Following one of her best single-game performances of her Blue Dragon career, Hutchinson Community College sophomore Karsyn Slothower was named the KJCCC Division I Goalkeeper of the Week for the first time this season.

In her only game last week, Slothower was instrumental to leading the No. 16 Blue Dragons to a 0-0 draw with No. 8 Butler last Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Slothower, a sophomore from Maize, made 11 saves against the Grizzlies, including four diving saves to keep the game scoreless.

Slothower’s performance against Butler gives her 146 career saves, which moved her past Carly McArthur (140) into second place on the Blue Dragons career saves list. This was also the second time Slothower surpassed the 10-save mark in a single game.

This is the second-straight week a Blue Dragon goalkeeper earned KJCCC weekly honors. Last week, freshman Marina Lopez earned conference honors. Slothower is the fourth Blue Dragon this season to win conference honors.

Slothower has now won four KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week awards in her Blue Dragon career.

Barbara Ann Morris, 85, of Hutchinson, died October 12, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. She was born January 12, 1939, in Hutchinson, to Viron and Charlotte (Rampenthal) Rucker.&nbsp;

Barbara graduated from Hutchinson High School with the class of 1957. Then, she attended Sterling College and graduated summa cum laude in 1974. Barbara went on to obtain her master’s in reading at Wichita State University. With all the knowledge she acquired, Barbara went on to teach many generations of first graders, beginning at Elreka Grade School and then later retired from Buhler Grade School.

She loved to square dance and was a proud member of the American Legion Axillary, which she joined with her late husband.&nbsp;

On May 24, 1958, Barbara married James W. Morris in Hutchinson. They shared 47 years of marriage before his death on December 8, 2005.&nbsp;

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Terri and husband Stan Oyler of Hutchinson and grandson Kyle (Jessica) Oyler of Wichita.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Viron and Charlotte Rucker; her husband, James Morris; and her brother Charles Rucker.&nbsp;

Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to American Heart Association or First United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Last week Blue Dragon women's soccer established a new program record for consecutive weeks in the national rankings. This week, they extended that record with their 17th-straight appearance in the poll. The previous record was 15 consecutive weeks in the poll in 2009 and 2010.

The No. 16 rung on the Top 20 ladder is the highest the Dragons have been ranked this season and the highest the Dragons have reached in the national rankings since earning a No. 14 mark early in 2023.

The KJCCC continues to have four teams in the Top 20. Led by Kansas City (11-0-4) at No. 7 and Butler (10-1-4) at No. 8, Cowley (8-3-1) is No. 15 this week, a drop of four spots, and then the Blue Dragons.

Navarro holds the No. 1 spot for the fourth-straight week. Iowa Western, Seminole State and Arizona Western maintain spots 2, 3 and 4. Snow College makes a five-spot jump in the rankings to No. 5 this week.

⚽ Blue Dragons remain No. 16 in NJCAA rankings

The Hutchinson Community College football team is just one of two remaining defeated teams in NJCAA Division I Football.

Following a 48-7 victory at Independence on Saturday, the Blue Dragons maintained the top spot in the NJCAA national rankings for the sixth-straight week.

The next two weeks will be challenging for the Blue Dragons with back-to-back nationally ranked opponents. Hutchinson (6-0) travels to No. 12 Coffeyville (4-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday and then return to Gowans Stadium on October 26 to meet No. 13 Butler.

The Dragons are 3-0 against ranked opponents this season.

This is the 41st consecutive poll the Dragons have been ranked, which is the second-longest run in the rankings in program history. The Blue Dragon record for consecutive weeks ranked in the polls is 45, which was set from 2010 to 2013.

This is the sixth time the Blue Dragons have been ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA polls in program history. The Dragons have been ranked No. 1 in 35 of the past 61 polls and have been ranked in the nation’s Top 3 for 36 consecutive polls.

Hutchinson and Iowa Western stayed at Nos. 1 and 2 in this week’s rankings. Former No. 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast lost last week and fell to No. 7. Georgia Military is now No. 3, Snow is No. 4 and Garden City jumps into the Top 5 at No. 5.

Holmes Community College is the other unbeaten team in the nation and is No. 6.

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico — The No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team had a strong rebound round Monday afternoon with a 4-under-par 284 and is now sixth after 36 holes of the Herb Wimberly Memorial Invitational at New Mexico State University.

The Blue Dragons shot a 5-over par 293 in Monday’s opening round, but trimmed nine strokes off that mark in the afternoon round to shoot a 36-hole total of 577.

The Dragons trail tournament leader New Mexico State by 28 strokes after the Aggies shot rounds of 273 and 276 and are 19-under par at 549.

NJCAA No. 1-ranked Midland is second at 561 (280-281). No. 3 Odessa is fourth at 573 (288-285). KJCCC rival Garden City is eighth after two rounds at 583 (291-292).

Sophomore Charlie Box was the low Blue Dragon golfer in the opening round  at 1-under 71. The Dragons also counted scores from Jack Northgraves (73), Jaydon Carruthers (74) and Louis Ross (75).

Northgraves led the afternoon charge for the Dragons with a 2-under 70. Box and Ross both carded 71s and Carruthers shot even-par 72 in the afternoon round.

Individually, Box is tied for 15th at 2-under 142 (71-71). Northgraves is tied for 19th at 143 (73-70). Carruthers (74-72) and Ross (75-71) are tied for 38th at 146.

Sophomore David Razinskas is tied for 64th at 151 after Monday rounds of 75 and 76.

The final round begins at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday at University Golf Course in Las Cruces.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Holding its first opponent to a sub-.100 attack percentage since September 25, the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team held Garden City to .021 hitting and earned a much-needed victory with a sweep of the Broncbusters on Monday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons snapped a seven-match losing streak with a 29-27, 25-22, 25-19 victory over Garden City, which evened the season series with the Busters at 1-1.

The Dragons (13-17, 4-5 KJCCC) are off on Wednesday and travel to Cloud County for a 3 p.m. match on Saturday in Concordia. Garden City fell to 10-9 overall and 4-5 in the KJCCC.

Hutchinson was led by freshman Atlyn Proctor who had 13 kills, hitting .189 on 37 attacks.

Right-side hitter Tiana Simmons had nine kills and hit .200 on 20 swings. Simmons just missed a double-double with a season-high 12 digs and two blocks.

Sophomore middle McKenzie Murphy hit .278 with seen kills on 18 attacks. Murphy had five total blocks, including one solo block.

Freshman Kierny Follmer came off the bench to add seven kills and three blocks. Sophomore Precious Johnson had five kills and two blocks.

The Blue Dragons hit .139 as a team, out-blocked Garden City 7-6 and out-dug the Busters 76-63. The Dragons had six service aces.

Sophomore setter Shelbi Wilson had 36 assists and five digs.

Freshman libero Addy Foster finished with 20 digs. Freshman Ellie Suber had a season-high 15 digs with two aces. Bea Carvalho had a season-high 13 digs with three service aces.

Julia Brazil had 10 kills to lead Garden City.

SET 1: The first set was a back-and-forth battle with 14 ties and seven lead changes and went to extra points. The Dragons had to overcome an early deficits of 6-2 and 10-5. The Dragons finally tied the set at 12-12 after a Wilson ace serve and took its first lead on a Follmer/Murphy double block for a 17-16 lead. Trailing 23-22, the Dragons got a Buster attack error and Murphy kill to take a 24-23 lead. The Dragons couldn’t convert on their first two set points and then trailed 26-25. The Dragons took a 27-26 lead on a Buster attack error and Carvalho service ace. The set was tied at 27. Proctor had a kill, her third of the set for a 28-27 lead. The Dragons closed out the set on a Garden attack error for a 29-27 victory.

🏐 Dragons earn home sweep of Busters

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson Community College, and the Hutchinson Art Center are holding their annual Empty Bowls fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 17.

The event is from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Hutchinson Art Center located at 405 N. Washington.&nbsp;

The event has been a collaboration between the two art departments, along with support from numerous community sponsors.

There is a $15 suggested donation to enter the event for adults and $5 for kids, which will provide guests with a hand-made ceramic bowl created by HHS and HCC students, as well as food provided by Traveling Bowl and the HCTEA Culinary students. All proceeds will go directly to the Reno County Food Bank.

Empty Bowls fundraiser coming up Thursday

Donald “Donnie” Orson Rawlins, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. 

He was born on May 5, 1944, in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. Donnie spent his childhood in Canada but had an adventurous soul and attended college in California and Arizona. Though he loved the Arizona desert, he decided to return home to Ontario to continue his education. Upon returning, he met the love of his life, Laura Jeanne Arthur, and they wed 6 months later, on December 10th , 1966. In 1968, they had a daughter, Tana, and in 1977 he went west once more, this time with his family, to make Arizona their permanent home.

Donnie had numerous careers which included owning a construction company, printing business, commercial HVAC business, and a vinyl sign company. He was truly a jack of all&nbsp;trades, and he mastered them all. He could fix or build anything from the ground up, whether it was a home, car, motorcycle, you name it. But what he will be known for best, is the loving and devoted caregiver he was to his wife Jeanne after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2012, until her death in 2018.

He was passionate about Harley Davidsons, cars, and music. Donnie’s favorite piano music to play was ragtime. They loved to ride and had a large group of lifelong biking friends. He loved Jesus and was a member of Faith Bible Church in Glendale, Arizona for many&nbsp;years. In 2022, he moved to Kansas to be closer to his daughter and grandson. There he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and going out to dinner, mostly Olive Garden – his favorite, and any place that served good chicken wings. He was a people person and loved by everyone he met.

He is survived by his daughter, Tana Prideaux and George of Sterling, KS, and his grandson, Michael Rawlins “Rawley” Dinges of Sterling, KS.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Jeanne, his parents, Edna &amp; Don Rawlins,&nbsp;Sr., his 2 sisters, Catherine and Gilberta, and his son-in-law, Michael Francis Dinges.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will take place in Arizona at a later date.

Donnie spent his childhood in Canada but had an adventurous soul and attended college in California and Arizona. Though he loved the Arizona desert, he decided to return home to Ontario to continue his education. Upon returning, he met the love of his life, Laura Jeanne Arthur, and they wed 6 months later, on December 10th , 1966. In 1968, they had a daughter, Tana, and in 1977 he went west once more, this time with his family, to make Arizona their permanent home.Donnie had numerous careers which included owning a construction company, printing business, commercial HVAC business, and a vinyl sign company. He was truly a jack of all&nbsp;trades, and he mastered them all. He could fix or build anything from the ground up, whether it was a home, car, motorcycle, you name it. But what he will be known for best, is the loving and devoted caregiver he was to his wife Jeanne after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2012, until her death in 2018.He was passionate about Harley Davidsons, cars, and music. His dream season hit a peak when McCarty won the Black Desert Championship by three shots over Stephan Jaeger. The victory comes with an invitation to the Masters and a spot in the PGA Championship. WINFIELD – The Hutchinson Community College men's cross country team joined the women's team in the re-write of the Blue Dragon record books on Saturday.

Both&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mxc/2024-25/bios/kiprotich_titus_3hog">Titus Kiprotich</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mxc/2024-25/bios/kogo_cornelius_c2m2">Cornelius Kogo</a>&nbsp;broke the Blue Dragon men's 8,000-meter record to lead the No. 5-ranked Hutchinson men to a third-place finish at the Region 6 Preview at the Kansas Veterans Home, the site of the 2024 Region 6 Championships in two weeks.

Both Kiprotich and Kogo finished in the Top 10 to lead the Dragons, who scored 56 points with an average time of 24:53.73.

Kiprotich broke the Blue Dragon 8K record with a fifth-place time of 23:49.64, beating his career-best time set two weeks ago by 50 seconds.

Kogo was 10 seconds behind Kiprotich, also breaking the old 8K record, placing sixth with a time of 23:59.12

Kiprotich and Kogo surpassed the tied record of 24:01.8, originally set in 1976 by David Zuk and matched in 2018 by Andrew Kibet.

👟 Kiprotich, Kogo break Blue Dragon 8K record at Region VI preview

WINFIELD – It took 40 seasons before a Hutchinson Community College women's cross country runner broke the 18-minute barrier. It only took one meet for a Blue Dragon runner to go sub-17 minutes.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2024-25/bios/jepchirchir_faith_mtt9">Faith Jepchirchir</a>&nbsp;made it 3 for 3 this season, winning her third meet, the second in school-record fashion to lead the No. 6-ranked Blue Dragon women at the Region 6 Preview at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

The Blue Dragons did not post a team score on Saturday with only three runners competing. No. 4-ranked Crowder College won the women's team title with 23 points. Eighth-ranked Butler was second with 50 points on the same course where the 2024 Region 6 Cross Country Championships will be contested in two weeks.

Jepchirchir broke her own 5K school record by 12.34 second on Saturday, winning the preview with a time of 16:55.33. Jepchirchir first broke the Blue Dragons' 5,000-meter record two weeks ago at the Chili Pepper Festival with a time of 17:08.1. On that day, Lilian Mateo Torrez also broke the 18-minute mark.

Jepchirchir also became the first Blue Dragon to win three events in the same season in program history.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2024-25/bios/grantham_abigail_42dd">Abigail Grantham</a>&nbsp;became the 41st Blue Dragon runner to break into the sub-20-minute club with a career-best time of 19:35.16. Grantham finished 13th for her career-best placing at 5,000 meters.

👟 Jepchirchir smashes Dragons' 5K record again

COFFEYVILLE – Forward&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2024-25/bios/rogers_haley_tzll">Haley Rogers</a>&nbsp;posted her third multi-goal game of the season while forward&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2024-25/bios/marx_katharina_gwqa">Katharina Marx</a>&nbsp;tied a career single-game high for assists to power the No. 16-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team to a shutout victory over the Coffeyville Red Ravens.

The Blue Dragons registered their third-straight shutout after a 3-0 victory over Coffeyville at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Now 4-0-1 in their last five games, the Blue Dragons improved to 8-2-4 overall and 7-2-4 (25 points) in the Jayhawk Conference. Hutchinson plays host to Barton at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex. Coffeyville is now 1-10-3 and 0-9-3 in the KJCCC.

Rogers had two goals on five shots taken, scoring in the sixth and 15th minute to give the Blue Dragons a 2-0 lead. Now with team highs of 11 goals and 28 points for the season, Rogers earned her third game-winning goal.

Sophomore midfielder&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2024-25/bios/edwards_kaitlyn_flm0">Kaitlyn Edwards</a>&nbsp;had the other goal for the Blue Dragons. Snapping a six-game streak without a goal, Edwards' eighth goal of the season came in the 61st minute to give Hutchinson a 3-0 lead.

Marx tied her single-game career high for assists with three against the Red Ravens. That matched the three assists she had in her collegiate debut last season against Northeastern Junior College on August 20, 2023.

This was the 59th time a Blue Dragon player had at least three assists in a game in program history and Marx became the 16th Blue Dragon player in reach 20 career assists. She also has a career season high 11 assists this season.

The Dragons posted three consecutive shutouts for the 27th time in program history and it was the 188th shutout all-time.

Freshman goalkeeper&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2024-25/bios/vaquera_marina_kx98">Marina Lopez</a>&nbsp;(5-0-1) posted her fourth shoutout of the season. That ties her with Bailey Shupe for ninth on the Blue Dragon freshman goalkeepers list. Lopez made two saves against the Ravens.

The Blue Dragons out-shot Coffeyville 17-4 and had six corner kicks to the Ravens' two

Hutchinson won its fifth-straight game over Coffeyville and is now 19-5 all-time against the Ravens with 12 shutouts in series history.

Making their first road trip since September 7, the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College football team faces its first KJCCC road test of the season on Saturday.
The Blue Dragons (5-0, 1-0) travel to play the Independence Pirates (1-4, 0-3) at 1 p.m. at Shulthis Stadium in Independence.
In their one road game this season, the Blue Dragons outlasted Iowa Western 38-37 in a No. 2 vs. No. 1 showdown on September 7 in Council Bluffs. That victory was their 15th consecutive win in a true road game, breaking the old record of 14-straight road wins, which was set from 1946 to 1950.

The Blue Dragons look to extend other win streaks on Saturday ... the most obvious their five-game win streak to start the season. Hutchinson bids for hits ninth 6-0 start to a season in program history, its fourth in the last five seasons.
The Dragons are currently on an 19-game KJCCC winning streak that dates back to the second conference game of the 2021 season. Three of those victories were in the 2021 KJCCC Playoffs and a fourth was against Coffeyville in the 2022 NJCAA National Semifinals. This is the second-longest KJCCC win streak by the Blue Dragons since reeling off 26-straight league wins from 1946 to 1950.
Hutchinson has defeated Independence in three straight and 6 of the last 7 matchups against the Pirates.
The Blue Dragons opened conference play last Saturday with a 42-0 victory over Dodge City at Gowans Stadium. The Dragon defense pitched its second-straight shutout and forced four takeaways against the Conquistadors. The Dragons also held Dodge City to just two yards total offense through three quarters and 35 yards overall with four takeaways. Dodge City had a minus-12 yards rushing and only three first downs in the game.
Over the past two games, the Blue Dragon defense has allowed no points and a combined 135 total yards with 11 takeaways and 14 quarterback sacks in games against Ellsworth and Dodge City.
Independence had a rough home outing last week after falling to No. 6 Garden City 57-7 at Shulties Stadium. The Pirates trailed 9-7 with 1:45 to play in the first quarter and the Broncbusters scored 48 unanswered points. The Pirates were limited to 49 yards total offense and six first downs.
Independence has dropped three games in a row after defeating NEO 22-7 on Sept. 7. Indy dropped a 37-30 overtime decision at Trinity Valley to open the season on August. 24.
This will be the first of two-straight trips into Montgomery County for the Blue Dragons, who play at No. 14 Coffeyville next Saturday.</div>

🏈 No. 1 HutchCC travels to Independence Saturday

PARK HILLS, Mo. — Freshman Atlyn Proctor had a career-high number of kills and freshman Addy Foster had a career high  in digs, but the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team suffered a five -set loss to Vincennes University in the Cardinal Classic on Friday at Mineral Area College.

The Blue Dragons went 0-2 on Day 1 of the Cardinal Classic, falling to No. 14 Indian Hills 25-14, 25-15, 25-16. Then Vincennes rallied from a 2-1 match deficit to sting the Dragons 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 21-25, 12-15.

Hutchinson is now 12-15 overall. The Blue Dragons will play No. 13 Missouri State-West Plains at 9 a.m. and tournament host Mineral Area at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Proctor had a career-best 23 kills to lead the Blue Dragon offense. This was her third match this season of 20 or more digs.

Foster had her seventh match of 20 or more digs, getting a career-high 28 digs.

 Tiana Simmons had eight kills and three blocks for the Dragons. Freshman Kierny Follmer had a season-high eight kills.

Sophomore setter Shelbi Wilson posted her fourth double-double of the season with 41 assists and 10 digs. Four Blue Dragons had four players reach double figures in digs. Freshman Siani Sanchez had a season-high 14 digs. Wilson and freshman Ellie Suber had 10 digs each.

Sophomore McKenzie Murphy finished with three blocks, including a solo block.

Proctor had seven kills and Simmons had five kills to lead the Dragons.

Wilson finished with 21 assists. Foster had 14 digs.

The Hutchinson Community College men&apos;s golf team moved up one spot to No. 2 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NJCAA Division I Rankings were released on Friday.
The Blue Dragons moved past Odessa after a strong performance in the Grier Jones Shocker Classic last weekend at Sand Creek Station. The Dragons finished three stroke behind Midland and eight strokes ahead of Indian Hills.
Midland and Odessa got three first-place votes each and the Dragons received the other first-place vote. The Dragons moved by the Wranglers into second with 56 points to Odessa&apos;s 51.
Indian Hills remained fourth and New Mexico Junior College stayed fifth this week.
So far in the Fall 2024 season, the Blue Dragons finished second at the Sam Proal Classic in Pueblo, won the Bent Tree Intercollegiate and tied for seventh at the Shocker Classic.
Hutchinson will play in a primarily Division I Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at the Herb Wimberly Invitational hosted by New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

🏈 Week 7 KJCCC, KCAC, MIAA schedule

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College will hold a Management Forum on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Justice Theatre of the Shears Technology Center on the HutchCC campus.

The forum is free to attend and open to the public.

The featured speakers for the event are Matt Althouse and Daren Dunn, both of EAGLE Media. Althouse is the General Manager, while Dunn is the Program Director and On-Air Personality on My 93-1.

Matt Althouse started his radio career at KJCK-FM in Junction City in 2003 as on-air talent and later, music director. In 2009 Matt joined Hull Broadcasting in Great Bend where he had the opportunity to be exposed to every facet of the business.

He was also Program Director for KBGL-FM from 2012 until 2021 when he accepted the position of General Manager for Eagle Communications in Great Bend. In his first year of station management, Matt and his sales team hit all but one of their monthly quotas. And in 2024 he accepted the General Manager position for EAGLE Media in Hutchinson.

Daren Dunn is a Hutchinson native and a proud graduate of Hutchinson Community College and the University of Kansas where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Journalism. Daren earned several Kansas Association of Broadcaster awards at the collegiate level for his work in radio and television. He has since been honored by the KAB at the professional level in 2021 (Best Sports Feature) for his Public Address work and again in 2022 (Best Morning Show). Daren was the first radio personality to win the Medium Market category for Best Morning Show. His morning show took second in 2023 and was honored again as the best show in the state in 2024. In his spare time, Daren is the public address voice of the Blue Dragons and joins radio voice Sean Boston on the road as a color analyst.

The two guests will share information about how they entered their careers, as well as answer questions about business management from the audience.

HutchCC to hold Management Forum on Oct. 24

Bradley J. “Brad” Hill, 71, died October 9, 2024, at Enterprise Estates Nursing Home, Enterprise, KS. He was born July 15, 1953, in Hutchinson, to Jay H. and Erma M. (Hemphill) Hill.

Brad graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1971, Hutchinson Community Junior College in 1973, with an associate’s degree in science, and Wichita State University in 2003 with a Master of Physician Associate (MPA) degree. He worked as a police officer in Hutchinson and Garden City in the 1970’s and 1980’s, an undersheriff in Elkhart in the 1990’s. He was a physician assistant, from 2003 to 2011 in Pratt, Wichita, and Hutchinson. Brad enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to country music concerts. He was an avid sports fan of KU, K-State, Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. Brad liked Westerns and was fond of Wyatt Earp. He loved to spend time with his children and attending their sporting events.&nbsp;

Brad married Joni Razo at Westside Baptist Church, Hutchinson, in 1981, and shared over 18 years of marriage.

Brad is survived by: children, Lance (Julie) Hill of Crystal Lake, IL, Lindsay Hill, Skylar (fiancée, Brooke Davis) Hill, all of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Felicity and Adalyn Hill of Crystal Lake, IL; siblings, Craig (Mark Summers) Hill of Fort Wayne, IN, Richard (Nelly) Hill of Brock, TX, and Janice (Tim) Stangel of Concordia.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2024, in the Valley Township Cemetery, E. Longview Rd., Burrton, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.

Memorials are suggested to Enterprise Estates Nursing Home, Enterprise, KS, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Sophomore goalkeeper&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2024-25/bios/slothower_karsyn_oxul">Karsyn Slothower</a>&nbsp;tallied a season-high 11 saves and needed every one of them to help the No. 16-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team earn a key Jayhawk Conference point with the eighth-ranked Butler Grizzlies on Wednesday night at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

The Blue Dragons and Grizzlies battled to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday in a battle of two of the top KJCCC teams.

Hutchinson is now 7-2-4 overall and 6-2-4 (22 points) in the KJCCC. Butler is now 9-1-4 overall and 9-1-2 (29 points in the KJCCC). Hutchinson travels to Coffeyville for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Hutchinson's fourth tie of the season is a new team record.

Slothower was busy in both halves and Butler dominated possession. The Dragons were out-shot 28-8 overall and 11-3 in shots on goal. Slothower had five saves in the first half and six in the second half. The Grizzlies also hit a post and cross bar.

Equal to Slothower's effort was the Blue Dragon back lin, which didn't allow any mad scrambles in front of the net on what few rebounds Slothower gave up.

The Dragons were strong on all six of Butler's corner kicks. Slothower was forced to make two saves.

The biggest danger the Blue Dragons were in off a Butler set piece was a free kick just outside the box to Slothower's right late in the second half. The Grizzlies weren't able to get a shot attempt off the free kick as it sailed through the box for a Dragon throw-in.

Slothower's performance on Wednesday gives her 146 career saves, which moved her past Carly McArthur (140) into second place on the Blue Dragons career saves list. Ashley Perez (2005-06) leads that category with 175.

This was also the second time Slothower surpassed the 10-save mark in a single game. Her career high is 14 against Barton last season.
