SEDALIA, Missouri – Sophomore Bobby Cannon posted his second-straight double-double as the Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team cruised by the NEO Golden Norse on Saturday at the State Fair Classic.
The Blue Dragons won their 11th-straight game over the Norse, defeating them 94-64 at the Davis Multipurpose Center in Sedalia, Missouri.
Hutchinson (2-0) will be at home to play Metropolitan Community College in the home opener at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sports Arena.
Coming off an impressive game on Friday against State Fair, Cannon posted his second-straight double-double with 29 points and tied a career-high 14 rebounds – he had 14 boards on Friday against State Fair – to lead the Blue Dragons. Cannon hit a career-best five 3-pointers on seven attempts and he was 10 of 20 shooting overall. Cannon added a career-high five assists.
Sophomore Kyrell Shaw had 19 points and nine rebounds against NEO. He was 8 of 18 shooting with three 3-pointers.
Chudier Dorar scored in double figures for the second-straight game with 10 points and six blocked shots. Jonathan Ogunfuye was the fourth Blue Dragon in double figures with 10 points.
Daleron Thomas scored nine points. Lolo Rudolph had six points and a career-high seven rebounds. Kordell Williams had six points and five assists.
Hutchinson shot 46.8 percent for the game (36 of 77) overall, going 10 of 24 from 3-point range and 12 of 16 from the free-throw line. The Blue Dragons outrebounded NEO 50-34 and had 26 assists to 10 turnovers. The Dragons also blocked eight shots.
Justin Carter had 18 points to lead NEO. The Norse shot 37.2 percent overall (25 of 67), going 5 of 22 from 3-point range and 9 of 15 from the foul line.
The Blue Dragons shot 37.8 percent in opening a 43-28 lead at halftime. The Dragons upped that shot percentage to 55.0 percent (22 of 40) with five 3-pointers in a 61-36 advantage in the final 20 minutes.
GAME NOTES – Bobby Cannon now has five career double-doubles. … The 26 assists were a program high for Hutchinson in the Kyle Fisher era. … The Blue Dragons are now 20-8 all-time against NEO. … This was all-time win No. 1,944. … Kyrell Shaw’s nine rebounds were a career high.
