⛳ Dragons 6th after 2 rounds in New Mexico

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico — The No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team had a strong rebound round Monday afternoon with a 4-under-par 284 and is now sixth after 36 holes of the Herb Wimberly Memorial Invitational at New Mexico State University.

The Blue Dragons shot a 5-over par 293 in Monday’s opening round, but trimmed nine strokes off that mark in the afternoon round to shoot a 36-hole total of 577.

The Dragons trail tournament leader New Mexico State by 28 strokes after the Aggies shot rounds of 273 and 276 and are 19-under par at 549.

NJCAA No. 1-ranked Midland is second at 561 (280-281). No. 3 Odessa is fourth at 573 (288-285). KJCCC rival Garden City is eighth after two rounds at 583 (291-292).

Sophomore Charlie Box was the low Blue Dragon golfer in the opening round at 1-under 71. The Dragons also counted scores from Jack Northgraves (73), Jaydon Carruthers (74) and Louis Ross (75).

Northgraves led the afternoon charge for the Dragons with a 2-under 70. Box and Ross both carded 71s and Carruthers shot even-par 72 in the afternoon round.

Individually, Box is tied for 15th at 2-under 142 (71-71). Northgraves is tied for 19th at 143 (73-70). Carruthers (74-72) and Ross (75-71) are tied for 38th at 146.

Sophomore David Razinskas is tied for 64th at 151 after Monday rounds of 75 and 76.

The final round begins at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday at University Golf Course in Las Cruces.
