A week after getting treatment for an injury near his throwing shoulder, the Denver quarterback said he tweaked his hamstring during the fourth quarter of Monday night’s&nbsp;19-16 overtime loss&nbsp;to the Los Angeles Chargers.

“I kind of scrambled and moved around on one, had to throw it away. It got me pretty good in the fourth quarter. Just tried to play through it and all that,” Wilson said. “I felt good moving around, running around and throwing it and everything else, especially early on, and then that happened, so that was a little unfortunate. But, you know, trying to find a way to win the game.”

Wilson was 15 of 28 for 188 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos (2-4), who dropped a game in overtime for the second straight week.

Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowl selection, received an injection for a strained muscle near his throwing shoulder after the Oct. 6 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The platelet-rich plasma injection was used to treat a strained latissimus dorsi on his right side. It is the large, flat muscle on the back that stretches to the sides and behind the arms. Wilson sustained the injury during an Oct. 2 loss at Las Vegas and then played through it on a short week.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-The Big 12 Men's Basketball Media Day gets under way early Wednesday morning from the T-Mobile Center in downtown Kansas City.

For the second time in three years, Baylor was chosen by the league’s head coaches to win the Big 12 men’s basketball regular season title. The Bears were also the preseason favorite in 2020-21 and went on to win both the Big 12 and NCAA championships. Baylor received five first-place votes and totaled 77 points to edge out Kansas for the top spot. The Jayhawks had four first-place nods and 73 points to place second. Texas was picked third with the final first-place vote and 64 points. TCU was chosen fourth followed by a tie for fifth between Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. The remainder of the poll included Oklahoma in seventh, Iowa State eighth, West Virginia ninth and Kansas State 10th. The Big 12 has won the last two national championships as Kansas brought home the 2022 trophy following Baylor’s title in 2021. 🏐 Kansas Volleyball Travels to Morgantown for West Virginia Match

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —&nbsp;Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark said on Tuesday that “my gut” tells him that a TV deal with ESPN and Fox would get done before the exclusive negotiating window in 16 months.

Yormark made the comment during an interview at Big 12 Women’s Basketball Media Day.

Recently, Yormark started having discussions with the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.heartlandcollegesports.com/2022/10/13/big-12-has-had-meaningful-conversations-on-new-tv-contract-with-fox-espn-report/">Big 12’s current rightsholders</a>, ESPN and FOX, about a new contract. He said those discussions last week were meaningful, but he expanded on what those conversations last week really meant.

“Initially, it was all about is this something we want to pursue?” he said. “Is there a desire to get to the table and see if we can do an early extension? I think on both sides, the answer to that question was, yes, Everyone’s motivated. The question is, can we get to a deal? And I have some parameters in place that I’m looking for. and we’ll see if we can get there. If we can’t, we’ll wait 16 months, and then ultimately go into that exclusive negotiating period. My gut tells me we get something done before that.”

Yormark didn’t directly address revenue share among the league’s members going forward. But he did address rumors that the league’s distributable revenue would fall back after the departures of Oklahoma and Texas for the SEC. He said he expected that revenue to go up, even with the losses of those two programs.

“Let me say very clearly, we’re not going backwards and we’re not staying flat,” Yormark said. “We’re going up the question is how far up? So we will grow revenue. When you think about our multimedia rights deal. But beyond that, we need to diversify our revenue.”

Yormark made clear that while the discussions have been meaningful, it doesn’t signal that there’s an imminent contract with either entity, or that he’s talking with anyone else.

“So (the conference) is not a free agent,” Yormark told AP last week. “I can’t go out there and talk to an Amazon or an Apple or CBS. But in a world that’s changing, why don’t we explore an early conversation which could, maybe, lead to a negotiation? And I can tell you that we’ve had meaningful conversations for the last three-plus weeks, and we’ll see where they go.”

The Big 12’s exclusive window for negotiation with ESPN and Fox starts in February of 2024, with its current deal set to expire in June of the same year.

Meanwhile, the Pac 12 Conference, which is looking for a new TV contract amid the future departures of USC and UCLA to the Big Ten, have had two exclusive negotiating windows with ESPN with no deal reached.

Yormark appeared on&nbsp;<a href="https://www.heartlandcollegesports.com/2022/10/08/brett-yormarks-college-gameday-interview-highlights-ratings-are-up-attendance-is-up/">ESPN College Gameday</a>&nbsp;when it paid a visit to Lawrence, Kan., for the Kansas-TCU game a few weeks ago and talked about the success the conference has had so far this season.

“When you just think about the season, the parity, ratings are up, attendance is up,” Yormark said. “Today, three of our four games we have ranked opponents competing. It’s just a great time for this conference and we’re excited about where we are going.”

Patrick Mahomes threw an interception in the final minute Sunday, allowing the Buffalo Bills to escape with a narrow victory. It was a shock to Mahomes, who expects to win every time he steps on the field. And the fans at Arrowhead Stadium appeared stunned because Mahomes so rarely comes up short. INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Dustin Hopkins kicked four field goals, including a 39-yarder with 2:38 remaining in overtime, and the Los Angeles Chargers rallied for a 19-16 victory over the Denver Broncos. The Chargers have won three straight to improve to 4-2. They are tied with Kansas City atop the AFC West. The game appeared to be headed toward a tie until Denver’s Montrell Washington muffed JK Scott’s punt at the Broncos 32-yard line. It was recovered by Deane Leonard at the 28.

NEW YORK (AP) — The decisive Game 5 of the AL Division Series between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees has been postponed by rain after a 2 1/2-hour delay and rescheduled for Tuesday at 4:07 p.m. Both teams took batting practice ahead of the scheduled 7:07 p.m. start. Major League Baseball announced a delay at 6:20 p.m., rain started falling at 7:30 p.m. and the postponement was announced at 9:38 p.m. It was the second postponement of the series following Game 2 at Yankee Stadium being pushed back a day until last Friday. Cleveland or New York will start the AL Championship Series at Houston on Wednesday night.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Either Bryce Harper or Manny Machado will be playing in the World Series this year. Harper’s Philadelphia Phillies will face Machado’s San Diego Padres in an all-wild card NL Championship Series starting Tuesday night at Petco Park. It’s not exactly the matchup most fans would have predicted, but neither slugger is about to apologize about their teams making thrilling October runs as the two lowest seeds. Machado thinks these are the two best teams. Says Harper, “People kind of counted us both out, right?” Both sluggers expect it to be a fun series.

UNDATED (AP) — The Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics were the final two teams standing last season. And before this season started, both encountered some major issues. The Warriors will get their championship rings Tuesday night when the 77th NBA season opens. It'll be the fourth time in eight years that the Warriors go into a season as defending champs. But they were rocked in the preseason by Draymond Green punching teammate Jordan Poole. They beat the Celtics in the NBA Finals and Boston has since lost coach Ime Udoka to a team-ordered suspension. If all that wasn't enough, there are tons of contenders in both conferences to try to take the Warriors and Celtics down.

UNDATED (AP) — There isn’t expected to be any significant news related to concussions, roughing-the-passer penalties or Washington owner Dan Snyder when NFL owners meet in New York on Tuesday. Snyder’s ownership of the Commanders became a big issue again last week when ESPN reported, citing anonymous sources, that he has hired private investigators and told people he has enough information to expose fellow owners and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The Commanders denied the contents of the report, calling it “categorically untrue” and “clearly part of a well-funded, two-year campaign to coerce the sale of the team, which will continue to be unsuccessful.”

LAS VEGAS (AP) — NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace has a mantra of “Peace, Love and Understanding” that he uses to push back against the negativity so often hurled his way. There was nothing peaceful about his skirmish with Kyle Larson at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Wallace appeared to deliberately crash the reigning NASCAR champion in a dangerous retaliatory move and then he tried to fight Larson. Now NASCAR gets to decide if Wallace was out of line. Sports Headlines for Tuesday

Sophomore setter Andrea Serrano set a balanced offensive attack with five players garnering at least seven kills and the No. 20-ranked Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 Jayhawk West victory over Pratt on Monday night at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons hit .337 and limited the Beavers to .046 hitting in a 25-12, 25-13, 25-16 victory to complete a season sweep of the Beavers and extend their winning streak over Pratt to 26 matches.

Hutchinson improves to 24-9 overall and 11-2 in the Jayhawk West to remain one full game behind Seward County for first place in the league. The Blue Dragons travel to Garden City on Saturday for a 6 p.m. match at Conestoga Arena.

Serrano finished with 36 assists and had her 10th double-double of the season with 10 digs on Monday night. Serrano also had two service aces.

Freshman Taniya Golden had a match-high eight kills on .273 hitting to pace the balanced offensive attack.

Freshman middle Anna Dean hit .750 for the match with seven kills on eight attacks with two blocks.

Sophomore middle Blondie Penaflor had seven kills on .385 hitting with two aces and two blocks.

Sophomore Baylee Miller and freshman Alejandra Briseno both had seven kills. Briseno hit .294 and Miller hit .267.

The Blue Dragons out-blocked Pratt 6-2 and had a 33-22 digs advantage. The Dragons also racked up eight service aces with Serrano, Briseno and Penaflor getting two aces each.

Sophomore libero Morgan Harvey had nine digs and Golden had six digs.

Madison Tolle had six kills on .556 hitting to lead Pratt.

SET 1: Two early Briseno kills were part of an individual 8-3 run to open the match for the season. The Dragons, which hit .500 in the set, pushed the lead to 21-10 after a Briseno kill. Back-to-back Dean kills and a Golden kill helped the Dragons to a 24-11 lead. A Pratt attack error on set point No. 2 gave the Dragons a 25-12 victory.

SET 2: Pratt held an early 4-2 lead, but the Dragons reeled off a 5-0 run after a Briseno kill and Beaver attack error. Only up 8-6, the Dragons went on a 9-2 run to lead 17-8 after a Golden kill and another Pratt hitting error. Kills by Ashlyn Long and Golden brought the Dragons to the brink with 12 set points in hand. Pratt’s sixth attack error of the set gave the Dragons a 25-13 win and a 2-0 match lead.

SET 3: This was the closest of the three sets. Trailing 4-2, Penaflor’s kill started a 5-0 run. Penaflor had two kills and an ace while Miller added the other two kills. The Dragons took a 17-10 lead after a Golden ace. The Beavers got back within 17-13. Sophie Connor’s kill ended that 3-0 Pratt run. A Long kill gave the Dragons a 22-15 lead. Pratt gave the Dragons their final three points on errors to help Hutchinson close the match out in 1 hour, 9 minutes.

The Hutchinson Community College Men’s Basketball team start the season ranked No. 13 in the 2022-23 NJCAA Division I Preseason rankings.

The Blue Dragons were one of four Jayhawk Conference teams to be ranked to begin the season. Coffeyville was tabbed 14th, Seward County is 16th and Butler came in at 23rd. Dodge City, Cowley and Garden City are all receiving votes.

Last season, the Blue Dragons began the 2021-2022 receiving votes, which broke a 10-year run of being ranked in the preseason poll.

As head coach Tommy DeSalme begins his second year at Hutchinson, the Blue Dragons were also the favorite to win the Jayhawk Conference.&nbsp;

The 2022-23 Blue Dragons return four players from a 26-9 team that was a Jayhawk Conference and Region VI runner-up and made it to the second round of the NJCAA Tournament.

Last year’s national champion, Northwest Florida State, was tapped No. 1 in the poll following a 2022 national title game victory win over Salt Lake, who is ranked fifth. Northwest Florida State received 12 first-place votes. Second-ranked Florida Southwestern State earned one first-place vote. Indian Hills is ranked third.

The Blue Dragons open their 2022-2023 campaign at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 against Fort Scott at the Sports Arena.

🏀 HutchCC: Dragons start season ranked No. 13 in NJCAA preseason rankings

For the first time in four seasons, the Hutchinson Community College Women’s Basketball team starts a season ranked in the Top 10 in the preseason NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Rankings, which were released on Monday.

The defending Jayhawk Conference and Region VI champion Blue Dragons open the season at No. 9. The Blue Dragons, which were picked as the favorite to win the 2022-23 Jayhawk West title on Friday, are the highest-ranked of two KJCCC teams.

The Blue Dragons started a season ranked in the preseason national rankings for the 14th-straight season.

Head coach John Ontjes begins his 17th season with the Blue Dragons. Only once since 2010 have the Blue Dragons not been picked either first or second in the KJCCC preseason rankings. That was a third-place pick in 2013. The Blue Dragons have never been picked lower than fourth in a preseason poll under Ontjes.

The Blue Dragons return two starters and six overall letter winners from a 29-6 team last season that advanced all the way to the second round of the NJCAA Tournament.

Tyler is the preseason No. 1 pick in this year’s preseason rankings. Shelton State is No. 2, Trinity Valley No. 3, Northwest Florida State No. 4 and South Georgia Tech is No. 5.

The only other KJCCC team ranked is Barton at No. 22.

Hutchinson opens the season on Tuesday, November 1 against the Bethany College JV in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff at the Sports Arena.

The Hutchinson Community College Football team gets back to work this week following a bye week and is once again ranked No. 1 in Monday’s NJCAA Division I Football rankings, which were released on Monday.

Hutchinson received seven first-place votes with Iowa Western accumulating four and Northwest Mississippi one. Jones College is ranked fourth and defending national champion New Mexico Military is fifth.

The top four teams in the rankings are the only remaining undefeated teams in the country in Division I.
