KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Josh Allen threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead toss to Dawson Knox with 1:04 remaining, and the Buffalo Bills beat the Kansas City Chiefs 24-20 on Sunday to exact a small measure of revenge for their epic overtime loss in last year's playoffs.

Stefon Diggs had 10 catches for 148 yards and a touchdown, and Gabe Davis also had a TD catch after torching Kansas City for four of them in January, as the Bills (5-1) finally walked out of Arrowhead Stadium a winner.

Along with last year's divisional loss, the Bills had their season end against Kansas City in the previous AFC title game.

Patrick Mahomes had one last chance to rally the Chiefs (4-2) in the final minute. But after an incomplete pass, Buffalo cornerback Taron Johnson jumped Mahomes' pass to Skyy Moore, picking him off with 51 seconds left to effectively end the game.

Mahomes finished with 338 yards passing to go with two touchdowns and two interceptions, including one in the end zone early in the game. JuJu Smith-Schuster had five catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.

The down-to-the-wire nail-biter was a fitting follow-up to their playoff game, when the teams combined to score 25 points in the final two minutes of regulation, and the Chiefs won the game on the first possession of overtime.

The teams combined to score on their final six possessions that January night, and they picked up Sunday right where they left off — with a caveat. The Bills and Chiefs both marched the length of the field in the first quarter, chewing up defenses that looked downright lost, only to turn the ball over when they reached the red zone.

Then the similarities to their incredible divisional playoff game really began.

Mahomes, improvising once again, stayed alive long enough in a collapsing pocket to find Smith-Schuster for a 42-yard TD reception. And after the Bills blew another red-zone opportunity, when Allen threw incomplete on fourth-and-goal at the Kansas City 3, Buffalo answered with a frantic touchdown drive in the final minute of the half.

Backed up to its own 1-yard line, Allen threw a dart to Davis for a first down. He hit Dawson Knox, Stefon Diggs and Khalil Shakir on his next three throws, then had Davis beat rookie cornerback Joshua Williams for a 34-yard TD catch.

The drive took 73 seconds, covered 96 yards and gave the Bills a 10-7 lead.

And just like January, the Chiefs answered in seconds. Only instead of using 13 to drive within range of Harrison Butker's 49-yard field goal to force overtime, they had 16 seconds to move 27 yards and set up his 62-yarder to knot the game.

The back-and-forth continued in the second half: Buffalo took the lead after Butker's 51-yard miss when Diggs hauled in a long TD catch, then Kansas City drove 83 yards and Mecole Hardman tied the game with his short touchdown reception.

When the Bills failed on another fourth-down attempt, Butker added a 44-yarder to give Kansas City a 20-17 lead.

But unlike January, the Bills made the plays down the stretch. Allen's scrambling, hurdling run on their go-ahead drive got them in position, and his throw to Knox along the sideline gave them the lead. And when Johnson came up with his pick a few minutes later, the Bills had their long-awaited win in Kansas City.

Allen had a career-best 13 straight completions before missing on his first throw of the fourth quarter. ... The Bills' Von Miller had two sacks, giving him 16 in 19 games against Kansas City. ... Chiefs DT Chris Jones, who had a controversial roughing-the-passer penalty last week, tripped Allen for a sack in the fourth quarter. ... Chiefs TE Travis Kelce had eight grabs for 108 yards. He had four TD catches last week against Las Vegas.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Jake Cronenworth hit a tiebreaking, two-run single with two outs in the seventh inning and the San Diego Padres rallied past the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 to advance to the NL Championship Series for the first time since 1998. The Padres stunned the 111-win Dodgers with a five-run seventh to win the best-of-five NL Division Series 3-1 in front of a raucous sellout crowd of 45,139 at Petco Park. San Diego will host the Philadelphia Phillies in Games 1 and 2 of an all-wild card NLCS on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Phillies beat the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves 8-3 earlier in the day to win their NLDS in four games.

Peña's 18th-inning HR sends Astros past Mariners for sweep

SEATTLE (AP) — Jeremy Peña homered in the 18th inning, and the Houston Astros beat the Seattle Mariners 1-0 to advance to the AL Championship Series for the sixth straight year. Peña drove a slider from Penn Murfee deep to left-center for the rookie shortstop's first playoff homer, proving the only run in an afternoon full of dominant pitching and empty trips to the plate. The 18 innings matched the longest game in playoff history. Spoiling Seattle's first home playoff appearance since 2001, Houston completed a three-game sweep of the ALDS. Down two sets to 2 and down 13-12 in the decisive fifth set, the No. 19-ranked Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team rallied for a key Jayhawk West victory over the Colby Trojans on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Arena.

Led by pin hitters&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2022-23/bios/golden_taniya_58dk">Taniya Golden</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2022-23/bios/miller_baylee_hctl">Baylee Miller</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2022-23/bios/briseno_aleandra_n0jz">Alejandra Briseno</a>, the Blue Dragons avoided a second-straight home conference loss, rallying to defeat Colby 20-25, 25-23, 15-25, 25-21, 17-15.

The Blue Dragons improve to 23-9 overall and 10-2 in the Jayhawk West. The Blue Dragons have a short turnaround with a Monday home match against Pratt at 6 p.m. at the Sports Arena. The Blue Dragons also complete a regular-season sweep of Colby, which fell to 13-11 overall and 4-9 in the Jayhawk West.

The Blue Dragons are now 3-2 in five-set matches this season.

After the teams split the first two sets and Colby dominated the third set, Golden, Briseno and Miller combined for 11 kills to lead the Dragons to a four-set victory.

Then trailing 13-12 in the fifth set, the Blue Dragons took a timeout. Out of the timeout, Golden had a kill to tie the set at 13. Briseno then had kills at 13-all, 14-all and 15-all before a Miller service ace completed the comeback.

After hitting just .138 in the first four sets, the Blue Dragons had 13 kills and hit .357 in the fifth set.

Golden had 19 kills to lead the Blue Dragons on .212 hitting. Golden had her first career double-double with a career-high 16 digs. Golden added two blocks.

Miller finished with nine kills, 12 digs, two blocks and two service aces.

Briseno, who is battling back from injury, played only three sets and finished with eight kills and hit .312. All eight kills came in the fourth and fifth sets.

The Blue Dragons were out-hit .194-.179, but out-dug the Trojans 79-59. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2022-23/bios/harvey_morgan_2ssb">Morgan Harvey</a>&nbsp;had a team-high 19 digs. The Dragons had eight team blocks with freshman middle&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2022-23/bios/dean_anna_mwqh">Anna Dean</a>&nbsp;getting two solo blocks and five total blocks.

Sophomore setter&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2022-23/bios/serrano_andrea_m5cv">Andrea Serrano</a>&nbsp;had 30 assists, seven digs and two of Hutchinson's eight service aces.

Alessia Bergesio had 19 digs, IIlaia Chiericati had 16 kills and Maelie Chupin had 14 kills to lead Colby.

SET 1: The Blue Dragons shot out to a 7-2 lead after a Dean kill. Colby went on a 7-2 run to lead 10-9 after an Anna Gazzerro solo block. Dean and Golden teamed up for a block for a 15-12 Hutchinson lead. The Dragons led 19-15, but saw Colby go on a 10-1 run, including a run of nine-straight points to take the first set. The Dragons hit .069 in the set.

SET 2: The Dragons won the second set despite Colby hitting .333 in the set. The Dragons led 9-7 after a Colby service error. A Dragon attack error capped a 4-0 Trojan run and trailed 11-9. Colby stretched its lead to 19-15 after a Bergesio kill. A Connor kill started a 5-1 Dragon run and the Dragons tied the set at 20-20 on a Miller service ace. Trailing 23-22, Penaflor and Golden had a double block to tie the set, Golden's kill gave the Dragons a set point and a Serrano ace finished off the set and tied the match at 1-1.

SET 3: Little went right for Hutchinson in the third set as Colby jumped out to leads of 7-3, 11-5 and 14-6. The Dragons closed within 16-11 after a Connor kill, but the Trojans scored four unanswered points to assume complete control again. Colby hit .276 in the set while the Blue Dragons hot .036.

SET 4: Briseno started to come to life in the fourth set for the Dragons. Her kill snapped a 4-0 Colby run and cut the Dragon deficit to 11-8. Still down 13-10, the Dragons reeled off five in a row to take a 15-13 lead. Leading 18-16, the Dragons went on a 5-1 run, taking a 23-17 lead. Colby then scored four-straight to pull within 23-21, but Briseno's fourth kill of the set snapped that run and the Dragons won the set on Colby's 10 attack error of the set.

SET 5: The Dragons jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but Colby rallied to knot the set at 6-6. The next six rallies went back-and-fourth for a 9-9 score. Golden had kills on Hutchinson's next three points to lead 12-11, but a service error after a Colby timeout and a Bergesio kill gave Colby a 13-12 lead. The Blue Dragons finally claimed a tremendous scramble point with a Golden kill to knot the score at 13. A Briseno kill gave the Dragons a match point. Colby fought off two match points. Briseno had a kill off the block for a 16-15 lead and Miller closed out the match for a 17-15 victory.

LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;– In a packed Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena on Saturday, the Kansas Jayhawks topped the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a five-set thriller 3-2 (20-25, 25-13, 25-17, 23-25, 15-8) to win their second-straight home match. &nbsp;

KU moved to 14-5 (4-3 Big 12) on the season, with Texas Tech dropping to 8-9 (3-3 Big 12).

Redshirt freshman Ayah Elnady set the school record for service aces in a five-set match, tallying seven aces in the win.

“Ayah gets points from the service line,” stated head coach Ray Bechard. “She got 18 kills in three rotations across the net and she makes plays in the biggest moments. We are so excited about Ayah’s competitive nature and she’s worked so hard to come back. She is playing at a really high level.”

Elnady led the Kansas offense with 18&nbsp; kills, hitting .375, tying her career-high.&nbsp;

Super-senior Rachel Langs collected six total blocks in the victory.&nbsp;

Bechard and the Jayhawks have now won 29 of the last 31 matches against the Red Raiders

A double block by graduate transfer Lauren Dooley and super-senior Anezka Szabo kicked off the match, allowing Kansas to take a 1-0 lead. The Jayhawks and the Red Raiders went back and forth, until an ace by Elnady gave Kansas a 5-4 lead. Sophomore Caroline Bien collected her third kill of the match to put the Jayhawks within one, 10-9.

The Red Raiders kept the game close but a kill by Rachel Langs gave the Jayhawks a chance to tie up the set at 14. Sophomore Camryn Turner had a surprise attack off a dig by junior Kennedy Farris to keep Kansas close, 16-15.

Texas Tech was able to maintain the lead the remainder of the set. The Red Raiders were at match point before a double block by Szabo and Langs halted Texas Tech’s 2-0 run. The Red Raiders closed out set one 25-20.&nbsp;

Kansas opened with an early 3-0 lead after three Texas Tech attack errors.&nbsp; The Jayhawks went on a 4-0 run, which included a kill by Szabo and an ace by freshman Brynn Kirsch, 7-1. Elnady collected her second ace of the match putting the Jayhawks ahead 10-3.

Texas Tech was able to go on a three-point run, but it wasn’t enough to catch up to the Jayhawks, 10-6. Turner collected back-to-back aces forcing a Texas Tech timeout, 14-7. The Jayhawks would continue the momentum and go on a 6-0 run late in the set.

Back-to-back-to-back kills by Elnady, Langs, and Szabo pushed Kansas to a 20-9 advantage. A kill by sophomore London Davis secured a set two win for the Jayhawks, 25-13.

Elnady began set three with a kill of her own, allowing Kansas to lead 1-0. Soon Texas Tech took the lead 3-2, but the Jayhawks would go on a 5-0 scoring run to extend the set 7-3.

Two service aces and a kill by Elnady highlighted the run. A service error by Kansas allowed the Red Raiders to get the ball back, but another scoring run by KU, 3-0, stopped Texas Tech from regaining control. Turner tallied two block assists in the run to halt the Red Raider offense. Szabo earned back-to-back kills to push Kansas to 14-7, followed by a solo block by Dooley.

The Red Raiders found their rhythm and were able to come back within three points, 17-14, forcing a Jayhawk timeout. An aggressive swing by Elnady brought the Horejsi fans to their feet and sophomore Molly Schultz followed up with an ace to make it 22-15.

Dooley recorded her first kill of the evening to advance Kansas to 23-16. An attack error by TTU closed out set three with KU victorious 25-17.

Bien had a kill and assisted Langs in a block to start the fourth set 2-0. Soon after, the Red Raiders took the lead 3-2, but a service error by TTU tied up the set at three.

Each time Texas Tech attempted to advance its lead, Kansas was able to tie the score. It wasn’t until back-to-back failed attacks by the TTU offense and a block by Szabo and Dooley, KU was able to advance the score to 8-5. The score was tied at nine before Elnady pushed the ball past Texas Tech’s defense.

The aces for Elnady continued as the Cairo, Egypt native had another round of back-to-back aces. Coming out of the media timeout, TTU claimed a tie at 15 before Bien had an attack attempt that was blocked by the Red Raiders, but Dooley responded with her own kill.

Multiple ties and lead changes continued on in set four, but Texas Tech claimed the lead 20-18. After a reversed call and yet another ace by Elnady, Kansas gained the lead 22-21. The Red Raiders found their momentum and were able to finish the set 25-23.&nbsp;

A service error by Texas Tech followed by a kill from Elnady and an attack error by the Red Raiders, Kansas was able to advance to 3-0 in set five.

Elnady’s power remained as she earned another kill and blocked the Red Raiders offense with Langs to continue the momentum for KU at 5-1.

The Jayhawks were the first team to reach eight points, 8-5, and both teams switched sides. Three kills in a row by Bien took Kansas to 10-6. Two kills by Szabo and another kill by Elnady gave the Jayhawks a 13-7 lead.

Elnady shut down the match with a kill, 15-8.&nbsp;

“Any time you can win two in a week is great,” said Bechard. “We have a chance to compete against a good West Virginia team to finish out the first half of conference play.”

Kansas will hit the road once again to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown, West Virginia on Wednesday (October 19) at 4 p.m. CT. The match between KU and WVU will be televised on ESPNU.

🏐 KU: Elnady’s Aces Top Texas Tech in Five-Set Match

NORMAN, Okla. –&nbsp;No. 19 Kansas dropped a high-scoring, 52-42, contest at Oklahoma on Saturday at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman.

The Jayhawks fall to 5-2 on the year and 2-2 in Big 12 play, while OU improves to 4-3 and picks up its first conference win to move to 1-3.

The scoring started right away with Oklahoma marching 79 yards on 10 plays on its first drive, finishing it with a 1-yard touchdown rush from Jovantae Barnes.

Kansas answered right back on its first drive, also reaching the end zone after a long drive. Quarterback Jason Bean found receiver Lawrence Arnold for a 39-yard strike to even the game up at seven.

The two teams traded touchdown drives again on their second possessions of the game. First, Oklahoma went 75 yards on nine plays and scored on a 2-yard rush from Eric Gray to go up 14-7 with 7:13 to play in the first half.

The Jayhawks again answered, this time thanks to running back Devin Neal. Neal scored from 11 yards out with 2:39 in the first quarter to tie the game at 14. Neal’s touchdown capped a 65-yard drive for the Jayhawks.

The Sooners then scored three-straight touchdowns over an 11-plus minute span in the second quarter to take a 35-14 lead with 2:40 to play in the first half.

Kansas cut it to a 14-point deficit with 1:36 to play in the half when Bean found tight end Mason Fairchild for an 18-yard touchdown to make it 35-21.

The Sooners marched down to the one-yard line right before half, but a Kenny Logan tackle at the goal line kept Oklahoma out of the end zone to end the half and keep the deficit at 14.

The Jayhawks had the ball to start the second with an opportunity to cut it to a seven-point game. But Oklahoma picked off Bean on the first drive of the second half, and then scored on the ensuing possession to go up 42-21.

Kansas answered back when Bean found Arnold for their second touchdown connection; this one for 28 yards with 5:56 to play in the third. Arnold finished with a career-high 106 yards on five receptions for the game.

Oklahoma again had an answer, however, when quarterback Dillon Gabriel found Brayden Willis for a 26-yard touchdown pass to make it 49-28 with less than three minutes to play in the third.

Early in the fourth, Kansas cut it to 14 again when running back Ky Thomas scored the first touchdown of his Jayhawk career when he scored on a handoff from the 1-yard line. A long scoring drive ensued as OU used 5:15 off the clock and added a field goal to make it 52-35 with 5:18 to play.

Kansas had another quick response planned, this time a seven-play, 75-yard drive that just took 1:47 off the clock. The drive culminated with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Bean to Fairchild, the duo’s second scoring connection of the day and third in the past two weeks. Trailing 52-42 with 3:31 to play, Kansas attempted an onside kick, which was recovered by the Sooners, who were then able to run out the clock.

Fairchild totaled career-highs of six receptions, 106 yards and two touchdowns in the game, joining Arnold with more than 100 receiving yards in the game. The last time Kansas had two receivers with surpass the century mark in receiving yards was against Texas Tech in 2019.

Quarterback Jason Bean found receiver Lawrence Arnold for a 39-yard strike to even the game up at seven.The two teams traded touchdown drives again on their second possessions of the game. First, Oklahoma went 75 yards on nine plays and scored on a 2-yard rush from Eric Gray to go up 14-7 with 7:13 to play in the first half.The Jayhawks again answered, this time thanks to running back Devin Neal. Neal scored from 11 yards out with 2:39 in the first quarter to tie the game at 14. Neal’s touchdown capped a 65-yard drive for the Jayhawks.The Sooners then scored three-straight touchdowns over an 11-plus minute span in the second quarter to take a 35-14 lead with 2:40 to play in the first half.Kansas cut it to a 14-point deficit with 1:36 to play in the half when Bean found tight end Mason Fairchild for an 18-yard touchdown to make it 35-21.The Sooners marched down to the one-yard line right before half, but a Kenny Logan tackle at the goal line kept Oklahoma out of the end zone to end the half and keep the deficit at 14.The Jayhawks had the ball to start the second with an opportunity to cut it to a seven-point game. But Oklahoma picked off Bean on the first drive of the second half, and then scored on the ensuing possession to go up 42-21.Kansas answered back when Bean found Arnold for their second touchdown connection; this one for 28 yards with 5:56 to play in the third. Arnold finished with a career-high 106 yards on five receptions for the game.Oklahoma again had an answer, however, when quarterback Dillon Gabriel found Brayden Willis for a 26-yard touchdown pass to make it 49-28 with less than three minutes to play in the third.Early in the fourth, Kansas cut it to 14 again when running back Ky Thomas scored the first touchdown of his Jayhawk career when he scored on a handoff from the 1-yard line. A long scoring drive ensued as OU used 5:15 off the clock and added a field goal to make it 52-35 with 5:18 to play.Kansas had another quick response planned, this time a seven-play, 75-yard drive that just took 1:47 off the clock. The drive culminated with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Bean to Fairchild, the duo’s second scoring connection of the day and third in the past two weeks. Trailing 52-42 with 3:31 to play, Kansas attempted an onside kick, which was recovered by the Sooners, who were then able to run out the clock.Fairchild totaled career-highs of six receptions, 106 yards and two touchdowns in the game, joining Arnold with more than 100 receiving yards in the game. In fact, four Blue Dragons placed third through sixth in the women's 5,000-meter race as the Blue Dragons finished second as a team, narrowly bumped off the top spot on the awards stand by one point, 37-38.

Coming off having 7 of 9 runners setting new career-bests at the Chili Pepper Festival in Arkansas two weeks ago, Larson led the Blue Dragons with a third-place individual finish with a time of 19:25.6. Larson broke the Blue Dragons' 5,000-meter record at the Chili Pepper.

Hoskinson finished shortly after in fourth, clocking in at 19:32.52.

The Blue Dragon parade kept coming as freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2022-23/bios/lambert_gracie_ynnn">Gracie Lambert</a>&nbsp;crossed the finish line fifth with a time of 20:01.43. Cocking followed closely behind Lambert and finished in sixth at 20:04.43.

The next Blue Dragon to finish was freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2022-23/bios/fulmer_adaline_lsph">Adaline Fulmer</a>, who came in 21st with a time of 21:26.17.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2022-23/bios/baetz_courtney_njzm">Courtney Baetz</a>&nbsp;came in 23rd, finishing with a time of 21:38.47.

Also finishing in the Top 30 were freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2022-23/bios/van_zelfden_ellie_fv2r">Ellie Van Zelfden</a>&nbsp;in 26th with a time of 21:49.25 and freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2022-23/bios/aden_lauren_pgea">Lauren Aden</a>, who came in 29th with a time of 22:02.50.

Cloud County's Lucy Ndungu was the race's individual winner with a time of 19:08.53. Her sophomore teammate Melody Ochana finished right behind her in second place with a time of 19:25.60.

The Blue Dragons will prepare for the Region VI Cross Country Championship, which will be Friday, Oct. 28 at Fun Valley in Hutchinson.

MAIZE, Kan.—The Maize Eagles, undefeated on the season, showed exactly why they are a strong contender to win another class 5A state championship in a few weeks as they rode the arm and legs of K-State bound Avery Johnson to rout the Salthawks 41-13 in football action at Maize Stadium on Friday night.

It didn't take long for the Eagles to flex their muscles as Daeshaun Carter ran the ball around the right side 83 yards on the first legal play from scrimmage with 11:24 remaining to go in the first quarter.&nbsp; Maize was called for holding on their first play and the ball was spotted on the 17 before the Carter 1st and 15 run.

The Salthawks answered back with a Nic Lange pass to Noah Khokhar. The 54 yard pass with 10:02 to go in the first tied it up 7-7.

Maize marched right down the field on the Eagles next possession as Johnson connected with Bryson Hayes for a 27 yard TD catch and run.&nbsp; Hayes broke three tackles with a marvelous run to make it 14-7 Maize with 6:57 to go in the first quarter.

Maize scored twice in the 2nd quarter on a 4th and goal 9 yard pass from Johnson to Jaeden Marten and a strip sack on Nic Lange as Caden Miranda got the scoop and score from 10 yards out to make the score 27-7 with 4:21 to go in the first half.

Hutch then put together their best drive of the year going on an 11 play, 80 yard drive that ate up 3 min and 55 seconds to score on a 2 yard Lange run to cut the deficit to 27-13 at the half.

Maize kept the Salthawks scoreless in the second half while the Eagles scored on a Tayveon Williams 2 yard run and the final Avery Johnson touchdown run of 7 yards to make the final score 41-13.

Johnson accounted for 3 of the 5 Eagle touchdowns while going 16 of 22 for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns.&nbsp; The K-State bound QB also ran for 42 yards on 9 carries and a score. Carter ran wild for 118 yards on 13 attempts including that 83 yard td to start the game.

🏐 KU Battles Texas Tech on Saturday

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The 38th annual Late Night in the Phog opened the Kansas men’s and women’s basketball season with a bang in front of a packed Allen Fieldhouse. The night featured a performance from DJ Diesel, various competitions, and a booming crowd.

The night began with a performance by the Kansas cheerleading squad. The team showed their skills and impressive tricks to bring the crowd to their feet. Shortly following the performance, the Kansas dance team joined them on the court for the Alma Mater and Rock Chalk Chant.

To really get the crowd involved and excited, the historical countdown video commenced. After an impact moment by Mitch Lightfoot and Chris Teahan, the hosts, Chris Miles and Katerina Kountouris, entered center stage with Big Jay and Baby Jay to continue the excitement.

Brothers Chris Teahan and Conner Teahan were brought to center court for the Teahan vs. Teahan challenge. The Teahan brothers battled to see who the better Teahan was in a three-point shootout. Connor Teahan was crowed champion of the brother battle.

It didn’t take long before the women’s basketball team was introduced to an electric Allen Fieldhouse. The crowd roared at the conclusion of the women’s basketball player introduction video and while each individual athlete was introduced to the Jayhawk fans.

Head coach Brandon Schneider addressed the crowd wearing a Lonnie Phelps Jr. jersey to show his appreciation for the football team and the excitement for the basketball season ahead.

“How about this incredible group of women on the court,” stated Schneider. “They are fighters. They are kind and they are going to do big things this season. They will be in the top 20. They will contend for a Big 12 title. Come this March, they will be prepared to make noise in the NCAA Tournament.”

The women’s team then transitioned to a scrimmage. They began their warmup before taking center court. Senior Taiyanna Jackson kicked off the scrimmage with a shot in the paint to get team white on the board. Junior Nadira Eltayeb followed up with a shot of her own. Team white took the lead 4-2 and never looked back. A turnover by Eltayeb and junior Chandler Prater allowed Team White to continue the stretch 8-4. A three-point jumper by junior Mia Vuksic was the first three-pointer made in the scrimmage. Senior Holly Kersgieter on team white forced a turnover and broke away from the pack for a layup. The 10 minutes ran out with the white team winning 19-10.

After the women’s scrimmage, men’s basketball head coach Bill Self spoke to the crowd about the high expectations he has for the Jayhawks this season. Soon the lights were dimmed, and the Jayhawk men’s team was welcomed on the floor.

“This night is to celebrate something fresh and new,” said Self. “At the same time, we’re the only school in America that gets to celebrate a national championship. Lawrence, Kansas has become the place to be. I am so excited about our five newcomers. They are all going to be really good players. It is so special that the last time we’ve celebrated like this is when some guy named Chambers made a shot from the three-point line. The KU band played while the men’s basketball team warmed up for their scrimmage to amp up Allen Fieldhouse.

The 15-minute clock began, and the Jayhawks took off. Team Blue won the tip off and scored a three-pointer from senior Michael Jankovich within the first 20 seconds. Team white tied up the scrimmage at five before a missed three-point jump shot gave team white an opportunity to score. KJ Adams Jr. was able to take the lead 7-5. With the game tied at seven, a turnover by sophomore Bobby Pettiford Jr. allowed number three, Dajuan Harris Jr. to score for team white. Soon enough team white was in the lead 11-7. Freshman Zuby Ejiofor on team blue dunked the ball to tie up the game at 11. With the clock winding down, team blue was in the lead 20-15 with six minutes left. Multiple turnovers by team white allowed team blue to maintain the lead. Freshman Ernest Udeh Jr. dunked the ball for team white to put them within three, 22-19.

At the final buzzer, Jalen Wilson shot a last minute three-pointer to take the scrimmage, 32-31.

The team teased the crowd before the $10,000 shot where two lucky crowd members can either shoot a half-court shot or pick someone from the men’s basketball staff or former KU player to take the shot for them.

The first fan was Emma Ryan, a sophomore from Prairie Village, Kansas. She chose Mario Chalmers to take the shot. On his first attempt, he unfortunately missed, however Bill Self was gracious enough to give her a second attempt. On his second shot, Chalmers drained it and won Ryan $10,000.

The second and final contestant was Yalone Woodruff, a junior from Henderson, Kentucky. He decided to take the shot himself. Woodruff had a few warmup shots before the $10,000 shot. Woodruff made the shot on his first attempt to win $10,000.

The first banner unveiling was a sight to be seen. A championship video played while Allen Fieldhouse anxiously waited for the curtain to fall, revealing the Big 12 Championship banner and Final Four banner. The fans roared as both curtains were removed.

Right after the banners were shown, the championship rings were handed out to the 2021-22 team.

It was the moment everyone had been waiting for, the unveiling of the 2022 national championship banner. Emotional videos played as all eyes were on banner. Slowly the curtain dropped, and Allen Fieldhouse erupted into cheers.

 </figure>LAWRENCE, Kan. – The 38th annual Late Night in the Phog opened the Kansas men’s and women’s basketball season with a bang in front of a packed Allen Fieldhouse. The night featured a performance from DJ Diesel, various competitions, and a booming crowd.The night began with a performance by the Kansas cheerleading squad. The team showed their skills and impressive tricks to bring the crowd to their feet. Shortly following the performance, the Kansas dance team joined them on the court for the Alma Mater and Rock Chalk Chant.To really get the crowd involved and excited, the historical countdown video commenced. After an impact moment by Mitch Lightfoot and Chris Teahan, the hosts, Chris Miles and Katerina Kountouris, entered center stage with Big Jay and Baby Jay to continue the excitement.Brothers Chris Teahan and Conner Teahan were brought to center court for the Teahan vs. Teahan challenge. The Teahan brothers battled to see who the better Teahan was in a three-point shootout. Connor Teahan was crowed champion of the brother battle.It didn’t take long before the women’s basketball team was introduced to an electric Allen Fieldhouse. The crowd roared at the conclusion of the women’s basketball player introduction video and while each individual athlete was introduced to the Jayhawk fans.Head coach Brandon Schneider addressed the crowd wearing a Lonnie Phelps Jr. jersey to show his appreciation for the football team and the excitement for the basketball season ahead.“How about this incredible group of women on the court,” stated Schneider. “They are fighters. They are kind and they are going to do big things this season. They will be in the top 20. They will contend for a Big 12 title. Come this March, they will be prepared to make noise in the NCAA Tournament.”The women’s team then transitioned to a scrimmage. They began their warmup before taking center court. Senior Taiyanna Jackson kicked off the scrimmage with a shot in the paint to get team white on the board. Junior Nadira Eltayeb followed up with a shot of her own. Team white took the lead 4-2 and never looked back. A turnover by Eltayeb and junior Chandler Prater allowed Team White to continue the stretch 8-4. A three-point jumper by junior Mia Vuksic was the first three-pointer made in the scrimmage. Senior Holly Kersgieter on team white forced a turnover and broke away from the pack for a layup. The 10 minutes ran out with the white team winning 19-10.After the women’s scrimmage, men’s basketball head coach Bill Self spoke to the crowd about the high expectations he has for the Jayhawks this season. Soon the lights were dimmed, and the Jayhawk men’s team was welcomed on the floor.“This night is to celebrate something fresh and new,” said Self. “At the same time, we’re the only school in America that gets to celebrate a national championship. Lawrence, Kansas has become the place to be. I am so excited about our five newcomers. They are all going to be really good players.
