MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State right-handed pitcher Tyson Neighbors was tabbed the Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week following the league's announcement on Monday after his dominating performance in the Wildcats victory over nationally-ranked Texas.
The Royse City, Texas product received the weekly award for the first time in his career and is the first Wildcat from the pitching staff to earn the honor since German Fajardo on May 9, 2022.
Neighbors was the difference maker on Saturday as he retired nine of the final 11 batters during his three-inning outing to earn his fifth save of the season. Neighbors struck out eight batters, including striking out the side in the seventh and ninth while he struck out the Longhorns in order the seventh.
The sophomore held the Longhorns to a single hit in the ninth before punching out the final batter in just three pitches and did not allow a single runner to reach scoring position in the 6-5 victory. He now ranks ninth in the Big 12 with 42 total strikeouts and is tied third in saves.
The Wildcats (20-14, 6-6 Big 12) will face Creighton (14-11, 2-1 Big East) tonight at 6 p.m. inside Tointon Family Stadium.
