WICHITA, Kansas –&nbsp;Baseball ‘Round The Clock, once a staple of the NBC World Series in Wichita, is returning to the NBC in 2024 after an eight-year hiatus. Fans will have the opportunity to watch 11 games over the course of 33 hours, starting at noon on Saturday, July 27 and running through a 6:00pm game on Sunday, July 28.

“Baseball ‘Round the Clock has historically been one of the most exciting and unique events in the NBC World Series,” said NBC tournament director Katie Woods, “For the 90th&nbsp;tournament, it was time to bring it back. We’re ready to introduce a new generation of competitors to some of the same elements – Midnight Madness, the cuckoo clock check-ins and ‘I survived’ shirts – that diehard NBC fans remember.”

Overnight baseball has long been a tradition of the NBC. National Baseball Congress founder Hap Dumont came up with the idea of having late-night and early-morning games in the tournament to make games accessible to Wichita fans working swing and graveyard shifts, and tournament director Steve Shaad formalized the tradition in 1990 with the introduction of ‘Baseball ‘Round the Clock” as 17 games in 56 hours. BRTC ran every year after that at the NBC through 2016 before it was discontinued.

Fans ready to take on the challenge of surviving all 33 hours of Baseball ‘Round the Clock in 2024 can purchase their Baseball ‘Round the Clock (BRTC) tickets now at nbcbaseball.com for $20. BRTC tickets get participants entry in to all 11 games, as well as a punch card and wristband that will be used for check-ins at least once per game. When check-ins sound, participants have 10 minutes to report to the designated check-in spot and get their card punched to continue in the competition. Participants who have their card punched at every check-in will receive a free t-shirt, a tournament pass for the rest of the tournament, and will be entered into a raffle to win a series of grand prizes.

Director of Community Partnership Brian Turner was a part of the Baseball ‘Round the Clock staff for six years during his tenure with the Wichita Wingnuts and is looking forward to taking on the challenge once again.

Don't rule out a wildcard coming out of the pack.

SPRINGDALE, Ark.—The Wichita Wind surge lost the series finale in comeback fashion 3-2 to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Neither team scored until the eighth inning of the matinee, thanks to a pitcher’s duel.

Zebby Matthews&nbsp;struck out eight Naturals hitters through seven strong innings on the mound, while the pitching duo of Luinder Avila and Keylan Killgore stymied Wichita. The seven frames marked the longest stretch where the game was scoreless between both teams this week.

Jeferson Morales&nbsp;broke the scoreless tie on a two-run home run in the top of the eighth for his third round-tripper of the season. Northwest Arkansas loaded the bases in the home half of the frame and tied the game on a two-out, two-run single to right by Rodolfo Durán.

The Naturals matched their eighth by putting men everywhere in the bottom of the ninth before Shervyen Newton singled up the middle to secure a come-from-behind 3-2 victory. Despite the loss, the Wind Surge took the second series between the clubs in Springdale by winning four of the seven games.

John Stankiewicz pitched the ninth and received the loss, now standing at 0-2 on the season for Wichita after surrendering three hits and a walk while striking out a batter.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Julio Rodríguez hit a tiebreaking single in the 10th inning, Cal Raleigh added a two-run single and the Seattle Mariners held off the Kansas City Royals 6-5 on Sunday to avoid getting swept for the first time this season.

J.P. Crawford hit his second consecutive leadoff homer and George Kirby pitched seven splendid innings for the AL West leaders, who squandered leads while losing the first two games of the weekend series.

“It’s a tough place to win a ballgame,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “The Royals are pesky as hell. We needed all the extra cushion that Cal provided with the big hit there.”

Seattle blew a late lead again Sunday but recovered to halt Kansas City’s three-game winning streak.

MJ Melendez hit a two-run homer off Mariners reliever Mike Baumann (3-0) with two outs in the ninth to tie it 3-all.

“MJ was ready to hit,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “Really good approach. Looked like a fastball, pretty much middle, and he was ready to go.”

With runners at the corners and two outs in the 10th, Rodríguez singled to right field off James McArthur (2-3) to break the tie. Mitch Garver walked and Raleigh followed with a two-run single to make it 6-3.

“It was huge to squeak one out today,” Raleigh said. “We needed that one.”

Hunter Renfroe led off the bottom half with a two-run homer against Austin Voth, and Kyle Isbel singled. Taylor Saucedo entered with two outs and got Vinnie Pasquantino on a game-ending grounder for his third save.

Making his major league debut, Tyler Locklear broke a 1-all tie with a seventh-inning double and scored on pinch-hitter Josh Rojas’ single to give Seattle a 3-1 lead.

“I thought (the double) was going to hang up a little bit,” Locklear said. “Just glad that ball got down and we got a run out of it.”

Kirby permitted just two hits over the first four scoreless innings. Freddy Fermin and Renfroe hit consecutive singles in the fifth before Isbel’s squeeze bunt tied the game.

“They’re aggressive,” Kirby said. “You’ve got to really try to be precise with the slider. They were swinging at everything, so just I focused on location.”

Kirby completed seven innings, allowing a run on five hits with four strikeouts.

“He established his fastball inside,” Servais said. “We needed all seven innings from him today. He stood up and did exactly what we needed.”

Crawford led off with a homer for the second straight game, his 12th career leadoff shot and fifth since 2023 — most in the majors.

It was the first home run given up by Royals starter Cole Ragans since May 11.

“Just got to move on,” Ragans said. “Lot of game left. The guys we have can put up crooked numbers.”

Ragans retired 12 of the next 13 batters — eight by strikeout — and finished six innings. He allowed just one run on three hits and a walk, fanning nine.

Seattle placed 1B Ty France on the 10-day injured list with a fractured right heel and called up Locklear from Triple-A Tacoma. RHP Matt Bowman was selected from Tacoma and RHP Collin Snider was optioned to Tacoma. RHPs Levi Stoudt and Eduardo Salazar were designated for assignment.

DERBY, Kan. - The Hutchinson Monarchs went on the road Saturday night and defeated the Derby Twins 9-2 to push their season record to 4-2 and win their fourth straight victory.

The Monarchs bats were hot again as they pounded out 10 hits with timely hits through out the night.

Brett Smajstrla led the Monarchs going 3 for 3 on the night as Hutchinson as a team collected 5 RBI's on the night.

While the Twins offense did get nine hits on the evening, the Monarch defense held Derby to only single scoring innings with one rune in both the seventh and ninth innings.

Ian Regal went five innings and was the winning pitcher for the Monarchs while&nbsp;Lukas Ward took the loss for the Twins going three and a third innings.

Next action for the Monarchs (4-2) is at home tonight at 6pm versus the Great Bend Bat Cats (4-1) at Hobart-Detter Field in Carey Park.

Despite there not being a Triple Crown on the line, it's a historic Belmont because the race was run at Saratoga for the first time in the venue's 161-year history.

Scheffler builds a 4-shot lead at Memorial even with a triple bogey

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Scottie Scheffler had a four-shot lead going into the final round of the Memorial. He stretched his lead after hitting a bunker shot into a creek, a tee shot out-of-bounds for triple bogey and a three-putt bogey on his last hole. Muirfield Village was tough for everyone. Scheffler managed a 71 and leads by four shots over Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin. Morikawa had a clean card for a 68. Hadwin made his biggest mistakes on the same hole and squeezed out a 72. Scheffler is going for his fifth win of the year going into the U.S. Open.

Chet Walker, a seven-time All-Star forward who helped Wilt Chamberlain and the Philadelphia 76ers win the 1967 NBA title and later starred for the Chicago Bulls, has died. He was 84. The National Basketball Players Association confirmed Walker's death, according to NBA.com. The 76ers, Bulls and National Basketball Retired Players Association also extended their condolences on social media. The Bulls say Walker "made a lasting impact on the sport of basketball and the city of Chicago." Walker was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.

Kyle Larson was finally granted the waiver this week he needed from NASCAR to remain eligible to race for a second Cup championship. Now that the ordeal is over, Larson would prefer if the topic just went away. Larson last month became the fifth driver in history to attempt to run both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. But his quest to complete 1,100 miles was ruined by rain in both states. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Vinnie Pasquantino hit a tiebreaking&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mlb.com/video/luis-castillo-in-play-run-s-to-vinnie-pasquantino-aeanpa">two-run double</a>&nbsp;during Kansas City’s three-run fifth inning, and the Royals beat the Seattle Mariners 8-4 on Saturday.

Kyle Isbel had three RBIs for Kansas City, and Adam Frazier had two hits and scored two runs. The Royals earned their third consecutive win.

Kansas City trailed 3-2 before Frazier doubled and scored on Nick Loftin’s single in the fifth. With two outs and runners on the corners, Pasquantino slapped a grounder inside the first base bag.

“Guys seem to be putting together some really nice at-bats right now,” Pasquantino said. “Two-out, runners-in-scoring-position hits, that’s going to win you some games.”

J.P. Crawford and Mitch Garver homered for Seattle. Crawford finished with two hits and two RBIs.

Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo (5-7) permitted a season-high five runs in five innings. He allowed six hits, struck out four and walked one.

“Early in the game, nothing was easy,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “They were making him work through at-bats. They got a couple of huge two-out, two-run doubles that spread the gap. We weren’t able to overcome it.”

Said Castillo: “Two pitches I kind of left up there and those were the two pitches that cost us the game.”

Crawford put Seattle in front when he drilled Alec Marsh’s first pitch of the game for his fifth homer of the season. It was Crawford’s 11th career leadoff homer.

“First pitch of the game you’re not really expecting a home run, but I was able to bounce back,” Marsh said.

Marsh retired his next 13 batters — eight on strikeouts — before Garver’s seventh homer off the left-field foul pole tied it at 2 with one out in the fifth inning.

“He was locating all his stuff,” Garver said. “We put ourselves in poor counts. He was able to strike out eight real quick. Not a lot going for us in the first five.”

Three straight two-out singles, capped by Crawford’s grounder through the middle, produced another run for the Mariners.

Marsh (5-3) struck out a season-high eight in five-plus innings. He was charged with four runs and seven hits.

“His stuff was really good,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “That was the best I’ve seen his curveball and sweeper in a long time. Got a lot of swing and miss on it.”

Maikel Garcia hit a leadoff single in the first for Kansas City. He stole second and scored on Salvador Perez’s single.

“Good at-bats, right from the get-go, making Castillo work,” Quatraro said. “We put pressure on him, no easy outs, right from Maikel’s at-bat to start the game. To get him out of there after five was huge.”

Frazier made it 2-1 with a solo drive in the second for his second homer.

Isbel extended Kansas City’s lead to 7-4 with a two-run double with two out in the sixth against Kirby Snead. Isbel added a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Mariners IF Ty France was scratched from the lineup due to soreness in his right heel.

Mariners RHP George Kirby (5-5, 4.05 ERA) opposes Royals LHP Cole Ragans (4-4, 3.21).

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Casey Saucke and Henry Ford combined for four hits and three RBI, helping Virginia defeat Kansas State 10-4 to sweep the Charlottesville Super Regional on Saturday.

Virginia (46-15) advanced to the College World Series for the seventh time, all since 2009. The Cavaliers won the national championship in 2015.

Saucke had two hits, an RBI and scored twice; Ford had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored; and Luke Hanson put the icing on the victory with a three-run double in the ninth inning.

Virginia scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the fifth.

In the first, Saucke hit a two-out solo home run to open the scoring. The second run was set up by an infield single, a wild pitch and a walk prior to Harrison Didawick's singled to right center for the second run. Four batters reached base after two were out.

In the fifth inning with the score tied at 2, Eric Becker was thrown out at home trying to score on a bases-loaded grounder by Saucke but the Cavaliers reloaded the bases for Ford, who hit a two-run single.

The Cavaliers picked up a run in the eighth on an RBI-double by Becker and took a 5-4 lead to the ninth inning. Josh Wintroub came on in relief for K-State (35-26) and gave up a two-out, two-run triple to Jacob Ference. Wintroub then loaded the bases, was pulled from the game and was charged with three more runs when Hanson doubled down the left-field line off JJ Slack.

Jay Woolfolk (6-1) pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out seven and walked two batters. Chase Hungate got the save, his second, after pitching two perfect innings.

The Naturals tied the game on a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single up the middle by Kevin Padlo in the bottom halves of the second and third frames.

While Northwest Arkansas put men everywhere in the second, Wichita did the same in the top of the fifth.&nbsp;Tanner Schobel&nbsp;singled home&nbsp;Luke Keaschall&nbsp;after a fly ball dropped in right field, while&nbsp;Aaron Sabato&nbsp;smoked a sacrifice fly to center field to allow&nbsp;Jake Rucker&nbsp;to tag up and score for a 4-2 Wind Surge lead.

⚾ Wind Surge can't match Naturals scoring spurts

&nbsp;CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia - Kansas State will look to rebound and keep its season alive on Saturday after a 7-4 loss to No. 12 national seed Virginia here at Disharoon Park in Charlottesville, Virginia, where the Wildcats ran into a powerful Cavaliers team that showed why it is hosting a Super Regional for the ninth time in the last 15 years.

K-State, 35-25, saw a 3-0 lead fall as Virginia (45-15) put together two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth before Henry Godbout delivered the knockout punch in the seventh with a three-run home run that landed well beyond the left field wall, showing why the Cavaliers entered the night ranked second in Division I baseball in batting average to go along with 114 home runs.

The two teams return for Game 2 at 2 p.m. Saturday. They will play a third game at 2 p.m. Sunday if necessary.

"It was a great ballgame," K-State head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/pete-hughes/2461">Pete Hughes</a>&nbsp;said. "That's why you play nine innings. Virginia hung out there and capitalized on a couple opportunities. From a coaching perspective, you hate giving up runs for not being fundamentally sound. In a few instances we were, taking nothing away from Virginia's offense, because when you hit a three-run homer with two outs, that's usually a deciding factor in a close game, and that's what they did.

"Right-hander&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/jackson-wentworth/11477">Jackson Wentworth</a>&nbsp;(5-5, 4.11 ERA) will get the start for K-State on Saturday. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound native of Urbandale, Iowa, missed his true freshman season in 2022 with Tommy John surgery, and after building back to form in 2023 is playing the best ball of his career this season. He was named to the Fayetteville Region All-Tournament Team.

Wentworth will go against right-hander Jay Woolfolk (3-1), 6.15 ERA, who put together the best performance of his career in Sunday's regional against Mississippi State by throwing into the ninth inning and fanning a career-high seven batters in his first start since March 17.&nbsp; 

Virginia left-hander Evan Blanco earned the win on Friday to improve to 8-3. He entered as the only Cavalier in the starting rotation for the duration of the season with five of the team's eight quality starts this season. He had pitched five or more innings in eight of his last nine starts. He had allowed four runs in his last 29 innings pitched.

K-State has won a Super Regional game before. That came in 2013 in the program's first Super Regional, but the Wildcats went 1-2 at No. 3 Oregon State in the Corvallis Super Regional.

Eleven years later, the Wildcats are back. And they'll look to stick around a couple more days in Charlottesville.

"We've done it all year long, a two-out-of-three series," Hughes said. "Their mindset is going to be great. We're still two games away from going to Omaha, and we're one game from getting back into this series.

"Our guys will be resilient, they'll respond, they're a resilient group. That's what it's all about. You want to play in these important games in the month of June. It's resiliency and it's urgency to get back into this thing.

"There's really no telling how this story will end, except we know it will end. Each team entered with a three-game winning streak. K-State was 6-4 in its last 10 games and Virginia was 8-2.K-State lefty graduate&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/owen-boerema/11457">Owen Boerema</a>, who entered 6-3 and with a 5.07 ERA, took the mound for a pitching staff that had struck out a school-record 577 batters this season and boasted a 5.37 team ERA with a 2.49 strikeout-to-walk-ratio.

Boerema, a native of Litchfield, Minnesota, spent three seasons at Northeastern (Minn.), a Division III school in St. Paul, Minnesota, and prepared for this stage. It took a lot of hard work. It was while playing for the Mankato MoonDogs with fellow K-State pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/tyson-neighbors/11470">Tyson Neighbors</a>&nbsp;that K-State associate head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/austin-wates/2462">Austin Wates</a>&nbsp;first noticed Boerema. When Boerema entered the transfer portal, K-State came calling.

On Friday, he allowed four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks in 5 2/3 innings.

"I have a lot of confidence in the team," Boerema said. "It doesn't matter what two games you win, you have to win two. I'm confident we'll come back with a lot of energy, and I think it'll be a fun game."&nbsp;&nbsp;

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Hutchinson Monarchs jumped on the undefeated Derby Twins in the first two innings Friday night by putting up four runs In each inning before Derby responded with a five run third.

Then Derby opened the top of eighth with five runs to close the gap before the Monarchs left fielder Jaden Gustafson knocked in two runs to help lead the Monarchs to a 15-11 victory and their third win in a row after starting the season last week 0-2.

Hutch pounded out 16 hits while only committing one error in the contest.&nbsp;

Hutch was led by Sam Wiese's four RBI's followed by Gustafson's three RBI night.

Brayden Luikart led the Twins with a three hit night and three RBI's.
