it was time to hand over the reins of the company to his two children, Jeff P. Schrock and Teresa J. Schrock-Wagner. On March 31, 2016, after dedicating the last 56 years of his life to Woodwork Mfg. &amp; Supply, E. Jay Schrock officially retired as president. He still serves on the Board of Directors and his leadership will forever be an important part of the Woodwork legacy.

Woodwork manufactures moldings, doors, windows, stair systems and just about any type of custom work needed, whether it be small or large. Moldings and doors are a major component of Woodwork Mfg. 

The company can make wood or metal door frames and moldings to trim projects. One of the more unique aspects of Woodwork is its ability to match any type of molding, whether it be a new design or something more than 100 years old.

The company manufactures its own cutting tools that are designed out of plexiglass. That jig is placed into a machine. A knife is made to match and used to cut the new molding. This also allows the company to match anything new or old. The company can also match any type of finish a customer may have, even if it is a small project.

It’s one of the major advantages Woodwork has over other companies. Small and large contractors can take advantage of custom work.&nbsp;

Woodwork stores its unfinished product on-site. The wood is prime rated and is inspected in an indoor storage area before it is moved to a particular area, depending on when it will be used. 

Once a production run is ready, machines are set up to mill the lumber for its intended use, whether it be trim molding or a frame for doors. The company can even design stair railings.

Once the moldings or trim are cut, they are assembled for their intended use and then finished.

🎥 A Day In The Life: Woodwork Manufacturing & Supply

HUTCHINSON, Kan. —&nbsp;Halloween is supposed to be scary fun for both kids and parents, but real dangers, like pedestrian accidents can be a scary reality if precautions are not taken.

"Kids under age 12 should not be crossing the streets alone on Halloween," said Cherie Sage with Safe Kids Kansas. "They definitely need to have either an adult or a responsible older teenager with them. Cognitively, developmentally, kids under that age are really not mature enough to be out after hours alone. If you do have older kids or your kids are going out with that older teenager, have that conversation with them. Know what the plan is. What neighborhoods are they going to go to? It's best if those neighborhoods are familiar to them."

If sending kids out with an older teen, they should have a cell phone, but not necessarily use it much, unless there is an emergency.

"It's also really important to remind them that they need to pay attention to their surroundings," Sage said. "This is true especially when they are crossing a street or even just walking down a sidewalk that might have driveways that someone's pulling in and out of."

On average, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a vehicle and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Once they get home safely, it's also important to have parents take a look in the child's bag before they dig in.

"You should check sweets before kids are allowed to eat them," Sage said. "You should only eat treats that are in original, unopened wrappers, or that come from the home of someone that you know. If you go by your aunt's house and she has those infamous popcorn balls, that's okay, that's someone that you know."

Popular trick or treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., so be especially alert for kids during those hours. Sunset on Halloween is just after 6:30 p.m., so much of that time will be after dark.

Safe Kids: Be careful this Halloween

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — To celebrate Cosmosphere’s 60th birthday and honor the 50th anniversary of Apollo 17, Cosmosphere is planning a gala event featuring a group of ten astronauts and NASA Mission Control veterans. It's just a little more than a month away.

"December 2 is our 60th anniversary gala and it's going to be a phenomenal event," said Cosmosphere CEO Jim Remar. "We're bringing in luminaries, such as Gene Kranz and Gerry Griffin, flight directors. We're bringing in Fred Haise from Apollo 13, Charlie Duke, Apollo 16, Harrison Schmitt, Apollo 17, Shuttle astronauts Jeff Ashby and Steve Hawley. This will be an opportunity for Cosmosphere and the community to celebrate 60 wonderful years."

The event will take place December 2, 2022, 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Meadowlark Building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. Tickets are on sale to the public now and are expected to sell out.

Total tickets are a little less than half gone, though the tickets for the most expensive Artemis package are down to just 55 available as of Saturday morning.

"It's going to be an incredible evening December 2nd," Remar said. "Then Saturday, the day after, we're going to be doing a book signing with Fred Haise. Fred wanted to do five book signings and Cosmosphere was one of those five and it will be the culminating signing event for him."

First and Last Steps: Celebrating  Time and Space event Dec. 2

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 1 Hutchinson overcame a slow start Saturday night against Highland (2-7, 1-6) to remain perfect on the season.&nbsp;

Hutchinson missed a couple of opportunities early, namely when reigning offensive player of the week Treymon Echols dropped a sure-touchdown pass from Dylan Laible in the first quarter.

Echols had the defense beat and dropped the ball.&nbsp;

The game was scoreless after one quarter.&nbsp;

The Dragons (8-0, 5-0) finally got on the board early in the second quarter on a Dylan Kedzior one-yard rush.&nbsp;

The score came after a Walter Bob Jr. interception. The defensive lineman stepped in front of a screen pass and returned the ball to the Highland 28. Hutchinson used six plays to take the 7-0 advantage.

Less than five minutes later, the Dragons got on the board again after a one-yard run. This time, quarterback Dylan Laible powered forward for just his third career rushing touchdown, his second in as many weeks.

For just the second time this season, however, Laible was also intercepted. A third-quarter shot to the end zone was intercepted by Travis McNichols.

Hutchinson took a 14-0 advantage into the locker room thanks to a defensive stand to end the second frame. Highland marched down to the Dragon one and faced 3rd and 1 before Rodney Roane tackled running back Kason Jones for a three-yard loss.

Highland called timeout with just one second left before the break. On 4th and 1, holder Grant Sillyman mishandled the snap and ran for his life around the left side of the defense. Ja'Mez Drummer quickly stopped Sillyman in his tracks and the half came to a close.

"What a great stop at the end of the first half," Drew Dallas said of his defense.

"Highland's played a lot of people tough this year," Dallas said. "They're doing some really good things schematically."

Highland is under first-year head coach Jared Powers. While Powers has concern for his team's depth, he knows his first-string players have the ability to match anybody in the conference, or the NJCAA for that matter.

The Scotties lost to current-No. 2 Iowa Western 24-7, a score much closer than poll voters expected of a team that began the season 0-5. The Scotties lost to Garden City 14-6 before winning two of their last three games.

Hutchinson opened things up enough in the second half to allow Dylan Laible more time off. The Dragons career leader in touchdown passes has enjoyed the luxury of calling it a day in his last three outings.

Laible threw 14 0f 28 for 150 yards with one TD and one INT. He was sacked three times.

"Not pretty by our standards," Dallas said of the first half. But he credited his coaching staff for making the necessary adjustments.

Dallas said some of the adjustments came up front with the offensive line. The line had cleared a path in the last four games for running back Dylan Kedzior. In those four contests, Kedzior ran for 578 yards. He was bottled up for 66 yards Saturday, but still managed to find the end zone. He now has a five-game touchdown streak.

Tim Byrd Jr. finally found some running room in the fourth quarter. After the game was in hand, Byrd Jr. broke off a 64-yard run to the Highland seven. He took the ball to pay dirt the very next play to finish the day with 110 yards rushing on six carries.

Hutchinson built a 24-0 advantage in the second half thanks to a Micah Woods 30-yard touchdown snag from Laible and a 39-yard Cole Segraves field goal.

Highland found the end zone with 1:24 to play when quarterback Tysan Robbins found Ja'Vonte Williams for the 20-yard score. Robbins finished 17 of 34 with the one TD and two INTs. He was sacked twice. Williams caught six passes for 101 yards and the score.

The Dragons captured the KJCCC conference title for the third straight season with the win. And the 10th time in it's 90 year history.

Hutchinson has now won 14 games straight, dating back to last season. This is the second-longest winning streak in program history, tied with a run from 1968-1970.Hutchinson is 24-0 against Highland all-time in Gowans Stadium.

The Dragon defense allowed just 69 rushing yards, but surrendered 247 passing yards. Highland put the ball on the turf six times, but Hutchinson only capitalized on two opportunities. The Dragons came away with two interceptions (Walter Bob Jr. and Terrente Hinton).

Hutchinson returns home next Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Independence (3-4, 2-2). The Pirates were on a bye week Saturday.
