Hutchinson Community College freshman guard Kiki Smith earned her second Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week award of the season on Tuesday.&nbsp;

Smith notched her third 20-point game of the season and led the No. 11 Blue Dragons to a pair of victories over Cloud County at Cowley to end the first semester. &nbsp;

The freshman guard from Topeka averaged 21.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.5 blocked shots last week. She shot 51.4 percent from the floor. Smith scored 26 points in a 27-point road win at Cloud County. &nbsp;

She was two rebounds shy of her first double-double with 17 points and eight rebounds against Cowley at the Sports Arena. &nbsp;

Averaging 18.3 points per game this season, Smith is fourth in scoring in the KJCCC.&nbsp;

Smith also won the league award on November 14.

Zoo light show final weekend coming up

The final two teams not to suffer a Jayhawk Conference loss this season do battle at the Hutchinson Sports Arena on Saturday night as the pre-Christmas schedule wraps up.

The No. 19-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team (10-1, 5-0 KJCCC) squares off against the No. 11 Cowley Tigers (11-1, 6-0) at 7:30 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) with Glen Grunwald (PBP) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. The game will be streamed live and free on the Blue Dragon Sports Network. The broadcasts begin at 7:15 p.m.

Hutchinson plays its second nationally ranked opponent this season. The Blue Dragons defeated then-No. 23 NEO 102-84 on Nov. 4 at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons have won six games in a row since its only loss of the season. Hutchinson extended the current win streak after a gutsy 82-73 win on Wednesday at Cloud County.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2023-24/bios/simon_valentino_8svq">Valentino Simon</a>&nbsp;has posted two-straight double-doubles, going for season highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds in the victory over the Thunderbirds. Sophomore Dre Weathers added a career-high 20 points in the victory. The Blue Dragons blocked 13 shots against the T-Birds, including a career-best seven rejections from freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2023-24/bios/daniel_edwin_trsy">Edwin Daniel</a>.

Hutchinson has 25 blocks in its last two games, led by Daniel's 13 blocks in the last two games.

Like the Blue Dragons, the Cowley Tigers started the season out of the national rankings. Cowley has reeled off nine-consecutive victories, including a huge road win over then-No. 6 Barton in Great Bend. Cowley vaulted all the way to No. 11 in the latest NJCAA Division I Men's rankings.

The Tigers won their ninth-straight game on Wednesday with a 76-55 victory at Dodge City. Corey Thomas had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Tigers, who held the Conquistadors to 29-percent shooting.

Besides being atop the Jayhawk Conference standings heading into Saturday, the Blue Dragons and Tigers have one other thing in common this season. The only team to defeat both Hutchinson and Cowley is NOC-Tonkawa.

After Saturday's game, the Blue Dragons will have a 25-day holiday hiatus. Hutchinson returns with a nationally ranked road battle on January 3 at Butler.

Hutchinson held its seventh opponent this season to less than 30-percent shooting, limiting Cloud County to 27.9 percent from the field.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wbkb/2023-24/bios/smith_kiki_x1vf">Kiki Smith</a>&nbsp;reached the 20-point mark for the third time this season with 26 points and the Blue Dragons shot 47.0 percent, turning the ball over only nine times in the victory over Cloud County.

Of the top nine best starts in program history, five of those seasons have been coached by John Ontjes.

Cowley started the season 7-0, but have dropped five games in a row entering Saturday evening. The Tigers (7-5, 1-5) dropped a 69-51 decision at No. 15 Dodge City on Wednesday. Cowley is playing through a rugged stretch of games in its schedule. The Tigers have also lost to No. 21 Coffeyville and No. 25 Barton.

The Tigers were stung by 12 Dodge City 3-pointers on Wednesday. Anna Przyszlak had 17 points and eight rebounds to pace Cowley. Jaiden Smith came off the bench to add 10 points.

Saturday's matchup will be the 56th in series history with the Tigers. Hutchinson owns a 31-24 series advantage, including 14-6 at the Sports Arena. The teams split home matches last season. Cowley won the first game 55-49 in Arkansas City, but the Blue Dragons returned the favor with a 91-70 victory over the Tigers at the Sports Arena.

Margaret Ellen Herriman, 86, died December 6, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born June 4, 1937, in Warsaw, MO, to Irvin Bradshaw and Mary (Soles) Bradshaw.

Margaret was a 1955 graduate of Hutchinson High School. &nbsp;She graduated from Hutchinson Community College and attended one year of college at Ottawa University. &nbsp;Margaret was a homemaker and was heavily involved in her children’s activities, such as, Parent Teachers Organization, Girl and Boy Scout Troops, and Sing Out Reno County. &nbsp;She was a member of Countryside Baptist Church, Hutchinson, and provided leadership in the church’s youth and music programs.

On September 2, 1956, Margaret married John Vincent Herriman at First Baptist Church, Hutchinson. They shared over 67 years of marriage.

Margaret is survived by: her husband, John Vincent Herriman of Hutchinson; children, Dale Herriman and Andrea (Robert) Rockey, both of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Betty (Frank) Steffen of Burrton, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Brenda Herriman.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary with Pastor Ron Kyker officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. &nbsp;Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, December 10, 2023, with the family present from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Boys and Girls Club has announced their local winner for the 2024 Youth of the Year.

Zion Burgess won the award for the second straight year at the local level. The award was announced at the local event in the Crystal Ballroom at the Burt on Thursday.

The Youth of the Year title is a prestigious honor bestowed upon an exemplary young person in recognition of leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle.

Burgess receives a $1,000 college scholarship thanks to Heartland Credit Union and will compete in the Kansas Youth of the Year competition in the spring. He was 2nd at the state level in 2023.

Burgess is 2024 Youth of the Year

Robert LeRoy Wiegand, 62, of South Hutchinson, KS, died December 2, 2023, at his home. He was born July 10, 1961, in Denver, CO, to LeRoy R. and Helena A. (Thiele) Wiegand.

Robert graduated from Beloit High School and North Central Kansas Technical College with a degree in electronics. He was the owner of Advantage Siding &amp; Windows. Robert loved hunting and fishing, and was an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers and Kansas City Chiefs fan and followed NASCAR racing as well. Robert’s other interests included riding his Harley Davidson and participating in league and tournament pool play. He also embraced golf later in life and enjoyed Wii bowling and solving crossword and cryptoquip puzzles.

Robert lived life in the moment and to the fullest. He was always there to help anyone in need and gave generously of his time and talents.

Robert was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, where he served for 10 years most recently as the American Legion Riders Road Captain. &nbsp;He was the recipient of the Kansas American Legion Rider Excellence Award in 2022, served as Auxiliary President of the Bob Campbell VFW Post #1361, and as former Vice-chair of the South Hutch Planning Commission.

Robert is survived by: his daughter, Ceress Sanders (Sammy) of Newberg, OR, and their children, Lenora and Theodore; sister, Roberta Schonher (Alan) of Castle Rock, CO, and their children, Paige Schonher of Littleton, CO, and Wade Schonher of Highlands Ranch, CO, and many extended family members.

Rosary will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Elliott Chapel, with the family present to receive friends until 8 p.m.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Elliott Chapel.&nbsp;

The service will be livestreamed and the link below to view it will be available beginning at 9:45 a.m. the day of the service.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Arley Bryant Gym in Concordia.

With victories over Independence and Pratt last week, the Blue Dragons have climbed to No. 19 in the latest NJCAA Division I national rankings.

Hutchinson improved to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the Jayhawk Conference.

The Blue Dragons are leading the nation in steals this season. Hutchinson is averaging 15.8 steals per game, forcing an average of 25.7 turnovers per game. The Dragons have six games of 10 or more steals this season. The Blue Dragons are also tied for 13th in the NJCAA with 6.2 blocked shots per game. The Dragons come off a game against Pratt with 12 blocked shots - six alone from&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2023-24/bios/daniel_edwin_trsy">Edwin Daniel</a>. The 12 blocked shots tied for eighth most in program single-game history,

The Blue Dragons head to a place on Wednesday where they have lost 3 of the last four games.

Last season in Concordia, the Blue Dragons were limited to a season-low offensive output to that point in the season in a 90-75 loss to the Thunderbirds. The Dragons avenged that setback with an 88-82 win over Cloud County at the Sports Arena.

Cloud County's signature win to this point in the season with a 20-point victory at Coffeyville on November 21 (63-43). The Thunderbirds climbed to No. 24 in the national rankings after that victory.

Since then, the Thunderbirds have dropped 2 of 3 games, including an 89-87 loss on Saturday at Dodge City.

Sophomore Ja'Ron Briggs Jr. is Cloud County's leading scorer at 15.0 points per game. Four players average in double figures for the Thunderbirds.

The Blue Dragons have two more games before the holiday break starting Wednesday with a road trip to play Cloud County.

Tipoff at Arley Bryant Gym is at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) at 5:45 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Daren Dunn (color) calling the action. Off to a 10-0 start and 4-0 in Jayhawk Conference play, the Blue Dragons climbed to No. 11 in this week's NJCAA rankings. The Blue Dragons face Cloud County on Wednesday and play host to Cowley at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday to close out the first semester.

The Blue Dragons earned their sixth 10-0 start to a season under head coach John Ontjes with a decisive 98-47 victory on Saturday over the Pratt Beavers.

Hitting eight 3-point goals in the first half, the Blue Dragons raced out to a 49-20 lead at halftime.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2023-24/bios/jackson_hailey_x66o">Hailey Jackson</a>&nbsp;led a balanced Blue Dragon offensive attack with 17 points.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2023-24/bios/smith_kiki_x1vf">Kiki Smith</a>&nbsp;had 14 points and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2023-24/bios/armstead_journey_w1mg">Journey Armstead</a>&nbsp;had 12 points.

The Blue Dragons posted their fourth 60-rebound game of the season in out-rebounding Pratt 66-31.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2023-24/bios/duffy_monae_og8s">Monae Duffy</a>&nbsp;had 15 rebounds and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2023-24/bios/horyna_bree_rg28">Bree Horyna</a>&nbsp;had 12 boards.

Cloud County started the season going 5-1 in the non-conference portion of the schedule and are 2-3 in KJCCC play with wins over Seward County and Garden City.

The Thunderbirds, who are 6-1 at the Thunderdome this season, enter Wednesday's game coming off a 75-55 loss at No. 15 Dodge City.

Maimouna Sissoko had 27 points and 18 rebounds in the loss to the Conquistadors. The Thunderbirds were held to 34.8 percent overall shooting and turned the ball over 23 times against Dodge City.

Sissoko is Cloud County's leading scorer at 17.8 points and is the second-leading rebounder in the KJCCC at 12.7 rebounds per game.

Last season, Sissoko had 22 points and 10 rebounds in Cloud's 76-65 win at Concordia. She was limited to two points and one rebound in nine minutes in the Dragons 75-56 win two months later at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons are 7-3 in their last 10 trips to Concordia.

Marjorie A. Belt, 91, died December 1, 2023, at her home. She was born May 26, 1932, in Hutchinson, to Raymond C. and Neva (Arwood) Belt.

Marjorie graduated from Buhler High School in 1951, then from Salt City Business College. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family competitively playing cards and dominoes. During the warm seasons, Marjorie loved to care for her garden. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, and aunt.

Marjorie was a member of Bethany Nazarene Church, in Hutchinson.

She is survived by: nephews, Richard Belt, and Roger (Randi) Belt, of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Evelyn Belt, of Hutchinson; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Raymond E. and Richard Lee Belt; and niece-in-law, Susie Belt.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Gary Getting officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Elliott Mortuary.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce is continuing its December work with the Annual Meeting on Monday on the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

"We're going to have a great speaker," said Chamber CEO Debra Teufel. "Retired Lt. Col Scott Mann. He was part of what was called Pineapple Express. You'll hear all about his experience and his military career."

The event will kick off at 3:45 p.m. in Sunflower South with a sponsor expo that is open to the public. Doors will open for dinner at 6 p.m. Then, next on the docket is the Chamber's monthly membership breakfast on Wednesday, Dec. 13.

"It is the membership breakfast where we honor all of our community benefit organizations, the non-profits in the community that help really serve the community in a philanthropic way," Teufel said. "The inspiring speaker that we have to honor them is Julia Fabris McBride, who was one of the co-authors of the book that was released this year, When Everyone Leads, co-authored with Ed O'Malley."

That event will be from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Dec. 13 at the Sand Hills Event Center at 4601 North Plum.

The chamber also is looking ahead to the 2024 legislative session to consider what priorities might be needed for growth in the area.

"We have been meeting with KDOT, specifically about transportation dollars that would help enhance the K-96 and Highway 50 corridor to serve this as an industrial site," Teufel said. "That will definitely be part of our agenda. We have the opportunity to meet with all of our state legislators on Dec. 11 at a meeting at Hutchinson Community College, we always appreciate that&nbsp;Hutchinson Community College coordinates that day."

The 2024 legislative session will start in the second week of January.

Chamber continuing work as year comes down the stretch

The No. 21-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team used a huge first-half performance to cruise to their fifth-consecutive victory on Saturday night.

Six players scored in double figures as Hutchinson shot 50 percent in the opening a 25-point lead by halftime and the Blue Dragons defeated the Pratt Beavers 103-87 at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons improved to 9-1 overall and remained unbeaten in Jayhawk Conference play at 4-0. Hutchinson travels to Cloud County on Wednesday in Concordia. Pratt fell to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the KJCCC.

The Blue Dragons hit seven first-half 3-point goals and were 23 of 46 overall in building a 63-38 victory at halftime. Pratt was just 10 of 28 shooting (38.5 percent), but stayed within sigh of the Dragons hitting 18 of 25 from the free-throw line.

Thomas was 3 of 5 from 3-point range.

The Blue Dragons racked up a season-high 18 steals in forcing 30 Beaver turnovers. Bundy and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2023-24/bios/branch_russell_x8m5">Russell Branch</a>&nbsp;had four steals each to lead the Dragons.

Kayvontay Williams had 28 points and nine rebounds to lead Pratt. He was 10 of 13 from the field and 8 of 10 from the line. Justin Robinson had 15 points, going 13 of 14 from the foul line.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team dominated from start to finish in a 98-47 win over the Pratt Beavers on Saturday evening at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson (10-0, 4-0 KJCCC) finished with four players in double-figure scoring, led by Hailey Jackson with 17, Kiki Smith 14, Journey Armstead 12 and Madi Denison 11.

The Blue Dragons led 21-10 after the first quarter before another strong second quarter in which HutchCC outscored the Beavers, 28-10 to lead 49-20 at halftime.

Hutchinson held the Beavers to 20 percent shooting and held its leading scorer, Princess Anderson (26 points per game average) to 18 on 3-for-17 shooting from the floor.&nbsp;

The Blue Dragons outrebounded the Beavers, 66-31, the plus-35 margin is the largest of the season.&nbsp;

Pratt (6-4, 1-4) never held a lead in the game, as Hutchinson led by as many as 54 in the fourth quarter.

Monae Duffy led the Blue Dragon rebounding with 15 boards, while also scoring eight points. Bree Horyna had seven points and brought down 12 rebounds.

Hutchinson scored 56 points in the paint, while limiting the Beavers to 16.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. —&nbsp;The Hutchinson Community College football team's bid to return to the NJCAA National Championship game came up short on Saturday at Gowans Stadium.

No. 4 East Mississippi scored a go-ahead touchdown with 52 seconds to play in the fourth quarter as the Lions upended the No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons 27-23.

The Blue Dragons close the 2023 season at 10-1. East Mississippi (10-2) advances to play the Iowa Western/Kilgore winner in the NJCAA Championship game on December 13 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Blue Dragons took a 23-20 lead on&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/burger_nestus_4g08">Nestus Burger</a>'s 44-yard field goal with 1:42 to play in the third quarters. Hutchinson's defense turned East Mississippi away on its first three possessions of the final quarter.

The Lions started their final drive of the game on their own 12 with 3:57 to play. EMCC marched 88 yards on eight plays, converting a pair of third downs on the drive. East Mississippi had the game's fifth-lead change of the game when Cam Wright caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Ty Keyes with 52 seconds to play, giving the Lions a 27-23 lead.

Hutchinson's final drive ended with four incomplete passes.

<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/reed_jr._tyrell_3b4y">Tyrell Reed Jr.</a>&nbsp;rushed for a game-high 124 rushing yards on 20 carries with a 37-yard touchdown to lead the Blue Dragons. Hutchinson rushed for 208 yards as a team.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/epton_jr._brandon_rwxf">Brandon Epton Jr.</a>&nbsp;had 39 yards on 13 carries and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/jordan_jr._waymond_79fo">Waymond Jordan Jr.</a>&nbsp;had 34 yards on six carries.

Blue Dragon quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/collier_samari_cpv0">Samari Collier</a>&nbsp;was 7 of 22 passing for 113 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He was also sacked three times.

<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/beason_zerah_m1gv">Zeriah Beason</a>&nbsp;had three receptions for 48 yards. Oran Singleton had two catches for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Linebacker&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/sherman_k-von_986x">K'Von Sherman</a>&nbsp;led the Hutchinson defense with a career-high 14 tackles that included a quarterback sack. Jermain Hamilton-Jordan had a career-high nine tackles.

Defensive end&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/brown_daniel_a1x7">Daniel Brown</a>&nbsp;extended his streak of consecutive games with a sack to 11 with a fourth-quarter sack. Brown closes the season with 18.5 sacks, which is No. 2 on Hutchinson's single-season list and ties Marquavious Lewis (2013-14) for sixth on Hutchinson's career sacks list.

Hutchinson had 322 total yards to East Mississippi's 324 yards (190 rushing, 134 passing). Keyes threw for three touchdowns, completing 14 of 32 passes for 124 yards and an interception to lead East Mississippi. Running back Kiron Benjamin had 107 yards on eight carries. Wright had five catches for 91 yards and three touchdowns.

The Blue Dragons scored the first points of the game when Burger kicked a 39-yard field goal with 10:45 to play in the opening quarter for a 3-0 lead. About four minutes later after a Hutchinson fumble gave EMCC the ball at the Hutchinson 29, Keyes and Wright hooked up for a 29-yard touchdown pass and the Lions led 7-3 with 6:33 to play in the first quarter.

Hutchinson reclaimed the lead at 10-7 after Reed's 37-yard touchdown run with 1:15 to play in the opening quarter. EMCC parlayed a 73-yard run by Benjamin with a 3-yard touchdown run by Ty Cromwell with 2 seconds to play in the period for a 14-10 Lion lead.

The only points of the second quarter was a Burger 20-yard field goal with 8:36 to play. The Blue Dragons trailed at halftime 14-13.

The Blue Dragons struck fast with the first possession of the third quarter. Singleton caught a 60-yard touchdown from Collier just 50 seconds into the period and the Dragons led 20-14. The Lions tied the game after a 16-play, 78-yard scoring drive that was capped by Wright's 4-yard touchdown reception with 7:59 to play in the quarter.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/bob_jr._walter_mtg8">Walter Bob Jr.</a>&nbsp;blocked the extra point and the game was tied at 20-20.

Hutchinson's go-ahead field goal was set up by a bizarre play, Burger lined up for a 47-yard field goal, but it was blocked.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/saili_danny_rmkt">Danny Saili</a>&nbsp;picked up the loose ball behind the line of scrimmage and rumbled to the EMCC 22 to keep the possession alive. Four plays later, Burger connected on a 44-yard field goal for a 23-20 Dragon lead with 1:42 to play in the third quarters.

In its storied history, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team owns more victories over the Pratt Beavers (151) than any single opponent.

Last year Pratt earned a rare win at the Sports Arena - only its 12th in 81 games in Hutchinson - a 130-126 overtime victory over the Blue Dragons.

No. 21 Hutchinson (8-1, 3-0 KJCCC) looks to avenge that home loss on Wednesday when the Blue Dragons play host to the Beavers at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons won their fourth game in a row on Wednesday with a season-high offensive output in a 108-89 victory at Independence.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2023-24/bios/holman_zoe_o8t4">Zoe Holman</a>&nbsp;scored a career-high 23 points to lead five Blue Dragons scoring in double figures.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2023-24/bios/smith_kobe_csmn">Kobe Smith</a>&nbsp;added a career-best 16 points as Hutchinson broke the game open with a 23-8 run over the final 6 1/2 minutes of the first half to pull away for an 18th-straight victory over the Pirates.

The victory was Blue Dragon head coach Tommy DeSalme's 450th career coaching victory.

Blue Dragon sophomore forward continues to lead the Jayhawk Conference and is ninth in the NJCAA in field-goal percentage at 72.3 percent. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2023-24/bios/thomas_kamryn_j9zm">Kamryn Thomas</a>&nbsp;is second in the Jayhawk in 3-point efficiency at 48.3 percent.

Pratt (3-5, 1-3 KJCCC) lost its first three Jayhawk Conference games this season, but earned league win No. 1 on Wednesday with a 79-67 home victory over Dodge City. Deon McLaughlin was 7 of 7 shooting with a 3-pointer to lead four Pratt players in double figures with 17 points. Caleb Smith added 15 points.

Pratt's Kayvontay Williams is the KJCCC's fifth-leading scorer at 18.0 points per game and is fifth in field-goal percentage at 58.1 percent.

Saturday's game is the 180th all-time meeting between Hutchinson and Pratt. The Blue Dragons lead the all-time series 151-28.

Sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) will join the broadcast after the completion of Blue Dragon Football at Gowans Stadium. The Blue Dragon Sports Network will stream the game live beginning at 5:15 p.m.

Since John Ontjes became head coach before the 2007-08 season, the Blue Dragons have started a season 10-0 five times and have had win streaks or at least 10 games 14 different times.

Pratt (6-3, 1-3) enters play on Saturday after dropping a 90-88 decision at No. 15 Dodge City on Wednesday. The Beavers trailed by nine points with just more than a minute to play and made it a one-possession game and had the last possession of the game.

The Blue Dragons bid for their 18th consecutive victory over Pratt. Last season Hutchinson defeated the Beavers 74-57 and 88-57. Pratt hasn't won a game in the series on the floor since 2008 - the Beavers received two forfeit wins in 2015 - and hasn't won at the Sports Arena since 2004.
