Marilyn D. Dunsworth, 82, died December 16, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born May 18, 1942, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Hutchinson, to Burt and Mary Ann (Rose) Frye.&nbsp;

Marilyn graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1960. She spent many years working at Hutchinson Community College in various positions, but really loved her position in the recreation department where she worked until retiring at age 70. Marilyn took her responsibilities seriously and was a mother figure to the students who often dropped by just to visit or ask for advice. She was an amazing artist and used her talent to teach others through craft clubs and at the Delos V. Smith Senior Center. She often entered her work in the State Fair, earning many blue ribbons. Marilyn loved riding horses and barrel racing and was a member of a saddle club for many years. Marilyn participated in many Bunco clubs and was a member of First Christian Church, Hutchinson. &nbsp;

After dating for three short months, she married the love of her life, Stephen L “Steve” Dunsworth on April 13, 1968, in Hutchinson. For over 56 years, they shared their days together never spending too much time apart. She and Steve treasured going on trips with family to Colorado, Shell Knob, MO, and Lake Taneycomo. In the early years of their marriage, she enjoyed cheering on Steve and others who drove his race cars. She would often accompany Steve to dirt track races, car shows, on fishing trips, and many long boat rides. Marilyn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and pet mom. She was a friend to many and enriched the lives of those who knew her.&nbsp;

Marilyn is survived by: husband, Steve Dunsworth of Hutchinson; daughters Donisa Hughes (Joe) of West Virginia, Stephanie Covington of Lawrence; grandkids Richard Doss (Connie), Nathan Hamilton (Amanda), Jason McKown (Traci), Jennifer Cross (Lloyd), Erin Langley (Matthew), Joey McKown (Lacey), Ben Hughes (Bailey), Drew Covington, Holly Covington, and 18 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Debbie Dunsworth (daughter), Darcy Wilson (daughter).&nbsp;

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2024, at First Christian Church, 15 E. 5th St., Hutchinson, with Pastor Les Wedel officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, at Elliott Mortuary. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

For the fifth time in the last three seasons, the Hutchinson Community College football team will meet the Iowa Western Reivers - this time the teams will play for a national championship.

The No. 3-seeded Blue Dragons (10-1) and the No. 1 Reivers (11-1) will play in the 2024 Credit Union 1 NJCAA Division I Football Championship presented by Zurich Insurance. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18 at West Texas A&amp;M University's Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium in Canyon, Texas.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Daren Dunn (Analyst) calling the action.

The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU with Chris Sylvester (PBP), John Kane (Analyst) and Zach McKinstry (sidelines) on the call.

The Blue Dragons rolled into the national championship game - their third in the last five seasons - with a 63-21 semifinal victory at No. 2 Georgia Military on December 8 in Milledgeville, GA.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2024-25/bios/jordan_jr._waymond_h58l">Waymond Jordan Jr.</a>&nbsp;rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2024-25/bios/thomas_ja-cory_66d7">Ja'Cory Thomas</a>&nbsp;caught two touchdown passes and the Blue Dragon defense shut out the Bulldogs in the second half, holding Georgia Military to 69 yards in the final quarters.

Iowa Western will play in its fourth-straight national championship game and bids for a three-peat - the Reivers lost to New Mexico Military in 2021, defeated Hutchinson in 2022 and East Mississippi last year. The Reivers advanced to the finals this season after defeating Northwest Mississippi 42-21 on December 6 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Quarterback Hunter Dekkers was 17 of 30 passing for 174 yards. Running back Daniel Swinney rushed for 224 yards on 33 carries and two touchdowns to lead the Reivers in their semifinal.

The championship game will be a rematch between Hutchinson and Iowa Western of an instant classic played on September 7 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Blue Dragons held on for a 38-37 victory in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup. The Reivers scored with 3 seconds remaining in regulation play. The Reivers went for two and missed preserving the Dragons' one-point win.

The Blue Dragons and Reivers are 5-5 all-time in series history.

The 2024 championship game will feature two National Player of the Year finalists in Hutchinson's Jordan and Iowa Western's Dekkers.

The Blue Dragons seek their second national championship in program history. Hutchinson defeated Snow College 29-27 in the 2020/21 national championship game on June 5, 2021 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Hutchinson Community College forward Hailey Jackson has been named the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Player of the Week on Wednesday.

The sophomore forward from Tulsa, Oklahoma, had a tremendous final week of the first semester for the No. 1 Blue Dragons. A week that included a double-double against Cloud County and sinking three free throws in the final second to help Hutchinson avert an upset bid by Garden City.

For the week, Jackson averaged 24.0 points per game while shooting 56.0 percent overall and 5-of-9 from 3-point range and 15 of 18 from the foul line in addition to grabbing 9.0 rebounds per game.

Against Garden City, Jackson had 25 points and went a perfect 12 of 12 from the foul line, including three free throws to tie and take the lead with 1.5 seconds remaining in a 46-45 win.

Against Cloud County, Jackson had her fifth double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds in a 77-53 road victory.

Jackson is the first Blue Dragon to earn NJCAA national weekly honors since Kiki Smith did so last season. This is the fourth-straight season that a Blue Dragon player has earned national weekly honors.

The Blue Dragons are on holiday break and will return to action on Saturday, January 4 against Cowley at the Sports Arena in a 2 p.m. tipoff.

Sherryl Louise Willms, 77, of Hutchinson, died December16, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born December 17, 1946, in Hutchinson, to Hugo E. and Violet L. (Sandow) Kohrs.

Sherryl graduated from Hutchinson High School and Tabor College. She worked as a phlebotomist at the Medical Center and Hutch Clinic in Lyons and Hutchinson, as well as bookkeeper in a family-owned business. Sherryl lived in the Hutchinson and Little River area her entire life. She was a music lover and played the organ at First Baptist Church for nearly 50 years. Sherryl also was a lifelong cat lover. She dabbled in different crafts and enjoyed baking and canning. Sherryl was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church.

On August 24, 1973, she married Russell W. Willms at First Baptist Church. They shared over 51 years of marriage. He survives.

Also surviving are: her daughters, Sheila Regier (Jaris) of Buhler, Sheria Dawson (David) of Raymore, MO, Suzette Willms of Topeka; and grandchildren, Sabella Regier, Sophia Regier, Serena Regier, Samara Regier, Josiah Regier, Jonah Regier, Noah Freeman, Addison Dawson, and Alexander Dawson.

Sherryl was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Joel Regier.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2024, at First Baptist Church, 800 N. Main, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Bethany College has announced a groundbreaking 2+2 articulation agreement with Hutchinson Community College (HutchCC) that will provide students with a seamless pathway to earn an Associate of Arts in Animation from HutchCC and transfer to Bethany College to complete a Bachelor of Arts in 3D Computer Animation. 

The formal signing of the agreement took place on December 11, 2024, at Hutchinson Community College, marking the&nbsp;beginning of an exciting collaboration between the two institutions.

“This partnership exemplifies our commitment to creating accessible, high-quality educational opportunities for students while supporting their professional aspirations in a rapidly growing industry,” said Interim Bethany College President&nbsp;Steve Eckman. “Together, Bethany and HutchCC are providing a unique pathway for students to combine the foundational expertise of HutchCC with the specialized, industry-connected program at Bethany.”

The 2+2 program allows students to complete the first two years of their education at HutchCC, earning an Associate of Arts in Animation. Students can then transfer to Bethany College for the remaining two years to pursue a Bachelor of Arts majoring in 3D Computer Animation. This program provides students with a cost-effective and structured way to prepare for exciting careers in digital arts, animation, and related fields.

“Our faculty have worked on such major films such as The Book of Life and on AAA game titles for Lost Boys Interactive, as well as many other award-winning short films bringing real-world expertise into the classroom,” said Sarah Mathia, Assistant Professor of Art and Director of Art and Digital Media at Bethany College.

“Through this partnership, students will gain access to cutting-edge labs, a dynamic curriculum, and mentorship from professional artists, positioning them for success in this highly competitive field.”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that multimedia artists and animators will see a 5% growth in demand from 2023 to 2033, with median annual wages exceeding $78,000. This agreement equips students with the skills and credentials&nbsp;needed to excel in this growing field while offering a unique opportunity to study digital arts in rural Kansas.

Bethany College has a long tradition of providing students with an education combining faith, service, and academic excellence. Its digital arts program offers majors in 3D Computer Animation, Art Teaching (PreK-12), Pre-Professional Art Therapy, Studio Art, Studio Art: Graphic Design Focus, Video Game Design, and Visual Art Administration. Elanor Mae Sellers-McCoy, 88, died December 15, 2024, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born June 29, 1936, in Hutchinson, to Earl Everett and Fern Belle (Smith) Frederick.

Elanor graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1954, and attended Salt City Business College. &nbsp;She worked in the secretarial science department at Hutchinson Community College, before retiring with over 15 years of service as an administrative assistant for the dental practice of Tom Brown, DDS. &nbsp;In addition, Elanor enjoyed water sports, crafts, and was very gifted at paper mache. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

On Jun 9, 1956, she married Harold E. Sellers, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;He died April 22, 1975. &nbsp;She later married Richard McCoy, who also preceded her in death.

Elanor is survived by: &nbsp;son, Dr. Scott Sellers (Shelly) of Overland Park; daughter, Trisha Cooper (Craig) of Willowbrook; grandchildren, Tiffany Johnson (Charles), Tyler Sellers (Taylor), Colin Cooper (fiancée), Natasha Dearness), Mason Cooper, Callie Cooper, and Marlie Cooper; great-granddaughters, Bristol Johnson and Fiona Johnson; and brother-in-law, Gordon Harkness.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Appraiser Michael Plank told Hutch Post it's important for property owners to remember how tax policy is set.

"Go to the meetings of the taxing entities and voice your concerns there," Plank said.&nbsp; "I'm always telling people you cannot protest your taxes with the appraiser, and that's a very important distinction. You can protest, you can come in and talk to me, and you can protest the valuation or the classification which can have tax implications, we all realize that, I think, but you can't just come into our office and complain about taxes.&nbsp; There's not much I can do about that."

It's also important to note that Reno County has a tax burden that is not out of step with the rest of the state.

"In 2023, the county's mill levy of 35.762 mills was the ninth lowest in the state," Plank said. "I'm just talking about the county portion right now, okay, so that's lower than Leavenworth, Butler, which is El Dorado, Ellis, which is Hays, Salina, Manhattan, Lawrence, Ford County, lower than all those, but that's just the county portion.&nbsp; The total average mill levy in Reno County, once you add in all the other taxing districts, city, schools, college, fire, townships all that stuff the average mill levy of 153 mills ranked 58 out of 105 counties so right in the middle, but still lower than Kingman, Sumner, Pratt, Wyandotte and Ford counties to name a few. I just wanted to take that opportunity to dispel the misinformation going around that Reno County has the highest property taxes in the state, it simply just isn't even close."

It's also important that people understand that appraisal is by class of property, it isn't changed because of who owns what.

"We don't see names or ownership or anything like that when we have to select a specific value for each specific property," Plank said. "When we're doing that like we don't see names or ownership or anything like that we're just looking at the numbers available to us and the information that we have on record for that specific property."

 </figure>NICK GOSNELL Hutch PostHUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Appraiser Michael Plank told Hutch Post it's important for property owners to remember how tax policy is set."Go to the meetings of the taxing entities and voice your concerns there," Plank said.&nbsp; "I'm always telling people you cannot protest your taxes with the appraiser, and that's a very important distinction. You can protest, you can come in and talk to me, and you can protest the valuation or the classification which can have tax implications, we all realize that, I think, but you can't just come into our office and complain about taxes.&nbsp; There's not much I can do about that."It's also important to note that Reno County has a tax burden that is not out of step with the rest of the state."In 2023, the county's mill levy of 35.762 mills was the ninth lowest in the state," Plank said. "I'm just talking about the county portion right now, okay, so that's lower than Leavenworth, Butler, which is El Dorado, Ellis, which is Hays, Salina, Manhattan, Lawrence, Ford County, lower than all those, but that's just the county portion.&nbsp; The total average mill levy in Reno County, once you add in all the other taxing districts, city, schools, college, fire, townships all that stuff the average mill levy of 153 mills ranked 58 out of 105 counties so right in the middle, but still lower than Kingman, Sumner, Pratt, Wyandotte and Ford counties to name a few. I just wanted to take that opportunity to dispel the misinformation going around that Reno County has the highest property taxes in the state, it simply just isn't even close."It's also important that people understand that appraisal is by class of property, it isn't changed because of who owns what."We don't see names or ownership or anything like that when we have to select a specific value for each specific property," Plank said. "When we're doing that like we don't see names or ownership or anything like that we're just looking at the numbers available to us and the information that we have on record for that specific property."If you have questions for the appraiser's office, give them a call at (620) 694-2915.

Linda Karen North, 76, formerly of Hays, died December 12, 2024, surrounded by her family at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born January 10, 1948, to Dr. Ward Leon and Edna Mabel (Beard) Sims.

Linda graduated from University High School, Lincoln, NE, in 1966 and attended Barton County Community College. She held a variety of jobs throughout her life ranging from a farm wife to working in health care to operating her own state-licensed baking business. In addition, Linda worked for the Fort Hays State Athletic Department and the Senior Companions program. She was also a cook for the Tri Sigma Sorority and later the housemother and cook for the Delta Zeta Sorority at Fort Hays.

Linda enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, encouraging others, and helping lead the After Five Club in Hays. She was a dedicated mother who attended and supported her son and daughter’s activities, even into adulthood including sporting events and mission trips. Linda cherished a special relationship with her granddaughter, Anna.

On September 30, 1967, she married Daryl Albert North in McCracken. They later divorced.

Linda is survived by: her children, Tricia North of Hutchinson and Adam (Jami) North of Galva; granddaughter, Anna North of Galva; and sisters, Cyndi (Kem) Swarts of Colorado Springs and Janet Sims of Lenexa; and Tricia’s and Adam’s father, Daryl.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Arthur Cartright North; and a sister, Donna Phillips.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at McCracken Methodist Church, 301 1st St. McCracken. &nbsp;Burial will follow in McCracken City Cemetery. &nbsp;Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday through Monday at Elliott Mortuary. &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the McCracken Methodist Church.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College football team will travel to Canyon, Tex. to face Iowa Western in the 2024 Credit Union 1 NJCAA Division I Football Championship, presented by Zurich Insurance, on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium on the campus of West Texas A&amp;M University.

Voice of the Blue Dragons, Sean Boston, visited with Roger Remlinger, the executive director with the Canyon Chamber of Commerce about hosting the national title game in west Texas.

Remlinger touches on what it means to host the game, his must see and do activities for Blue Dragon fans, plus much more.

Arthur Floyd “Art” Henry, Jr., 94, died December 11, 2024, at Legend of Hutchinson. He was born May 27, 1930, in Sterling, to Arthur Floyd and Helen (Northey) Henry. &nbsp;

Known as “Chick” to his family and close friends, Art graduated from Sterling High School. &nbsp;He received his bachelor’s degree from Sterling College and master’s degree from Emporia State University. &nbsp;Art taught business classes at both Inman and Pratt High School. &nbsp;In 1969, he moved to Hutchinson, and taught at Hutchinson Community College in their business and vo-tech departments, retiring in 1992. &nbsp;Art was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954. &nbsp;He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, animals (especially dogs), tinkering around the house, and anything to do with aviation. &nbsp;When Art was a teenager, he obtained his pilot’s license, and flew occasionally throughout his life. Most of all, Art loved his family, and was a proud granddad, striving to always be in attendance at his granddaughter’s events. &nbsp;Art was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 and Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Art married Eileen Teresa Jones. &nbsp;She died June 29, 1957. &nbsp;On July 19, 1959, he married Lucille Ann Kaufman, in Newton. &nbsp;She died November 13, 2022, after they shared over 63 years of marriage. &nbsp;

Art is survived by: &nbsp;daughter, Krystal Krehbiel (Brad) of Buhler; granddaughters, Kourtney Lane (Daniel) of Hutchinson and Kacey Jost (Zach) of Buhler; great-grandsons, Kameron Henry Lane of Hutchinson and Trace Bradley Jost of Buhler; sister, Sue McAllaster of Wichita; sister-in-law, Carol Ratzlaff of Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents; daughter, Juliet Carole Henry; son, Kevin Lee Henry; brothers, Randall Henry and D. Joe Henry; and sisters, Mary Margaret Donoho, Jean Blount, Maurine Lawson, and Beth Farmer.

Graveside service will be 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Sterling Community Cemetery, 522 E. Cleveland, Sterling. &nbsp;Memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Arthur Floyd “Art” Henry, Jr. |1930-2024|

Linda Louise (Holt) McCullum, 82, of Hutchinson, went home to her Lord and Savior, on December 11, 2024. She was born August 10, 1942, in Pittsburg, KS, to Farrell and Mildred (Ozbun) Holt.

The Holts made Great Bend their home for most of Linda’s school years and she graduated from Great Bend High School in 1960. Linda married James Meek right after graduating from high school and they had 3 daughters: Julie, Jenni, and Lisa. They were married 12 years when James died in a car wreck in Tulsa, OK. After living in Oklahoma for years, Linda and her girls moved to Hutchinson. She completed Salt City Business College after a year. She raised and supported her three girls and all three graduated from Hutchinson High school. Linda worked at Good Samaritan Nursing Home for 10 years as a payroll clerk, receptionist, and medical records, and then 12 years in medical records at Wesley Towers. By 1999, all three girls had married and started families of their own and Linda had six grandchildren.

In late 1998, Linda took Y2K training in St. Louis for the medical records software she was using at Wesley Towers. She called Richard McCullum, a 1960 Great Bend High School classmate who was living in St. Louis. They had met in Great Bend in the 1950’s and were in Sunday Schools and Youth Groups together. Rich and Linda became better acquainted in junior high and high school. They were good friends in high school, but never dated. Rich and Linda got together several times that week and he took her and a friend who was taking the same training out to eat and see the St. Louis sites. They had several deep conversations catching up with what was going on in each other’s lives.

In March 1999, Rich and Linda started communicating almost daily by email as friends. They also discovered Instant Messenger and started talking that way and on the phone. By June of that&nbsp;year, Rich and Linda started talking about marriage. They felt that God was bringing them together and they needed each other. On September 4 of that year, Rich proposed to Linda on a high bluff overlooking the Mississippi River call Lover’s Leap near Hannibal, MO. By that time, he had signed a contract with Missouri Baptist College for the 1999-2000 school year which had&nbsp;already started. There were now so many things to work thru and it seemed impossible.

On January 5, 2000, they were married at Kansas Christian Home, in Newton, where Rich’s&nbsp;parents were residing. Rich moved to Hutchinson in May 2000, and they joined Countryside&nbsp;Baptist Church that Fall. In 2002, Rich and Linda went on a Kodiak Alaska Mission with 29 other Countryside members. They became very active in Countryside and went back to Kodiak for another mission trip in 2004.

Linda retired from Wesley Towers in 2003 and became an active volunteer, an avid scrapbooker&nbsp;and a busy grandma. Linda and Rich made many trips to their timeshares in Branson and Galveston and one to Orange Beach, Alabama with their daughters and grandkids.

Over the past ten years, dementia had been stealing Linda’s mind. About 5 years ago she was&nbsp;diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Rich was her 24/7 caregiver, but had help from their daughters, hospice, hired caregivers, and church friends.

Linda is survived by: her husband Richard McCullum of Hutchinson; daughters Jenni (Buck) Buckmaster and Lisa (John) Dimmitt, all of Wichita; grandchildren, Timothy Broadfoot, Tiffany Broadfoot, Kenneth Broadfoot, Nathan (Hannah) Beam, Jamie Dimmitt (Ryan Carlson), Luke Dimmitt (Michaela Chronister); great-grandchildren, Mason Smith, Cameron Cook, Malachi Beam, and Emma Dimmitt.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Julie Beam.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2024, at Countryside Baptist Church, 819 W. 30th Ave., Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Buhler East Cemetery, Buhler. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed on the church’s Facebook page.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m., with family present to receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

 </figure>Linda Louise (Holt) McCullum, 82, of Hutchinson, went home to her Lord and Savior, on December 11, 2024. She was born August 10, 1942, in Pittsburg, KS, to Farrell and Mildred (Ozbun) Holt.The Holts made Great Bend their home for most of Linda’s school years and she graduated from Great Bend High School in 1960. Linda married James Meek right after graduating from high school and they had 3 daughters: Julie, Jenni, and Lisa. They were married 12 years when James died in a car wreck in Tulsa, OK. After living in Oklahoma for years, Linda and her girls moved to Hutchinson. She completed Salt City Business College after a year. She raised and supported her three girls and all three graduated from Hutchinson High school. Linda worked at Good Samaritan Nursing Home for 10 years as a payroll clerk, receptionist, and medical records, and then 12 years in medical records at Wesley Towers. By 1999, all three girls had married and started families of their own and Linda had six grandchildren.In late 1998, Linda took Y2K training in St. Louis for the medical records software she was using at Wesley Towers. She called Richard McCullum, a 1960 Great Bend High School classmate who was living in St. Louis. They had met in Great Bend in the 1950’s and were in Sunday Schools and Youth Groups together. Rich and Linda became better acquainted in junior high and high school. They were good friends in high school, but never dated. Rich and Linda got together several times that week and he took her and a friend who was taking the same training out to eat and see the St. Louis sites. They had several deep conversations catching up with what was going on in each other’s lives.In March 1999, Rich and Linda started communicating almost daily by email as friends. They also discovered Instant Messenger and started talking that way and on the phone. By June of that&nbsp;year, Rich and Linda started talking about marriage. They felt that God was bringing them together and they needed each other. On September 4 of that year, Rich proposed to Linda on a high bluff overlooking the Mississippi River call Lover’s Leap near Hannibal, MO. By that time, he had signed a contract with Missouri Baptist College for the 1999-2000 school year which had&nbsp;already started. There were now so many things to work thru and it seemed impossible.On January 5, 2000, they were married at Kansas Christian Home, in Newton, where Rich’s&nbsp;parents were residing. Rich moved to Hutchinson in May 2000, and they joined Countryside&nbsp;Baptist Church that Fall. In 2002, Rich and Linda went on a Kodiak Alaska Mission with 29 other Countryside members. They became very active in Countryside and went back to Kodiak for another mission trip in 2004.Linda retired from Wesley Towers in 2003 and became an active volunteer, an avid scrapbooker&nbsp;and a busy grandma. Linda and Rich made many trips to their timeshares in Branson and Galveston and one to Orange Beach, Alabama with their daughters and grandkids.Over the past ten years, dementia had been stealing Linda’s mind. About 5 years ago she was&nbsp;diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Hutchinson (7-5, 3-3 KJCCC) led by as many as 13 points in the first half and held a 36-26 lead at halftime.

Garden City (6-6, 2-5) went on an 11-0 run to take a 45-44 lead with 13:21 to play in the second half for its first lead of the night.&nbsp;

The Broncbusters pulled within 79-76 with 32.5 seconds to play, but the Blue Dragons knocked down free throws when it mattered, going 26 of 28 for the game.

D.J. Dudley and Jaquez Thornton each had 21 points to lead the scoring for HutchCC. Bo Aldridge finished with 18 points in the win, 16 of which came in the second half. Isaiah Jackson was big for the Blue Dragons in the paint, scoring 14 points.

Garden City was led by Antonio Chol with 27 points, playing all 40 minutes.&nbsp;

Bobby Cannon finished with just two points for Hutchinson, but made his presence on the defensive end, recording 12 rebounds and two blocked shots, including a huge one late in the game on a 3-point attempt by the Broncbusters.

Hutchinson will travel to Concordia on Saturday to face Cloud County (9-4, 3-4) with tipoff scheduled for 4 p.m. from Arley Bryant Gymnasium.

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team looks to turn things around Wednesday night in the friendly confines of the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons (6-5, 2-3 KJCCC) play host to the Garden City Broncbusters (6-5, 2-4) at 7:30 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 7:15 p.m. with Sean Boston (play-by-play) and Dan Naccarato (analyst) calling the action. The game will be streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 7:15 p.m.

Hutchinson has had a full week to prepare for the Broncbusters after having its first of two conference bye weeks on Saturday. One week ago, the Blue Dragons dropped a tight battle with KJCCC co-leader Coffeyville, 81-77 at the Sports Arena.

The Dragons led 30-26 at halftime, holding the Red Ravens to 22.9 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes. Coffeyville shot 54.8 percent in the second half and pulled away in the final 3 minutes of the game.

That same Coffeyville team gave Garden City an 81-78 home loss on Saturday. Antonio Chol had a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead Garden City. Caleb Smith added 15 and Boston Harker had 14 for the Busters.

Under interim head coach Isaiah Tisdale, the Busters own solid wins over NOC-Tonkawa (101-91), Fort Hays Tech Northwest (97-89) and Independence (89-85). Garden has three losses of six or less points.

The Blue Dragons and Broncbusters play for the 196th time in a series that began in 1929. Hutchinson has dominated the series, owning a 144-51 all-time record against Garden City. The Dragons have won four straight games in the series.

The last seven meetings of this series have been particularly high scoring. Over the last seven games, Hutchinson and Garden City have averaged 192.3 combined points per game with the Dragons averaging 99.3 points per game and the Busters 93.0 points per game.

Garden City's last game was a 56-48 home loss to Coffeyville on Saturday. The Busters shot 31.0 percent and turned the ball over 23 times. That loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Garden City.

Wednesday's game will feature two of the Jayhawk's top three scorers in Blue Dragon sophomore forward&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_hailey_q6t6">Hailey Jackson</a>&nbsp;and Garden City sophomore guard/forward Antonicia Moultrie.

Jackson ranks third in the KJCCC in scoring at 16.6 points per game. Jackson is shooting 44.4 percent overall and 38.7 percent from 3-point range. Moultrie is now leading the KJCCC, averaging 17.8 points per game and is shooting 58.3 percent, which is also No. 1 in the conference.

Wanda Lorene Rose, 91, died December 6, 2024, after a short stay, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born February 3, 1933, in Pocahontas, AR, to Oliver and Mattie Lorene (Gaines) Kerfoot, Sr.

Wanda graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1951, and attended business college. &nbsp;She enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening, camping, fishing, puzzles, and playing Bunco with her friends for 30 years. Wanda was an avid reader and known to have read all the books in the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church Library, while also frequenting the Hutchinson Public Library. &nbsp;She had a fun yet competitive spirit when it came to playing games with her family. &nbsp;Wanda and Ray both loved to travel, and were blessed to visit every state during their marriage, except Alaska. &nbsp;In addition, she was a Girl Scout leader, and a member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and enjoyed hosting Circle in her home. Wanda owned “The Rose Shop”, a women’s boutique out of her home for a few years, but her number one priority was her husband, Ray and raising their three children, Richard, Vicki, and Cindy.&nbsp;

On January 8, 1955, she married Ray Neal Rose, in Pocahontas, AR. &nbsp;Ray and Wanda attended school together, but never dated until after high school.

Wanda is survived by: &nbsp;her husband of almost 70 years, Ray Rose of Hutchinson; son, Richard Rose (Bonnie) &nbsp;of Lampe, MO; daughter, Vicki Lindenberger of Hutchinson and Cindy Baker (Kerry) of Arlington; grandchildren; Jessica Stucky of Hutchinson, Cody Lindenberger of Lawrence, Casey Lindenberger of McPherson, Brady Baker of Arlington and Brenden Baker of Hutchinson, Angela Baldwin of Overland Park, Andy Rose of Wichita, and Melissa Mills of Overland Park; nine great-grandchildren; and many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Oliver Kerfoot, Jr.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary, with the Reverend Mike Rose officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Logan Maddox (PBP) and Parker Gore (analysis) with the call.Hutchinson plays in its third-straight national semifinal and makes its fourth overall national playoff appearance in program history, all since the 2020/21 season. The Blue Dragons won the 2020/21 national championship, defeated Coffeyville in the 2022 national semifinals and were NJCAA runner-up that season, and the Blue Dragons lost in the semifinals last season to East Mississippi.The Blue Dragons make their 28th overall NJCAA postseason appearance, which includes national playoff and bowl game appearances. The Blue Dragons are 16-9-2 all-time in the postseason.Georgia Military makes its second national playoff appearance and first in the semifinals (that round was added to the playoffs before the 2021 season). The Bulldogs played East Mississippi in the 2013 NJCAA Championship game. The top-seeded Bulldogs lost 52-32 in Biloxi, Mississippi.Georgia Military did win the 2011 national championship.The Blue Dragons won a share of its fifth-straight KJCCC championship this season, posting a 42-17 victory at Garden City in the season finale on November 16. The Dragons tied Coffeyville and Butler for the 2024 Jayhawk Conference championship with 5-1 records.Running back&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2024-25/bios/jordan_jr._waymond_h58l">Waymond Jordan Jr.</a>&nbsp;was named the KJCCC Offensive Player of the Year and head coach Drew Dallas was named the Coach of the Year. The Blue Dragons had 29 total players named to the 2024 All-KJCCC team, including 12 named to the first team.Sunday's matchup will be the first ever between Hutchinson and Georgia Military. The only other time the Dragons played a team from Georgia was the 1995 Mineral Water Bowl vs. Middle Georgia in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
