INDEPENDENCE, Kan. — The No. 14-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team continued its unbeaten season with a 73-48 win over the Independence Pirates on Wednesday evening.
Hutchinson (9-0, 3-0 KJCCC) outscored the Pirates, 20-8 in the second quarter to create some separation after leading by two after the first frame.
Kiki Smith poured in a game-high 18 points to lead the Blue Dragons. Monae Duffy scored added 17, while Hailey Jackson had 16. Journey Armstead also scored in double figures with 12.
The Blue Dragons finished with 21 assists on 30 made field goals, and committed 11 turnovers to 23 for the Pirates.
Independence (5-4, 0-4) had one player in double figures, Jasirae Vick with 14.
Hutchinson will host Pratt on Saturday at the Sports Arena for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff against the Beavers.
