The deal was agreed upon Tuesday morning and was contingent on Adams passing his physical. The teams announced the trade a few hours later. Rodgers and Adams were teammates in Green Bay for eight seasons before the wide receiver was traded to Las Vegas in 2022.

Mbappé's representatives dismiss Swedish reports of a rape claim

STOCKHOLM (AP) — French soccer star Kylian Mbappé's representatives have rejected as "false and irresponsible" reports in Swedish media saying he is the subject of a rape investigation in the Nordic country. Without citing sources, several Swedish media including tabloids Expressen and Aftonbladet and broadcasters SVT and TV4 reported that the Real Madrid striker was the subject of a rape claim following a visit to Stockholm last week. Swedish prosecutors issued a brief statement Tuesday confirming that a rape had been reported to police, but didn't name any suspect. Asked for comment, Mbappé's communications team accused Swedish media of spreading "slanderous" rumors. In a statement to AP, they said "these accusations are totally false and irresponsible, and their propagation is unacceptable."

ATLANTA (AP) — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league is still reviewing the latest claims of sexual assault and battery against Deshaun Watson. The Cleveland Browns quarterback resolved the civil lawsuit filed against him by the woman but that doesn't preclude him from being disciplined by the league. The league, per standard procedure, has sought to interview the plaintiff through her lawyer, Tony Buzbee. Watson was suspended for the first 11 games in 2022 for violating the league's personal conduct policy after more than two dozen women accused him of sexual assault and inappropriate conduct during massage therapy sessions.

Breanna Stewart and her wife Marta Xargay receive homophobic threats after Game 1 of WNBA Finals

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart and her wife Marta Xargay received threatening homophobic anonymous emails after Game 1 of the WNBA Finals. The emails went directly to Xargay's account which was a bit unnerving for the couple. The two-time MVP said she notified the team and they escalated it to security. Stewart said Xargay has filed a complaint with police at the advice of the team and security. Stewart had a chance to win Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, but missed one of two free throws with 0.8 seconds left in regulation and then a potential tying layup at the overtime buzzer.

Tom Brady's purchase of a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders is approved by NFL team owners

ATLANTA (AP) — Tom Brady's purchase of a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders has been approved by NFL team owners. The seven-time Super Bowl champion who played 23 seasons with the Patriots and Buccaneers takes approximately 5% control of the Raiders. Brady needed to receive 24 of 32 votes, which happened Tuesday at the league's annual fall meeting. The 47-year-old Brady can't come of out retirement and play again unless he sells his stake in the team. It took owners 17 months to approve the deal because of concerns Brady was receiving too much of a discount from Raiders majority owner Mark Davis.

Ohtani and Lindor leading the way as Dodgers-Mets NLCS shifts to NYC for Game 3 on Wednesday

NEW YORK (AP) — Everything starts with Shohei Ohtani and Francisco Lindor in this National League Championship Series. Right at the top of the lineup. Expected to run 1-2 in NL MVP voting, both leadoff batters have already made a big impact early in their playoff showdown between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets. And they know full well only one of them will reach the World Series. Ohtani says he feels connected to his Mets counterpart in that sense. Lindor says he admires Ohtani's cool cleats. GUADALAJARA, México (AP) — Guadalajara is the capital of a Mexican state that is home to tequila and Mariachi music. It is also considered the birthplace of a less flattering tradition — a homophobic soccer chant that has cost Mexico hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines over the past two decades. It came as no surprise that the chant, a one-word slur that literally means male prostitute in Spanish, was heard from the crowd on Tuesday night when Mexico hosted the United States in a friendly match. Multiple sanctions from FIFA and campaigns by Mexican soccer officials to educate fans have not been able to stamp it out.

Bills acquire wide receiver Amari Cooper from Browns, giving QB Josh Allen a much-needed playmaker

The Buffalo Bills upgraded their patchwork group of receivers by acquiring Amari Cooper in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. Buffalo gave up a third-round pick in the 2025 draft as part of the trade that also included a swap of late-round picks. The trade was made a day after the Bills expanded their lead atop the AFC East with a 23-20 win over their division rival New York Jets. The Browns' decision to trade one of their top players could be a sign of the team giving up on a season growing worse by the week after Cleveland dropped to 1-5 with a loss to Philadelphia on Sunday.

CHENEY, Kan. — Pretty Prairie Sophomore Jewelynn Reese qualified for the KSHSAA 3-1A Girls’ State Golf Tournament Tuesday afternoon.

Reese placed tenth overall out of 43 golfers and scored a 108 (+36) on an 18-hole course at the KSHSAA 3-1A Cheney Regional.

The 3-1A state tournament will be held on Oct. 21-22 at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.

⛳ Pretty Prairie golfer qualifies for state

ATLANTA (AP) — The Super Bowl will return to Atlanta in 2028 at the home of the Falcons, following a vote of approval by NFL team owners on Tuesday at the league’s annual fall meeting.

This will be the fourth time the NFL’s championship game is played in Atlanta and the second in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which was the site when the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams in 2019.

“This is a tremendous honor for the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia to be selected as host for Super Bowl LXII,” Falcons owner Arthur M. Blank said. “Thank you to my fellow owners for their trust in awarding Atlanta this opportunity, and thank you to Commissioner Goodell, Peter O’Reilly and the entire league for their continued leadership in making the NFL the greatest sports league in the world. Mercedes-Benz Stadium was built to host the world’s largest sporting events, and I know I speak for many when I say we are honored to bring it back to Atlanta in 2028 and build off the success of Super Bowl 53 in 2019. I look forward to working alongside our city and state officials as we continue to elevate Georgia as a premier, global sports destination.”

The first two Super Bowls held in Atlanta were at the now-demolished Georgia Dome in 1994 and 2000.

New Orleans will host the game following this season. It then goes to California for two years, with the San Francisco Bay Area hosting in 2026 and Los Angeles in 2027.

🏈 Super Bowl to return to Atlanta in 2028

South Carolina is starting the season where it finished off last year — ranked&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-womens-college-basketball-poll">No. 1 in the AP Top 25 women’s college basketball poll</a>.

The Gamecocks received 27 of the 30 first-place votes in the preseason rankings from a national media panel Tuesday. South Carolina returns four starters from the national championship team that went undefeated last year, capping off the historic season over&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/march-madness-score-iowa-clark-south-carolina-80c556d6a9130a301d0f59e6eb997a4d">Caitlin Clark and Iowa</a>&nbsp;in the title game.

UConn is No. 2, USC is No. 3 and Texas and UCLA round out the top five.

South Carolina has been No. 1 in the preseason poll four of the past five years. Last season, they started sixth in the preseason before moving up to No. 1 for the remainder of the year.

“We knew we’d have a target on our backs this season as the reigning champions and this preseason ranking just confirms that,” South Carolina coach Dawn Staley told the AP. “We appreciate the recognition, but I know our coaching staff and our team are more focused on what we see in the gym every day. And that’s every player working extremely hard to get better individually and as a team.” 

UConn received two first-place votes. The Huskies have been ranked in the top 10 in the preseason poll for 30 straight years now. Geno Auriemma’s team went through&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/uconn-injuries-ducharme-auriemma-d79ab9d3b7254188d29513384b3e9e96">major injury issues</a>&nbsp;last year but the Huskies look to be healthy for the most part to start this season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Third-ranked USC is led by phenomenal sophomore guard JuJu Watkins and the team added two talented transfers in Kiki Iriafen and Talia von Oelhoffen. The Trojans, who received the other first place vote, have their highest ranking in the preseason since the 1982 and 1983 squads were No. 1 in the opening poll both years.

Texas welcomes back Rori Harmon, who was sidelined for most of last season with an ACL injury. She and Madison Booker give the Longhorns a solid 1-2 punch on offense. UCLA added its own solid group of transfers to a strong team with Charlisse Leger-Walker and Timea Gardiner joining Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice.

Notre Dame, LSU, Iowa State, North Carolina State and Oklahoma rounded out the first 10 teams in the poll. It’s the second time in three seasons that the Cyclones have started this high in the preseason poll. The Sooners haven’t been ranked this high in the inaugural poll of the season since 2010 when they were also 10th.

No. 24 Alabama is making its first appearance in the rankings since the final poll of 1999. The Crimson Tide haven’t been in the preseason poll since 1998 (No. 9). The team has appeared in consecutive NCAA tournaments behind stars Sarah Ashlee Barker and Aaliyah Nye.

“We’re very thankful for the mention, but want to take care of each day,” Alabama coach Kristy Curry said. “We are excited this season about the group and the way we finished last season.”

Stanford is unranked in the preseason for the first time since 1999. Hall of Fame Cardinal coach Tara VanDerveer&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/tara-vanderveer-stanford-coach-retires-22e6e08a97efe8c34535e4492ed2fe20">retired in April</a>&nbsp;and was replaced by longtime assistant Kate Paye. It had been the second-longest active preseason streak behind only UConn.

New conference additions Texas and Oklahoma give the SEC seven teams in the Top 25. Joining them are South Carolina, LSU, No. 20 Ole Miss, No. 22 Kentucky and Alabama. The ACC and Big Ten each have six ranked teams while the Big 12 has four. UConn and Creighton give the Big East two teams.

The Trojans, who received the other first place vote, have their highest ranking in the preseason since the 1982 and 1983 squads were No. 1 in the opening poll both years.Texas welcomes back Rori Harmon, who was sidelined for most of last season with an ACL injury. She and Madison Booker give the Longhorns a solid 1-2 punch on offense. UCLA added its own solid group of transfers to a strong team with Charlisse Leger-Walker and Timea Gardiner joining Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice.Notre Dame, LSU, Iowa State, North Carolina State and Oklahoma rounded out the first 10 teams in the poll. The No. 16 rung on the Top 20 ladder is the highest the Dragons have been ranked this season and the highest the Dragons have reached in the national rankings since earning a No. 14 mark early in 2023.

The KJCCC continues to have four teams in the Top 20. Led by Kansas City (11-0-4) at No. 7 and Butler (10-1-4) at No. 8, Cowley (8-3-1) is No. 15 this week, a drop of four spots, and then the Blue Dragons.

Navarro holds the No. 1 spot for the fourth-straight week. Iowa Western, Seminole State and Arizona Western maintain spots 2, 3 and 4. Snow College makes a five-spot jump in the rankings to No. 5 this week.

The Hutchinson Community College football team is just one of two remaining defeated teams in NJCAA Division I Football.

Following a 48-7 victory at Independence on Saturday, the Blue Dragons maintained the top spot in the NJCAA national rankings for the sixth-straight week.

The next two weeks will be challenging for the Blue Dragons with back-to-back nationally ranked opponents. Hutchinson (6-0) travels to No. 12 Coffeyville (4-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday and then return to Gowans Stadium on October 26 to meet No. 13 Butler.

The Dragons are 3-0 against ranked opponents this season.

This is the 41st consecutive poll the Dragons have been ranked, which is the second-longest run in the rankings in program history. The Blue Dragon record for consecutive weeks ranked in the polls is 45, which was set from 2010 to 2013.

This is the sixth time the Blue Dragons have been ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA polls in program history. The Dragons have been ranked No. 1 in 35 of the past 61 polls and have been ranked in the nation’s Top 3 for 36 consecutive polls.

Hutchinson and Iowa Western stayed at Nos. 1 and 2 in this week’s rankings. Former No. 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast lost last week and fell to No. 7. Georgia Military is now No. 3, Snow is No. 4 and Garden City jumps into the Top 5 at No. 5.

Holmes Community College is the other unbeaten team in the nation and is No. 6.

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico — The No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team had a strong rebound round Monday afternoon with a 4-under-par 284 and is now sixth after 36 holes of the Herb Wimberly Memorial Invitational at New Mexico State University.

The Blue Dragons shot a 5-over par 293 in Monday’s opening round, but trimmed nine strokes off that mark in the afternoon round to shoot a 36-hole total of 577.

The Dragons trail tournament leader New Mexico State by 28 strokes after the Aggies shot rounds of 273 and 276 and are 19-under par at 549.

NJCAA No. 1-ranked Midland is second at 561 (280-281). No. 3 Odessa is fourth at 573 (288-285). KJCCC rival Garden City is eighth after two rounds at 583 (291-292).

Sophomore Charlie Box was the low Blue Dragon golfer in the opening round  at 1-under 71. The Dragons also counted scores from Jack Northgraves (73), Jaydon Carruthers (74) and Louis Ross (75).

Northgraves led the afternoon charge for the Dragons with a 2-under 70. Box and Ross both carded 71s and Carruthers shot even-par 72 in the afternoon round.

Individually, Box is tied for 15th at 2-under 142 (71-71). Northgraves is tied for 19th at 143 (73-70). Carruthers (74-72) and Ross (75-71) are tied for 38th at 146.

Sophomore David Razinskas is tied for 64th at 151 after Monday rounds of 75 and 76.

The final round begins at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday at University Golf Course in Las Cruces.

⛳ Dragons 6th after 2 rounds in New Mexico

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Holding its first opponent to a sub-.100 attack percentage since September 25, the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team held Garden City to .021 hitting and earned a much-needed victory with a sweep of the Broncbusters on Monday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons snapped a seven-match losing streak with a 29-27, 25-22, 25-19 victory over Garden City, which evened the season series with the Busters at 1-1.

The Dragons (13-17, 4-5 KJCCC) are off on Wednesday and travel to Cloud County for a 3 p.m. match on Saturday in Concordia. Garden City fell to 10-9 overall and 4-5 in the KJCCC.

Hutchinson was led by freshman Atlyn Proctor who had 13 kills, hitting .189 on 37 attacks.

Right-side hitter Tiana Simmons had nine kills and hit .200 on 20 swings. Simmons just missed a double-double with a season-high 12 digs and two blocks.

Sophomore middle McKenzie Murphy hit .278 with seen kills on 18 attacks. Murphy had five total blocks, including one solo block.

Freshman Kierny Follmer came off the bench to add seven kills and three blocks. Sophomore Precious Johnson had five kills and two blocks.

The Blue Dragons hit .139 as a team, out-blocked Garden City 7-6 and out-dug the Busters 76-63. The Dragons had six service aces.

Sophomore setter Shelbi Wilson had 36 assists and five digs.

Freshman libero Addy Foster finished with 20 digs. Freshman Ellie Suber had a season-high 15 digs with two aces. Bea Carvalho had a season-high 13 digs with three service aces.

Julia Brazil had 10 kills to lead Garden City.

SET 1: The first set was a back-and-forth battle with 14 ties and seven lead changes and went to extra points. The Dragons had to overcome an early deficits of 6-2 and 10-5. The Dragons finally tied the set at 12-12 after a Wilson ace serve and took its first lead on a Follmer/Murphy double block for a 17-16 lead. Trailing 23-22, the Dragons got a Buster attack error and Murphy kill to take a 24-23 lead. The Dragons couldn’t convert on their first two set points and then trailed 26-25. The Dragons took a 27-26 lead on a Buster attack error and Carvalho service ace. The set was tied at 27. Proctor had a kill, her third of the set for a 28-27 lead. The Dragons closed out the set on a Garden attack error for a 29-27 victory.

SET 2: A Simmons kill gave the Blue Dragons a 10-6 lead, but Garden City reeled off five consecutive points for an 11-10 lead. The Dragons answered with a 5-0 run of their own and took a 15-11 lead after a Carvalho ace. A Suber ace gave the Dragons a 19-15 lead. Then a solo Murphy block upped the Dragon lead to 23-18. Garden scored four unanswered points to pull with 23-22. After a Dragon timeout, they closed out the set with a Proctor kill and Buster attack error. The Dragon defense held Garden City to .000 hitting in the second set.

SET 3: The Dragons took an early 7-3 lead after double block from Simmons and Murphy and ultimately jumped out to a 13-5 lead. The Busters went on an 8-2 run to pull within 15-13, but the Dragons seized control of the set with a 5-0 run that included kills from Proctor and Simmons, a Johnson solo block and Suber ace serve for a 20-13 lead. Garden City scored five in a row to close within 20-18. Simmons’ kill snapped that run and sparked a final 5-1 run to close the match and ended on a Wilson setter dump on match point.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson high school girls golf team placed second in the 5A regional tournament at Carey Park Golf course in Hutchinson Monday. 

Hays placed first shooting at 365 and Hutchinson was second shooting a 390.

Ava Burlie was the top finisher for the Salthawks placing sixth and Lily Rodriguez finished ninth. 

The 5A state tournament will be at Salina's Municipal Golf Course next week.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Big 12 Conference announced on Monday that the game time and TV designation for the Dillons Sunflower Showdown between Kansas and Kansas State on Oct. 26 will be announced either this Saturday or Sunday.

There are only two games on the schedule for Oct. 26 in the conference that have game times and TV assignments, while five games, including the KU and K-State game are still to be determined.

🏈 Dillons Sunflower Showdown time, TV designation to be announced this weekend

Kansas was picked first in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-basketball-poll">the AP Top 25 preseason men’s basketball poll</a>&nbsp;Monday, getting the No. 1 nod on half of the 60 ballots from a national media panel to start the season ahead of Alabama and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/video/mens-college-basketball-dan-hurley-connecticut-huskies-los-angeles-lakers-national-98d96d5729ff40aeb71f472991b07a4b">two-time defending national champion UConn</a>.

Kansas scooped up 30 first-place votes from the AP panel. The Crimson Tide, led by All-American guard Mark Sears and Jarin Stevenson, earned 14 first-place votes and UConn, which is trying to become the first school since&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ap-top-25-kentucky-duke-unlv-carolina-d62e3f34683ee1177fbd58503de93c43">John Wooden’s teams at UCLA</a>&nbsp;to win three straight titles, received 11 first-place votes and is third.

Houston earned four first-place votes and is fourth ahead of Iowa State, which returns its top four scorers from a team that was a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga received one first-place vote and is the sixth.

Duke,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/cooper-flagg-usa-basketball-9ec122d7302ae3849d7868688cb21024">led by consensus No. 1 recruit Cooper Flagg</a>, is seventh ahead of Baylor, North Carolina and Arizona in the top 10.

The Jayhawks were preseason No. 1 a year ago, too, but the season hardly went as planned. They were dragged down by injuries and struggled in Big 12 play, and a team led by All-American center Hunter Dickinson ultimately was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/cincinnati-kansas-big-12-tournament-score-96270c4ca82dd48e4bd1ef647ed08f9a">routed by Cincinnati</a>&nbsp;in the conference tournament and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/march-madness-gonzaga-kansas-score-a2be8748062ebe44c91db46d782c9432">Gonzaga in the second round of the NCAA Tournament</a>.

Kansas coach&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-jayhawks-mens-basketball-kansas-nba-march-madness-mens-college-basketball-3d6a952411b766f0627842734242cf7c">Bill Self retooled</a>&nbsp;in the offseason, landing one of the nation’s top transfer classes. A.J. Storr of Wisconsin, South Dakota State guard Zeke Mayo and Rylan Griffen from Alabama are part of a versatile bunch joining Dickinson and fellow seniors Dajuan Harris Jr. and KJ Adams Jr. — both part of their 2022 national title squad — to form a deeper and more talented team.

“We welcome being No. 1, especially with our returning players like Hunter, Dajuan and KJ, and then you add the players we brought in,” Self said. “The goal is to be No. 1 at the end of the season, and though we welcome this, it is not the end goal.”

<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ucla-arizona-basketball-series-358d5e05147001546b771bdcc97e9aac">The new-look Big 12</a>, which lost Oklahoma and Texas but welcomed Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado, has three of the top five and five of the top 10 in the preseason AP poll. The SEC leads the way with nine in the Top 25.

“To have three Big 12 teams in the top five and five in the top 10 just shows how competitive this league will be,” Self said. “Every year we talk about the Big 12 being the toughest conference in the nation and with the four additions it became even stronger.”

No. 11 Auburn, Tennessee and Texas A&amp;M start off the second 10, followed by Purdue and Creighton. John Calipari has Arkansas at No. 16 with Indiana, Marquette, Texas and Cincinnati — making its first poll appearance since 2019 — in the top 20.

The Boilermakers are trying to win a third straight Big Ten title after the departure of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nba-draft-zach-edey-6a7f3184d13c40b76bf9b41b45d1aa31">AP player of the year Zach Edey</a>.

“We have three starters back from a Final Four team. We have five freshmen. We have a lot of guys with experience outside of those three starters,” Purdue coach Matt Painter said. “We’re excited about it. We’re excited about this group.”

Florida, UCLA, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Rutgers round out the preseason Top 25.

“I’m excited about the expectations,” said Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell, whose team is ranked in the preseason poll for the first time since 1978. “We always had high expectations, and now in a league with 18 teams, you know, people are saying, ‘How good are you? There’s 18 teams. They’re great coaches.’ I don’t know where we sit. If you came to our practice yesterday, you would say, ‘Oh, boy.’ And if you came a couple of days earlier, you might think, ‘Hey, they’re going to be pretty good.’”

Illinois is tops among others receiving votes after reaching the Elite Eight. Rick Pitino has St. John’s on the doorstep along with Xavier, Texas Tech and Wake Forest. The first regular-season poll is due out Nov. 11.

Four schools that have never appeared in the Top 25 received preseason votes, led by McNeese State, which went back to the NCAA Tournament last season. Little Rock, Grand Canyon and High Point also received votes.

It was a fourth consecutive lopsided loss at home for the Cowboys. David Montgomery had two rushing TDs for the Lions. Detroit lost pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson to an injury to his left tibia that will require surgery. Dak Prescott threw two interceptions in the worst home loss since 1988 for the Cowboys. Dallas is 0-3 at home and 3-0 on the road.

Hutchinson's leg appeared to snap above the ankle when it collided with the left leg of teammate Alim McNeill as Hutchinson was pulling Prescott down in the third quarter. There was a delay of about 10 minutes as medical personnel tended to Hutchinson while players from both teams made a large circle around him.
