HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Mayor Jon Richardson said Monday that the next steps in the police chief search are coming this month.
"We're looking at mid-July," Richardson said. "We'll have, I believe, around four finalists to interview in person, to look at taking on that role. A decision will be made from there."
If it turns out to be an outside hire, moving that person to Hutchinson will take some time, too.
"I would think, if you're interviewing mid-July, you're looking at another month or month and a half, so later in August, Labor Day weekend time period."
The city's police department has around 80 employees, and according to recruiting materials, an adopted budget of more than $12.56 million this fiscal year.
